Everything is a gender equity issue. Who knew the climate was sexist?
“…women have good reason to be worried, given that climate change will affect women around the world the most. Climate change is often framed as an ecological disaster, less frequently as a key crisis for global gender equality.”
In the current climate men have shorter lifespans and higher suicide rates. The very caring women at “Women’s Agenda” don’t seem to care about that. Nevermind.
Why do women care more? They’re more obedient, less willing to take risks
Even the writers and editors of a “liberated” emancipated women’s magazine reveal more than they realize about their own belief. They’ve been told last year was the hottest year on record, and parts of the Great Barrier Reef are bleached. These things would happen no matter what caused climate change, but Annika Blau is an obedient woman and she believes that our power stations and cars cause the bleaching. Indeed she is so well trained, she is even convinced her position is “logical” and says so, without providing any logical reason that events which probably occurred hundreds of times before are proof of anything. (It’s been hotter for thousands of years of the Holocene, and the Great Barrier Reef survived. Wild climate swings are the norm, not evidence your car controls the climate.)
Women may well be more concerned about man-made climate-change. (But on a different study I suspect men might be more concerned about our civilization, our freedom and our quality of life, but who has asked that?).
“Do women care more than men about climate change?
According to the Garnaut Review of Australian attitudes to climate change, numerous studies show that women are more concerned about climate change than men. This is mirrored in the US.
Woman are more convinced than men that climate change is real, already happening, and caused by human activity.”
It’s not a sign that they “care more than men”. It’s a sign that they are less willing to take risks and speak against the current predominant meme. Who wants to be called a “denier”? As I’ve been pointing out for years, the reason there are not more women on the skeptical sensible side of the climate debate is because the belief is maintained with social pressure, not logic and reason. Where is the open debate and polite discussion that would allow women to be more involved in the decisions? Manners everyone — they were invented for a reason.
Climate care is coerced via namecalling and bullying
No wonder women are less willing to speak out. In an aggressive cultural climate, where universities train people to toss insults, those who don’t “believe” are exiled, sacked, abandoned, vilified, kicked out of institutes and risk their career. Sometimes their children are targeted too. Artistes raise funds to do fantasy videos of blowing up skeptical school children. Bullying is a fact of life in Western civilization and it works — even on female surgeons, surely the top of the pecking order. Friends and sometimes even family ostracize those who hold the less obedient opinion. What woman wouldn’t want to be compared to ISIS?
Contrast that with the saints who convince us to waste billions of dollars on Desal plants and windmills. Hello “Australian of the Year”. How about a Nobel Peace Prize?
Here’s a big clue:
“… women report less confidence in their understanding of climate science than men.”
Is that a good thing, or a bad thing? Women’s agenda doesn’t say and there is no suggestion that we should we help women to understand this issue, or get more confident. Presumably it’s better if they stay obediently in the dark?
Climate change is just basic physics, remember, so it’s no wonder that women “get it” faster than men. (‘Cos women are much more likely to be in a physics based career? O’yeah.)
Skeptics on the other hand are slow to “get” the physics because they are more likely to be engineers and geologists. Oh. See this survey of the most outspoken skeptics online — highly qualified in the hard sciences. But what skeptics are less likely to have, are degrees in psychology and gender equity studies. Check out the qualifications of readers at joannenova.com.au — that’s 400 people who can do maths.
Belief in the Climate Scare is not about science, it’s about politics and gender
Women are obedient:
Women are also more likely to support action on climate change, and adopt carbon-friendly behaviours themselves.
In the Garnaut Review, gender and political beliefs were the only two factors found to significantly influence attitudes (data on age, location and education level was inconclusive).
This is so lame. Even Women’s Agenda and the researchers say that women care more because they are taught too. Where the heck are the “feminists”. What an incredible put-down of women’s ability to think (and men too):
So why do women care more about climate change than men?
We can’t say for certain why women are more worried about climate change than men. But the researchers suggest it could be because women are socialised to be more empathetic and caring. In contrast, “boys learn that masculinity emphasises detachment, control and mastery”, which could be why men are more sceptical about climate change, more confident in their own opinions, and less alarmed.
As I said in 2009: Why don’t women want to face global bullies? I can’t imagine…
Most of the “blog war” is a testosterone driven point-scoring game. It’s not about figuring out whether the planet will warm, it’s about winning points in a mental rugby match where there are few gentlemen. Women prefer to achieve their aims through other mechanisms than a stand-up fight.
If the women writing “Women’s Agenda” had been socialized to understand logic and reason, they’d be fighting to make this debate more inclusive, to get women involved in the decision making, and to help women be more confident and informed on important issues worth billions of dollars.
For years its been rumored around the blogosphere that I’m a women who knows zip about climate change, but in fact I’m a man who can recognize a tipping point.

El Gordo,
The chart shows surface temperature 2m above the surface, how is that indicative of a tipping point. Or did I miss something?
101
A regional cooling tipping point is not easy to spot, but I’m betting all of April will be bitterly cold in the US north east.
120
Better be! . . .
Anyway hope you’re right

Define bitterly cold. Just so you can confirm the data in 4 weeks time.

@Robk, March 31, 2016 at 1:45 pm:
“The chart shows surface temperature 2m above the surface, how is that indicative of a tipping point. Or did I miss something?”
August 27, 2014: The surface air temperature is projected to rise under all scenarios examined by the IPCC.
According to NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco, (pdf), the IPCC is “the gold standard for authoritative scientific information on climate change because of the rigorous way in which they are prepared, reviewed, and approved.”

“Regardless, all global combined LSAT and SST data sets exhibit a statistically non-significant warming trend over 1998–2012 (0.042°C ± 0.093°C per decade (HadCRUT4); 0.037°C ± 0.085°C per decade (NCDC MLOST); 0.069°C ± 0.082°C per decade (GISS)).
An average of the trends from these three data sets yields an estimated change for the 1998–2012 period of 0.05 [–0.05 to +0.15] °C per decade.
Trends of this short length are very sensitive to the precise period selection with trends calculated in the same manner for the 15-year periods starting in 1995, 1996, and 1997 being 0.13 [0.02 to 0.24], 0.14 [0.03 to 0.24] and 0.07 [–0.02 to 0.18] (all °C per decade), respectively.

I can’t tell you one way or the other about a tipping point. But temperature predictions are a trickier thing than the global warming crowd believes — here it is April 1st, All Fools’ Day by the way and I’m still waking up in the morning to unusually cold temperatures for this time of year — 47°F (roughly 8.3°C) this morning when I would expect a good 10 degrees higher.
Or maybe I’ve tipped? 😉 But it points out the futility of the kind of argument going on about temperature. It depends on where you are and when you measure the temperature. I’m ready to believe a trend over a hundred years or more of good satellite measurements means something. But the more I watch the arguments pro and con the less convinced I become that they mean much of anything except, today when I woke up the temperature was lower than I have learned to expect for this time of year.
111
And we don’t have that 100 year record.
70
Ummm minus 47 deg F ? Isn’t that minus 43.8 ish C?
20
oops…old eyes…47 =8.3 ….
30
Spot on. Repeat at any / every opportunity.
Average standard deviation of climate temperature over the Holocene (last 8000 yrs) is 0.98 ± 0.27C. (AN ESTIMATE OF THE CENTENNIAL VARIABILITY OF GLOBAL TEMPERATURES Lloyd PJ. Energy & Environment · Vol. 26, No. 3, 2015) Current climate observations lie within this range of natural variation.
Ipse facto business as usual, except that politically deranged eco-globalists have an irritating tendency to get in the way of progress, health, wealth, longevity, burgeoning food production, inventiveness, rationality, economic resilience, and simple joie de vivre.
A blight on the landscape by any other name.

In a previous life, after the RAAF, I worked for a printing company on the Gold Coast as the Queensland State accredited and licensed Workplace Health and Safety Officer.
They printed all manner of things, naturally, but one of them was advertising for the Spanish Lottery, called El Gordo. (the fat one)
I always get a smile when I read the comments from our good friend el gordo, because only a ‘bloke’ would use that screen name.
Tony.

Pfft, says you woman!

Yay sister.

Many of us are accepting of the concept of division of labour and extend that to the experts know best. For many life is set up in a manner that the science of climate isn’t their forté.
As it turns out the science of climate was comming along quite well until it was hijacked by the political CO2 phenomenon a few decades ago. It quickly morphed into a UN thing and many people’s trust has been taken for a ride.
162
Having been on both sides of the fence on this blog I can honestly say that I didn’t notice much difference.
That however may have been related to the decent sort of people who inhabit this blog as opposed to those who are active in the areas of politics and climate change catastrophism.
Over the past three years I have become more aware of the part played by bullying in our community.
Bullying is a way of life for some parts of society.
182
Bullying works, it gets results.
What it really shows is that the bully is unaware of the consequences of his actions. He gets a reputation, he gets avoided. His words are not trusted, his actions are not praised. He is forever remembered.
The fact that the UN and various governments around the world have taken this issue upon themselves and driven it like a madman, demonstrates to the world their bully tactics. They have no understanding, nor do they have mercy. They blindly drive their policies over a cliff yet they’d blame others for the crash at the end.
70
Yeah but “whallop” a bully right between the eyes, and problem solved…..
Just by being a skeptic and speaking out, your staring them down.
I copped a lot of bullying as a fat kid, hardened me up something chronic….
Just speak quietly and carry a large stick. Once they realise you bite, they stay away.
What I do find cowardly is how women are targetted in society – any “everyone knos that” nonsense that goes along with alleged “common sense” is usually driven through women in families – they are targetted. Exhibit “A” is the cholesterol myth – you usually see “concerned women” ( subtext : are you a good wife/mother/carer? ) who race out and buy the latest horse pill or expensive placebo so they are “good wives/mothers/carers”.
I actually consider it abusive – it bullies women into feeling guilty, rather than embracing their natural caring role. It never has a debate – it *alwys follows a “the science is settled” route and heaps on the guilt big time. And of course women are heavily communal and worry about what other women think of them if they arent being “good”…..
It annoys me no end and its *very* slick.
Arbeit macht frei…..
60
You are so right about this. Manipulators use guilt and women ARE concerned with caring. That makes them prime targets. Constantly. It is a shocking abuse and always has been. Strangely you never see feminists tackle this. It seems even they have been taken over too (just like environmentalists) and are too busy dividing-and-conquering the sexes.
I loathe how both sexes are stripped of pride or worth in today’s world.
“Surrender or you are scum!” seems to be the motto.
50
Nicely put Greg.
The paragraph on consequences for the Bully very accurately describes a local situation that I moved into 4 years ago.
Nobody speaks to the B family and the advice is to ignore, although that’s not always easy.
It is tragic but I am thankful that this is the one and only instance of this approach to life that I have experienced.
It has made me aware of the terrible price paid by some people
When they have been the victims of institutionalised bullying.
Governments occasionally do make an effort to confront it as with the NSW enquiries into two government sectors some time back.
SStill, there are obviously those who feel that the rewards aoutweigh the downside.

How long before this womans group demand a name change “peron made climate change” after all its all about gender equality….yes?

Is that “peon” made climate change as opposed to aristocratic folk? Those that tell peons what to do, for a while!

I have news. People are not all the same. Height, colour, race, religion, opinions, ability, interests, personality, attitudes, affection, anger, obsessiveness, flippancy, care, emotional sensitivity, relations with each other and with children, respect for authority, the need for security. The list is endless.
However we are told everyone is the same, a parody of the American constitutions which says All Men are created equal. In writing this in the US consitution, it was about ‘under the law’ and your rights. It was not that everyone is the same.
All of marketing plays on these differences. Marketing Global Warming/Climate Change targets women, always with the real danger to your children and your children’s children. etc. It aims to scare not inform. The preaching is always from authority, ex Vice President Al Gore, an amathematical non scientist writer like Tim Flannery. The message is always armageddon with not a single idea that being a bit warmer might well be a good thing in most places where people live.
As for bullying, it is an essential part of life even in groups of animals. However the current Government approved ‘cure’ is to insist everyone is the exactly same, even in gender. This is nonsense. What is needed are practical solutions to bullying, such as the buddy system in schools, as practiced in English public schools. Not telling children to pretend they are homosexuals too and can choose their gender. Why not choose their intelligence, height, speed, weight, colour, social mores as well? While these things can be done to a limited extent, the fact of life is that you start with what you inherit. Taller is not an option, nor gender.
So pointing out the fact that intimidation, bullying and intellectual oppression are hallmarks of the Global Warming crowd is only part of the modern panorama where a few left groups would tell everyone how to live their lives. In my experience they are often self haters who do not like who they are.
283
I forgot to say that women are not men and v.v. despite what we are being told and it is not a choice, despite what the government is now telling our children. For that most women and men are very grateful. Amazingly even Germaine Greer and Barry Humphries totally agree. Besides, they would both be out of a job. As for Caitlin Jenner, at least the hurdling would be easier.
182
After gender it is most important to choose your parents carefully. Surely there are accredited courses in choosing your parents? Like Global Warming which is not happening, the whole experience of Climate Change is an exercise in fantasy and marketing.
173
Not quite so fast TdeF. Jenner still has to contend with the risks of low flying. He has yet to retract his undercarriage. The form drag alone will reduce his top speed.
80
🙂
40
So not a drag queen?
50
That’s funny.
I briefly explored that avenue and considering all the required paraphernalia there appears no practical way to usefully balance the lift/weight/thrust/drag equation.
30
Reminds me of the old joke about the bloke who when asked what type of undercarriage he wanted simply replied: Dragon.
20
Yes well churchill got it right when he said of the Left it was the politics of envy and hate
Those who can, do…..( and to be fair, some people cant through no fault of their own )…however the moaners and whingers who refuse to actually try I have zero time for.
30
When you composed the headline you left out gullible.
131
‘gullible’ is a word that doesn’t exist in the dictionary.
20
Long ago in the Navy, some would flip up stale bread for the “Gulls to catch”!
Then someone, not me, would flip up an Alka-Seltzer!! Other Gulls would watch what happens. Then no more bird-crap from the sky for a while!

Its has always been hard to attract women into engineering and science as a career.
http://www.nature.com/scitable/forums/women-in-science/are-girls-and-women-just-not-interested-19620118
In Australia, among the general population, women are more likely to believe in AGW than men.
130
Even harder to get a job when qualified, even today. Society changes far slower than people wish. The universal right to vote was only granted in the 1850s for men and 1890s for women in Australia. In the 1950s, women typically resigned government posts when they were married, so as not to deprive families of a breadwinner. Now we are told gender is irrelevant and inconsequential and gay men can have babies. Not my observation, more a socialist dream with everyone in Mao suits.
151
This survey from last year said gender played no part (apparently) but it does illustrate the problem of a scientific illiterate population.
‘The CSIRO survey found some confusion among respondents. For instance, even those who thought global warming was not happening still attributed just over a third of climate change to human activity.
‘Those who thought there was no climate change counted friends and family as their most trusted source of information on the issue. University scientists were the most trusted source of respondents saying humans are to blame for global warming.’

It shows that Climate Change is starting to take on an independent existence, which is the marketing point. Not defined and impossible to measure, Climate Change is a chameleon. Clearly a terrible thing and caused by carbon.
In retrospect, Global Warming was too hard as you could actually measure it. That has now been abandoned. This shows how people can be scared by something they do not understand, especially because they do not understand it. What a waste of time blaming temperature changes on CO2. The Greens could have just said boo and people would be frightened. Think of the children and your children’s children. It is all the fault of cars/manufacturers/farmers/miners. A world made entirely of public servants would be happy and secure and you could buy all your stuff from China, including your food.

Ban Di Hydrogen Monoxide.

Hilary Clinton, on women and war. I assume that women would also suffer more in climate, for the same reasons.
Women have always been the primary victims of war. Women lose their husbands, their fathers, their sons in combat. M
My emphasis.
30
There you have the quote of the day! Hillary Clinton. Nice one!
10
“Woman are more convinced than men that climate change is real, already happening, and caused by human activity.”
“And, if you believe that,” said the White Rabbit, “You must be Alice. Welcome to Wonderland. By the way, I have a couple of solar installations in California you could be interested in.”
221
We are not all so gullible, but then, I was never one to go along with the crowd. I very much dislike being taken for a fool and never believed in CAGW anyway. I also couldn’t stand Tony Blair, David Cameron and Barack Obama on sight of their photographs; never felt I could trust any of them as far as I could have thrown them.
Am I the first female to comment on this thread?!
321
I would suggest that these surveys are just another example of selective surveying. Take country girls like my wife and the results will likely be very different.
120
Yep. Country women who have to put down a sheep or cattle with a 30-08, or deal with some of the less glamorous aspects of rural living will call a spade a spade very quickly. My wife grew up in the country, alas she works in a PS type job which has a lot of PC nonsense floating around which has “infected” her thinking somewhat, but I do my best to remind her about the lack of scientific proof of CAGW.
30
“Am I the first female to comment on this thread?!” yes possibly if el gordo doesn’t identify as one?
Mrs Yonnie never fell for the CAGW story, like you she just didn’t trust the main people spruiking it, male female doesn’t matter if you have genuine inquiring mind and courage to admit being wrong.
201
Anne you are certainly not alone. I have convinced females in my family. It all comes down to education in the sciences, a rational mind and no desire to ‘go along with’ the crowd for the sake of peace. I enjoy a good argument and have had the pleasure of seeing True Believers run away from me when they realize I hold all the weapons. It’s so easy as most believers know nothing about the climate.
110
‘It’s so easy as most believers know nothing about the climate.’
True, unfortunately women of my acquaintance shut down conversation on climate change with a ferocious glare. They are thinking of their children and grandchildren.
60
I agree-these same people use E10 petrol because ‘we have go do something don’t we?’ They then proceed to ‘burn up’ tonnes of CO2 on a trip to S America to visit The Galapaco Islands. Never mind the grandkids!

61
As an ex-teacher in high school and a teacher at university, I have seen very little difference in the mental/learning capacity between the genders.
It seems to come down to choices made and the path people choose to follow.
10
Annie,
I truly believe that women have an intuition that is far superior to that of men.
10
Possibly the first to comment, Annie, but far from the only one to follow the brilliant Joanne Nova! Certainly no the only one to be a non-CAGW disciple or acolyte, nor to be proud to say they can see from a country mile away that CAGW is, as a certain ex-PM of ours once quite succinctly put it, “cr*p”.
10
I don’t think women are , lets say , naturally more gullible than men , just more unassuming, because some women prefer the domestic life and raising a family( nothing wrong with that) to going on to further education and a professional career , the basic education we get doesnt prepare you for life after school by teaching us the mental skills that we all need in order to sort out the wheat from the chaff in a rat eat rat environment that we are exposed to in professional adult life, i stand in awe at all those women , like our hostess , that manage to juggle both a career and raise a family at the same time , would be interesting to see a survey that shows how professional career based women differ from those that choose a domestic life in their climate believes .
130
Choices? Not so sure that women ‘prefer’ the domestic life and raising a family. I doubt they have any choice and certainly they are better equipped for it mentally and organizationally and emotionally, but it doesn’t make the choices easier for women, especially those on serious career paths say in medicine, engineering or business. Some just say no to children, which is serious loss for society and often to the women themselves. It is a massive sacrifice men are never asked to make.
Many senior graduates in medicine are just starting to reach their peaks at 30-35 and have to walk away for a few years. It’s not something you can put off forever or you do. Women could argue easily that it is not fair, but fairness never came into gender. Life is not logical and most doctors would seriously question intelligent design. Clearly survival and evolution requires male and female and the chromosone mixing and attempts to pretend gender is irrelevant are just ridiculous.
As for women being more susceptible to emotional appeal, as Hermione said to Ron Weasley in Harry Potter, “Just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn’t mean we all have.” The balance between emotions and logic differs. Both have survival advantages. The marketing behind Climate Change is all emotion and almost no logic. After all, if CO2 cannot change the temperature, how does it change the climate? In what way? No one even bothers to explain.
90
Who knew the climate was sexist?
Well, Cassandra did (seriously). Most women remain unimpressed with technical detail and are nurturing by nature, which includes looking after the environment. I’ve had a “conversation” on this issue with some nice middle-age ladies who have done a complete 180 mid-stream to try and win the argument. Pointless to continue.
Why not say this before ? Because it just invites Twittercrap and makes no difference at all to attitudes.
91
Well heres the thing – the woman who architected the infamouse “Safe” schools initiative is a marxist with a uni degree in gender something or other.
Some women are political first, gender second, and have usually been brain washed of some description.
Actually I think the Left is closer in its reality to Nhilism, than politics….which makes for a scary future should they truly implement their true agenda….its not about politics, its all about pursuit of raw unfettered power and the blood-lust lunacy that drives it all….
30
Original Steve, I’m really not sure “she” is a woman. The chromosomes may be the right ones, but as for the rest of it – nah! And I do speak as a woman, born, bred, raised and practicing – and quite content to be so, not looking to “reassign” my gender.
10
As a woman I have to say something to this. I am lousy at science and advanced maths (though good at basic maths) however I am not stupid, nor gullible and have a logical bent. When some of the arguments didn’t make sense, I persisted in reading as much as I could. Even if I didn’t fully understand some of the science/maths, I could understand enough to see if it was logical/reasonable. No surprise I became a full blown skeptic. In saying that, I tend to agree that most women believe climate change is man made etc. From my observations, there are a number of reasons why. They don’t like to go against the trend, so even if they have doubts they keep quiet about it and do not bother doing their own research. They have no interest in scientific issues so again just believe what they are told. They also don’t trust their own ability to understand it so trust the “experts” without doing their own research. There are many women who are interested science/advance maths but I would say most are not. That should not be an issue IF they had enquiring minds. That is where the problem lies. How do we stop women turning their brains off.
250
Had a painful conversation with a male scientist the other day. He has swallowed the BS so badly including a youtube lecture on how to handle sceptics. Had to explain to him that I did put a lot of thought into it and that most of it was of how poor the evidence and description of the effect was rather than I found proof that its not humans.
160
Fascinating JB. You can’t be serious? Your esteemed friend the ‘scientist’ ventures to the dark side, the ‘how to handle’ propaganda, being unable to maintain a cogent position by
reasoningmodels alone? I suggest to you his belief supplants his reasoning, and the ‘how to’ handbook on YouTube is a tool that enables him to get around his own cognitive dissonance.20
Thanks brill, that is an accurate observation of the problem.

“As a woman I have to say something to this. … How do we stop women turning their brains off.”
___
Brill you’re describing females and males, your remarks are not as gender specific as you might suppose.
Re your final sentence I don’t see this as a ‘problem’ of how to stop them turning their brains off, but to face and understand plus accept that they, both male and female, have not got brains with an on-switch.
They function at a prehensile functional practical level, and are not interested nor able to ‘enquire’, as you do. It’s natural diversity (natural-variability if you wish), and you’re in a cohort that can think, well enough, and not only can, but must, as in ‘must’ breathe.
Personally, I find myself increasingly less interested in ‘normal’ people, and only interested in both males and females who can and actually must enquire. Without the internet to yap with such minds I’d just speak less and less to others and becomes recluse.
The fact that most people presently, female or male, are given over to trivia, flip entertainments, substance abuse and bad behavior, and selfish personality orders that stuff produces makes dealing with many non-thinkers all the more bland, and more-or-less without an upside.
So of necessity I value females and males who can enquire, and must. And the ones who discipline their inquiries into ‘stuff’, tend to figure-out and sort wheat from the chaff. But there’s generally way more chaff than wheat, and in this paddock, some lazy sod has let the chaff takeover the entire field.

Sorry for so many posts but its a rich vein to mine…..
I think smart phones are a *major* problem.
No, I dont own one ( they do nothing for me….) , however life today is so tightly wound that any small issue cant be tolerated. So people dont have the time to research stuff, to sit and muse, to kick stuff around, to be away from the tv and the drivel thats on it.
Smart phones make everything instant, however what it has done is allow subtle peer bullying to become an organised artform.
Smart phones are like having all your mates in your back pocket ( hopefully your mates have a brain…), but also allows the slick and organized “opinion makers” have a direct line to your loved ones brain. This is dangerous.
The hard yards are getting the phone away from them, then sitting them down to explain the science and the fact its all a big scam and has complete lack of scientific proof. In many ways, were asking them to be rebels, but we need them to see if they dont, that multiple generations will become “Starship Trooper”-type canon fodder with “endless war” waiting for them.

I don’t ‘socialise’ on my smartphone much, except the occasional WhatsApp with close family. What I do use it for very frequently is to keep up with Jo’s blog and WUWT and to see how inaccurate today’s BOM forecast was!

I too have the problem of inanity in others and have been a hermit with few exceptions most of my life.Engineer, inventor and amateur scientist my life has been full with little BS, some one further up thread mentioned country girls are more open to investigation and practical things. I now have one of these wonderful femmes in my life and she is certainly a thinker. Women per sec are not less intelligent they are as intelligent as men with an added bonus of intuition. It would seem that our education system and family programming has made them less than they could be.They not only live longer but can endure more pain and seem tougher than men. Strange but I have seen many marriages where the dominant partner appears to be the woman, such a pity that they do not use that dominance for logical thinking rather than what they can get.

Jo, Women are more emotional and sensitive the male species.
We all know that from our childhood when our mothers comforted us.
So it makes sense that women care especially about the environment.
But it is the Scientific evidence that matters in the climate change debate.
And on this point both men and women are equally capable of understanding
the issues. No one should try to divide us on this.

Meh.
Almost threw a shoe though the tele this afternoon. The afternoon news on 7 had a story (and people keeping a straight face) that made me check if today wasn’t April 1st.
Apparently, toys need to be in plain packaging like cigarettes to stop domestic violence.

I’m a slow learner but over a lifetime with a wife and two up front daughters, a DIL who can hold her own in any company plus a couple of sisters who could wave their arms in any argument along with the rest of my highly opinionated and highly vocal family including various nieces, a couple of which had some very high qualifications in their fields including a branch of science, so I have learnt through hard experience to keep a low profile when it comes to any commentary on the skills and attributes or otherwise of the female sex.
Except to say that they are just a smart as a male and often more intelligent in their decisions due to the male’s ego often getting in the way of his brain output.
However during my decades as a gliding instructor where procedures and safety strategies had to be drilled into any and every student regardless of sex until their reactions and making the best decisions become second nature in a difficult or potentially dangerous situation, women matched the males in the quality of their decision making.
Although the male decision making was usually of a more aggressive type which can be put down to the hormonal and physiological differences between male and female.
Women were quite a lot slower at learning to make such decisions than males who were far more positive in their rapid and critical decision making skills including more of the bad ones which can make an instructor sit up there very wide eyed while he takes a couple of seconds to figure just what the hell do I do now to try and get out of this mess without something breaking!
Thats a generalisation as there was a very considerable overlap between sexes in just about every skill and every aspect of flying.
I eventually came to the conclusion that it was because women are far better at juggling a number of tasks / inputs but then take longer to chose a course of action compared to the males as they seemed to get a bit more distracted by a lot of peripheral goings on around them, peripheral items and happenings that usually had little bearing on the decisions that had to made and made rapidly.
Watch in the super markets at the Mums there. They can often be found to be selecting items off the shelf, talking to a couple of friends and keeping an eye on a couple of fast moving slippery little tikes.
That combination would leave most project and goal orientated males, thats most of them, a gibbering wreck if it lasted for more than a couple of minutes or so.
Women were almost invariably better and smoother pilots than the males when it came to aircraft handling and the actual flying the gliders.
As has been found in driving some complex machinery and in the huge mine trucks where a number of women are employed as drivers due to their smoother operation of those multi million dollar heavy earth movers.
More obedient??? Nope! Definitely not the western woman of today.
Nor should she be any more or less obedient in a given situation than a man in the same situation.
Women may indeed be a little more concerned about the future, including the future of the climate plus a hell of a lot of other items of little real long term import.
Women after all are very definitely biologically equipped mentally and physically to be of a nurturing nature as they are the source and the main sustenance for the next generation and like all of biology, the continuation of the species.
Its a natural built in biology specific to the female sex regardless of species.
At every level they are mentally and hormonally equipped to cast a wary eye over every possibility that might affect their offspring including a presumed climate shift that might affect their offspring and therefore that very important continuation of the species which they, women are responsible for ensuring will continue on.
The male’s job biologically is to ensure that the genetic mix of the species is kept genetically roiling so as to prevent a genetic stagnation occurring leading to the eventual extinction of the species.
So the male amuses himself by competing with other males in any field you might like to describe using wits and force if he can’t glare/ stare down the opposition.
And so we come to science where the males are frequently in it to show they are much smarter than that other collection of males in that they have found or created something those other males can’t match or equal.
Presto!
We are therefore smarter and better rewarded than the dimwits over there and the males ego is temporarily sated.
And the womenfolk smile and look at one another and just role their eyes as life continues to revolve around them and the men just go on playing their little oh so serious games.

I suspect the difference between men and women in maths and physical sciences is that girls mature earlier and become more self conscious at an earlier age. You need that “don’t tell me, I’ll figure it out” attitude to get a deep understanding rather than rote learning.

My own long experience in flying, initially gliders then multiple fixed wing types and a little aerobatics highlighted some small but critical gender differences. Female instructors were generally considerably better. Their ego’s stayed out of the cockpit. They were methodical, made few assumptions and were always supportive in a learning context and were manifestly patient. I learned later that a study of gender accident rates in general aviation suggested a similar rate between males and females. Difference arose when considering cause. Apparently, control input (spatial judgement) became a more significant factor in the case of females whereas risk taking became a greater factor in males, the latter sometimes referred to as ‘go-itis’. It is this latter difference that may be important when considering climate.
If considering climageddon, females appear generally more risk averse than males. So, if you’re constantly being told the World will end before your grandchildren can make a mess of it, the female hardwired threat response is disposed to pay more attention to this politically manufactured threat. Real Males on the other hand may simply throw another lump of coal on the fire and role their eyes.
Perhaps eco-globalist climate propaganda is like quiche, real men just don’t do it.
20
I used to instruct in fly fishing some years ago and many of the clients were semi-retired and professional.I largely experienced a tendency for females to listen whereas the males would think “this is easy”. Yes and no. It usually related in the girls getting the fly on the water witha minimum amount of fuss and catching fish. Not good for the male ego I’m afraid.

‘Climate of the Nation 2014 finds that women are particularly concerned about the impact of climate change (60 per cent compared to 47 per cent of men) and are more likely to agree that climate change poses a serious threat to our way of life over coming decades (66 per cent vs 51 per cent of men).
‘Female sensitivity to the threat translates to most issues, from higher frequency of extreme weather events to a more polluted Australia.’

During the week there was a article in the Washington post ” why women are more religious than men ” , I can’t link to it because I’ve used up my free views and would have to subscribe , but it makes an interesting comparison with this story , also in my own experience it seems that women are more likely to be interested in reading their horoscopes

‘…women are more likely to be interested in reading their horoscopes.’
So a few of us set up a test to prove either way if this inexact science has any foundation. We isolated three individuals of the same sign (without their knowing) and took note of how things panned out.
After a couple of years of close scrutiny I’m forced to admit there maybe something in it, even though totally incomprehensible.

Funny thing, this climate change and women. You would not only find my wife as convinced as I am that it’s not real. You would find her just as outspoken and vocal as I am about what she thinks about it.
I guess it may be a situation that parallels the Animal Farm, “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others,” idea that goes about like this, “All women are afraid to speak out but some are less/more [choose whichever you want] afraid than others.” 😉
In other words, women don’t fit preconceived narrow classifications any more than men do.
It’s really nice and simple when you can pigeonhole everyone according to your own opinion and then dismiss everything else. But in the end, the world doesn’t work that way and as everyone gets more strident, more insistent that they alone know the truth, the less civil, less willing to give benefit of the doubt and less wiling to listen to the other guy we become. And that is the road downhill for civilization.
Maintaining civilization has always been an uphill fight at best. We don’t need to add fuel to the fire trying to bring us down. But we keep doing it anyway.

a dose of reality:
31 Mar: ReutersCarbonPulse: Mike Szabo: Second UK coal-fired power plant wins reprieve from closure
UK-based coal-fired power station Fiddler’s Ferry will remain open for an additional year after its owner utility SSE secured a contract to provide ancillary services to the country’s power grid, the second such plant to win a reprieve from closure in as many months.
One of the 2-gigawatt plant’s three units that were slated to close by the end of this month will now operate until at least Mar. 31, 2017, SSE announced late on Wednesday. No details of the agreement were provided…
The site’s fourth unit is also due to run until at least the end of next winter…
Britain’s Eggborough coal-fired power plant, which was also due to close this year, last month won a similar reprieve after signing a contract with National Grid to stay open for an additional year. Both power stations are among the 10 biggest-emitting installations in Britain…
SSE also confirmed that, following its success in securing this contract and “in view of the UK government’s current consultation on reforms to the capacity market”, the plant would participate in the UK’s capacity auctions for 2017-18…

30 Mar: CarbonBrief: Sophie Yeo: New coal plants rise in 2015 despite falling consumption
The analysis (LINK) by CoalSwarm, which includes researchers from Greenpeace and the Sierra Club, looks at the state of global coal over the last year…
But despite the fact that they are using less coal overall, the pace at which countries built new coal plants in 2015 was faster than it has been since 2011.
Since 2010, new plants have been constructed in 33 countries. China and India between them account for 85% of all new capacity. Seven regions and provinces of China each completed more new coal capacity between 2010 and 2015 than the entire US.
Globally, 473 gigawatts (GW) of new coal capacity was added between 2010 and 2015. The graphs below show where and when new capacity has been added…
Countries are not only constructing new coal in the present — they are also planning to construct huge volumes of new capacity in the future.
There is currently 1,086GW of new coal capacity in the pipeline, including projects that have been announced, that are being developed but have yet to receive permission, and those that already have permits. Another 338GW is under construction.
This 1,086GW is equivalent to around 1,500 new coal plants, which would emit 186 billion tonnes of CO2 over their expected lifetimes…

31 Mar: GWPF: The Times: Marcus Leroux: Britain On The Brink Of Blackouts For Four Winters
The former boss of one of Britain’s biggest energy suppliers has warned that the safety buffer separating Britain from power cuts will be uncomfortably slim for up to four years…
Paul Massara, a former chief executive of npower, warned yesterday that the tight supply would last for up to four winters, in contrast with rosier forecasts from the regulator that the safety buffer between capacity and peak electricity demand would begin to improve from 2017 onwards. Mr Massara said that new measures designed to lock in electricity generation would not kick in fully for several more years. Responding to the suggestion that the margin would be less tight after this year, he added: “I think it will be three or four winters.” …(LINK TO TIMES)

31 Mar: ClimateChangeNews: Ed King: France bars Tubiana bid for UN climate body
Respected envoy’s move to head Bonn-based outfit apparently quashed ‘last minute’ by environment minister Segolene Royal
The French government has refused to allow its top climate diplomat to apply to take over as the UN’s chief climate official, Climate Home understands.
Two sources with knowledge of the matter said Laurence Tubiana – one of the key architects of the 2015 Paris deal – had submitted her application for the role ahead of a 28 March deadline…
A French government source said no reasons had been offered for the refusal, and speculated the decision could have been as result of “personal” reasons.
According to a report in French newspaper Le Canard, France president Francois Holland had authorised the move before Royal’s “last moment” veto…
With Tubiana out of the field, Ban Ki-moon’s climate advisor Janos Pasztor is considered a favourite to replace Christiana Figueres as UN climate chief when she leaves in July…

31 Mar: ClimateChangeNews: Alex Pashley: Bloomberg climate risk initiative to release first report
A Financial Stability Board-led venture to coax companies into revealing their exposure to an overheating planet will publish preliminary findings on Friday, according to its head Mark Carney…
The report – prepared by a team of business leaders from the likes of Axa, Blackrock and Unilever – will give a “soft take on existing initiatives”, said Carney.
It will determine whether disclosure should be limited to publicly-listed companies, or private companies with shares, among other things…
“It’s both in the interest of issuers, but demanded by investors. I think that’s the standard this taskforce is trying to reach,” he said.

According to Pew surveys women are less likely to accept the scientific view of evolution, but now we see women are more likely to care about climate change. In the US at least, many try to link climate change and evolution as being accepted by anyone with a scientific reason based world view. Would love to see more on the gender split on such topics and hear explanations for such that had some consistency.
10
It would be useful if they left out the politics and concentrated only on the gender aspect. Men and women are wired differently for reasons of survival and it probably goes back to our ancestors scavenging for food on the Savannah.
I’ll follow up on the idea of what women think of evolution.
00
I do think people and views vary a lot based on wiring. Not just gender, but perhaps some of our political splits reflect different wiring as well in how we look at risks and benefits. I suspect that there is no overall superiority in one scheme or another, the different wiring schemes have their advantages and disadvantages in differing situations. That’s one reason I don’t trust any gender/ideology/political/sociological/demographic split on various issues across the board. I don’t think any can be right or wrong all the time (maybe some candidates are good at being wrong almost all the time).
Oversimplify this and one could argue that men are generally more logical, and logic supports evolution and a calmer appraisal of climate, explaining the gender split. Alternatively one could argue women are generally more nurturing and are more motivated to care for the planet and see greater “spiritual” connections that provided by evolution. In any case there is something other than than a difference driven by generic support for consensus science.
00
In the US Pew discovered that men are more inclined to believe in evolution, albeit by a modest margin.

Woman are not risk adverse otherwise they’d never work as cleaners or nurses or drivers- all dangerous and dirty jobs. More of them need more social validation and that’s from the loudest mouths that is green groups and climate activists. Just like politicians of all types of organisations, they need to told they are doing good.
00
This is why women care more about the climate:
“Conservative white males have disproportionately occupied positions of power within our economic system. Given the expansive challenge that climate change poses to the industrial capitalist economic system, it should not be surprising that conservative white males’ strong system-justifying attitudes would be triggered to deny climate change.”
Naomi Klein, 2011:
http://www.thenation.com/article/capitalism-vs-climate/
Since then, she’s added to her theory the idea that people from “the global south” get it better than northerners. So that means Joanne gets two points out of a possible three – and if she can find some aboriginal antecedents, all three.
