A 28 year old guy in British Columbia thought it had some message about climate change if he sealed himself in a primitive biodome with 200 plants. But the sun didn’t shine, the plants didn’t photosynthesize enough, and he “felt sluggish”. CO2 levels were a bit high so he had to abandon the experiment just 15 hours later — calling it “a huge success”. As you would, if you had no connection to actual hardship, or actual success.
The BBC thought this badly planned, unscientific stunt failure was newsworthy and lauded him his 15 seconds of fame and advertising for the cause. Proving that any kind of measurable achievement is irrelevant. If it promotes the religion, anything will do.

A self-styled “whimsical scientist” who locked himself in an airtight dome with 200 plants to raise awareness of climate change has ended his experiment.
He thanked fans and described the experience as a “huge success”.
While still inside the dome, he explained his mission in a Twitter thread, writing: “#ClimateChange is real, we’re causing it, and it’s a real big deal.
Hmm. He doesn’t say what his “abort” value was in ppm.
“The messed up thing about my experiment is that some of my abort values (eg If CO2 is too high I escape) are just everyday experiences for many people on this planet. Everyone deserves clean air, but not everyone has it.”
So he pushed his body to withstand levels of CO2 that other people experience every day. Indeed “many” people. Give the man a medal.
It is hard to find a bar set lower than that. It might mean more if he had half a lung, or was really an axolotl.

There is some poetry in him being foiled by clouds. It’s the only part of this experiment similar to climate models.
“It did end sooner than I expected, but that’s okay,” Kurtis told the Press Association.
“Environments are complicated things, and it’s easy to be too optimistic about your predictions.”

And you need to take into account that plants respire at night,taking in oxygen and releasing CO2. Not as much CO2 as they take in during the day, but you will need more plants than you originally thought of to have a surplus of oxygen.

The controlling factor is the oxygen pressure on the lungs. Submarines work at higher pressures than sea level International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) of 1013.25 Mb. Carbon Dioxide levels can be maintained at these pressures at a much higher level than ISA. Air pressures can be raised to a safe level of 8,000 ppm CO2 almost indefinitely. Just Thinkin’ #6.2 is undoubtedly correct on the maximum level of CO2 of 9,000 ppm. Any air pressures above this, and N2 (Nitrogen) can be adsorbed into the blood stream – with potential disastrous results – ‘The Bends’.

Is it CO2 or lack of exercise? You cannot run in place because the sound is ryhtmatic and can be picked up by sonar. You cannot lift weights because a drop would cause the same problem. One is left with squats, pushups, sit-ups and etc. I only spent 10 years and my arteries are 10 years older than I am. I have run marathons, ridden several RAGBRAI and ridden 2000+ miles for 15 years. CO2 or sedate life style?

The standard in Australia Was 5000ppm back in the late 90’s. Working at a winery on a still night during peak fermentation the whole place would be greater than 5000ppm. The oxygen concentration would be around 20% so it seems that the CO2 was displacing nitrogen first. We just kept on working and ticking the boxes that said yes on the odd time that we filled out a confined space entry form.

Given the approximate exhalation concentration of 40,000 ppm there still remains a small margin of use but I imagine that the breathing rate may be a bit faster.
Under normal conditions we breathe in 400 and breathe out 40,000 which gives an exchange rate of 1 to 100.
I wonder if our bodies can produce CO under some circumstances.

The so named Climate Sensitivity, the temperature rise to be expected from a doubling of the so called pre-industrial levels of CO2 reputedly at around 280 ppm but claimed by the researchers of the 19th century who did good science on this , those pre-industrial CO2 levels were closer to an average 320 ppm.
After 30 years and a few billions of dollars spent on modelling and papers written, the climate scientific mob still haven’t derived an acceptable to all climate sensitivity number .
The “consensus” now being around the Climate Sensitivity number for a doubling of CO2 levels is now much closer to 1.5 degrees increase if that, with some “experts” estimating climate sensitivity down to close to one degree increase in average global temperatures witha doubling of pre-indiustrial CO2 levels rather than the original IPCC 1980’s /1990’s claims of 2.5 to 4 degrees increase from a doubling of CO2 from pre-industrial levels of 280ppm.
As the increase in temperature with the increase in CO2 is a logarithmic formula, most of supposed warming takes place with the initial increase in temperature with the final percentages of CO2 increases providing almost no warming at all.
As most of the warming, if it has occurred and IF it was due to increased CO2 , has already happened and as we are now well on the way to the 520 ppm which is the theoretical doubling of the the 280ppm of the pre-industrial CO2 levels, not much can be expected in the future re increases in average global temperatures from the further increases in global CO2 levels.
Thats of course if any of this highly theoretical and so far completely unproven scientifically , warming due to increases in CO2 has actually occurred.

Some further information on this can be found here; Plant fossils of West Virginia [ coal country ] which show historic carbon dioxide levels, independent of Greenland Ice core data which is the main and most qquoted source of past paleo CO2 levels, that were ascertained by the sizes of the fossilised leaves “Stomata” , the plant’s breathing holes on the underside of the leaf which change in size and number according to localised CO2 levels.
In a sub-section at this site, the “Basis for the Estimate of Pre-Industrial CO2” goes on to show both the measured levels of atmospheric CO2 during the 19th century and an explanation of how Guy Callender, the so called father of global warming, selected low values [ circled ] of the measured atmospheric CO2 to begin his calculations on both the increases to be expected in CO2 and the temperature rise that would supposedly result from the expected increase in CO2 levels.
Unfortunately for clarity purposes the relevant graph in this sub section is quite small but it is the graph which is often used to butress questioning on the widely accepted initial global warming low 280 ppm CO2 numbers but like all things so characteristic of the Climate Change belief and ideology, with no proof that the number quoted for pre-industrial CO2 is actually correct.
Starting with a low number for CO2 concentrations of course make any increase and therefore any associated warming look much more severe and supposedly far more dangerous than beginning with a high pre-industrial CO2 level
An initial low CO2 number would make any increase in CO2 and its supposed associated temperature increase look much more dangerous particularly when ably assisted by a suitable level of klaxon like climate alarmism.

Experts are finding out wind turbines are not only an inefficient way to produce electricity, but that they are also wrecking the environment, natural habitats and even the climate.

He sealed his `tent.’ Oh dear. He didn’t count on respiration and perspiration before entering the tent. We breathe out water vapour in surprising quantities, at a rate which rises with temperature. And then our skins get involved. No wonder he bailed at 15 hours: it must have been quite a fug!
Us humans can be smelly critters in close sweaty quarters! Ha ha ha. And no ventilation in the tent: it must have been about to rain inside when he bailed out. The plants wouldn’t have minded such semi-tropical topical conditions (very conducive to fungus too—did he have any mushrooms?) at all. All they needed would be some sunlight 🙂

At the start of the Ind REV co2 levels were about 280 ppm and now they are about 406ppm.
That’s an increase of about 1.26 part of co2 in every 10,000 parts of the air we breathe. Yet according to the experts??? this amazing stuff seems to work like pixie dust and cause MUCH higher rainfall across OZ, but less rainfall ( last 30 years) in SW WA, yet higher rainfall in WA overall. Amazing stuff indeed.
OH and less rainfall in Vic over the last 20+ years and Tassie as well. Incredible stuff.
But higher and more even rainfall overall in southern OZ and south OZ.
Northern OZ rainfall is much higher, plus Qld and much higher in the NT.
NSW rainfall is much higher as is the MDB and we had a prolonged positive and neutral IOD from 1992 to 2009 and as a result we had a long mill drought.
But in 2016 we had flooding of the MDB caused by a strong negative IOD with little help from neutral ENSO off our east coast. IOW neither el nino or La nina.
Here’s the latest CSIRO co2 levels from Cape Grim Tassie. About 406ppm and slightly higher in the NH. And if you believe the pixie dust qualities of this 1.26 part of co2 for every 10,000 parts we inhale then I think you’ll believe anything. And they do. BTW you can move the toggle back through the years at the Cape Grim site to read prior levels of co2.

He gives his opinion on subjects like nuclear power, as if he was a technological expert, not a science fiction writer.
How much post school hard tertiary science is in these prolific ‘environmental’ degrees is unknown and likely zero in Flannery’s case but they all call themselves ‘scientists’. It gives real scientists a bad name. The other bad name for real scientists is skeptics.

Actually, in the hard sciences the MSc is hard. Flannery managed to get through an MSc and PhD with only an English degree, so environmental science clearly requires no real science.
We are talking here of the new ‘environmental’ sciences where emotion is the greatest guide to truth, not facts. It is a nebulous thing dedicated to making sure nothing changes. You would in fact think an increase in CO2 would be great for photosynthesis, food production. In real hothouses they increase CO2 deliberately.
The three factors for photosynthesis are sunshine, CO2 and H2O. CO2 is essential, not poisonous or evil and a world experiment over the last 30 years has shown it does not change temperature, so how on earth does it change climate?
Then, this is ‘environmental’ science where Professor Turkey and his Ship of Fools cost this country many millions and risked so many lives because he believed sea ice was melting even when presented with photographs showing it was not.

This is the same recycled extinct rat story that did the rounds a year or two back and was treated with appropriate derision then. Bramble Cay is/was a virtual large sandbank off the coast of Papua New Guinea near the mouth of the Fly River in the SW from whence the rat probably floated out on driftwood during a flood. As for being part of the GBR, Bramble Cay is as much a part of the GBR as Tasmania is a part of NSW. The same scientists that declared it extinct due to global warming admitted that they hadn’t bothered looking to see if it still existed on the PNG mainland. Yawn, move on.

Just last week, the eastern states alone — Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg — demanded €60 billion in federal aid to cover the phaseout of lignite mining.
Although Germany’s mining sector is relatively small and employs just 21,000 people — 11,000 in the east — the phaseout is a hot-button issue. There are fears that job losses could boost support for the far right in affected regions, especially in the east where coal is the main industry in some parts.
The Alternative for Germany party, the leading opposition party, has garnered support in those regions by questioning whether humans are accelerating global warming…

Why such sparse coverage of the early GOP lead?
The Democrats typically lead Republicans in early voting during midterm and presidential election cycles. In 2016 the Democratic lead in early voting was such that it inspired major news outlets, AP for example, to run articles with titles like “Early voting: More good signs for Clinton in key states.” Among the states in which early voting portended a victory for Hillary, according to AP, were Florida and North Carolina. The story went on to quote her spokesperson as follows: “The Clinton campaign describes both North Carolina and Florida as ‘checkmate’ states.” Trump won both of course.
Oddly, most of the major media have been reluctant to report early voting trends in the current cycle. AP has reported on it only when there are vague complaints about alleged voting machine problems. The Washington Post, which was just as anxious as AP to run stories about early voting in 2016, now tells its readers that these ballots have no significance: “Who’s voting early? Mostly people who would have voted anyway.” What has caused such a reversal in media attitudes? To paraphrase Dana Carvey’s SNL character, Enid Strict: Could it be the surge in early voting by Republicans?
And, make no mistake, there is a GOP surge that has rendered this year’s early voting pattern unique. Interestingly, the only major network that has covered this story in detail is by no means remarkable for its Republican-friendly reporting.
On Monday NBC reported, “The data suggests enthusiasm among early GOP voters that could put a dent in Democratic hopes for a ‘blue wave’ in the midterms.” Early GOP voters were leading Democrats by large margins in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, Tennessee, and Texas. And that was not an anomaly.
By Thursday NBC reported:
“The current nationwide total of early or absentee ballots counted exceeds the 2016 total from two weeks before Election Day.… Republican-affiliated voters make up 44 percent of the early voting electorate and Democratic-affiliated voters make up 40 percent of the early voting electorate”…
At this point in the 2016 election, early Democratic ballots led early GOP ballots by 45 percent to 38 percent. This cycle, the Republican percentage has increased by 7 while the Democratic percentage has dropped by 5. Does that mean the oft-predicted blue wave was BS? Who knows? But it’s a sure bet the legacy “news” media won’t tell you.

Solar energy growth in Germany is likely to slow markedly in the coming years unless the government repeals a law that caps incentives, the BSW solar industry association said on Thursday.
German law only foresees offering feed-in tariffs for solar energy until the country has a cumulative installed capacity of 52 GW of photovoltaic systems.

Moved in with his girlfriend, Jane Asher, and her brother Peter was one half of the duo Peter and Gordon, newly contracted, and without a first up song. he heard Paul playing it, and asked if they could use it. The rest is history. Straight to Number One!
Paul wrote a number of (Beatles) songs about Jane in their five year relationship, before she dumped him.

<strong>Mawson’s Spirit Gets Right of Reply.
There seems no shortage, nor a dearth, of those who plan to save the earth;
Christian Turney, (“That’s Professor, thanks”), decided he would join their ranks,
So he organised his own crusade, somewhat pricey, mostly paid,
By largesse of the public purse – not the last time, nor the first.
His purpose and his noble goal – to sail towards the Southern Pole,
To collect, collate and then report, all data of the climate sort,
Thus confirming something we all “knew” – the evil role of CO2;
Any changes he would show, compared to Mawson, years ago.
(To raise the profile of his scheme, he passed it off as “Mawson’s Dream”.)
Apart from that, not much to do, just hire a boat with Russian crew,
And, to tabulate the climate ruin, invite some friends and camera crew in;
(These climate types, I don’t know why, are rarely, rarely camera shy.)
The ship sailed southward, out to sea, and all was going, swimmingly,
However, as South Pole beckoned, a fact arose; no-one had reckoned;
For, despite what they had all been told, the South Pole still was JOLLY COLD!
And, nearly 60 k’s away from shore, the ship was blocked, could go no more.
Chris gazed upon the icy sea; “We’ll disembark, – just follow me,
To explore the ice; it’s truly awesome – we’re gonna do a Dougie Mawson!”
So the kiddies all got off and played, but tragically, they overstayed;
For when they returned, the time had passed – the ship by now was stuck and fast!
These latest antics off the coast, had worn quite thin with Russian host;
To Chris he cried: “You stupid jerk! You’ve cost me time and lots of work!
I’m sure you thought it would be nice, to take that frolic on the ice;
You came back late, now, thanks to you, my ship is firmly in the pooh.”
“Your mission’s goal was crystal clear – you had but just the one idea,
To preen and ponce, pontificate, while playing judge to mankind’s fate;
And earnestly parade your views, while looking good for camera crews –
But I’d be more impressed, my climate chap, if you’d learnt to read a weather map!”
“You’re very wrong, my Russian friend, for I know how this scene will end –
The climate models clearly show, a future lack of ice and snow,
And while models may be thin on proof, we treat them as the Gospel truth,
So therefore soon, perhaps today, we’ll free this ship and sail away.”
Three days later…
But cold it was, and stuck they stayed – a few were getting quite dismayed:
“Oh won’t you come and save us please – we’d much prefer not stay and freeze –
And if your ship burns fossil fuel, it’s quite OK, we’re really cool.”
Our icebound heroes were at wit’s ends, and sent some “selfies” to their friends…
That evening…
After dinner, and a well-aged red, Chris did toddle off to bed,
To ponder the ship’s immobile status, (it could only be a mild hiatus),
And what the press would have to say, as they saw that ice just melt away –
So he dreamed his dream, as he closed his eyes, of that long-awaited Nobel Prize…
He awoke at midnight, and became aware, of the ghost which stood in silence there,
His slimy skin and his icy breath – this guy was having a lousy death,
And was not at all a happy ghost, being most abrupt towards his host;
“Wakey, wakey, Climate Priest – you know how it is with us deceased,
Turning up at awkward hours, invoking all our spooky powers;
Groaning and moaning and delivering lectures, that’s afterlife for all us spectres,
Floating on air along the halls, then disappearing through the walls;
But, I think you’ll find me extra awesome – for I am the ghost of Douglas Mawson!
And I, myself, have something new – a few “ideas” I feel that you
Would be advised quite full and well, to remember, recollect and tell
Your colleagues of a similar ilk, those who lie and cheat, defraud and bilk.
For I am annoyed at you, to say the least – you’ve cheesed me off, you Climate Priest!
One hundred years ago, nigh on the day, I steamed my boat into this Bay,
And, well before your climate “crisis”, we landed where the coast was iceless.
Now this self-same spot, post global “warming”, is blocked by all the sea-ice forming,
So, despite the “wisdom” of your creed, the facts, it seems, have disagreed.
But facts are dull, and oh so dreary – they contradict your precious theory,
But you climate chaps know what to do – you implement a “trick” or two,
To “educate” the public mind, and, (for causes of this noble kind),
You deem deception just and right. (All lies by Greens are small and white.)
As an example use this present case, this very boat, this very place,
Locked in ice you thought had melted; your theory, sir, I say, is belted!
But that conclusion would not do! For it contravened your point of view –
So, with sophistry and convolution, you ascribe both hot AND cold to man’s pollution!
Which makes your theory quite absurd – it’s nothing more than bovine merde –
Then, to show how much you just don’t know – you change the story as you go,
And to ensure the public understands, you raise your voice and wave your hands;
You thus escalate the public fears, and gain approval from your peers.
But the fact remains, you can’t disguise – that what you tell are porky pies,
As has been done, times countless past, by those of upper climate caste,
Lies of fact, lies of exclusion, lies of logic, lies of collusion,
Are stock in trade for a thieves’ alliance – but they have no place in open science.
If you know your facts and have the proof – it’s very easy, tell the truth –
But if you’re any less than total Francis, you have to go and take your chances,
With cons and shams and tricks and cheats, hockey stick graphs and missing heats –
And oh what a tangled web we do weave, when first we practice to deceive!
You blazed your path to fame and glory, by telling less than half the story,
And if ever there was room for doubt, you’d skip the bits you wanted out,
To reach the sure and safe conclusion, approved and blessed with team collusion;
And though you’re just a phoney prophet, you somehow get your jollies off it.
Half-baked theories and utter twaddle, you embed these in a “climate model”,
While your “settled science” – that proud consensus – is a roll-call of the vain pretentious,
Your fellow travellers, who so richly gain, from coasting on this gravy train.
But when your friends are wrong – which is hardly new – you label it as “Peer Review”.
But these shams and fakes and little tricks, they’re not science, they’re politics,
And what I find is really lame – you do these things and use my name,
As if to suggest or imply, of course, that I would support or like endorse,
You, your theory, or your acts, which both hide the truth and twist the facts.
So I’d thank you please, in future verbals, invoke the name of Joseph Goebbels.”
