      Hope on.
The continuing existence of the IPCC is wholly dependent on their continuing rejection of the entire Solar Model. It threatens their very existence, Any different paradigm which does that, and that means the real Solar Model, will be resisted to the utmost. We can guarantee it.

They will remain supremely confident in their own propaganda. What will be interesting is how they slant that.

To most here an IPCC report that’s handed down from ACTUAL scientific work from ACTUAL scientists will be ridiculed and ignored by the dregs of academia, face it most here are too old to accept any new ideas or change in their lives let alone one that affects the world.

              Quite so.

“To most here an IPCC report that’s handed down from ACTUAL scientific work from ACTUAL scientists …”

Guess Julian didn’t’t get the memo.

Don’t fret, champ, the expendable are always the last to know:

“The head of the UN’s climate change panel has defended the use of unproven science to justify climate change by saying the “grey literature” cannot be ignored.”

              http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/environment/7725266/Climate-body-chief-defends-use-of-grey-literature.html

” … face it most here are too old to accept any new ideas”

Perhaps it is the new who have not seen the old ideas regurgitated:

Julian – If I understand the process, and if you are speaking of the report for policy makers, the released “report” is not the scientific (heh) report, but the report that claims to explain things in easy terms for policy makers – it is a layman’s short-version without the caveats and error-bars written by (mostly) laymen and vetted by policy makers before publication – which is what the carnival in Korea was about, vetting the report.

It wasn’t, and isn’t, science. It’s barely based on science.

…are too old to accept any new ideas or change in their lives let alone one that affects the world…

Clothing your litany of judgemental ad hominems, SOP of eco-Marxist globalists, in a thinly clad see-through gossamer of “ideas” and “change” is as intellectually bankrupt as it is transparently ideological.

Hussein promised “change” and America never asked exactly what. The social and political division, inequity, inequality, and exclusion wrought by the Rainbow Cult has nearly wrecked the country as it has the West. The battle lines are now clearly visible, no longer concealed by a fog of political correctness and Alinsky enculturation. The Lefts hijacking of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process leaves most in little doubt what is afoot.

When the choices are clear, the Left unfailingly and inevitably loses.
The withering climatism charade is a good example.

A few years ago my son was gifted a V8 Supercar drive at a Sydney track, his instructor was a CAMS licenced serving NSWHP Officer sergeant. The group were lectured on safety and general driving instruction and asked if they could drive a manual transmission, and warned that if they said yes and couldn’t they would forfeit their drive. Automatic transmission option was available.

My son chose the manual transmission and was taken for a couple of laps driving under instruction while his driving ability and skills were assessed, and then given permission to go for it. The instructor commented from time to time (advice) but did not interfere or call for a slowdown. After some very high-speed laps the driver was greatly impressed with the handling dynamics and speed, and how easy it was to drive when the correct lines and braking/gear changing were achieved. He said to me to imagine driving down a street at 160 kmh and turning hard right into another street without braking and the car sticks to the road like glue.

Afterwards the instructor asked him what he drives day to day, answer at that time: a Pajero 4WD.

Sort of related , I was once treated to a fast lap with Jim Richards as part of a corporate plonker drive day. We were approaching a corner , and I thought gee he is leaving the braking a bit late (we had been driving the track through the day in other cars). By the time my brain was saying “a bit late” , we were going through the corner flat out. OK then, no braking point there at all then. Its an interesting experience going with someone who can actually drive.

This is off topic but then all of this is apparently off topic until tomorrow so I’m proud to announce that about 20 minutes ago the United States Senate voted to Confirm Brett Kavananaugh as associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court.

I remain ashamed of the behavior of some of my fellow Americans and a large part of the senate. This was political circus at its worst. But this speech by Senator Susan Collins will be my choice to down in history alongside that of Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 as one of the most important all time speeches up to now. She was the only one who dared to stand up and show the whole world what honesty and integrity are like under pressure. She spoke almost 45 minutes during which I was dumbfounde by her thoroughness and fearlessness as she laid out the whole case for Kavanaugh and the case against his opposition.

Senator Collins speech echoed around the World. It will serve to underscore the growing gulf between globalist ideology and US liberty and prosperity.

The situation in Australia is similar and there are many examples of crimes being ignored or covered up via political interference and/or partisan judiciary and other sections of government appointed public service.

There have been police fraud squad investigations in Western Australia and Victoria into a union slush fund and monies extracted from a construction company that took place over 20 years ago. Both police investigations were shut down. A second investigation by VicPol spanning several years was shut down after the present state government was elected. Following several years of private investigation and investigative reporting, including publishing on line of documentary evidence that could not be disputed in a court of law, and former police detectives who worked on police investigations, now members of the privately funded and volunteers investigation team, a private court proceedings will be registered soon. One former detective sergeant who was in charge of the WAPol fraud investigation claims that his operation was shut down because of political interference.

The people of interest to investigators include a former prime minister and a serving opposition leader as named many times on line.

All of this can be found at Michael Smith News website.

Consider too the implementation of UN Treaties with the Australian Constitutional Law being ignored. And the latest discovery that the proposed National Energy Guarantee contains a clause that attempts to quarantine politicians from prosecution for ignoring constitutional law. TdeF has posted many times here about the theft that the RET represents, another example of Australia’s “Swamp”.

Americans are arguably Australia’s closest allies and President Trump has acknowledged this. Yet members of federal cabinet including the now former prime minister were critical of the POTUS and sided with his political enemies. The Australian Government has signed and ratified the UN IPCC Paris Agreement and in November 2016 sent a cabinet minister to New York to ratify it in defiance of President Trump’s announcement that the US would withdraw from that Agreement. President Trump is critical of socialism and globalism and has pointed out their unacceptable objectives that include interfering into the internal affairs of UN member nations and sovereignty.

Is it therefore a surprise that President Trump has not yet appointed a replacement Ambassador here?

Our situation is worse than too many Australians know about. There is no longer a two clearly defined party choice for government, Labor and Liberal with Labor supported by the Greens and Liberal in Coalition with the Nationals. The now former prime minister almost succeeded in achieving his long term goal of getting rid of the Nationals and conservative Liberals (Menzies Australian Liberals) and then merging the LibLabs with Labor to form a permanently governing alliance party. His other goal was for Australia to become a republic. And that too had a hidden purpose which was to change the Constitution which he believes is a badly flawed document created by not very astute people. And then, the ultimate goal was globalism and one world government UN. No more sovereign nations. All much in line with the American based globalism agenda that President Trump is tackling.

All masked by compliant ABC/MSM and too few media members prepared to expose what is underway. Even that union slush fund matter has been avoided by them, with a few notable exceptions that includes Murdoch Newspaper Group journalists and 2GB Radio Sydney, and of course Michael Smith who has a military, police and journalism background who was forced to resign from Radio 2UE Sydney when, armed with legal advice, he was preparing to go on air and expose the slush fund affair when management ordered him to stop. And soon afterwards Michael Smith News website began and a now several year new investigation involving many members of the legal profession as volunteer advisors and commentators, and others who have supported him.

          Dennis

          This goes with my in moderation comment;

Hidden in the current Foreign Interference legislation before Parliament is additional legislation that should be of concern to all Australians. It changes Treason offences against our Country. It seeks to change the definition of treachery and “modernise it”. Politicians that undermine the Constitution of the Commonwealth by using illegal lawmaking will no longer able to be prosecuted by law after it is passed. The Attorney’s General Department is simply using Foreign Interference to rush this “modernised” treachery legislation through our Parliament.
According to the Department of Attorney General website under TREASON TREACHERY and OFFENCES against the GOVERNMENT new changes are being proposed to existing legislation.
“The existing offence of treason in the Criminal Code does not refer to modern international terminology relating to armed conflict. Existing offences for treachery and offences designed to protect the security and defence of the Commonwealth under Part II of the Crimes Act are archaic and outdated. Although rarely used, these offences are a critical part of Commonwealth criminal law and are being updated to appropriately reflect the modern Australian context.”

A plan to lower electricity prices?
Vic wholesale price in 2016 averaged $47/MWhr, but in 2017 that jumped to $92 after the closure of Hazelwood. In the 12 months to Sept 2018 the average according to AEMO is still $89, with Sept at $93.
Interestingly, Qld averaged $68 in 2016, and in 2018 is still only averaging $71, but oddly averaged $103 in 2017 (Qld govt influence as the generators are state owned?)
And of course the poster child for “free” wind SA averaged $80 in 2016, $106 in 2017, and for the 12 months to Sept 2018 the average is $96.
Note that these wholesale prices exclude the impact of clean energy certificates that are given to “renewable” generators. (wind, solar, hydro). Those certificates are sold to retailers to meet their contribution to the renewable energy target, and the spot price is around $72/MWhr. That spot price is expected to drop as “renewables” generation is close to meeting the 23.5% share of market by 2020 under the RET.
In Sept, wind provided 1.6 GW on average (range 0.4-3.2) and hydro 2 GW, for a total “renewables” share of 18%.
Meanwhile in WA prices seem to continue to be around $60/MWhr.
Gas prices continue to be around $8-9/GJ, up from $4 back in 2015, but ACCC reports prices for coming summer could jump to $15/GJ.

A question re power and diesel consumption.

I’ve just been up in the NT and that one station has an 85 kva alternator that runs 24/7 and a large diesel tank.

And this is pretty similar with stations etc in the remote parts so there would be quite a few.

Question is – is this use included in the official estimates?

      50

      • #
        Dennis

I have driven extensively in the NT (and remote areas in other states) and noted that diesel generators are the main source of electricity, also observing the large number of fuel transport vehicles up to four trailers in length.

With SA and now VIC using diesel generators to back up the electricity grid it’s no wonder that our strategic fuel reserves are so low, about two weeks I understand.

I cannot answer your question but am interested in reading the answer.

        70

      • #

I do not think any of the small diesels are counted. They do not even count the 3.9MW diesel at Cooper Pedy. When I went through there the locals said that the wind turbine hardly ever worked. It was still and the diesel working flat out. Seems they have added now a second wind turbine (maybe the old one has been retired-supposed total of 4MW) and 1MW of solar panels but the diesel is still required. Total cost of wind and solar with the diesel something like $0.48/kWhr which is more than the old diesel only cost. Seems locals are thinking of opting out and putting in their own system which would up the costs on the council owned system (guaranteed by SA gov.)

        40

        • #
          robert rosicka

Pretty sure the locals spat it with both the govt and local council with many wanting their own stand alone systems but the power company insisted they all be hooked up to its supply .
When we were there last year I believe the impasse had been broken and anyone could do their own system but had to be islanded from the grid .

The WA govt saw that there were no protests in the street in SA and figured that they could get away with jacking up the prices to the same level as NSW/Vic to help pay off state debt.

My understanding of fluid dynamics and friction in fluids is less than perfect for sure. But it makes sense to me that anything like ocean currents and wind are converting part of the Earth’s rotational momentum into heat — kinetic energy —> heat. And that energy transfer must necessarily slow the rotation of the planet.

If I’m missing something please correct me. But I can’t see any other way for it to work.

My argument is simple. Without rotation would we have those currents and winds? Probably not, especially the ocean currents. Then there are the tides.

Interesting question and no doubt more complex than my argument but I’ve thought about it a long time and the answer always comes back the same. Friction in the air or the water is slowing us gradually to a stop. I’ve no idea how to even guess at how long it will take and it my be asymptotic, never quite reaching a stop, just slowing a little bit more forever.

Fortunately you and I will never see it.

Years ago I viewed a video produced by television programme in Mexico, 60 Minutes, regarding a national day of celebration and in the clear blue sky above were 4 objects, not aircraft, hovering. The Air Force sent jet fighters to investigate but the objects were too fast and disappeared, but came back hours later.

The 60 Minutes programme asked viewers who had videoed the objects to send their tapes in, and hundreds were received from any different angles that enabled investigators to view the objects and computer enhance the images for a closer view. They appeared to pulsate or shimmer. It is a long story and fascinating.

However near the end engineers from NASA were shown the images and they commented that the objects were powered by “field propulsion” – magnetic. And added that NASA has been trying to develop that power system for years.

No speculation was made about the origin of the objects which could of course be from this planet.

The speed of these craft is beyond our present capacity to understand, but probably involves some kind of electro magnetism.

The clue might be found in the crop circles.

If they move like something that has no mass then they are something that has no mass. And if they have no mass they are mere illusions, lights or reflections from the ground or the shadow of something on the cloud layer. But they cannot be aliens or anyone else manipulating anything.

It’s easy to make some outlandish claim but quite another to substantiate it.

I may write fantastic things in a story. But it’s fiction and pure fantasy. It only has life of the pages of the book or the movie screen and it’s of no benefit to try to incorporate it into you life.

Whatever the objects were 60 Minutes Mexico obtained hundreds of video images from people all around Mexico City, so many angles viewed.

I had an experience in Queensland about ten years ago in the early evening dining with several other people sitting on a Queenslander style home back verandah. Neighbours called out to us to look up into the sky and there were four objects moving south to north at very high speed, and no sound, just four constant red lights in a one two one formation.

About an hour later another four red lights passed overhead heading north.

              Hi Roy,

              Two things to think about.

If we think about the Earth’s atmosphere, it is effectively held in place by Earth’s gravity.

There should be No friction between the atmosphere and deep space.

If the Sun was absent I can picture the atmosphere being very still.

All the above is describing Earth without the Sun.

If we insert the Sun into the picture we end up with continuous heating and cooling twice a day.

I think Solar energy causes the wind and atmospheric turbulence.

Sunrise and sunset are associated with winds.
              Night is usually much quieter.

Almost right…think of another celestial body that affects the tide….That celestial body used to be a lot closer and orbited a lot faster…with tides higher and more often.

Jonesy, and I call myself a scientist.
Yes the moon obviously pulls the oceans up and must therefore have an influence on the atmosphere as well.

It’s just that I had to ride my bike to school into the morning wind and into the afternoon one as well. It seemed to be mostly the Sun.

                KK,

May I differ with you a little? Wind and ocean currents happen because of coriolis acceleration. And in the resulting wind there is turbulence, therefore friction which creates heat and some of the energy in that wind necessarily comes from rotation of the planet and is converted to heat by the turbulence.

Ocean currents are a similar thing with (maybe) a more obvious mechanism. But in both cases I can’t see how some of earth’s momentum is not converted to heat.

                ———————————————–

As simple as I can make it: The moon doesn’t pull on anything to cause the tides. The earth and moon are a binary pair that rotate together around their common center of mass. That center of mass is inside the planet because Earth is far more massive than the moon but it can’t be at earth’s center as a matter of basic mechanics. And the planet rotates on its polar axis as well as moving with the moon around that common center of mass. The direction down is always toward that common center of mass because again, it can’t point anywhere else. And with the daily rotation the center of mass is moving inside the Earth and water is fluid and is always pulled to that moving center of mass. Hence high and low tides not once but twice a day. On both sides of the planet it’s downhill toward the center of mass. And water flows downhill.

I have found a lot of explanations that are not this simple and not correct. Other gravitational forces also enter into it but the moon and the Earth are the dominant ones.

If I had the means to make a simple animation I could show convincingly how it works. So far I haven’t found anyone’s convincing animation. But understanding simple vectors is all it takes.

Let me know if you disagree. I’m an amateur at this stuff and willing to learn if you can show me what I missed.

                Hi Roy again,

Without looking up the Coreolis effect it may coincide with my earlier comment about the regular origin of wind, the Sun.

I hadn’t really considered the off centre, centre of mass for the dipole Earth/moon rotation but appreciate that it may have some influence.

Tides in our area are about 7 hours between high and low, but that’s from old memory.

I’m pretty sure that the moon is still the main tide influencer and you can see that possibility as it moves across the sky.

High tides are on the near side facing the moon and also on the far side of the Earth directly in line. Low tides are perpendicular to the high tide axis and trail the moon by 90°.

                Now, must look up coreolis.

                Too early in the morning,

The explanations I’m getting for Coriolis are more confusing than useful but the best one is related to the idea of the air peeling off the equator. I did hear about this at school or uni 50 years ago but not being a pilot it wasn’t a big focus at the time. It’s also claimed to create ocean currents.

Obviously it does a good job in explaining hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones but the Sun is a Big mover.

The force that drives the atmosphere and oceans circulation is the coreolis force. Planets with slow rotation, Venus, have less wind and slow circulation.

              40

              • #

I understand that Venus has high velocity winds high in the atmosphere where pressures are similar to earth ie 100 to 10 kPa. Little sunlight gets through to the surface and the surface temperature is high due to the high pressure. At the surface the slow rotation only makes small changes.

PeterS …the lurking spectre of fake-news.

Predictably, UNScientific American has spun the article to highlight alleged climate change. There is in fact tellingly, no mention of ‘climate change’ or ‘anthropogenic’ anything in the abstract or in the article highlights.

I refer to the published abstract of the paper, here.

        The important bits (truncated abstract):

Understanding the origins of this secular polar motion (SPM) has significance for modeling the global climate, as it provides a link to ice mass balance and sea-level rise. A perplexing issue, however, is that while glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) models satisfactorily explain the direction of SPM, the associated prediction of the amplitude is insufficient.

While the convection-driven SPM has considerable uncertainty, the average direction of 283 recent models aligns with the residual SPM (within), significantly reducing the gap between observation and prediction. We assert that one key mechanism for driving 20th century SPM is long-term mass movement due to mantle convection.

        The highlights are as follows:

        • Earth’s spin axis drifted along ∼74°W at a speed of ∼10.5 cm/yr during the 20th century.

        • Glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) explains of the observed polar motion.

Environmental processes plus GIA cannot fully reconcile the observation.

Contribution from mantle convection (MC) is essential to close the budget.

        • Polar motion based joint GIA/MC inversion may help constrain lower mantle viscosity.

6 Oct: GatestoneInstitute: ACLU’s Opposition to Kavanaugh Sounds Its Death Knell
    by Alan M. Dershowitz
◾So why did the American Civil Liberties Union oppose a Republican nominee to the Supreme Court and argue for a presumption of guilt regarding sexual allegations directed against that judicial nominee? The answer is as clear as it is simple. It is all about pleasing the donors. The ACLU used to be cash poor but principle-rich. Now, ironically, after Trump taking office, the ACLU has never become so cash-rich, yet principle-poor.

◾The problem is that most of the money is not coming from civil libertarians who care about free speech, due process, the rights of the accused and defending the unpopular. It is coming from radical leftists in Hollywood, Silicon Valley and other areas not known for a deep commitment to civil liberties…

◾When the ACLU’s national political director and former Democratic Party operative Faiz Shakir was asked why the ACLU got involved in the Kavanaugh confirmation fight, he freely admitted, “People have funded us and I think they expect a return.”…

Now that Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed, it is appropriate to look at the damage caused by the highly partisan confirmation process. Among the casualties has been an organization I have long admired…

Sounds about right. Money can buy you anything except an honest man. And the ACLU has been only a pretense of what they say they are for a long time, far longer than the Kavanaugh circus by many years. Their version of civil rights is called social justice, by which they mean that if I have something and you don’t, what I have should be taken from me and given to you in compensation for my having stolen it from you.

They filled their coffers even while losing the battle and so they will go on into the future spreading everything but civil liberties. How can they lose? Only honest lawmakers, judges and juries can do anything.

6 Oct: Guardian: Wentworth byelection: John Hewson says seat ‘ripe for protest vote’
Former Liberal leader suggests a loss for the party might alter government’s thinking on climate change
PHOTO CAPTION: John Hewson addresses Stop Adani activists campaigning in Bondi on Saturday, ahead of the Wentworth byelection.
    by Luke Henriques-Gomes
Hewson said the Wentworth electorate, considered progressive on environmental and social issues, wanted “a decisive emissions strategy, they want a transition from coal and fossil fuels to renewables”…

Sharma has said he believes anthropogenic climate change is real and needs addressing…
He said on Saturday: “If I’m elected on 20 October, I will be a strong voice in government ensuring that we met our international commitments.
“Better use of technology can help us to both meet our emissions reduction targets and improve energy affordability and security.”

(Kerryn) Phelps said she was “delighted” by Hewson’s comments.
“People are sick of inaction by governments and the Liberals have been paralysed on this for about a decade or more, ***and the Labor policy doesn’t go far enough,” she told Guardian Australia.
Simon Fosterling, a Stop Adani campaigner and Bondi surf lifesaver, said on Saturday Wentworth voters wanted “an MP who will put the community and the future of our kids before coal companies like Adani”…

Amazing that this basic truth is seeping through. A glint of reform at the ABC? Normally you can talk about last week or the Paleozoic…but the climatariat wants all away from the changes of the last few bits of our geological period. Lest we draw obvious conclusions.

Science is supposed to be the province of “Julians”…yet try telling a “Julian” about the realities of recent geological times. This present interglacial is not the warmest of recent ones, and this warming blip within our present interglacial is not all that warm.

There may well be a case for preserving the woodland (yeah, I’m one of them) but two things are not making sense here.

First, the Guardinistas are identifying preservation of woodland with opposing coal as if the two made one issue (so it would be okay to hack if it was for whirlygigs?).

Secondly, the article exposes the fact that Germany, despite the absurdity of solar panels at 50+ degrees N, has been expanding its coal at all ends while posturing as a world leader in renewables (which is why the EU trough-slurpers keep the carbon price in the toilet). This Energiewende myth has been circulated by the very luvvies who are all for hambibleibt. Huh?

Of course, as a coal producer we need to learn from German hypocrisy, not condemn it.

6 Oct: OilPrice: Coal Use Rises As Renewables Fall In U.S. Electricity Generation
    By Ron Patterson
The EIA released the latest edition of their Electric Power Monthly (LINK) on September 25th, with data for July 2018. The table above shows the percentage contribution of the main fuel sources to two decimal places for the last two months and the year to date.

For the month of July, the total amount of electricity generated was the second highest amount generated for any single month since January 2013 at 410,148 GWh, 2,302 GWh less than the amount generated in July 2016. Coal and Natural Gas fueled almost 68.5 percent of US electricity generation in July and while the contribution from Coal increased from 27.36 percent in June to 28.18 percent in July, the contribution from Natural Gas also increased by slightly more than five percentage points, reaching an unprecedented 40.28 percent up from 35.02 percent in June. Nuclear power generated 72,456 GWh, 3.97 percent more than it did in June but, due to the increase in total generation, the percentage contribution to the total actually declined to 17.67 percent from 18.77 percent in June.

In July, the contribution from All Renewables at 13.01 percent fell further below that from Nuclear at 17.67 percent, similar to July 2017 when the ramp up of total generation resulted in the percentage contribution from All Renewables falling further below that from Nuclear. The absolute contribution from Solar declined from it’s all time high in June of 10,880 GWh to 10,049 GWh, with the corresponding percentage contribution declining to 2.45 percent as opposed to 2.93 percent in June. The amount of electricity generated by Wind decreased by almost 35 percent, from 24,411 GWh to 15,897 GWh and coupled with the increased total generation, the percentage contribution declined from 6.58 percent to 3.88 percent in July. The contribution from Hydro decreased 13.53 percent from 27415 GWh in June to 23706 GWh, resulting in the percentage contribution decreasing from 7.39 percent in June to 5.78 percent. The combined contribution from Wind and Solar decreased to 6.33 percent from 9.51 percent in June. Consequently the contribution from Non-Hydro Renewables also decreased to 7.23 percent from 10.48 percent. The contribution of zero emission and carbon neutral sources, that is, nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, geothermal, landfill gas and other biomass decreased to 30.68 percent from 36.64 percent in June…

6 Oct: UK Telegraph: Coal plants set to generate highest profits in years as cost of gas spikes
    By Jillian Ambrose
Britain will rely on its dwindling fleet of ageing coal-fired power plants as it prepares to face the coldest winter weather in a decade and the cost of gas hits new highs.
The country’s seven remaining coal plants will be called on more than in previous winters because for the first time in years they are as economic to run as gas-fired power plants, even as global coal prices hit five-year highs.

The cost of gas for this winter reached 10-year highs above 81 pence a therm last week, up by more than half from the previous winter when the average price was less than 50p a therm. The average wholesale gas price last month was the biggest percentage increase for two years, according to S&P Global…

5 Oct: BayNews9: WEATHER BLOG: Some of Tampa’s ‘record highs’ caused by sensor error
    By Mike Clay
In turns out the record highs you may have heard about for Tampa (International Airport weather station) were in error due to equipment problems with the sensors.
The data has been adjusted in the official records (see below). We appreciate the Ruskin NWS office listening to our concerns about the data and the site location.

We still believe the temperature sensor location, next to the highway and near new construction of parking lots and buildings, is giving an incorrect impression of the official Tampa temperature. But if the data is good from the sensor that is one big step in making sure the weather and climate records are accurate.

It would be great if the weather station could be moved to a different location on airport grounds, but this is complicated and expensive. In a conference call with the TV meteorologists in Tampa Bay, the NWS office said they were still exploring alternatives and solutions to this so-called “Tampa Airport Heat Island” growth and urbanization has created…

    …PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT…
Due to a malfunctioning temperature sensor unit within the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) at the Tampa International Airport (KTPA), erroneous temperature spikes were identified during the afternoons of September 29 through October 2, 2018. Therefore, maximum temperatures for these days have been calibrated down to values more representative of the area and the associated weather pattern. Updated Record Event Reports (MIARERTBW) and climate data have been disseminated in regard to these adjustments.

    RECORD EVENT REPORT…UPDATE…READ ON

6 Oct: UK Express: BBC Weather forecast: Temperatures to drop to 0C this weekend as POLAR air ravages Britain
BBC Weather have warned Britain is on track for a dramatic 10C drop in temperatures as polar air splits the country in two over the weekend, bringing “widespread frost” in large areas.
    By Aurora Bosotti
Thermometers in northern Britain will struggle to get over 2C on Sunday morning, with “widespread frost” expected to coat large areas of rural Scotland.
Ms Willets said: “With the winds as well, temperatures 10C down from yesterday, It’s going to feel much colder. It will feel colder elsewhere even with the sunshine because we are in this band of chilly air at the moment, behind this weather front…
***Despite the cold weekend snap, long-range forecasts from the Met Office suggests October could be very hot before a colder front swoops in with freezing temperatures…

Heading into November weather experts claimed we could then see temperatures reach lower than usual, especially overnight.
Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden warned the UK could be hit by four months of snow: “November is looking like a mixed bag of weather this year and there are signs that amidst stormy weather will be the first proper snowfall, temperatures for the month are expected to possibly be below average.
“All our long-range projections have been showing for quite some time that December is likely to be a colder than average month overall and we are expecting several widespread snowy periods early in the month.
“The period between Christmas and New Year is looking interesting as there are likely to be some major low-pressure storm systems hitting the UK and these will clash with much colder air over the country bringing potentially crippling snowfalls and ice storms.”…

As people here would be aware the government has ordered Barracuda Submarines from France, a nuclear powered design with water pump jet propulsion. These will be redesigned for diesel-electric power for the RAN. They will cost five times as much as the German Submarine offered. The original front runner was a Japanese Submarine with convention diesel-electric power supported by the US supplying advanced technology for the RAN Submarines. Close to signing the contract, the Abbott Government favoured the Japanese-USA offer and, after all, both countries are Australia’s allies and a defence treaty was signed between them, similar to the ANZUS Treaty. So why EU subs and the most expensive of all?

Andrew Bolt has questioned Defence Minister Freydenberg who waffles resulting in Bolt looking at him in disbelief.

The reason for posting this here is the primary reason why the French subs were chosen: the RAN must operate in the Indian Ocean which is cooler???

If so, what has that got to do with submarine operations, are there now special northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere ships? And therefore, why by from the northern hemisphere?

If so, what has that got to do with submarine operations, are there now special northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere ships?

Pretty much. Wor to do with water temp and salinity. Designs are optimised for their likely areas of operation. Say we bought an A26 off the Swedes? Some mods needed as that designed for the Baltic.

Japanese bid was the worst of the lot. Hull construction tech pretty much old school and the tech has moved on. They just launched one with no stirling and LIBs though.

You might find that the French had been persuaded to pull out of certain Russian contracts (though too late to stop Russia getting plans of the hardware) and dump to some chopper carriers meant for Russia in the specials bin for Egypt.

Now, the French and the Thales-connected builder of the Barracudas expected a favour from NATO. Did NATO know any globalist automaton types with a history of doing favours for…I dunno…maybe I’ll have a light bulb moment.

Well, the bad news is that the oiler subs are a woeful deal. The good news is that they don’t exist and probably won’t exist. Also, the borrowed money only exists when you have to pay some of it back, but if you borrow more non-existent money to pay back the money which never existed…

5 Oct: Forbes: Is There A Warming Temperature-Increased Snowfall Paradox?
    by Brian Brettschneider
(Brian Brettschneider is a climate scientist in Anchorage Alaska. His PhD is in Environmental Geography with a focus in Climatology. He conducts climate research for the University of Alaska Fairbanks at the International Arctic Research Center and contributes climate and science stories to the Alaska Public Media Network (APRN). He is a sought after resource for station-based data within North America)

Clearly, the overwhelming vast majority of the map is represented with orange and red dots. This means lower snow totals occur with warmer temperatures nearly everywhere…
Only in very cold climates do we see areas where warmer winters have more snow. Here, the paradox works like it was envisioned…

The warm winter-greater snowfall paradox seems to have worked out along the East Coast in recent years though; but has it really? The December-February temperate chart for Boston (below) shows the strong relationship between temperature and snowfall. Warmer winters mean less snow. There are always exceptions to the rule though.
***It just so happens that the biggest exceptions have occurred in recent years…

The appointment of Judge Kavanagh to the US Supreme Court is a win against the odds of one of the most vicious smears in American history, totally without evidence or corroboration and everyone knew the purpose. What is amazing is that Kavanagh is an utterly fair and balanced judge without prejudices and therefore he was not acceptable to the Left of politics. Why?

We get the same in the faux Climate science where really qualified scientists are howled down, fired, driven from the stage, people who get paid nothing for their honest and expert opinions. This by non science faux experts like Flannery and Gore and so many others who get their fame and earn their incomes from the 30 year old Climate crisis they promote.

How is it possible that people who have no relevant science qualifications have a louder voice than superbly qualified people, that someone with no knowledge of meteorology can be Australia’s Climate Commissioner or where so many people with a clear conflict of interest can claim that they are experts in Climate. Even that climate has nothing to do with meteorology. It all beggars belief.

So it is good to see an honest decent family man and very fair man survive some of the vilest accusations possible when everyone on both sides knew they were made up and why. He fought back. That was the defining moment. Plus the fight was taken to the world via the internet, particularly with Breitbart and against the might of the assembled media, including in this case, Fox news. So there is hope logic and truth will prevail. Great. The tide may be turning.

I think any of the people who smeared Kavvanagh, without proof of thier claims, need to be legally taken to task for defamation, and that applies to any politician involved. Drag them out from thier rocks…..

Some of the Democrats need to be pursued to the maximum penalty under law, and make exampkes of them. Its one thing to offer proof, its another to slander and get away with it. And they need to pursue these lefty jackals and deal with them uf they have done anything illegal, or the USA will be seen as allowing rule of law to collapse and letting anarcist Communists run amok.

And the chasm between the rabid “progressives” and the conservatives deepens. The left have absolutely no interest in whether the accusations are true or not, they claim that being a male it doesn’t matter, if he is innocent he just collateral damage.

The demon-rats have taken the US another large step towards civil unrest in a population that has always shown a willingness to solve their differences at the point of a gun.

Well here is the thing, and lets be real about this – if the rabid faction of the Left takes on the USA majority who are sick to the back teeth of PC, the lunacy of gender nonsense, the crushing badness of the Obama years and unemployment , what do you think will happen when the Leftists pick a physical fight with the long suffering armed majority by screaming in thier faces?

Its going to be quick and brutal, and the Left will be routed. History tells us the only way to remove communists is to crush them.

I abhor violence, the Left are rabid and will start it, and it will be fast and horrific, but i think the conservatives ( and most police and armed force people ) are right wing, so I think the Left will lose, and Liberty will be preserved….

    Birdlife countering the Harvard study!

5 Oct: Birdlife.org: Location, location, location: how to reduce bird collisions
Wind energy has an incredibly green image. Yet placed in the wrong locations, wind turbines can harm birds and bats. The solution: strong science and technology that helps to avoid this unnecessary damage
    By Margaret Sessa-Hawkins
From almost every perspective, wind power is one of the most environmentally friendly energy sources…
The best way to avoid negative effects on birds is to ensure that wind turbines are placed in locations without sensitive species…

BirdLife International has also worked in partnership with Conservation International, IUCN and UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre to launch the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT), a subscription-based web resource…
