I wrote yesterday about the unprecedented way the UN was locking out anyone at Rio that was not part of an official government delegation. More than ever before, the UN is not even pretending to to serve the people of the world. Even the facade is gone. The rules have changed since Monckton, Watts Up and the internet spoiled the party at Durban.
All the heroic NGO’s have been blocked from the negotiations (as well as those evil free market libertarians). They are only there for the theatrics. The real action goes on behind closed doors, in what Monckton calls a “concrete bunker”.

The global coming together is not united. It’s separate conferences for the VIP’s and the riff-raff now. There’s a tent city darkly called “The People’s Congress” — which used to be near the main plenary sessions hall, but has been moved miles away. (Who needs “The People?”).

The journalists are allowed in apparently, possibly because there is no danger of them reporting what is actually going on. (After all, environmental journalists are on a good junket too.)
So why the obsessive secrecy? Why are the national negotiators kept away from the non-government organizations that have always had access to them until now? Why are the updated negotiating texts not made available? One reason stands out. The UN knows perfectly well that if the people knew what was being inserted into the generally anodyne negotiating text they would not stand for it.
An example. Last year, at the Durban climate conference, I obtained a copy of the negotiating text, summarized it, and posted up the summary at WattsUpWithThat. A couple of days later WordPress, which hosts half a million blog postings every day, got in touch to say that that posting had attracted more hits than any other that day. Why were people so interested? Because not one of the thousands of journalists in Durban had bothered to report what was actually in the negotiating text.
My report revealed that the climate conference was proposing to grant Mother Earth the right to sue any Western nation in a new International Climate Court, and to cut CO2 concentration by half, extinguishing most plant and animal species on Earth. The disastrous publicity arising from these revelations led the UN to abandon fully half of the Durban negotiating text within 24 hours of my revealing its contents.
The UN was determined not to suffer this humiliation again. So it has ensured that the pre-conference draft contains so little of interest that even Greenpeace has condemned the UN for not going far enough. Instead, all the really damaging material has been kept secret. No doubt it will be inserted into the text during the negotiations. It will then be presented as a fait accompli after the usual all-night session, and the world’s media will dutifully congratulate the negotiators on a job well done.
A senior UN official to whom I spoke said that the organization had now become so corrupt that a number of sexual and financial scandals had occurred at the headquarters building in New York. The UN, he said, was hushing them up by not reporting them to the police authorities in New York as protocol demanded. He said that the revelation of the contents of the updated Durban negotiating texts had led to a major rethink within the UN, which had decided to set up the elaborate pantomime that I have described, preventing any but a carefully-selected few from getting alongside the negotiators.
“Transparency?” he snorted. “Not under Ban Ki-Moon. Everything is now hidden – and the UN has a great deal to hide. But don’t quote my name – these people are vindictive.”
As I said at a press conference here, the UN has outlived its usefulness and should now be brought to an end. Everything it does could be better done, at far less political and financial cost, by individual nations cutting out the predatory UN middlemen.
The UN has had its day. Time to abolish it, in an act symbolic of the freedom and democracy that we, the people, intend to keep for ourselves whether the dictators-in-waiting and their fawning lickspittles in the mainstream news media like it or not.

Not quite. The ‘important’ NGOs (WWF Greenpeace) are still in the thick of it. Their negotiators represent many of the smaller nations such as Maldives, Tuvalu etc.

Charlie, good point. Let’s fine tune that statement. If it’s private information then the default position is that it’s private. We’re not hiding something. It was never someone elses’ information to see.
But if it’s taxpayer funded then it’s public information. The default is transparency. We paid those people to go there. They are making deals about our money, our rights, and our blood sweat and tears. In environmental negotiations (not national security) there is no reason to hide it unless you want to deceive someone.

Perhaps those with connections could organize a UN-reform week. That would entail a full telling of the UN from start to present, and future Most people don’t know how insidious it is. There is more than enough in the US that want to get rid of it (including me), but I believe to get a ‘concensus’ the attempt should be of reform and chopping the legs off. It’s easier to say “we should keep the UN in order to better intimate diplomacy, including resolving disputes; but we need to get rid of the scumbags, criminals, and inefficiency”.
With our elections in 4 and half months, this would be something for ‘sustainable’ momentum. That movie U.N. Me just came out or soon will, the info from this farcical meeting soon to follow, and I’m certain more missteps, all would provide more of a baseline. The entertainment (news) media in the US loves a good embezzlement case, or crime (especially sexual, right DSK?), combined with the level of officials involved. Plus it will lead to further stories of power and/or corruption, it becomes perpetual and they’ll have stories for months. Obama sycophants and the White House will like it as it takes the focus off them. It’s perfect.

The Agenda 21 piece prompted me to do some research on it, ICLEI and Jeb Brugmann. ICLEI is the really scary part of all this. This guy has been pushing a (surreptitious socialist) agenda at the city level since the 80s, the UNers hooked up with him around 90. Through ICLEI, he is quietly and cleverly implementing the goals of Agenda 21 at the municipal level all around the world, what he call “The Global City”, thousands upon thousands of cities. Most of the cities here in California, certainly. Here in San Diego, I looked up just one powerpoint presentation given by the city manager regarding the planning process in anticipation of rising sea level on various city functions/locations. It included projections, of course, over the next 50 and 100 years. The whole thing was produced by ICLEI!! It has its tentacles reaching throughout the “global city” bureaucracies. I urge folks around the world to to find out what is going on in this regard in your locale, investigate, get involved in the process and let your voice be heard on the matter. Maybe it’s too late. But with the current CAGW disarray, perhaps now is the ideal time to begin the pushback.

I’m in the middle of nsw and connect through a two-way satellite (bigpond) and using windows 7 and I can’t now pick up your site using my normal browsing habits. However, if I use a VPN (hide my ass – free), like I am now, then I can view your site.
I also have wireless broad-band (through – bigpond 7.2 gateway) connected and it has no problems with your site using normal browsing habits and using the same windows 7 platform.
The question is: why is the two-way satellite (normal browsing) blocked, yet using a VPN the two-way satellite lets me through ?????????????????????

Marc Morano says that “Australians should be rebelling in the streets”. In my travels around the railway tracks I have noticed railway holding yards built like prisons. The fences are razor wired, internally there are multiple speakers,camera’s and lights. Somewhere in the not so distant past, here on this site if memory serves, this idea was briefly discussed. The idea being that various entities, organizations or “processes” if you like, have served their purpose and now continue to exist only to sustain themselves.
Not remembering who it was who stated it I think their comment was along the lines of “any organization that is created to solve a problem begins immediately shifting their focus from that of the problem to that of their survival” or something along those lines.
Many here in the US contend that the EPA had long since served its purpose in that many of the problems it was created to address have been addressed. Now we are left with a large government entity with all of the hungry mouths it feeds, i.e. the employees, needing to continually “discover” new problems to justify the continued taxpayer funded feeding of those hungry mouths.
Why would one expect the UN to be any different? While you may call it a process another may call it an organization and still another may refer to the UN as an entity, regardless of the label we place upon it the core issue is that of whether or not it still serves any purpose. As long as their is money and power to be had those who are a part of the UN, or who seek to be for that money and/or power, will fight for its continued existence. The form of that fight, as one would expect, will be the continued “discovery” of problems for which it finds itself as the “most suited” to solve.
Whether or not those problems are real in the scope of their goals is irrelevant, what matters is that they can convince the world those problems are real and that the world needs them to address those problems.
That is the “advertised” goal. The real goal is and has been for decades, maintaining their own existence, maintaining the funding, and retaining any powers they currently have while expanding those powers wherever possible.
One could easily argue that the UN’s goal of “sustainable development” really addresses their desire to sustain their own growth and development. A goal that is more easily accomplished if independent nations are subjugated to the UN’s desires with the further development of those nations being hindered if not completely halted by the UN.

You make a very valid point. Only none governmental entities could pull off this trick of surviving long past their ‘use by’ date. Any business trying the same trick would fail instantly. The access to money without the responsibility to really produce for its gain is the root of the problem.
Also I suspect there is a form of mutual ‘problem generation’ going on, nothing better to preserve financial existence than a problem which is global, caused by everybody and requires money from everybody to make it go away – or at least cause the problem to mutate into another global problem which everybody has caused – and on goes the money go round…

The nice thing, and it’s an admission of sorts, is that Rio+20 is so irrelevant, the politicians haven’t even bother to turn up. They’ve just sent some apparatchiks instead.
Politically, sending delegates is very useful. For instance, Bush Snr sent delegates to Kyoto with, I suspect, instructions to accept any proposals, no matter how ludicrous, which they did. The more ludicrous, the better. Everyone at Kyoto was happy at America signing up.
3 months later, ratification was refused by congress on a vote of 92 to 3, from memory. Everyone in congress was happy.

I’m flabbergasted that it’s taken this long for public statements about UN corruption to show up here. Wasn’t it obvious? News of aid workers going to Africa to help people but raping the children instead was enough for me. The fact that there is no way to hold the UN accountable for its actions is enough for me. The fact that they put North Korea in as head of their so called “human rights” operation is enough for me. They have infiltrated our governments. How much more do we need?
They are an out of control criminal enterprise bent on taking over the world by subversion, by literally ruining whole economies and starving people to death. The evidence points to exactly this conclusion. And while at it they want to enrich themselves with the spoils of their war against us (war is not too strong a term).
Why can’t we acknowledge that there isn’t a thing worth saving about the UN? They’re trying to enslave us. We have to find ways to bite them back – and bite hard.

So it appears that the united NATIONS thinks that Non-Governmental-Organizations (like the UN, Greenpeace, WWF, Tides, etc) are important to Global Governance. Your vote is unimportant, only your donations to ‘Charity’ and funding of the ‘United NATIONS’.
People, you should read the UN Agenda 21 plan, it is quite an eye-opener. They really want and they really believe the UN and the NGOs should have domain over national elected governments. Read it for yourself.

A one-world government, like that described in the UN’s Agenda 21 [1], might be acceptable, if that government were controlled by the people.
Perhaps that was the original intent, . . . to protect world leaders and society from possible destruction by “nuclear fires.”
But society has advanced since 1945 toward a government that distorts information to control people, like the one George Orwell described in a novel written in 1948 and entitled “1984″ [2].
