Cheerio! Thanks to the dedicated souls who nominated it, this blog is a finalist in 2012 Web Bloggies Award. (Ta Pat, Val, Baa). š ! That’s a success on its own (it’s already bringing in new readers).Ā Cheers!
It’s time to be savvy.Ā As Anthony essentially says, we know people who don’t like free-speech and independent thinkers are good at networking and make the effort to run campaigns to sabotage another site’s successes. We don’t need to stoop to that, but it sure helps if we vote for the sites we like.
It’s your chance to guide the internet crowd in the direction you think is best.
Merci, Jo
[Here’s what the Australian and NZ category looks like. ]———————————————————————————
Anthony spells out how to vote in details here:
(Copied but with some changes from WUWT. I edited, so blame me if anything is wrong.)
- For Best Australian Blog, we have two Australian climate blogs, JoNova and Australian Climate Madness [Damn shame you can’t vote for both eh? ]
- Climate Audit is in the running for the for Best Canadian blog
- Tallblokeās Talkshop for Best European blog
- WUWT is up in two categories, Best science/technology blog, and Lifetime Achievement Award.Ā
Hereās how to vote:
1. Visit http://2012.bloggi.es/ for the main voting page,
2. Locate the category thumbnails for the categories you want to vote on (you need to vote at least three categories to submit a vote).
Hereās what the Sci-Tech Category looks like:
3. If you want to vote for WUWT (or any of the blog categories), click on the little grey circle in the lower right of the icon, and it turns into a checkbox and greys out the other thumbnails. Note the contest rotates the thumbnails for fairness in placement, so it may not look like the image order above.
4. Scroll up/down. Vote for any other blogs you like in any other categories the same way. You donāt have to vote for all other blog categories. But if you know a site is useful, that hard working blogger will appreciate the help.
5. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page: (note ā donāt use cursor keys, it will change your vote!)
6. Type in the nonsense Captcha word (whatever it happens to be), put in a VALID email address. Click SUBMIT.
7. Look for an email in your inbox. You need to verify your vote. If the email doesn’t come, your vote doesn’t count. (Check your spam filter).Ā Click on the link in your email!
9. Spread the word! Twitter, Facebook, mailing lists, friends, comments on other blogs, and most importantly, if you run a blog … š Thanks for your help.
You know that some others who dislike what we do here will try to create anti-vote campaigns as they have done in the past. Success depends on whether there are more people who view WUWT as a science resource versus those that simply want to haul out the hate, and slap on the ādenierā label.
10. Remember, while winning is fun, the way you play the game is just as important. Donāt cheat. Donāt encourage cheating, and simply let the chips fall where they may.
Also, there are a couple of other blogs worth noting.
In the Political category, American Thinker is up against the propaganda blog Think Progress (Joe Rommās Center for American Progress outfit) and the Huffington Post. Another David-Goliath battle.
Bienvenue, Jo. J’ai votĆ© pour ton blog et c’est un de mes favorits š
00
“G’Day Jo. I voted for your blog and it’s one of my favourites.
Nothing lost in translation š
00
Why should it be? English is just French spoken with a German accent. š
00
Jo,
You deserve a large, shiny, expensive medal for all your work fighting the good fight on the side of the angels and The Enlightenment. Sadly, most all the medal-giving organisations have been captured by the ideological left (who can forget the laughable nomination of Obama for a Nobel Peace Prize after just 11 days in office!).
I can’t arrange a medal but I have given you the big tick on the bloggies and have spread the word. Keep shining that bright light of reason (and humour) on the forces of darkness and unreason. Never give up. You are an inspiration!
00
Done – good luck Jo. By the way, the circle is now a square.
00
Good grief, the swine are cheating already – up and at ’em lads – show them no quarter …
00
Panic over, they are still circles – showed the blighters whats what eh?
00
Congrats and good luck. I’ll vote for you as soon as I get home. You truly deserve it.
00
All ready voted for you and Steve & Tallbloke & Watts.
Thanks you guy’s keep up the good fight Lorne50 from Canada
00
Joanne; you’ve got my ‘tick’ – good luck, you deserve to win.
You’re polite and courteous (even when baited by ignorant trolls) and your logic is impeccable – keep up the great work.
00
I am very proud that I voted for you. Keep up the good work.
00
Jo,
You have got my tick, you certainly deserve to win the Australian Section.
You run a clean and informative site, that I turn to, right after WUWT. Keep up the good work.
00
JoNova’s is usually my first port of call, as :-
a) it’s so short and easy to type on a smartphone,:-)
(convenience is everything for us internet generation)
b) it very generously has convenient & readily accessible links to all the other climate sites.
c) and what first attracted me to it is how clear , well laid out and easy to navigate it is.
d) & not to mention of course, just the pure quality, accessibility & incomparable clarity of information and even the camaradie.
.
It really doesn’t do it justice, being nominated only in a regional category.
I’ve learned more about science here than I ever did at school.
00
My vote for Jo went in 2 days ago! BTW if you visit my link you will see I have put in a top 100 searches of the FOIA archive. Mann certainly is a man of interest, Although perhaps not for reasons he would like..
00
Queue the CAGW crazies saying Gina Rhinehart has paid lackeys to nominate and vote for this site, or perhaps it was the demonic wraiths of “BigOil” … now with added scary quotes!
00
Gee, would that be why Gina just bought into Fairfax Media too, so she could tell the World to vote for this Blogg ?
I can think of no better reason,…. unless she’s thinking of running for Prime Minister perhaps.
00
Blimey, I was only joking but it seems there may be an appetite for a lot more of Jo’s style of journalism after all, if this scoop by a hapless mainstream hack can be trusted. Monckton advises Big Mining on a Fox Media for Australia
00
This link may work better.
00
Both of those videos have been removed during the last 11 hours. Any hints on what they contained?
00
This is what GetUp are peein’ their pants about. From their mouthpiece at the ABC
00
Bulldust,
Ahem [cough] … surely you mean, “Cue the CAGW crazies…?” I would hate to have a line of them, each awaiting their turn. š
00
Dang I was hoping no one would notice the stuff up… I realised as soon as I hit post comment.
00
CAGW crazies to the far queue, please.
00
You’ve given me an idea. Will circulate encouraging a vote for the JoNova blog.
But it will have to be a contra deal. Vote here.
00
Dropped in to leave my vote for Jo yesterday.
There is NO ONE in Australia that deserves to win more.
We all appreciate the wonderful effort Jo musters continually to sock it to the scam and keep the b……S honest.
Cheers,
00
Vote early, vote often. I did. Don’t forget you can vote once per email address. I am sure most of you have at least two email addresses. Most ISPs allow you to create multiple email addresses usually without additional cost. So, get to it ā¦ stack those ballot boxes!
00
You got my vote yesterday. Thanks for all your hard work, Jo!
00
Why would you NOT vote for Joanne?
I have learned more about the Science here than at all the other sites combined.
Not just from Joanne alone, but from all the informed people who come in and leave comments.
It’s a rare thing to find both a ‘blog’ site and a forum all rolled into one.
Tony.
00
Yes, but I like Australian Climate Madness as well.
By the look of the nominations, climate skeptics are an internet force to be reckoned with.
00
Ahem, ahem. Jo, I’ve voted for you before your impassioned plea!
Because you DESERVE it!
00
Well deserved Jo. I cast my vote two days ago. I don’t comment, but avidly follow your blog and the comments of your well informed followers. Thank you all for helping to educate this not quite so young gal.
[It’s a shame you don’t comment Cheryl. Your views and opinions are just as valuable as anyone elses. mod oggi]
00
Hi Cheryl, it doesn’t matter how old you are as my brain tells me every time I try to jump a fence or run, I’m not 16 any more.. The mind believes it can jump the fence but the body stops it short.
Anyway we would all welcome you input and look forward to any opinion you may have so don’t be shy š
00
Between a series of events occurring and those events later being described in a history book, a process of documentation, moderation, adjustment to remove biases, political influence to add new confirmation biases, and commercial compromise takes place. If you want to know what happened in Australia you could try to read the web site of the book of the historian of the place of the event. If you want to know what’s important in a situation, you can skip the middleman and just ask someone who lived through it.
The message does get through. This is a picture which was a finalist for Imgur’s best picture of the year 2011, and bear in mind that web site is populated mainly by born-yesterday 15-second-attention-span superficial pseudo-trendy teenagers.
Remember, on the Internet nobody knows you’re a dog. (I was shocked to see that cartoon was nearly 20 years ago, but surely that can’t mean I’m getting old???)
No worries Cheryl, comment `til the cows come home!
00
Cheryl and others,
It’s time for you and all the other readers of Jo’s blog to stand up and be heard!
The fact is that a top-level blog prominent nationally in an international debate, like Jo’s, has literally hundreds of readers for each one who takes the time to post a comment.
Jo’s blog is followed by many of today’s leading voices in opinion and others with access to corridors of influence, various political operatives, speech writers, NGO strategists, content producers searching for an angle and the thinktank blokes who are paid to invent for our political parties the policies we’ll see presented in 2013 and beyond. A list of people who are “lurking” here I’m sure would shock us all.
At the very least to make a comment on Jo’s blog is to make your voice heard in forum of participatory democracy that is being documented and measured by someone for entry into some complex calculus towards decision making… To sit by quietly, for whatever reason, when you feel strongly about a point or have a good idea rattling around in your head makes you what our American friends call part of the Silent Majority.
You can supplement your voting franchise by making your thoughts known now in good time to have some influence in the national dialog which will inform the coming electoral cycle. Even if all you have to offer at the moment is a link to someone else’s thoughts pertinent to the thread that could be the breakthrough connect-the-dots link that is needed.
But it’s much more transformative than just that…
To present an idea here is to take a thought that only exists inside your head and make it available for the whole world to share, evaluate and incorporate into the global dialog which feeds into the course of human history. Sounds like sci-fi but it’s also true. The Internet is this giant memetic pool. Most of the time our ideas are expressions of previous memes submitted to the pool but in need of refreshing, and occasionally an idea is either a completely new idea or more likely a previous existing idea transmogrified. If the new idea is useful it contributes to the evolution of human thought in its small (or perhaps not so small) way. It’s probably your moral obligation to post a comment if you even vaguely suspect you have an interesting idea…Everyone has good ideas, but they’re only useful if you share them. A bit like every cell in your body contributes something to the whole that is you.
Or you should consider joining the debate just for the kicks! š
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKW4F0Nu-UY
00
Yes, congratulations Jo – richly deserved
00
Good hunting, Ms Nova!
When I read about this on WUWT and followed the link, all AW’s suggestions were already topping my existing Bookmarks.
But I’ve gained a couple of new bookmarks,(including Aus/Clim/Madn) of which I’d never previously heard.
Kindly win this year.
00
Congratulations, Jo Nova!
You have my 100% support! It’s hardly a surprise you’ve come this far in the Bloggies. Not only are you a great person with a keen sense of relevancy but you’ve put such an amazing amount of energy into his blog I don’t know how you do it.
Nor do I know how to tell you how much your blog meant to me back in the days when we had to spend every third comment trying to explain to some self-righteous sod that calling others denialists was a kind of bigotry, if not outright hate speech, and certainly no way to conduct oneself in a rational debate. But they never really wanted a debate, did they?
Your blog is a safe haven, a place to go, to learn the latest research, to commiserate with fellow political and scientific dissidents, many of whom are, like me, unable to share their suspicions about the Climate scam with colleagues in public for fear of the backlash it would have on their careers. Here on your blog we can read news and research that once was simply unavailable in Australia. For some of us it’s like living in the Soviet Union before perestroika, covertly listening to the BBC on secret radios kept hidden in the attic. I kid you not, when I say I know of people employed in our civil service and in research who would sooner download porn on their work computer then risk logging on to joannenova.com.au…
But you don’t have to be CSIRO researcher, a public servant or an earth science academic or student to feel the climate of oppression.
No, the oppression spreads all the way across Australia from Canberra to our clubs and grade schools to every Land Care group right down to shire council DA approval processes and environment plans to abandon whole beachfront communities based upon hysteria. Even the livelihoods of honest family farmers like Janet and Matt Thompson aren’t safe in the climate of terror from the vengeance of self-righteous dweebs vested with the arbitrary power to destroy those who displease them.
So thank you for being there, Jo Nova! It’s not over by a long shot, of course. I certainly can’t reveal who I am or what I stand for publicly without unacceptable repercussions for the ones I love around me. But now we can see a light ahead through the darkness.
Yes, the times are a changin’ and the climate skepticism movement will evolve from a gaggle of disenfranchised dissidents to people with a voice that can now be heard…people who the country will turn towards for a source of new policy ideas to build a better Australia. It’s no longer enough to be simply against something as the paradigms Jo has fought for rise to replace the “Consensus.”
As our worldview becomes the mainstream the only way to avoid the same sort of hysterical and oppressive self-righteousness that characterises the parties in power today is by applying the same techniques of transparent and honest rational inquiry based on the established rules of scientific method — that served the climate skeptics so well — towards all the issues that challenge Australia, from ecological and energy issues, on to economics and the vast range of politics beyond. We’ll need to retain the voracious sense of curiosity, the creativity and the good humour that powered the skeptics through the mini-Dark Ages of climate change hysteria.
We’ll need Jo Nova and her blog to remain the clearinghouse and forum central for the skeptical movement in Australia during the critical transitional years to come.
It our turn now to make some history!
Every vote counts.
00
Jo.. Congratulations on the nomination that is an achievement in itself, you should be very proud.
I hope that individuals will provide you with the ultimate prize but take solace in the fact that you fight for truth and honesty.
I have given you my vote as well as Andrew Watt, Steve McIntyre & Tallbloke.
Keep up the great work š
00
A beacon of truth & honesty in a raging sea of spin, profligate self-interest & arrogant self-righteousness.
00

on account of the above, Brisbane suffered a billion dollar flood last year.
the Wivenhoe Dam is so huge, it could supply water to its customers for many, many decades, even if it didn’t rain. due to CAGW alarmism, we have had severe water restrictions, then a massive increase in the price of Bulk Water, which means most customers can now barely afford to pay their water bills. in recent times, the State Govt has been begging people to use more water! when they couldn’t afford to do so, zigalitres of water had to be released in the weeks running up to our recent rains.
won’t even go into the moth-balled desal plant on the Gold Coast.
enough is enough.
00
Before I started coming to Joanne’s site on a regular basis, I was just doing my own thing at the site I contribute to, occasionally linking in to other sites.
As my blog is based in Pennsylvania, I have to explain things with greater clarity for American readers not familiar with Australia.
As this major flood was breaking I was following it on numerous fronts, from Rockhampton where the vast Fitzroy Basin system was in flood, and then when the flood moved South.
Being originally from the Gold Coast, I had an interest in the water supply.
When the Wivenhoe thing started to break, during the flood itself, from mid January, I ran a series of posts on Wivenhoe. The last of those three Posts was a huge one, detailing the capacity being held behind the monster dam itself, and with images showing those levels with explanatory notes about them on a day by day basis.
As that Post was in fact so large, (because it all had to be kept in the one place) I added three UPDATES at the bottom of the Post.
The last of those updates mentions the value of that water being held back as a resource for the Queensland Government and the (literally) billions of dollars that water was worth.
That value as income for the Government has not really been addressed in all of this, a (probable) reason to keep that dam so full.
For those of you who do want to have a look at that Post, it’s at the following link, and that last UPDATE at the bottom is well worth looking at, and keep in mind, this was all Posted at the time, not before, during or after the Commission.
Wivenhoe Dam Levels – The Critical Days

Hi Pat, a lot of people are still hurting up here. On Friday, my daughter found a small dog in the park next to Oxley Creek a few hundred metres down the street. Door knocked but no one owned or knew of the dog.
No collar so we chanced taking the dog to the vet to be scanned for a microchip. Sure enough, it had a chip so the owner was called to pick up the dog.
When the lady come over she recognised me as the person that organised the clean up of our street. We worked in teams to progressively muck out the properties as the water receded.
The lady and her family are doing it tough financially but as yet to receive anything from the flood relief fund that the people of Australia was so generous to donate to. Alan Jones and a few others are assisting in exposing Bligh for holding back the funds whilst people are going through hell.
We must of chatted for an hour about the state of the governments, the cronyism, the corruption and dishonesty. The lady is John Smeed’s daughter. John was one of the two that organised Chris Monckton’s first tour and a co-founder of the Galileo Movement…small world!

read it and weep:
30 Jan: RESILIENT PEOPLE, RESILIENT PLANET
A Future Worth Choosing
THE REPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERALāS HIGH-LEVEL PANEL ON GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY
13. That is why the Panel argues that the international community needs what some have called āa new political economyā for sustainable development. This means, for example:
radically improving the interface between environmental science and policy; recognizing that in certain environmental domains, such as climate change, there is āmarket failureā,
which requires both regulation and what the economists would recognize as the pricing of āenvironmental externalitiesā, while making explicit the economic, social and environmental
costs of action and inaction; recognizing the importance of innovation, new technologies, international cooperation and investments responding to these problems and generating
further prosperity…
14. The scale of investment, innovation, technological development and employment creation required for sustainable development and poverty eradication is beyond the range of the
public sector. The Panel therefore argues for using the power of the economy to forge inclusive and sustainable growth and create value beyond narrow concepts of wealth. Markets
and entrepreneurship will be a prime driver of decision-making and economic change…

I voted!
00
I had a look and I couldn’t find any blogs nominated along the lines of any of the following:
1) The “Tony Abbot said to the party faithful that climate change is absolute Crap – JuLiar said it again and again on the ABC, so it must be true” Blog
2) The ALP blog on “how to hide your decline by using your credit card in a brothel” Blog
3) The TWU backed “How to delay and obfuscate your FWA inquiry for 3 years so Union mates can stay in power” blog
4) The “Who will be the Labour Leader next week – the Faceless men speak” blog
5) The “The Greek economic crisis is because the rich don’t pay enough Tax” blog
6) The “I’m not a Liar, oh wait a minute, yes I am – the guide for the ALP fainatics” blog
So therein lies the question, Catamon, who on earth did you vote for?
00
Spot on MadJak and to add to (Who on Earth did you vote for)
Who did all the other trolls vote for,
Rhetorical really, The likes of Tristan, Jb ,Cataman, and their ignorance
just makes me sad , As I see that same ignorance around the World .
Cataman I cast my vote for Jo , and Wuwt
I find it gutless and ignorant for someone to say they voted .
who did you cast a vote for cataman?
voted is not in the Dictionary
00
I didn’t vote.
Seeing as though you seem interested in words:
A troll is someone who purposefully derails threads or evokes emotional reactions for their own entertainment.
A troll is not someone you dislike or someone whose opinion happens to be contrary.
00
No, a Troll is just a nuisance.
00
A troll is one who appears to participate while contributing nothing.
A wonderful trick.
00
I can see why plenty of people will be swarming JoNova temporarily over the next few days. I had a tendency to look at web sites I wouldn’t normally visit just so I could cast a vote in categories that wouldn’t normally interest me.
The Bloggies was particularly cruel to me today. It forced me to choose between xkcd OR ELSE Hyperbole And A Half as the most humorous blog of the year. Really, there should be enough CAAAAAAAAAAKE for everybody.
As for ACM, well I had to give the nod to Jo. ACM is more often an out-and-out opinion of Simon’s with copypasta and a link to the real information, whereas I think Jo takes more of a reporting approach. Of course everybody has their opinions and Jo of course has hers. She’s not afraid to tackle the science, whereas Simon (being a lawyer) finds the hypocrisy, economic waste, corruption, and fraud behind the scam to be more appealing. (It takes all sorts, etc). Jo’s posts are not written purely as opinion, as she seems to want to find contradiction and to report what has happened without resorting to copypasta, which indicates she’s read, understood, digested, filtered, cross-referenced, analysed, and summarised the issue in her own words. It is a more convincing display of understanding the nub of the scam, which is ultimately scientific. ACM certainly has value for expressing in no uncertain terms the madness of the CAGW scam. JoNova often relies on public comments to provide the personal values and the reaction, which is the way I think this issue should be handled. At least, that’s why I voted the way I did. YMMMV.
Well now Jo’s nomination is bringing the customers in the door at breakneck speed. Best behaviour everybody! We want repeat business. I might even have to put on pants when I make comments from now on! š TOO MUCH INFORMATION?
Even some robust B-grade scientific debate would be good enough for reader retention compared to the MSM or the propagandists over at SkS.
I wonder if there is any difference between the Popular Posts list and a Best Of JoNova list? What’s been the creme de la creme here?
00
Shucks Andrew, thanks. There is no praise like that of someone who notices the small details. š I’m smiling.
Yes, there is a difference between popular posts and my best of list. The popular posts is pure comment numbers, and is driven more by the topic and the timing, though does give some indication of traffic. My favourites are more the ones I personally felt more proud of. Really we need a “popular by traffic” list – and the one that wins that was the postage stamp satire, which also took out most commented for a couple of years. Someone put it on Stumbleupon which generated 55000 hits in a spike. Phenomenal power of social networking. Thanks to all those who hit those pointless looking social buttons at the bottom of a post.
Hmmm, thanks, you’ve given me a good idea for a post. Jo
00
Jo, if you were the first to notice the wonderful postage stamp correlation, well congratulations, you were cited by Burt Rutan in July 2009. And then he went on to show a page from Monckton in his talk.
Okay am having a bit of a “Greats of climate skepticism united” overload moment here.
As for the “good idea”, well whatever it was you’re very welcome. Thanks, it was… nothing??? I shall remain patiently mystified until said post appears fully formed and inflates its wings ready for flight on the intertubes.
00
I have 2 e-mail addresses….and i’ll give you a hint….2 votes came your way all the way from Canada…hit your site daily! Thanks and keep up the fight.
00
If you use the same computer or Web service with the same ip address, the Web site operators will know, and one or both of your votes will be canceled. Why cheat?
Jo can easily win fair and square, and should. Cheating sucks. In Florida during the infamous Bush Vs. Gore nightmare, thousands of New Yorkers (here for the winter) who had already voted for Gore by absentee ballot, voted for him again at the polling booths. The authorities did nothing, though the double-voters should have been dragged to federal prison. Had all the double and fraudulent votes been discounted, Bush would have won by a huge margin. And I say that as someone who voted for crazy Ralph Nader.
00
Oh…
I forgot about them. Used to live in Florida many years back and I do remember all the New Yorkers that would come down for the winters then leave once things warmed up. Never once considered that sort of duplicity taking place in elections though it doesn’t surprise me.
Going to be interesting to see what kind of mess, fraud, and other questionable acts take place this fall for the 2012 election. I think it is pretty safe to say that there will be a lot of it.
00
Congratulations, Jo … you have my vote but I also like Australian Climate Madness … not so much as JoNova though.
No sign of that ‘Skeptical Science’ site so it can’t be much good after all despite the $ leg up from our illegitimate government.
00
Congrats from here too. Well done, goes to show the way of the people.
00
Vote 1 Jo!
00
Just like on election day, I voted twice! š
It is a shame I had to pick between ACM and Jo but I did have to give my vote to Jo.
00
Voted for you ,Anthony and Tallbloke, Jo. Good luck!
00
It is a shame for ACM , being up against JoNova’ though to be fair I’d never heard of him (well not consciously anyway) so it has given him the exposure. Maybe next year , when JoNova is nominated up there where she belongs in the other categories, or they have a new one for Logic & Reasoning. Those things are all about popularity though, and while it’s nice to be popular it’s more important to be right, while being nice about it, because as we know popularity is like a vehicle, that can propel ideas, right ideas as well as the other sort.
Its nice to see the right ideas become fashionable, for a while.
00
I voted.
Glad to see American Thinker make the list.
Cheers.
00
My vote went to Jo. There simply is nothing better than joannenova.com.au anywhere.
00
Well done Jo.
Meanwhile in England Huhne Hangs up by the Constables….
http://fenbeagleblog.wordpress.com/2012/02/04/hanging-up-by-the-constables/
00
He’ll be back, with a nice position in the EU perhaps, where many failed politicians end up, when they become no longer electable.
00
Interestingly, it seems that you can vote early and often at this poll, even using the same email!
00
While web voting is not a democracy, It says that doing so will only negate your earlier attempts.
00
Yes.
The first time I voted I wasn’t sure of the system.
Later I went back with the advice given above and was able to record a real vote..
It said that previous votes would be erased.
00
Jo
The only thing preventing me for voting for you is that I already have!
00
I also slung a vote your way Jo, and it’s not just because I think you’re cute. I don’t comment usually, but read your blog every day. Excellent work, and I hope you win.
00
Noticed this quote in the Australian article on the European Freeze.
“Among the cold-weather deaths in Italy was 46-year-old woman who died in Avellino, near Naples in southern Italy, after a greenhouse roof laden with snow collapsed on her.”
I wondered what to make of it!
00
It’s being caused by solar winds from a coronal hole facing Earth on the Sun apparently.
00
What to make of it? Well, here in Perth we allegedly have a Mediterranean climate. Naples is on the Med. (I know. I’ve been there. By ship.)
If one the Mediterranean climate of Naples were similar to Perth’s, one could become quite worried about the collapse of infrastructure around Perth under just a few centimetres of snow. Just about everything would stop working. Roads, rail, electricity and water … even telecommunications. Health services would become quickly inundated with treating injuries of a million people unaccustomed to walking/riding/driving on frozen ground and an increase in cold-related ailments. Hundreds of homeless will be at high risk of freezing to death.
That’s global warming for you.
00
I appolgise for the smiling graphic next to my comment – I assure you I dont see anything funny in it at all. Just sad irony.
00
I see Deltoid didn’t make the cut.
I suppose there is no award for best voodoo science blog.
00
Anyone notice this nice piece on the Brisbane floods by Joe D’Aleo in ICECAP and here
By the way, good luck with the votes
00
All the best Jo. Just voted for you, plus Watts, Tall bloke, McIntyre and American Thinker.
Hope you all win.

Congratulations Jo. Your blog has given so many people a “voice” and you add the extra personal touch so much appreciated by older people like me. I thank you for allowing my occasional “hijacking” of a thread and helping me liaise with those who can and have continued to help me. Your blog proves no one is ever to old to learn. It was a privilege to record my vote for you.

Jo,
I think you should win for one simple reason: you deserve to.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your selfless dedication and your many personal sacrifices in order to fight the greatest and most massive fraud ever perpetrated upon this planet and it’s people.

Can I second your comment Eddy.
The thing about this site is the instant post and the retro moderation.
It allows the free flow of comment, facilitates dialogue and gives similarly speedy feedback
on whether you have added to the discussion of just gotten in the way.
I have learned so much about the “Climate Game” here: other contributors have broadened my
understanding of “The Science” the politics, the fraud, the money, Environmentalism (now a
dirty word) and most importantly the lack of accountability of Australian Politicians.
This last is most recently illustrated by the Wivenhoe dam business.
The solution politicians use is to lift their gaze, and media output, to focus on the poor
people in Upper Bla Bla land where millions are dying of hunger.
What then happens locally just disappears from view.
Apparently “Scaper” is in the midst of this mess and all levels of Government should hang
their heads in shame that anybody damaged by the Wivenhoe episode is facing any loss at
all, let alone having to clean up tons of mud or suffer the anxiety of fighting insurance claims.
This was a Government Designed Catastrophe. Queensland Government turned the Wivenhoe from
a Flood Mitigation dam to a Water Storage facility.

Just to illustrate the kind of self-righteous, but unscrupulous people Jo’ blog is here to expose::

This is totally off topic but I hope will strike a chord in your heart
For all justice loving Australians Piers Ackerman had an article yesterday about the long running Heiner affair
http://blogs.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/piersakerman/index.php/dailytelegraph/comments/senators_receive_heiner_allegations/P20/
A bit of cut and paste
Meticulously prepared allegations of the most serious misconduct by some of the nationās most senior public officers, including the Governor General Quentin Bryce, the Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, and a raft of Queensland jurists have been received by every member of the Senate.
The allegations were contained in the Rofe Audit of the long-running Heiner Affair and e-mailed to every Senator on Australia Day.
Please take the time to read and e mail your Senator asking what he/she intends to do
For more background hereās the heiner affair website http://www.heineraffair.info/

Thanks for reminding us of this.
They have apparently gotten away with it but if they go Unexamined we all lose and all
politicians in government will just get bolder.
There is no real difference between this and the AGW scam: Government behaving badly.

KK this is Australia’s Watergate but there’s a difference …. in Australia scrutiny has been avoided (at least so far)
does that mean Aussies are apathetic about justice … don’t know

incredible:
5 Feb: SMH: AAP: Qld dam diary too time consuming: engineer
(Engineer, Terry Malone): Mr Malone said no run sheets detailing the exact time water-release strategies were activated last January were kept…
“It gets very messy if you write down `we are in W3, but my primary objectives have been met, therefore I will look at bridges’.
“We just don’t do that. It’s just too time consuming.”…
In another twist, Mr Malone admitted joking about signing his house over to his wife if a peer review of a dam operation report was bad.
Mr Malone’s email exchange was with colleague John Tibaldi, who took the stand on day one, after he had informed him of “good news” about a peer review.
“Thanks for the advice as I was just about to sign the house over to my wife’s name,” Mr Malone wrote in the email the inquiry heard.
He said the email reply was in jest as he had no concerns about the report being anything but favourable…

sorry another totally off topic – copy e mail just received from Menzies House
I have just discovered something terrifying: a George Soros funded far-left American lobby group has secretly launched a big-money campaign to stifle free speech and silence climate realists in Australia.
I URGENTLY need your help to help save free speech and a fair media in Australia.
By taking 5 minutes you can help stop this vile plan.
You may have read recently that Gina Rinehart, a prominent climate realist and vocal opponent of the unnecessary and destructive tax on carbon dioxide, recently acquired apx. 13% of Fairfax Media (owners of the left wing climate-alarmist Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and other publications).
This would not normally make news – a business person buying shares in a company is hardly noteworthy. And Ms. Rinehart has specifically stated ā on the record ā that this is simply a business investment, and her climate realism will not affect their operation.
But I have just learned that because of Gina Rinehartās beliefs, an underhand, international, coordinated campaign by left wing extremists has just been launched to assault freedom of speech, calling on the government to change the law to stop her from getting the seat on the Fairfax Board to which she is entitled, and trying to threaten the Fairfax Chairman into vetoing her.
Some background: Avaaz, an unethical āshadowy foreign organisationā funded by radical leftist mogul George Soros is one of the big-money donors to Climate Alarmism in Australia.
They are āpartnersā with GetUp!, and together they have just launched a full scale campaign to attack Ms Rinehart and intimidate the Fairfax Chairman to prevent her from joining the Board. But this is just stage one of their plan – if they are successful, they specifically have said that they call on the government to impose an ideological test on the media in Australia. Which is why we need to act fast.
This is a campaign that should strike terror into the hearts of all of us who believe in free speech, a free media, and the Australian way. If they get their way, none of us are safe.
This is their plan to censor free speech ā in their own words:
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has just bought a major stake in Fairfax media — in a bid that could turn The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald into mouthpieces for climate denial to protect her mining interests. But together we can foil her planā¦
The media inquiry that Avaaz members helped win is just weeks away from reporting, and provides the government with the crucial chance to act. Communications Minister Stephen Conroy is supportive of stronger ownership limits — but he needs a community outcry to get the whole government on boardā¦
We desperately need stronger ownership limits, a ‘fit and proper person’ test for use of public airwaves, and a strong and independent media regulator.
Thatās right: they are unashamedly calling on the Government to impose a āfit and properā ā ie leftist ideological ā censorship test on the media. Even though Ms. Rinehart has pledged to not let her views influence editorial policy. The fact that she is a climate realist means that she must be stopped and her rights curtailed.
GetUp! followed up with an email to their members saying this is ābad news for the issues we care aboutā urging them to take action to silence free speech by climate realists.
But thatās not all. Crikey, a powerful Australian left wing online group, has published no less than eight hit-pieces of Ms Rinehart in the last two days, and even the Sydney Morning Herald put up an utterly disgraceful, sexist cartoon attacking Ms Rinehart two days ago.
I can not stress this enough: this attack on free speech is incredibly serious, and goes against everything we believe in as Australians. If they win against Ms Rinehart, then soon we will all be censored.
This is a co-ordinated campaign by radical left alarmists who are running scared that the Australian people have woken up to their game, and are getting so desperate they are now trying to use the government to suppress anyone who disagrees with them.
We need to take action now ā before it is too late: We need to let Fairfax Chairman Roger Corbett know that he CAN NOT give in to extremists, and can not veto Ms. Rinehart from the board because of radical left wing pressure.
val majkus, can you immediately email Fairfax Chairman Roger Corbett on mhughessmith@rccorbett.com.au and phone his office on (02) 9282 2833 and tell him to resist left-wing threats and blackmail, and not veto Ms. Rinehart from the position to which she is entitled.
I will be honest. I donāt know Gina Rinehart. I have never met her, I have never spoken to her, I have never emailed her. I honestly donāt know much about her. But one thing I do know: that Australia needs a free and fair media, and if the radical alarmist left want to use the government to suppress free speech, then we need to do something about it. This isn’t about Gina Rinehart. It’s about principle. Because first itās Gina, and then itās Andrew Bolt, and then itās anyone else who doesnāt tow the government line.
Make No Mistake: If we let them get away with censoring Gina Rinehart, then all climate realists are in danger. And we will have no way to get the truth out to the Australian people.
val majkus, please ā I beg you – take the five minutes to email Fairfax Chairman Roger Corbett on mhughessmith@rccorbett.com.auand phone him through (02) 9282 2833 and tell him to NOT GIVE IN to million dollar left wing intimidation.
This is a battle we can not afford to lose. If Ms. Rinehart is vetoed from her rightful Board position because of her climate realism, then all Australians will suffer.
You have done a lot to combat the lies of the climate alarmists so far, and I am sorry for asking you to send yet another email, but freedom of speech in Australia depends upon this.
Please contact Roger Corbett and make our message heard, and make sure you forward this email to all your friends, and share it on facebook by clicking here: , and on twitter here: .
I know I can count on you to do the right thing.

renewable technology Gillard style
http://www.afr.com/p/national/solar_deals_face_crunch_jgaTtvTi7k5GlaJsZn3YSK
The future of two of the Gillard Āgovernmentās big-ticket renewable energy projects is under a cloud after they missed their December deadline for finding a financial backer and may now lose more than $750 million in federal funding.
Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson will make a decision within weeks on whether to extend the deadline to obtain finance for the Moree Solar Farm in NSW and Solar Dawn project in Queensland, or Āreopen the tender process under the $1.5ābillion Solar Flagships Āprogram.
The troubled projects are another blow for the federal governmentās green credentials. Amid rising leadership tension in the Labor caucus, they are also a reminder of the failed green grant schemes such as home insulation, green loans and household solar programs championed by former prime minister Kevin Rudd.
An oversupply of renewable energy certificates created by the household solar scheme has been a main factor contributing to the Ādifficulties facing the Solar Flagships projects, with energy retailers already easily able to meet their Āobligations under the Renewable Energy Target.

She moved, stealthy, crossing patches unseen, one determination, one enough
A dagger of gold, a pen of wit, nothing did not she question, everything to be known
Blithely engorged on feats of slather, they grew rump, their song and dance she purloined, for her nest
On a night when the fire burned high, she took her swill, with power and might of will, the dagger did she plunge
Not one of them could defend, not one of them could survive
The truth she held up high, the crown upon her head
They of ill repute, will forever fear
