Ken Stewart (with David Stockwell) was right, ACORN-SAT biases temperature histories by over-cooling the past. Sophisticated algorithms are used to detect and quantify step changes in temperature, but then there is the mother of all bad approximations made, that the non-climatic influences that caused the steps did not change with time, but many do, such as urban heating and screen degradation:
The basic assumption that “CO2 causes warming” must never be questioned in AGW circles, so it follows that the temperature MUST have been lower when the CO2 level was less, hence the adjustments to the data to make it fit the theory. This is so stupid that you wonder how many of those ‘true believers’ actually believe the theory**. After all it fails to explain the Medieval warm period, the Little Ice Age, the warmth of the 1920’s and 30’s, nor the cooling from approx. 1945 to 1975 and that’s just in the last thousand years.
** Apart from our Troll Julian of course. He has just graduated with first class honours in Gullibility.
I must confess that every time he sprouts I am reminded of Kenneth Williams in the old radio show Round the Horne with the line “Hello, I’m Julian, and this is my friend Sandy”. Dates me a bit.
As posted before Dr. Weiss with two cycles, the De Vries 250 year cycle and the induced 25 year Pacific Decadal Oscialation actually covers all known temperature history, the rise in the 1980s, predicts the ‘pause’ and a rapid cooling to follow. No only without mention of CO2 but explicitly excluding CO2’s monotonic change. No computer models needed. Two sine waves added up. No modelling of all the climate systems of the air and ocean. It’s just the sun which determines the temperature of the planet.
Like you, I always wondered how any scientist could accept the unproven projections of sundry computer models which did not and presumably could not replicate the ups and downs of the known temperature record. That comes from starting with their necessary conclusion, that only CO2 drives planetary temperature. That was never science. What was outrageous in Australia was to omit the records of the Federal drought 1895-1903, because clearly it should not have happened.
Two problems in my mind with Professor Weiss’ proposition:
1. What happened to the Little Ice Age about 1760 and the warming since then?
2. If the global temperature has not gone up, why is CO2 increasing?
The contribution of global CO2 from any human activity is about 4% (of the total) anyway, tiny. Most will be absorbed by oceans and plants, the absorption is never mentioned..I wonder why. Im also suspicious of the so called Mauna Loa CO2 level so called standard.
“Besides, you can directly test for fossil fuel CO2. There is none, under 2%.”
Perhaps! I have never been able to measure such. Percentage means nothing when the Climate Clowns remain ignorant of even the amount of atmosphere, or why, currently, Earth’s atmosphere has that mass!
All the best! -will-
Check the graph at 15:39. It continues to a very cold 1880s before the climb when the two cycles coincide.
We are also talking about average air temperature.
There would be a considerable lag in the ocean temperature (gradient) with 340x oceans weighing 340x the weight of the thin air aove. We know air temperature can change dramatically in a single day. Ocean temperature cannot. It is ocean temperature which determines the release of CO2. CO2 outgasses at the equator where the ocean is always hot and reenters at the poles where temperatures are much lower. Possibly you could model CO2 % from the graph but it is certain to change much more slowly than air temperature. As Prof Salby discovered by observation, CO2 is not correlated at all with (Air) temperature at all. It is however perfectly correlated with the integral of temperature, which would be the sum of solar inputs or ocean temperature.
So everything fits perfectly. However it was Weiss who threw the explanations out the windows and just looked for patterns in the seemingly random temperature graph. What he found was so simple, so obvious in hindsight, it makes you wonder why no one tried to fit (natuiral) cycles before. The payoff was that the biggest cycle is well known as a solar cycle, the De Vries cycle.
I’m pretty certain that others have played with the natural cycles before, but these are usually dismissed as “wiggle matching,” and they often have places where the wiggles don’t match.
This is a different approach. Weiss used Fourier analysis where the natural cycles drop out. He did not start with a theory. There is no playing with natural cycles involved. Here you start with the data and end up with the result which you have to explain.
Amazingly all of the major structure is explained with two sine curves without even resorting to the other cycles like the well known 11 year cycle. The only question is whether the two cycles are identifiable and they are. There is no monotonic component required at all.
What that means is that an explanation involving only two regular cycles covers most of the data well. That is amazing.
For example, it would predicted the ‘pause’ in 1980 and been correct. Who else predicted it? Certainly not Michael Mann.
Greame,
If CO2 impacts on warming through a doubling, and CO2 is a major cause of that warming, then there is a particular characteristics of the pattern of warming from the pattern of increase in CO2 levels. The following is extracted from the Mauna Loa data
If CO2 was increasing at a constant percentage rate, then the warming impact CO2 would be linear over the period from 1950 to 2014. But the increase in CO2 has been accelerating. The warming impact of CO2 this century should be twice that of the 1950s, and there should have been an acceleration in the rate of warming around the turn of the century. Even the highly adjusted temperature data sets like Karl et al 2015 show a lesser rate of warming this century compared with the period 1975-2000.
The Karl paper tries to claim the there was no slowdown by comparing 2000-2014 with 1950-1999. But, in so doing they are tacitly admitting that CO2 has no discernible effect, as there should be an increased warming rate. The linear warming rate is also 1.1C per century over 65 years, so no sign of acceleration to give 4C plus warming from unmitigated greenhouse emissions that the IPCC assumes as its central estimate.
Agreed. And anyone with an elementary knowledge of palaeontology, except from studying dead wombats only, would realise that CO2 has no effect on temperature.

Greame,

Kevin,
There is absolutely no physical evidence that doubling or halving atmospheric CO2 would have any effect upon this Earth’s surface temperature, either temporally or spatially at any time\location. The SCAM continues!
There might be no physical evidence (I would term it empirical evidence) that CO2 has a major impact on global average temperatures. However, could you for a moment imagine how, if it were the case, you would demonstrate to a jury on the balance of evidence. It might be very difficult if there is (a) natural variations that are not measurable (b) a difference between short-term transient responses and a long-term response. The normal rules of evidence in a criminal court, as it would have to be based on circumstantial evidence. But the case would be buttressed by
1) Showing that the temperature data to test the theory was as objective as possible. A bit like a National Statistics office trying to be objective in its figures by have standards; including as much data as possible in its estimates; validating estimates by external means; etc. Karl 2015, Gistemp and Berkeley Earth all fail to do this to a greater or lesser extent.
2) When using pieces of circumstantial evidence, they need to logically fit together into a convincing and unambiguous story. The Karl use of linear data trends are not logically compatible the theory.
3) You need to look at the data from different perspectives. The argument of no downturn in the data trends from 2000 is based upon the period 1950-1999. Using the period 1975-1999 for comparison (when all surface temperature data sets show a warming trend) undermines the claim.
4) There are peer-reviewed papers showing reasons for the anomaly between theory and empirical reality. But, as they mutually incompatible, unless you could make a case for one line of argument, over all the others, they just become a list of excuses.
5) Naturally a professional lawyer would advise on the case. Arguments about consensus – or that the opponents are conspiracy-loving nutters, with errant political views – would not be allowed. Nor would attempts to block or nobble the case for the defense.
6) The argument that the issue has already been decided would require citations.
I say this, as there are always counter-arguments. The case against CO2 being a dominant cause of warming lies not just in the real-world evidence, but the circumstantial evidence from all the absurd maneuvers and contortions used to divert from that real-world evidence.

What you are missing is what is reasonably well known as “World’s Best Practice Temperature Homegenisation”. This process is well documented in the Anglospere with the global leaders being authorities in the UK, USA and Australia. The weather monitoring authorities in these countries have made certain the data homogenisation is well coordinated so the trends are all generally upwards. This will help explain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homogenization_(climate)
The Russians are quite a long way behind, not yet adopting World’s Best Practice reporting. The authorities there use the obsolete method of reporting what was actually observed or measured. As silly as it sounds, they do not filter the data to match the climate models. Those clowns in Russia actually believe subtle changes in the sun can affect climate – so ignorant.
Thanks to the climate scandal, the public may finally realize modern science and education are about controlling creative minds of the public rather than showing them how logic can yield a joyous life of continuous discovery.
Why? All tyrants are powerless and live in fear of the truth (reality).
By 1 April 2017, I hope to publish a paper celebrating the centennial birth of the late Dr. Paul Kazuo Kuroda, my research who risked his life to keep frightened world leaders from hiding the source of energy after WWII that promised mankind “powers beyond the dreams of scientific fiction“ [See last paragraph of the Nobel Lecture of Francis William Aston on 12 Dec 1922].
Kuroda had a magnificent obsession with truth as the salvation for humanity that carried him through the terror of WWII in Japan, and then newspaper headlines as a “JAP” in the United States.

In an article for Cato mocking the Obama Administration for creating energy technology forecasts that run to the year 2300, Pat Michaels wrote:
Consider the case of domestic natural gas. In 2001, everyone knew that we were running out. A person who opined that we actually would soon be able to exploit hundreds of years’ worth, simply by smashing rocks underlying vast areas of the country, would have been laughed out of polite company.
Energy statists on the Left today are trying to get rid of coal-fired electricity generation in this country (due to climate concerns). But one thing that few people remember is that a significant reason we have so much coal-fired electricity generation in this country is that energy statists on the Left in the 1970’s mandated it. I kid you not:
The Powerplant and Industrial Fuel Use Act (FUA) was passed in 1978 in response to concerns over national energy security. The 1973 oil crisis and the natural gas curtailments of the mid 1970s contributed to concerns about U.S. supplies of oil and natural gas. The FUA restricted construction of power plants using oil or natural gas as a primary fuel and encouraged the use of coal, nuclear energy and other alternative fuels. It also restricted the industrial use of oil and natural gas in large boilers.
As a further irony, and absolutely typical of government regulation, this regulation banning oil and gas fired plants because oil and gas seemed to be running out was really trying to fix a problem caused by another regulation. The government had caps on oil and gas prices through the 1970’s that artificially reduced supplies. Once these price regulations were removed, we suddenly had an oil and gas glut in the 1980’s and the FUA was eliminated in 1987. Watching regulators chase their tails in energy policy over the last 40 years would be comical if the effects of their repeated mistakes were not so dire.”

I couldn’t care less what the d@mned things cost, and hey, when it comes to the word ….. Billions, note how it just rolls off the tongue when it comes to anything that comes out of the mouth of a politician, and yet, when it’s associated with a new tech HELE coal fired power plant, suddenly, it’s a cost too much to even consider.
So then, let’s build a brand new HELE USC coal fired power plant here in Oz. Let’s make it simple, just the one plant with two units of 1000MW each, so a total Nameplate of 2000MW. These plants are currently averaging a Capacity Factor (CF) of around 90%, so that means a total power delivery each year of 15,800GWH each year. And before some of you think I’m going over the top with perhaps what you think is a CF on the high side, even 30 plus year old Bayswater is still averaging close to that 90%.
Wait a minute, we’re told the cost of these d@mned things is way too horrendously expensive, so there’s no way known on Planet Earth we could afford to build one of these monsters. Out of the question. No one in their right mind would finance one of these.
Let’s do renewables instead, because, as we are told, these are much cheaper.
Let’s even use a current wind plant in construction and show you just how cheap those wind plants really are. So we’ll use the one currently under construction in Victoria, you know to replace Hazelwood. (Hey Tony, what have I told you about using sarcasm) That’s the new plant nearly finished, the Ararat Wind Plant.
See, I told you it was cheaper. It’s only $450Million in cost.
It has a Nameplate of 240MW, see enough power to run 120,000 Victorian homes for a year, (not that old crock again) at the average CF of 30%, that’s an actual power delivery of 630GWH per year.
Why would anyone even consider the horrendously expensive new tech coal fired plant, when we have this aesthetically pleasing wind plant to supply our power, and it’s way cheaper than any coal fired plant.
So, a with coal fired plant of 2000MW, we now need 8.3 of these wind plants just to equal the Nameplate of this coal fired plant.
However, as you know, it’s got nothing to do with nameplate, as it’s the actual power delivered which really counts.
So, to equal that power delivered from the coal fired plant, we now need 25 of these Ararat scale wind plants.
The coal fired plant has a life span of 50 years and the wind plant a lifespan of 25 years, so just to equal the lifetime power delivery of the coal fired plant, we now need 50 of these wind plants.
So, at Ararat’s cost of ONLY $450 Million, we now find that just to deliver the same amount of power, the total cost comes in at, umm, dare I even mention it, $22.5 Billion.
There is no way known that a new tech HELE coal fired power plant is going to cost …..
$22.5 BILLION
Tony.
PostScript: Incidentally, the total power delivery of EVERY wind plant in Australia is 10,000GWH which is only 63.3% of the power from this dream of a HELE coal fired power plant. 2500 wind tower generators producing way less power than TWO coal fired generators.
Excellent article again Tony. Question – does the $450M price tag for the Ararat wind plant include the cost of (gas fired?) back up for when the wind doesn’t blow in times of high demand?
As South Australia has demonstrated, the need for permanent, even spinning, back-up is essential and therefore must be included in the costing.
Politicians avoid this minor problem and then we wind up living in a third world country with no primary metallurgical capacity, no iron making, no steel making, no aluminum smelting.
Hazelwood, you know, that plant that Victoria is going to shut down.
Well it has eight units, each running a 200MW turbine/generator unit for a Nameplate of 1600MW.
Currently, right now, Sunday morning 5th March 2017, at 11AM local time, ALL eight units are running. Those old units are not as good as they once were, so of that 1600MW Nameplate, it is only delivering 1376MW, on the day of the week of least power consumption.
All eight units running.
At the average power delivery of a wind power plant, with a Capacity Factor (CF) of 30%, then this new wonderful magical brand spanking new wind plant at Ararat, with its nameplate of 240MW, so at a 30% CF, an average daily power delivery of 72MW, then that new wind plant does not equal the power delivery of ONE of those clapped out generators at Hazelwood. The lowest power delivery of all those eight units is 161MW currently being generated by the Number Three unit, and that’s more than double the average power delivery expected from the wind plant.
Oh dear.
FAIL.
Clapped out ancient Hazelwood is now 53 years old.
Talk about getting blood out of a stone.
That brand spanking new wind plant at Ararat must be looking at Hazelwood with envy, just wishing they could still be operational in 54 years, knowing full well that in 54 years from now, the Ararat Wind Plant will have been closed for 30 years.
One 53 year old clapped out unit delivering more power than the average power delivery from 75 generators on poles at this wind Plant.
And you wonder why I rail so much against wind power.
Let me point out the absolute blindingly obvious thing here.
In this current era of State Governments feeling the heat from rising power prices, and we are told that coal fired power is now more expensive than wind power, so why oh why would a State have its power sourced from coal fired power to the extent that ALL EIGHT units at Hazelwood are delivering power into the Victorian grid.
Oh, by the way, the total power being delivered from EVERY wind plant in Victoria is currently, umm, 350MW.
Units seven and eight at Hazelwood are currently delivering 353MW, so here we have a Nameplate for Wind power in the whole State of Victoria of 1485MW delivering less power than TWO UNITS at clapped out ancient 53 year old Hazelwood.
When Hazelwood closes, the whole crazy windmill fantasy will come crashing down. I would suggest Enegie have had enough of backdoor subsidies to stay open. They know that Hazelwood and Pelican Point are absolutely critical, so I would suggest they will close them just to see the reaction. Many businesses will close. Even the Labor party cares about jobs and cannot afford to lose whole seats in the country. So Energie could be paid double to stay open. Better than a slow silent death through the RET. Forget Sovereign risk, Energie are taking on two Labor governments. If only Malcolm Turnbull was a real PM, not Pinnocchio.
Will Australia’s power crisis ever become critical?
It may not for a long time because a lack of reliable fossil generation will be disguised by massively reduced demand for electricity as industry systematically shuts down.
With no heavy industrial consumption such as steel works and various smelting operations and car manufacturing and only lightweight domestic, retail and office consumption there might well be enough whirlygig power to go around, especially with the introduction of DRED (Demand Response Enable Device) that allows the power company to remotely shut down your heavy use items like air cons.. (Most air cons sold in Australia now have this “feature”, look at the energy efficiency label.)
Of course, the lack of significant wealth creating activity might turn us into a second or third world country but that’s all part of living the Green Dream.
Australia is highly energy intensive. The rising RET has locked in inflation for the foreseeable future. The connection between the “Target” or transfer payment to uneconomic power producers and rising electricity cost is not well known.
And Rick, everyone in Australia who is paying a power bill needs to understand that illogical, magical, unethical, green transfer payment and what it means to them in dollars each year.
The precedent which is directly related to both foriegn owned and domestic companies in Spain, comes from the highest Spanish court.
It states in effect that a government can do what it likes with subsidies to renewable energy scammers and just about everything else that gets tax payer funded subsidies.
Law360, New York (January 25, 2016, 11:38 PM EST) — The Court of Arbitration of Madrid has tossed a dispute brought against Spain by two foreign investors in a power plant over the country’s 2010 cuts to renewable energy subsidies, Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism announced Monday.
The arbitrators dismissed the complaint filed by Netherlands-based Charanne BV and Luxembourg’s Construction Investments SARL and concluded Jan. 21 that Spain’s policy changes did not violate any legitimate expectation under international law that the country would not eventually alter its system of incentives and subsidies for the industry.
.
“In fact, the arbitral tribunal notes that investors could have easily foreseen, given the situation, the possibility of changes in the regulatory framework,” the Spanish ministry said in a statement. “According to the court, it would have been commensurate with the level of care expected of a foreign investor in a sector such as energy.”
The dispute stems from the companies’ investment in a photovoltaic solar energy plant run by Spanish renewable energy giant Isolux Corsan.
The investors claimed that Spain illegally changed its rules governing the industry after it succeeded in attracting foreign investment.
The tribunal found that the obligation to provide fair and equitable treatment to foreign investors under the 1994 Energy Charter Treaty does not require freezing regulatory frameworks or limiting changes to regulations.
The decision, which backed previous determinations by Spanish courts, is the first resolution of over a dozen claims of violations of the treaty brought against Spain.
The tribunal, which included International Court of Arbitration President Alexis Mourre, said the foreign investors failed to demonstrate any principle of international law that prohibits a state from imposing new rules when it never signed a contract stipulating otherwise.
.
The arbitrators also rejected claims that the subsidy cuts went against the public interest, noting that Spanish consumers were paying much higher energy bills than their counterparts in other European Union member states while renewable energy companies collected hefty profits.
The tribunal therefore concluded that Spain’s actions were “neither arbitrary nor irrational.”
The panel ruled that the investors must pay €1.2 million ($1.3 million) for the costs of arbitrating the dispute plus attorneys’ fees.
—————————
There always comes a point where the legal eagles in the final destination and appeals for any legal case, the highest Courts of the Land will decide that the National interests outweigh any previous agreement or subsidies, as in this case, and will adjudicate in favour of the government if the government’s case has sufficient merit and the national polity is seen to be at some risk.
Probably best called “self preservation” on the part of the senior legal profession as they don’t want to mess their own roost if the whole government goes the proverbial t**s up and leaves even the legal mob running for cover.
As lawyers they will inevitably find some way or some loop hole to justify and squeeze their decisions through.
And if they can’t find a loop hole they will invent another one.
To toss a couple of ideas around on reining in the renewables without some very heavy litigation that would arise from removing the subsidies.
1 / The first of course is to remove and dismantle ALL vestiges of any Federal “Renewable Energy Target” [ RET ] in Australia which would leave it up to the various States to set their own RETS and the state politicals to pay the political price as industry decamps for cheaper, better and more reliable sources of power and the citizenry begin to get very stroppy about energy prices.
2 / The second very obvious course of action would be to remove the right of renewable energy to be the supplier of first resort having precedence over any other form of power generation.
And THAT might be very difficult legally due to the stupidity of politicals signing long term contracts with renewable energy companies without any “get out” clauses..
So the alternatives to 2 above are suggested as ;
3 / ALL power use by Renewable energy generators;
Monitoring power used and drawn from the Grid to run and maintain their systems when the Renewables are not generating power or enough power to run themselves, would be to install meters and charge the Renewables for the power they use from the Grid at the same rate as which they are getting paid for power, including subsidies, when they generate power.
4 / ALL grid upgrades across the entire grid system and all grid extensions that are required to link Renewables into the Grid regardless of size which includes household solar systems should be charged to the renewable operators and NOT to the customers through higher Grid charges as currently appears to be the case.
5 / A very long history exists on Grid stability when it was operated using solely fossil fuelled, coal fired generators.
This grid stability history can now be used as the base line to measure the increased costs and the increased needs for grid interventions to now try and maintain grid stability due to the intermittency of the renewables and their unpredictability.
Interventions by grid operators to maintain grid stability and frequency and etc were relatively rare before the advent of renewable wind and solar systems.
Therefore the current and increasingly numerous interventions by grid operators to maintain grid stability in the face of grid instability caused by the unpredictable and intermittent generation outputs of the wind and solar renewables and therefore an increasingly costly program to run a stable grid which uses unpredictable and intermittent renewables, the extra grid costs to maintain grid stability should be directly paid for by the renewable operators including solar system householders and not the customers as appears to be the case at present.
6 / Like Spain today, the renewable operators should be required to provide a forecast of how much power they can deliver and when, at least 24 hours ahead so as to minimise any potential grid instability problems and allow the grid operators to plan ahed for potential contingencies.
The renewables would be allowed a 10% variation each side of their forecast but would be heavily penalised and fined if they failed to match their predicted power contribution to the grid within the allotted time slot.
A refusal by the renewables to provide such predicted and forecast outputs to the grid would immediately signal to the public just how utterly useless and how large a drain they are on grid system resources the renewables actually are.
7 / The renewables should be required to be able to deliver a percentage of their output to the grid at all times in exchange for any subsidies.
Failure to deliver their allotted and negotiated percentage amounts of power and the subsequent need for back up generation , such back up power generation should be fully costed against and financed solely by the renewable energy operators as is the case when any contracted organisation fails to meet its contracted obligations.
———–
I figure that with a few not so radical changes such as the above were to implemented with no changes to the renewable subsidy system except a requirement that the renewable operators actually fulfil their part of their own very heavily promoted but unwritten social contract in which they repeatedly claim they are a reliable generation system that can meet all of societies needs.
The demand that the renewable operators front up and prove their claims should be placed right back on the renewable operators to force them to match deeds to their colourful and highly self promoting and self aggrandising propaganda so as to provide the cheap power that our whole civilisation has been built on for the last century past and which the renewable operators today claim, so far without ANY supporting evidence but with truckloads of evidence to the contrary, that they can and will provide cheap and reliable power to all of our nation and its citizenry .
With the way politicians throw around terms like billions in reference to spending our hard earned tax dollars, do you think that they be too innumerate to understand the order of magnitude of this number? Typically the US sense of billion is used, 10^9 rather than the obsolete British meaning 10^12.
The cognitive dissonance of the Red Thumbers must be enormous as they are bombarded daily with true facts on this blog which they are unable to dispute and at the same time believing in CAGW.
In a previous thread I posted a draft of my submission to the Finkel inquiry. I received many good suggestions and constructive criticisms which I tried to incorporate, time permitting. A big thank you to all who helped. I know this is not necessarily the exact format Finkel’s committee may have wanted but if they are committed to an open and honest inquiry and the scientific method they should be prepared to hear what I as an outsider and who is not one of their sycophants have to say.
I hope this is of some use but even if it isn’t, they will never be able to say “we didn’t know” and my submission is archived as part of the historical record.
Apologies for the formatting which is messed up by the blog software.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
SUBMISSION BY DR DAVID MADDISON 3rd March, 2017
Australia’s power crisis results in some of the world’s most expensive electricity (and unreliable in the case of SA). A solution is proposed which allows Australia to have inexpensive and weather- independent electrical power generation.
Fortunately, it is found that anthropogenic influences on climate are insignificant and power generation methodologies compatible with this finding will be suggested.
These methodologies are based on well established technologies, can be implemented immediately and at relatively low cost, and solve the main problems of energy diffuseness and variability with wind and solar and because these technologies can be operated full time at maximum power if necessary, no expensive battery or pumped hydroelectric storage is required.
INTRODUCTION
Since this inquiry and submission is being made under the auspices and direction of Australia’s Chief Scientist this inquiry demands that a rigorous application of the scientific method be applied as the economic future of Australia is at stake.
Before discussing solutions to Australia’s energy crisis, the nature of which is expensive and unreliable electricity it is first necessary to question the fundamental premise upon which there has been such a massive and ongoing investment in expensive intermittent, low density energy sources.
THE CLIMATE
The ostensible reason for this investment away from traditional sources of coal and gas fired generation is the hypothesis that emissions of carbon dioxide cause catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (CAGW).
There is no evidence whatsoever that this hypothesis is true or even plausible, in fact, it is widely discredited now by scientists outside of the “climate change industry” and the claim has only ever been demonstrable with inappropriately altered historical temperature records.
It surely has not escaped the attention of the Chief Scientist or his staff the extensive alteration of historic temperature records that has occurred with Australia’s and other climate agencies to the effect of cooling the past and warming the present? (e.g. http://joannenova.com.au/2014/08/the- heat-is-on-bureau-of-meteorology-altering-climate-figures-the-australian/, https://realclimatescience.com/history-of-nasanoaa-temperature-corruption/, http://joannenova.com.au/2017/02/noaa-whistleblower-tells-how-they-used-bad-data-to-rub-out- pause-for-paris/ to name a few of thousands of references to this.)
In the light of extensive documentation of the alteration of historical climate records why is not the question of whether there is real anthropogenic global warming considered? The scientific method DEMANDS that if the data is bad then then the results are INVALID.
There are further issues to consider such as:
– CO2 is not a particularly powerful “greenhouse” gas and is present in the atmosphere in only trace quantities. It is estimated that of all the approximate 400ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere, only 4.3% or 17.2ppm is of anthropogenic origin. (http://notrickszone.com/2017/02/25/blockbuster- paper-finds-just-15-of-co2-growth-since-industrialization-is-due-to-human-emissions) It is simply not plausible that the small amount of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere is responsible for the
temperature changes claimed. In the past CO2 levels have been much higher than this with commensurate flourishing of plant life and hence all life (since CO2 is vital for plant life, a fact that many don’t seem to know).
– The geological record also shows that natural CO2 concentrations lag temperature changes by hundreds of years and do not lead them. This is an undeniable scientific fact. Natural temperature changes are responsible for later changes in CO2.
– The IPCC computer models have no forecasting or hindcasting ability whatsoever, they cannot even make predictions into the past when the answer is known. Therefore they are scientifically invalid. It is questionable whether a chaotic process such as climate can be modelled in any case. There used to be a saying “Garbage In Garbage Out” GIGO. These models represent a tremendous waste of supercomputing resources which should be used on legitimate scientific research. Australia’s energy policy should not be based on faulty and invalid computer models.
– There has been no global warming whatsoever for nearly 20 years and only 0.57C over the last 154 years. We are still coming out of an unusually cool period of the last 10,000 years. In any case, climate is not static as many people seem to think and constantly changes with natural cycles such as Milankovitch Cycles and variations in solar output, both phenomena of which are responsible for a vast majority of natural climate variations.
– Global warming is not a bad thing, even if it were happening now. Some of mankind’s greatest achievements happened during naturally warm periods such as the Minoan, Roman and Medieval warm periods. Agricultural output is plentiful in warm periods. This is one reason farmers use greenhouses, often with artificially enhanced CO2 to which promote plant growth. During naturally cool periods such as the Maunder Minimum, many people died due to diminished agricultural output and the effects of the cold.
– CO2 is at a very low level in geological terms. The minimum level for plants to thrive is around 200ppm compared to about 400ppm we have now. The very slight amount of CO2 put into the atmosphere by mankind provides an additional buffer to protect plant life from CO2 starvation and hence all life. The more CO2 there is in the atmosphere, the better off plant life and all life is. We need more CO2 to enhance crop yields to increase agricultural output for the world’s growing population.
The present dogma that there is CAGW lacks scientific integrity and is ultimately one of the biggest failures to correctly apply the scientific method in all of history.
To quote from a reader at comment http://joannenova.com.au/2017/01/unthreaded-week-and-what- a-great-week-it-has-been/ the current “researchers” have the following characteristics:
They don’t adhere to the philosophy of science.
They don’t adhere to the scientific method.
They aren’t remotely sceptical, and indeed shun same.
They’ve never conducted a relevant experiment in their lives.
They have no testable hypothesis.
They’ve never validated their modelling and don’t appear to even consider it necessary. The hypothesis they’ve been working on for thirty years has no quantification.
Richard Feynman would place it squarely within the vague theory category.
So, no, they aren’t scientists.
They may be government ‘researchers’, but that’s about it.
THE “97% CONSENSUS” CLAIM
The claim of a 97% consensus among scientists that CAGW is real demonstrates a lack of understanding of scientific processes as science is based on fact, not consensus. The 97% figure has been thoroughly debunked in any case. See, for example http://joannenova.com.au/2013/05/cooks-fallacy-97-consensus-study-is-a-marketing-ploy-some- journalists-will-fall-for/
IF GLOBAL COOLING – HOW WILL “RENEWABLES” COPE?
While few well-informed scientists believe in CAGW (if they are not dependent on research funding for same), there is certainly some evidence that the earth is heading for a period of significant global cooling, which unlike harmless global warming even if it were happening to any significant degree, is serious because it will result in reduced agricultural output. Some opinions suggest global cooling seems likely to happen because the main thing that predicts global mean temperature is solar output, along with where we happen to be within the Milankovitch Cycle. It is well known that solar output is currently diminishing in accord with established natural cycles.
Scientists such as Piers Corbyn, John Casey and David Dilley have written and spoken extensively about the forthcoming cooling period that, according to them, we have arguably already entered if unaltered temperature data is examined.
Global cooling, should it occur, will require that we have access to cheap, reliable, high energy density power which windmills, solar and other “green” power generation schemes (even with energy storage) are simply not capable of delivering, not even in principle.
AUSTRALIA’S CO2 OUTPUT – THE BIG PICTURE
Australia produces about as much CO2 from power production as is produced by the respiration of 1.3 billion Chinese people. People themselves are not carbon neutral. Whatever the truth of “climate change”, is the tremendous economic damage done to Australia by “green” energy worth it in the context of a miniscule production of CO2? Is not economic prosperity and viable industry more important when there isn’t really a problem?
ELECTRICITY PRICES
The cost of electricity for industry in the USA is about one tenth what Australian industry pays. It is no wonder Australian factories are closing down everywhere. Also, Australian domestic consumers pay around twice as much as US consumers. This is a completely unacceptable situation given the riches of Australian energy resources such as coal, natural gas and deposits of uranium and thorium.
LEGISLATIVE RESTRICTION CAUSING ENERGY SHORTAGES
Australia can no longer build new hydroelectric plant, explore for gas in many places, use hydraulic fracturing despite it being a proven and productive technology to obtain gas, and we are not allowed to use nuclear power. This are not the hallmarks of rational policy or a “clever country”, nor indeed wise and informed leadership.
FUTURE POWER GENERATION
It is simply not morally or technically correct that a rich country like Australia has to pay Third World prices for electricity or have Third World levels of supply reliability.
The technologies for cheap, reliable power generation already exist and are well proven. I make the following recommendations.
RECOMMENDATIONS
– Australia should retain existing levels of hydroelectric power production. Implement more hydroelectric power production in the limited number of remaining suitable sites if economically acceptable and within reasonable environmental constraints.
– Retain existing fossil fuel powered generators replacing them only as per normal economic necessity due to depreciation etc.. Upgrade to new technologies where technically and economically feasible.
– When coal fuelled power stations need to be replaced they can use the next generation supercritical or ultrasupercritical technologies. These are much more economical to run as they use less coal per unit of power produced and less CO2, assuming that was a problem.
– Install nuclear power generators if economically justified according to whomever wants to build one. These produce no CO2 emissions, assuming that was a problem.
– Thorium reactor technology should be researched. This produces no CO2.
– Immediately stop all subsidies for solar and wind generation. As we are constantly told that such power generation methodologies are so cheap that they will run fossil generation out of the market without market interference by government, then there is obviously no need for subsidies or legislative market distortions.
– Power output ratings for windmills and solar plant need to be honestly presented. To say that a windmill has a power rating of, say 1MW is dishonest when it has a typical capacity factor of 30% so its average deliverable output is effectively 300kW.
– Remove legislative restrictions against the exploration for new gas resources, hydraulic fracturing, the development of new hydroelectric resources and the use of nuclear power.
– Investigate reported alteration of Australia’s historic temperature records.
ATTACHMENTS
In support of some of the technologies I propose I refer readers to my articles on “Supercritical and Ultrasupercritical Steam Power Stations” in the December 2015 issue of Silicon Chip and “Small Nuclear Reactors – safe power, very low pollution, very low risk” in the June 2016 issue of Silicon Chip. These are provided as attachments.
But,but, but, the CONsensus of 97% (really 0.3%)and all the (bodged) models (that couldn’t predict tomorrow’s date) say otherwise !
And Foinkel is just another a political appointee by the ‘esteemed one’.
When asked by Senator Malcolm Roberts within a senate hearing ‘is not all science based on empirical evidence?’.
instead of answering a simple ‘Yes’, he gave a long winded typical political answer that was anything but!
Foinkel is obviously a CAGW flogger and is why ‘the esteemed one’ rushed his appointment through as ‘Chief Propagandist’ just in time for ‘the esteemed one’ to run to Paris to handover 1000 million of borrowed money to appease the UN climate scammers and his self gratification at our expense.
So i would consider any letters to ‘the Foinkel’ as a waste of time.
Appointees such as this are CAGW true b’lvers and/or advocate for such, and if not would not have been appointed, especially in such haste.
What is needed is to shut down all funds to such so called scientific bodies advocating for this CAGW nonsense and in particular stop all taxpayer funding towards so called renewables, especially erratic windmills.
Let such advocates finance such junk themselves.
No overseas or offshore funding and get rid of the RET, and before we end up a third world country.
Why should poorer people who do not own houses, pay through forced taxation for richer people to solar power their houses to get cheaper power prices for themselves only and strain grid reliability in the meantime?
Let them finance their own ‘free power’ including batteries and disconnect from the ‘evil fossil fueled grid’.
Everything is viable IF someone else is forced to pay for it !
We need to all wake up, or stay in servitude to BSers.
Let them finance their own ‘free power’ including batteries and disconnect from the ‘evil fossil fueled grid’.
What I find utterly amazing is the fact that people without any knowledge whatsoever about it, are willing to actually believe that battery technology to support a whole grid structure is just around the corner, which it isn’t, and won’t be, will be as cheap as chips, which it won’t be, at any level, even the micro level, let alone for a whole grid, and are willing to pay literally billions for it, even though it will never be done, and yet, also without any knowledge about it, reject out of hand the technology of new tech coal fired power.
I am absolutely certain that there are people in high places who know EXACTLY all about the failings of wind and solar, and the truth of coal fired technology, and yet are not willing to actually tell the people about it, and for the life of me, I just cannot figure out why, because pretty soon, the people are going to find out anyway.
I actually fear for the time when people DO find out the truth about all these things, and what the backlash will be.
Let me take you back to 2008. I was asked to contribute at the site I do, and the owner told me just to write something on my area of expertise, and I told him it would be bat$hit boring, but he gave me free license to write what I wanted.
So I did. I had this bug about what was then, in 2008, in its Genesis, the use of wind and solar power to replace coal fired power.
I had a good idea on what I was writing about after so many years of working in the trade, and off I went, and that understanding of electrical power generation gave me a comprehensive insight into the facts I was finding.
It was heart in mouth stuff, because even though I knew most of it, the more I looked, the more I found that I was the only one writing about those failings.
I came to the conclusion that I MUST be wrong, so it REALLY was a heart in mouth situation when those first few tentative Posts went up. Then, the more I looked the more I knew I was right.
Now, scroll forward to 2017.
Here I am, someone who knows what it’s all about. (Well I’d like to think I know at least something about it anyway)
The only people who can get that word out are the journalists and politicians. Journalists know journalism, and politicians know politics.
A journalist is not going to write the truth of the matter because he doesn’t understand it, and even if he did, and got it right, his editor is going to tell him that it will never get into print, because (a) it’s bull$hit, and (b) it’s bat$hit boring, and (c) people don’t want to read that cr@p anyway. So, it just won’t get printed anywhere.
A politician is not going to mention it, because he knows that a journalist will ask him questions about it, which he won’t be able to answer, and will be edited to make him (the politician) look fooli$h, the main job for a journalist, getting gotchas.
So, no one will ever mention the truth at all, mainly out of fear of getting caught out in something they don’t understand in the first place.
AEMO, the regulator might mention it, but hey, look what happened when they did say something derogatory. They got turned on by politicians and journalists alike.
This is Scylla and Charybdis territory. Rock and a hard place.
No one will ever find out because no one is actually game to even mention it in the first place.
Tony,
You and others like you who are proclaiming the same message, all apparently without much effect, are like water on a small keystone which rests at the bottom of a cliff.
That water, your persistence with your message on power generation and the utter uselessness and impotence of renewable energy is like water wearing away at that stone.
That small stone seems to be impervious, unshifting, unyielding, unchangeable by something as soft as that water.
And then comes the day when unnoticed by the dyed in the wool believers of man made climate change who have a rigid ideologically fixated belief in the unchangeable nature of “Nature”, the water has slowly and steadily and unnoticed by all over the many years, worn that stone right down and then suddenly and catastrophically it fails, gives way and is crushed.
And the rotten rock of that cliff face without that keystone to hold it in place comes crashing down to the abject horror of all those who thought and believed that such a fomidable cliff was immoveable and an ever lasting feature never to be changed or altered or torn down.
That is how I see the great global warming con, a vast cliff of rotten rock held up and in place by the small stone of very dubious and oft times corrupt science , propped up and held in place by that same corrupt and twisted climate science that will at some unpredictable time finally break and be crushed into dust.
And then the whole rotten rock cliff face edifice of the global warming/ climate change catastrophe that has been so carefully constructed by the scammers of climate science and the green cult will come crashing down just like that cliff face of rotten rock as that small key stone finally fails.
.
Have Faith and Hope my friend, for the Great Wheel of History rolls ever onward and soon what appeared to be impossible becomes possible as the tides of human affairs rolls ever onward with that Great Wheel of History..
And as the few survivors crawl and drag themselves from out under all the stinking debris of the rotten rock of the global warming ideology, all you will have to do is brush the dust off and still true to yourself, just say, “I tried to tell you but you would not listen”.
Taken by the EarthKAM camera on the International Space Station, this photograph shows Australia’s largest inland lake.
Lake Eyre is easily recognizable from space, being a large, white-floored lake bed that is usually dry.
However, a remarkable, periodic change was visible in February 2017.
As of February 20, 2017, water was reported to be flowing down the entire length of the lake (130 kilometers, or 80 miles), and reaching one of the lowest points (15 meters or 50 feet below sea level) at Belt Bay, where the water depth was measured at 1.3 meters (4 feet).
The water seems to be coming into the basin from round about, this maybe significant.
‘Large falls of rain have occurred across Outback South Australia and Central Australia over December and January 2017. This has resulted in floods in many areas causing floods in the Neales and Macumba Rivers as well as flows in the Warburton River. There is also flooding in the Diamantina, Georgina and Eyre Creeks in SE Queensland.
‘Flooding in the Macumba and Neales Rivers have fed into the Warburton Groove and flowing into Belt Bay in the SW corner of Lake Eyre North.Along the Oodnadatta Track between Marree and William Creek some of the local creeks are also flowing so a small trickle of water is also entering Lake Eyre South.
‘There is currently a lot of tropical storm activity over northern Australia so over the next month there could be some heavy falls over the Lake Eyre Basin.’
3 Mar: WaPo: White House proposes steep budget cut to leading climate science agency
By Steven Mufson, Jason Samenow and Brady Dennis
Chris Mooney and Abby Phillip contributed to this report
The Trump administration is seeking to slash the budget of one of the government’s premier climate science agencies by 17 percent, delivering steep cuts to research funding and satellite programs, according to a four-page budget memo obtained by The Washington Post.
The proposed cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration would also eliminate funding for a variety of smaller programs, including external research, coastal management, estuary reserves and “coastal resilience,” which seeks to bolster the ability of coastal areas to withstand major storms and rising seas…
The OMB outline for the Commerce Department for fiscal 2018 proposed sharp reductions in specific areas within NOAA such as spending on education, grants and research. NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research would lose $126 million, or 26 percent, of the funds it has under the current budget. Its satellite data division would lose $513 million, or 22 percent, of its current funding under the proposal.
The National Marine Fisheries Service and National Weather Service would be fortunate by comparison, facing only 5 percent cuts…
A spokesperson for the Commerce Department declined to comment. A White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the process was “evolving” and cautioned against specific numbers…
After complaining that the satellites were not good at measuring temperature, the same ‘scientists’ are now complaining about cuts to the satellite agency?
Doh!
Said Schmidt:
“That’s not to say the satellite measurements don’t provide some value, but it is an indication why the surface temperature data analyzed and reported by NASA, NOAA and others is viewed as the gold standard.”
“Fundament” refers to geutial muscles, rather than some intent of a satirist! Geutial muscles never refer to the ‘attitude’ of the ‘As* hole’, AKA ‘sh*t head’!!
All a case of “we know our theory is correct” (AGW in this case) All data that proves otherwise is bad data and shall be ignored and refused publication in peer review.
Everybody responsible for forced windmill subsidies should be prosecuted for racketeering.
Our idiotic government complains that there is not enough to be shared around while they continue to fund with borrowed money this gross scam.
I see that the ALP and union hacks have their superfunds heavily invested in the windmill racket !
Little wonder that they are such big advocates for the renewables racket.
Just a bunch of criminals in suits masquerading as planetary saviors .
When are we going to see an Australian version of ‘the Donald’ to clean out this political trash and other associated swamps ?

MAP: According to a study, ***much of the country supports funding research into renewable energy sources, but other climate change-related problems don’t have as much support from Americans.
Americans are split geographically on the topic of climate change, sometimes by county lines or congressional districts, according to new data (LINK) released by Yale University’s Program on Climate Change Communication…
“For instance, nationally, 70 percent of Americans think global warming is happening. But the model shows that only 49 percent of people in Emery County, Utah agree,” said the scientists in the study. “Meanwhile, 72 percent in neighboring Grand County, Utah believe global warming is happening.”…
The map above, which shows Americans’ opinions on funding research into renewable energy resources, had more support than some other questions on the topic of global warming…
There are but a handful of counties where a majority of adults believe they’ll be personally harmed by global warming, and ***most of those are clustered in southern Texas. Overall, just 40 percent of Americans are worried they’ll personally feel the negative effects of climate change. https://weather.com/news/climate/news/yale-university-climate-change-maps

As expected things are getting more and more interesting in the US re Trump et al. It appears Obama wire tapped Trump during the election campaign. If true it’s much bigger than the Watergate scandal. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5ECfVnMzwA
Yes skeptical until proven real. Let’s wait and see. Then there is the Federal Court Hearing re the Clinton email case. Lots to be skeptical about. It’s going to be interesting to see what develops in these two areas and others. I still have plenty of popcorn left over from the US elections.

4 Mar: The Arctic Sounder: Are we living in a warm peak between ice ages?
by Ned Rozell, University of Alaska Fairbanks
As another major rainstorm hit California in February, downtown San Francisco surpassed its normal rain total for an entire year. Reservoirs in the high country were spilling over. So ended a five-year drought in the state that some people attributed to human-caused climate change.
Those pictures of dried-up California lakes bothered Syun-Ichi Akasofu, who recently gave a talk, “The Forthcoming Ice Age,” at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He thinks we humans are perhaps living in a period of warmth between cold periods and we consider it normal. Mankind’s effects on climate, he said, are a minor act in a much grander play…
Akasofu, whom an Anchorage Daily News reporter a decade ago called “Alaska’s best known climate-change skeptic,” is now 86…
He came to Alaska from Japan in 1958 to study the aurora. He became a worldwide expert, and transitioned to people-and-budget management as director of the Geophysical Institute and later the International Arctic Research Center. He was essential in the birth of the latter, now a major UAF institution, by bringing in funding from Japan in the late 1990s…
Upon reading of the drought-ending rains in California, Akasofu said that state is experiencing natural changes that come and go in cycles. His pet peeve is “instant climatology,” in which he says people base an argument on just a few decades of data.
The time period one chooses, he said, can support or refute a favorite argument
From 1940 to 1975, he pointed out, the average temperature on Earth decreased 0.2 degrees F, making some believe a new ice age was coming.
Global warming from 1975 on is real, he said, and he agrees that carbon dioxide levels are increasing dramatically. But he thinks warming world temperatures could be mainly Earth’s natural rebound from the Little Ice Age, a period from AD 1200 to 1850 when during some winters the Thames River froze in London and so did New York Harbor.
Any measure of change has to begin at some time period. Akasofu wonders why scientists like Michael Mann used the year AD 1000 to initiate his famous “hockey stick” graph, which shows incredible warming in the past 80 years.
“There’s a big baseline problem,” he said. “You can draw a line at (AD 1000) to the present to promote the hockey stick, but if you go back 500,000 years, there were four ice ages, and we’re on the cusp of another.”…
As for today being different than yesterday, he said it is the natural state of things.
“Climate change is happening all the time,” he said. “We should respect nature and its power.”

video is credited at end to “United States Senate Democrats democrats.senate.gov”.
interestingly, Lynch’s secret meeting with Bill Clinton on 27 June would seem to occur following the first failed attempt to get the wiretaps on Trump campaign approved, and the later October attempt which apparenty succeeded:
3 Mar: WND: Loretta Lynch: Need more ‘marching, blood, death on streets’ (VIDEO)
Senate Dems post her impassioned plea on Facebook page as ‘words of inspiration’
WASHINGTON – The Obama administration’s former Attorney General Loretta Lynch has made an impassioned video plea for more “blood” and “death” on the streets – a video that was later posted on the Facebook page of Senate Democrats as “words of inspiration.”
The video is less than a minute long and begins by stating that people are experiencing “great fear and uncertainty,” with the unstated implication it is due to Donald Trump’s takeover of the White House.
Without offering any specifics, Lynch goes on to say that “our rights” are “being assailed, being trampled on and even being rolled back.”
But the strongest words come in a statement that seems to suggest the answer is street action that will inevitably turn bloody and deadly.
“I know that this is a time of great fear and uncertainty for so many people,” Lynch says. “I know it’s a time of concern for people, who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on and even being rolled back. I know that this is difficult, but I remind you that this has never been easy. We have always had to work to move this country forward to achieve the great ideals of our Founding Fathers.”
Lynch, who is scheduled to receive the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal of Law from the University of Virginia, goes on to say: “It has been people, individuals who have banded together, ordinary people who simply saw what needed to be done and came together and supported those ideals who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve bled and yes, some of them died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before. We can do this again.”
Lynch is most well-remembered for her famous private meeting with Bill Clinton, her former boss, on her airplane while a federal investigation into his wife, Hillary Clinton, and the private email server she maintained as secretary of state was under way. Obama stood behind her when the news leaked out about the secret meeting on her plane sitting on the tarmac of Phoenix airport.
Lesser known about Lynch’s history is that she was the prosecutor assigned to the biggest bank scandal in history – the probe of HSBC’s involvement in money laundering for terrorists and drug cartels lodged in 2012 and a scandal revealed first in WND, long before she was nominated for the post of attorney general.
While large fines were levied against the biggest bank in the world, no officials were charged or prosecuted by Lynch…

***he’s not going away!
how dangerous, and undemocratic, are these people?
It is beyond belief that a former President would be an active participant in undermining the authority of his successor. Is Obama campaigning for 2020? Surely this borders on anarchist and shows no respect for the democratic institution Obama led for eight years. This is bordering on an attempted coup d’etat by the outgoing President. The fantasists of Hollywood might approve and most of Washington D.C. but I would refuse to believe most Democrats had lost touch with democracy to the point where this seemed reasonable. I would hope it is not true.

A cautionary tale for the “grexiters” (grid exiters). Sydney has just experienced its 9th consecutive rainy day and sunlight has been either non existent or weak and sporadic at best. A $40,000+ off grid power system (comprised of solar panels, battery banks and diesel backup genset) will have been running on diesel power for the last 8 days, and the easterly weather pattern generating the cloud and rain is not over yet!
You are wrong.
Solar power is available 24 hours each and every day, regardless of the weather, and it costs next to nothing.
Solar power is almost as good as wind energy where each and every turbine delivers 100% of nameplate 24 hours every day. AND, boy oh boy, wind energy is really cheap.
This renewable energy is the bees knees.
“QUESTION: Martin,
I have a question that is well outside your usual realm of discourse, so please bear with me as I explain.
I have just returned from visiting my friend, who is a senior cetacean biologist at one of the large west coast universities. While there, he described an amazing situation to me that has alarmed me greatly. He said that research at his university has conclusively identified the complete or almost complete collapse of several dozen food chains within the Pacific Ocean, all within the last 36 months or so. Further, in “unauthorized” exchanges with the relevant departments in other coast universities, he learned that the numbers involved may well be more like hundreds of chain collapses in the same timeframe as opposed to dozens. Finally, in talking with authoritative figures in Vancouver, they apparently believe that the figure is likely closer to 1000. My friend also explained that equally alarming is the fact that all these research departments are finding within the genres of sea life they have physically examined within the same timeframe “huge numbers of general body mutations, as well as skin disorders” which all cannot yet be accounted for in terms of causation.
As bad as all of this sounds, here is the real rub. Regarding these findings about food chain collapses, mutations, and injuries, my friend’s university has instituted a policy that forbids them from publishing their findings, from discussing their findings (on this subject) publicly or in private with other researchers outside their own campus, or finally from taking “unauthorized” radiation readings as part of their research. The penalties for violating these new rules are severe: loss of tenure, civil lawsuits for violation of contract, and potentially employment termination. He showed me a memo on the subject from her own university, so there is no doubt about that in my mind. For the part about colleagues at other universities encountering the same things, I have nothing but my his word but that is good enough for me.”
‘In Parliament this week, LNP member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen accused the Fraser Coast Chronicle of “fake news” following articles published about “the end of the scallops” and the electoral redistribution.

Ken Stewart (with David Stockwell) was right, ACORN-SAT biases temperature histories by over-cooling the past. Sophisticated algorithms are used to detect and quantify step changes in temperature, but then there is the mother of all bad approximations made, that the non-climatic influences that caused the steps did not change with time, but many do, such as urban heating and screen degradation:
https://climanrecon.wordpress.com/2017/03/02/climate-distortion-in-acorn-sat/
Am I missing something, because this bad approximation seems to be common to all the major temperature datasets, and nobody is talking about it?
213

Does he use the screen name Julian now?

141
Thanks TdeF,
Two problems in my mind with Professor Weiss’ proposition:
1. What happened to the Little Ice Age about 1760 and the warming since then?
2. If the global temperature has not gone up, why is CO2 increasing?

“2. If the global temperature has not gone up, why is CO2 increasing?”
Surface temperature is independent of atmospheric CO2 produced by oxidizing hydrocarbons (fires)! All else is part of the SCAM!
72
Besides, you can directly test for fossil fuel CO2. There is none, under 2%.
21

-will-
52
31
I’m pretty certain that others have played with the natural cycles before, but these are usually dismissed as “wiggle matching,” and they often have places where the wiggles don’t match.
40
62
Greame,
If CO2 impacts on warming through a doubling, and CO2 is a major cause of that warming, then there is a particular characteristics of the pattern of warming from the pattern of increase in CO2 levels. The following is extracted from the Mauna Loa data
https://manicbeancounter.files.wordpress.com/2016/12/fig1-co2-percent-change-xlsx.png?w=900
142
close examination of the recent Keeling curve shows it to be linear
22
Agreed. And anyone with an elementary knowledge of palaeontology, except from studying dead wombats only, would realise that CO2 has no effect on temperature.

Kevin,
There is absolutely no physical evidence that doubling or halving atmospheric CO2 would have any effect upon this Earth’s surface temperature, either temporally or spatially at any time\location. The SCAM continues!
50
Will,
There might be no physical evidence (I would term it empirical evidence) that CO2 has a major impact on global average temperatures.

This will help explain:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homogenization_(climate)

“When Government Picks Winners, It Mostly Chooses Losers
March 3, 2017, 9:28 am

Can anyone identify another graph the same as this?
Source: Australian Bureau of Statistics, National Accounts, December 2016.
“But during four decades on the farm, rarely has Mr Milson seen as season as good as this one – and neither has the rest of Australia.

While agriculture enjoyed a double-digit leap, the traditional driver of the Australian economy – mining – grew by just 4.6 per cent.

Tony.
PostScript: Incidentally, the total power delivery of EVERY wind plant in Australia is 10,000GWH which is only 63.3% of the power from this dream of a HELE coal fired power plant. 2500 wind tower generators producing way less power than TWO coal fired generators.
341
Excellent article again Tony. Question – does the $450M price tag for the Ararat wind plant include the cost of (gas fired?) back up for when the wind doesn’t blow in times of high demand?
120
As South Australia has demonstrated, the need for permanent, even spinning, back-up is essential and therefore must be included in the costing.
Politicians avoid this minor problem and then we wind up living in a third world country with no primary metallurgical capacity, no iron making, no steel making, no aluminum smelting.
Progress or just progressive?
KK
50
Talk about flogging a dead horse.
Tony.
190
Give me strength.
Tony.
170
60
100
Politicians would be very happy to see all of industry shut down just to “prove” they were right about “renewables”.
60
Australia is highly energy intensive. The rising RET has locked in inflation for the foreseeable future. The connection between the “Target” or transfer payment to uneconomic power producers and rising electricity cost is not well known.
30
And Rick, everyone in Australia who is paying a power bill needs to understand that illogical, magical, unethical, green transfer payment and what it means to them in dollars each year.

So the alternatives to 2 above are suggested as ;
3 / ALL power use by Renewable energy generators;

I think Enegie are doing something to prevent this slow death of their multi billion dollar investments.

With the way politicians throw around terms like billions in reference to spending our hard earned tax dollars, do you think that they be too innumerate to understand the order of magnitude of this number? Typically the US sense of billion is used, 10^9 rather than the obsolete British meaning 10^12.

Thanks Jo.

Thank heavens we seem to have turned a corner in the nightmare that has been CAGW.
This contribution to the common sense analysis of the issue is going to be very useful.
60
Thanks KinkyKeith. It will only be useful if they bother to read it and not bin it, however.

If it gets binned, what explanations are possible besides treason?
21
Yes David, I get your point about “them” reading it but a lot of others are going to see this and get the message.
People often refer to the “waste” of public money by politicians but no wastage occurs and I believe that every dollar has someone’s name on it.
That so called waste is either theft of our taxes or bloody minded disregard for the taxpayers in the pursuit of green votes.
The hidden cost of standby power to support green electricity must be made known to the public.
The sort of comprehensive layout of facts in your presentation is an excellent resource.

“See, #22 below!” There remains “politics”, “fraud”, and “money”, all trying like hell to keep the peasants from rioting! Rotsa ruck Guys!

Tony.

Tony.

Tony,
You and others like you who are proclaiming the same message, all apparently without much effect, are like water on a small keystone which rests at the bottom of a cliff.

BoM permanent drought update:
Taken by the EarthKAM camera on the International Space Station, this photograph shows Australia’s largest inland lake.
Lake Eyre is easily recognizable from space, being a large, white-floored lake bed that is usually dry.
However, a remarkable, periodic change was visible in February 2017.
As of February 20, 2017, water was reported to be flowing down the entire length of the lake (130 kilometers, or 80 miles), and reaching one of the lowest points (15 meters or 50 feet below sea level) at Belt Bay, where the water depth was measured at 1.3 meters (4 feet).

But I thought Flim Flam said it was never going to rain again.

Note at foot of link has image of lake as it appeared from the space shuttle in December 1990.

The biggest single cut proposed by the passback document comes from NOAA’s satellite division, known as the National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service, which includes a key repository of climate and environmental information, the National Centers for Environmental Information. Researchers there were behind a study suggesting that there has been no recent slowdown in the rate of climate change — research that drew the ire of Republicans in Congress…

Choose alternative words\phrase for your satire. Use “as* hole” rather than “sh*t head”; if that does not change your intent!!

It’s funny how you can find, umm, suitable words, rather than resort to using characters to avoid moderation.
When it comes to that first word there, I always use the word ….. fundament.
People see the word, and wonder what it means, so they go look it up, and find it means exactly the same thing, only more politely written.

It would appear, however, that Rhodes is wrong, especially as pertains to matters of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance, and its associated FISA court, under which the alleged wiretap of Donald Trump would have been granted, as it pertained specifically to Trump’s alleged illicit interactions with Russian entities.
In Chapter 36 of Title 50 of the US Code *War and National Defense”, Subchapter 1, Section 1802, we read the following…
“(1) Notwithstanding any other law, the President, through the Attorney General, may authorize electronic surveillance without a court order under this subchapter to acquire foreign intelligence information for periods of up to one year if the Attorney General certifies in writing under oath that—”…ETC

convenientlly-timed fake data from Yale:
3 Mar: Weather Channel: Sean Bresin: Yale University Climate Opinion Maps Show What Americans Think About Global Warming

As expected things are getting more and more interesting in the US re Trump et al. It appears Obama wire tapped Trump during the election campaign. If true it’s much bigger than the Watergate scandal. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5ECfVnMzwA

Not even a little skeptical? Just a tiny bit?
Dear leader is infallible
25
Yes skeptical until proven real. Let’s wait and see. Then there is the Federal Court Hearing re the Clinton email case. Lots to be skeptical about. It’s going to be interesting to see what develops in these two areas and others. I still have plenty of popcorn left over from the US elections.

You really are a pointless drone, gee.

1 Mar: EU Observer: EU bulldozes through carbon trade reforms
By Aleksandra Eriksson
Only 19 of the 28 EU member states backed the ETS update despite the nice words.
***Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Hungary claimed throughout the day-long discussion that the overhaul would hurt their industries.
Some kept protesting even after the Maltese presidency declared a majority behind a compromise deal, as proposed by the Czech Republic…
The EU Council went further than the European Parliament, which voted its stance on ETS two weeks ago.
The two institutions will now enter into negotiations, and hope to agree on a deal before the summer.
NGOs said the reform was not far-reaching enough…

Since the late 1970s, the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Geophysical Institute has provided this column free in cooperation with the UAF research community. Ned Rozell is a science writer for the Geophysical Institute.

The fact that we are currently enjoying the benefits of an interglacial period is obvious to anyone with some appreciation of geology.
The big question is why are governments and the United nations not preparing for the next deep freeze?
Russia and the northern hemisphere, USA, have experienced very demanding winters recently.
Can’t they read the signs?

Just watching channel nine news and a story about how Donald Trump , sensationally and without proof has accused Obummer of tapping his phone .
Since when has a journalist required proof to fabricate a story these days , here say and innuendo are the only sources necessary.

4 Mar: Morning Call: Josh Rogin: Tillerson pushes back on proposed cuts to State Department and USAID
(Josh Rogin is a global opinions columnist for The Washington Post, where this commentary first appeared)
Tillerson’s formal appeal of the Office of Management and Budget’s initial budget proposal seeks to restore some of the huge cuts proposed by the White House for State Department and foreign assistance funding, according to an internal State Department memo I obtained…
The White House is also proposing to eliminate all funding for the Green Climate Fund and bilateral climate change funding, the memo states. Climate change programs were not mentioned in the memo as one of the things Tillerson wants to fight to save…
Several GOP senators have said that the White House’s proposed State Department cuts will not make it through the legislative process.
“It’s dead on arrival, it’s not going to happen, it would be a disaster,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., chairman of the Senate appropriations subcommittee for the State Department and foreign operations, said this past week. “This budget destroys soft power, it puts our diplomats at risk and it’s going nowhere.”…

video is credited at end to “United States Senate Democrats democrats.senate.gov”.
interestingly, Lynch’s secret meeting with Bill Clinton on 27 June would seem to occur following the first failed attempt to get the wiretaps on Trump campaign approved, and the later October attempt which apparenty succeeded:

Barack Obama is getting closer to making his public reappearance in politics, his friend and former Attorney General Eric Holder said on Tuesday.
Holder said he’s been talking to the former president about ways — including fundraising and interacting with state legislators — that could help the new National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which Obama asked Holder to chair last year…
“It’s coming. ***He’s coming,” Holder said, speaking to reporters at a briefing for the new group. “And he’s ready to roll.”…

how dangerous, and undemocratic, are these people?
51

50
You are wrong.
Solar power is available 24 hours each and every day, regardless of the weather, and it costs next to nothing.
Solar power is almost as good as wind energy where each and every turbine delivers 100% of nameplate 24 hours every day. AND, boy oh boy, wind energy is really cheap.
This renewable energy is the bees knees.
30
Solar power is highly variable at the solar source and at Earth’s surface

A very troubling article that was forwarded to me from a friend.
From: https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/international-news/nature/has-the-extinction-cycle-also-turned-against-us/
“Has the Extinction Cycle Also Turned Against Us?”
The rest of this can be found on the link.

I strongly recommend you drop that friend and find another.
