Brexit threatens Climate Gravy train — Paris agreement, life on Earth. Time for Clexit!

Brexit was seismic. Even Nature can see the threat — The UK was big promoter of Climate witchcraft, but it’s gone now:

Brexit might be an excuse for some EU countries to withhold their signature,” says Oliver Geden, head of the EU Research Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin.   Before the Paris talks, the EU had pledged to cut its greenhouse-gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030, relative to 1990 levels.

“The UK not being part of the negotiating mix means there is likely to be less pressure for ambitious targets and ensuring that the EU delivers on its Paris agreement commitments,” says Martin Nesbit, a policy expert at the Institute for European Environmental Policy in London.

But don’t relax, the Clexit movement is needed more than ever

Czech President Dr. Václav Klaus recognises this, and he Monckton, Morano, I and many others from 60 countries have joined the new Clexit movement started by Viv Forbes. Check it out. Brexit gave us a big advantage but we must press it home.

There are lots of reasons Paris may still succeed

The Paris agreement may appear to be struggling with just 22 tin-pot countries (sorry Norway) and 1% of man-made emissions signed up, but watch the pea. We all know if the emissions cuts were supposed to be same for every nation it would never get off the ground, but like the Paris UN convention, it’s all theater — the signing of the “agreement” was just for show. And many ratifications can be too. Not for the West, but for countries like India, China, or Russia — they can ratify their weak promises to do almost nothing. If they do, they will bring their 4%, 20% and 7% of human emissions under the Paris agreement umbrella which will cost those countries little, but be a major PR victory for the UN. It would inflict real pain on the Western nations stupid enough to sign and ratify, but most of the rest of the world would be agreeing to nothing much, and benefiting from competing with a hobbled West. Let’s shut down a few more factories in Birmingham, Adelaide or Austin.

China, India and Russia want to be bought off by the UN. View their protests now as a part of their negotiating ploys to wring more Pork. Few developing countries face much electoral backlash, and all of them have something to gain from the Climate Gravy Train. China, especially, has been getting rich on carbon credits for dams it was going to build, and factories that it made dirty just to get the credits for cleaning up.  And there are other non-climate playing cards that any of these countries could be bought off for — consider India, which says it will delay signing the deal, but really wants to get membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) saying: “An early positive decision by the NSG would have allowed us to move forward on the Paris Agreement.”

In other words with a big pot of UN pork up for grabs, the thing stopping the “ratification” of expensive energy and the collective hair-shirt of The West are western voters, specifically, US voters. If Hillary wins the only thing stopping the agreement will be the US congress.

The Paris climate deal is about politics and power, not the weather

The point of the Paris agreement is not to change world temperatures, or even to cut emissions of CO2, it’s to prop up the Green Industrial Complex of renewable-energy (worth $300b plus just in the EU), and the $2 Trillion global carbon trading schemes that financial houses stand to profit from. If the UN cared about CO2 emissions we all know they would choose the most cost effective way to reduce them (super critical coal, nuclear power, and programs like Direct Action which cost a mere $14/ton in reduction as opposed to the $50 – $120 per ton that wind “farms” cost.

If Greens cared about the environment they would care that carbon credits don’t cut carbon emissions, that no one counts emissions properly, and that corruption is rife. Everything about this is deceptive. The Paris Agreement is a treaty, even though it is not called one. It’s called “non-binding”, though it could bind real costs, but that was also important, so Obama (or Hillary) can ratify it without taking to to Congress.

Check out Clexit.

It’s high time the UN and EU were put on flimsy boats and pushed toward Antarctica, where they can keep themselves amused by carefully looking for dribbling icicles.

Sorry, but better to move the European political pollution to somewhere we can’t hear it and can do little harm.

The hesitation by some EU countries is that they put in a collective target but the UK had the biggest cuts proposed. Without the UK some of those countries will have.to make deeper cuts which won’t be popular.
And they have a problem with Poland which is determined to boost its economy by using the cheapest electricity i.e. Coal fired. More emissions that will need to be offset.

Nobody has ever tried to put “The forces of “termination with extreme prejudice” to the test, because nobody was big enough and committed enough. Now they will be put to the test, and watch the people who never before dared come out into the open.

If those forces have any trust in themselves, they will be on the attack tonight. That is their only chance, and I would rate it at Buckley’s. I think they would be shivering with fear.

meanwhile, executive action can still cause damage:

2 Aug: Washington Times: Valerie Richardson: Obama issues guidance making it tougher to build roads, bridges in name of climate change
The final guidance broadens the National Environmental Policy Act by requiring agencies to quantify the impact of activities that require federal permits not just on the environment but also on “projected direct and indirect GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions.”…
Republicans blasted the guidance as the latest in a flurry of President Obama’s end-of-term executive actions, led by the Clean Power Plan, arguing the guideline will further restrict economic development by weaving rules on climate change into federal regulations…
Myron Ebell, director of the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy and Environment, said NEPA is “already a nightmare” that has resulted in projects on both public and private lands being “delayed to death.”
“Requiring that the direct, indirect and cumulative climate impacts be included in an EIS means that the recommended option for most projects will be no action — that is, not to build it,” Mr. Ebell said. “The NEPA climate guidance document at a minimum adds another obstacle to building any major new project in this country from bridges to mines to housing and shopping developments.”
The guidance appears to undercut Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s proposal for a five-year, $275 billion infrastructure improvement plan, a cornerstone of her economic development package…
Even so, the announcement was cheered by environmentalists such as Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, who called the guidance a “game changer” on cutting off projects in the name of climate protection…
James Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican and chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, argued that the White House Council on Environmental Quality lacks the authority to issue the guidance, given that the panel has not had a Senate-confirmed chairman since February 2014…
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/aug/2/obama-make-it-tougher-build-roads-bridges-name-cli/

begins with plenty who come to praise Clinton:

2 Aug: USA Today: Gregg Zoroya/Doyle Rice: Clinton, Trump show stark contrast on climate change
“There’s never been a bigger contrast between the two candidates and the two platforms,” said Tiernan Sittenfeld, senior vice president of the League of Conservation Voters.
The Trump campaign issued a statement Tuesday decrying Clinton’s policy proposals on climate change as an “extreme, reckless anti-energy agenda … to appease radical donors (who) will destroy millions of jobs and force millions more into abject poverty.”…
He’s debunked climate science even though climate is likely the most thoroughly researched area on record, said Jeremy Symons, senior adviser with the Environmental Defense Action Fund…
Clinton’s campaign website has more than 30 pages of proposals for fighting climate change…
Those goals are “ambitious,” said (Kevin Curtis, executive director, Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund). “And we think that’s great. If she’s elected, we’ll be badgering her to do more.”…
Trump, by contrast, has promised to slash funding for the Environmental Protection Agency. Last week, he was asked on Fox News if global warming was caused by human activity, as most climate scientists say. “It could have a minor impact,” Trump said. “But nothing, nothing to what they’re talking about.”
The Sierra Club issued a paper on July 12 saying that if elected, Trump would be the only world leader who did not believe in the science of climate change…
Trump spokesman Jason Miller responded Tuesday, saying the Sierra Club “lobbies for the closure of American coal mines and celebrates the loss of countless, good-paying energy jobs for American workers.”…
The Democratic platform says climate change “is an urgent threat and a defining challenge of our time” and takes dire note of rising seas, brutal drought, “superstorms,” and multiplying wildfires. It argues that embracing clean energy technology will create “millions of new jobs” and cut home and business expenses…
The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, calls the Democratic platform “chock full of government actions that promise to initiate, broaden and extend the current set of rules, regulations, and orders seeking to reduce … our reliance on fossil fuels as our primary source of energy production,” according to a blog post on its website.
“A Democratic administration will seek a further expansion of the reach of the federal government into our daily lives,” the institute said…

I know I’ve mentioned this before but reference it now to where Joanne writes this in the text: (my bolding here)

If Greens cared about the environment they would care that carbon credits don’t cut carbon emissions, that no one counts emissions properly, and that corruption is rife. Everything about this is deceptive.

The maths behind all of this is also deceptive.

Consider that China and India most probably will not sign, or even if they do, their CO2 emissions will rise, almost exponentially.

As their emissions rise on that huge scale, then the overall World emissions total also rises by a large amount.

So, effectively, a Signatory Country need do nothing at all in respect of lowering their emissions, and because the whole of World total has risen considerably, then that Country has a lesser percentage of the total, so they can say that their emissions percentage is lowering, on a year by year basis.

It’s already happened here in Australia, as our total with respect to percentage has gone down, and yet we are emitting more CO2.

Even those large scale emitters who do sign up will have an effective lowering of their percentage.

And I mean, who out there in the public has enough Maths skills (or for that matter, even cares) to notice this little trick, based wholly in fact.

    Tony.

      Tony,
Every engineer with more than 3 years experience has the math skills, to understand that everything turns out to be exponential or more complex. Ever the narrow range linear is exponential with exponent of one. Almost all of these do care, would like to help, but feel helpless against the orchestrated onslaught from the greedy few!
Perhaps it is time to put then arrogant academics in white lab coats, brandishing peer reviewed papers down so hard they never get up again. Start over again with those that have demonstrated that they both learn and can do, rather than merely writing about what others should do!

Yes, but. How many engineers are out there? And how many others with maths training? Deduct from those those whose jobs depend on toeing (all please note and pass on that there is no “w” in toeing) a particular line, also the many who do have the training but don’t have the skills, then those who are not interested, and you will understand Tony’s by line.

Brexit it seems is the trigger that will lead to the “break up of the EU” and ultimately lead to Clexit. Most smart nations know this and would be insane to commit to the Paris Agreement. The greatest con (in monetary terms) in human history – “the Theory of AGW” & “rapid fast-tracking to RE” – is about to disintegrate – if it doesn’t soon then we have the imminent “GM/LIA” to deliver the decisive killer blow.

The Chinese are even more cunning. While promising solemnly to do absolutely nothing until 2030 when their output of CO2 will naturally peak anyway, they are asking to be compensated for ‘historical’ pollution so gleefully admitted by the West.

In their reasonable view if the West had not willfully increased CO2 by 50% since 1900, there would be no problem, so China wants compensation.

That’s the problem when simple combustion is made out to be a criminal act and you admit to it and claim responsibility for the damage. You stand convicted by your own evidence. The Chinese reserve the right firstly to pollute at least as much without paying anything and also want compensation for your willful damage to the planet. Neat. The world’s biggest ‘polluter’ is officially victim. The NIMBY types in South Australia would approve. They will soon have the lowest CO2 in the world.

Lord Monckton is widely consulted by governments on climate issues. He has discussed the subject with President Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic, who accepted his invitation to participate in a climate conference at Cambridge University in May 2011. Lord Monckton has twice spoken before representatives of the Chinese Government, one of whom asked for copies of his papers on climate sensitivity for forwarding to the administration in Peking, saying that his research conclusions to the effect that manmade global warming would be small enough to do little harm had major implications for China. Lord Monckton has also prepared a brief on the climate for Canada’s Prime Minister.

In the audio Interesting talk about Russia and climate change @ 8.20 to 11.45, Tony Abbot/Malcolm Turnbull are mentioned @ 13.38, it’s worth a listen.

It’s a funny old world, greenies are demonstrably the greatest threat to the environment, just as socialism is the greatest threat to workers’ economic health.

The economic cost of greenie policies is only now being realised, and if you voluntarily rape and pillage the economy with utterly pointless carbon credits and expensive, unreliable renewable energy, then there will be no economic resources left with which to ‘save the planet’. The fact that socialism destroys workers’ economic health has been proven conclusively many times over by the events of history. Some might call this, The Law of Unintended Consequences.

Clexit would destroy the global warming industry, the Climate Inquisition and the noisy environmental activist groups. Would we miss them? Answer: No, not at all, but unscrupulous smug politicians live off: i) “the need for change”, ii) the addiction of being seen to be “saving the planet”, and iii) peddling trendy ideals appealing to younger voters, not yet cynical or experienced enough to see through their shallow promises.

So the battle for Clexit will not be easy and definitely made harder if Hilary Clinton wins the White House.

Sadly, I believe for Clexit to win quickly, several hundreds of thousands may first have to die unnecessarily in Northern Hemisphere winters to ram home the fact that renewable energy is useless when slow moving high pressure systems are dominant in December, January and February. Giving priority selling rights to green energy producers has resulted in the early closure of far too many reliable, cheap energy producing conventional power stations. If the UK has another winter like 1963, then the lessons of green stupidity will be harshly learned.

Scotland will almost certainly be the first NH grid to collapse in their coming winter having closed their last coal plant Longannet back in March. It will be a race between Scotland and South Australia (having closed its last coal plant in May) to see which grid fails first out of the 2.

I still expect the first really large grid blackout to be California, due to the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility being unavailable in combination with the summer heat and the growing duck curve from solar PV demand reduction.

a telling tale from the State of Washington…not DC:

2 Aug: Fox News: In twist, environmentalists fight proposed carbon tax – because it doesn’t grow gov’t
The turn of events has highlighted a curious aspect of the environmentalist coalition in the region: as much as these groups want to fight carbon emissions, they also want to make sure the money from any carbon tax is used primarily to boost the government’s clean-energy programs.
The Sierra Club, on its website, sums up its opposition this way: “Revenues from its [I-732’s] carbon tax would not be invested in ramping up jobs in clean fuels infrastructure or energy efficiency.”
Their sticking point is that Bauman’s plan, to the contrary, is designed to be revenue-neutral.
The tax would start out at $25 per ton and rise each year until hitting a cap of $100 a ton. Initially, it is projected to add 25 cents to the cost of every gallon of gasoline, increase air fares and raise utility bills — costing $2 billion a year. But this would be offset by cutting the state’s sales tax by 1 percent, lowering taxes for 400,000 working-class families and eliminating a tax on businesses that manufacture in Washington.
A similar system has been in place in British Columbia for eight years. Independent studies report a 16 percent drop in carbon emissions and no major hit to the economy.

Bauman, defending the proposal in its current form, said his goal was not to grow the size of government, so he made the measure revenue-neutral…
But one environmental group broke ranks with long-time allies. The Audubon Society is supporting the measure.
“I think for us, I-732 isn’t about money,” said Gail Gatton, executive director of Audubon Society Washington State. “It really is about what are the market-based incentives that will drive people to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Gatton told Fox News she cannot remember another time when the Audubon Society was at odds with the Sierra Club and other green groups in the state…
“They’re more afraid of tax cuts,” said Todd Myers, an analyst with Washington Policy Center. “They only want a government solution, and so they’re willing to destroy an effort that would actually reduce carbon emissions, make us more energy efficient, because they care more about government than climate change.”

totally amazing that LA Times would carry an Op-Ed by Justin Raimondo of Antiwar.com (great, although tragic, website), who describes himself as a “conservative-paleo-libertarian”. includes lots of examples:

2 Aug: LA Times: Justin Raimondo: Op-Ed: To fight Trump, journalists have dispensed with objectivity
(Justin Raimondo is the editorial director of Antiwar.com and the author of “Reclaiming the American Right: The Lost Legacy of the Conservative Movement.”)
Why are the rules of journalism being rewritten this election year?
My local newspaper, the Sonoma County Press-Democrat, is so clearly in the tank for Hillary Clinton that I no longer take pleasure in my morning read. Trump’s acceptance speech, for example, was covered on the front page with two stories: on the left a straight, albeit somewhat judgmental, account of the speech, and on the right a “fact check” that disputed every point made by the GOP nominee. Clinton’s speech was covered with three front page stories, with headlines describing her nomination as “historic,” “inspiring” and “trailblazing.” A relatively mild fact-checking piece was relegated to the back pages.
This transparent bias is a ***national phenomenon, infecting both print and television media to such an extent that it has become almost impossible to separate coverage of the Trump campaign from attempts to tear it down…
The irony is that the media’s Trump bashing may wind up having the exact opposite of its intended effect.
Polls shows that journalism is one of the least respected professions in the country, and with Trump calling out media organizations for their bias, widespread slanted reporting is bound to reinforce this point — and to backfire. Trump’s campaign is throwing down the gauntlet to the political class. If journalists are seen as the mouthpiece of that class, they may soon find themselves covering Trump’s inauguration.

So, what has the UN achieved?

Time, Oct. 23, 2015; 5 United Nations Achievements Worth Celebrating on U.N. Day:

The United Nations Charter first took effect on Oct. 24, 1945 — and, since 1948, that day has been marked as United Nations Day.

It will surely be used as an occasion to celebrate the U.N. and its values: spreading democracy, promoting peace, combating world hunger and other sweeping noble missions.

5 United Nations Achievements Worth Celebrating on U.N. Day –

    . Saving the Pyramids
    . Eradicating Smallpox
    . Protecting the Ozone
. Helping Save the Lives of 90 Million Children
    . Promoting Arms Control
    . . .
Whether or not the United Nations has achieved these “noble causes”, it’s time is up when it thinks it can “save the planet”.

While I absolutely think it is the right thing for the UK, it will involve a certain amount of trauma, possibly a lot. People will wonder what they were shoved into (even if they voted for it). I like to think Brexit will clear a few heads over renewables but only because they realise we won’t have money to burn which is not exactly a good thing. So far there’s no sign of common sense.

The strangest thing I saw after the Brexit vote was a teenager having a tantrum that oldies (who’ve known a lot more hardship and lot less luxury than her generation) had ruined her plans to have an extended holiday in Australia (that famous EU country that is doing so well) because her savings were worth nothing. So she whined from Glastonbury that notoriously expensive drunken mudbath. It’s embarassing that our ‘colonies’ (written for comic effect, nobody thinks about the empire here anymore) have so much more self respect and drive… although you do realise that entering the Eurovision Song Contest is part of a slippry slope.

While there is an overlap in reasons for wanting to reduce profilgate EU spending and climate change pointless wastefuness, I’d let each stand alone.

Monbiot has been on an anti-Brexit binge for a while; but he’s back with the “climate crisis” the media won’t report on!

3 Aug: Guardian: George Monbiot: The climate crisis is already here – but no one’s telling us
The media largely relegate the greatest challenge facing humanity to footnotes as industry and politicians hurtle us towards systemic collapse of the planet.
If you blinked you would have missed the reports, but perhaps the most striking aspect of the Democratic platform (the party’s manifesto) approved in Philadelphia last week was its position on climate change. Hillary Clinton’s campaign now promises a national and global mobilisation “on a scale not seen since World War II”. She will seek to renegotiate trade deals to protect the living world, to stop oil drilling in the Arctic and Atlantic, and to ensure the US is “running entirely on clean energy by mid-century”…
To judge by one bizarre paragraph, the Democrats believe they can solve climate change by expanding roads and airports. It boasts about record sales in the car industry and promises to cut “red tape”, which is the term used by corporate lobbyists for the public protections they hate…
Donald Trump, on the other hand – well, what did you expect? Climate change is a “con-job” and a “hoax” that was “created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive”. His manifesto reads like a love letter to the coal industry…
But the coverage was, for the most part, relegated to footnotes, while the evanescent trivia of the conventions led the bulletins and filled the front pages. There are many levels of bias in the media, but the most important is the bias against relevance…
To pretend that newspapers and television channels are neutral arbiters of such matters is to ignore their place at the corrupt heart of the establishment. At the US conventions, to give one small example, the Washington Post, the Atlantic and Politico were paid by the American Petroleum Institute to host a series of discussions, at which climate science deniers were represented…
The problem begins with the industry that, wittingly or otherwise, grants them this licence: the one for which I work.
    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/aug/03/climate-crisis-media-relegates-greatest-challenge-hurtle-us-collapse-planet

28 Jul: Guardian: Oliver Milman: Oil and gas industry events ‘polluting’ Democratic convention, say activists
A series of events sponsored by the oil and gas industry are “polluting” the Democratic national convention with climate denialism and should be boycotted by leading Democrats, according to environmentalists.
The American Petroleum Institute (API) has underwritten five events hosted in Philadelphia during the convention by media organizations Politico and the Atlantic.
The events, which promote API’s Vote4Energy campaign, provide delegates and other attendees with literature and signage extolling the benefits of oil and gas drilling…
The group (Climate Hawks Vote) said it was disappointed the Atlantic and Politico had accepted the lobby group’s money…
Politico and the Atlantic also held API-sponsored events at the Republican national convention in Cleveland last week. According to the Intercept, the Washington Post also hosted a climate event, in which Republican congresswoman Marsha Blackburn claimed the world was “cooling down”…
Neither Politico nor the Atlantic would disclose how much API paid for the sponsorships…
Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters: “Donald Trump would be a disaster for the climate, we can’t let that happen. We will either have a climate change champion or a climate change denier as president. The stakes are that high. I’d argue they’ve never been higher.”

3 Aug: HuffPo: Casey Williams: Proof That Trump Cares More About Coal Money Than Coal Miners
Donald Trump’s back in coal country. And he’s spinning the same myths about environmental regulation that helped him woo Rust Belt voters during the primaries.
Speaking Monday in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the Republican presidential nominee suggested that, if elected, he would bar government regulators from inspecting coal mines. Environmental protections, he said, have so battered the coal industry that his mine-owning buddies “can’t eat.”…
Such rules do have some effect on the industry, but claims that they’re responsible for coal’s demise are overblown…
What’s more, environmental regulations save lives. The 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act, for instance, will have saved 4.2 million people and prevented tens of millions of cases of pollution-related illness by 2020, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council…
The truth is that the coal industry has largely dug its own grave…
Demand for coal has also taken a hit thanks to the rapid growth of the natural gas and renewable energy industries in the U.S…
Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

pro-Trumpers on forums were shocked by this poll this morning but, apparently, it DOESN’T EVEN EXIST – A STEP FURTHER THAN THE RETEURS’ MANIPULATED POLL!
    full of anti-Trump rhetoric nonetheless:

2 Aug: WaPo The Fix: Philip Bump: That poll showing Clinton leading in Utah? It doesn’t exist.
This, I suspect, is part of the reason that people have seized on a report from a Salt Lake City CBS affiliate about a new poll in the deep-red state of Utah. The surprising/exciting finding? Hillary Clinton has a 1-point lead in the state.
Imagine that! Utah going blue for the first time since 1964. Now that’s the sort of thing that we’d expect to see in this bizarre, wacky year…
The KUTV report indicates that Clinton gets 36 percent of support to 35 percent from Trump — leaving 29 percent of the electorate going somewhere else…
So what does Johnson get in that new poll that kicked this whole thing off? Well, we don’t know — because the KUTV report is the only mention of it online.
The Salt Lake Tribune doesn’t have a story about a new poll at its website. The Hinckley Institute at the University of Utah doesn’t have any mention of it either. In an email to The Washington Post, the Tribune’s Dan Harrie confirmed that there in fact wasn’t a new survey from the paper. He speculated that KUTV was simply picking up a convention post-mortem the paper ran over the weekend — though there’s no reference to a 36-35 result…
Update: KUTV has corrected its article. It was referring to the June poll mentioned above…
A lot of crazy stuff has happened over the past year. Granted. But that doesn’t mean that something this crazy is necessarily in the cards.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/02/that-poll-showing-clinton-leading-in-utah-it-doesnt-exist/
    from comments:
smba: This article is pretty good for change, it’s not unadulterated Hillary worship.
Steak Farmer: Somehow the WAPO will decide Trump get 4 Pinocchios for this and Clinton will be the victim.

[Pat, Since you quote the HuffPo I can approve this.

YEAH – some globull warming AT LAST.

      Thanks for letting us know.

We’ve had a really crappy, cold winter here in Sydney this year and I’m looking forward to a few degrees warmer becoming the norm. I have little time and even less sympathy for anyone who thinks that a few degrees colder “climate” and less CO2 is good for humans and the planet. I also have ZERO respect for warmists who can’t/won’t engage in a scientific debate!!!!

      Cheers,

Good grief. I forgot to panic when I should have. How could I have ignored records broken by temperatures so high that the differences from the previous highs have to be described as greater than 0.1° C, a whole whopping 0.18° F.

I’ll have to sit all day in sackcloth and ashes as penance.

When it’s already 100° F to begin with (had a couple this summer), how can we survive 100.18°? It changes hot into a killer. We’ll surely perish from the heat.

Or maybe we’ll all die laughing. I’m not sure which.

Why not simply UNexit (or NOUN).

      Don’t I wish !!!!

It would be a red letter day if the whole western world would, en mass, abandon the UN to it’s inevitable financial failure for their “friendly” attempts to undermine our respective countries, our governments, our institutions and our very way of life. We ought instead to be thanked for paying their bills. But hey, no one is perfect.

There is no organization I would like more to be rid of than the monster the UN has become. They can take their IPCC, Agenda-21, human rights commission run by North Korea and a lot of other meddlesome things and put them where there’s no sunlight.

          I’m afraid to ask.

But hey, maybe there’s some improvement, 2030 is at least greater than 21. That should mean something good. At least they can do simple arithmetic at the UN and keep incrementing their numbers.

But like the curious fool that I am, I looked. At least the Pope will be there to add his blessing. And at least now no one can deny that the UN fancies itself to be THE GOVERNMENT OF THE WORLD, qualified to tell us all how to live, right down to when we can take a leak I should think.

          • #
            Roy Hogue

Will their Agenda-2030 also tell us exactly how many years we’re allowed to live? And don’t bet that it won’t, no, no, no, no… …and no. It won’t come out until they have a firm grip on everyone. But then…

Actually, I have to disagree. Rudd would have just tried to impose his will from on high, probably citing his Australian citizenship as giving him a right to be PM in absentia, or emperor at least. Just think of all the stupid and destructive treaties he could devise to impose on us – just because he’s Kevin, he’s from Queensland, and he believes he’s “here to help” and really has the right to dictate to us as SG of the UN.

For sure he would have TRIED. But it is almost certain Rudd would have FAILED to get anything done. His
schizophrenic management style and favouritism would have had most of the bureaucracy up in arms and as a result of lack of instantaneous results, he would have gone postal and set the faithful remainder on vendettas to exact revenge, tearing the place to bits.

            Opportunity lost… 🙁

Speaking as Brit – and one who voted for Brexit with no expectation of victory (how great was that?) – I can tell you that our airwaves have been filled with crying academics berating the democratic will of the people of the UK for voting to leave the EU. I just got this list in an email. You might apply local knowledge?

“Brexit-From a Brit in South East England

This might interest some…..there are always two sides to a pancake I hear said.

      Don’t blame England for leaving!!!!

Just for info for those who were wondering what it was all about? From an expatriate Brit!
A short list of financial and industrial FUBARs from the EU..
. Cadbury moved factory to Poland 2011 with EU grant.

      · Ford Transit moved to Turkey 2013 with EU grant.

      · Jaguar Land Rover has recently agreed to build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, the same company who have trashed our steel works and emptied the workers’ pension funds.

      · Peugeot closed its Ryton (was Rootes Group) plant and moved production to Slovakia with EU grant.

      · British Army’s new Ajax fighting vehicles to be built in SPAIN using SWEDISH steel at the request of the EU to support jobs in Spain with EU grant, rather than Wales .

      · Dyson gone to Malaysia , with an EU loan.

      · Crown Closures, Bournemouth (Was METAL BOX), gone to Poland with EU grant, once employed 1,200.

      · M&S manufacturing gone to the far east with EU loan.

      · Hornby models gone. In fact all toys and models now gone from UK along with the patents all with EU grants.

      · Gillette gone to eastern Europe with EU grant.

      · Texas Instruments Greenock gone to Germany with EU grant.

      · Indesit at Bodelwyddan Wales gone with EU grant.

      · Sekisui Alveo said production at its Merthyr Tydfil Industrial Park foam plant will relocate production to Roermond in the Netherlands , with EU funding.

      · Hoover Merthyr factory moved out of UK to Czech Republic and the Far East by Italian company Candy with EU backing.

      · ICI integration into Holland ’s AkzoNobel with EU bank loan and within days of the merger, several factories in the UK , were closed, eliminating 3,500 jobs.

      · Boots sold to Italians Stefano Pessina who have based their HQ in Switzerland to avoid tax to the tune of £80 million a year, using an EU loan for the purchase.

      · JDS Uniphase run by two Dutch men, bought up companies in the UK with £20 million in EU ‘regeneration’ grants, created a pollution nightmare and just closed it all down leaving 1,200 out of work and an environmental clean-up paid for by the UK tax-payer. They also raided the pension fund and drained it dry.

      · UK airports are owned by a Spanish company.

      · Scottish Power is owned by a Spanish company.

      · Most London buses are run by Spanish and German companies.

      · The Hinkley Point C nuclear power station to be built by French company EDF, part owned by the French government, using cheap Chinese steel that has catastrophically failed in other nuclear installations. Now EDF say the costs will be double or more and it will be very late even if it does come online.

      · Swindon was once our producer of rail locomotives and rolling stock. Not any more, it’s Bombardier in Derby and due to their losses in the aviation market, that could see the end of the British railways manufacturing altogether even though Bombardier had EU grants to keep Derby going which they diverted to their loss-making aviation side in Canada.

      · 39% of British invention patents have been passed to foreign companies, many of them in the EU.

      · The Mini cars that Cameron stood in front of as an example of British engineering, are built by BMW mostly in Holland and Austria.

      · His campaign bus was made in Germany even though we have Plaxton, Optare, Bluebird, Dennis etc., in the UK .

      · The bicycle for the Greens was made in the far east, not by Raleigh UK but then they are probably going to move to the Netherlands too as they have said recently.

      · Anyone who thinks the EU is good for British industry or any other business simply hasn’t paid attention to what has been systematically asset-stripped from the UK .

      · Name me one major technology company still running in the UK.

      · We used to contract out to many, then the work just dried up as they were sold off to companies from France , Germany , Holland , Belgium , etc., and now we don’t even teach electronic technology for technicians any more, due to EU regulations

I haven’t detailed our non-existent fishing industry the EU paid to destroy, nor the farmers being paid NOT to produce food they could sell for more than they get paid to do nothing, don’t even go there.

I haven’t mentioned what it costs us to be asset-stripped like this, nor have I mentioned immigration, nor the risk to our security if control of our armed forces is passed to Brussels or Germany.

Find something that’s gone the other way, I’ve looked and I just can’t.

Still want to stay? Well it must be some consolation that you have Boris Johnson to negotiate in Europe on your behalf.

And of course, the real deal-breaker…. Democracy, transparency and independence.

We can vote out our MPs – BUT the European Commission who dictate 55% of UK laws, which are legally binding, are….. guess what, untouchable, unelected and hidden from view.

In the long term, this statement is absolutely true. Enough investment into renewable energy will destroy economies through direct costs and the destruction of reliable electrical supplies. This will lead to deindustrialization which will lower fossil fuel usage, lowering the urban heat island effect which lowers the measured Global Warming.

South Australia is an front stage demonstration of how this strategy is succeeding.

    Democracy Sucks!

‘New Science Minister Greg Hunt has ordered a major U-turn in the direction of the CSIRO, reviving climate research as a bedrock function just months after the national science agency slashed climate staff and programs.

‘Mr Hunt, the former environment minister, told Fairfax Media he has instructed CSIRO’s executives and board to “put the focus back on climate science”, adding: “This is not an optional component, it’s critical”.

I like Olaf’s concept of ” political pollution ” up the top.

The general public could have a new and timely point of focus for ideas and concepts of political aberrations that are not in the best interests of all.

Linking the nonsense of Climate Change to the absolute failure of the U.N. in so many areas would be very educational for most people who only catch the 30 second sound bite trumpeting the latest U.N. bit of advancement towards sainthood.

One example of the things we need to know about the U.N. is the large, unchecked death toll from genocides in Africa and Europe where the U.N.was either powerless to act or indifferent to the massive loss of life.

I understand that many of the ‘blue helmets’ on the ground in these situations were far from indifferent, and likely will (and have) suffer from numerous psychological issues for life, as a result.

Combat might have (does have) detrimental effects, but the inability to intervene must be absolute hell.

It is true that some people, and roles within the UN have an awful lot to answer for.

Yes James, fully agree. I think it was the Dutch soldiers who were forced to listen to the ongoing execution of prisoners during the Balkans war.

Then there is Africa where enormous death tolls barely raise an eyebrow at U.N. HQ; these people whose only crime is to have been in the way of some potentate or dictator.

I just love the term Political Pollution because it gives a focal point for an all out attack on corrupt and manipulative politics.

In other words with a big pot of UN pork up for grabs, the thing stopping the “ratification” of expensive energy and the collective hair-shirt of The West are western voters, specifically, US voters.

I have never seen anything like the current propaganda effort in my lifetime. The MSM are relentlessly attacking Trump 24-7. Every minute of everyday we get nothing but how awful Trump is. Benghazi, hacked e-mails, criminal international bribes and treason, paying hundreds of millions for hostages, arms to terrorists… and on and on and on.. don’t matter. Instead we get Trump allegedly is worse than anybody ever, as they blow something they say he said out of all proportion.

There is that much at stake here: The Supreme Court for the next generation at least, the very existence of the Constitution as the foundation document and the very rule of law, the continued ascendancy of the huge bureaucracy and government agency power, and of course the massive gravy train of government supported jobs at all levels.

Brexit scared the heck out of the MSM and the establishment. But if they can prove that they can still control the hearts and minds of the people through propaganda then they will cement their tyrannical strangle hold on the nation and the world.

Go Clexit! but I find they are down playing the climate issues to keep it out of the sight and minds of the people. Out of sight-out of mind. Hillary said she would finish the job of killing coal, and shut down all the remaining coal power generation. People don’t know the costs, and won’t get correct information from the press. Most people bought Obama’s one line answer to the unreal ism of renewables to paraphrase: “Yes we can; we put a man on the moon so we can stop using fossil fuels too.” It is a lot easier for the uninformed to remember a slogan like that, even if it’s a lie, than it is to understand the true science and the economics of such complexity.

2 Aug: PLOS ONE: Big Data Sensors of Organic Advocacy: The Case of Leonardo DiCaprio and Climate Change
Authors: Eric C. Leas (University of California San Diego School of Medicine), Benjamin M. Althouse, Mark Dredze (Bloaomberg), Nick Obradovich, James H. Fowler, Seth M. Noar, Jon-Patrick Allem, John W. Ayers
    Abstract
In some cases this “organic advocacy” may rival or even eclipse top-down strategies…
To demonstrate this claim we evaluated how Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2016 Oscar acceptance speech citing climate change motivated global English language news (Bloomberg Terminal news archives), social media (Twitter postings) and information seeking (Google searches) about climate change. Despite an insignificant increase in traditional news coverage (54%; 95%CI: -144 to 247), tweets including the terms “climate change” or “global warming” reached record highs, increasing 636% (95%CI: 573–699) with more than 250,000 tweets the day DiCaprio spoke. In practical terms the “DiCaprio effect” surpassed the daily average effect of the 2015 Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Earth Day effect by a factor of 3.2 and 5.3, respectively. At the same time, Google searches for “climate change” or “global warming” increased 261% (95%CI, 186–335) and 210% (95%CI 149–272) the day DiCaprio spoke and remained higher for 4 more days, representing 104,190 and 216,490 searches. This increase was 3.8 and 4.3 times larger than the increases observed during COP’s daily average or on Earth Day. Searches were closely linked to content from Dicaprio’s speech (e.g., “hottest year”), as unmentioned content did not have search increases (e.g., “electric car”). Because these data are freely available in real time our analytical strategy provides substantial lead time for experts to detect and participate in organic advocacy while an issue is salient. Our study demonstrates new opportunities to detect and aid agents of change and advances our understanding of communication in the 21st century media landscape…
Funding: The authors received no specific funding for this work. Bloomberg LP provided support in the form of salaries for authors [MD], but did not have any additional role in the study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript.
    Materials & methods:
Evaluating changes in traditional news and social media relied on daily trends for global news articles from the Bloomberg Terminal using the {NT GO} function (bloomberg.com/professional) and postings on Twitter…

3 Aug: Newsweek: Oliver Milman: Climate Change Created Shocking Environmental Records in 2015
(This story was originally published by The Guardian and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration)
The world is careening towards an environment never experienced before by humans, with the temperature of the air and oceans breaking records, sea levels reaching historic highs and carbon dioxide surpassing a key milestone, a major international report has found.
The “state of the climate” report (LINK), led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) with input from hundreds of scientists from 62 countries, confirmed there was a “toppling of several symbolic mileposts” in heat, sea level rise and extreme weather in 2015.
“The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle,” Michael Mann, a leading climatologist at Penn State, told the Guardian. “They are playing out before us, in real time. The 2015 numbers drive that home.”…
The peer-reviewed series is published annually by the American Meteorological Society.

3 Aug: Phys.org: Images in climate change stories spur readers to action
We’re more likely to engage in environmentally friendly behaviours if we read media stories about climate change that include images of renewable energy, a new University of Michigan study found.
Images, such as solar panels, and text highlighting actions that can be taken to address climate change can increase our sense of efficacy to address the issue, researchers said…
The findings appear in Science Communication.

VIDEO: 3 Aug: Daily Caller: Michael Bastasch: Watch As This Obama-Backed Solar Plant INCINERATES Birds, Bugs
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) released video footage showing how the intense heat generated by the Ivanpah solar plant incinerates thousands of birds and bats.
“At Ivanpah, evidence of flying animals impacted by intense heat near the solar towers had been observed,” according to new USGS research. “The new study showed that although birds and bats were occasionally seen near the towers at Ivanpah, most observations involved insects.”…
Researchers said only 15 birds were affected by the flux in more than 700 hours of filming…
A recent study found Ivanpah killed 6,185 birds in 2015, including about 1,145 that were burned up in the plant’s solar flux. Ivanpah has also been known to blind airline pilots flying over Southern California’s desert…
The Energy Department put up $1.6 billion in loan guarantees to fund the $2.2 billion solar project, which is co-owned by NRG Energy and Google.

More money to be spent on CSIRO personnel to research climate change, but no audit to be conducted at the Bureau of Meteorology into the admitted to be errors and omissions in media releases about the hottest days, weeks, years, etc.

Meanwhile the economy is below trend, public debt is increasing as governments borrow to spend as taxation revenue declines and once identified budget repairs needed are all but ignored, the repairs set out in the Abbott led Coalition Treasurer Hockey 2014/15 Budget pushed aside.

And even more worrying is that Union controlled Labor would be far worse and they created most of the problems and handed them over in 2013, and in their creatively accounted flawed Budget 2013/14.

Just watched most of Malcolm Roberts presser on ABC24 before they switched to DeNatale. Fortunately, SkyNews showed the balance of the press conference. Quite an impressive performance for a new entrant to the national stage (I particularly liked the Flannery smackdown near the end). Well no, not entirely. They both believe things about climate which are not true.

e.g. #1 He does not understand basic radiative transfer theory: http://joannenova.com.au/2014/04/weekend-unthreaded-32/#comment-1420073
Roberts’ nom-de-plume on this forum is “truthseeker”, so now you can find out what he thinks about global warming without waiting for him to say it officially in the Senate.

e.g. #2 He believes human activity has had virtually no effect on CO2 levels and never mentions the implications of conservation of mass:
          http://www.climate.conscious.com.au/docs/new/4_AppendixBasicQuestions.pdf page 23.

Although he wants to take the right actions in the Senate, the problem with Mr Roberts is that his reasoning is false so he won’t make many converts from amongst the educated.

Nonetheless I agree it would certainly make great television to see Roberts versus Flannery in a debate about global warming. Flammery would be flummoxed.

Brexit sent a message around the world. A good message, full of hope against adversity for anyone even marginally to the right – and a terrifying message to the belligerent left who, for so long, took being in control, running everything (schools, universities, government and media) for granted.

Anyone, anywhere in the world can have their ‘Brexit Moment’; they just have to mobilise their supporters to go out and actually vote. I was surprised (and underestimated) just how many others there were here in the UK just like me; fed up, ignored, patronised, belittled and finally abused, who felt strongly enough about the situation to make the effort to get our votes recorded.

After the result was announced leftists were in tears everywhere. Will Self was on Channel 4 absolutely incandescent with rage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9tcVBsxK30

    🙂

How could it all have gone so wrong for them? The EU referendum was, after all, theirs for the winning; ours for the losing. Everyone said so. The BBC said so. The bottom-feeding ‘experts’ said so. Even Nigel Farage ‘conceded’ defeat on the eve of the vote.

Soon, enraged young people were blaming anyone over 45 for ‘stealing their future’ from them. Nobody mentioned the fact that young people overwhelmingly failed to turn out and vote for what they claim they wanted. Oops. Never mind; hugs ‘n’ feels, everyone.

I’ve enjoyed – and still am enjoying – the Brexit. What an unexpected delight. I voted for something I fully expected to lose (as usual) and – by some actual miracle of democracy – I actually won.

    Amazing.
