There’s a new “climate activist non-party party” in Australia

Suddenly there’s a whole lot of independent candidates running in Australia looking to copy the Kerryn Phelps success in taking the blue-ribbon conservative seat of Wentworth. They all say they are independent, but they are all sworn to climate action and GetUp supports most if not all of them. So if and when they say they’ll support a Liberal National Coalition government, ask yourself if GetUp is being fooled, or are Australian voters?

New party is born, Abbott says, as go-it-alone candidates join forces:

Brad Norington and Alice Workman, The Australian

“If they band together to promote their cause, they’ve effectively created a new political party,” Mr Abbott said.

“It’s a climate change party — it’s essentially a small-‘g’ green party. But because in seats like these the Greens would not get elected, they’re pretending to be something else in the hope of removing Coalition members of parliament.”

“It’s absolutely crystal clear in this electorate: vote Steggall, get Shorten. And around the country: vote independent, get Labor,” he said. “All of their protestations to the contrary are bunkum, absolutely bollocks, and the fact that GetUp is supporting nearly all of them, I think, further demonstrates the point.”

Mr Abbott said the group was “plainly targeting Liberal members of parliament” and wanted to see “Labor-Green governments”. Mr Wilkie and Mr Oakeshott had “form” in supporting the Gillard government.

The team who aren’t a party (so they keep saying) are helped by journalist Margo Kingston, who writes at NoFibs.

The 15 independents have banded together with a new advert. (Which you can see at Their ABC. Does our national broadcaster show the other parties ads too I wonder?).

Independents can turn elections. In 2010, Tony Abbott would have won the election instead of Julia Gillard and the Labor party if Rob Oakshott and Tony Windsor had chosen to vote with the predominant political choices of their electorates and the parties they used to represent.

Skeptical MP’s are being targeted. You may have no urge to support any political party, but you can make a difference to the few MPs who’ve been brave enough to stand up to the Renewables Religion. They need all the help they can get.

On a slightly different note, the other day Kerryn Phelps crying out racism as someone was suggesting that she was ineligible for parliament because she was an Israeli citizen or eligible to be one. She’s reported that to the AFP. How can that be considered racism?

It’s easy for her, bemused. She’s a pollie, so her words mean what she wants them to mean, and there’s no need for current usage, let alone dictionary definitions. And the word is an attractant to green-biased reporters, giving coverage.
      Very productive.
And it’s too late in the cycle for any complaint to become useful.
      Very clever.

Someone is also claiming ‘homophobic’ as well. Not sure if it is her or the shrill media.

Guess if you are going to make a complaint you may as well complaint about everything at once. Get it over and done with in one hit.

Is it the case that having converted to Judaism she becomes eligible for Israeli citizenship appears to be the premise of this dubious assertion?

What I would like to know is if climate change remedies such as reducing CO2 and using renewables actually stops climate change then how would we know that climate change has been reduced?

What they are afraid of is if we do no “remedies” and nothing bad happens, they will look like fools.
      Hence their desperation at times.

But in regards to the thread, how can anyone vote for a party whose sole platform is climate change, especially when it’s just a fly in?

From across the ditch I really enjoyed Sky News last night. First Peta Credlin and Rowan Dean really ripping into Shorten over his inability to give costings for his climate/energy policy. Dean, in particular, “threw Shorten to the wolves” in a couple of sentences based inarguable logic.

I did not see much of Andrew Bolt but he seemed to be raising the issue as well.

Then I saw Alan Jones doing a similar demolition job ( together with Peta Credlin). If he follows up on his radio show then it would seem CC/energy policy will be the top policy argument for your elections, if it is not already there.

Did early voting yesterday, above the line every box and put the climate change party way down with the rest of the anti human mob.

Had a funny interaction with the Greens htv people out front and was called a fascist lol, I then pointed out how their policies and ideals align with fascism more than any politics on the planet.

I voted early as well and the only person that approached me was a Nationals member with their how to vote flyer. I guess my dress and appearance told the Greens etc to stay away. 🙂

Also voted early, just walked past them with my hands in my pockets and a “get lost” look on my face.

Where I go to vote a small country school with a low fence the spruikers have to remain outside the fence and congregate in numbers around the one entrance .
I just step over the fence and walk to the front door from the side so no hassles

Honestly, I can’t see why the polling booths don’t just have the voting flyers attached to the booths and so do away with the incredible waste generated by flyer printing and more so the annoyance of party hucksters at polling entrances. I believe that this was suggested at one point in time and was rejected by ministers or whatever. Pity this idea isn’t resurrected.

Having stood in the sun the entire day wearing a colour coded t-shirt on many previous occasions I am of the strong belief that you are standing there to prove your tribe is strong enough to have people standing there all day.

“We are a REAL party. We have supporters.”

The amusing thing is that by the time you get to mid afternoon you generally bond to some extent with the other tribes, partly because there is nothing else to do and partly because you are sharing the experience of being glared at by members of the public for the last 6 hours. What you generally find is that most people there also believe this is all for show and any voter who has no yet, after 6 weeks of campaigning and 3 years of government, decided who they are going to vote for probably isn’t engaged enough to vote in the first place.

It’s not like trying to pick a paint colour and being torn between the subtle differences between the white, the off white, the ivory and the bone. The major parties are very clear in their differences. If you have failed to notice that then maybe voting is not for you.

                What he said.

If minor parties had someone at every polling booth handing out flyers with a smile, they would get more votes. How many Liberal voters might be tempted at the last minute to put a smaller party above the Libs — and yet still vote Liberal?

What got me was how the HTV Greens behaved towards a private citizen, I had already voted and took a phone call outside, after I finished one of them thought I was going in and that’s when then discussion occurred, all I said was I’d already voted and put Greens dead last then the Labor bloke laughed so I added don’t laugh you lot were second last.

The pleasantries declined quickly from there and not once did I swear or raise my voice but the Greens bloke just cut loose with insults and an attempted eco-lecture.

I remember that admission very well Dennis.

So much so that I included it in the little quiz for Mickey that he failed here yesterday:

      Her precise words were:

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,………This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

I’m not surprised that the likes of Mickey boy and his fascist comrades want to ignore it. The cat’s out of the bag – and it is a Commo (which is Australian for the American Commi).

The Labor and Green supporters masquerading as independents has been taking place for many years and Oakeshott and Windsor were NSW State MLAs campaigning successfully as former National Party people in electorates where Labor and Green could not succeed with candidates using those political brands. The NSW “independents” were looked after via now in prison former Labor Minister Obeid. In other words NSW Labor supported the “independents” like they were Labor’s candidates.

When the two moved into federal seats, Oakeshott in 2008 at a by election, they were recruited by the Rudd Labor Government, the decision to support Labor in 2010 was already decided before the mock negotiations were conducted with the Coalition. Windsor’s cousin Hawker was PM Rudd’s chief spin doctor.

you can have partisan agreement on a particular issue, although uncommon since Tony Abbott, the most recent example would be our policy on boat arrivals.
That is not enough to call such an amalgamation a party, if it was, then Labor and the LNP would also be called a party, which would make us more like China than anyone would be really comfortable with.

There seems to be a considerable amount of comment that has been “disappeared” which has the effect of putting comments 16 and 17 sitting on this thread looking out of context.

The comments related to the continued presence on the blog of a poster who has done nothing but offer insult to the blog and those posting on it.

On a casual read his posts may seem bland but they are numerous and content free.

A number of people have taken exception to this and tried, through channels, to have someone look at the situation.

Nothing, and so ridicule was used to highlight comments that were in all aspects, Irrelevant and inspired by some unknown motivational force.

Several threads back the weight of opinion about this situation was expressed in a most unusual manner by those using the site.

If my memory serves correctly on that one thread there were at least three of His “comments” that received over 30, yes thirty, Red ticks Each.

It seemed that a lot of blog contributors were keen to have their opinions noted, but were apparently ignored and what seems like intentionally disruptive comments continue.

Fitzroy, a thumbs up. Yes. David W explains why.

The lack of media and school competition here means there is a quasi state monopoly on many topics, climate change being a star example.

Possibly the most sinister thing is that, unlike China, people in Australia think they have free speech, and they think there are non-government schools, when really there are a just different flavours of the same thing.

Colorado just did this with great art. The new Governor is a 100% renewables loon and the Democrats just won both houses. Electric power is governed by the 3-person Public Utilities Commission, which the law says must include people from different parties, which here in 2 party world means Democrats and Republicans. But the Dems artfully chose a 3rd member who belonged to he “no affiliation” party. I am not making this up. He is of course a green , actually more so then the Dem members.

Independents can greener than Greens because they are too radical to join a party.

Spot-on David. And Aussies seem much more willing to go with the flow and not question so-called “conventional wisdom” than their US counterparts. Maybe something to do with the 25 years (last 2 generations) since the last recession as well as the strong socialist mindset. People tend to think this joint is on autopilot and will stay the course regardless of our best efforts to derail it. There also seems to be a much stronger craving among Aussies to be socially acceptable (let’s call it “fashionable”) than I guess there is in the broader US society.

The difficulty here (as Peter Fitzroy 🙂 noted) is that there is little choice.

I often wonder how an anti-climate change party would fare. A party filled with knowledgeable people who have a sensible persona and an economic policy that meets the needs – unlike the Palmer UAP and the Hanson One Nation aberrations.

You’ve got that right David. The Australian populace is infatuated with the renewable agenda. The infatuation is throughout the media; across all levels of federal, state and local public service; and the subject of discussion over lattes everywhere. There are very few people in Australia who realize the importance of smelters, machine shops, plastics fabricators, production facilities, mining, transportation, glass manufacturing, 24 hour hospilization and police services, HVAC, refrigeration, etc., and their need for reliable electricity, to the well being and growth of an economy. There’s a reckoning coming. Labor or Liberal: it doesn’t matter. Both are going in the same direction. Crash now or crash later. The renewables experiment will become very apparent to the little Aussie battler one way or another.

Christiana Figueres led the UN’s global negotiating process that culminated in the 2015 Paris climate change agreement, and is now a climate leader at the World Bank.”

2015, Figueres: First time the world economy is transformed intentionally

“This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model, for the first time in human history”, Ms Figueres stated at a press conference in Brussels.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution.

You know with all the SorosBots standing, campaigning & chucking their eggs around; one would have to wonder if there has been any consulting input for the online voting/ digital voting from Brenda Snipes & Co.

If the vote rigging that was a huge factor in the US 2018 Mid Terms with Algos as well as mystery ballots; this will be an election won by the Banks.

Never lose sight of the fact that they could not run a Census a short while ago & it would be a fair bet that the “consultants” have been tweaking all sorts of stuff ever since.

Lost ballots is a steadily increasing possibility when there’s three weeks of secure storage to manage.

Here is another Indie better described as a green.
Yesterday on car radio pm drive time the ABC presenter had Anthony Pesec live. He is running as an Indie for Senate in Canberra. ABC presenter persisted and got him agreeing he has taken $15,000 campaign funds from Alex Turnbull.
Pesec’s letterbox adverts hardly mention his renewables affiliations.
Every Fed election the Greens beat up their chances of grabbing the 2nd Canberra Senate seat from Zed Seselja . Labor get the #1 seat. So far Zed survives OK – in 2016 he got 0.9964 of a quota compared to the Greens 0.4829 quota.
I think the hope of rolling Zed Seselja is behind Alex Turnbulls throwing $15K at “Indie” candidate Anthony Pesec.

As of late, I have been receiving a few of them “Vote for Science Party” advertisements on Youtube (especially whilst watching material such as that of Adapt2030’s)—is the “Science Party” the supposed new independent party? Might very well be so.

Evidently, they are every bit as cretinous as the Greenies…if not even more so! They advocate for “helping the environment and tackling climate change”, whilst supporting the “building of extra housing” all the same; urban elitist blighters, quite plainly.

What concerns me the most, however, is their dastardly proposal to “build an all-new futuristic city alongside a new railway line between Sydney and Canberra”—with not even an ounce of respect to our spectacular scenery amidst that corridor, as well as farmland (I live not too far from that corridor—in Anglers Reach, NSW 2629).

    [snip]

Much to my fortune, the Snowy Monaro Shire often scorns the greenie codswallop.

[Adaminaby. No more jokes like that OK? No Thanks. No way. – Jo]

Yeah, comments held in moderation for some inexplicable reason.

Let us look at the situation realistically, this is not an old men’s shed, its climate science 101 and we need a debate.

Punctuation! Who can take you seriously if you cannot punctuate?! (Skeptical MP’s are being targeted) PS – you don’t seem to have many women in your commenting fan base. Unless a Tampa sails in, I’ll be looking forward to see what gems you post 19 May.

Delighted to hear you’ll be reading. Thanks for the proof reading. Feel free to argue with evidence instead of grammar anytime you feel up to it. 🙂

      Rebecca,

If you’re making an argument that the number of women who comment should approximate the number of men then I will remind you that no one is forced to read or comment here, man or woman and no one is prevented from doing the same either. This is the most open forum I’ve ever seen as far as who’s welcome. So what you see is the result of completely free choice and to me that’s a good thing.

As your hostess said, you’re welcome here. But you imply that something is seriously wrong and I’m curious, what exactly is wrong in your opinion?

Far from improving democracy, the multivote ballot seems more like a suicide note.
