Having shown in my earlier notes to Weekend Unthreaded that seasonal temperature changes cause biogenic CO2 to go in the reverse direction to the temperature and that annual increments in CO2 concentration show no significant statistical correlation to the annual increments in temperature, we now get to the crux of the matter. Regression analysis has also revealed that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the annual increment in CO2 and the average temperature for the corresponding 12 month interval.

At Mauna Loa, Hawaii [1], this correlation coefficient was 0.69 with negligible probability that the correlation is zero. Other examples of the correlation between the annual average temperature (derived from satellite lower tropospheric temperature measurement [2] unless otherwise stated) and the annual increment in CO2 are:
Alert, N. Canada [3], ground station, 0.16 , with probability of zero correlation of 1%,
Barrow, Alaska, ground station [4], 0.54 , with probability of zero correlation of 0.2%,
Izańz (Tenerife, Canary Islands) [5], 0.54, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
Cape Kumukahi [6], 0.67, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
Guam [7], 0.46, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
NOAA/ESRA Pacific Ocean (00N) platform [8], 0.62, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
Ascension Island [9], 0.54, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
Cape Grim [10], 0.64, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
Macquarie Island [11], 0.73, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero,
South Pole [12], 0.22, with negligible probability that the coefficient was zero.

Clearly the temperature level drives the rate of change in CO2 concentration. The polar regions, having the lowest temperatures, exhibit the least correlation. It is important to realise that the reverse causation is illogical. It would mean that a given rate of increase of CO2 concentration would determine the atmospheric temperature level regardless of the base for the CO2 increase. For example, if a rate of 2 ppm per annum was assigned to a temperature of, say, 20 deg C, this temperature would apply regardless of whether or not the CO2 change was from zero to 2 ppm in one year, 873 ppm to 875 ppm of CO2 in a given year or any other base level.

It explains why CO2 concentration lags temperature on a geological time scale as has been reported repeatedly in the scientific literature, for example [13]. The rate of increase in CO2 does not fall to zero until the temperature has reached a critical low point, that is, the CO2 concentration continues to rise while the temperature is falling but at an ever-decreasing rate.

It also explains why the CO2 concentration has been continually increasing for the past 58 years of recording at the Mauna Loa Observatory but the rate of increase in CO2 concentration has now reached a plateau [14]. In the first 5 years of recording at Mauna Loa, the CO2 concentration was rising at a rate of 0.7 ppm per annum. This rate has continually increased to reach a plateau of almost 2.1 ppm per annum for the most recent 15 years. The IPCC now have to explain coincident plateaus in each of two variables, namely temperature and rate of increase in CO2 concentration which is completely contrary to their global warming thesis.

This insight tells us the reason why climate model simulations do not produce results that are of any use in reality – they are formulated on false premises.

To conclude, the natural rise in temperature since the Little Ice Age has caused the increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration probably through greater biological activity since then, regardless of mankind. This is perfectly feasible as it is the original cause of there being CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere. The primitive atmosphere had neither CO2 nor oxygen. Evolution resulted in the earliest micro-organisms generating CO2 as can still be seen at Lake Preston and Shark Bay in WA where bubbles of CO2 are continuously rising from stromatalites in the shallow lakes. These are the modern equivalent of the oldest life form to be seen in the fossil record.

The CO2 in the atmosphere lead to the evolution of plants that absorbed CO2 and emitted oxygen via photosynthesis. This lead to the evolution of animals, of which we are part.

It is proposed that life, in having evolved over the past 3.5 billion years, is highly attuned to the cycles of the Sun, which we record as temperature and precipitation. These two factors are essential for life, most of which is carbon based so it is no surprise that it generates CO2 at a rate commensurate with the Sun’s cycles. It is the Sun that controls the concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere as well as its temperature. There is no detectable warming due to CO2.

Once again it is important to stress that this conclusion has been reached by the mathematical synthesis of actual real-world data and not from any estimates, conjectures, theory or computer modeling. It reflects what has actually happened in the world while climate scientists have been imagining other things and ignoring the true relationship between temperature and CO2. To fail to study the CO2 in relation to temperature for the 373 locations on the World Data Centre for Greenhouse Gases would appear to be deliberate as it would have compromised their Great Global Warming Fraud.

      Thanks Bevan,

Very comprehensive and well prepared. You should reference your earlier posts.

Can you give a reference for this?

The primitive atmosphere had neither CO2 nor oxygen

I thought that the early atmosphere was supposed to have lots of CO2 bit very little O2.

Peter C, may I suggest that you work through the references that you get from an Internet search. In making my statement I am looking for an origin for the current annual increase in CO2 to account for the statistical result that the rate of increase in CO2 correlates with the temperature level. We know that the mould grows faster in the shower recess in Summer relative to Winter and there are apparently many other forms such as yeast that produce CO2. Any suggestions from biologists as to a likely source most welcome.
It would appear that my statement about stromatalites is wrong as some references say that they give off oxygen.
The important point is that CO2 does not cause any detectable increase in atmospheric temperature so we can give up the false notion of global warming and get rid of the IPCC, if not the UN, for decades of false and misleading statements.

          OK.

So the prehistoric atmosphere may have been rich in CO2 (like Venus and Mars), Stomatolites (cyanobacteria) and other life forms in the carboniferiferous epoch turned CO2 into O2 which is now 20% of our atmosphere,

As we all know, there will shortly be a meeting of Paris-ites, where the countries of the Western World may be stupid and gullible enough to sign up to a treaty designed to hobble their economies and enrich Third World leaders in the name of solving a non-problem.

I was becoming very concerned that the expected spike up of 0.5-1.0 degrees C in global temperature, which should coincide with the current super El Niño, would occur during or before the Paris-ite meeting, thereby adding to its general hysteria.

Hopefully, we shall see a repeat of the 1997/98 El Niño experience, where temperatures spiked up in early 1998. So I confidently forecast that in early 2016, we shall see much shrieking of “the warmest months evuh!” from the likes of the BOM, GISS, CRU etc, while conveniently forgetting to mention the El Niño effect.

Of course, if there is no spike up in temperature early next year, this could signal the start of a period of global cooling, a thought representing grand heresy among the Paris-ites, anyhow we shall have to wait and see.

Even though they are predicting a strong El Nino I’m not convinced that there will be a spike in temperatures, mainly because of a negative NAO causing havoc.

‘Winter is coming, and it could be colder and snowier than normal after forecasters predicted that this year’s El Nino weather phenomenon could be the strongest since 1950.

‘Met Office meteorologists said conditions could mirror those of the 2009/2010 winter which was so long and chilly it was dubbed ‘The Big Freeze.’

The Met is trying to develop a strong connection between El Nino and freezing conditions in Europe, I can’t really see it.

My argument is that there is no connection between El Nino and a freezing European winter and the suggestion by the Met is a hoax.

Throughout the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2009-10 the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Arctic Oscillation (AO) were both negative.

This is the NAO at the moment and I predict a freezing European winter.

Only a few years before the 1997-98 El Nino the NAO began turning negative in winter, but it was close to average or slightly negative at the time of that super spike in temperatures.

What “super El Nino” As far as I can see the El Niño has gone walkabout for probably the 4th/5th year in a row.

Funny how the bits of climate/weather occurrences are given some romantic name in order to gain acceptance as something friendly we can all get familiar with!!!

The real reason for it all is illustrated here:-

      http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/021015-738779-climate-change-scare-tool-to-destroy-capitalism.htm

While all & sundry are debating & counter arguing the warmists/socialists are quite happy as the real objectives are slipping by unnoticed.

We all need to wake and redirect the argument to the real reasons and get the media to bring the real debate to the publics norice. [fat chance of the media doing that!!]

Climate has been usually described as a combination of various elements within a particular geographic zone – for instance – http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/climate_zones/map_1.shtml and http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/climate_zones/map_2.shtml
Do climate crisis fetishists reckon these have changed? If so, please submit the new zonal descriptions for BOM’s approval. They’re sure to be pleased to recieve advice of the small changes to the wiggly outlines of the coloured patches.

Climate isn’t just a small shift in a numerical fraction of temperature.

    WORDS FOR THE WEEK

Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

1John 2:1 we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Rom. 8:34 It is Christ that died , yea rather *, that is risen again , who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Heb. 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Heb. 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance

Heb. 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

    1Tim.2:5-6 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all

Here in Europe, the Volkswagen nitrogen oxide emissions saga has made quite an impact.
I’m going to ‘bar talk’ now, so here goes:
I worked for a short time as a writer for a motoring magazine, and in the process met a senior member of Toyota’s management at a show. The issue of CO2 came up, and I asked why the motor industry didn’t do its own research and challenge the government edicts on it – after all, motor engineers are numerate, highly qualified people. He shrugged, and said ‘Well, we just have to do what we’re told’.
I was amazed at this supine attitude.
Could it be that Volkswagen knew very well that the emission levels of nitrogen oxides couldn’t be met in normal use given the engine requirements and current technology, and so came up with a way to ensure that the results were as required at a testing station? In other words, gave the politicians exactly what they asked for?
Maybe Volkswagen should have shown a bit of courage and made it clear that the demands couldn’t be met in the first place (if my speculation is correct).
Interestingly, nowhere have I seen a discussion of the actual levels of nitrogen oxides in question, and what difference (if any) it might actually make compared with what was considered acceptable previously.
I’m not an engineer – so – your opinions please!

      C500,

If VW goes under that will really be the straw that breaks not only Germany, but probably Europe, coming on top of the influx of the new economic migrants.

I predict there wont be any small change remaining to finance the luxury technology of an uneconomical and inefficient ideology.

The actual peak level of “concern” (“40 times more than allowed”) seems to be about 2 grams of NOx per kilometre; as a brief pulse under certain conditions. The limits for emissions appear to have have been set arbitrarily; finding a technical analysis relating motor vehicle emissions to public health is not easy; most analyses are poorly constructed and tend to be data trawls setting out to prove particular effects; statistical confidence levels of significant risk tend therefore to be too low to justify action.

It’s obviously technically possible to meet the emissions levels as they do so during cycle testing, but VW may have been conserving fuel and reduction agent (urea solution injected ahead of the NOx catalyst) to improve the fuel consumption and operating costs in practice.

I’ve not yet read about anybody confirming the test-cycle switch in practice. If it’s done, as reported by some by determining that the steering angle hasn’t changed, then connecting a “dummy” steering angle input signal to a car on a test stand and driving it around corners would be sufficient to prevent that avenue of circumvention.

OTOH, if they also use accelerometer signals in the vehicle to determine actual vehicle motion, then plugging in dummy “accelerometers” is out of the question as the ones installed are used for safety-critical systems such as ABS braking and skid control. The whole test stand would have to be mounted on a tiltable platform moved by hydraulic jacks; similar to that used to provide “feel” for aircraft pilot training in simulators.

But why regulate something just because one thinks that one can measure such tiny amounts in a representative manner? Look at the e.g. Euro-5 driving test cycle and think how applicable it is to the way that you use your car.

I know Obama’s EPA climate police increased legislation on the internal combustion engine has left many engineers scratching their heads at what direction to take for compliance as eventually the demands will overcome the physical realities of the metal fired air pumps.

They even fined Tesla in 2010 for a bureaucratic error, clearly there are no favourites in the NWO business world.

      Carbon 501
I have heard the VW matter thus:
The computer control program is quite complex with math and stats feeding corrections back to the fuel, air,etc.flow. there are many states of engine activity, like accelerating, constant speed, hill climb, high altitude etc. Stationary is one of these. The pollution tests are done in stationary mode.
If a vehicle in operation (not test mode) becomes stationary and other external factors like temp, pressure are the same as for test, the emission system will return results like those of test.
The agreed requirement is merely to meet emissions at the stipulated test conditions, not in normal travel.
Is that clear enough for an explanation?
      Geoff

The EPA test is done on a vehicle Dynamometer (or Dyno for the gear heads) there’s an EPA picture of the test in this link explaining the test and VW’s heinous indiscretions of the Borg.

The in-service, periodic emissions tests in the Germany were to transition to being entirely via OBD (on-board diagnostics interface) that allows service agents and others to interrogate the state of electronic components in the vehicle; i.e. they were going to believe what the engine management system reported. I pointed out the foolishness of that 15 years ago.

The full standards, type-compliance test cycle (Australia) requires the car to be on a rolling road in an airconditioned test cell for half an hour. (An outline of type-compliance for e.g. Australia) Type-compliance testing is done by manufacturers under supervision by authorities or directly by type-certification authorities.

Once a vehicle type has been certified, vehicles are deemed to comply unless modified or if components become unserviceable.

This opinion piece puts the whole VW “scandal” into perspective.

Internal combustion is always going to produce some emissions. The engineers have picked the low hanging (and mid-hanging) fruit. But the EPA insists on what amounts to a zero emissions internal combustion engine.

      Which, of course, is impossible.

Which may be just the point.

Set unattainable standards – then denounce the victim for “noncompliance.”

Unfortunately, it matters not what people think or what the science proves. What matters is what the United Nations wants all the politicians to believe in, and what the United Nations can persuade our politicians to sign.

The United Nations – with the help of the most powerful political leader, Barack Obama, and the most powerful spiritual leader, Pope Francis – has gone about its business to ensure the Paris Climate Conference will be a success. An international agreement controlling fossil fuel energy use, banning it from 2100, will be signed. The UN has already ensured that the debacle of Copenhagen will not be repeated in Paris. In practice, life before being FUBER is typically 8 to 12 years.

It’s worse for off-shore because any substantial failure require maintenance by e.g. floating crane that has to await a suitable window in wind and sea conditions as well as access to the few cranes (there’s only ONE that suits the biggest wind turbines in the whole North Sea). So offshore wind turbines can spend quite a bit of their lives “sulking” while awaiting repairs.

It doesn’t get much better for some on-shore facilities where some smaller private owners cannot afford repairs after their supplier closes its doors for lack of subsidies to flog more of the things.

Depending on what has failed, leaving the heavy machinery stationary for months on end in the weather can lead to further damage in e.g. bearings that are supposed to rotate to spread the wear.

When you see figures like 3 to 5 Trillion Dollars, it’s not too difficult to imagine how a million here and there won’t get siphoned off to make some people very rich, when even a Billion is only 0.02% of that total.

As bobl says above, that amount of money actually would go a long way towards construction of electrical power grids in Developing Countries.

Do you actually think China has been constructing power plants like crazy over the last ten years without also constructing grids as well. For every second large scale coal fired power plant being built, they are also constructing one large scale hydro plant as well. Wind power in China is an afterthought that supplies almost nothing, and where power is really needed, they build plants which actually can supply what is required.

I actually read an article the other day that says that China already has more electrical power than they need.

In China, barely 13.3% of all power being generated is consumed in the Residential sector, and in the already Developed World, with access to constant reliable electricity the Residential sector, where (virtually) every home is connected, the Residential sector consumes between 32 and 38% of all generated power.

There are literally hundreds of millions of people in China either without power at all, or very very little power.

When the UN turns a blind eye to what China is doing, then you know that this is just a scam.

            Tony.

was just checking if anything had gone online about Flannery’s appearance at a SunEdison-sponsored event at Castlemaine Town Hall in Victoria last nite & came across the following instead:

25 Sept: BangorDailyNews: Darren Fishell: Wind company to pay $2.75M, limit future projects to advance state’s largest farm
Wind power developer SunEdison announced it agreed to give $2.75 million to conservation efforts and limit where it pursues wind farms to advance the state’s largest wind project to date in Bingham.
SunEdison said Friday the conservation fund is one part of an agreement between it and the group Friends of Maine Mountains, which in March withdrew an appeal of the Bingham project before the Board of Environmental Protection.
The company and nonprofit said they did not announce the agreement at the time in order to line up the specific conservation projects to benefit from the funds, which were selected by Friends of Maine Mountains, according to its
    policy director, Chris O’Neil…

17 Aug: Reuters: SunEdison, Goldman Sachs funds form $1 billion investment vehicle
U.S. solar company SunEdison Inc said it would form a $1 billion warehouse investment vehicle along with funds managed by Goldman Sachs Group Inc to fund construction and buy operating assets.
West Street Infrastructure Partners III and its affiliates, managed by Goldman Sachs, will provide $300 million equity for the investment vehicle, WSIP Warehouse, SunEdison said.
A syndicate of banks including Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Corp and Deutsche Bank AG will provide commitments of $700 million debt. Of this, $500 million will be a five-year term loan and $200 million a four-year revolving credit facility.
SunEdison will have the option to expand the facility by up to $1 billion…
SunEdison agreed in July to buy Vivint Solar Inc, the second-biggest U.S. solar panel installer, in a deal valued at about $2.2 billion to speed up its expansion in the booming residential solar market…

Goldman Strikes Again: Did A Probe Into “Global Warming” [snip] Cost A Prime Minister’s Job

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-09-26/did-goldman-sachs-sacrifice-australias-prime-minister-his-doubts-about-global-warmin

    …Goldman Sachs.

While we hardly have to remind readers that it is Goldman that conceived of the carbon-credit market, and was behind cap and trade, here is an (in)convenient summary of who the true puppetmaster is behind the worldwide infatuation with stopping “global warming”, and who stands to benefit the most as the world is manipulated into doing everything to kill global warming dead in its tracks, courtesy of Matt Taibbi:

…Fast-forward to today. it’s early June in Washington, D.C. Barack Obama, a popular young politician whose leading private campaign donor was an investment bank called Goldman Sachs – its employees paid some $981,000 to his campaign – sits in the White House. Having seamlessly navigated the political minefield of the bailout era, Goldman is once again back to its old business, scouting out loopholes in a new government-created market with the aid of a new set of alumni occupying key government jobs.Gone are HankPaulson and Neel Kashkari; in their place are Treasury chief of staff Mark Patterson and CFTC chief Gary Gensler, both former Goldmanites. (Gensler was the firm’s co-head of finance.) And instead of credit derivatives or oil futures or mortgage-backed CDOs, the new game in town, the next bubble, is in carbon credits – a booming trillion dollar market that barely even exists yet, but will if the Democratic Party that it gave $4,452,585 to in the last election manages to push into existence a groundbreaking new commodities bubble, disguised as an “environmental plan,” called cap-and-trade.

The new carbon-credit market is a virtual repeat of the commodities-market casino that’s been kind to Goldman, except it has one delicious new wrinkle: If the plan goes forward as expected, the rise in prices will be government-mandated. Goldman won’t even have to rig the game. It will be rigged in advance.

    [SNIP]

The feature of this plan that has special appeal to speculators is that the “cap” on carbon will be continually lowered by the government, which means that carbon credits will become more and more scarce with each passing year. Which means that this is a brand-new commodities market where the main commodity to be traded is guaranteed to rise in price over time. The volume of this new market will be upwards of a trillion dollars annually; for comparison’s sake, the annual combined revenues of all’ electricity suppliers in the U.S. total $320 billion.

Goldman wants this bill. The plan is (1) to get in on the ground floor of paradigm-shifting legislation, (2) make sure that they’re the profit-making slice of that paradigm and (3) make sure the slice is a big slice. Goldman started pushing hard for cap-and-trade long ago, but things really ramped up last year… [snip long quote]

The bank owns a 10 percent stake in the Chicago Climate Exchange, where the carbon credits will be traded. Moreover, Goldman owns a minority stake in Blue Source LLC, a Utah-based firm that sells carbon credits of the type that will be in great demand if the bill passes. [snip]

Will this market be bigger than the energy-futures market?

“Oh, it’ll dwarf it,” says a former staffer on the House energy committee.

[snip] … cap-and-trade, as envisioned by Goldman, is really just a carbon tax structured so that private interests collect the revenues. Instead of simply imposing a fixed government levy on carbon pollution and forcing unclean energy producers to pay for the mess they make, cap-and-trade will allow a small tribe of greedy-as-hell Wall Street swine to turn yet another commodities market into a private tax-collection scheme. This is worse than the bailout: It allows the bank to seize taxpayer money before it’s even collected.

Cap-and-trade is going to happen. Or, if it doesn’t, something like it will. …[snip]…” – Goldman’s future revenues depend on it.

    [snip]

And so Abbott suddenly became a major liability, if not so much for Australia, then certainly for Goldman Sachs.

In retrospect, while Abbott completely unexpected exit on September 14 was a shock, his Prime Ministerial replacement should come as no surprise at all: Malcolm Turnbull, as we noted, just happened to be Chairman of Goldman Sachs Australia from 1997-2001. The same Turnbull who was deposed as opposition leader in 2009 over his support for a carbon tax and an emissions trading scheme, a “scheme” that, when fully implemented, would lead to huge monetary windfalls for none other than Turnbull’s former employer: Goldman Sachs.

So was Goldman the responsible party behind Abbott’s ouster? One can only speculate, however one thing is certain: any concerns and fears of “probes” or “audits” into Australia’s global warming “data and statistics” are now history.

I have questions for you all on matters of energy accounting and tax accounting.

•Due to work and other matters last week I have not had a chance to begin reading let alone mentally processing the Big New Climate Science revelations from Evans et al in these hallowed pages. Can someone give me a 140-character tweet-sized summary of what he’s said so far? How about 320 characters? Is that too much to ask?

•Have you all received a tax refund via my.gov.au/mygov/ and did you appreciate the itemized bill showing you where your tax “contribution” was spent in the federal budget? I thought this was wonderful and it’s what I’ve wanted to see for years. It never occurred to me that half my tax goes into welfare, and most of that in aged pensions. I hope the blue-rinse brigade, a core contingent of Jo’s audience, appreciates the work I do in involuntarily keeping a roof over their head.

In other news, that quicksand/sinkhole thing at Rainbow beach was pretty scary, eh?
I wonder if someone had the bass on their car stereo turned up too loud and it liquefied the sand? Is that possible?
Is there a more subterranean geological explanation?

Call me biased, given that I am employed by ‘big oil’, (though my monthly pay slip does not display anything like the vast sums imagined by those who do not work in the industry), but the Wilderness Society have again gone way off-topic with their criticism of the 39 day research programme to be undertaken by the CSIRO and various Oil majors in the Great Australian Bight.

First, green groups complain that oil companies do not understand or appreciate the ecosystem (the ecosystem which is already being heavily damaged by large scale tuna farming, and over-fishing, but that’s not relevant, as it’s not Big Oil). Then, when said companies pay to do some sort of research, that’s bad too.

I notice the the Wilderness Society don’t seem to have a clue (or care) about the work which will be done, but just have to start talking about the Deepwater Horizon disaster as if that’s a natural and standard course of events with ultra-deepwater wildcat drilling. No one wants that to happen, not for financial, or environmental reasons…

Related to the Macondo disaster, the Chief Counsel’s Report (very large PDF – 27mb) is an incredibly well written, and objective report on the events, and it has been written so those without technical expertise in the area, can understand normal rig operations, and indeed, abnormal operations.

I am glad that there are genuine environmental groups willing to highlight problems and act to protect things which need to be protected (well, I imagine there are still such groups around somewhere, but maybe they have all been co-opted by the Green blob?), but I wish they would stick to actual problems, rather than fear-mongering about something they know nothing about, and do not care to learn more about.

I am in no position to say whether the assertion that the feedback mechanisms in the ‘model’s are actually all tied to the surface tempature or not but if they are then that is the most bizarre discovery I can imagine about these mathematical constructs.
It is just so far removed from any proper notion of “modelling”, that is a mathematical representation of at least the dominant mechansims of an actual system, that it is utterly risible. It really goes to the essence of just what the hell ‘climate’ science is and who the hell climate ‘scientists’ think they are. To so tie the mathematics to one parameter is simply the essence of self reference, it is religious, it is astrological, it is ideological.

That said, the antics of so many of the CAGW advocacy cadre and their bum sniffing followers in the MSM ( That’s Ok isn’t it Mod?, Fair comment?) does not surprise me at all and would be in complete accord with such a practice. Function following form in their alternate universe.

recorded in the NYC Ford Foundation Building during Climate Week, with an audience apparently consisting of Yale/Columbia students, with a deceptive Vox Pop in Times Square, & a panel of self-interested business moguls, who want the politicians at the Paris Climate Conf to tax them, tax carbon, assess carbon risk for the Financial sector so they can get their CO2 bubble trading scheme going, remove fossil fuel subsidies & get African countries to leapfrog fossil fuels & move straight to wind, solar, wave & other unproven technologies, which Branson says will be cheaper in the long-term! hypocrites?

AUDIO: 27mins: 27 Sept: BBC In the Balance: Profit and the Planet
Some of the biggest names in global business step up before an invited audience for a special In the Balance debate on the way forward in tackling climate change. Will business always follow the fastest route to a profit when it comes to burning fossil fuels? Are new policies needed, forcing businesses to change the ways in which they operate? Or when it comes to finding solutions to carbon emissions, is big global business now leading the way, daring to propose change that no government will propose, innovating new planet-saving technologies and creating new markets to make innovation possible? Recorded in New York, during Climate Week, featuring guest speakers Sir Richard Branson and Unilever’s CEO Paul Polman and presented by Simon Jack.

The report’s lead author, British researcher Greg Archer, said: ‘The tests are outdated and the people who do them are paid by the manufacturers. The starting point for improvement has to be the establishment of a genuinely independent regulator.’…
***The real diesel scandal? Our obsession with emissions has killed thousands
COMMENT: By Conservative Peer Matt Ridley
Consider how the great European switch to diesel engines evolved. It a was a top-down decision as a direct result of exaggerated fears about climate change…

28 Sept: Daily Mail: Wind farm toll of sea birds is 12 times as bad as feared: Gannets found to be flying higher than previously thought putting them within reach of the blades
Turbine blades must be a minimum of 22 metres (72ft) above sea level, and it was previously thought gannets flew well below this.
But using GPS trackers, researchers at the universities of Leeds, Exeter and Glasgow found that while hunting the birds flew at an average height of 27 metres – putting them within the blades’ reach…
Writing in the Journal of Applied Ecology they estimated up to 12 times more gannets could be killed by turbines than current figures suggest, and called for the minimum height to be raised to 30 metres.
They also warned that plans for two wind farms near the Bass Rock breeding colony in the Firth of Forth in Scotland could see 1,500 birds killed a year…
