Don’t be envious, EUSSR – it’s been mostly cool and grey here on the midcoast of NSW. So far our coolest December on record. Mind you, since the BOM just recently shortened all our temp data, taking out the sixty years prior to 1965, it’s not much of a record. At least they managed to “lose” all those record hot months between 1910 and 1919.
Ho,Ho,Ho Merry Christmas Australia from the upside down part of the world in Vancouver Canada. I still haven’t figured out how Australians don’t fall off the planet just by standing but then I’m just an evil Law of Gravity denier funded by “Big Compressed Air’ interests.
Anyway, I’m not sure how many presents you’ll get this year because it’s not such a Merry Christmas up here. As you probably know, (please cover little childrens eyes) all the Arctic ice has melted because some of you out there have had your air conditioning turned up a little too much and so now Santa is homeless. Santa and Mrs. Claus did manage to escape before drowning but unfortunately Rudolf ate a decomposing polar bear and got a very bad case of listeria so Santa had to shoot him. Santa, the elves and all of the other reindeer are very sad but they really have no one else to blame but themselves. Sure, Santa’s sleigh is not powered by any fossil fuels but the methane gas that comes out of the tail end of Prancer alone was enough to make Mrs. Claus force Santa to sleep on the couch.
I now see Santa walking aimlessly around the streets down here in Vancouver. You can tell how hot it was up there since he just wears red and white shorts and a T shirt. Btw, what kind of goof wears sunglasses when it’s dark 24 hours a day?! Anyway, I hope everyone has a very merry fossil fuel powered Christmas sans Santa.
========
…but do you recall
the most famous reindeer of all
Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Ate a rotting polar bear
Started seeing double vision
then lost all his hair
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolf with you nose so red
I’m afraid you have to take a bullet in the head
All of the other reindeer
were very sad of what transpired.
They were upset that poor Rudolf
Died an evil AGW denier.
Thanks for the laugh from one athlete to another. I’ve already run a half marathon this morning – a group of loonies here in Adelaide have been doing this on Christmas morning for 30 years and this was my third time at it. There were several Santas to confuse the kids. Now I can eat what I like for the rest of the day.
I can’t describe enough how I appreciate Jo’s work. A lot of it goes over my head but there’s also enough that I can understand. In relation to the Carbon Tax, I like to recall an episode of Dad’s Army where Captain Mainwaring gives into the Germans’ demands and says “something’s bound to happen”! I think something will happen in 2012 to kill it off completely, simply because it is built on a house of cards.
Some interesting things about “Dad’s Army”. The part of Captain Mainwaring was played by Arthur Lowe, a private during WW2, Sergeant Wilson was played by John Le Messiers, a RAF Squadron Leader (Major) and Lance Corporal Jones was played by Clive Dunne, a Lieutenant Colonel (Wing Commander for Tony) So in 2012 “something’s definitely bound to happen”.
Rank Structures. Off topic, but always interesting.
As part of early training, we had to have a good handle on rank structure, especially for our own service, the RAAF. We learned, mainly rote, equivalent rank structures, but after training most of that other service rank structure went by the wayside, other than anything on the shoulders meant, er Officer.
Later, for no particular reason, I learned the complete rank structure for other services, and also the unit structure for equivalency etc, as we already knew in the Air Force, eg FltLT for a Flight, SqnLdr for a Squadron, WgCdr for a Wing, GpCapt for a Group, etc. (hey, simple is as simple does, remember, this is the Air Force, the, er Junior Service)
The Army was always complex, Captain for Platoon, Major for Company, LCol for Battalion, Col for Regiment, Brigadier for Brigade (that was easy) MajGen for Division, LtGen for Corps, and Gen for Army.
I read a truly wonderful book in the 90’s that helped to imprint it for me, “Once An Eagle’ by Anton Myrer, the definitive military fiction novel of all time, and if you can get hold of it, it’s worth reading.
Navy, well, who knows? I could never get the lower Officer ranks on equivalence until Leiutenant, same rank as FltLt and Capt.
Many years ago, before I became aware of this “thing” called man made Global Warming there was a visit to out town, Newcastle, by the famous David Suzuki.
Being interested in nature, my wife and I paid to go and see him speak at a local venue and turned up eagerly waiting to hear words of wisdom from this TV personality.
It was so long ago I can’t remember the content but I can distinctly
remember the disappointment and disgust I felt at the comments made by this paragon of green virtue.
Ever since I have followed his ongoing TV and newspaper commentary and found to my great relief that my original impression was correct.
In summary, a self absorbed, unscientific, nutter propagandist with a contempt for anyone who disagrees with him.
I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and colleagues, but it is difficult in today’s world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on her advice I wish to say the following:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee .
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
Best Regards ( without prejudice )

Have a great Christmas and thank you for not only keeping the junk scientists honest but for calling a spade a spade and helping to defeat the PC nonsense that is crippling the developed world.
I found a wonderful Christmas present for the CAGW advocates and the Hockystick Jockies. The temperature was reported to be 237.3 F just a few miles from where I live. It was reported to be measured on November 6, 2011 at 10.21 pm. See: http://syv-online.com/wxdisplay.php
“Help. The sky is burning. The sky is burning. Oh woe is us. All is lost!” The science is settled. You can’t argue with data from high tech weather stations. Our goose is cooked along with everybody and everything else. Hmmmm…I wonder how I made it through the Apocalypse intact? Oh well.
Wait just a minute…does that mean we can stop worrying about our carbon footprint and the carbon emission exchanges and all that rot?
Merry Christmans, everyone, and thank you Ms. Nova for providing us with this venue and to the posters for the community and debate no matter your position.
Merry Christmas one and all, Thank you Jo for keeping me entertained as well as informed again this year. A special merry christmas to Jo’s many great posters for expanding my knowledge over the past couple of years.
Turning into a beautiful day in Tasmania. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Thank you Jo for so generously providing such an interesting site where we can not only vent our frustrations but also be educated by you and the wonderful cross-section of posters from all parts of the globe. This old dog has learnt many new tricks and the variety of topics on your site and many others have kept my fading neurons pretty active! I look forward to a New Year of blogging with the people here I regard as good friends and some at times, almost family!
Merry Christmas everyone! It’s a cold wet depressing Christmas Eve here in Houston. Wish we could be over in sunny Perth with our family and friends….maybe next year!
Cheers!
Merry Christmas from Toowoomba; sunny but cool
and Tony my son is in Croatia so sadly can’t see him today but I can see my mother so that’s nice
As Tony said Christmas is for families
And for helping those families not as fortunate
Best Wishes, Merry Christmas and Holiday greetings to everyone in OZ and all Jo’s readers. I live on the beach, but there is no way in h*** I’m gonna fire up the barbie. I envy you…. of course, it would be really hard to have fourth of July parades in the middle of a blizzard….
As I said on Tallbloke’s comment page….
If you were leaving out a refreshment for Santa there are two must-haves. The reindeer are fond of watermelon juice, so I hear, you just need to mince up a few. And if CO2 is as powerful as the UN says it is, you only have to leave Santa some fizzy drink to “warm” his belly. 🙂
Here’s to the next 10 years of cooling (they didn’t see it coming). Let’s just hope we don’t have an ice age until we get our mess sorted out.
Think of life in the 1880s and then look at the lifestyle we have today in this country. Look around you at the techno-industrial wonderland and be amazed and impressed at what science, creativity, and hard work can build for everyone. My gift to you all this Christmas is this new pair of eyes. 😉

Merry Christmas Jo, and also to all of your readers, from sunny Southern California. Just celebrated Christmas Eve with a dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado with the kids and grandkids.
Looking forward to a great 2012 where we will continue to push back against the AGW scam.
Merry Christmas to all and thanks Jo for all your dedicated work and inspiration.
Remember the famous words of inspiration:
Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
Many thanks for your blogs throughout the year. You provide a very healthy daily dose of thoughts! Fighting for truth gives you the moral high-ground in the CAGW battle but your ability to explain issues clearly and with great insight makes reading enjoyable and enlightening. I also have to thank all those who comment here as well, including the ‘ugly’ ones who give us a different perspective.
Hope you have a merry Christmas and Santa brings you many good things.
Amidst the talk of appeals to authority, confirmation bias, noble cause corruption and other such psychological terms, here is a simplification in a picture. Happy Christmas for 2012, in case I forget. http://www.geoffstuff.com/santa.jpg
Best wishes for 2012 and thank you to Jo and her posters from around the globe. Thanks,Geoff S for the cartoon, a Xmas message to be pondered by all of us:-)
This is O/T I know but could be very important in reference to the global nature of Med WP when compared to Mod warming.
This study involving scientists from many countries finds that S America had a warmer MedWP than our warming today and it lasted for at least 500 years.
Ooh! We had a little chat about GW in my household for Christmas! I must say that I dominated even with my limited knowledge of ‘knitty gritty’ parts of it.
Perhaps in the new year we can discuss plausible science with what is implausible.
Currently our scientists suffer from a terminal case of PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY SYNDROME.
Only the statistics from temperature data is of importance and all other areas are of insignificance.
While Big Brother is trapped in the rapidly collapsing ego cage that He designed to protect Himself from the Great Reality that surrounds and sustains us.
there is more and more anecdotal evidence that CFL’s can be a fire hazard:
27 Dec: UK Daily Mail: Fire hazard fears over compact fluorescent lamps – after they’ve stopped working
But when a CFL can no longer produce light, the electronics in its base will still try to function, sometimes leading to overheating, smoke and fire…
Traditional bulbs will gradually be phased out in the coming years…
So far there have been 34 complaints about CFLs emitting smoke or a burning odour and four reports of one actually catching fire… http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2078885/Fire-hazard-fears-compact-fluorescent-lamps.html#ixzz1hjv2JpZQ
21 Dec: Toronto Star: Ontario backs down on incandescent bulb ban
Energy Minister Chris Bentley confirmed Wednesday that Ontario is scrapping a five-year-old promise to make it “lights out” for incandescent bulbs in 2012 by banning stores from selling them.
He blamed a recent federal government decision to delay new energy efficiency standards for light bulbs until Jan. 1, 2014, when it will become illegal to import inefficient incandescent lighting across the country.
“Did it make sense for us to have a different approach from the federal government on this issue? No,” Bentley said…
Ottawa changed its plans to “allow for innovations in technology” and to improve recycling options for new energy-efficient bulbs, which last far longer and use less electricity than incandescents, but contain mercury.
That means consumers should be disposing of compact fluorescent bulbs in hazardous waste dumps, as they would with old paint and other toxic household substances, said Bentley.
The two-year reprieve for the incandescents ban will give governments time to come up with a “better approach” for disposing of compact fluorescents, he added…
Under political pressure from opposition parties over rising electricity prices caused by upgrading the provincial power system, Premier Dalton McGuinty’s government last year brought in a 10 per cent cut on residential, farm and small business electric bills called the Clean Energy Benefit.
But taxpayers are still paying the cost of that break on their bills, because it costs the provincial treasury more than $1 billion annually at a time when the government is running a $16 billion deficit.
As well, Bentley has still not said how much it will cost taxpayers for cancelled power plants in Oakville and Mississauga. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1105206–ontario-backs-down-on-incandescent-bulb-ban?bn=1
16 Dec: ABC: Congress Defunds Ban on Incandescent Light Bulbs but Doesn’t Quite Save Them
Incandescent light bulbs are back.
A last-minute rider attached to the omnibus government spending bill defanged the 2007 energy standards for light bulbs that would have rendered the good ol’ incandescent all but obsolete, starting Jan. 1, by stripping funding for enforcing the ban…
But what many Republicans are celebrating as a win for individuals’ light-bulb-choosing freedom will probably not save the energy-guzzling bulbs from disappearing off store shelves.
“The industry has moved on,” said Larry Lauck, a spokesman for the American Lighting Association.
Lauck said U.S. light bulb manufacturers have already “retooled” their production lines to build more efficient bulbs, he said…
“The manufacturers have invested millions into the transitions and a delay in enforcement undermines those investments and creates regulatory uncertainty,” Higbee (spokesman for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association) said. “Without [federal] enforcement, it does allow bad actors to sell noncompliant products without fear of enforcement and that creates a competitive disadvantage for law-abiding companies.” http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/congress-defunds-ban-on-incandescent-light-bulbs-but-doesnt-quite-save-them/
26 Dec: Australian: Financial firms raided over batts
The Australian Federal Police has confirmed it has targeted “numerous financial institutions” in the months since officers simultaneously executed 35 search warrants across NSW, Queensland and Victoria earlier this year…
It has been previously reported that investigators suspect insulators manipulated and inflated quotes in collusion to secure work under guidelines that required the homeowner to seek two quotes, before paying the installer and later seeking reimbursement from the Environment Department.
Alongside the AFP, the Department of Climate Change has been working with the Australian Taxation Office to investigate potential fraud under the program that was rolled out as a part of the Rudd government’s economic stimulus package…
Of the 58,281 households with foil insulation installed under the scheme, 46,303 have been checked, with the rest due to be completed by April. Another 188,128 households with non-foil insulation installed under the program have also been inspected.
***As at November 30, 224 house fires had been linked to the program with 30 of those causing structural damage. Four people lost their lives from electrocution or heat exhaustion.
The Australian reported on Saturday that the Department of Climate Change also has received 35 claims seeking tens of millions of dollars in compensation on the grounds the program was hampered by defective administration.
One of the claimants, insulation installer Doug Mill, from Sydney-based The Demand Group, is preparing to lodge a challenge in the Federal Court, alleging the scheme itself was in breach of the Constitution… http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/climate/financial-firms-raided-over-batts/story-e6frg6xf-1226230816879
27 Dec: DNA India: Arvind Kumar: The great global climate con
India must eschew the global climate deal that was recently proposed in Durban as it will infringe on the economic freedom of Indians. The proposal seeks to raise money for a global climate fund by setting up an international license-raj for industries and imposing shipping and carbon taxes. The taxes and fees will result in the transfer of wealth from India and China to the West as the two countries will contribute the most to global economic activity in coming years.
The shipping tax will increase the cost of various goods while the carbon tax will reduce India’s competitiveness by retarding the growth of its industries.
While India potentially faces these hardships, supporters of the fund have prepared themselves to reap a windfall. The licences, known as carbon credits, will be traded on financial exchanges resulting in billions of dollars in transaction fees and profits for the European Climate Exchange and financial firms like Goldman Sachs…
The proposed climate fund will be similar to other international funds that award contracts and grants to corporations and non-profit groups based in the US and Europe. Many members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will receive huge grants. It is little wonder, then, that despite claims of helping poor countries, it is the politicians in the West who are eager to set up the fund.
The rationale behind the fund too is unconvincing. Proponents of the fund claim that global warming is underway and warn of a catastrophic flood of biblical proportions if they are not given money. Supporters of the claim have been likened to members of a doomsday cult. In the 1970s, they predicted the onset of an ice age due to smoke from stoves in India blocking out sunlight. At that time, India was forced to purchase so-called ‘clean stoves’ from the World Bank for millions of dollars. In recent times, Al Gore, the messiah of global warming believers, has accused India’s poor of heating up the earth by using kerosene stoves to cook food. Ironically, Al Gore’s private jet plane burns up thousands of gallons of aviation grade kerosene on each flight.
Data related to the global warming claims too have not been without controversy and some scientists have invited ethics investigations due to scientific misconduct…
In recent years, NASA has also quietly lowered its baseline long term global average temperature from 15 to 14 degrees Celsius, allowing it to claim higher temperature deviations. Despite the change, collating NASA’s press releases over several years shows a decline in global temperature. NASA now puts out numbers from a computer software model instead of actual temperatures.
Indians who oppose corruption should also fight it at the global level. The desperation of the proponents of the climate fund to clinch the deal is seen from their wooing of Indian politicians at conferences organised at Copenhagen, Cancun and Durban. It is important for India to reject the climate deal and ensure that its interests are not sold by politicians for personal gains. http://www.dnaindia.com/analysis/column_the-great-global-climate-con_1630432
28 Dec: AFP: India ‘won’t sign binding emissions pact’: minister
India said Tuesday it would reject any global pact legally binding it to cut greenhouse gas emissions as such a move could stifle economic growth needed to eradicate poverty…
“There is no question of signing a legally binding agreement at this point of our development. We need to make sure that our development does not suffer,” Natarajan told the upper house of parliament.
“Our emissions are bound to grow as we have to ensure our social and economic development and fulfil the imperative of poverty eradication,” the minister added.
Some 42 percent of Indians, or 455 million people, live on less than $1.25 a day, according to the World Bank… http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hbQEJL8fZ4bFFLfI-rTlPq9m4hqA?docId=CNG.f7ab34b17766df497253151fb35e8bcd.591

Just tried to buy a couple more of Plimer’s book ‘How to get Expelled from School’ The first print is sold out. The new print is expected by 5th Jan. Lets hope a lot of politicians and children got it in their Christmas stockings. While it is allegedly targeted at Children, I find it ideal to discuss with adults as their eyes glaze over with anything more complex.
Thank you for what you have done Jo, you have achieved some notoriety in the world, infamous even in some circles. May 2012 see the demise of this AGW non-sense and science start to heal its tarnished image. Cern will probably be shut down and turned into an amusement park when the god particle fails to appear. One can hope that the new year will bring an epiphany to all the sciences that have imaginary hidden heat or friends of a transient nature with charm or spin. This coming year your blog and input into reality is needed more than ever.
Take it from an architect, because they are climate experts after all, that Cottesloe Beach will be no more by 2100!
He goes on to say that the current (yet to be finalised) Town Planning Scheme) is:
…”ethically, morally and legally wrong” because it did not account for climate change.
Thankfully the community has a bit more common sense than the architect:
Cottesloe mayor Kevin Morgan said the council wanted to ensure that foreshore redevelopment took into account climate change but community opinion on the topic was not at a stage where “we’re about to start moving private property”.
I came across this email from Keith Briffa, that I have not seen before. (Might have missed it though!) In it he seems to accept that there was a MWP in the Southern Hemisphere and that it was as warm or warmer than now.
Happy New Year, Jo – and thanks for all the hard work posting stuff to keep us poor Poms sane.
Here’s a thought. Just back from a Christmas cruise from Miami to Key West and Cozumel in Mexico – in which the temperature (on Christmas Eve) was 28C – and you know what..? Those guys are HAPPY….
Another thought. This was our first cruise – and just covering that TINY corner of the Caribbean demonstrated to me just how vast our oceans are – so how the flippin’ ‘eck could a bit of melting snow make the slightest difference to that huge body of water known as the world’s oceans. Someone’s calculations are out by more than a few decimal points, methinks…
Well it is a much merrier Christmas this year than last with less determination to never give in necessary in the New Year. That’s because this year we’ve witnessed quiet rollback of some of the lunar left green policy prescriptions. Solar feed-in subsidies have been slashed and the latest is the dirty corn ethanol subsidy
The signs of retreat by the climate catastrophists have been popping up everywhere of late with the calls of greenwashing
The rationalists are beginning to come out everywhere and tell it like it is-
‘SA Water chief executive John Ringham said it had abandoned the commitment to make the desalination plant carbon-neutral because there was “no clear, agreed definition of what carbon neutrality was”.’
Yes they’re coming out of the woodwork everywhere and now for Gillard, Brown and Co and their moronic feeding of Morgan Sachs and Co. She was in home town Adelaide for Proclamation Day and naturally couldn’t resist a photo op at Adelaide Oval to announce a $30mill giveaway for an underground carpark for the Oval redevelopment. What no bicycle park Prime Minister? What will Bob, Clover, etc have to say about that and how much more on top of the $15bill in green slush so far will you have to fork over to shut them up? Whatever it takes now you two faced carbon tax liar.
Just more proof that we can’t make a scrap of difference by reducing our tiny co2 emissions by 5% by 2020. Some of the numbers from the developing world are staggering for 2010. ( India, China etc) Please wake up silly JB.
Adelaide’s scorching New Year’s Day 2012 maximum of 41.6C wasn’t a record. On January 1st, 1900 it reached 44.4C, or 111.9F as it would have been reported then. What a start to the 1900s, although not a new century!
My long time brother -in- law had told me never to speak to him again on Boxing Day over Global warming. My brother -in- law whom I had not seen for well over a year, who discussed with me about putting the world to rights on many other issues. But, when it came to Global warming, I sat and listened patiently to what he had to say. When he had finished I guessed it was my cue… or so I thought. For the next five minutes I raised bullet point after bullet point debunking him. He went all silent on me. And just when you thought he would concede, his silence just broke into angry words. The funny thing about this it’s not even a debate we are having… and besides I haven’t even started yet. I guessed we now where we both stand on this issue. But I firmly believed one day given time and patience, and after a bit of research he too will join the fight to put an end to this BIG GLOBAL WARMING SCAM.
Happy Christmas to all.

Don’t be envious, EUSSR – it’s been mostly cool and grey here on the midcoast of NSW. So far our coolest December on record. Mind you, since the BOM just recently shortened all our temp data, taking out the sixty years prior to 1965, it’s not much of a record.
========
…but do you recall
the most famous reindeer of all
Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Ate a rotting polar bear
Started seeing double vision
then lost all his hair
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
Rudolf with you nose so red
I’m afraid you have to take a bullet in the head
All of the other reindeer
were very sad of what transpired.
They were upset that poor Rudolf
Died an evil AGW denier.

This parody was based on The worst kind of ugly climate propaganda: David Suzuki targets kids at Christmas in the name of climate change.
My apologies to anyone who thinks this is inappropriate but I agree with JN’s sentiments here.

thanks for the laugh. I agree with the sentiment. I loved the description of the Santas in the streets of Vancouver.
Cheers from downunder.
10
Enjoy your day everyone.
10

Lt, LCdr, Cdr, Capt, Comm, RAdm, VAdm, and Adm.
Tony.

Hi Athlete
Thanks for sharing the new verses.
Now to David Suzuki.
Not a role model for budding scientists.
10
Sorry about that.
Merry Christmas All.
10
Merry Christmas, Jo!
Jesus IS the Reason for the Season!
…and He is Far more substantial than AGW ever will be.
10
I’ll take the top off one to you. Have a good un.
10
Merry Christmas one and all!
10
merry xmas Joanne and David.
10
Jo, I got this in the mail the other day…
Have a great Christmas and thank you for not only keeping the junk scientists honest but for calling a spade a spade and helping to defeat the PC nonsense that is crippling the developed world.
10
I’d send that greeting right back at you, but I can’t afford the giant sized card I’d need!
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all, again!
10
Treeman,
That’s almost too true to be funny! But I’ve never been a fan of political correctness. So Merry Christmas, even to your friend’s lawyer. 🙂
10
As they say: “Have a happy holiday.”
10
A very Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
Keep up the good work in 2012.
10
Merry Christmas to you Jo and to most of the people posting here – you have taught me a great deal.
Thank you

Turning into a beautiful day in Tasmania. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Thank you Jo for so generously providing such an interesting site where we can not only vent our frustrations but also be educated by you and the wonderful cross-section of posters from all parts of the globe. This old dog has learnt many new tricks and the variety of topics on your site and many others have kept my fading neurons pretty active! I look forward to a New Year of blogging with the people here I regard as good friends and some at times, almost family!
10
Merry Christmas Joanne.
10
A Peaceful Christmas to Joanne, and all who come here.
Today, be somewhere where you can see the faces of your children, or for those like me who are a little older, your grand children.
That is what Christmas is about, family, and remember, it all started with another family.
Be happy.
Tony.

Merry Christmas everyone! It’s a cold wet depressing Christmas Eve here in Houston. Wish we could be over in sunny Perth with our family and friends….maybe next year!

Merry Christmas and a Good New Year Jo, and also, to nearly all of the people posting here.
Thank you Deniers and Refuters.

from Brisbane, best of luck,

Many thanks for your blogs throughout the year. You provide a very healthy daily dose of thoughts! Fighting for truth gives you the moral high-ground in the CAGW battle but your ability to explain issues clearly and with great insight makes reading enjoyable and enlightening. I also have to thank all those who comment here as well, including the ‘ugly’ ones who give us a different perspective.
Hope you have a merry Christmas and Santa brings you many good things.

This is O/T I know but could be very important in reference to the global nature of Med WP when compared to Mod warming.
This study involving scientists from many countries finds that S America had a warmer MedWP than our warming today and it lasted for at least 500 years.

Jo,
Perhaps in the new year we can discuss plausible science with what is implausible.
Currently our scientists suffer from a terminal case of PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY SYNDROME.
Only the statistics from temperature data is of importance and all other areas are of insignificance.

Greetings from the USSA!
Despite Big Brother all is well.
The Universe is unfolding exactly as it should!
Today NASA has twin lunar probes measuring gravity “straight down to the core” of the Moon!
http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-12-twin-probes-circle-moon-gravity.html
This type of measurement on the Sun will show if:
1. Solar ejecta like that approaching us now [ http://spaceweather.com/ ] comes from a pulsar in the core of the Sun, or if
2. The Sun is a stable heat source and man-made CO2 (AGW) causes climate change, as Big Brother claimed.

there is more and more anecdotal evidence that CFL’s can be a fire hazard:
27 Dec: UK Daily Mail: Fire hazard fears over compact fluorescent lamps – after they’ve stopped working
But when a CFL can no longer produce light, the electronics in its base will still try to function, sometimes leading to overheating, smoke and fire…
Traditional bulbs will gradually be phased out in the coming years…
So far there have been 34 complaints about CFLs emitting smoke or a burning odour and four reports of one actually catching fire…

As well, Bentley has still not said how much it will cost taxpayers for cancelled power plants in Oakville and Mississauga.

should have posted this reminder:
“Without [federal] enforcement, it does allow bad actors to sell noncompliant products without fear of enforcement and that creates a competitive disadvantage for law-abiding companies.”

One of the claimants, insulation installer Doug Mill, from Sydney-based The Demand Group, is preparing to lodge a challenge in the Federal Court, alleging the scheme itself was in breach of the Constitution…

28 Dec: Times of India: India against binding pact on emission cuts: Jayanthi

28 Dec: AFP: India ‘won’t sign binding emissions pact’: minister
India said Tuesday it would reject any global pact legally binding it to cut greenhouse gas emissions as such a move could stifle economic growth needed to eradicate poverty…
“There is no question of signing a legally binding agreement at this point of our development. We need to make sure that our development does not suffer,” Natarajan told the upper house of parliament.
“Our emissions are bound to grow as we have to ensure our social and economic development and fulfil the imperative of poverty eradication,” the minister added.
Some 42 percent of Indians, or 455 million people, live on less than $1.25 a day, according to the World Bank…

Neville.
Percentages are great.
Of the Total Possible Greenhouse Effect of Water, Natural CO2 and Human Origin CO2:
Human CO2 is 4% of 5% or 0.002% of the total.
This is excluding all other known effects such as those related to orbital mechanics and so on.
We are truly insignificant.
To give an example:
If only the GHG effect was responsible for the 0.6 deg C rise from 1850 to now then WE HUMANS and our vile CO2 would account for 0.0012 deg C.
YOU CANT EVEN MEASURE THIS!
We need to push the basic science!

I’ll tuck this away here!
Adelaide’s scorching New Year’s Day 2012 maximum of 41.6C wasn’t a record. On January 1st, 1900 it reached 44.4C, or 111.9F as it would have been reported then. What a start to the 1900s, although not a new century!

Hi Ian
the hottest I can recall here in Newcastle was 41.7 deg C but we used to have runs of a week at 40.0 to 40.5 in the distant past.
Thank heavens for the southerly buster that came roaring up from Sydney!.

Hey KK!
We had 44 and a bit on New Years day 06 (or was it 05?).
May I point out that we on the South Coast send the southerlies. Sydney only sends you its crap!

All The Best To The New Year.
