Philippe Verdier is a household name in France where he does the weather on the nightly news on “France 2”. He’s releasing a book “Climat Investigation” being launched right now, outing himself as very much a skeptic, saying top climate scientists “have been “manipulated and politicised”. He decided to write the book because a year ago he was horrified when the French Foreign Minister got all the weather presenters together and urged them to use the term “climate chaos” in their broadcasts.
The France-2 response to force him off air is the best publicity his book could get. The Streisand effect will do his book sales a big favour. But lets hope wisdom prevails, and he is able to keep doing his job. Send feedback to “France 2” about this forced holiday — what better proof that free speech hangs by a thread, and the edifice of the Great Global Warming Scare is only maintained by bullying and intimidation. About half of all meteorologists are skeptics. How many of them don’t speak up out of fear? The 97% consensus is not created by science but by coercion.

In a promotional video, Mr Verdier said: “Every night I address five million French people to talk to you about the wind, the clouds and the sun. And yet there is something important, very important that I haven’t been able to tell you, because it’s neither the time nor the place to do so.”
He added: “We are hostage to a planetary scandal over climate change – a war machine whose aim is to keep us in fear.”
His outspoken views led France 2 to take him off the air starting this Monday. “I received a letter telling me not to come. I’m in shock,” he told RTL radio. “This is a direct extension of what I say in my book, namely that any contrary views must be eliminated.”
The book has been released at a particularly sensitive moment as Paris is due to host a crucial UN climate change conference in December.

The 330-page book also controversially contains a chapter on the “positive results” of climate change in France, one of the countries predicted to be the least affected by rising temperatures. “It’s politically incorrect and taboo to vaunt the merits of climate change because there are some,” he writes, citing warmer weather attracting tourists, lower death rates and electricity bills in mild winters, and better wine and champagne vintages.
The book was criticised by French newspaper Le Monde as full of “errors”. “The models used to predict the average rise in temperatures on the surface of the globe have proved to be rather reliable, with the gap between observations and predictions quite small,” it countered.

Excellent. Actually his correlation between cosmic ray intensity and cloud cover supports Lord Monckton’s paper that lack of cloud cover caused the heating in the 1980s. What they have done is to show that solar activity directly affects cloud cover and this alone can produce warming. Simple.
You have to love his spike in Europe’s temperatures in 1988, the year the IPCC was formed. Otherwise the real data shows flat either side. He says for 12 years, but this was 2011, so 16 now and 40 before.
He also says the real data from the US shows that 1930 was the hottest year, the years of the terrible dust storms which devastated the US. Possibly our real data would put it around 1900 in the Federation drought, but the BOM refuses to consider the data with which it was entrusted in 1909.

Actually, to be perfectly fair to him, he only claims very high correlation, not causality.
It was also interesting how different the climate in the US was to that in Europe. His skepticism about a Global Temperature was clear. It is a construction. I was amazed, as he was, that the ClimateGate people refused to release their data, but he was still able to put the picture together. The step function in Europe in 1986 has to be explained. My guess is that it may correlate very well with a dramatic change in technology in the Stephenson Screens and consequent homogenization.
He also said his team were beyond firing, which is the only way they could do the work. No one else with his scientific views would get a job in the area. This is a damning comment on the state of Climate science in Europe.

As an aside, Vincent Courtillot is a geophysicist, so not qualified as a ‘climate scientist’. Unlike our Tim the Giant Dead Kangaroo specialist, he can never have an opinion which counts. Phillipe however is a fair dinkum meteorologist, so he must be part of the 3% who are wrong.

The AGW scam has now gone so far people will now be sacked for being a skeptic. The exact same treatment has been given to many scientists who have cast doubt about the Darwinian theory of evolution for the past several decades. Sad to see such draconian actions applied simply because someone dares to have another opinion. One wonders if the secular scientists are so convinced about what they believe is true with global warming, what are they afraid of when someone disagrees and wants to debate it? There are many instances of mutual benefit, some even following predator-prey mathematics.
In predator-prey, each entity cannot live without the other. If the predator eats too much prey, it will become hungry. If the prey kills too many hosts, it will also become hungry.
In the context of M. Verdier, the host has just given him a big meal and his effect can now afford to be well beyond that before.

Do the maths. If he wrote a Climate Scare book instead, he might not sell as many copies (because it would be so boring) but he’d win prizes, grants, be put on advisory committees and boards, and if his work was loopy enough, he might be offered a bonus from The Royal Society too. As you stated this is a climate skeptic site, so why did you jump on me by going on about it? Have I touched a raw nerve? I only tried to illustrate how skepticism is healthy in any area of scientific endeavor, and any attempt to stamp it out is bad in the name of science. Whether evolution is true or not is not the point. The approach to searching for the truth is the point. It appears you would agree with the approach used by the Roman inquisition to silence Galileo in front of the secular scientists and the church of the day. I prefer to listen to all sides, analyze the evidence then decide for myself. I don’t like being told what’s true or not just purely on faith value.

I can’t see how you can equate support for “intelligent design” or “Creation Science” with global warming scepticism.
It isn’t as if debate about Darwin’s theories has been suppressed ever since it became public, nor has ” Darwinism” remained unmodified. When someone comes up with new data it is considered, debated, and if it seems appropriate, its implications are imposed on the Darwinian model. That’s how science is done, but if someone wants to import religious beliefs to challenge science, they are better fitted to mainstream “climate science” than to science.

Peer review accepted many fallcious computer-generated garbage papers. Yes, peer review is working perfectly… That’s not even touching on the incestuous pal review where buddies pass each others’ papers through to publication even though they are riddled with garbage. Having been on the iside of academia, I have a pretty good idea of how it works.
When I started my PhD I read a few hundred papers and theses … maybe 1 in 50 was really good… most were dross. There is a publish or perish mentality in academia which forces academics to churn out irrelevant papers in order to get their counts up. It doesn’t serve science very well. It’s even worse when you have metric boatloads of money being poured into a field such as climate science. It sucks all the oxygen out of the proverbial room. Hence we get nutters like Lew publishing tangential papers from his field of psychology to attract cliamte science funding. It’s a complete sideshow.
But as I said… the main criticism is that his logic (based on the abstract) is so bad it is laughable. He seems to dwell in a world of his own imagining. I would recommend he get help, but he provides so much mirth for the rest of us. In truth he is a unwitting weapon for climate sceptics. Funny on many levels.

I wrote 3 skits this summer for Vacation Bible School. They all had a character who yelled “We’re all gonna die!” The high school kids who performed them, and the younger kids who watched them both seemed to enjoy them.
Kids these days prefer edgier entertainment than when I was little. You can’t get their attention unless it involves the end of the world.

The new traditional owners are not the recognised and accepted original land owners. This was addressed several years ago.
The port shenanigans were all Queensland Ports doings – not Adani’s.

The irony of the whole thing was. I posted on the Wind Energy group on Linkedin saying that I thought once Abbott got in, the days of tax payer funded construction of wind assets would not only be over in 5 minutes, but that you could kiss goodbye any chance of meeting the RET targets that were set at the time. It was a funny debate because I got completely flamed by the obvious audience who said I had no idea what I was talking about. However I can only assume one of them was worried enough about how right I was and called my work and asked for me to be silenced.
The first I knew was I got a phone call from the Comms. Manager asking me to please stop. I told him I had no intention of letting the company dictate my thoughts and if he wanted to take it further he should put it in writing. Within hours I had an email from HR that read a lot like a formal warning, but wasnt worded precisely that way. I replied and said, fine lets take it to Fair Work and see what they reckon. HR replied, no need for that (back peddling at 100kmh) and they let it go.
I say irony, because it turns out I was right. The original RET target has not been met and neither will the new one. So… neeeeyah neeeyah lol…

Having lived in Darwin for 11 years and being both a keen professional and recreational fisherman. I was always pretty impressed with the way mangrove trees can basically live under water for about 6-12 hours per day. Its a 5-7m tide in most parts of the NT and if you fish a creek mouth for a full turn, you see trees go from hundreds of meters from the shoreline, to completely submerged for hours. I have a strong feeling mangroves are pretty tolerant of sea changes.

The problem of political correctness is an insidious part of the AGW agenda. How many scientists of the the CSIRO and BOM have changed their opinion on global warming after retirement? Perhaps they weren’t instructed to emphasise global warming per se, as the French meteorologists were, but still there has been a lot of covert pressure. Why would you discard pre 1900 temperature readings when they were recorded by an army of community minded citizens? The old thermometers were accurate to half a degree farenheit, and we are only looking at 3/4 degree celsuis change since the mid 1800’s. Perhaps it a bit warmer now, but it was also pretty warm in the late 1800’s e.g. Bourke.

I did the calculations and determined that the melting they suggest by 2100 required a MINIMUM of 12Watts per square meter to 50W per square metre (given the uncertainty range). I have written to the authors and requested they either amend or retract the article given that the conclusion they come to is energetically impossible. We are at the end of the end of the climate wars. It is not possible to push CAGW when the planet is abruptly cooling.
There are dozens of independent observations and analysis results that support the assertion that the surface warming for a doubling of atmospheric CO2 is less than 0.2C. The majority of the warming in the last 150 years was due to solar cycle changes, not due to the increase in atmospheric CO2. In addition the majority of the CO2 rise in the last 30 years was due to natural causes, not due to anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Double whammy.
The solar cycle has been interrupted, as opposed to a solar slowdown. There are now astonishing rapid changes occurring to the sun (changes to solar coronal holes which is interesting as coronal holes are caused by a solar core phenomena). The warming of the last 150 years will be reversed over 2 to 3 years.

Hello. Sure can. I am working a series of articles which I will present when there is significant cooling. This is a 10,000 meter explanation of a couple of key components.
There is a physical reason for everything that has happened in the paleo record. Just as rocks do not jump up hill the earth’s climate does not jump or tip from one state to another. There is a massive forcing function that caused past climate changes.
The glacial/interglacial cycle is not caused by orbital changes in solar insolation at 65N. A single simple observation to support that assertion is the fact that the Younger Dryas abrupt climate change which occurred 11,900 years ago, at which time the planet went from interglacial warm to glacial cold with 70% of the cooling occurring in less than a decade and the cold period remaining for 1200 years, occurred at a time when solar insolation at 65N was maximum. Solar insolation at 65N is currently the same as it was during the coldest period of the last glacial period.
The Younger Dryas abrupt cooling was not caused by an interruption to the North Atlantic drift current and has not caused by a comet impact (A comet impact would cool the planet for a few years not a decade. The pattern of the Younger Dryas burn marks could not possibly be caused by a single comet or a break up a single comet). The cooling due to a complete stoppage of the the Atlantic drift current is a factor of 7 too small to explain the Younger Dryas cooling. Regardless there is recent evidence that there is no discrete deep water return current to interrupt. There was a massive melt pulse of fresh water into the Atlantic 1000 years before the Younger Dryas and absolutely no evidence of cooling. There are piles of urban myths hanging around climate science, as there is no cause to observed cycle climate change and the glacial/interglacial cycle.
There have been 22 glacial/interglacial cycles. Interglacial periods end abruptly not gradually. Those are facts, not theories.
The sun is the cause of the past and recent climate change. If that assertion is correct the sun is significantly different than the standard model. There are also 200 astronomical paradoxes and anomalies that are directly related to how the sun is different than a simple large fusion engine and how the sun caused what has happened in the past.
Comment:
An observational hint that the sun is different than a simple fusion engine, is the fact that coronal holes’ rotational speed does not change with solar latitude. The solar surface plasma high latitude rotational speed is roughly 40% less than the rotational speed of the solar equator. Sunspots float on top of the solar plasma and hence rotate at the same speed as the plasma.
The coronal holes are caused by high speed protons that are emitted from regions deep within the sun. There is now obvious observational evidence that something has changed deep within the sun as there are patches appearing in the coronal holes which indicates that what was causing the high speed proton emission has been interrupted. The coronal holes had started to weaken and as they weakened they started to cover vast regions of the sun (up to roughly 25% of the solar surface region in the earth direction) prior to the occurrence of patches in the coronal holes.

The peculiar solar cycle 24 – where do we stand?
The cooling will be most sever over the ocean as there are less cloud forming micro particles over the ocean and a significant portion of the cooling is due to increased evaporation caused by an increase in wind speed. The paleo record shows past cooling in specific Atlantic ocean regions of up 10C. There is a tenfold increase in dust particles deposited on the Greenland ice sheet during the abrupt cold periods which is caused by the increased jet speed. The GCR cooling is greatest in the 40 degree to 60 degree latitude region due to orientation of the geomagnetic field as explained by Svensmark in his book.

The solar cycle has been interrupted which is different than a slowdown in the solar cycle.
There are cycles of warming and cooling in the paleo record which correlate with past solar cycle changes. Roughly every 6000 to 8000 year, the warming cycle is followed by an abrupt cooling phase when the solar cycle restarts.

There are abrupt geomagnetic field changes that correlate with both the solar cycle changes and the abrupt climate changes. What is missing is the mechanism(s) that causes the changes and explains the correlation.
The geomagnetic field intensity is currently dropping at 5%/decade (starting in the late 1990s, the field intensity was previously dropping at 5%/century) which is ten time faster than a core based change is theoretically capable of causing. (A back emf is generated which resists core based changes). There is no physical reason why there would suddenly in the 1990s be a massive movement of liquid in the core to cause the sudden drop in the geomagnetic field and regardless even if there were a massive movement of liquid in the core of the earth, the back emf would limit the speed of the field change.

The European’s launched a set of three satellites to which provide laboratory measurement accuracy of the entire geomagnetic field intensity and orientation. The data from the SWARM set of satellites confirmed the geomagnetic field intensity is dropping at 5% per decade.

The YD cosmic impact seemed to be the only rational explanation for the abrupt drop in temperatures, so I just did a little more reading and found to my horror there was no dust spike in the Greenland ice core.
Steffensen et al (2008) … ‘no dust spike simultaneous with the transition. Instead, the increase in dust lags behind changes in deuterium and oxygen isotopes.’

First up i think the agenda 21 crowd is more of a socialist thing rather than a communist one. I find it strange that even though a small minority of people are snowed in (pardon the pun) with all that evidence of AGW they still feel the need to “raise awareness” by marching somewhere chanting slogans.

Really this turn of events should not come as a surprise, think about it. Recent RICO excursions into madness and several other calls to jail sceptics are all part of a clandestine attack on free speech modelled on the Holocaust laws.

About 100 people sat across from each other in Forrest Place and held each other’s gaze, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, and sometimes with little expression at all.
It was the idea of the Perth-based group Liberators International, who also instigated moving train parties and the blind trust experiment, where a blindfolded Aboriginal girl stood on Broome’s Cable Beach inviting people to hug her…

Coal from the mine will cause annual CO2 emissions of around 128 million tonnes – roughly similar to the combined GHG emissions of Norway and Sweden – although those emissions will take place in India, where the coal will be exported to.
Indian owner Adani has estimated coal from the mine will create 3 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions over its 60-year lifespan.
“With regard to the impacts of the emissions caused by the use of the coal from the mine, recipient nations will need to meet their obligations under the United Nations Convention on Climate Change,” Australia’s Environment Ministry said…
“Fortunately for the Reef, and the climate, Carmichael has been rejected by 14 major banks, Queensland’s treasury department has described the project as ‘unbankable’ and no other investors are prepared to get behind a project that needs $16.5 billion,” Greenpeace campaigner ***Shani Tager said.
“And that’s not surprising because it fails the triple bottom line — it would be an environmental disaster for the climate and the Great Barrier Reef, it would not make a profit, and it does not have social licence from the community.”

Pretty obvious that the writer of this article either has no comprehension of maths, or didn’t even bother to check, just blindly copying what he probably saw somewhere else.
The article opens up with the blurb that this mine will export 60 Million tonnes of coal a year, and then goes on to say it will lead to CO2 emissions of 128 Million tonnes a year, and then goes on to add that this will be a total of 3 Billion tonnes of CO2 over its 60 year life span.
Hmm!
If one tonne of coal being burned results in an average of 2.86 Tonnes of CO2, then the yearly emissions from 60 million tonnes should amount to 170 million tonnes.
Even at his quoted 128 million tonnes a year, and its 60 year life span, then that works out to 7.7 Billion tonnes of CO2, and not his quoted 3 Billion tonnes, and if the correct emissions level is used, then it’s 10.2 Billion tonnes of CO2.
Incidentally, that 60 million tonnes of coal a year exported from this Adani mine is enough for only ten new large scale coal fired power plants, a small percentage of India’s proposed new coal fired plants.

60mtpa is actually quite an operation. Production of that magnitude will not be achieved overnight. Ramping to that figure will take some years and the greenies will become increasingly apoplectic

The rail line to be built will also service other proposed operations in the Galilee as the Q’ld Govt has sensibly decreed that only one line is needed for the entire range of proposed operations. The duration of this (quite some years) promises to become fascinating

CB: So, when is NASA going to call 2015’s temperature? Is it going to be the hottest on record?
GS: That’s something that our lab puts together, and we do the end of year summary in January, and we’ll wait until January. I mean the indications are that 2015 will be a record year. I did a quick calculation a couple of days ago based on the January-August amount, the anomaly that we have so far. It looks like it’s got about a 90% chance of being the hottest year on record, given the past relationship between the year and that particular period. It doesn’t look like it’s going to cool down any time soon…
CB: And what do you think about when people say 2015 being the hottest year on record, and indeed 2014, what do you think about when people say that signals the end of the so-called slowdown in surface warming?
GS: So…this so-called “slowdown”…it’s really not clear that that ever existed. I think you have to think a little bit in terms of the different timescales. If you think about the longest timescales, you know multiple decades, there’s no evidence for a change in the underlying trend. If you look at shorter timescales then, yeah, there’s timescales when it’s going down, timescales when it’s going up, and there’s variation because of things like El Niño, because of things like the Pacific Decadal Oscillation…
CB: So, is it fair to say, then, that whether or not there’s a “hiatus”, whether or not people think there is one, it depends quite a lot on the definition?
GS: Well, people have been very loose about what they’ve defined it as, and so, if you’re interested in short-term trends, then you can attribute those, you can dive in and say, why was one year warmer than the other, why were these five years cooler than those five years? …
CB: Do you think it was a problem then that the IPCC in its last report gave quite a focus on the hiatus, and even used the term “hiatus”, when before that it existed in the media really. Do you think the IPCC was right then to do what they did in the last report?
GS: So, I think the IPCC might have been better off just talking about the difference between short-term trends and long-term trends, and how the different attribution works for those. The problem with the IPCC trying to keep up with a kind of moving story is that they’re constrained to only be looking at the literature that came out before the report came in…

Doubt that you will bother to answer but the evidence is mounting that CO2/coal has very little effect on the “impact” you are referring to. What you should be doing is setting out a “man-in -the -street” explanation of the source of your concerns . If it has its origins in IPCC publications then I would like to see that you really have your head around the physics/mathematics at the heart of the models that IPCC rely on. If you haven’t then how can you be sure you are not guilty of misleading the rest of us? Is that what ACF represents? I hope not.
Better to direct your efforts at finding the real drivers of climate variations. If and when we find these drivers we will be in a much better position to develop strategies to co-exist with our environment. Who knows we may need the 24/7 energy that coal can provide to survive what the “environment ” has in store for us.

Minister Hunt has made a decision which will have a huge impact on life on Earth…it can produce jobs and income and energy…all necessary for life on Earth… a blatant sign of concern for the Community.

Agreement on the subsidy for the £1bn Swansea tidal lagoon project is “desperately needed”, the Welsh Economy Minister has said.
Edwina Hart said without “certainty” on subsidy it was difficult for the project to attract investment.

The firm behind the scheme has told BBC it would be “catastrophic” if the delayed project collapsed over funding.
