Rank denial: Australia spends $5b but has “no climate plan”

When is five billion dollars equal to zero? When the climate cult is doing maths.

Australia spends at least five billion dollars a year trying to reduce emissions, yet it’s as if it doesn’t exist.

The angst continues, along with the denial that Australia has “a climate plan” :

“The fight is not over,” said  Greenpeace Australia.

Calling the results “horrifying,” NYU professor Kate Crawford said on Twitter: “We’re on the brink of climate catastrophe. Australia is one of the top carbon emitters per capita in the world. The new leader has no climate change policy, and walked into parliament waving a chunk of coal. Not even kidding.”

Australia has the most aggressive climate action plan per capita on Earth. Just ask the ANU. Blakers et al wrote the report called: Australia: the renewable energy superstar. It showed that, per capita, Australia is installing unreliable generators in a blitzkrieg pace, more than twice as fast as Germany is, and 4-5 times faster per capita than the EU, USA, Japan and China.

Despair out of all proportion:

“A coalition of a small number of bad actors now threaten the survivability of our species,” Michael Mann, atmospheric science professor and director of the Penn State Earth System Science Center, told ThinkProgress.

@GreenpeaceAP

This is not a tweet we thought we’d have to make. We’re looking into the eyes of our friends, families and colleagues and seeing them all searching for answers, but only able to ask the same questions: How? Why? Where do we go from here?

Obviously it doesn’t matter what Scott Morrison spends or does — they’ll still be “horrified”. It shows this has nothing to do with the climate, and nothing to do with emissions. It’s only about power. What matters is that Australia didn’t elect a grand socialist. Anything less is a disaster to the acolytes of Big Government.

It’s time sensible people stopped trying to appease innumerateglobal bullies.

    Its mealy-mouthed.

Yes and this sort of rubbish is continuing while much of the rest of the world is building hundreds and hundreds of new coal fired power stations. Go figure. Over time more and more Australians will wake up to the reality that any action on climate change is pointless and counter-productive, and the stronger any party supports such action the less popular it will be.

And the false rationalization for this pointless action is a result of the knowingly and willful misrepresentation of science for the purpose of supporting policy designed to harm the economies of the developed world.

Deep down in some leftists there is an evil tendency to do just that. It’s just in their nature. They simply hate the West so much they rather have it destroyed in any way they can, be it via the climate change scam or any other scam they can create. Then there are the gullible or stupid who don’t even know how little CO2 there is in our atmosphere and how it’s impossible that any action on our part to cut emissions will have an impact on altering that amount let alone the climate. Then there are the wealthy who are in it just for the money and/or power, many of whom must know CAGW is a hoax. It’s the biggest scam of all time. Scam artists have been put into prison for life for lesser scams.

No, its designed to reduce the population of the developed world, and in so doing, it will also reduce the population of the developing world. Never forget that this is about “saving GAIA from the human virus,” and nothing else.

So what? If the fantasy science was true, it’s only total CO2 which matters.

Since when is Global temperature measured ‘per capita’?

China, the world’s greatest CO2 emitter is a receiver of carbon credit cash, partly for their hydro stations because they didn’t build coal fired power stations. They claim to be an historic victim as the CO2 was created in the 20th century and not their fault and they demand compensation.

98% of all CO2 comes from the countries demanding we pay them. Per capita we have much more Global Warming than other countries and should receive much more money. The greatest amount should go to Tuvalu.

      Nonsense.

It really is time to recognise that all these greeny organisations are actually large business, remove their charity tax free status, & start taxing them at corporate rates. Their objectives are most definitely not charitable.

At least that way they would be doing something useful, like reducing the deficit.

They are NOT charities if they have a political agenda.
Take them off the charities register.
Maybe allow them to register as political lobby groups

These people are idiots… these people have NO grasp of any reality whatsoever.

Methinks these shysters-in-suits know exactly what they are doing. Take UN chief sock-puppet Antonio Guterres (somebody please, take him!) who’s spent the last month flying around the beautiful warm tropical cyclone-free South Pacific (aeroplanes, helicopters, limousines, 4x4s, staying at the best digs, eating the best food, surrounded by the obligatory troupe of media and secretaries and security and wives and concubines) whilst back in Europe ’twas cold and rainy and snowy and bulging full of Hillary & Obama’s illegals…

          https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/389490/antonio-guterres-visits-the-extreme-front-line-of-the-global-climate-emergency

yet he has the audacity to describe we Antipodeans as living on the “front-line” of some make-believe computer game “emergency” based on irrelevant falsified adjusted and out-dated dog-doo data?

“Mr Guterres tweeted that ‘rising seas threaten to drown’ Tuvalu, and warned it was ‘a sign of what’s in store for us all’, before making a plea for urgent climate action” [more taxes and laws]. Far cough!

Population of 11,192. Independent nation. Slightly behind that behemoth of the Pacific, Nauru with a population of 13,649.
Their CO2 output per capita may be the worst in the world, but amounts to exactly nothing.

Given that Australians support an entire continent with less population than Shanghai, there are more trees, more shrubs and more blades of grass per head of population than any other country. We probably have a lower per capita nett output than most countries. It may even be negative, certainly after a drought.

So we should be paid to exist with carbon credits from taxes on the rich tens of thousands of public servants who work for the EU and UN without owning a tree. 10,000 employees of the EU earn more than the British Prime Minister, even before all the tax breaks and free education and travel.

The EU is a scam as well as the UN. Unelected, unrepresentative ratbags accountable to no one.

Looking at the OCO2 imaging, it is reasonable to conclude that Australia’s net carbon emissions are more or less zero. NASA seems to be confirming that by trying to hype CO emissions from bushfires. I doubt that CO from bushfires is an issue. The birds flying round the perimeter of fires waiting to pick up escaping fauna don’t seem to be affected, unlike the birds hanging around wind turbines.

“NYU professor Kate Crawford said on Twitter: “We’re on the brink of climate catastrophe. Australia is one of the top carbon emitters per capita in the world.”

Two can play at this silliness.

Australia is the lowest carbon emitter per square kilometer in the world.

So here is the table.. in metric tons per square km
      Country CO2

      China 942
      United States 524
      India 628
      Russia 86
      Japan 3020
      Germany 2044
      South Korea 5848
      Iran 335

So to decrease our nett CO2 per acre we should be reversing the rivers, damming the streams, distributing the water in covered channels and greening the country, flooding Lake Eyre, filling the rivers with desalinated water geneated by windmills and solar panels when they actually had any output and putting back what our ab*riginal friends destroyed with their gift of fire. We could achieve a giant carbon sink which would save the world. Wouldn’t the Greens hate it.

Apparently the argument is that damns everywhere that secondarily provide the continent’s plants and animals with the best conditions Australia has experienced 5 million years would be – get this! – “uneconomic“.

          Can you believe that?

But let’s waste billions on solar farms, wind turbines and batteries, and pretend those are economic!… or even “renewable“! … and that those will, “save the environment”.

I seriously detest greenies and their ignorance and lies.

We don’t emit carbon, we burn it to produce essential energy, and that generates CO2.

      Serge Wright

In terms of global atmospheric CO2 levels, carbon emissions only matter from a per sq km perspective. The reason global CO2 levels are high and rising fast has very little to do with low population density countries with high per capita emissions, but lots to do with mega population centres with low to moderate per capita emissions. For example, if Australia’s per sq km emission levels were rellected globally, then CO2 levels would only be around 330ppm. However, if China’s per sq km CO2 emissions were reflected globally then CO2 levels would be above 2000ppm. In terms of per sq km comparison, China emits 18x more CO2 than Australia and India is about 10x more, which highlights the importance of population as being the biggest driver of global CO2.

Despite these very telling statistics, you’ll never see one climate protester on the lawns of the Chinese embassy in Canberra. I’ve tried asking climate alarmists why China is not a target, despite it’s massive CO2 footprint, but am yet to receive an answer. Of course I know the answer, but I just want to try and force out a confession 😉

        DMA

Actually human emissions of CO2 do not cause a response we can measure in the growth rate of atmospheric CO2. Australia and China could stop all CO2 emissions and the growth rate would not show a blip. All of this political posturing around the angst over emissions is baseless. If we need to reduce atmospheric CO2 we need to cool the oceans where it is mostly coming from.

The reality is that Green supporters and electorat s tend to be leaners rather lifters e.g. Public servants, Lawers and other unproductive types. The ALP’s new leader should announce that they are disassociating themselves from the Greens and placing them last on the ballot paper if they ever want to reclaim the productive people.

The message that CO2 is not bad is not cutting through now is it. The message that global warming is good is not cutting through now is it. The message that we are only 1% of the problem (and just behind Great Britain on the emitters list) is not cutting through is it. The message that AGW can not be an issue is not cutting through is it. The message that the temperature datasets (but not CO2 strangely) are manipulated to meet some agenda is not cutting through is it.

Election? Only as an example of marketing. I’m saying that the narrative supported on this blog, and which rightly points out the boondoggle for unreliable grid scale power, is not convincing a wider audience. In that aspect, it is similar to the policy platform promoted by Labor, which was beaten by a superior marketing strategy relentlessly promoted by the LNP.

For those who remember this is similar to VHS and Betamax, and we know how that turned out.

Rightly or wrongly, unless the message cuts through to the masses, it will fail. That is what I’m saying.

I remember, Betamax had a somewhat better quality picture than VHS but the short length of its tapes versus VHS (one hour for Betamax and two hours for VHS) and the price of the equipment (Betamax machines were more expensive than VHS machines) doomed Betamax.

Interestingly, Sony invented the technology used in the VHS format but could not get it to work properly so they sold it to JVC who was able to get it to work and the rest, as they say, is history. https://www.answers.com/Q/Who_invented_VHS

    meanwhile, China gets a pass…again.

CFC segment with Matt McGrath begins at 12min54sec, ends 15min18sec. McGrath says no-one will go to war with China over CFCs, or impose sanctions, because they need China’s cooperation on CO2:

AUDIO: 22 May: BBC World Service: Who caused mysterious increase in chemical that destroys ozone in the atmosphere?
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07b1v6n

22 May: BBC: Ozone layer: Banned CFCs traced to China say scientists
    By Matt McGrath
Researchers say that they have pinpointed the major sources of a mysterious recent rise in a dangerous, ozone-destroying chemical…
This new study (LINK) says this is mostly being caused by new gas production in the north-east provinces of China…

This new paper seems to confirm beyond any reasonable doubt that some 40-60% of the increase in emissions is coming from provinces in north eastern China.
Using what are termed “top-down” measurements from air monitoring stations in South Korea and Japan, the researchers were able to show that since 2012 CFC-11 has increased from production sites in eastern China…
They calculated that there was an 110% rise in emissions from these parts of China for the years 2014-2017 compared to the period between 2008-2012.
“This new study is based on spikes in the data on air that comes from China,” lead author Dr Matt Rigby, a reader at the University of Bristol, told BBC Inside Science (LINK)…

Does this have implications for climate change?
Yes – the authors say that these CFCs are also very potent greenhouse gases. One tonne of CFC-11 is equivalent to around 5,000 tonnes of CO2.
“If we look at these extra emissions that we’ve identified from eastern China, it equates to about 35 million tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere every year, that’s equivalent to about 10% of UK emissions, or similar to the whole of London.”…
The study has been published in the journal Nature.

never mind, says ABC – China is dealing with it:

23 May: ABC: Chinese industrial areas identified as a major source of illegal ozone-depleting CFC gas
      ABC Science By Anna Salleh
According to a study published today in Nature (LINK), emissions from eastern China of the chlorofluorocarbon CFC-11 have been increasing by 7,000 tonnes a year since 2013…
Dr Rigby said the team hoped to work with Chinese researchers to better nail down the culprits…

Tasmania’s Cape Grim station provided a comparison
The Cape Grim air monitoring station in north-west Tasmania also played an important role in the latest findings, said Australian co-author Paul Krummel from CSIRO’s Climate Science Centre…
It helped provide background measurements of CFC-11 in the circulating global air. This relatively clean air could provide a baseline to which air from the Korean and Japanese stations could be compared…
Dr Rigby agreed large areas of the world were not being monitored in detail which means some of the rogue emissions may be coming from elsewhere…

      (FINALE) What is China doing?
China, which has been a major producer of polyurethane foam, recently reported to the United Nations Environment Program that it has been cracking down on illegal production and use of ozone depleting chemicals, by destroying facilities and imposing fines.
And according to news reports, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment promised to strengthen its policing activities this year.

Who caused mysterious increase in chemical that doesnt destroys ozone in the atmosphere? So good that they are making more of it. CFCs produce the best refrigerants by miles.
The CFC scare was a prerunner to the CO2 scam, both based on totally flawed theories. CFCs did NOT affect the ozone layer. Again someone made money out of it and got the stuff banned. The ozone layer keeps on doing its thing it has always done for a few billion years, keeping life from frying under UV.

The greenies also love to hype the fact that human industry also makes toxic ozone, but the reality is the low level ozone is quite minuscule and quickly dissipates in most meteorological situations.

Well, unless you live in China, where ozone is emitted at ground level in seriously dangerous quantities. But it’s China, so who does not love the worlds largest authoritarian dictatorship, the most despotic in human history? The Stazi were total pikers compared to Beijing’s state security arms.

So they can pollute as much as they like, and the watermelon 5th-column in Australia will never say a word about it.

Blame a large American Chemical Company. This company held patents on many, if not most, of the CFCs from the 1950s and those patents were about to expire c.1988 – 1989. So it had the chemicals so covered made illegal (Montreal Protocol). The CHCs, also patented, were trotted out to replace the CFCs as the world’s refrigerants. Their patents expired around 2016 – 2017.

John Kerry was not at the start of the Paris party. He was away signing CHCs up to the Montreal Protocol. Why? Because their patents were about to run out. As soon as the CHCs were safely banned, he raced to Paris to help it over its hump (the small matter of a back door to leave by, I think) and get that signed away.

        • #

Needless to say, this large chemical company enjoyed a manufacturing monopoly for CHCs and had a monopoly over the CFCs in later years of their life time.

Of course a first step soluition to fixing groups like Greenpeace and WWF and all the others is to take away their tax free status. These political organisations are not charities, they are businesses and SHOULD pay taxes in Australia and every other country they operate in. Their books should be subject to audit just like every business in the country. These organisations truely are Bill Shortens “big end of town” controlling huge amounts of money and directing it where ever they like for their own political purposes.

    The cost of inaction …

CSIRO: Observed changes will continue into the future:

Projections suggest that for Australia –

hot days will become more frequent and hotter (very high confidence)
sea levels will rise (very high confidence)
oceans will become more acidic (very high confidence)
snow depths will decline (very high confidence)
extreme rainfall events are likely to become more intense (high confidence)

      Maptram

I see a possible contradictions in the CSIRO predictions. Oceans will become more acidic, presumably because of more CO2 going in from the atmosphere, but oceans will rise, presumably because of melting ice caps and glaciers. Unless the ice caps and glaciers are as acidic as the oceans, the only way both can happen is if more CO2 enters the oceans to overcome the lower acidity of the glaciers and ice caps. But if that happens, then atmospheric CO2 is reducing.

The other problem is that, unless there is a drastic change in seasons, the ice at both poles won’t melt at the same time.

      100

      • #

They can only get more acidic if they are acidic. The are massively basic, so if you accept that anything at all is happeing then they may become less basic, towards neutral.

        150

      • #
        PeterPetrum

And the other thing is, if the oceans do get warmer, then they will be only capable of holding less CO2, so they will become more basic, not more acidic. Some people seem to think if CO2 in the atmosphere increases it will also do so in the oceans. It does not seem to dawn on them that the slight increase in temperature of the oceans may be leading to the increase in atmospheric CO2, not the other way around. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

I’ve always liked swimming at the beach. And of course I have my favorite spots. Nowadays it is the beach at Port Elliot -either side of the headland ! I’ve been swimming there in Summer since 1999. No sea level rise what so ever !. In the 1970’s till the late 1990’s my favorite place was Eastern beach in East Gippsland ( close to Lakes Entrance ) though I also loved Cape Conron further East near the mouth of the Snowy River. No sea level rise what so ever in that 20 year time frame. When I was a kid in Melbourne in the 1960’s, our favorite beach to swim was “Half Moon Bay” near Sandringham on Port Phillip Bay..I was back there a year ago. NO Sea level rise either. It’s easy to tell because there is an old ship wreck ( the Cerberous ) on the point. A favorite dive spot for the Melbourne diving community. And that wreck while it’s rusting away slowly is still there to be seen above the waves just as it was 60 years ago.I I believe my own eyes and experience. If I don’t see sea levels rising IT AINT HAPPENING.

report produced by the IEA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, the U.N. Statistics Division, the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO)- so you know where it is going – more RE:

22 May: ThomsonReutersFoundation: Patchy progress on electricity access casts shadow on global goal
    by Megan Rowling
Globally, those living without electricity dropped to about 840 million in 2017 from 1 billion in 2016, said a report tracking progress towards a global goal on energy for 2030…
Yet without stepped-up action, 650 million people will still be left without access to electric power in 2030 – nine out of 10 of them living in sub-Saharan Africa, the report warned…

“I am particularly concerned by the dramatic lack of access to reliable, ***modern and ***sustainable energy in certain parts of the world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, a region where we need to really concentrate our efforts,” said Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Across sub-Saharan Africa, only 44% of people had access to electric power in 2017, compared with a global rate of 89%.
Urban areas worldwide are far more connected, with 97% of residents able to switch on the lights, compared with rural communities, where only 79% can, although the gap is narrowing…

To connect the poorest and hardest-to-reach households, off-grid power – including solar lighting, solar home systems and, increasingly, mini grids – would be crucial, the report said…

But as populations are growing each year, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, the number of people cooking with dirty fuels and methods was stagnant at close to 3 billion…

16 May: EverythingLubbock: Wind turbines and their fight against severe storms
    By Victoria Larned
As two tornadoes touched down in Lynn County in early May, wind turbines were in their path. This left many people wondering, how strong of storms can wind turbines manage?…
However, when winds reach strengths starting at approximately 45 mph, the turbine’s sensors recognize the speed and shut down…
“If the turbines don’t shut offline, you have what is called overspeed. The turbine turns faster than what they are designed to handle and don’t shut off. The turbine comes to pieces,” Harrall said.

Turbine designs are not built to withstand tornado strength winds, and could sustain damage, according to Harrall.
“It can be very expensive to repair wind farms once they are damaged,” Harrall said…

So called renewables seems to be the only area where batteries are rated in Watts. You see it in every announcement, and it is totally meaningless in terms of understanding what they are installing.

While I am sooking, I am also bemused by power packs that get ratings like “30,000 mAh” 30,000mAh?? really?

23 May: ABC: Mega mine next to Adani quietly put on hold, thousands of promised jobs in doubt
Exclusive by Specialist Reporting Team’s Laura Gartry
    Updated 18 minutes ago
A $6.7 billion Chinese mega mine coal project adjacent to the Adani venture in Queensland’s Galilee Basin is in doubt after the company abandoned its bid for a mining lease.
The proposed China Stone open-cut and underground thermal coal mine was planned to be built 300 kilometres west of Mackay, promising more than 3,000 jobs.

The company will not explain why it abandoned the process, but analysts believe the project is no longer aligned with China’s interests in coal ***and is financially “unviable” given the difficulty companies face obtaining finance for coal developments…

The project was on track to gain five mining leases after it was granted conditional approval from the Queensland Government late last year…
The China Stone project has flown comparatively ***under the radar compared to Adani…

Ms Trad said like the Adani mine, the project needed to stack up both environmentally and economically.
“Clearly MacMines, after they have done their own due diligence, have made a commercial decision,” she said…

***Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said delays to the Adani approval process and subsequent intervention to try and speed the process up had had no impact on China Stone project investors.
“I don’t think it has had any impact, our exports are growing. Our exports are at record levels,” she said…

***Queensland Mines Minister Anthony Lynham said he has been assured the project will be resumed in the future…
***(Tim) Buckley said the move suggested the project was not aligned with China’s changing interests in coal…

Chief executive of the Queensland Resources Council Ian Macfarlane said changes in development timelines are “not unusual” and pointed out there are six potential mining projects in the region…

The likes of Trad, ABC, Fairfax, etc better start making up their mind whether or not they like and/or respect China.
btw – China’s track record of developing new mines in Australia is PATHETIC. This is surprising as you would expect 1 person in 1.2 billion to have some inkling as to how to develop a new mine.

    what to say?

23 May: AFR: Adani’s Qld solar farm suffers six-month connection delay
    by Angela Macdonald-Smith
Adani’s flagship solar power project in Queensland has been complete for six months but is still not feeding electricity into the grid, a stark illustration of the chronic connection problems that have slowed the country’s influx of renewables into the supply system…
But Adani Renewables said following recent rule changes it had experienced “unforeseen connection delays” outside its control, and noted the issues had affected several other renewable projects…

Last year the Australian Energy Market Commission tightened technical requirements and other rules for connecting new plants to the grid as it sought to keep the supply system stable and secure. It required technical standards to be negotiated for each new connection, tailored to the local area, which caused expensive upgrades and delays at some wind and solar farms…
Powerlink chief executive Merryn York said the company expected the solar farm to be fully connected “shortly”.
Ms York said recent changes to the National Electricity Rules had placed greater obligation on those seeking to connect to the grid to not harm the operation and security of the wider power system…
An AEMO spokeswoman said the connection was likely “mid-year”…

Connection delays are not the only issue hampering the boom in the renewables sector; several wind and solar projects have also been hit by transmission losses in congested areas of the grid, which has eroded the economics of the investments.
Silverton, held in the Powering Australian Renewables Fund between AGL and QIC is among those affected, with generation from turbines having to be curtailed to protect the grid.
Just 38 of the wind farm’s 58 turbines are generating power at night, and only 13 during the day…

The recent horsesh*t about birds, water, native title and anything else you can dream of was put to bed by the project team years ago.
The recent stalling actions have not been to do with any new information. They have been stalling activities. Nothing more, nothing less.
I only hope the project proceeds for the benefit of thousands of India’s poor.

The underlying fear of all the climate catastrophists is their fear that we’ll make such a mess of our environment that we’ll exterminate ourselves as a species.
I can’t see a problem with that. It’s a certainty that dear old Gaia will get on quite nicely without us – after all, she managed to do without us for a few billion years before we turned up as a species, and will probably do okay without us in the future. And if she can’t, who cares? We won’t be here to regret anything.

It shows an incredible level of vanity on the part of the duck squeezers to think that we have some inherent right or duty to exist for ever as a species. As dear Doris once said, “Que sera!”

caller to Alan Jones this morning rightly said Qld Premier was insincere yesterday on the Adani issue; however, the caller didn’t get an opportunity to say whether or not he was in favour of Carmichael mine going ahead or not (the impression I got was he was for the mine). Jones took it as being in line with his anti-Adani stance and said he’d be speaking on Adani a little later.

Jones then did his usual anti-Adani rant, making all kinds of accusations.
however, what is ridiculous is, if it weren’t for the pro-Adani voters in Qld – Liberal, Labor and any other party or none – the Coalition would not have won the election, and Jones would not be bragging all week that he’d correctly predicted the outcome.

he has avoided the Adani angle all week, which has made all his post-election analysis meaningless. a shame, given almost everyone around him on 2GB or on Sky – Bolt, Credlin – are pro-Adani.

22 May: Breitbart: Final Poll Before Election Day Has Brexit Party Lead on 37 Per Cent, Conservatives Collapse to 7 Per Cent
    by Joe Markham
According to the latest YouGov survey, the Brexit Party is now polling at 37 per cent, with its closest rival, the Liberal Democrats, on 19 per cent…
In stark contrast, the two establishment parties, Labour and the Conservatives, have fallen to historic lows with Labour polling at 13 per cent and the Tories at just seven per cent…
A staggering 65 per cent of former Conservative voters say they will now back the Brexit Party in the EU elections. Only 16 per cent of those who backed the Conservatives two years ago intend to do so again…

The figures are not much better for Labour, with only 31 per cent of past Labour voters planning to support the party on Thursday. Meanwhile, a combined 44 per cent of Labour voters have switched to either the Green Party or the Liberal Democrats, ***with 13 per cent having switched to the Brexit Party.

***This means that Nigel Farage’s pledge that he would target Labour supporters, as well as disillusioned Conservative voters, appears to have paid off…

    Hi Jo

I see that since the election the media of both right and left are still running the line that Australians want to take action on climate change. Where is the evidence for that position? Are they basing this on the same sort of failed polling that told them for the last 3 years that the ALP would win in a landslide? Just goes to show how much a religious like state of mind the media and politicians are trapped in when it comes to global warming.

As far as I can see every time we are offered a chance to vote we always vote for the least action. We have only ever been offered the dumb and dumber option by the major political parties with the do nothing option only put up by the fringe parties who will never, as far as I can see, be able to form government.

It’s funny how some in politics and the media want to have plebiscites for all sorts of issues, indigenous recognition, becoming a republic, but never on the most important to the future of the country. Wonder why?

23 May: UK Independent: Climate crisis: UK should dramatically cut working hours to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, study says
Impacts of economic activity confront us with ‘necessity to be lazy’, authors say
    by Harry Cockburn
Europeans all need to work far shorter hours each week to help combat the climate crisis, a study (LINK) has said.

The think tank Autonomy said with the existing carbon intensity of our economies and current levels of productivity, the UK would need to adopt a nine-hour working week in order to cut emissions by enough to meet the Paris climate agreement targets and keep global warming below 2C.
The paper suggests Sweden would have to cut its working hours to 12 a week, and Germany to just six…

The report’s recommendations are based on UN and OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) data on greenhouse gas emissions, and examines the UK, Germany and Sweden…

Likewise, I’m sure some of our experiences here in Australia, not to mention the UK, Canada, NZ, South Africa, France, Finland, Germany, etc. etc. are all valuable and interesting. Interesting but he’s probably wrong again, like his polls.

In the last few weeks of the campaign Labor and the Greens, so certain of success told the public all the horrible things they were going to do to the people of Australia. Rob pensioners, rob self funded retirees, rob shareholders, trust funds, force house prices down, force everyone to buy electric cars, shut down our biggest exports and send tens of billions of our cash overseas for nothing and put windmills on Manly beach. And there was nothing the people of Australia could do about it. Albanese even said “If you don’t like us don’t vote for us”.

Who needs polling to know this damaged their chances? Especially in aspirational job poor Queensland.

Now Albanese, very far to the left of his nemesis Bill Shorten wants to lead the Labor party and push the same agenda?

Who needs polls to know this hard left politician and friend of anti semitic communist Jeremy Corbyn is completely unsuitable.
As warmist commentator Alan Kohler wrote, they should say nothing or if pressed, lie. Corbyn is the only thing which kept the Tories in
power with useless Teresa May leading from behind.

That was the real problem with Labor and the modern Turnbull/Mark Textor philosophy of the rusted on voter and the drive for the upper middle class public servant Green vote. It’s not true. All Morrison had to do was project a reassuring steady vision and Labor self destructed. The faith in polls was the problem and as for exit polls, it was the clearly cocky Labor and Green voters who were happy to answer questions as the exit polls were nonsense.

E G, That is an interesting interview.

Consider, 1 the polls were bloody wrong all along…. 2 : Liberal backbenchers last year acted to dump Turnbull because of the polls. 3 : Morrison became the leader & Pm in the wash-up from the dumping of Turnbull 4: Now there is a re-elected Coalition government with a PM who wants lower power prices and is not convinced that renewables can do that – unlike Turnbull..

Al in all that’s fortuitously a pretty good outcome..

And now Shorten is gone as well..

      Ummmmmm !

      What’s to complain about ?

The vagaries of the AEMO electricity wholesale pricing system.
In Vic on May 22, average price $113/MWhr, on May 23 $87/MWhr. And in SA, daily price dropped from $111 to $57/MWhr.
With Vic demand about 5,000 MW, that means generators in Vic shared an extra $3 million for the day because someone bid some higher prices. Seems to be that on the low price day the wind was blowing, so there was less gas used in SA and Vic.

not all about CAGW, but plenty of it nonetheless.

Lord Adair Turner begins with the most aggressive CAGW nonsense imaginable – by 2050, zero carbon economy and we wouldn’t even notice the cost it had taken to get there.
second up is Geoff Mulgan – check out his Wikipedia page. also note: Demos was founded in 1993 by former Marxism Today editor Martin Jacques, and Geoff Mulgan, who became its first director. talks about “collective intelligence” etc.

Here’s how the European Union wastes public money on an unbelievable scale:
It has put forward its future budgetary plans, which include spending a quarter of its entire finances on ‘tackling climate change.’
Under the new proposals, covering the period between 2021 and 2027, a total of €320 billion will be spent on climate adaptation and mitigation, an increase of €114 billion.
The European Commission’s President, Jean-Claude Juncker, said the plan was “an important moment for our Union. The new budget is an opportunity to shape our future as a new, ambitious Union of 27 bound together by solidarity.”
Under the current budget, €206 billion is already being spent out to 2020 on combating climate change through investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental protection, and other carbon reduction schemes. This represents 20 percent of the budget, and so the draft proposal represents an overall increase of 5 percent.
Earlier this year, French President Emmanuel Macron floated the idea that 40 percent of the EU’s budget should be spent on making the transition to a low-carbon economy, commenting the amount “would allow for this transition to be ambitious rather than measured, as it is today.”
Environmental groups were also quick to point out a higher figure was needed to meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement.
Markus Trilling, policy coordinator at the CAN Europe said that “it is a good sign that the European Commission considers increasing the share of the future budget dedicated to climate action”, but that so far “the green potential of the EU budget has regrettably been untapped.”
“To bring European economies closer to the Paris Agreement, the post-2020 EU budget must spend at least 40 percent on the decarbonisation of energy, industry and mobility systems, and ensure not one cent will benefit fossil fuel-related activities and infrastructure.
Roland Joebstl, a policy officer at the European Environmental Bureau, said the plan should also be more “Paris-compatible”.
“An increase of climate spending does not fix a budget that, overall, still fails to be carbon neutral.”
The budget will now go to the European Parliament and Council for final approval where revisions could be made to the level of climate ambition.
All that public money which could be spent on society’s real needs is going to be wasted – because these clowns think that they’re going to be able to change the world’s climate – laughable.
    It’s a disgrace, nothing less.
