Narcisistic or delusional? Former BBC reporter admits he did biased reporting

Media Bias, voting behaviour of journalists.Paid by the people to give them the facts, Clive Lewis is proud that he deceived them and delivered a message that served his own interests rather than theirs. From a Jan 2018 story by  Amanda Cashmore For Mailonline:

“Clive Lewis admits broadcasting biased news“:

In 2017 Lewis admitted to biased reporting whilst working for the BBC. At a Momentum rally he stated: “I was able to use bias in my reports by giving less time to one than the other. I reported on both but the angle and words and the language I used — I know the pictures I used — I was able to project my own particular political positions on things in a very subtle way.

This is clearly in breach of the spirit, ethics and whole point of the BBC. Did he think the people of the UK needed his wise but hidden counseling because he’s been born so much smarter than everyone else.

Naturally, we know where people struggling with reality end up in the climate debate. This is Clive Lewis, Jan 1 2019:

Politicians must persuade consumers to make dramatic lifestyle changes if devastating climate change and mass extinctions are to be averted, according to … Clive Lewis.

And we know where public broadcasting reporters go for their next job — The Labor Party. Clive Lewis is now their MP for Norwich South and the the shadow Treasury minister. He’s helped Jeremy Corbyn and is touted to become Shadow Secretary of State for Defence or as Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport should the Labor Party win. Lord help the UK.

It’s exactly this kind of admission that shows why public broadcasters are The Swamp. Where was the outrage?

UPDATE: Commenter Greg says”… but everyone is biased”.

Jo replies: Everyone has biases, but there used to be a time the media would strive to overcome them. If a BBC reporter was called biased, that was embarrassing. Now, every little narcissist is openly biased and proud of it. As if it’s noble to put their own spin on the story while they pretend to be neutral.

How’s the ethics work? One political party get a dedicated propaganda outfit paid for by the public dollar and disguised as non-partisan.

Sell public broadcasters now. Give the money back.

h/t Pat (PS Pat, meant to say thank you for your lovely card which I got just before Christmas, Merci!)

Yes Clive your privileged education has given you so much heightened awareness of how the world works that the plebeian masses are just pawns in the hands of a demigod.

Strange thing is while Clive fully embraces the political left he seems to have forgotten or skipped the history classes that would have given him the chronicled reality of what actually happens to people of his stature under any of the totalitarian outcomes of his political desires.

Sounds very much like the average academic historian.

On history classes at present see this report from the IPA.

Certainly, numerous historians were of collectivist viewpoint when I was an undergraduate. Yet fidelity to sources mostly did matter. And it is the other historians whom I revere, those who, often very senior in their field and splendid teachers, sought to convey the nature of the discipline in a genuine spirit of truthfulness and inquiry. Even that word “truthfulness” has since elided into “truthlikeness”, a very different idea. “Inquiry”, too, is similarly circumscribed.

According to one of my cousins, who did an MA in history after retiring from a working life as a veterinary researcher, the modern crop of historians no longer read original documents, but rely on others doing their reading and interpretation for them!

Reminds me somewhat of those climate ‘researchers’ who rely on those at UEA and elsewhere doing their basic work for them, with the same catastrophic results.

Many people are “followers” and the reasons are complex.

It is often easier just to follow a leader who is assumed to have done the needed study and familiarisation with a particular issue than start from scratch yourself.

    Nothing wrong with that.

When, however, a follower becomes a leader, we have trouble and experience the sort of malicious exploitation of the public that is occurring with the Man Made CO2 Global Warming thing: being taken off down a dark track where the group must eventually face the final Dead End.

Lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Good god, these people are so dumb, but convinced we can’t see right through them, they actually believe they are being subtle.

The thing is Hasbeen, he appears to betray that in actuality he’s uncertain whether anyone was clever enough to divine his superior intellect and nuanced interjection of ideological bias because he anticipated push-back or applause. Instead, crickets. That must be most disconcerting to someone like him, thinking that he was so subtle that in the end it seemed to him possible that no one understood to what it was he was alluding.
There are many reasons why none may have been perceived his subtleties, least of all the most obvious, most who knew would not be torturing themselves listening to the usual echo chamber of bias.
You’re spot on. These people are ineffably dumb, largely because they unwittingly mimic the Oozlum Bird.

In St Kilda there is a large police contingent keeping the opposing sides of race relations apart, the ABC presenter referred to one side as ‘extreme right’ and the other as ‘anti-fascist’.

Indeed. The BBC put out a memorandum last year stating what their position will be and how news reports will be compiled. With regard to Climate Change, their position was that the other side will not get any air time whatsoever.

Everybody has a bias and it’s a difficult thing to overcome. Clive is no different to anyone else in that regard. That he’s aware of his own bias is a good thing in my opinion. That he exercised his bias on a story he believes strongly in, is no surprise either.

Personally, I’m not worried either way. Politics should be based on much research and sound advice, what gets posted on the nightly news is just humanitarian junk and is not what politics should be acting upon.

Greg I think you are missing the point.

In an ideal world, the news should be just that. The facts. No opinions or biased reporting. I know that this never happens but that is what should happen.

The masses who watch ‘their BBC’ are brainwashed into believing the ‘opinions’
of the presenters. No wonder the gullible believe that gerbil warming is going to wipe out the planet. The BBC said so. It was on the news!

Easy, don’t get it from the news.

They have their own advisors for each of the various disciplines. We often hear about Trumps new science advisor for instance.

Failing that, they could make public inquiry. Pols are often conducted to gauge public opinion on various subjects.

A politician getting their information from the nightly news is going to quickly find out they are an idiot.

We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything
the American public believes is false.

              – William Casey, CIA Director from first staff meeting with President Reagan, February 1981.

I keep `stubbing’ my mental toes on stuff on the internet which becomes interesting—a huge time sink, but fascinating when a subject just has to be chased down every various and sundry rabbit holes all with its name over the door.
There’s this video from Diehold “Causes of the Ice Age and Nova, the Greatest Secret of the United States” which sounds all scary and conspiratorial. Umm: Nova? Que? … as in star explosion stuff? … It’s suddenly an MW (Must Watch.)

For those of you whose `mental toes’ this catches and stubs too, it’s from a link I followed from Suspicious Observers, who are generally very reliable. Ben Davidson is talking about solar mini novas in the vein of Boy, do we have a disaster for you!. O-kay, this is so much better than the endless illogical and scientifically impossible Nonsense of Klimate Change and, now we know the Sun does it, all the Major Idiocies of Extreme Weather etc being more common, more powerful, and made by man. (Those warmists are just big Echo Chambers! Science Denying Echo Chambers at that).

I’m only part way through the video (c. a third) so I have no analysis nor critique of it to offer, not even an assessment of its credibility, but it was already ringing bells. One bell was Gobekli Tepe built—and buried—around the time of the Younger Dryas and I’ve watched videos about underground cities—very large ones—originating from around that time when mankind decided it was safer to hide underground in what is now Turkey and northern Iraq. Something big and bad happened back then. Then there was the discovery of the Hiawatha impactor in NW Greenland. Okay, that all takes care of the mammoth, giant-sloth and sabre-tooth extinctions with a bit of the other co-lateral damage like the Clovis peoples et al.

But this seems to be going further than all that small-time comet-collision stuff. There’s real drama: the creation of NASA, and the CIA with the CIA behaving badly right from the start, Magnetic Pole Shifts, and Suspicious0bservers and Solar Micronovae and the Chinese moon landing on the `Dark Side’ of the moon (I like PF’s description rather than the technically correct Far Side 🙂 ), discovering the Dark Side’s regolith showed signs of having been either Charcoal Grilled or Deep Roasted.

I’m only a third of the way in. The Chinese moon landing doesn’t feature as far as I know, so that Rabbit Hole has to wait. I only read about that this morning but it seems relevant. Ultima Thule is boring in comparison.

This is way better than any BBC FUBARs, SNAFUS, and BOHICAs aka Fake Facts. Way better. The Science is so far from being Settled, that those who claim it is are over a decade Out of Date! For fabulous New Year entertainment, follow the Top Link.

Everyone has biases, but there used to be a time they would strive to overcome them.

          The Canons of Journalism (1923)

In the modern age, when aspiration to scientific disinterest was paramount, the Canons of Journalism stood as beacons of guidance. It was in this milieu that globalism began, an attempt to organise order out of chaos. We have since traversed the post-modern age, which gave us the precautionary principle, safe spaces, and the rotten neo-Marxist Rainbow ideology of identity politics, political correctness and cultural Marxism. The problem is they never saw us segue into the post-truth age of gender fluidity and the insanity of subjectivism.
Bias is king. Your truth is incontestable, and if you’re the news organisation peddling it, then you put your influence and power behind that subverted, biased utterance. Whether it intersects with the truth is anyones’ guess. And instead of being locked-up for claiming that you may look like a hardened criminal male but you perceive yourself to be a girl, so now you’re locked up with the girls and free to rape and pillage .. as indeed he did.
Makes a complete nonsensical farce of neo-Marxist identity politics and an absurdity of the Rainbow Cult.

A substantive growing rejection of this Leftist insanity is routinely concealed by the biased MSM.
Twenty countries rejected the UN Global Migration Compact and a growing list of European Countries have since 2017 obliterated the centre Left and reasserted the triple securities of economy, borders and cultural identity. The upcoming EU elections in May will be fascinating as will the likely removal of that faux-napoleonic globalist delusion, Macaroon. The yellow shirts continue their effective and noble battle.
Meanwhile, the newly elected president of Brasil, Bolsonaro has intimated a foreign policy based on an alignment of the largest Christian countries of the World (Brazil, USA and Russia) as the basis of a bloc of nations to counterbalance the threat of China.
It is said that a new age of prosperity and freedom is dawning.
Down-under, still trapped and mired in old ideologies, there may still be some way to go, but globally, no matter what they tell you, we stand at the eve of huge change.

Well, I read the 1923 “Canons”. As I relate them to our 2019 I can’t see that they mean much more than an individual’s wishful thinking.

I could find hope in your sanguine expectations were it not for the fear that I hold for our own May election, which promises to put our Marxists in government, with all the tools they need to complete their objective of abolishing private management of industry already in place.

The primary tool that they have been using since they failed to gain control through the crash of 1987 is public debt. They are using public debt to destroy private capital.

BTW. You have my green thumb. And, here in Oz, thank God for the Murdoch Press. They do stick to the facts.

Although it’s an easy thing to do, it’s too simple to blame (most of) the talking heads on television.

If you watch the ABC’s NEWS24, you would get the distinct impression that there is this ‘Groupthink’. News24 has so many people who read the news, and they all say the same things, and they ALL have the same perceived biasses, and political leanings, and are all seemingly in agreement with everyone else, and that’s where NEWS24 comes in handy. Because they do just news, they cannot have the one presenter on air all the time, so there is a constant stream, day and night of different presenters, and all of them lean in the same direction and all of them have these perceived biasses.

However, all of them are just there to do one thing, and that one thing is for their own personal advancement, to impress the people above so that they get an extended position, a full time reading job, because, after all, that’s all they do, read.

All they have to do is to prove that they can read the autocue, and do that in a manner so as the audience thinks it looks like they are doing it off the top of their head, and not make out too much like they are reading the scrolling text near the camera they look into. The additions are the nuances, the facial expressions the emphasis on some wording, sometimes even a look.

That’s all they have to do.

Now I know that there are dedicated ones who have risen up the ladder slowly to positions similar to Leigh Sales, and her like on other channels, but ALL of them still read off that autocue. The bigger they are, then perhaps they may get some input.

So, in reality it’s the script writers who are the ones we need to be addressing, because they are the ones who add the bias, and the political leanings, and therein lies the whole thing proving it is the ABC itself, because it all has to be approved, and sometimes even run by legal.

If they (those presenters) read that autocue for so long during their career, then it’s natural that they end up believing it all anyway, so it becomes easier.

All they have to do is look good and read from the script, because in most cases, for those ‘stories’ which are the ones we refer to, they are in fact just that, a script.

Sometimes you can actually learn something from TV, and the case in point on this is Mike Moore from the Australian original Frontline, first broadcast back in 1994 by the ABC, giving insight into itself somewhat.

    Tony.

The script writers simply follow their instructions, they are perhaps the least able to influence anything, next to the production crews (camera, audio, lighting, set design etc). Presenters all come from the Left of politics because Their ABC does not employ conservatives for any face time jobs. The believe the accepted mantra from the outset.

‘The script writers simply follow their instructions, they are perhaps the least able to influence anything …’

The producers and script writers are fully responsible for pushing global warming hysteria, nobody from above or below has the power to intervene.

I don’t believe that. Script writers are the ones who produce the narrative required by the program managers and presenters, to meet the objectives sought. Script writers are not journalists who present their own opinions on subject matter. Script writers do not have an option to present their views should they differ from the accepted program narrative (if they wish to have a job).

The ABC newsroom is full of scribes, both the writers and producers are journalists, its all their fault. Geoffrey Luck is an old hand who is saddened that aunty has lost its code.

‘Opinion, unless as a direct quote, would see the reporter sent back to rewrite. Yet the other day a Washington correspondent took it upon himself to characterise Donald Trump as “a President under siege”, then interpreted his comments about past policies as “insulting the other side”.

‘Such lazy, undisciplined writing goes unremarked, but is understandably seen as evidence of bias. Too often, interviewers don’t just ask questions, they argue.

What explains the ABC’s departure from its charter and its own code of practice and editorial guidelines? How does the public get the impression of “groupthink” on issues from Palestine to same-sex marriage to climate change?’

Politicians must persuade consumers to make dramatic lifestyle changes if devastating climate change and mass extinctions are to be averted

Even the French said “No!” Coercion (financial most likely) and additionally a police state to enforce it will be required. My nephew who was an Obama loving indoctrinate just ten years ago has now grown up and become a CC skeptic, and a critic of socialism of any stripe.

jo – happy to hear the card arrived. hope you have had a restful festive season.

this forum seems to be for Labour members to express their own views, but it shows once more that only the far left’s approved agenda is to be tolerated.
as if BBC is not obsessively pro-CAGW & anti-Brexit!

Labour Policy Forum: End ‘outsourcing’ at the BBC & other BBC reforms
Posted on 21-11-18 by Abdullah Adam
The BBC in the last decade (especially from 2010 onwards) has devolved from not only becoming a megaphone for the establishment as well as for centrist journalists (regularly invited on to offer oppinions to BBC journalists) & think-tanks but now has also become a platform for demagogues for the far-right (e.g. Nigel Farage, Steve Bannon, ex-EDL leader Tommy Robinson) not only on news programme but also public platforms like Question Time. What’s worse the BBC not only goes out it’s way to either ignore or belittle leftwing critics of neo-liberal economics the BBC, for the sake of ‘balance’, also gives platform to cranks like the ‘Taxpayers Alliance’ as well as to ‘climate deniers’…

Therefore in order to address this issue I propose…
    5) Investigate why when it comes to science & environmentalism the BBC insists on bringing on journalists & think-tank reps rather then interview (or even when it does it does so briefly) academics who are experts on those subjects as well as why the BBC is still hostile to issues like environmental justice…

    7) Investigate whether the BBC’s current affairs, environmental/science programmes should place more emphasis on ‘objective rigour’ then it does now…

    9) Have BBC Trust board members 100% elected by the public & it’s staff rather then the government as well as invite David Attenborough & Jeremy Isaacs onto it’s board…

    10) Discuss with retired (but pro-Corbyn?) former BBC journalists at a future Labour government whether John Birt’s reforms of the BBC have caused the BBC to become a ‘neoliberal’ institution (e.g. it’s bias in economic reporting) as well as whether it’s current affairs/environmental/science programmes are now contributing to the ‘dumbing down’ of Britain (i.e. the BBC is contributing to the proliferation of misinformation in the UK by inviting climate change sceptics as well as pro-austerity economists from rightwing think-tanks) & what needs to change in order to reverse this. Also have this discussion either chaired by ***Clive Lewis MP/****OwenJones/***George Monbiot/****Seamus Milne.

****Wikipedia: Owen Jones is an English newspaper columnist, political commentator, and left-wing political activist. He writes a column for The Guardian, (intermittently) for the New Statesman and previously contributed to The Independent…
He describes himself as a “fourth-generation socialist”; his grandfather was involved with the Communist Party and his parents met as members of the Trotskyist Militant group…
He has made television appearances as a political commentator, including several BBC News shows, Sky News, Channel 4 News, ITV’s Daybreak and BBC One’s Question Time… He is a member of the National Advisory Panel for the Centre for Labour and Social Studies, a left-wing think tank…
In an interview with The Student Journals, Jones commented that some have accused him of using politics only to raise his own profile and that he risks being seen as a “lefty rent-a-gob”…
Jones was described as a staunch critic of Donald Trump during his campaign for the presidency of the United States in 2016…

****Wikipedia: Seamus Milne is a British journalist and political aide. In October 2015 he was appointed the Labour Party’s Executive Director of Strategy and Communications under new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, initially on leave from The Guardian. In January 2017, he left the paper to work for the party permanently…
Milne contributed a Foreword to Stasi State or Socialist Paradise (2015) by John Green and Bruni de la Motte about East Germany…

In today’s Sunraysia daily Mildura’s ( Vic) top temp yesterday 4th Jan was listed as 46.4c at 3.33pm , but the BOM online shows it was 45.5 c at 3.30 pm.
Sunraysia daily claims today that the top temp was 46.4 c at 3.33 pm , so we have a 0.9c temp difference in just 3 minutes. That’s 3.30pm to 3.33pm if we are to believe the Sunraysia daily.
I’m sure this also happened a week ago where the Sun daily claimed a higher temp for Thursday and Friday than the temp claimed by the BOM online. But I can’t find those BOM listings now, so I’ll just have to make further enquiries.
Does the BOM still make electronic temp readings every second or do they now average it over a longer period like the USA and UK? The UK is over a minute and the USA over 5 minutes. Jo Nova and Jennifer Marohasy have written about this in previous posts about 12 months ago.

BTW the BOM online shows temps yesterday at 3pm to be 45.4c and at 4 pm to be 44.9 c. Here’s the link again to BOM’s latest page online and still showing 45.5 c at 3.30 pm on 4-1-2019. Next reading is at 4 pm and no mention of a jump in temp at 3.33 pm to a high of 46.4 c. Seems something strange is going on, but a jump of a further 0.9 c in just three minutes is difficult to understand.

followup to comment #16 which has come out of moderation.
BBC never seems to disclose Clive’s BBC’s connections:

Nov 2016: BBC: UK must lead on climate change, says Labour’s Clive Lewis
The UK should be showing international leadership on tackling climate change following Donald Trump’s US victory, Labour frontbencher Clive Lewis says.
In a speech in London, he said “there is a real danger that, without urgent action, the election of Donald Trump could mean ‘game over’ for our planet”.
He said a Labour government would ensure 60% of UK energy came from low carbon or renewable sources by 2030.
Mr Trump has said he wants the US to leave the Paris Agreement on climate…

Later he told the BBC that there was “potentially a danger” over climate change once Mr Trump becomes US president: “He said quite clearly before the election he’s a climate change sceptic.
“America is a leading partner in international climate change agreements… this will struggle to work if America isn’t part of it.
“I think it’s incumbent on our government, this country, to show real international leadership when it comes to Paris, when it comes to climate change, when it comes to supporting renewables…

The National Grid has said the UK is likely to miss its EU 2020 target to produce 15% of total energy from renewables.
While it said Britain’s progress on wind and solar-powered electricity has been quicker than some people expected, the rate of progress towards electric and hydrogen cars needs to almost treble (from 15 terrawatt hours (TWh) to 40TWh) to meet the target.

7 Sept 2018: Guardian: BBC admits ‘we get climate change coverage wrong too often’
Briefing sent to editorial staff on global warming says ‘you do not need a denier to balance the debate’
    by Damian Carrington
In a briefing note sent to all staff warning them to be aware of false balance, the corporation has offered a training course on how to report on global warming. The move follows a series of apologies and censures for failing to challenge climate sceptics during interviews, including Nigel Lawson.

The briefing note, obtained by the website Carbon Brief (LINK), was sent on Thursday by Fran Unsworth, the BBC’s director of news and current affairs. It includes a statement of BBC editorial policy that begins: “Climate change has been a difficult subject for the BBC, and we get coverage of it wrong too often.”…

It then states: “Manmade climate change exists: If the science proves it we should report it.” In the section warning on false balance it says: “To achieve impartiality, you do not need to include outright deniers of climate change in BBC coverage, in the same way you would not have someone denying that Manchester United won 2-0 last Saturday. The referee has spoken.”…

The four-page briefing note sent by Unsworth starts with a blunt statement on the science: “Climate change IS happening.” It also covers the implications of global warming: “There is a general consensus that it could be devastating in many different ways.” It ends with “common misconceptions” used to deny manmade warming, including that “not all scientists think manmade climate change is real” and “climate change has happened before”…

Richard Black, director of the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit thinktank and a former BBC environment correspondent, said: “The creation of this course is welcome news. The BBC was wrong in my view to scrap the science seminars that it set up in 2011 – very few producers and presenters have a science background…

4 Jan: Paul Homewood: UK Climate Trends – 2018
The Met Office has now published its data for 2018…
As the 10-year averages below indicate, UK temperatures have been stable for some time, and arguably are now beginning to drop back…
    LINK
The current 10-year average of 9.18C is back to where it was for 1996 to 2005. Significantly, it is also close to the 30-year average of 9.15C.

Of course, 10 years is far too short a period to be meaningful in terms of long term trends and projections. But exactly the same argument applies to that short burst of warming, which effectively began in 1989 and ended in 2006.
What we can say with confidence, however, is that that period of warming has now ended for the time being…

0/T Has any posters received their 2018/2019 Insurance premiums for Building and Contents ??
My elderly mother on a property on the Mid Nth Coast NSW just received hers before Xmas..
She almost had a heart attack !
A well known “big” Insurance company, quote for year ie 2017/2018 was $1372.00
    2018/2019 is $8954.74
    ONLY a $7582 rise ….!!!!!!

Upon investigation seems THIS Insurance company is accepting data in regard to “National Flood Insurance databases, specialist hydrology
and terrain mapping (and of course) insurance claims information.”…..
My family have lived on the same property for almost 70yrs in a flood zoned area with no water EVER reaching the house or buildings and noone in the area has made any recent claims ..to her knowledge

Local,State and Federal forces at work here..of course Climate Change policy would be “blended in “…

Same thing happened around Maitland after the April 2015 storm which flooded quite a bit of the area. The price rises you quote are very similar to those in the suburb of Lorn which is a very trendy suburb, but one with a long flood history sitting as it does right next to the Hunter River. It is flat alluvial land.

It hasn’t actually been flooded since The Biggie in 1955 (due to massive levies and sacrificial spillways) but has come close a few times since and the insurance companies started throwing their weight around down here after the Pasha Bulka and April storms, claiming that there was an increased risk. If they didn’t notice the risk after the 1955 episode when there was between 6 and 12 feet of water in most houses then there is not much hope for them, but any excuse will do.

A friend of ours fought back and had his premium reduced to the original amount when he found out they were assessing premiums based purely on post codes, so that broad swathes of land that had never seen water were being lumped in with those that had historically flooded multiple times. By showing that his property was well above flood level he was able to have his risk level returned to normal.

You may find that different insurers use varying systems to assess flood risk. If your property is higher, point that out, if not — shop around.

Actually, my parents had a similar issue – the data the insurance companies used to assess flood risk for their house was wrong – their house was a good 20 m above the nearest creek and had zero chance of being affected by any flood, short of the one experienced by Noah.

Its worth asking – how many people must be wrong stung for massive premiums based on false data…

I guess some insurers are just like the IPCC …a form of cash extraction ( carbon taxes ) based on wrong info ( IPCC nonsense )….

If your knowledge is better than the Insurance company. then Self Insure. Why pay exorbitant premiums for low risks? All you need to ask your self is; What is the likely cost if the house is inundated? If less than say 4 years premiums. then stuff their insurance.

I do this calculation every time I hire a car. Mostly it is not worth taking the additional premium. My claims history is once every 10 years. On that basis I could pay for their whole car twice over in the event of a write off accident (assuming I did not take the insurance and had an accident during the hire period)

“I was able to project my own particular political positions on things in a very subtle way.“
Subtle!! To a discerning viewer capable of using the gray matter, about as subtle as using a sledge hammer to crack a peanut.
OK, I will acknowledge it, a presentation can be subtly ideologically bias.
Voice tone and inflection, body language, make up as much of human communication as the actual words spoken. A raised eye brow, a subtle shake of the head, rolled eyes, a pregnant pause …. etc, conveys views even more than the words spoken.
I fear most the person who can say the opposite to what they believe with true conviction, mmm a politician?

People using bias and thinking they are “very subtle” are not anywhere near as subtle as they imagine. They fool the people who want to be fooled.

When I see someone with bias who is trying to be “subtle” I know that they don’t have a strong case (even without looking closely at their case) and I know that they know they don’t have a strong case because with a strong case you don’t need to depend on cunning and deception.

In counselling, it’s recognised that counsellors have biases and prejudices. One of the skills of the good counsellor is to not let those biases and prejudices influence the counsellors responses and behaviours whilst with a client. There is supervision available to help the counsellor do this. And good counsellors are diligent in their efforts to be professional in this way.

The journalism “profession” and teaching is being led down the garden path to a paddock where it’s all weeds and a toxic dump …….the job is becoming more and more despised and discredited and good journalists stand out like the proverbial

    the CAGW mob infects Glastonbury:

21 Jun 2017: Uni of Exeter: Top scientist to talk climate change at Glastonbury
At the festival’s Speaker’s Forum, Professor Richard Betts, of the University of Exeter, will discuss the science of climate change and take part in panel discussions and interviews with other prominent figures in the climate change debate…
Following a talk on climate science and human health impacts on Friday morning, he will join a panel discussion that evening with the CEOs of Greenpeace UK and Friends of the Earth UK, the co-leader of the Green Party Jonathan Bartley and the Labour MP for Norwich South, ***Clive Lewis…

On the Sunday, he will be “In Conversation” with the BBC’s Environment Analyst, Roger Harrabin…

Professor Betts intends to cut through the clamour of alarm and scepticism to explain the current situation.
“I will give a balanced scientific view which is clear that the extremes of climate change denial and alarmism are both wrong,” he says.
“We can’t deny that we humans are having an effect on our climate, but we also need to be level-headed and not assume that catastrophe is imminent and unavoidable, as is sometimes suggested – there is still hope.
“I try to push back against polarisation. With big, complex issues requiring individual and political action, most people have something to bring to the discussion if you conduct it in the right way.”

Professor Betts will also speak at Bluedot music, science and arts festival at the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire on 8 July, addressing the question: “Can we live with a warming planet?” …
One of Glastonbury’s headline acts is Radiohead, whose lead singer and guitarist Thom Yorke studied at the University of Exeter and has frequently called for action to combat climate change.

    The irony burns.

‘Jamie Angus, Director of the BBC World Service Group, says: “In 2018 I pledged that the BBC World Service Group would move beyond just talking about the global ‘fake news’ threat, and take concrete steps to address it. Poor standards of global media literacy, and the ease with which malicious content can spread unchecked on digital platforms mean there’s never been a greater need for trustworthy news providers to take proactive steps.’

BBC seem to have erased all Clive Lewis’s work for them, plus they never mention his work for the Beeb in any article I’ve checked since he became a pollie.
note Isabelle, below, doesn’t name BBC either:

10 Feb 2017: International Business Times: Labour’s saviour? Clive Lewis: Corbyn ally and rebellious socialist who voted against Brexit bill
The Labour MP has been a soldier, journalist and socialist politician.
    By Isabelle Gerretsen
Here’s everything you need to know about the self-described proud socialist…
Lewis has had a varied career, working as a journalist and soldier before becoming an MP in 2015…
On 8 February 2017, Lewis resigned from the shadow cabinet after he refused to vote for the Brexit bill, opposing Corbyn’s three-line whip order that all Labour MPs vote in favour of leaving the EU…

    1. In his keynote address at the party conference, Lewis planned to say that he “would not seek to change” Labour’s policy on renewing Trident submarines, even though he opposes the programme. The sentence was taken out, allegedly by communications strategist Seamus Milne, minutes before Lewis took to the stage. He was notified of the change by a post-it note and was said to be furious. Several weeks later Lewis was replaced as shadow defence secretary by Trident critic Nia Griffith.

    2. Lewis defied Corbyn’s three-line whip order that all Labour MPs should vote in favour of the Brexit bill. He said that he could not “vote for something I believe will ultimately harm the city I have the honour to represent, love and call home.” Corbyn said his resignation was “not a disaster” and accused the BBC of reporting “fake news” after presenters questioned him about whether he plans to stand down after rumours circulated that Lewis might launch a leadership challenge.

1 Aug: Thomson Reuters Foundation: Chinese most at risk of death from deadly heatwaves, study says
    by Isabelle Gerretsen
Deadly heatwaves could kill people working outdoors within hours in China’s most populous, agricultural region by 2100 as a result of climate change, scientists said on Tuesday.
The North China Plain, home to 400 million people, faces the greatest risk to human life from rising temperatures of any location on earth, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) said in the journal Nature Communications.

“Climate change is going to trigger deadly heatwaves,” lead researcher Elfatih Eltahir told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
“The intensity of those heatwaves means that survival of humans would be questionable.”…

The World Health Organization says heat stress, linked to climate change, is likely to cause 38,000 extra deaths a year worldwide between 2030 and 2050…
People cannot survive unprotected in the open for more than six hours at a wet-bulb temperature – which reflects the combined effects of heat and humidity – of 35 degrees Celsius (95°F), the study said…

3 Jan: Thomson Reuters Foundation: Breakthrough in plant engineering could boost productivity, feed millions more
      by Thin Lei Win
A new process that adjusts the way crops turn sunlight into energy could boost their yield by 40 percent, scientists say…
“The annual loss in production from wheat and soybean in Midwestern United States… is enough to feed roughly 200 million more people from this area alone,” Paul South, a molecular biologist and lead author, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation…

The study is part of an international project to boost global food production sustainably. Funders include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the British government…

“Lots more work to be done… but glad the researchers have started focusing on some important C3 crops,” he added.
The term “C3 crops” refer to most major food crops that uses the C3 photosynthesis process. Crops that use a different form of photosynthesis are maize, sugarcane and sorghum…

out of date, but worth noting:

Thomson Reuters Foundation: Following the climate money
Dates: 18 June22 June: Location: Vietnam
        Programme: Reporting Climate Change
This is an opportunity provided by the Reporting Climate Change programme: Find out more (LINK)…

In 2016, developed countries provided an estimated $42 billion in climate finance. This figure is projected to grow to $67 billion by 2020, and ultimately to $100 billion. Behind these substantial sums lies a complex web of funds, grants, loans, investments, and much more. We want to help journalists get to grips with this world and produce engaging stories of interest to policy makers and ordinary people alike…

What kind of stories? From the melting glaciers in the Himalayas to deforestation, changing weather patterns and the impact of typhoons, flooding or drought, the possibilities are vast…
This programme will draw on the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s long track record of covering climate change and climate funding for a global audience. It will feature an intensive 5-day workshop in Vietnam…

If you are new to climate funding, there are plenty of resource to help you familiarise yourself with the subject. We recommend the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s dedicated news on climate change, as well as Climate Funds Update and the ODI’s “10 things to know about climate finance in 2016”…

        FUNDING
We will cover all transport and subsistence costs of journalists participating in this programme. However any journalists who attend from Australia, New Zealand or Japan will have to cover their own costs of participation.

It’s a real problem. Not the bias – that’s been evident for a long time. Not what to do about it, neither – that’s been quite apparent for a long time too. De-fund it, scrap it, sell it off – whatever. Not important.
The problem is the political/ bureaucratic inability to fix the problem. Meaning, they aren’t going to/ can’t/ don’t want to fix it.
The problem is, it HASN’T been fixed, and isn’t likely to be. Not by them. Whomever you consider “them” to be.
It will only be fixed by us. How?
    The floor’s open.

    Misspelling?

    “Narcisistic or delusional?”

    Narcissistic?

It may be that I do not recognize a unique Australian word, but I do not know the word “Narcisistic?

I had thought the slang word Narc to be an American colloquialism, maybe, I am mistaken?
    /bad humor.

I believe Mark nailed the summation response:

    “Mark M January 5, 2019 at 6:50 am
    Narcisistic or delusional?
    Criminal.”

Of course there are quite a few other adjectives that could be added to accurately describe clive lewis, but not anywhere near as concise.
e.g. disrespectful, condescending, smug, pompous, braggart, undeserving, ill repute, despicable, repellent, repugnant, oleaginous, hairy palmed, pathogenic, lower than slime, psychotic, etc. etc.
