The cult brain can spot a link anywhere
In the new Analytical Tool of Weaponized Outrage, anyone who talks about a group “laughing” at them is, ergo, ipso fantastico, channelling Hitler. Sasha Abramsky does word analysis and finds both Hitler and Trump used the word “laughing” therefore Trump is a neoNazi, white nationalist, fascist (who is, by implication, probably planning to do mass-gassings.)
Trump Echoed Hitler in His Speech Withdrawing From the Paris Climate Accord
Seriously—it’s not a direct quote from the Führer, but it’s perilously close.
Define “perilous”? It used to mean, you know “danger”.
Who is in peril here — Only the socialist parasites who need a symbolic supranational committee to suck funds from the free west in an effort to change the weather and provide two-week 5-star conference junkets for cult believers.
On September 30, 1942, shortly after the death camps began gassing Jews, Hitler declared, “In Germany too the Jews once laughed at my prophecies. I don’t know whether they are still laughing, or whether they have already lost the inclination to laugh, but I can assure you that everywhere they will stop laughing. With these prophecies I shall prove to be right.”
On June 1, 2017, Donald Trump announced that he was pulling America out of the Paris climate accord. “At what point does America get demeaned? At what point do they start laughing at us as a country? We want fair treatment for its citizens and we want fair treatment for our taxpayers. We don’t want other leaders and other countries laughing at us anymore, and they won’t be. They won’t be.”
It’s not a direct quote from Hitler, but it’s perilously close
Define “direct quote”? There no two words used together in the same order. I’d say both were speaking “English”, well, except for Hitler.
The scariest thing is that Abramsky is telling students what a “quote” is:
…as a lecturer in journalism, I know that were a student of mine to try to pass such words off as original, they would be flying perilously close to a plagiarism citation.
At this rate, pretty soon the whole English language will be unusable due to copyright restrictions.
Everyone saying “they’re not laughing now” will need to cite Hitler, 1942.
Abramsky argues that any elected leader who says they want to pursue economic policies to help their own citizens is mimicking Hitler:
It’s not a huge leap from this passage to one from a speech that Hitler gave to party loyalists in Munich on February 24, 1941: “It is intolerable for us to be the puppets of other nations and to have them prescribe for us, for example, what economic policy we are to pursue. We are carrying out the economic policy which is most advantageous to the German people.”
I’ll leave readers to spot all the other past instances where elected leaders talked about their countries being laughed at, or where a policy would not be in their own economic interest. Let’s test Abramsky’s theory. How many of them went on to launch wars and set up genocidal concentration camps?
The “Hitler” demonization gets the full fantasy treatment complete with unattributed “rumors”, psychic guesses, and magical language insight:
Throughout Trump’s presidential campaign last year, he was dogged by rumors that he kept a book of Hitler’s speeches on his bedside table. Several of his appointees have links to far-right, neo-Nazi organizations. He has, time and again, retweeted white-nationalist and fascist tweets. He struggled to disavow support from arch-racist and former KKK leader David Duke. And his Svengali, Steve Bannon, is obsessed by nationalism and seems nostalgic for a sort of Third Reich world, in which powerful nations and races impose their might on helpless, and thus rights-less, nations and races.
National policy is not discussed in terms of jobs, employment and GDP, it’s decided by twitter tests. A fake account was set up with Mussolini quotes and eventually Trump retweeted 160 characters that included the deadly words “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.” Since this was a Mussolini quote, Trump can therefore be called a “fascist white nationalist” in the cult-analysis.
The Gawker website said it had created “a Twitter bot that would post quotes from the writings and speeches of… Mussolini” at Mr Trump until he eventually retweeted one.
Last year, we set a trap for Trump. We came up with the idea for that Mussolini bot under the assumption that Trump would retweet just about anything, no matter how dubious or vile the source, as long as it sounded like praise for himself. (It helps that that a number of Mussolini’s quotes sound plausibly like lines from Trump’s myriad books.) The account, @ilduce2016, was created by Gawker senior writer Ashley Feinberg and Gawker Media Editorial Labs director Adam Pash. It has tweeted solely at Donald Trump, multiple times a day, since December 2015.
It is just advanced trickster namecalling, where even spending two seconds clicking “retweet” on a non-controversial message gets cited as a “link”, an “echo” and support for a “rumor” that someone admires systematic massacre.
A few hundred years ago witch hunters used the same techniques.
Someone else once said something like “father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Not sure if it applies but there’s little question that they are pretty dumb.

The Left realise that they are the captains of pirate ships that have finally met their match and know that they will hang for what they have done. The final battle will be somewhat bloody, but inevitable nonetheless. And the pirates won’t be the victors.

Alan Kohler had better meet his match soon or we are all done. This might be worth a blog, Jo! It needs addressing urgently.

Those articles are long. Here is a collection of extracts from the first one on Trump. He leans heavily on the RET.
But the most important reason is that business people are required to invest in the future,
Solar and wind power costs are at the point of becoming cheaper than coal and gas, without the RET,
but it’s the RET that matters.
Meanwhile the RET is leading to so much investment in renewables
The ACT, … is approaching 100 per cent renewable power,
the nation’s biggest telco has agreed to take all of the output of the 70MW Emerald Solar Park, .. on a long-term contract. The British renewable developer, RES, will build it and investors will own it.
In most cases the generating assets are owned by super funds
AEMO…introduces a five-minute market.
AEMO could do it now, and would, but the new CEO, Audrey Zibelman is waiting for the chief scientist Alan Finkel
A five-minute market will give batteries a big advantage since they can respond in second to demand spikes.
That, with the RET, will unleash the final flood of renewable investment and spell the end of coal, despite Trump’s and Turnbull’s empty theatrics.
11
“A five-minute market will give batteries a big advantage since they can respond in second to demand spikes.”
Sounds good but spinning reserves respond in fractions of a cycle at 50Hz.
10
I’m still reading it, but Alan Kohler’s second article includes this:
first, there is simply no political future for climate change denial any more, either in domestic electorates, businesses or the rest of the world, and second, the scientific/politic debate is now giving way to common or garden industry disruption.

Donald’s grandpa was German, what more evidence do we need. They used to say its in the blood, but these days its all genetics.

Cheap shot.
Sounds like something one would hear from a racist.
Does that describe you el gordo?
Or did you miss the satire button?
39
We don’t need a sarc button around here, its a satirical blog.
I apologise to anyone who may have been offended.
12
Steady on Sam, I read El Gordos comment and it came across very clearly as sarcasm….
As a general comment, with respect to the Left saying anyone who wants the best for their nation as being Hitler-like – its a very cheap ( and dumb ) shot.
Its like saying every mother who wants the best for their kids as being a part of a weird “child cult”….its a ridiculously long bow to draw and quite frankly, a very stupid one.
But hey – the Left is part cut anyway, and really cant be reasoned with…..
50
Well, I’ll taker that as a clip under the ear for having the temerity of calling el gordo out.
Carry on chaps.

Except for if you’re male or female, in which case it’s what you believe you are.

The troposphere is extremely sensitive to ENSO. This shows the temperature changes of the tropopause over the southern polar circle. This shows that the troposphere under the influence of changes ENSO expands and shrinks.

The average surface temperature can not change quickly because the average pressure at the surface of the Earth is generally constant and can only change when the mass of the gases in the troposphere increases significantly. This is determined by the force of gravity.

They could be right el gordo, for a change. I remember similar conditions in the SWest land division in the 70s. A few horrible droughts then, too.

Do you think June will be warmer than May in Australia?
http://www.nsstc.uah.edu/climate/2017/may/MAY_2017_map.png
00
More importantly, will June in southern Australia be warmer than average? I don’t know.
Is the STR intensifying?
If so, then we might as well pull up stumps. This from a 2009 SMH story involving the Klimatariat.
‘Dr Timbal said that 80 per cent of the rain loss in south-east Australia could be attributed to the intensification of the subtropical ridge. The research program covers the Murray-Darling Basin, including parts of NSW, all of Victoria and parts of South Australia.
‘Monash University’s Neville Nicholls, a lead author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who has also published work on the subtropical ridge, said he believed the research program’s results were right.
“We did think that the loss of rain was simply due to the [rain-bearing] storms shifting south, off the continent,” Professor Nicholls said. “Now we know the reason they have slipped south is that the subtropical ridge has become more intense. It is getting bigger and stronger and that is pushing the rain storms further south.”

El Gordo look at the jetstream range.
http://www.intellicast.com/Global/Satellite/Infrared.aspx?region=hiausat&animate=true
00
Michael Mann says the wayward jet stream is caused by human induced global warming, a theory without substance.
In the Austral winter the sub tropical ridge (high pressure) is normally seen closer to the latitude of northern NSW, but now its all over the place. Is this a global cooling signal caused by a wonky jet stream?
To my knowledge the blocking highs are not a global warming signal.
00
The position of the sub-tropical ridge during the warmer summer months (November to April) is generally located in a latitude south of Melbourne. Which is where its sitting at the moment in winter, and the ABC weather man says the high pressure has intensified and covers the whole of the continent.
I don’t see extra CO2 as the mechanism for producing this contrarian behaviour, but we’ll have to get cracking to disprove the AGW theory or risk going from nowhere to oblivion.
00
The intensification of the STR is a Klimatariat meme which needs debunking, yet it appears to be happening and we have no answers.

How about a quiet sun throws the jet stream out of kilter, intensifying the high pressure belt?

I’m unable to translate those images into words, perhaps you could flesh it out a bit. Keep in mind you are talking to a scientifically illiterate layman.
What mechanisms intensify the mid latitude high pressure belt?
At the end of last century the jet stream behaved, but now it has taken on the appearance of a stadium wave. Why?
00
Now look at 2015 when the magnetic activity of the sun has increased.
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/stratosphere/polar/gif_files/ozone_hole_plot.png
http://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/solar-cycle-planetary-a-index.gif
The ozone hole has increased significantly since the polar vortex was stronger.
So I ask, is the “ozone hole is stable”?
In 2016 the ozone hole appeared earlier than in the previous few years, but it can be seen that the polar vortex weakened at the end of October 2016.
When the solar wind is dropping over the polar pole, the speed of the polar vortex drops and the noise is generated. This allows for a greater north-south air exchange. That is why there is more ozone over the polar circle.
10
The stronger the polar vortex, the smaller the range. At the same time growing more ice.
00
Okay, it makes sense, I’ll follow it up.
I’m assuming ozone depletion has nothing to do with humans?

00
Karl and Ned deserve a medal if proven right, this from Tallbloke …. mind blowing stuff.
‘It turns out that gravity and the mass of a planetary atmosphere, rather than its composition, are the crucial factors in determining the uplift in temperature the surface enjoys compared to the temperature that the surface would have if there were no atmosphere above it. ‘

Hitler once said “I would like some coffee please” thus everyone who has ever asked for coffee, including this idiot, is a fascist.
More seriously, many if these critics of Trump are quite happy to follow the ideology that led to Mao, Stalin and others killing tens of millions – is that somehow better than using words that another mass-murderer might have used?
130
It’s like breathing the same air. How dare he!!!

“they are not laughing now”
What makes the comment from Abramsky ridiculous , indeed laughable, for anyone with a British background is that it immediately brings to mind the quote from the late Bob Monkhouse a well known comedian on TV and radio .
He used to say that when he was a boy he told his relatives he wanted to be a comedian – at which they laughed. Well, he said, they are not laughing now.
260
Yes, that was my first thought: he compered several games shows but he was in his element at standup, especially at company do-s. My parents went to one and they couldn’t breathe because they were laughing so much – he put in a lot of effort to acquire company news to make his jokes relevant. He wasn’t that bad the TV either.
Those were the days when, if someone asked you for a double entendre, you could give them one.

I look forward to seeing any level of Australian government pursuing economic policies with the aim of helping, or at least not hindering their own citizens.
Does that mean I like Hitler…?
160
Helping or, at least not hindering, Australian citizens? Crikey James,as a fellow geologist you should know that certainly doesn’t apply to us. After all we are Caucasian males that are working in the vile resources exploiting industries destroying the future for our grandchildren and causing great grief for Gaia! No, no, no: the right thinking inner-urban Green Left will request, nay demand, that Australian government policies should always deter and delay activities that are alien to their ethic. Wealth creating industries that pay for schools, hospitals and pensions are just, like, soo——– crooked, doncha know.
161
Having a zealous desire to stop people using speech that you don’t approve of and then repressing that speech using intimidation, laws or violence is exactly what fascism is, all Marxist based political systems eventually rely on some form of fascism to control the masses for when a person liberty has been completely erased their focus is entirely on the ruling class analysing every move they make, instead of having a free vote next election to exercise change the repressed will react as their masters do, then the cycle starts again.
Anyone working in education that believes free speech should be stopped has no business being there, they should work for the MSM.
131
Speech repression is a characteristic of several political movements, and not unique to Fascism. Fascism’s defining characteristic is the government control of privately-owned means of production. All the rest is societal control.
20
MSM, yes. ABC specifically. And most of them do.
51
What is it with these snowflakes and their demented ranting?
Are they afraid they will melt if the world gets a little warmer?
If that is the case then they need to stay in their air-conditioned buildings but will put more life giving gas into the atmosphere, oh woe, what to do.
Maybe the best thing to do is ignore them completely, something they can’t stand, and just tell the truth, again something they can’t stand.
194
All I do is show me the scientific proof of global wamring….they have a tendency to shriek at you, then disappear in a puff of scientific logic….
Reminds me of when Dorothy threw water on the wicked witch…..”I’m melting…I’m melting….”

This article by Sasha Abramsky (whoever the hell he is) is pure left wing gutter politics consisting of slanderous namecalling and vile inuendo. There is no attempt to offer serious debate or genuine argument into President Trumps action of taking America out of the Paris agreement. It’s all about namecalling and character assassination. It is a sign of how low these people will sink to in their desparation to maintain the status quo of catastrophic climate change.
GeoffW

Abramsky is a Politics, Philosophy and Economics product of Balliol College Oxford and studied journalism at Columbia University.
Does that give you any clues?
(Apart from him being a politically philosophical reporter with a bent for economising … or a philosophically economical political reporter … or a … 🙂 )
80
… or a Prep: Politicised Reporter with an Economical Philosophy.
50
Well I know what to call him but I wouldn’t make it out of revission.

Insufferable Mr. King from Kipling’s Stalky & Co was also a product of Balliol. It takes 300 years to build a tradition.
00
There is a good number of issues on which President Trump may be legitimately criticised, but they all pale into insignificance beside the only one that really matters — he is not The Anointed One of the American kingmakers. Worse — he defeated the Anointed One in a relatively fair contest where he wasn’t supposed to have a chance. Consequently, pretty well anything he says or does is going to be represented as wrong in the prostituted Press. No amount of logical reasoning will improve his position. To achieve media popularity (and shore up his electoral popularity) he can use a combination of luck, guile and political nous or he can cave in and do as he is told by his ‘betters.’
President Trump’s personal unpredictability makes his present predicament interesting, as there may be some odd way that he can prevail. Still, the odds are against him succeeding.
68
Its precisely because the media and polls all said he couldn’t win that a lot of people gave him their protest vote. Another accident of history, perhaps.
Michael Moore is certain all the left/green blob has to do is bombard Donald with satire day and night to force him out of office in shame and humiliation. It might work, but I think he is made of tougher stuff.
A recent high ranking defector from North Korea said the best way to bring Kim down is with satire, without actually explaining how this could be achieved.
60
[Trump] … is not The Anointed One of the American kingmakers.
And that is his strength.
“Anointed” politicians work to a script, that is prepared for them, by the King-makers. They are no more than actors playing a role. They do not need to understand the deeper meaning of what they are expected to say, nor have any concept of what the end-game of their puppet-masters, might be.
Trump is not beholding to any political puppet-masters, as far as I am aware.
As long as he continues to focus on what would be best, for the average working American, in any, and all, decisions he has to make, then he will remain unassailable.
If I can work that out, then so can the people who like to think that they run the country. I imagine that there will be much gnashing of teeth, in various mansions around the country.
It must really gall a lot of establishment politicians that an outsider, who has not been fully indoctrinated into the cult, can pick up the average working class in America, and start using them to restore a more equitable status quo.
It is great theatre.

You are spot on, as usual RW!
Trump is the first president elected that never held office, was never in the military or held a government job. Although George Washington ran unopposed he, like Trump, wasn’t bought and paid for as is every politician that ever came down the pike.
BTW, what ever happened to Godwin’s Law? Did it go the way of the climate models? You know, something that doesn’t serve its purpose to further the cause so it must go gently into that goodnight?
131
Godwin’s Law slunk away into the shadows as the Usenet users retired. The same will occur with the climate models. At the end of the day, somebody will have a well-fed dog.
The subject matter and focus of Godwin’s Law, is about as relevant to the twitterati today, as Attila the Hun was to the invention of the pressure cooker.
30
Nah . . disagree.
I reckon his unpredictability is accepted quite readily and comfortably by his supporters.
That same unpredictability is very scary to the left because they seek control and can’t find a way to get that control.
90
It’s simple really. Just listen to what the man says, he tells you what he thinks.
The Left and media are confused because they are not used to “Truth” being spoken. They are used the people saying comfortable things to the electorate and doing the opposite; So that they can report what was said but know within that they’ll hurt and oppress.
But Trump says one thing and means it.
41
The latest mental contortions from the left surround Trump asserting the wording of “travel ban” after various pressers saying it wasn’t.
The MSM, of course, are trying to make that mole hill into a mountain.
Meanwhile, Trump supporters aren’t very interested in the semantics because they know what he means.
Hilarious.

It doesn’t surprise that Sasha has been a lecturer in journalism. Explains why my TV is retained only for footy and cricket. Explains why I’ve forgotten what a newspaper looks like.
Sasha should take care. Some of his statements co-incide exactly with certain utterances by the Boston Strangler and Charles Manson. Apparently all three have been heard to say “pass the salt”.
By the way, it looks like Kathy Griffin and Bill Maher will be able to join the Blackshirts…on the grounds that people USED to laugh at them.

Possibly as a result of too many Hollywood type characters in our cultural diet, we tend to paint people as either ‘100% good’ or ‘100% bad’.
While Hitler is definitely someone in the overall ‘Bad’ category, it would be wrong to say that he did not do any good at all. The rise of Hitler, and possibly WW2, was made possible by two factors: the Depression, and the League of Nations. Hitler’s positive contribution to revitalizing post-Depression Germany were very real, the only problem being that he took the idea of racial superiority way too far.
The quotation “It is intolerable for us to be the puppets of other nations and to have them prescribe for us, for example, what economic policy we are to pursue. We are carrying out the economic policy which is most advantageous to the German people.” would be perfectly normal for any leader faced with severe interference in their country’s internal affairs, to the extent of what Germany had to put up with from the League of Nations.
The other bad guy, Stalin, by virtue of ending up on the winning side, has never had the bad press that Hitler’s memory receives, and his name has rarely been invoked when trying to portray someone as the ‘Bad’ person.
The fact that socialism as a viable political alternative not only exists but thrives today, despite a significant portion of our population that can still clearly remember life under Soviet rule, serves to illustrate the extent to which reality has slipped our grasp.
90
Hitler was very kind to dogs.
50
Isn’t this “It is intolerable for us to be the puppets of other nations and to have them prescribe for us, for example, what economic policy we are to pursue. We are carrying out the economic policy which is most advantageous to the German people.”(substituting “British” for “German”) precisely the reason for Brexit? By the same token, it’s the perfect reason for any self-respecting nation to get out of the IPCC and, indeed, out of the United Nations.
50
Sasha must have gone to pieces when Vlad the lad said “Don’t worry, be happy” when asked to comment on Trump removing the USA from the Paris fiasco.

Typical sophistry from the left. When all else fails (and the so called science has) get out the Gordian knot of meaningless prose.
Nought but blather and nonsense!
A British comedian Bob Monkhouse, who wrote some gags for Bob Hope, used this old one-liner many times —

Ooops…

The odd thing is that Hitler presented as a Socialist. It was the Socialist party. Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei. National Socialist German Workers Party. They adopted the same thug tactics as the US left of politics today from shutting down dissent to ISIS style threats like Kathy Griffin. He had Goebbels to play tricks like this and make out the Poles, the Russians and the 2% of Red Sea pedestrians (18C) were the problem. Kathy Griffin even has the unmitigated gall to claim she is the victim of ten year old Barron Trump. All simple reversal.
It is remarkable that Trump as the victor is not assaulting the left, not denouncing them, even Kathy Griffin. He is getting on with his policies, something the Left of politics, the Elites and the university storm troopers are desperate to stop. It shows one side cares nothing for democracy and peaceful debate, one side is threatening death and dismemberment, one side is outraged that they are not in power, but we knew that.
By their silence, this is all encouraged by former President Obama and would be president Hillary, who have no respect for the office at all. Surely they could have said something about the Griffin photo? Like the silence and lies after the ISIS assault on the US embassy in Libya. Clinton and Obama are presenting themselves as brave resistance fighters in their own country, like the ones they unleashed in Syria. After a combined 16 years of Clinton and Obama in power, you would think they would take some responsibility for the utter mess they left.
150
As for Climate Change, that is clearly just a smokescreen like Liebensraum, living space and the consequential need to destroy your enemies, like Trump. The simple test of “The Science” is to get the political views of the person involved. It is not that the right of politics or the middle are told what to think, but no rational person could believe the world is about to melt when the best satellite measurements show the world temperature has not changed in twenty years. It is simply a justification for extreme behaviour. Anyone who disagree is a ‘denier’. I know which side sound like Nazi socialists. Their only defence is that they are really Stalinist Communists.
100
While I agree with all you’ve said I would suggest there’s one statement that might bear a little revision. There is absolutely nothing odd about Hitler presenting as a Socialist. The most ferocious terrors and tyrannies of the last century have sprung from the left. Communism and Socialism are the handiest tools to power that a tyrant can grasp. Those ideologies have ‘impeccable’ goals – justice for the oppressed, equality among all men, the creation of an earthly paradise. Who could stand opposed to those goals? None but evil men. Those goals are difficult to achieve so great power must be given to the state that pursues them. And of course it takes a noble, determined leader to wield those powers effectively, a leader like Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Min and the men of the Kim dynasty. Then, when you add saving the planet from destruction to that list of noble goals think how much power that requires people to surrender to the state. The Ancients were right, evil does come from the left.
90
Agreed. I was subtly pointing out the hyprocrisy of the Left crying wolf. I see no violence by any other group. Trump is not reacting. He is not abusing. He is getting on with the job he was elected to do with a very clear mandate in the Electoral College. That is what they are trying to stop.
This business about the ‘popular’ vote is nonsense, a reflection of the demands of the huge Welfare state which is California.
50
Socialist – focus on the needs of society and hence the people.
Communist – focus on the needs of maintaining the current political order and hence the party, by inference.
National Socialist – focus on the maintenance of the elite, and hence the party.
Democracy – focus on the will of the people, as determined by frequent polling.
There is little consultation in any this. The average voter gets to vote for the system that will do them the least harm. Politicians prefer systems that will do themselves the greater good.
61
The only real difference between Socialism, National Socialism and Communism is the speed with which you find yourself in a “camp” or dead.
90
And one of the early stations on that train track is when you realise they’ve spent all of your money – because they never spend their own.
50
As Margaret Thatcher said,
Seriously, what will the left and the climate cabal do if they succeed and wind up stealing us all blind? Maybe, when the world looks like Venezuela, get real jobs?
70
What have they with the Billions they’ve received so far. UN? Climate Council? Al Gore and his Carbon Offsets?
20
It’s good to see calling socialism, communism, National Socialism , statism, …what they are. I have been attacked on the internet before for not splitting hairs between the various isms. Nonetheless it was Lenin himself that stated- to paraphrase-:’ The goal of socialism is communism.”
It usually works like this:
Socialists get a foot hold but their policies fail to bring about the heaven on Earth they expect.
Indeed, things usually get worse or there comes the time when such ideological houses built on sandy foundations collapse in the economic storm that eventually comes, usually decades later. However, by then there is no longer a sound alternative, because opting out has long been disallowed.
Alternatives are eliminated one by one as the creep sets in soon after the foot hold is obtained. They claim that all they need to make it work is a little more political power and always more funding. “It didn’t work in ____or ____ but we can make it work here, because we are smarter. We just need to get these recalcitrants to get with the program. We need a few more laws, some more nationalization of the economy, some additional restructuring of the tax schedule (picking winners and losers) and (always) more funding, then watch it take off. Just give it more time.” Then each year, or five year plan, they need a little more power and a lot more funding until all power is consolidated in the party and there is no more funding remaining.

Since Trump’s announcement, and the mass exhalation with screaks of ‘woe! woe! and thrice woe!’, and increases in gabfests of the global left, CO2 levels have been pushed to a new highs of 0.042%. Also noted is that at least 2 green political advocates have erupted into spontaneous combustion the with the excess trapped heat.
Are we laughing yet?
41
0.042%! No temperature change. Such a success for the 350,000 windmills? What’s the chance 3,500,000 windmills will make no difference? What’s the chance the CO2 level is set by simple physical temperature and reflects nothing more than a warming ocean because it is not affecting the air temperature. Climate Change is Political Science, nothing more.

I like it Td, particularly the term ‘political science’

The real thing that is upsetting the far-left, is that while Trump is there…
.. they have lost control of the Agenda.
What we need to do in Australia is to get rid of Turnbull and his other leftist labor-lite suckophants…
and find someone with guts to do the same, and take the Agenda away from the far-left.

President Trump is an outsider. His administration is a threat to the cozy set up of the establishment which includes most democrats and some republicans in congress, all of the old press, many democrat appointed judges/justices, many members of academia, and the “deep state” made up of employees of the various agencies, departments, etc. They will do all they can to destroy him and failing that will do all they can to slow and mitigate his actions. The more energy and time his administration uses trying to answer charges, the less time and energy they can put forth to implementing their agenda.
The most visible elements of the resistance are the press and the mostly paid protesters. The insane hyperbole we see from the US press is just a manifestation of this establishment. No charge, no claim, nothing, is out of bounds for them now. Not a speck of evidence required. Manufactured charges welcomed. The fact is what your seeing is desperation. They see their world and their influence crumbling. They’re like a cornered wild animal.
I believe an indication of where all of this is going will be the 2018 mid terms. Usually the party of a newly elected POTUS does poorly in the mid term elections. If the Republicans do well it will be a sure sign that the effect of the all out campaign of resistance by the establishment is failing and that the press has lost even more influence. The democrats are desperate for a win and the press is going to pull out all the stops to help them get it.
51
But your average American voter can figure that out for themselves. And most of them don’t give a fig about what the press says.
Trump has consistently championed the working person, right through his campaign. And has continued to do so.
He has stolen the Democrat’s lunch and dinner, and made friends with their dog as well.
I do love it, when people rewrite the rule-book.
120
I hope your right. The midterms will tell the tale. In the senate races the Republicans have an inherent advantage since the democrats have many more seats up for grabs than the republicans do. I suspect the real indication of where things are going will be in the house races. For those that don’t know the term of a senator is 6 years but the term for a Representative is only 2 years. So every two years each of the 435 members of the House of Representatives has to defend their seat.
30
Only two years for the Reps, that’s extraordinary and clearly a better democracy than in Oz.
11
The 435 members will need to make up their minds on the veracity of the Paris accord.
‘Most Americans oppose President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, with a majority saying the move will damage the United States’ global leadership, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
‘Opposition to Trump’s decision outpaces support for it by a roughly 2 to 1 margin, with 59 per cent opposing the move and 28 per cent in support. ‘
SMH
10
It means nothing if they don’t publish the actual questions, the response ratios against each question, and the geographic demography of the respondents.
It is incredibly easy to cherry-pick, and interpret opinion poll responses, in order to reflect anything you wish. US political party staffers, from both sides of the house, are extremely adept at the art.
80
‘It is incredibly easy to cherry-pick’
Yeah it would be nice to see a poll which offers an alternative viewpoint, I’ll begin the search but I’m not hopeful.
20
Treaties are ratified only in the Senate. The House has nothing to do with that. It takes a 2/3 majority of the 100 Senators for a Treaty to be Ratified. There was no way the Paris Accord would have been ratified. That is why Obama called “an agreement” and why President Trump could get out with no legislation.
10
Additionally, the purse strings are held by the House of Representatives. All allocations of monies must be and payments made through legislation in the House. Obama had no authority to promise so much as one cent at Paris. Much less trillions in perpetuity.
00
The 435 members have no say, only the 100 Senators get to vote on treaties. And I would not believe any polls from the Fake media. I doubt the media was honest in the recording or creation of the poll. They phrased the question to elicit the response they wanted to report.
00
Just thinking!
Is the American and European Left making itself the new “Untouchables”?
There are a heck of a lot of people out there who may not be Trump supporters but who are probably appalled or at least completely fed up with the american left’s shrillness and open and blatantly hate spewing being thrown against Trump, a properly elected American President.
A continuation of this hate openly expressed by the American hard left and gleefully published by the media must be starting to turn a very large number of Americans right off the Democrats and left / liberal political and hard left activist organisations.
Whether the voters would bother to make the trip to the ballot box and vote against the hard Left is open to question but if the Left / Liberals continue on in their current hate spewing manner against Trump then a lot of those voters might well say enough is enough and we are going to try and wipe you and your running dogs in the hard Left political organisations and in your aligned hate spewing MSM right out via the voting booth.
90
Personally I think the Kathy Griffin photo with its ISIS imagery has sharpened the debate. One side is now very black. Even fence sitters are appalled. People on the left and in the media are distancing themselves, not because they disagree but because it identifies their side of politics so strongly with ISIS brutality. All arguments are wasted in the face of such imagery.
Only Jim Carey who has just been indicted himself on a charge of murder and Alec Baldwin have supported Kathy, but by making it far worse. With help like that, you are finished. What is outrageous is who has not come out against such an act. No one in the Democrats from Obama to Clinton to Pelosi has said this picture was dreadful and appalling and a vicious assault on the President of the United States and his family, which it is. Imagine for a second that the head was Barack or Hillary. All credibility has been lost. The attacks on the new President have peaked with this photo.
The whole climate thing has also been undone by Griffin. Just when the Democrats needed to present as outraged (climate) victims, they are the ISIS style villains. Then there was Manchester and now London. For comedienne, her timing could not have been worse. Trump does not need to say a thing, just get on with his job.
150
Of course the tragedies from Nice to London are current and Ramadan has just started. The case is before the Supreme Court which is rushing it through, as needed now. The arguments against a (better) wall, tighter immigration controls and screening will be quite justified in the public eye. The fact that the Libyan mass murderer’s family was accepted as refugees and he came straight from Libya to commit his atrocities demonstrates that Trump has a very good point. He would not have been allowed into the US under the new rules.
However this is a Climate blog. As above, the Climate Conspiracy is severely damaged by the obvious association with this evil. Both are on the same side of politics. It may be the beginning of the end for the credibility of the left with war being declared by their peaceful feminist friends. The political Climate has Changed suddenly.

One of the few people worth listening to on Cable news is Tucker Carlson. You might enjoy this:

Exactly, hiding under the cloak of victimhood. It is the current way. Victims can commit any crimes and act as if they are the wronged party. The same with Climate nonsense. No evidence required.

Apparently there is a correlation between THE number of films Nicolas Cage appeared in, and number of drownings by falling into a pool in the USA. (Perhaps they didn’t like the films?)

I bought the book. Very funny. You can prove anything with correlations, some of them amazingly good but patently absurd. Coincidence is not causality.

In reality AGW is the biggest con since the Third Reich.

Hitler fooled his own people. He promised all the money would really go to making sure every family had a people’s car, a Volkswagen. In fact they were air cooled by his insistence so he could use them as desert gun platforms in North Africa. A few cars were actually built for show but that was a ruse.
Hitler also built huge holiday complexes on the Baltic beaches, for regular holidays for his hard working people. Again they were hardly used and only now nearly 80 years later are being rehabilitated as real hotels. Great location if you like cold water, no waves and a short summer. A bit like Victoria’s bay beaches. Still, it’s all Germany has, which is why they all go to Greece, now they own the place.
To compare Trump with Hitler is just so wrong. If anyone was a warmonger it was Obama, who lit up the banks of the Mediterranean from Libya to Turkey and armed his ‘resistance’ forces. His Arab ‘refugees’ are now lighting up Europe, from Manchester to Istanbul. Then Obama was a man of peace who pulled US troops suddenly from Iraq and gave ISIS somewhere to live. Only the Russians intervened to try to preserve the peaceful status quo and that after Aleppo was destroyed. Still the story is that is somehow all Trump’s fault. Absurd.
Even more amazing was Bill Maher’s insistence that America was also using poison gas (CO2) on the Syrians. Then the war in Syria is due to ‘Climate Change’? Is there no end to their ignorance and blatant opportunism? Climate Change caused the Syrian war?
80
Cause and effect, Tdef.
The Syrian War may be the root cause of climate change. You can’t prove it was not! Therefore it is true.
Hmm. Putting your self into a mindset of the left, is an interesting exercise.
It must have been what J K Rowling did, when she came up with the idea of The Dementers.
70
Don’t forget that Obama also played a major part in escalating
violenceindiscriminate slaughter in Mexico by supporting a scheme which enabled thousands of guns to be purchased in the USA under full supervision of the ATF, and smuggled over the border. He then invoked “executive privilege” to avoid talking about it.For a coward with a Nobel Peace Prize, he has an astonishing amount of blood on his hands. Mind you, I very much doubt that he loses sleep over such matters.
Then, a similar accusation could be made about Jose Ramos-Horta and Xanana Gusmão – “freedom fighters” who, on becoming leaders of their newly independent country, proceeded to do almost nothing to improve living standards for their own people. Somehow, Ramos-Horta bagged a Nobel Peace Prize too.

Time for a bit of personal contemplation here for each of us after all the disgust and contempt for the rabid left and the Trump haters that has been posted ;
And a very, very strong message below from 2600 years ago to the dwellers of the increasingly putrid Washington swamp who it seems are completely incapable of any introspection about their own hate filled mentalities and behavior and where that their warped and utterly twisted mentality is likely to lead them to.

Also the Italians do not see Mussolini as the equal of Hitler. Far from it. The Italians lost a million people in WW1 fighting the Kaiser and generally wanted no part of this German war. They certainly did not want war with England. Mussolini is still appreciated and his girlfriend. They often feel he was someone who did a lot of good but that Hitler made him a partner, whether he wanted it or not. There was not much choice in it, as the French found out under Marshal Petain. He was also not an absolute dictator and was removed from the job by his own Grand Council and the King himself appointed a new head. Mussolini was imprisoned in a high altitude ski resort.
After the allied landings Hitler freed him from captivity spectacularly using commandos who dropped in by hang glider and he was put in charge of a new German puppet government. I believe this was twisted around to be the plot of the American war film “Where Eagles Dare”. It is very unfair to equate Mussolini with Hitler. They only thing they shared was a love of great uniforms. Adolph had a job after the first war in marketing and learned the importance of self promotion, marketing and imagery, as if that was not obvious in hindsight. Great uniforms, flags, symbols. Hugo Boss did Hitler’s designs.
31
Where Eagles Dare is a British 1968 World War II action film starring Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Mary Ure, and Ingrid Pitt. It was directed by Brian G. Hutton and shot on location in Austria and Bavaria. Alistair MacLean wrote the novel of the same name and the screenplay at the same time.

If they can get him to say “aussgezeichnett–aber stupid”, maybe they’ll be onto something. (Or the third verse of “Lili Marlene”.)

It seems that we have yet to reach peak ‘stupid people’ then. If I want the trains to run on time am I a supporter of Il Duce? Where does that put the Swiss nation as they like their trains to be on time? Are they all closet fascists?

I’m of the opinion that the more affluent a society is, the more stupid its citizens become. It could be education, lack of need to succeed to get an income, or just laziness, or something.

As has been suggested, the volcanoes under the Western ice sheet might be melting ice, but at temperatures from -25C to -50C, it would reform somewhere else.
Other data from GRACE demonstrate the steady increase of most of Antarctica and that would be enough by my calculations previously to produce a 6mm drop in sea level. The fact that there is a balance should not surprise anyone. An Arctic low in sea ice coverage should be matched in time by an Antarctic high means either remarkable coincidence or that the climate modelers do not have a clue.
Biased reports from NASA only take someone with a particular point of view. Yes, if all the ice in Antarctica melted we would drown, or if the sun stopped shining we would freeze or if there was no CO2 we would all die or if we were all taller we would bump our heads more. That is not the sort of helpful scientific advice anyone needs from NASA. Like our CSIRO, it has been politicized from the top down, like most organizations. You want to please your political masters. We will see what NASA is like under Trump.

“At the end of the last Ice Age, the air became warmer and carried more moisture across the continent, doubling the amount of snow dropped on the ice sheet,” Zwally said.

The far left is anything but progressive and adds new meaning to the term tribalism. They keep selling their BS and the voters aren’t buying it. They cannot accept that you can be white, a Trump supporter and not a racist!
I predicted, in a reply to another poster on this website, that Trump would win and the republicans would retain the house. I thought they would pick up seats in the senate but I didn’t take into account that most of the seats up for grab were held by republican incumbents.
The left never learns and as long as they remain in denial they will not take the house back at the mid terms and they will probably lose seats in the senate as many of the seats up for grabs are held by democrats in states that Trump won.
The media is composed mainly of progressives. According to a recent study from Harvard, no bastion of the far right, 93% of the reporting about the president by CNN and others is negative. They will continue to avoid reality as there isn’t a big enough safe place for them to hide and digest the truth.
The day before Gianforte won the special election held for the only house seat in Montana, he “body slammed” a reporter and was down several points in the polls. Bad news that was the final nail in his coffin and also way down in the polls. Seem familiar? They said the same thing about Trump after the Billy Bush tape and the Fox News poll showing him down by four points. Gianforte won by several points.
Gianforte lost the gubernatorial campaign during the general elections just months prior in a red state. When he ran for the house seat he threw in with Trump and despite the millions spent by the democrats in this “referendum” on the Trump presidency the democrats lost, bigly!
Will they learn? Maybe after a few more drubbings at the polls, maybe. After the mid term elections shellacking they are about to sustain they will run another rendition of Michael Dukakis for president and get killed in the general election. How will they fare in the house and senate? That depends on how successful they can be at obstructing the presidents agenda and pushing their disingenuous, dishonest and dastardly narrative!
70
How many election cycles did it take republican voters to learn? The thing that did the job was that by accident the right man ran for president, galvanizing Conservative thinkers at the grass roots level into action at the polls. The Democrats have no equivalent of Donald Trump waiting just off stage.
They will eventually learn but I fear it will take a long time for the right leader to emerge on the political left and right their listing ship.
20
The call themselves “Antifa”, yet they employ fascist tactics. They claim Trump=Hitler, by using Hitler’s tactics.
And the worst part is, they do not have the brains to see their hypocrisy.
90
Actually it is the best part. Fortunately they don’t have Dr. Joseph Goebbels yet.
40
who needs Goebbels when they already have the ear of a compliant and complicit media?
30
Must have most of the family though. All the CAGW case is propaganda, wholly propaganda, and nothing but propaganda. The IPCC has had twenty seven years and spent uncounted millions of $$’s to find the evidence and prove it, and they’ve FAILED. It’s all propaganda.
10
I suppose that if I even shake hands with someone I could be accused of being a Nazi white supremacist since Hitler is known to have shaken the hand of numerous men during the time it took him to build up his power and seize control of Germany. Perhaps even breathing can get me into trouble since Hitler obviously was breathing up until his death. 🙁
Must the political discourse around the world descend so low as this because of the election of one man? Please, all you supposedly sane, intelligent, critical thinkers out there who are doing anything but sane, intelligent, critical thinking, take a break or better yet, a cold shower. Do whatever it takes to cool off and get a grip on the fact that you’re not doing anyone or anything any kind of benefit or good at all. What you’re doing is simply making fools of yourselves. You only win the support of other fools that way.
Maybe as an alternative to the cold shower you can get a worthwhile life. That will keep you occupied enough that you won’t worry about what Trump is dong, you don’t bother the rest of us and you’ll enjoy your time on Earth a whole lot more than you do now.

Ian,
Without needing to read very far I can see that some others besides you and me understand the real problem. And that real problem is that Trump understands about enough about the science of global warming as he does about the art of politics and if his understanding of both were to be combined and put in your eye it would never bother you.
That’s the price we pay for electing a new broom in the hope he’ll do the clean sweep he promised he would. And as for the future, well… nothing stays around longer than a bad idea.
I content myself that the right decision for right now has been made, even if for less than the full best reason and I gladly kiss Paris goodbuy.
I note with interest that Trump has surprised me a couple of times. His method of fighting back hard has kept the opposition off guard and very worried. Where it will all end up is only going to be known for sure as it unfolds.
I don’t like all the finger pointing and name calling and I wish Hillary would get a cork stuffed in her mouth by someone with enough brains to understand the reality that she killed her own presidential aspirations years ago. Put a Cleopatra costume on her and she would be the Queen of De Nile in the epic film of the same name. Bad pun I know. But it’s sometimes the only way I keep myself on an even keel.
00
Don’t worry, you can just as easily be accused of being a Nazi white supremacist by not shaking hands with people. After all, Hitler refused to shake hands with non-Germans, and in the end, refused to show up to any medal ceremonies at the 1936 Olympics…
10
Do you think any of the numbskulls subscribing to this nonsense understand how foolish they look?
By the way, even if I was a white supremacist, which I am not, I would not be a Nazi, not even for all the money George Soros is rumored to have.
00
Those folks are already doing the sane thing (even those that do not like Trump). However, there are no “sane, intelligent, critical thinkers” doing the crap that is being done. The election of Trump has emboldened the lunatics to come out and proclaim themselves. And they are doing a very good job of it.
The irony of the fate of the Brown Shirts after 1933 is lost on these idiots. But fear not, they will be gone (not tamed, just disappeared) when they get their way.

Sarcasm is the key to understanding these days, Phil. 🙂

Preliminary results of Fink inquiry not good, as expected.
He theoretically supports coal but ONLY with carbon (dioxide) capture and storage (CCS). (He is meant to be a scientist or engineer but calls carbon dioxide “carbon”.)
Labor supports the proposal and it is called the LET, low emissions target.
Coal with CCS is useless and expensive (and probably not doable at all, the liquid CO2 occupies about twice the volume of the coal burned to make it and it uses something like 40% of the power output). Coal with CCS means no new coal power stations – guaranteed.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/miners-attack-finkel-reviews-lowemissions-target/news-story/971dda15a40ed7d30035e0db99f01627
QUOTE
“The Finkel proposal seems deliberately designed to exclude new low-cost super-efficient coal generation that is slashing emissions in dozens of countries around the world, including in Japan, Germany, China and Southeast Asia.”

They also are calling this “technology neutral”. What does that even mean?
31
I think it means it’s not ‘technology unneutral”. And this will insure there is no technophobic commentary to deal with.

Your comment prompted me to think of this deliciously disruptive action; namely make a formal complaint to IEAUST regarding this man’s meddling in a subject outside his area of expertise.
The I went to find him in the register and he’s not there!
I recall his utterances relative to questions posed by Malcolm Roberts some time ago and I think there is enough to present a case.
Not, however if the guy isn’t even a CPE.

“…both Hitler and Trump used the word “laughing” therefore Trump is a neo-Nazi”
I’ve seen that kind of logic many times before, especially from lefties. It’s well expressed in the “logical” howler which goes:
“This dog has fur;
Cats have fur;
Therefore this dog is a cat!
But then, since when have lefties been concerned about logical fallacies and howlers?

I think Obama once said that he believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
Channelling Margret Court perhaps?

Yes. Didn’t that Wong chap once say the same thing, before St Julia successfully led a No vote campaign against SSM? She will almost certainly go down in history as the last PM to vote against SSM.

ABC Radio National “Breakfast” program today finds space for all of the following, but not for any Coalition Govt spokespeople, or any potentially CAGW sceptical voices. i’m not listening:
ABC Breakfast: What’s a ‘low emissions target’ and can it help resolve Australia’s energy impasse?
The chief scientist Alan Finkel is widely expected to recommend the Federal Government adopt an expanded, technology-neutral version of the renewable energy target, as a way to bring certainty to Australia’s climate policy.
The Government’s Climate Change Authority has backed this approach, known as a Low Emissions Target. So how would it work?
Guests:
Danny Price, Managing Director, Frontier Economics
Tristan Edis, Director, Green Energy Markets.
everyone here knows Tristan’s views, & here’s a little on Danny:
8 May: ABC: Eastern seaboard consumers could see electricity prices rise by as much as 30 per cent by June, expert warns
Four Corners By Michael Brissenden
The lack of a carbon price is paralysing investment in Australia’s energy sector and putting domestic power bills on track to surge by up to 40 per cent, experts have warned.
The policy vacuum is also raising questions about whether Australia will meet its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement, with the Energy and Environment Minister admitting that the aspiration for net zero emissions by 2050 is uncertain.
Consumers on the eastern seaboard could see retail electricity prices rise by as much as 30 per cent by June, energy expert Danny Price told Four Corners.
“It is an unprecedented rise. That’s simply because there’s a shortage of supply in generation and that’s simply because the market can’t respond because of the lack of any carbon price,” he said.
Mr Price is the architect of the Emissions Intensity Scheme (EIS), the one carbon pricing plan that after a decade of argument has emerged with the broadest support…
“If an Emissions Intensity Scheme had been put in place customers would have been seeing a price reduction in absolute terms,” he said…
ABC Breakfast: Will a Low Emissions Target end ‘climate change wars’?
Momentum could be building for a long-awaited breakthrough on Australia’s approach to combating climate change…
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says Labor will take a constructive approach to the Finkel review in a bid to end the ‘climate change wars’ which have been raging for the past decade.
Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Mark Butler told RN: “It’s beyond time the national parliament came to a view about what the long term energy framework would be.”
Guest: Mark Butler, Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy and National President of the ALP.
ABC Breakfast: United Nations hosting its first Oceans’ Conference
Less than a week after President Donald Trump announced he was pulling the United States out of the Paris climate agreement, the United Nations is hosting its first ever Oceans’ Conference in New York.
The aim is to find solutions to some of the toughest problems facing the oceans — that includes coral bleaching, plastic pollution, overfishing and rising sea levels.
Guest: ***Peter Thomson, President of UN General Assembly in New York
***u can guess what Thomson might have had to say from the following:
5 Jun: Phys.org: AP: Edith M. Lederer: UN chief warns oceans are ‘under threat as never before’ (Update)
The five-day conference, which began on World Environment Day, is the first major event to focus on climate since President Donald Trump announced last Thursday that the United States will withdraw from the landmark 2015 Paris Climate Agreement—a decision criticized by Bolivia’s President Evo Morales and other speakers…
***General Assembly President Peter Thomson, a Fijian diplomat, said “the time has come for us to correct our wrongful ways.”…
And he said increasing human-caused carbon emissions are not only driving climate change but causing rising sea levels by warning the oceans and making them more acidic with less oxygen which harms marine life.
Thomson said the conference probably represents the best opportunity ever “to reverse the cycle of decline that human activity has brought upon the ocean” and spur action to meet the U.N. goal for 2030 to conserve and manage the ocean’s resources.
—-
theirABC – fair and balanced as always.
10
***”thousands” expected to attend:
2 Jun: UN News Centre: UN poised to open summit on world’s oceans; outcome will ‘call for action’ on ocean health
“Human activities are having major impacts on the ocean, affecting everything from the viability of marine habitats to the quality and temperature of the water, the health of marine life, and the continued availability of seafood,” the UN organizers said about the event being held 5 to 9 June.
The Ocean Conference, the first ever such summit convened by the UN, will focus on the targets outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by Governments in 2015…
***Thousands of people are expected to attend – including heads of State and Government, civil society representatives, business people, as well as actors, and ocean and marine life advocates…
A big showing is expected from small island developing States, particularly from the Pacific Islands, and from African coastal States, which are on the frontlines of climate change and whose economies are particularly vulnerable to changes in the oceans and marine life.
The current President of the UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson, said he is “very confident” that there is an appetite to take action to aid oceans and marine life…
“Every second breathe you take comes from ocean-produced oxygen. Without a healthy ocean we’re in deep trouble; whether it’s food, whether it’s our climate, we have to have the integrity for the ocean, the source of life,” Mr. Thomson told journalists yesterday in New York…
The Secretary-General of The Ocean Conference, Wu Hongbo, who is also the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, said Member States have already hammered out the final text of the conference – which will include 22 specific actions to be taken.
He noted that climate change action taken by the international community is unstoppable, and needs global support: “If you drop a plastic bottle anywhere near your sea, it may end up in some other places. So all these seas and oceans are connected; so regional or individual action seems very weak. We need global solutions to the global challenge.” …

That’s an easy one! 🙂 From the first tweet after Trump got elected.
43
But THEY AREN’T LAUGHING NOW.. are they, phlop. . 🙂
They are whimpering and whining. 🙂
Much to every rational person’s delight. 🙂
64
Your lack of awareness has just scaled new heights.
35
No Gee, on evidence it is at its normal rather sad low level.
But the phsycology of this is fascinating. 🙂
RW chatterers are generally getting nervous, and their underlying fear driven responses are cutting in.
Quite naturally of late they have had a “game over, we won, so you lot of lefty losers should just lay down and die” attitude, particularly fueled by Trumps presidential win. Have a look back over other issues and its a typical response from people who are basically insecure and scared when they have anything that they find encouraging to latch onto. They blow it up, and forget / dont want to know, that politics / social matters are continuously dynamic with swings of influence back and forth from time to time.
Trump and his undeniable influence (for good or ill) have actually made that dynamic move a LOT faster and created a LOT more in the way of transient distractions. Which suits them. Keep up the skeer and confusion to try to keep any opposition off balance and fragmented.
Very interesting times we live in……..but there is still humor, black or not, to be found. 🙂
43
Poor phlop lives in an alternate reality.
No wonder he feels so scared and confused.
Poor petal. !
32
btw Phil… I’m not LW but then I’m not a RW chatterer. Too many like Andy are only in it for the winning feeling and not to make a difference. Be good both/all sides could find a way to expunge the cheer squads.
35
“I’m not LW but … blah, blah ….”
We all see your inner pain…
… and you don’t even realise it.
So sad, and really quite pathetic.
24
Don’t worry, just dig deep and admit it to yourself, even if not to those around you.
It will set you free.
24
Let us all see you type it , Gee, show you are not a far-left patsy..
come on…
Say you are GLAD Mr Trump is destroy the Paris Agenda.
I know I am. 🙂
44
Much agreed Gee.
23
Goodbye then Gee..
Goodbye, phlop.
To as you say….
… be the first to leave.
bet you don’t. 😉
31
Stop whimpering Gee.
You poor sad little clown.

lol.
Bait taken and case closed

Poor child.
How sad are you now Trump is in and destroying your little religion.
Trying to RATIONALISE your pain.
roflmao !!
24
Must be sad for you poor leftist sacks to know that Trump can play you with a single tweet.
Oh dear.. so sad. !! 🙂
If I recall, the only thing you Marxist wannabees has done since Trump was elected is wail and cry, and generally carry on like a pack of tantrumised 5 year olds.
44
Thankyou for validating my observations @ 36.1.1.1 AndyG55.

Try to keep it together phlop.
Pretend you are all ok. !

Going back to the beginning…..
‘At what point does America get demeaned? At what point do they start laughing at us as a country?’
And Phil replied ‘That’s an easy one! 🙂 From the first tweet after Trump got elected.’
—————-
The green/left zealots see Trump as an easy target and satirists everywhere are doing their best to demean the President of the USA, not sure if its unprecedented but the communications revolution is really speeding things up.
Donald would be wise to give up his addiction with the twitter sphere, it may inadvertently cause a strategic disaster.
12
The green zealots like phlop are HURTING.
He just isn’t mann enough to admit it to himself.
USA was certainly a laughing stock, and a punching bag, under Obama.
The leftists may still be able to feign a laugh, or an inane giggle…
… but they know that they no longer have a punching bag to deal with.
32
‘The green zealots like phlop are HURTING.’
Its not my observation, both the pseudo Marxists and Beijing Marxists see Donald as a gift from heaven.
‘… but they know that they no longer have a punching bag to deal with.’
If he doesn’t employ Happer, Curry and Bjorn Lomborg before Xmas then he has lost my support.
13
Obama was the gift.. bent over for them whenever they wanted.
42
Certainly the Beijing ones. Trump is the best thing to happen to China, politically in a long time.
And good that while i was off doing real life stuff for a couple of hours, to come back and see our resident wind up toy AndyG55 is still wound up and running in circles. 🙂 go you go girlfriend!! xx
22
And poor phlop is still in his fantasy world, giggling inanely.
Poor petal….
Off you waddle and find a safe space, where the hurt of Trumps actions don’t cause you so much pain.
22
“The green/left zealots see Trump as an easy target and satirists everywhere are doing their best to demean the President of the USA”
That’s all they have to work with, but its water of a duck’s back.
Trump is LAUGHING at them, taunting them…. and they know it. 🙂
No wonder the leftist scammers and their low-end operatives are so upset..
..they have lost their control over the Agenda. 🙂
31
@El Gordo – It has just gotten progressively worse. It was bad with Bush 43, but that did not stop the election of Trump, so they figure no one is listening (not many are – except their chorus). That is why an idiot like Griffin thought it was funny to imitate ISIS. Of course the victims of ISIS did not think so. And now she is whining about being “picked on”.
Boohoo.

former BBC reporter, Richard Black, now the director of the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit:
5 Jun: ClimateChangeNews: Richard Black: Trump hasn’t actually left the Paris climate deal. Not yet
Despite the headlines and Donald Trump’s rhetoric, the official US position remains unchanged and where things go from here are unclear
So, let’s assume for a moment that the White House writes a letter to the UN climate convention next week declaring its intention to pull out of the agreement, but says that before it takes its Stetson and goes home entirely it’s prepared to enter into meaningful negotiations with other countries about getting a ‘fairer deal’.
Under the agreement, the letter wouldn’t count as a formal notice of withdrawal because the earliest a country can lodge such a notice is three years after the agreement came into force. That means November 2019…READ ALL

even worse than “unknown”:
5 Jun: CarbonBrief: Robert McSweeney: Video: Tropics to see ‘unprecedented’ climates under future warming
Without action to curb CO2 emissions, more than a third of the world could face climates that are different from anything observed anywhere today, a new study finds.
The research, recently published in Environmental Research Letters, follows hot on the heels of a recent paper in Nature Climate Change, which looked at how global temperature rise means that billions of people will experience climates that are “unusual”, “unfamiliar” and “unknown” in the future.
While the new study is similar, it goes a step further by considering how rainfall is likely to change in the future, as well as temperature.
Co-author Dr Erich Fischer, from the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science at ETH Zürich, presented the study at the recent European Geosciences Union General Assembly in Vienna. Carbon Brief caught up with him to discuss the research, which you can see in the video clip below…
The researchers had started out looking for “climate analogues”. This means identifying climates that already exist somewhere in the world today that match the future projected climate of a particular location.
But what they found was that large areas of the world had no climate analogues. In other words, their projected future climate was like nowhere else on Earth at the moment…

5 Jun: Australia’s high-cost power a stark contrast to US prices
by Robert Gottliebsen
In the US they have decided on a low-cost energy strategy whereas Australia has embraced a high-cost strategy and looks to go a lot higher…
One of the largest manufacturing site selection advisory firms in the US, Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Co, in co-operation with its Asia-based partner firm, Tractus Asia, has found that the US now has huge cost advantages over China — the reverse of the situation two decades ago.
In particular, median electricity prices for industrial loads in China tend to be materially higher than those in the US, depending on which locations are being compared. US electricity prices on average are 34-49 per cent lower than Chinese prices, with point-to-point comparisons varying between a 15 per cent and 70 per cent.
That differential is likely to increase.
Whereas in recent times Australia’s power prices have gone through the roof, in the US they have been stable. Australian power prices are therefore at least twice the level of the US and given the recent jumps may be a lot higher. We are also substantially higher than China and India.
Given that US power costs are also much lower than most parts of Europe the cost advantage plus the lower taxes is making Wall Street very excited…
Now we are set to have a report from the chief scientist on the issues. It looks like he has woken up that renewable energy must have expensive back-up plants like batteries, hydro and gas and that these back-up facilities must be costed into the investment in renewables.
South Australia hit blackouts because this was not done and NSW and Victoria still face that risk because they made the same mistakes as South Australia, although NSW has taken steps to mitigate the risk. Victoria is also taking steps but reckons on hot days the wind will blow whereas on NSW hot days the wind usually does not blow. What an incredible difference to US policy.
The chief scientist appears likely to recommend a pricing structure to cover the increased costs of the required facilities. The higher cost of energy security is to be funded with even higher electricity prices (concealed by artificial arrangements) or via government borrowing allocated to a subsidy.
Our power costs are already way above China and India — let alone the US— and are set to go much higher. If we borrow to subsidise power costs we will lose our triple-A credit rating and we will be forced to pay higher interest rates.
It is not a pretty picture and I have no doubt that when Rex Tillerson and James Mattis evaluate our defence preparedness they will be stunned at the vandalism that has taken place to our electricity costs and security…
They will feel much better when they arrive back in the US.

VIDEO: 4 Jun: Daily Caller: Michael Bastasch: Fox News’ Chris Wallace Confronts Al Gore With His Failed Global Warming Predictions
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace confronted former Vice President Al Gore on his 2006 claim that unless drastic action was taken humanity would face a “true planetary emergency” in the next decade.
“Unless we take drastic measures the world would reach a point of no return within 10 years,” which Gore said would precipitate a “true planetary crisis” due to man-made global warming.
Wallace pointed out it’s been 11 years since Gore made the claim in his 2006 film “An Inconvenient Truth,” and there doesn’t seem to be a planetary emergency.
So did Gore admit he was wrong? Of course not!
GORE: “Well we have seen a decline in emissions on a global basis. For the first time they’ve stabilized and started to decline. So some of the responses for the last 10 years have helped, but unfortunately and regrettably a lot of serious damage has been done.”…

2 Jun: ClimateCentral: Brian Kahn: Carbon Dioxide Set an All-Time Monthly High
Carbon dioxide peaked at 409.65 parts per million for the year, according to data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It’s not a surprise that it happened. Carbon dioxide levels at Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii peak in May every year…
Mauna Loa Observatory crossed the 410 ppm threshold for the first time in recorded history in April. The May average is almost exactly what UK Met Office scientists predicted it would be in their first carbon dioxide forecast…
The reading from May is well above the 407.7 ppm reading from May 2016. And it’s far above the 317.5 ppm on record for May 1958, the first May measurement on record for Mauna Loa, the gold standard for carbon dioxide measurements. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide stood at roughly 280 ppm…
The new carbon dioxide high water mark follows a report released last week showing that last year, the world saw its second-biggest annual leap in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It’s second only to 2015, a year in which El Niño helped boost levels. Both years saw jumps that were roughly double the increase seen in 1979 when the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration started keeping the index…
Even if they have peaked, emissions still need to get down to zero to stave off the worst impacts of climate change. Until then, each passing year will see a new carbon dioxide high.
http://www.climatecentral.org/news/carbon-dioxide-all-time-monthly-high-21507

Al Gore is at it. “the truth is still inconvenient for the large carbon polluters. And they don’t want to stop the polluting of the atmosphere.” Carbon polluters.
If we are talking down elements of the periodic table, the two outputs of combustion are carbon dioxide and oxygen dihydride. So the real pollution is oxygen. What Gore fails to realise is that Oxygen is the problem. Big Oxygen polluters. Even Nitrous Oxides from diesel. There should be an Oxygen Tax.
Renewables do not generate noxious Oxygen compounds, so it supports his argument for Green energy. Stop the Oxygen polluters before the world is covered in water!

6 Jun: Australian: John Durie: Some in Canberra still playing catch-up on energy policy
The policy part of Chief Scientist Alan Finkel’s electricity report to be released at Friday’s COAG meeting has corralled a broad spectrum of support, from big business to the ALP.
The only recalcitrants so far are a handful of people from Mr Frydenberg’s own party, who are plainly living on another planet.
AGL, Energy Australia and Origin, the big three electricity retailers, are devoting all their marketing to renewable energy use even if they are still the biggest users of coal-fired power.
***The reason for the duplicity is that their customers want to know they are using renewables and support them.
The bottom line, according to the electricity companies, is simply that the great majority of Australians support a push to a lower carbon policy and if the LET is the best way of achieving this, then let’s go for it.
That is certainly the attitude voiced by everyone from the ALP to the Business Council of Australia…
The aim of the review is to get more reliable electricity ***cheaper and that is best achieved through more supply.
The good news is more supply is coming by the bucketload with over $8 billion worth of renewable energy being installed with potential power totalling four gigawatts, or nearly three times the output of the doomed Hazelwood power station in Victoria…
Business is already putting a price on carbon and in time Canberra will catch up to the fact the market is moving well ahead of policy once again.

all reporting on the following is short on the Adani quotes, while riddled with anti-coal activist quotes, except for Courier-Mail. however, as soon as I excerpted this bit, the page went wobbly and I couldn’t copy a thing, so I had to go to the PTI report in Asia Age to get it all:
6 Jun: Courier Mail: John McCarthy: Adani Carmichael mine gets green light
ADANI has finally given the go-ahead to the first stage of the $US16 billion Carmichael megamine paving the way for thousands of jobs in central Queensland.
Adani chairman Gautam Adani gave the “green light” for the rail and mine development overnight, as forecast by The Courier-Mail.
After more than six years of fighting its way through the approval process Adani also announced the mine development deal with Downer Mining and rail construction will be done by Aecom, which will base about 70 people in Townsville.
6 Jun: Asian Age: Press Trust of India: Australian coal mine projects receives thumbs up from Adani
This is an historic day for Adani, a historic day for Queensland, and a historic day for the Indian investment in Australia, he said
Melbourne: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani today gave the final investment approval for the Indian conglomerate’s controversy-hit 21.7 billion dollars coal mine project in Australia which had hit several roadblocks over environmental concerns.
“I am proud to announce the project has Final Investment Decision (FID) approval which marks the official start of one of the largest single Infrastructure and job creating developments in Australia’s recent history,” Adani said.
This is an historic day for Adani, a historic day for regional Queensland, and a historic day for the Indian investment in Australia, he said. The announcement comes just days after the Adani Group agreed to pay royalties on coal produced from its project after it struck an agreement with the Queensland government to help the controversy-hit project move forward.
“This is the largest single investment by an Indian corporation in Australia, and I believe others will follow with investments and trade deals,” the Adani Group Chairman said.
“We have been challenged by activists in the courts, in inner city streets, and even outside banks that have not even been approached to finance the project. We are still Facing activists. But we are committed to this project,” Adani said, adding that the group is committed to Queensland and to addressing energy poverty in India. Adani said the Carmichael projects will generate 10,000 direct and indirect jobs with pre-construction works starting in the September Quarter 2017.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today officially opened Adani’s Regional Headquarters (RHQ) in Townsville from where the company will oversee the construction and operations of the project.
The regional headquarters will also accommodate Adani’s Remote Operations Centre, the first time that such a centre has been set up in an Australian regional city. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was represented at the ceremony by the Federal Minister for Northern Australia and Resources, Senator Matt Canavan.
Adani Australia Head of Country and Chief Executive Jeyakumar Janakaraj said the company has already invested 3.3 billion dollars in the project, including buying the bulk coal handling port of Abbot Point.

6 Jun: Qld Govt: Media Statement: Premier and Minister for the Arts, The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk
Resource development policy delivers jobs with Carmichael investment decision
The Palaszczuk Government’s policy to require all greenfield coal, mineral and gas projects in three basins to pay royalties in full with interest has been endorsed with confirmation the Carmichael Coal mine and rail project in the Galilee Basin will proceed.
Speaking from Townsville, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Government’s resource policy for the Galilee and Surat Basins and North West Minerals Province put strict requirements on project proponents.
“Opening up these three regions for development has the potential to support thousands of new jobs that are needed in regional centres along the coast as well as in outback Queensland,” the Premier said.
While in Townsville, Premier Palaszczuk officially opened the regional headquarters of the Carmichael Coal project.
It has been only six months to the day (6 December 2016) since the Premier met with representatives of the project to confirm that:
•regional headquarters and remote operations centre would be based in Townsville;
•a rail and port operations headquarters in Bowen;
•mining services based in Mackay;
•rail maintenance and provisioning yard in the Mackay-Bowen region;
•project sourcing centres in Townsville, Charters Towers, Rockhampton, Emerald, Clermont and Moranbah; and
•the shortlist for the fly-on fly-out (FIFO) hub is Townsville and Rockhampton, with a decision pending.
“Most significantly at that meeting, I secured agreement that the workforce for the Carmichael Coal project would be sourced from regional Queensland and it will not use foreign workers on 457 visas,” the Premier said.
“This means there will be more jobs for Queenslanders and importantly more certainty for investment in North Queensland.
“What we are seeing with the opening of this office, is a real presence on the ground here in Townsville, and a strong signal that this project is committed to regional Queensland.
“Three months ago, I led a delegation of regional Queensland Mayors and travelled to India to seek the earliest possible investment decision and start for the project.”
“With the final investment decision announced, I welcome contracts being completed for early suppliers to the project in regional Queensland and I urge the start to early works to support even more jobs for Queenslanders.”

As noticed by others, media comments now repeat the idea that CO2 is a pollutant, except that they have switched to “Carbon” pollution, as if there is a lot of Carbon floating around. Carbon dioxide is not mentioned.
organic chemistry
noun
the branch of chemistry that deals with carbon compounds (other than simple salts such as carbonates, oxides, and carbides).
So organic chemistry is solely about carbon compounds, the foundation of all life. Perhaps we should ban organic compounds and stick to carbon free inorganic. Inorganic food like granite or sand or basalt. Inorganic eggs anyone? Inorganic rice? The only comparable ignorance was the decision of Greenpeace to ban the element Chlorine. So no salt, no PVC for plumbing and again no people.
It makes you wonder how devious Al Gore can be when he talks about big ‘Carbon Polluters’. The clear belief of Gore and friends is that if you repeat something often enough, people start to believe it. How could we have a world without organic chemistry? Anyway to be consistent, the Greens need to demand a law against organic food. Carbon is the problem.
40
During and after the Kyoto Conference only “greenhouse gas emissions” were blamed as a problem.
“Carbon pollution”, CO2, became the target much later in the scare campaign.
30
I would also like to remind politicians and other scare campaigners that most if not all developed nations have laws and penalties against polluting. Environmental Pollution Agencies to enforce the laws.
So if the EPA is not doing the job why are taxpayers burdened with the costs involved in an exercise in futility?
30
It is incredible now that Obama is urging people to eat smaller steaks, that Greens now consider cows pollution. Add camels, elephants, tigers, foxes, millions of kangaroos, caribou, even polar bears and penguins. Especially ruminants eating grasses and outputting methane, 30x worse than CO2. They have to go. Get rid of the billions of birds too. All carbon polluters emitting vast amounts of carbon compounds, even made from the stuff. Insects as well from butterflies to ants. All big carbon polluters. They should be ashamed. Tax them all.
So life on earth itself is the problem, every living thing carbon polluting, including even the plants at night when they respire.
All because of a fear that the world will suddenly boil away into space? At what point after thirty years of this amazing story from people like Obama do people start to ask when the sea level is going to rise or the temperature go up enough that it makes any difference at all to anyone? Where?
The real question is does the former President of the United States actually believe what he is saying?
60

5 Jun: PennEnergy: AP: Wasted green power tests China’s energy leadership
BEIJING (AP) — China’s scramble to curb pollution has made it the world leader in renewable energy development, yet increasing amounts of that green power have gone unused as the country struggles to integrate wind and solar farms into an outdated and balkanized electricity network dominated by coal.
The problem threatens to slow China’s progress in clearing its air and controlling the greenhouse gas emissions that make it the top contributor to climate change. It also could hamper any desire among Chinese leaders to fill the leadership gap left by President Donald Trump’s move to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate accord.
As energy ministers from around the globe gather in Beijing this week to promote renewables, China’s difficulty maximizing its green resources reflects the challenges they face over how best to transition to cleaner electricity.
“They installed too much too fast,” said Qiao Liming, China director for the Global Wind Energy Council. “A real market should allow electricity to flow between two provinces. That is currently lacking” in China, she said…
China’s sprawling power grid has been unable to handle the influx of new electricity from wind and solar, while some provincial officials have retained a preference for coal.
In western China’s Gansu province, 43 percent of energy from wind went unused in 2016, a phenomenon known in the energy industry as “curtailment.” In the neighboring Xinjiang region, the curtailment figure was 38 percent and in northeast China’s Jilin province it was 30 percent. The nationwide figure, 17 percent, was described by Qiao’s organization as “shockingly high” after increasing for several years in a row…
However, experts say wasted energy will continue to be a drag on Chinese renewable power potential until the country’s electrical grid is modernized and provincial officials end their preference for coal, which provides almost two-thirds of the country’s energy.
The problem is worst in winter, when many coal plants provide electricity for the power grid and send out excess heat to keep homes and businesses warm…
“On paper they express quite clear attitudes to promote renewables, but in reality they promote coal interests,” said Frank Yu, a renewables specialist with the consulting firm Wood Mackenzie…
Still, the problem of electricity going unused could get worse before it gets better, said Liutong Zhang, a senior manager with the Lantau Group, a Hong Kong-based energy consulting firm. More solar and wind is planned in Chinese provinces that already have more power-generating capacity than they use. Additional coal plants also are slated to come online, Zhang said…
Western countries have experienced their own renewable struggles as utilities tried to integrate weather-dependent wind and solar power into electricity grids built around coal plants, which are more polluting but also more reliable…
Almost all of the increased electricity demand in coming years is expected to come from developing nations, according to projections from the International Energy Administration.
China alone will account for about half the total.
???China’s struggles to maximize its use of renewables won’t necessarily prevent it from meeting international emissions targets that aim to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. But it will make it much more expensive unless China is able to adapt its power supply system while it’s still in development, Zinglersen said.

First time on Jo Nova. Did some time on Jennifer Marohasy’s blog a while back.

Where did Hitler keep his armies? Up his sleevies.
Isn’t a comparison to Hitler and the Nazis a sine qua non of trying to win a debate/argument through propaganda? Climate alarmists study those kinds of ad hominem attacks because they have no data or facts to conduct a proper arument.
The fact that Trump is the target of such emotional, violent reactions is proof he is hitting the right buttons. I don’t support his social values but I can’t think of a better person to end this inane political correctness that has invaded science and the world in general.
It doesn’t say a lot for the politically correct when they offer such a violent, hysterical response to being one-upped. I think it reveals who they truly are, a load of prima donna, wastes of space.
Good on you Jo for your work revealing the flaws in the catastrophic climate change propaganda. Same for Jennifer Marohasy and Judith Curry. Anyone who can rile the clown prince of climate science, Michael Mann (actual he’s a rock basher…a geologist) as Judith can, to the point where he is forced to make chauvinist, sexist comments about her, has my vote.

5 Jun: WindPowerMonthly: Low winds in Europe hit developer earnings
Dong’s operating offshore wind farms produced 2.1TWh of electricity in Q1, hampered by lower wind speeds in January, but still a record quarterly production total…
Ebitda in Iberdrola’s renewables division fell 5% in Q1 compared with last year, on the back of low wind speeds in Spain and the UK. Iberdrola posted net profit of €827.6 million in Q1, a fall of 4.7% year-on-year, but said it expects to reach its 2017 outlook…
novel length and EXTREMELY NASTY, not to mention DISHONEST:
2 pages: 2 Jun: DerSpiegel: Paris Disagreement: Donald Trump’s Triumph of Stupidity
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other G-7 leaders did all they could to convince Trump to remain part of the Paris Agreement. But he didn’t listen. Instead, he evoked deep-seated nationalism and plunged the West into a conflict deeper than any since World War II.
By SPIEGEL Staff (Christian Esch, Konstantin von Hammerstein, Julia Amalia Heyer, Christiane Hoffmann, Horand Knaup, Peter Müller, Ralf Neukirch, René Pfister, Christoph Scheuermann, Christoph Schult, Samiha Shafy and Gerald Traufetter)
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was the last one to speak, according to the secret minutes taken last Friday afternoon in the luxurious conference hotel in the Sicilian town of Taormina — meeting notes that DER SPIEGEL has been given access to…
“If the world’s largest economic power were to pull out, the field would be left to the Chinese,” she warned. Xi Jinping is clever, she added, and would take advantage of the vacuum it created. Even the Saudis were preparing for the post-oil era, she continued, and saving energy is also a worthwhile goal for the economy for many other reasons, not just because of climate change…
“For me,” the U.S. president said, “it’s easier to stay in than step out.” But environmental constraints were costing the American economy jobs, he said. And that was the only thing that mattered. Jobs, jobs, jobs.
At that point, it was clear to the rest of those seated around the table that they had lost him. Resigned, Macron admitted defeat. “Now China leads,” he said…
Still, it is likely that none of the G-7 heads of state and government expected the primitive brutality Trump would stoop to when announcing his withdrawal from the international community. Surrounded by sycophants in the Rose Garden at the White House, he didn’t just proclaim his withdrawal from the climate agreement, he sowed the seeds of international conflict. His speech was a break from centuries of Enlightenment and rationality. The president presented his political statement as a nationalist manifesto of the most imbecilic variety…
Climate change means that millions are threatened with starvation because rain has stopped falling in some regions of the planet. It means that sea levels are rising and islands and coastal zones are flooding. It means the melting of the ice caps, more powerful storms, heatwaves, water shortages and deadly epidemics. All of that leads to conflicts over increasingly limited resources, to flight and to migration…
Yet international agreement on the Paris accord was only possible because it contains no punitive tools at all. The only thing signatories must do is report every five years how much progress they have made toward achieving their self-identified climate protection measures…
Therein lies the absurdity of Trump’s histrionics. Nothing would have been easier for the U.S. than to take part ***pro forma in United Nations climate-related negotiations while completely ignoring climate protection measures at home — which Trump has been doing anyway since his election…
Berlin officials say that EU member states are eager to move away from fossil fuels, as are China and India…
China has been reducing its coal consumption for the last three years and plans for over 100 new coal-fired power plants have been scrapped. India, too, is abstaining from the construction of new coal-fired plants and will likely meet its goal of generating 40 percent of its electricity from non-fossil fuels by 2022, eight years earlier than planned. Both countries invest in solar and wind energy and in both, electricity from renewable sources is often cheaper than coal power…
Much more commitment, much more decisiveness is necessary, particularly in countries that can afford it. German, for example, is almost certain to fall short of its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent by 2020 relative to 1990…
The bad thing about Trump is not that he criticizes partners, says a confidante of Angela Merkel’s, but that in contrast to his predecessors, he calls the entire international order into question…
When Trump began attacking the Germans behind closed doors in Brussels, it was Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, above all, who sprung to the chancellor’s defense. Participants say it was alarming how many NATO members kissed the ground before Trump — and not just the usual suspects from Eastern Europe.
Merkel has many fans. She is the star among liberals around the world. The leftist American press had already begun declaring her the new leader of the free world even before Trump’s election. In an opinion piece this week, Britain’s Guardian heaped praise on Merkel, noting that “her statesmanship, her ease, her ability to broker deals and relationships is ever more impressive.” But her glorification in the press will do little to help in her test of strength with the world’s most powerful man.
And what about China?…Now China also wants to become the leading nation when it comes to climate protection. But officials in Merkel’s Chancellery aren’t harboring many illusions when it comes to the new partner…
That Saturday (June 17), Merkel plans to fly to Rome, where the pope is hosting a private reception for Protestants. The chancellor wants to present Pope Francis with the goals of her G-20 summit in Hamburg in July… It doesn’t require much imagination to believe that the two are on the same page when it comes to Trump…
“It is inconceivable that the pope did not discuss climate change in his conversation with Trump,” says one person close to the Vatican who has intimate knowledge of Francis’ thinking. But it doesn’t appear to have done anything to help.

Murdoch’s NY Post was pro-Trump during the election campaign. so why on earth would they publish this? a CAGW poll from Reuters/IPSOS???
it is so unbelievable in so many different ***ways.
it’s an online poll, with Dems way over-represented and it even manages to have a sympathetic MS sufferer to exploit in a round-about way. none of it rings true. CNBC has just posted the story too and, no doubt, it will be all over the MSM by morning:
6 Jun: NY Post: Reuters: Majority of US wants ‘aggressive action’ on climate change: poll
Most Americans believe the United States should take “aggressive action” to fight climate change, but few see it as a priority issue when compared with the economy or security, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.
The June 2-4 opinion poll suggests American voters may not penalize President Donald Trump too harshly for walking away from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, even if they would have preferred he keep the country in the deal.
The poll found 68 percent of Americans want the United States to lead global efforts to slow climate change, and 72 percent agree “that given the amount of greenhouse gases that it produces, the United States should take aggressive action to slow global warming.”
***Even so, Americans rank the environment near the bottom of their list of priorities for the country. ***Only about 4 percent of Americans believe that the “environment” is a bigger issue than healthcare, the economy, terrorism, immigration, education, crime and morality, Reuters/Ipsos polling shows.
“I just kind of feel helpless about it,” Dana Anderson, 54, of Mesa, Arizona, said about climate change. “If something happens to the environment, it is what it is, right?”
Anderson, who has multiple sclerosis, said that whatever Trump says about healthcare will matter to her much more than his thoughts on global temperatures…
The poll also showed 50 percent of Americans believe global temperatures will rise faster as a result of the U.S. withdrawal from the climate deal, and 64 percent think U.S. relations with other countries will suffer.
The public was split over the decision’s economic impact, too, with 41 percent saying it will strengthen the economy and 44 percent saying it will not.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted ***online in English throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,398 Americans, including ***459 Republicans and ***635 Democrats.

6 Jun: Australian: Judith Sloan: Which dunce led us to this power impasse?
For the time being we are stuck with the objective of achieving a 26 per cent to 28 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030 relative to 2005. Note that this represents between a 50 per cent and 52 per cent cut in emissions per capita — another downside of having such rapid population growth — and Australia accounts for just 1.3 per cent of total world emissions. The Abbott government should never have agreed to this way too high target. The figure should have been 20 per cent, maximum. The fact is we had a very weak environment minister, Greg Hunt, a weak bureaucracy and vested interests that influenced the minister.
Other countries happily sign up to high emissions reduction targets knowing full well they will never meet them. Australia takes its Paris commitment seriously…READ ON

5 Jun: World Coal: Australia: all eggs in renewables basket?
As reported by the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA), the coal industry has expressed concern regarding reports that the Finkel review may rule out the building of modern coal fired power stations and push Australia to focus solely on solar, wind and gas.
Coal fired generation is currently the cheapest and most reliable electricity source in Australia.
An energy blueprint that strays away from coal generation or deliberately excludes its contribution in the future means higher prices and less reliable electricity for everyday Australians, industry and businesses.
Coal should not be deliberately cast aside from the energy mix especially as it is well placed to compete on merit and deliver on the Prime Minister’s correctly identified priorities of affordability, reliability and low emissions.
Looking to the future, modern super-efficient coal plants could still figure prominently and remain the mainstay of the country’s electricity system alongside other energy technologies.
Both Japan and Germany anchor their electricity production with affordable, reliable and low emission coal generation, as do the fast-growing economies of Asia with some 1200 high efficiency low emissions (HELE) units under construction or planned in the region…

5 Jun: Queensland Times: Andrew Korner: New jobs at Swanbank with power station revival
UPDATE: The State Governement’s decision to fire up a mothballed Ipswich power station will create at least 15 jobs and reduce our quarterly electricity bill nightmare.
Treasurer Curtis Pitt and Energy Minister Mark Bailey announced the State Government would restart Stanwell Corporation’s 385 megawatt Swanbank E gas-fired power station early next year, bringing it online to increase supply and reduce volatility in the Queensland wholesale market.
The plant has been in cold storage since 2014, with the gas entitlements sold off.
Mr Bailey said increased summer power usage in Queensland and industry uncertainty meant wholesale electricity prices were going up…
Mr Bailey said the announcement was one of a raft of measures announced last week by the State Government to help stabilise electricity prices and boost supply.
“On Wednesday, we announced the government would invest $770 million to remove the costs of the Solar Bonus Scheme from network charges for the next three years after the independent Queensland Competition Authority released its final determination on regulated retail electricity prices for regional Queensland,” he said.
“This intervention will slash the Queensland Competition Authority’s original price increase in half, delivering a saving of around $51 for households and $90 for small business.”…

“Point 1) Default BS about the atmosphere not being the same as a glass greenhouse. Really? Attacking the word “greenhouse” and then concluding that CO2 actually cools the surface? So without CO2 it would be cooler? Good one.”
Read again ‘idiot’! Atmospheric CO2 above 180ppmv must help radiate more EMR to space as tropopause level CO2 and H20 is at a higher temperature due to continual convection of sensible heat from surface to higher altitudes!
“Point 2) Attacking the blanket explanation … by confusing the lower troposphere with the whole atmosphere. There is no convection, etc towards space … that’s an internal thing.”
Atmospheric convection only can transfer sensible heat and latent heat the from the higher temperature surface outward toward space where such is transfered in a manner more efficative, (having an intended or expected effect), via EMR exit flux, than can possibly be done from Earth’s surface!
“Point 3) They don’t understand how radiative energy transfers work. There is no violation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, heat always flows in one direction, radiation doesn’t. It seems like those “chemists” think that somehow a radiating body “knows” that it is radiating towards a warmer object and consciously halts radiation in that direction? If that would work we could use it as faster than light communication. Perfect!”
This clearly demonstrates that you have “no concept” of how thermal electromagnetic radiative flux, at any frequency, may be generated, the limits of such generation, and how the extremely low level of surface EMR flux can possibly influence that exiting to space! Try Maxwell’s 22 equations, for understanding.
This idiocy is tiring!
“Point 5) The -18 °C figure is not correct, but it’s not wrong either. We know from the Moon what average temperature a body without an atmosphere has at our distance from the Sun. It is far lower than what can be calculated with the SB-law, because the Moon rotates slowly. So obviously the correct average temperature without and atmosphere (or without GHGs) depends on more factors, but the -18 °C is at least a temperature in the right direction, it would probably be colder.”
If your fake black-body radiation is limited to (Ta^4-Tb^4), always proportional to the maximum difference in aggregate radiance of two surfaces (including zero difference); how do you propose that some average temperature of one of the surfaces have any possible meaning to the integral (energy), over time of such exit flux?
“The only thing unreal is the paper of theirs. The sentence with the violation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics should have been enough for any reviewer to reject that paper.”
You are the fool that violates the Clausis 2LTD, ‘stuff don spontaneously go in a direction of higher potential’!!!
SebastianH 7. June 2017 at 2:26 PM |
“Or phrased differently one more time: do you think that our Sun is not emitting radiation towards other stars in the Universe that might be hotter than our Sun?”
WOW!
00
Radiance or opposing radiance never changes down to one pico steradian! one angular micro-radian (.00017)degree in each each direction. If you want more precise vector,(direction) we do measure to 1/4 wavelength at the end of 1 km of light distance! Radiance is still the same! Beware “that innocent ‘per steradian (projection)’ at any frequency”
