India to more than double coal mining by 2020

Good news. India plans to add more fertilizer to the global air which will help feed the world. There is no charge.

India will become the world’s number 2 miner of coal by 2020, overtaking the US.  There are plans to ramp up from mining 634 million tons to 1.5 billion metric tons by 2020. That’s only 3 years away. China’s total coal use doesn’t even fit on this graph. As best as anyone can guess, China uses 3.7 billion ton each year.

How’s that ground breaking, world leading Paris agreement going?

Coal Mining India, China, Australia, 2016, Graph

Australia is the worlds largest coal exporter but our total exports of coal in 2014/15 were a tiny 393Mt (of both thermal and metallurgical coal). I’ve marked that in blue on the graph. We are only a large exporter because everyone else keeps the coal for their own use.

 More mining of India’s coal,
Fills another significant role,
That of plant-food increase,
By CO2 release,
Which should really be all mankind’s goal.

Interesting how other countries think of their own needs before the rest of the worlds.

We should be withholding substantial amounts for our own use in factories and power stations.

It’s very obvious South Australia could do with some of it.

In the REAL world though I do predict the Paris agreement folding like proverbial paper very shortly – neither China OR India will have a bar of restrictions on their growth.

    Cheers,

India’s consumption seems to lager than their production. I assume that they import Coal, as well as Uranium.

It seems they have been importing from Indonesia, but now they are seeking out quality over quantity.

Nice move: the more they “intended” to burn the more carbon credits and money they can claim from the Green Slush Fund when they “cut back” from what would have done if it were not for the need to “save the planet”.

Always very good at bartering, the Indians.

“but now they are seeking out quality over quantity”

That’s why they wanted the Adani/Carmichael mine in Queensland.

Indonesia has removed over 100Mt of production recently, due to arguments over lease ownerships (I’m told).

Whatever the real reason for this, and one can be sure that it’s hardball, 100Mtpa is a significant loss of seaborne trade, let alone the quality aspects.

Indonesia does not produce coking coal. India’s coal mines are in the far north ( and is not very good quality being high ash). It is more economical for Indian power stations and private companies such as cement works in the south of the country to import steam coal from Indonesia and from South Africa. India has some coals with coking properties but they are high ash and can not be used solely for steel making. Most of the coal imported to India is coking coal mainly from Queensland. Qld has now approved the Adani mine after much legal action from Greens who should have their legal aid removed. The Labor government in Qld would hold on at the next election if they announced that all “green” subsidies, grants and other aid would be scrapped to get more real productive growth going.

And a quite large number of Indian coalfields have been irrevocably set alight from utterly atrocious underground mining management.

One of the very few times I’ve been underground in India, it became obvious that timber purchased for roof and rib support was either never delivered (although paid for) or of such poor quality it was useless. For me, the penny dropped when I was told that the timber merchant contracted for this supply was the brother of the mine manager.

          I kid not.

Same with China which digs up at least 3.7 billion tonnes plus imports about 70% of Australia’s export or about 200 million tonnes, a mere trifling compared to their internal production.

But, but, but, think of Australia’s per capita contribution. That’s all that matters!

How awful of the Indian government to think about the interests of their own people rather than heed what the UN and “progressive” intellectuals tell them is REALLY important.

China is a developing country, despite having a GDP second only to the US, so it is exempt. India also, because it needs the energy. Russia too, as they think it is all nonsense are supply all the gas and oil to Europe and the Ukraine and everywhere else.

So it’s up to the brave South Australian government. Champions. Prepared to cripple their own people, pay fortunes to build windmills which turn off when you need them and destroy manufacturing, all to save their world which somewhere is past Bordertown and before you get to WA. Follow the GST money, twice that of WA. Take a generator.

Meanwhile, Obama in the US and a parade of idiots in the UK have been determinedly killing off coal-powered energy, ridiculously mixing up “carbon” and “carbon dioxide” in the propaganda and providing an abundant livelihood to that photographer who goes around snapping cooling towers with steam looking black against the sun.

The result in the UK is that we are constantly on the brink of black-outs, for which we shall have a succession of politicians to blame: Tony Blair, who signed Britain up to a crazy reduction in the use of fossil fuels, plainly not having the flimsiest understanding of the issues; Ed Miliband, the swivel-eyed automaton, who forced through the Climate Change Act; Gordon Brown, who sold British nuclear expertise overseas; David Cameron, who wanted to lead “the greenest government ever”, even if that meant thousands dying of hypothermia; former MP and gaolbird, Chris Huhne; former MP (and surely the man whose face “inspired” the scary clowns craze), Ed Davey…

In the meantime, the British government has finally given the green light to one enormously expensive nuclear power station at Hinckley Point, a project first proposed in the time of Alfred the Great, and has over-ruled a local council in Lancashire, to permit fracking, for the first time in the UK. At least, the last bit is good news. Meanwhile, voters in the United States seem about to elect a President who has vowed to shut down fracking (and has trouser[-suit]ed millions from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, although I’m sure that that is just chance – could happen to anyone).

We’re the smart ones. We’ll have a nice atmosphere while the Indian and Chinese atmospheres will be saturated with CO2. Australia will have ecotourists pouring in to check out our atmosphere. Not to mention all those green jobs. Don’t forget green jobs like…like…like making brochures about ecotourism and green jobs. (Okay, so some of the high-gloss brochures will have to be made in China, but you get what I mean.)

We can import our food from high CO2 areas like NZ which gets our CO2 on the Westerlies. NZ will be so green, due entirely to excessive CO2.

        Yes mosomoso,
        fergit the ‘goose-that-laid-the-golden-egg’-economy,
so de-trop, when we can have the ”green’-service’-economy,
even have Al Gore flyin’ in, or, gasp, Leo DiCaprio.

What about manufacturing our own high gloss brochures in Adelaide? When the world hears that we’re using pure wind power we’ll be a world hub of high gloss brochure production. (No need to mention all the imported coal power and rented oil and gas burners.)

This is an even better idea than manufacturing no-nuke submarines in SA (don’t mention diesel, please). We should be able to get it all done before 2060 and we won’t be depending on a future French socialist/MB government for parts.

Green Job Australia…the high-gloss ecotourism brochure nation!

So when will the global warming alarmists here relocate to India to try and stop the expansion of coal mining? If they truly believe their own religion then that’s the least they could do. Otherwise they should be shut down for causing a public nuisance and impacting negatively to our national security and economic survival.

Quite a ramp or is there something missing in units on that 634 tons?

Have to love how by saying “India” the picture automatically presents as, ‘everyone in India, even the unborn are even now collectively planning to increase coal production’.

Incredible collaboration of the entire region and all, including the unborn mention earlier to achieve this. Probably even the elephants over there in that geographical location are also collaborating to increase the said production of coal.

And the “it” as in ““It plans to ramp up from mining 634 tons to 1.5 billion metric tons by 2020. ”

GoogleEarth to “Port Waratah Coal Services” or “Kooragang Island”

and look at the length of those coal trains 🙂

look at both loops, 6 or 7 trains.. hard to tell

Seems to be several shorter trains at Port Waratah as well (that’s the stacks on the south side of the harbour.)

and see the lower stacks and loader on Kooragang, that is less than 5 years old. (other Newy guys correct me on that if I’m wrong, please)

      Don’t worry little red thumb…

There will be PLENTY of CO2 emissions to feed the world’s plant life for many, many years to come. 🙂

The West, with its obsession with AGW & RE, will continue to head South – a victim of “feel good Idealism” with dominantly Socialist (Watermelon) Govts skippering S.S. Titanic type Economies.

The East, with its obsession with Economic Growth & cheap source of Electricity (fossil fuels & nuclear), will continue to head North – applying economically sound “Realism” with dominantly Capitalist Govts skippering flourishing Economies.

In essence the once economically strong West is transitioning to 3rd World basket case status & vice versa for the East.

Being from the West (Oz), I watch in horror as this reality unfolds and knowing full well that they (the East) are a lot smarter than us (the West).

The evil Watermelons (green on the outside & red on the inside) are literally tearing the West apart using the new weapon of mass destruction, the “Theory of AGW”!!!

The population growth in India is 1.5%, so 20.5 million per year, a new Australia every year, 300,000 new people a week.

The total population of South Australia is 1,670,000 people, so every five weeks there is a new South Australia. It makes our CO2 sacrifice and windmills seem worthwhile.

Actions speak louder than words. Despite all the empty rhetoric, the simple fact is that

    _ a.) Bank robbers rob banks beause that is where the money is;

_ b.) Nations mine coal because that is where the energy is.

And the same reliable technique is used to predict:

    _ c.) Climate change and

    _ d.) Election results

Do not for one moment think that India’s 300 million people living in poverty are NOT polluting or consuming energy. In every hut / squat / tent, a cooking / heating fire is maintained, burning anything from dung to timber, coal or even plastics. Emissions from those tens of millions of fires are totally uncontrolled, and they are both plentiful & toxic. They are killing the people young.

**By comparison** Coal burnt in a modern power station furnace is done both more efficiently & cleanly. The volume is such that it is practical & economical to scrub the exhaust of particulates & some toxic gasses. Waste heat is also scavenged to power other processes. The electricity generated can replace those millions of smoky little fires, actually reducing pollution and extending the lives of those people by on average 20-30 years. It is a genuine step towards a cleaner & healthier sub continent, which will set India up to take the next step to new renewable technologies in 10/15/20 years time.
