China’s lunar lander and rover spacecraft Chang’e 4 will land on the far side of the moon in a couple of days. The landing site will be inside a large crater.

      Happy new year to all.

Yes, not many fish in the moon’s seas! 🙂

The only thing I thought I recognised in the Chinese characters was the left-hand half of the last kanji as a nose over a mouth as in the Japanese 語 which I was told was a nose over a mouth next to the number 5 over another mouth meaning ‘many mouths speaking’ = language!

Happy New Year, Greebo, and all the other commentators here who make this blog so interesting, and of course to Jo and David whose capacity for stick-at-it-ness is unsurpassed.

I take it you aren’t referring to man-made Global Warming – we’ve been waiting 20 years for that and may have to wait another 40 years.

Still a Happy New Year to you and all readers.

Just in time for the New Year, an article which will stop you feeling gloomy about the future.

How far would you need to move towards the nearest Pole, to reverse one degree Celsius of global warming?

You may have already been thinking about moving towards one of the Poles (the North Pole, or the South Pole), in order to avoid global warming. But how far should you go?

Don’t worry any longer, this article tells you exactly how far you should move, to get the perfect climate.

Not only that, this article also shows you how to find your pre-industrial paradise.

And there is more. Experience global warming, before it actually happens (that way, you can see whether you like it, or not).

Don’t wait any longer, click the following link.

Assuming a standard atmosphere with a lapse rate of 1C per 500ft altitude one merely needs to live in a mobile home next to a well chosen hill with a pleasant view.

If I drive 250km south I will probably end up in Canberra – No Thanks – I will put up with a 1 degree temperature rise – Oh, wait, the temperature has just risen 1 degree since breakfast!

That (link) was the best laugh I’ve had all year, Sheldon Walker, and it’s not even midday, chur! To wit, the horror of 1˚: you live in Sydney, average temp rises from 17˚ to 18˚C, roos gettin’ stroppy, fridge ain’t workin’, beer be warm [sounds like apocalyptic solar/wind ‘power’ to me] ya gonna die! Go south young man… 250 km should do the trick [although AndyG55 isn’t going anywhere and Latus D’s got a nice hill to drive up out the back, toot-toot!].

So, after 20 years living/working up in cold snowy mountains, learning/reading/chatting with old folk, I decided to head 1,500 km toward the equator, over 10˚ in latitude away from the South Pole. Loved my time carving down back-country snow-buried hills, but having realised the Brief Modern Warm Period was over, I needed some warmth and a surf in an iceberg-free ocean. Funny coincidence: that was when friends started calling me the “D” word.

From the humorous ‘How far to reverse global warming’ stats, Paris’ average temp is 12.4˚ and Madrid’s 14.1˚, while here in the Antipodes (NZ is diametrically opposite the Pyrenees) we’re c. 13.4˚. Now I see why our munted stuff’d media (msm) is pushing 26˚C as sweltering and sizzling as it’s twice as hot as our chilly average. The majick of klimate séance! Just believe…

Whoah, too many covfefes on the first day of 2019, rant over, cheers Jo & Co. and everyone else here, you’re brilliant! P.S. It’s minus 39˚C in Oymyakon, Siberia right now; I’m guessing an extra 2˚ wouldn’t even touch the sides. Happy New Year – we made it!

      Sheldon, nicely put.

There is a refinement that would make it more accurate. The warming is supposedly going to be twice as bad at the poles, and probably insignificant at the equator. The evaporative cooling system in the tropics limits the warming, so the tropics would spread but not necessarily get much hotter. The two degree average rise across the planet really means more like 4C at the poles and some very small number at the equator. Since Antarctica appears to be behaving the exact opposite of that prediction, I’d say “so much for that theory”. But it’s worth keeping in mind that evaporation rates above 30C rise rapidly which limits the equatorial oceans to 30-32C.

        Hi Jo,

thanks for your suggestion of a refinement.

I based that article, “how far to reverse global warming”, on the way that “normal” temperatures vary with latitude.

I didn’t try to include different amounts of global warming, in different places. I just used a nominal 1 degree Celsius of global warming.

You should find my latest article (posted today), very interesting.

It uses real temperature distributions, based on the actual yearly average temperatures, for over 36,000 locations on the Earth.

Comparing the “normal” temperature distribution, to a “global warming” temperature distribution, makes it easier to judge whether that amount of global warming is a big problem.

The article shows you the temperature distributions for a range of global warming “amounts”. People with weak hearts should not look at the more extreme amounts of global warming. Seeing 10.0 or 15.0 degrees Celsius of global warming on a graph, may be too much for those with a vivid imagination.

The article offers a choice of global warming simulations.

        1) with NO polar amplification

        2) WITH polar amplification

You can find the new article, at this link:

1: Only 6 of your locations are in the Southern Hemisphere. The rest are all in the Northern Hemisphere.. And the two hemispheres behave in different ways as regards climate. Why ? because one, the Southern is 80% ocean. The other the Northern hemisphere is 50% land.

2: As almost all the locations you list are cities ( many very big cities ) you must also taken into account the Urban Heat Island Effect in these cities… And in some cities that influences the average temperature significantly.

      10

      • #

        Bill in Oz,

In that table, I wasn’t trying to show a difference between the northern hemisphere and the southern hemispheres. Just how the temperature varies a lot.

You are correct about there being a lot less land-based locations in the southern hemisphere, because of the amount of Ocean. You can see that in my graph showing actual yearly average absolute temperature versus latitude, for over 36,000 locations on the Earth. There are a lot more locations in the northern hemisphere.

I was showing the actual measured temperature, which is affected by many things, including the urban heat island effect. Also latitude, elevation, proximity to the Ocean, size of Landmass, and many more.

I didn’t try to break the temperature down into different reasons or causes. So I don’t care how big the urban heat island effect is.

I am happy to answer questions about what I did. I am not trying to trick people. People should look at what I did, and ask questions if it doesn’t seem correct (like you did).

        Happy New Year,

I think I mentioned some considerable time back that my wife and I attended an Anglican Christmas morning service at a South Coast (NSW) church some years ago where the female priest or Deacon (no problems there – Mary, the mother of God, was a female apparently) read out a letter from the Bishop in Canberra exhorting every member of the congregation to take action to avoid the coming catastrophe of global warming and climate change. Unfortunately the plate had already been passed around!

I didn’t walk out. An action my wife was appreciative of. However, I decided I’d never return.

I now enjoy my sleep-in of a Christmas morn.

It appears that the Christian church in Australia is in decline and will continue that way until it is totally irrelevant. That’s not to say that Christian beliefs are in decline – far from it. But believers see the hypocrisy, the corruption and the politicization of the church as a sign of its demise. They are preferring a personal and direct connection with their God. A connection that does not need the interference of the clergy. Sad. But there it is.

            PADRE

As an Anglican priest of over 28 years I am fed up with the Church. Very occasionally the ‘Church’ and the ‘body of Christ’ overlap. However, this has not stopped me from doing my best for a small congregation in country Victoria. I have preached that we have nothing to fear from climate change, I have written to my MLA, MP and Bishop giving good reason for not fearing climate change – and have had no reply from any of them! I received a most abusive letter when I mentioned climate change in a sermon. I have had two articles in the diocesan newspaper alluding to the cult of environmentalism and have had no response whatsoever. I have also written a longish, fully referenced, paper on ‘environmentalism’ for a diocesan committee but have had no response. Some years ago, in an English diocesan synod, I stated that the level of CO2 IN the atmosphere increases as a result rather than as a prelude to warming. The Registrar refused to put this in the minutes!
It seems to me that we are faced with two things in the church: a very bad case of group think based on sheer ignorance and stupidity; and a bad case of syncretism based the cult of environmentalism.
The Gospel is about freedom from fear and guilt, it is about truth, it is about justice and care of the poor and outcast. In other words quite the opposite from the pathetic hand-wringing on those who haven’t a clue what they are talking about in relation to the climate.

Sceptical Sam, my OH’s likely response to that situation was that either he’d refuse to read the letterfrom the bishop or read it out, adding that it was a load of rubbish. Also, tell the bishop straight that he’s wrong.

It really is time we went back to one of the original intents of the internet; freedom of expression with no expectation of making a living out of it and almost zero expectation of being banned (there were a few exceptions). I loved the idea of the old Usenet newgroup feeds (still available) where the sole focus was to disseminate information and promote discussions. Before the Web browser became popular I also used Majordomo and procmail to manage a variety of mailing lists and discussion groups. They were the good times when true freedom of expression ran wild regardless of whether one agreed with it or not. Now it’s all being smothered gradually by control freaks.

Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson’s discussion is worth having but they are going down the wrong path because there are already a variety of alternatives. That is the problem – alternatives plural. We need only one. What is needed is an extension of the internet protocol much like the old unix based NIS (Network Information Service, aka yellow pages) but of course is platform independent. That way there is only one standard and it’s ubiquitous.

You can only keep going and make the best of what you still have. I think life can be very hard; our family have found that even at the very worst time (a nephew who died from drowning but took six weeks to die) somehow, some ability to laugh at something utterly ridiculous was given to us…a relief valve built in by nature?

A very happy new year to all of you, and to Joanne especially. Thank you so much for all you do.

Late in 2018 I had cause to marvel and wonder at the miracles of modern medicine.

When a Specialist sits opposite you and says he has an ambulance out the front to take you to the Gold Coast University Hospital for the fitting of a Pacemaker, I thought he meant more consultations. more specialist visits, more checks, and then go on a wait list for the procedure, but in all seriousness, his affirmation was that it was going to happen within a very short time.

And it did, and the whole thing was just something to absolutely marvel at, that there are people with this sort of expertise, who do something like this on a daily basis, in much the same manner as I did a pre flight servicing on a Mirage Fighter.

The owner of the site I contribute to asked me to write about what happened, so if anyone wishes to read it, it’s at the Post at this link.

      Hi David,

I suspect that the only thing that will stop the construction of more renewables projects is a Royal Commission.

There must be a thorough analysis of the Engineering, Profit Making and Taking and sense of the “closed shop” atmosphere that surrounds our community and industrial electricity production and distribution.

The aim must surely be to provide reliable, cheap electricity.

That’s not happening and to make matters worse the renewables solution to the non-existent problem is an environmental nightmare.

Money is the driving force and the entire Con must be made public.

A Royal Commission is urgently needed.

Yes, you’ve hit the real issue: government is not honest and straightforward.

My fear is the solution implied @#23.1 which shouldn’t be necessary in a functioning democracy.

It appears that the Elites on both sides of politics are too focused on working out how to split up the 3 to 5 Billion dollars creamed from our electricity accounts every year.

Now we are getting closer to the truth. Both major parties are now as bad as each other. There is no longer any point saying it’s better to have the LNP in preference to the ALP. We have already started to go too far down the plug hole for either to save us. We could stall things for a little while if we prevent either major party forming a majority government and allowing the ACP and ON to hold the balance of power. Mind you it’s not the long term answer but at least it will delay the inevitable and allow those who are aware to better prepare themselves for the crunch that’s coming.

The wealth transfer process involving a very large diameter money siphoning hose.

The wreck of the capitalist system started a long time ago. It can be debated when but I would put it back in the early 20th Century when the US government started to use the Federal Reserve as an endless supply of money with no intention of ever paying it back. Once the United States Notes were replaced by the Federal Reserve Notes (looked very similar) the ball started to roll down the slippery slope. Matters were made much worse when the GFC hit and the US bankrolled the banking system (ie, effectively turned to socialism). It has been downhill at an accelerated pace ever since. When it crashes and burns it will send shock waves all over the world that would make the Great Depression look like a Sunday picnic.

Laissez faire capitalism is a thing of the past, replaced by mixed economies, there is no going back.

Most of the stock market crashes have come out of the US, the GFC being the most recent debacle and if it happens again they’ll adopt quantitative easing, ie … print more money. It works and depression is avoided.

Socialism with Australian characteristics might not be so bad, we could teach Beijing the benefit of material progress coupled with a robust democracy. They are willing to learn.

“Cabinet documents from 1996-97 show the Howard government was warned it was isolated on climate change, prompting consideration of new policies and a media campaign to improve its reputation.

Environment minister Robert Hill told cabinet that Australia’s ability to influence global events would be constrained unless an effective domestic response to global warming was developed.

At the time, Australia was one of few nations to campaign against legally binding, uniform emission reduction targets in the Kyoto Protocol.”

Interestingly, more proof even back 25 years ago, that globalists had indeed infested the Liberal party, and appear to have been rotting it from within ( Socialists cant build anything, they can only destroy…)so turning it into a Socialist outpost….

This also provides better understanding as to why the Socialist dream of gun control, implemented in 1996, was done…..all they needed was an “event”….

Machine guns and similar military weapons, but even the Vietnam War SLR .762 can be registered if the gun licence holder can show a reason for owning one.

Join a gun club, receive gun handling training, get a licence, buy a gun or guns and register them.

I fail to see how banning single shot bolt action guns that look like a military weapon is going to make the public safer when lever actions are ok .
The intent of rotten Jonny was to remove semi automatic long arms from the majority but leave an onerous regimented nearly impossible to get way for some to own a semi auto or self loader .
As for registration rules it’s clear that worked for the criminals who all went out and registered their firearms .
And let’s not forget that we shouldn’t judge the many on the actions of a few .
Deaths by firearms was on the decline before this legislation , maybe we need to start taking knives and blunt objects off the people and while at it cars as well .

The real issue is that in a properly run society the outlaws wouldn’t have guns.

This is the same problem that allows a minimum of $4,000,000 to be creamed from us as electricity payments.

We are supposedly a democracy but for some reason our governments ignore their duty to us.

I don’t think that carrying guns is the answer to either issue.

We may not be a Democracy any longer but even if we were it would not last. We are certainly not a Republic like the US is, or more accurately was. There is a subtle yet important difference between a Democracy and a Republic. In reality though the end result is the same as they are both man-made self-defeating failures – they become more distorted due to greed for power and increasing tendencies to spend money like there is tomorrow with the result the individual is treated like dirt.

Here the Roman poet Juvenal displays his contempt for his fellow citizens who are only interested in bread and circuses, much like most Australians. The bread refers to the grain dole initiated by Roman politicians in order to purchase the votes of the poor.

[…] iam pridem, ex quo suffragia nulli / uendimus, effudit curas; nam qui dabat olim / imperium, fasces, legiones, omnia, nunc se / continet atque duas tantum res anxius optat, / panem et circenses. […]

… Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses.

    No shit, Sherlock;

This month, a group of researchers from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) published a paper in Environmental Science and Technology reporting that there are very few cases in which operating a residential home battery reduces overall emissions—assuming that households are economically rational and trying to minimize costs. […]

The researchers found that the only way to reliably decrease emissions using batteries is if utilities incorporate a “Social Cost of Carbon” into their pricing schemes—that is, charging people extra for using electricity during carbon-heavy periods of generation. This helps bring batteries into the emissions-reducing fold. Unfortunately, including a cost for carbon dioxide emissions has proven politically difficult.”

“The true reason for global warming.”

“Al Gore had it all wrong, it’s not the CO2 emissions causing the greenhouse effect that is creating global warming. It’s the heat of the flames from the ever increasing number of candles on baby boomer birthday cakes that is heating the atmosphere and melting the polar icecaps. I expect most any day now the Nobel prize folks will be wanting to force some kind of award on me for this discovery. My theory is just as tough to prove or disprove as the previous big Al theory. And my solution for this is likewise as simple, the guberment can just creat a age tax instead of a Carbon tax. And this will have equal effect on the environment. No need to thank me, just trying to help save the world. ”

Hannam & BoM end the year as he no doubt intends to continue…forever!

31 Dec: SMH: Hot start to 2019 after Australia ends its third-warmest year
    By Peter Hannam
The searing end to 2018 for much of Australia will likely make it the third-hottest on record for maximum temperatures with little early relief in sight in the new year, preliminary data from the Bureau of Meteorology shows…
All but one of the country’s top 10 hottest years have occurred since 2005, a result “in line with long-term trends resulting from anthropogenic climate change”, the bureau said in a summary on 2018’s national weather…
“It’s very likely that NSW will be amongst the warmest three years on record for both mean temperatures and maximum temperatures,” Ms Tobin said…

Sydney just cleared the 1000-millimetres mark for rainfall – by 0.2 millimetres – but that was well shy of its long-run ***average of 1215.7 millimetres, based on bureau records going back to 1858. It was the driest year since 2014…

Records have fallen for daytime and night-time readings in places ranging from Marble Bar in the Pilbara to Alice Springs in the red centre, to Albury in the south-east…
“The pattern doesn’t change for the next week,” said Gabrielle Woodhouse, duty forecaster from the bureau.
The heat will again build up by the end of the week, with parts of north-western Victoria and south-western NSW likely to reach 45 degrees by Saturday, the bureau forecasts.
Australia was hardly alone in recording a hot year…

The item I’ve just read on newsdotcom has a headline:

‘Sink two aircraft carriers’: Chinese Admiral’s chilling recipe to dominate the South China Sea
Beijing has a devastating plan to force the world out of the East and South China Seas — and it could cost the US 10,000 lives.

China is a real and present danger to world peace, a bigger threat than the Axis powers in WWII. A non-nuclear confrontation will result in many thousands of US servicemen dead. Does the west in general and the US in particular have the stomach for this? I doubt it, it would escalate through “limited” nuclear war where the US bombed the artificial islands, which could fairly be claimed as 100% military targets. The rest is unthinkable.

Trump is the only leader not following a Chamberlinesque policy of appeasement.

As we enter 2019, with no doubt many promises to come from pollies about reducing electricity prices, it is worth looking back to see where we have come from.
2016/2017/2018 average prices $/MWhr calculated from AEMO monthly prices:
    SA 80 ; 106 ; 101
    Vic 47 ; 92 ; 91
NSW 59 ; 96 ; 82 (big blip in Q1 2017 for some reason, 89 if exclude that anomaly. Just prior to Hazelwood closure, but no impact in Vic)
    Qld 63 ; 103 ; 75 (big blip in Q1 2017 for some reason, 80 if exclude that anomaly)
The order I have listed the States above is based on who has the greatest wind capacity, with SA the clear winner loser. Hmm, but wind is free isn’t it? Yet the lowest prices are in the states using the most coal.

Pollies can claim that prices have come down in 2018 versus 2017, but they are still well up on the good old days of 2016. And if we go back to 2014/15 FY, just after the carbon tax was repealed, prices by State were 39 ; 30 ; 35 ; 52
Looking at the average prices for the decade prior to the introduction of the carbon tax in 2012, the averages in same order SA/Vic/NSW/Qld were: 43 ; 35; 39 ; 35
And this is all before looking at the price increases due to renewable certificate subsidies for solar/wind and the network added costs to cover intermittent supplies.
From among the lowest electricity prices in the world to among the highest, how our pollies have destroyed Australia’s competitiveness. Where are the yellow vests? Unions, business, the poor, political parties, pure apathy in the (un)lucky country. Ah, but we need to feel more pain in order to save the planet – there, feeling better now?

      Good comparison.

As you say, I assume, that’s just the preliminary cost before adding the extras like daily availability fee, Renewables cross fertilisation and the big money spinner, Poles and Wires.

Without the inclusion of the “extras” the AEMOs figures could be seen as very political because they don’t show the real cost to consumers and illustrate the actual bump in household charges.

      Ripoff.

      20

      • #
        Robber

The ABS reports an Electricity cost index for households as follows:
        Sep 2015 118.1
        Sep 2016 123.7
        Sep 2017 137.9
        Sep 2018 140.4
That’s a 19% increase over 3 years, but “only” a 1.8% increase in the last year. Will have to wait for Dec quarter.

Yeah, when I checked my household expenses spreadsheet I had to go back to 1998-1999 ($922) to find a number which had been tripled by that for 2017-2018 ($2803) and I’d been formulating a response regarding the apparent tripling since 2014-2015 shown by the AEMO figures for Victoria until seeing this present post.

I guess it would be commercial in confidence how the AEMO arrived at its numbers. After we get rid of the RET can the AEMO and associated bodies be next in line?

The chart is at the link and it’s for December 2018, the year just gone, and it’s at this link, and you’ll have to do a little work here to open up the correct chart When the link opens, click on the tab which says Daily, mid screen right side. When the drop downs open, select the year, 2018, and the Month, December.

Now I want to draw your attention to just the one particular day, Christmas Day, 25th December.

I have mentioned across the years that this one day is the lowest power consumption day of the year, and it’s not even close, far and away the lowest.

The average power generation across the day came in at only 19000MW, and for a comparison, the Tuesday working day immediately prior to this Christmas Day had an average power generation of 23300MW a full 18.5% higher.

Now, on this day. coal fired power just hummed along, delivering what it always does, huge amounts of power, averaging between 71 and 75% per day for the last 13 weeks, higher on weekends, when power consumption always drops away from week day levels.

However, on Christmas Day, coal fired power delivered just under 82% of every watt of power being consumed.

Okay, background set, so now look at the chart for the cost for electricity on that Christmas Day.

It goes across the page NSW the first two, then Qld, then Vic, then SA, then Tas.

The first number for each State is the RRP, the average across the full 24 hours, and the second number is the Peak RRP, in other words, the cost at the Peak time for power consumption, and hey read above where it explains Peak RRP. It’s not a couple of hours in the afternoon around that peak power consumption time, you know 4 to 6PM. No, Peak RRP goes from, wait for this 7AM till 10PM, a full 15 hours.

So, look across the page here, and try and find any day, anywhere, in any State where power is cheaper than on this one Christmas Day.

Note especially those first three States, NSW, Qld, and Vic,the only States with coal fired power, and look especially at Queensland, where coal fired power is quite literally ALL they have, and the cost for wholesale power in that State is less than $30/MWH

Seems odd to me that on the one day when coal fired power is at its absolute peak power delivery, that the cost for electrical power is at its absolute lowest for the year.

Please, never try and tell me that any mode of power generation is cheaper than coal fired power.

      Tony.

Interesting to look at the Thursday/Friday after Xmas/Boxing Day.
Prices back up to $80-110/Mwhr, no more wind/solar, so it’s gas to deliver all the incremental 4 GW of generation required.
The closure of Hazelwood cost far more than any “academic” study has yet assessed.
We are short of baseload coal capacity.
        Happy New Year.

Maybe rare earths, platinum, but not gold in my opinion.
The other theory is that the only reason gold is scarce is that if the big central banks had not been there to be the ‘gold buyer of last resort’ during financial crisis etc, there would be gold on the streets. It follows that by buying up gold, the metal is made scarce and thus in doing so, the central banks are in effect protecting their own gold stores.

1 Jan: Tim Blair Blog: POOR SUBSIDISING THE SOLAR-LOVING RICH
As the Daily Telegraph reports (LINK), tax-funded subsidies to the one-in-four Australian households that have installed solar panels add $45 a year to the average power bill of every family in NSW.
Analysis of electricity costs by power giant EnergyAustralia shows that Australia’s eight million households are helping to pay off the solar systems of the two million people who can afford them.
If you pay taxes but do not have the spare cash to install solar panels yourself, bad luck…

“Our concern is not with solar power,” EnergyAustralia chief customer officer Chris Ryan told the Daily Telegraph.
    “It’s about fairness.
“With electricity prices at record highs, it’s time to look at whether one group of Australians should be paying more for their electricity than they need to for the privilege of funding other households’ solar systems.”

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2018/12/30/angela-merkel-nation-states-must-give-up-sovereignty-to-new-world-order/

“Nation states must today be prepared to give up their sovereignty”, according to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who told an audience in Berlin that sovereign nation states must not listen to the will of their citizens when it comes to questions of immigration, borders, or even sovereignty.

“No this wasn’t something Adolf Hitler said many decades ago, this is what German Chancellor Angela Merkel told attendants at an event by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin. Merkel has announced she won’t seek re-election in 2021 and it is clear she is attempting to push the globalist agenda to its disturbing conclusion before she stands down.

“In an orderly fashion of course,” Merkel joked, attempting to lighten the mood. But Merkel has always had a tin ear for comedy and she soon launched into a dark speech condemning those in her own party who think Germany should have listened to the will of its citizens and refused to sign the controversial UN migration pact”

    Global warming temperature distributions
    ===================================

Using a single number to represent global warming, like 1.5 or 2.0 degrees Celsius of global warming, makes it hard to see how bad the problem really is. Is 2.0 degrees Celsius of global warming a major change from what we have now, or is it a minor change?

Using temperature anomalies to represent global warming, removes (or ignores) what is “normal” for temperatures. “Normal”, becomes a single temperature anomaly, 0.0 degrees Celsius. Does 0.0 degrees Celsius, really represent the “normal” temperature distribution on the Earth.

What is the solution to this problem? The answer is to look at temperature distributions, rather than single numbers. Temperature distributions make global warming multi-dimensional, rather than a one-dimensional number. Temperature distributions show how the temperature varies with latitude, elevation, proximity to the ocean, size of landmass, and many other factors.

Comparing the “normal” temperature distribution, to a “global warming” temperature distribution, makes it easier to judge the size of the problem. Are “alarmists” trying to turn a molehill into a mountain? Or are “deniers” trying to turn a mountain into a molehill?

This article will show you the temperature distributions for a range of global warming “amounts”. People with weak hearts should not look at the more extreme amounts of global warming. Seeing 10.0 or 20.0 degrees Celsius of global warming on a graph, may be too much for those with a vivid imagination.

This article offers a choice of global warming simulations.

      OK EG why ?

But I am not sure that it is right.

We had rains in early December and parts of Vic got flooded big time.
Why Lots of water evaporated off the Indian Ocean which travelled down to SA & Vic on the jet stream where it sank & cooled and formed a deep low with lots of rain.

The rate of evaporation off the waters of the Indian ocean is affected by sea surface temperature. Cooler means lots less..warmer measn lots more…

Ummm And it was warmer because of the undersea volcanic rumblings along Java Sumatra. This culminated when Anak Kratatoa blew up a week or so ago.

So warmer waters..In Indian ocean near WA…

But NASAA says they are cooler.

      Duhhhh ?

Fraud In The National Climate Assessment (Part 3)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrRYtRkCKms&t=122s

From President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Farewell Address (1961)

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific technological elite.

It is the task of statesmanship to mould, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system — ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.

1 Jan: PV-Mag India: GSC wants 1 trillion mini-grids, 10 million solar jobs
“One trillion mini-grids, one trillion home lighting systems, one trillion solar PV ports, 10 million jobs and energy for all have-nots around the world. This is the primary dream of the Global Solar Council (GSC) and we shall achieve this by 2030,” Pranav R Mehta, who took over as chairman of Global Solar Council today, told pv magazine in an exclusive interview.
    by Preeti Verma Lal
The GSC’s general assembly will be held in Abu Dhabi between January 14 and 16, 2019. There, Pranav R Mehta will endeavor, with representatives from various countries, the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), to create a detailed plan of action to achieve the “One trillion mini-grids, ports, lighting systems and 10 million jobs” objective…

With those people still living without access to electricity as its main target, the GSC is planning to bundle Africa with Russia in its action plan, where despite the potential, solar energy accounts for a paltry 0.03% of total energy production…READ ON

    31 Dec: PV-Mag: 2018: India’s year of failed tenders
Tariff ceilings, safeguard duties, a falling rupee and mandated manufacturing capacity turned 2018 into a year of annulled tenders, and no shows by bidders.
    by Preeti Verma Lal
Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) much-hyped 10 GW manufacturing-linked tender was postponed six times. It finally attracted one bidder.

Meanwhile, the India’s first wind-solar hybrid auction found just two bidders, with 360 MW of the 1.2 GW finding no takers at all; the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) cancelled its 1 GW auction in July; and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) scrapped its 500 MW auction held in March.

By September 2018, solar power agencies from both the central and state governments had scrapped bids for projects representing 9 GW of capacity – or half of the 18 GW bid out by these agencies up to August.
According to SECI data, in addition to 2.4 GW of the 3 GW Solar Tranche II capacity being annulled, 1.3 GW of an original 2.5 GW hybrid tender, and the 3 GW from Solar Tranche III, were cancelled.

Wind tenders suffered the same fate.

1 Jan: KeysNews Florida: AP: City says it loves rooftop solar: Homeowner finds otherwise
CORAL GABLES — In Coral Gables, land of manicured lawns, stylish Spanish Mission-style homes, and strict rules for keeping itself beautiful, how good your solar is depends on which direction you face.
    Just ask Daniel Martinez.

He hired a solar installer who inspected the house and designed an array of panels that would give him optimum power. He also opted for less obtrusive, but more expensive all-black panels and lined them up vertically to eliminate unsightly gaps. But when he took his plan to the city, there was a problem: to be cost-effective, some of the panels needed to be on his southward facing roof, the side that faced the street.
Coral Gables, the city that also prides itself on confronting the perils of climate change and last year banned plastic bags, said no deal.
“I expected them to be reasonable about it, to listen and say, ‘Oh yeah, it makes sense,” he said. “Instead, they’ve just been very, very stubborn.”…

Installers have reported at least 30 homeowners dropped plans after the city put aesthetics over efficiency and made the panels financially unfeasible, they say…READ ON

20 Dec: Video: Warrnambool Standard: Tilt Renewables cops blast over transmission lines
    by Everard Himmelreich
PIC: Causing concern: One of the poles, left, for the transmission line from the Salt Creek wind farm that runs from near Mortlake to Terang.
The audit was clear in its criticism of the transmission lines, saying it appeared “road safety was given only limited consideration during the planning and design.”
“The cumulative risks to the public are not insignificant and will remain for many decades,” the audit said.
The placement of poles for the transmission lines in road reserves provoked concern from many residents and the National Wind Farms Commissioner suggested the road safety audit…

The transmission lines were built by Tilt Renewables that had not needed a council planning permit for their construction apart from ‘works in road reserve’ permits.
At Corangamite council’s December meeting, Cr Helen Durant did not hold back in castigating Tilt…
