As news races around the blog world and the tip of the iceberg breaks into the mainstream media, people are waking up to the scam. Australia is in the extraordinary position of passing legislation that is known to be based on fraudulent science. True, it’s only been days since the news broke, but our politicians have Blackberries. It only takes seconds for the information to reach the palm of their hands, but it may take years for the meaning to filter through flawed neural software.
The implications are extraordinary. The unfolding ClimateGate scandal shows criminal behaviour from “leading scientists”. It damns the integrity of the IPCC process — which based its reputation on these men and their work. Legal attacks are starting. This is just the beginning. Even the big-name believers in the theory (such as Monbiot) are asking questions they have never asked before. Blogs are coming alive with anger, with disgust, mockery and now the real war begins. Smart well educated (but busy) people like surgeons, lawyers, professors and CEOs are getting motivated. As this top layer of brains and energy coalesces into action, the scandalous neglect of many politicians will be exposed for public consumption.
How will the public feel knowing that each household will pay at least $1,100 per year more in Australia for a scheme that profits bankers and third world mafiosi, but achieves nothing for the environment or their children’s future?
Voters will learn to detest the fake scheme and will deplore those who were so gullible that they could not see the scam.
The realization that the CO2 theory is fraudulent is spreading across the political spectrum, from right to left. Hard nosed realists first, ideologues last. In Australia, the Nationals are aware, and now the Liberals are waking up to it. The ALP will be next. Some Greens may never see it.
It’s clear that people on the conservative side of politics woke up first as the science changed and the evidence shifted. The turning point for the Republicans in the US was 2007. The turning point for Independents, 2008. Maybe 2010 for the Democrats?
The Australian Labor Party feel strong and superior right now looking at the Liberal disarray, but the rising tide of awareness will sweep through them soon too. The majority of the public will realize that the Labor Government has wrecked the economy over a fraud driven by status-seeking zealots and profit-seeking corporations, and Labor will be very unpopular. Then in the Labor Party the pragmatists will battle the politically correct (who will never concede). Climate change could tear the Labor Party apart sometime in the next few years.
History will condemn the ETS legislation.

UPDATE: The Australian reports that the Nationals offices, have received more then 10,000 messages of support in the past two days, including many requests for membership forms and multiple requests that the party stand candidates. It would appear that the electorate is shifting already.

Apparently it is not fraudulent science that is behind the AGW scam but “post normal science” and “transdisciplinarity”. I’m still trying to clear my head after reading this flummery, but it can be found on pages 18-19 of the leaked CRC East Anglia document “hot-proposal.doc”.
As an aside, I am slowly making my way through the the leaked documents and have found a few gems. There are a couple of pure (peurile?) propaganda guides: RulesOfTheGame.pdf and communicating_cc.pdf.
More interesting, the memo “uea-tyndall-shell-memo.doc” appears to discuss a possible strategic partnership with Shell International, including potential funding. Who’s in the pocket of Big Oil now??

Seems like more AGW scams are becoming public. Such as the AWG-style increases in NZ historical temperatures published in graphical form by NIWA (New Zealand’s National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research). NIWA is the the holder of New Zealand climatic data and contributes to the IPCC.
A paper released today (November 25) shows that plotting the public available raw data produces minimal increase, if any, over 100 years, contradicting the official government view of exaggerated warming.

Since I’m a computer science type with no credentials in climate science I’ve been hesitant to post on your site. But it’s time to say keep up the good work!
The actual evidence speaks for itself all the way around. The more I study “global warming” the more obvious the sham becomes. You’ve put the cold hard light of day on the subject better than anyone else and it’s starting to pay off. We must now hope — and work — that the truth will prevail before it’s too late.

In addition to my full time career I taught for 17 years at the community college level. At a lecture for students on AGW the best a pair of professors could come up with to support their alarmism was Al Gore’s movie and the usual statements that it’s a done deal, no more debate, etc., etc., ad nauseam. Our students have no means of protecting themselves from this proof by authority. We’ve done something akin to letting the inmates run the asylum. In many places science is just a mutual back patting society.

Over here in the UK we are very busy trying to get the BBC to actually publicise the details of the emails and the mess the code and data are in. Can anyone help us in the UK? After all we (not me personally) started the whole damn mess (or at least bear a tremendous responsibility).

Vincent R. Gray, a climate consultant from New Zealand, writes on the corruption of language used to promote AGW/Climate Change alarm in The Triumph of Doublespeak dated November 2009. I find it illuminating but not all that surprising.
Its nothing new. Its simply becoming more obvious but is as malignant as ever. Corruption of language and thus of thought has been going on for a very long time. I wrote Humpty Dumpty had a great fall! in 1996 in which I present relevant quotes from as far back as 1876. With a bit more effort, one can trace the corruption of language and the resultant corruption of thought back many thousands of years. See any of the world’s major religions, popular philosophies, and governmental policies for instructive detail.
That our fearless/feckless/fraudulent leaders are using the current corruption of language to further their not so hidden agendas is to be expected. They are simply following a long and dishonorable tradition that stretches back to the time of the first hunting and gathering tribes.
Words matter. Fundamental words matter most. Make sure you get them right because your life depends upon it.

Your cartoon does show the Greens handcuffed to the ALP dragging them down. Given the ALP have refused to negotiate with the Greens throughout that seems an odd way to portray it. Especially as the Greens oppose the ETS yet are shown to have the ball chained to them?
I’m a Greens voter, but I think that your point would be better made with the Greens already anchored under the ocean quite independent from the other two parties, and the Libs handcuffed to the ALP. And maybe with a rebel libs group being dragged kicking and screaming by the rope?

Fair point Matt. Interesting idea. But even though the ALP has not negotiated with the Greens, it’s signed up 100% to the idea of global warming (along with the Greens who’ve signed up 110%). Both the ALP and the Greens have never uttered a word of doubt. In that sense they are chained to the ETS. There will be no recovery for them when it is recognised widely as a fraud. Both parties will be seen as having been Gullible.
Perhaps the ball should be labelled “Global Warming”, (bit long). And the real price here is not in believing a scientific theory that is unproven, but in legislating for it. That’s the ETS. Hence, that’s where the dead weight is. The laws that force people to pay $1100 a year on fraud.
I know for a fact there are sceptics in the labor party. The labor party needs to review it’s own policy on letting people speak out.
At least the liberals will be able to say they tried to debate it, and they did not suppress the speeches. They do have members who can hold their heads high. So after the wash up where heads roll in the coalition, there will be members left who have worked hard to save Australia, and have been seen to be doing so.
There are smart guys in Labor, but the public hasn’t been able to see them.

Jo I’m certainly no propagandist for the ALP and totally agree with your comment they should have a bit more freedom to speak out. AGW is only 3 letters too for the ball?
Of course there are skeptics in the ALP… but they can see that introducing an ETS-lite, with massive compensation for the intensive industries, is a political winner with marginal costs especially as it isolates the Libs and forces them to public humiliation. There is zero value in an ALP skeptic speaking out. In fact the ETS is the perfect policy for someone who cares nothing for the science… as it is based in fantasy land and satisfies neither a warmist of a skeptic.
In essence, you could only endorse the ETS if you believe that both warmist and skeptical science is quackery.
I’d suggest there are warmists in the rebel libs too, just ones who want to politically undermine Turnbull and think that endorsing an ALP policy where there are other political opportunities is a bad idea. Don’t forget these are politicians…
The more I look at it though the more I see the nuclear card being played by the Libs. Especially if they see the next election as a write-off. You could really unify that party around nuclear power as a clean energy source that enables Australia to have as low a price for carbon as possible… and screws over the unions who want the coal mining jobs as a political kicker. You would get a LOT of environmental types backing them up, argue actual science with the Greens to outmanouvre them, and wedge the ALP as backing a more expensive energy for the future (clean coal – don;t target renewables that is a vote loser just now).

increase funding for appropriate, including age-appropriate, accommodation and support services for people with disability, including flexible accommodation models.
increase funding for high quality, age-appropriate institutional care for people with very high and complex care needs.
provide increased respite care services and facilities, in-home and emergency support, crisis accommodation and a range of supported accommodation options.
adequately resource pathways that support school leavers with disability to make the transition from school into meaningful employment, educational and vocational programs or other community-based activities.
support access to specialised employment support services for people with disability who choose to enter the workforce.
improve access to training, development and personal support to staff working in disability services, and adopt workforce measures to increase the professional mix of staff.
improve pay and conditions and career structures for providers of services for people with disabilities.
strengthen national disability access standards.

Mattb goes on and on with the same stuff we have here in the U.S. He’s wrong, not because we shouldn’t provide for the needs of the disabled, but because his solution is economically unsustainable and politically motivated.
My own wife is disabled and I know something about the subject from the inside. Most of the blather about helping the disabled is just that, blather. Disabled advocates first interest is not in seeing the disabled get real help or get out of their disability, but in keeping them disabled so they have a constituency. We saw this with Christopher Reeve who was loudly put down for being honest enough to say he didn’t like being disabled and fought to get his life back right up to the very end.

Is there such a thing as a well designed ETS?
Any open market that has a profit incentive will ultimately be overtaken by the speculators. The carbon market is primarily for producers and manufacturers to buy their ‘carbon’ offsets to cover them for a given time period, if the speculators can (and they will) disrupt the liquidity of these carbon credits volatility is introduced so profitability is enhanced.
Speculators and Traders LOVE volatility, manufacturers and producers don’t. We’re all going to be held hostage when this becomes Enronised.
