Climate scare machine — happy to use people with a mental illness as a promotional tool:

So some people have a mental illness. Unbridled, baseless Climate-Panic makes that worse. Now those victims are advertising material:

Climate Despair is making people give up on life

Mike Pearl, Vice.

There’s nothing like a bit of unprecedented misery made possible by unprecedented history denial:

“This is painful,” [Renee] Lertzman said. “It’s super painful to be a human being right now at this point in history.”

We live longer than ever, are richer than ever, fly all over the world, and one of our biggest fears is losing our mobile phone. This article is wholly so far gone past the Rubicon that it makes Michael Mann look sensible. Seriously, by reviewing apocalyptic books and stories from mental health wards, the man who brought hockey-stick hype to the world  appears to be the most normal person in the room.

This article is doing its best to normalize climate-depressive-obsession.

Step 1: pick one graphic tale

Suddenly, she was contemplating self-harm. “Though I don’t think I would have hurt myself, I didn’t know how to live with the fear of… the apocalypse, I guess? My son was home with me and I had to call my friend over to watch him because I couldn’t even look at him without breaking down,” Ruttan Walker said. She eventually checked herself into an overnight mental health facility.

Step 2: do a sweeping generalization

Her case is extreme, but many people are suffering from what could be called “climate despair,” a sense that climate change is an unstoppable force that will render humanity extinct…

People are suffering from climate despair. Journalists are suffering from a lack of any supporting data, too. Coincidence?

Total supporting observations here: one group letter from Swedish psychologists, a teenage girl, plus a grab bag of anecdotes with no evidence to suggest that their mental illness was due to “climate” change.

Most of the article is  just mere speculation, the rest is worse:

This despair could be a consequence of climate change being on more people’s minds than ever before.

No kidding. Probably due to stories like this one.

The article helps readers find the most bleak of bleak books, like The Uninhabitable Earth, or worse:

But nothing compares to the intense viral bleakness of Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy, by Cumbria University professor Jem Bendell, a 2018 paper that Bendell self-published after an academic journal declined to publish it. The paper argues that total societal collapse is on its way, and describes life in the midst of that collapse with vivid sentences like, “You will fear being violently killed before starving to death.” The paper was so powerful that people have credited it for sending them to therapy or quitting their jobs to live closer to nature.

Then author MikePearl manages the impossible — makes Michael Mann look sensible

Nice advertising for Michael Mann as well as the Religion.:

These feelings can be powerful, but they aren’t grounded in hard science. [You mean like Michael Mann is?]

Michael Mann, the Penn State climatologist often credited for helping bring the public’s attention to the historical trends that are central to our understanding of climate change, calls this perspective “doomism,” and he wanted to make it clear the evidence doesn’t support it. “Unfortunately there’s some bad science behind much of the ‘doomism,'” he said. “There is no need to exaggerate or misstate what the science has to say.”

No need indeed, except when you need to hide a decline and bury the last 40 years of tree ring data.

When you need a heart surgeon get a heart surgeon, but when you need a therapist, find a believer:

For these patients, one important first step seems to be simply finding a therapist who acknowledges upfront that climate change isn’t a manifestation of mental illness.

According to Ruttan Walker, the activist who had the crisis in 2015, the perfect therapist would recognize that yes, mental illness is the problem at hand, but would simultaneously recognize the “enormity of the climate crisis.”

They might give you handy clues like this:

… there’s another, much older and simpler way to process despair. Give into it for a moment. Cry it out. Let yourself acknowledge how fucking bad it all is, and how a lot of it is never, ever getting better. In short: grieve.

If they asked people with a proven track record of being immune from climate despair — they’d ask a skeptic. Jo Nova recommends reading real history books as a way of feeling jubilantly thrilled for being born during a non-event non-crisis with decades of what was actually pretty good weather.

Failing that, read a skeptic blog!

    Uff da!

What becomes of people that are so off the rails?
Twenty years out, do they simply meld back into the general population? When the crisis of the year fails to arrive, do they move to a new one?

One interesting thing is that some of the 15 year olds of today will be around in 2100 to comment on their mental health in 2019. Wish I could listen.

I really wonder why in today’s world there are so many people with mental illness.

We live in possibly the best of times in all of history, where today’s poor would be considered yesterday’s wealthy. Yet people now seem to suffer mentally and rather than physically, as they did previously.

And it’s not just climate change mental illness, but all manner of issues that people never even imagined previously. Does lack of real physical hardship contribute to dissatisfaction with life and thus leads to mental illness?

I think it is mainly a total lack of a real education. An education that makes people actually think for themselves rather than taking anything said by someone in apparent authority as gospel.

Indeed, when someone without the ability to think for oneself is told that they “have a mental illness” (or should have one), then that is exactly what they have because they have been conditioned to believe it, unconditionally.

This condition isn’t caused by “Climate Change™” but a lack of resilience, which has never been taught nor practiced.

If the “trigger” is not “Climate Change™”, it will be something else (whatever the next “Catastrofad™” happens to be).

If inflicting propaganda upon the most vulnerable of society makes them take thier own lives, surely thats a form of eugenics at work?

At a minimum, it appears to be a form of abuse….

In fact, it seems the propagandaists appear to target women deliberately, as women seem more inclined to want to do the right thing, especially within a community setting of “doing their bit”. So if soft selling the drip-drip-drip of climate propaganda to influence women ( and through them, wider society ) its actually a broader form of abuse, but it falls much heavier on women.

I wonder if we took that concept to a few rabid lefties and presented it , how they would react? I suspect just as the Bolsheviks slaughtered the Romanov family ( which included women ) they would likely laugh it off….the Cause, Comrade…the Cause….

I put the blame on drugs.
Legal drugs, illegal drugs, prescribed drugs, recreational drugs, all of them.
I’ll be the first to admit that many prescribed drugs, especially when they are prescribed appropriately, have more benefits than the opposite.
However, there surely is not a time in history when the use of drugs has been less prevalent. Perhaps in some cultures, where hullucinogens were common, but then in that situation life was harsh, brutal, and short.

I really wonder why in today’s world there are so many people with mental illness.

It may well have something to do with the fact that all the mental hospitals were closed down in the 80s and 90s. The inmates were put out into the community and supposedly treated with drugs to keep them functioning. The numbers in the community have continued to increase and none of them receive proper treatment.

Accordingly, they’re very vulnerable to manipulation. The green Marxists are particularly skilled at using the vulnerable as cannon fodder.

“I really wonder why in today’s world there are so many people with mental illness.”

Say’s law: the law of markets, states that “Supply creates its own demand”; in classical economics, that aggregate production necessarily precedes an equal quantity of aggregate demand.

So it is with mental illness. In the Age of the Selfie, matters that used to be handled by the parish priest or village witch-doctor have been taken over by entities determined to medicalize every aspect of human existence, such as psychologists/therapists/psychiatrists and the state, thereby neutering the function of old-time religion. How much easier life was when one could blame bad weather on witches instead of cranial synapses.

No accident, of course, that psychologists – such as Steffen Lewandowsky (Bristol) et al – are, together with the medical profession, both emphatic climate alarmists.

Alice’s Law: “Every profession strives to extend its sphere of influence unless acted on by an equal and opposite force, such as skepticism or lack of a marketing budget.”

BBC NEWS: (12 July, 2019) People Fixing the World: The school that puts well-being first

“On average, one in eight children in the UK has a mental health disorder – that’s about three children in every classroom. Yet there are just 4.5 psychiatrists for every 100,000 young people – that’s fewer than most other European countries. With the UK’s mental health provision for children so stretched, help often ends up coming from families and schools.

One school in London has actively taken up this challenge. Highgate Primary School has developed a unique system in which dozens of children can get one-to-one sessions with trainee therapists, while some struggling parents are also offered support. The school has redesigned its playground so children can find areas that fit their mood, and it has given over more time to activities such as gardening, cooking and drama.

This programme features some of the children that have benefited from these ideas.

It mostly a case of no context. If you’ve never been sad, how do you know when you’re happy?
Medicine is starting to acknowledge the lack of challenge to kids immune systems, could be playing a role in allergies.
Some people think the same thing might be happening with mental health.

Antoine D’A, sorry but I don’t agree with your second last sentence. IMO no one will get called to account – the perpetrators will just slink away because they haven’t got the guts to admit fault, and the MSM will deny complicity and airbrush the whole saga away and move on to the next topic de jour.
Unless, of course, Trump wins in a landslide in 2020, when he will have the national, if not global, support he needs to rip the perpetrators to shreds and dismantle the vast network of funders, supporters and fellow-travellers that have worked ceaselessly to undermine the West, including I hope the UNFCCC and all its tentacles. As far as I can see only a truly independent, powerful and single-minded person like president Trump can do this. Nigel Farage is doing the same thing with Brexit in the UK. They are both wealthy self-made men who believe in free enterprise and the freedom of the individual rather than the state. History goes in cycles, and I think (and hope) the West’s political pendulum has begun to swing to the right at last. I sincerely hope so, for the sake of my children and grandchildren.

I helped customers of mine with de-brainwashing a kid who was threatening suicide because climate change. Looks like she’ll be ok. They were determined to take legal action against the school that was the primary source of the abuse. The parents have the resources and the willpower to do it, and I will assist. I think they may still present the school with a private warning, followed by a very public one if they don’t respond appropriately. The school might try using the Nuremberg defence, but the way things are here in Queensland at the moment, they might wise up.
You can’t win this battle by lying down. That will simply continue the abuse.

Thanks for the info, Martin, but I am not surprised that impressionable young children are responding this way. A 5 yo relative of mine told me that seahorses were ‘going extinct’, even though at her age she can hardly understand such a concept. I tried to reason with her but she cried and said that her teacher told her so it must be true. I’m glad that I am well past having to deal with this sort of ugliness. I hate to think what problems it will cause young people later in life. As I say to people, I grew up in the UK during the Cold War with its REAL threat of nuclear war, but I and my peers were not bombarded with such hysteria, just sensible warnings and basic precautions from the government.

I just keep telling my child that the teachers have to tell them nonsense, because the govt puts climate nonsense in the curriculum, and they have to teach it by law. Its not the teachers fault. Teachers must be honoured.

Point out the teacher is the good guy, the govt is the root cause of the issue.

Could it be classified hypothetically as a form of ritualized, systemic, mental ab*se?

So ‘Climate Change™’ (aka Global Warming) is all predicated on the climate models projecting far into the future. Well the model are grossly wrong, and there is not a good method of finding out how wrong regardless of what Hansen, Mann, or any other alarmist says …

True, BUT it still presents GHG warming of some degree. The equations he produces albeit from the ‘climate (fake) models’ are full of majic numbers and delta this and that with summation fractions that may or not have ant real physical meaning. The equation MAY be true mathematically BUT it doesnt represent the real geophysical atmosphere. Reminds me of astrophysical papers with VERY complex equations that are based on assumptions that are probably untrue (except to the authors).
The ASSUMPTIONS are usually the problem not the maths as such.

I agree with your points theRealUniverse,
but IMO the real point he makes is that the climate models are orders of magnitude out even if you take the modelers assumption as gospel.
I also think he has a point when he confronts modeler who are referring the paper, and he shows them their basic understanding of what the graph portray.
Around 37:30minutes he says something like

“…every single climate modeler review was incompetent. And by incompetent I mean they made mistakes that were typical of naive undergraduate freshmen — for example (to a man it could have been to a women, whoever) they don’t either, neither, respect nor understand the difference between precision and accuracy. They don’t understand propagated error, and they think that those error bars that I showed you, these error bars, [pointing to graphs on the screen with error bars on them] mean that the climate itself, the model, is oscillating rapidly between a hothouse, no hothouse and icehouse climate. When in fact they don’t mean anything like that, and they don’t understand the distinction between an actual energetic perturbation and an error statistic. So they see that -/+ 4Watts per square meter of error as a perturbation on the model. Which it is not. So they make these really basic mistakes … “

So effectively he show that the scientific method is very broken as the peer-reviewers are much less competent than the person submitting the paper. How can science move forward with such and ídiotic regime?

      I agree…it really is criminal.

If governments around the world weren’t totally captured by the hocus pocus due to a toxic mix of laziness..lack of intellectual rigor…lust for the ultimate power and terminal gutlessness…then…commonsense and some real inquiries instead of the brazenly sham inquiries the UK governments in particular along with others…have insulted the world with…would have pushed the witchdoctors back in their box before they had the chance to screw with the minds of the world’s children and vulnerable people.

I wouldn’t hold my breath but it looks as though Mann might be seeing a reckoning on the horizon…and may be trying to buy some cover.

Western ‘scientists’ who flogged this scam have heard ad nauseam …in each of their countries…their respective government dupes buy their own personal insurance by saying ‘we believe the science/scientists’…and therefore should be on notice that there’s no hiding place for those scientists themselves.

ABSOLUTE PROOF OF THE CLIMATE SCAM
    An article..

“By now, anybody who follows “climate” news knows that “global warming” has been what the alarmist’s call the “pause” for 18 years and counting, despite ongoing increases in CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere.

Today’s CO2 concentrations worldwide average about 380 parts per million. This level of CO2 concentration is trivial compared with the concentrations during earlier geologic periods.
460 million years ago, during the Ordovician Period, CO2 concentrations were 4,400 ppm, and temperatures then were about the same as they are today. With such high levels of CO2, the Earth should have been boiling.”
Contrary to the oft-repeated mantra of the media and the so-called “experts” that today’s CO2 concentrations are unprecedented, our current geologic period, the Quaternary, has seen the lowest average levels of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s long history.”

SLAM DUNK PROOF! There is no absolutely no,zero, argument that CO2 does anything.

To agree with the cooling hypothesis, how much of of the science in the global warming hypothesis do you have to discard?

        111

        • #
          el gordo

The so called hiatus in world temperatures, two decades where CO2 has risen alarmingly, suggests the AGW hypothesis is badly flawed. So we can say that CO2 is not a temperature control knob.

That is to say this minute trace gas is not a pollutant to be demonised. So all the climate science written over the past thirty years is highly suspect if it mentions global warming or human induced climate change.

Can you give me an example of a contemporary AGW signal in our part of the world? I’ll counter with a natural cooling signal, like the glacial advance in the NZ alps.

          120

          • #
            Peter Fitzroy

I do not see that hiatus, El G. What I do see is a series of El Nino events with ’97 being a massive one. if the hiatus was true, you should be able to use the 2000 year as your start point and see the exact same slope. The fact that if you did that you would see the underlying warming trend, invalidates the hiatus argument.

The good thing about NZ is distance from pretty much anywhere and I believe may survice a northern hemisphere limited nuclear war, much better than somewhere north of the equator. Exactly.

It may be another hundred years or several, but eventually the next Big freeze will appear with absolutely no preparation from government.

Already northern countries have been experiencing more ice and snow as a warm-up for the big one and when it arrives permanently whole nations will need to move towards the equator.

There is absolutely no planning for this and there’s no way those displaced on northern continental USA are going to all fit on Hawaii.

American billionaire Peter Thiel visited New Zealand four times before the government granted him citizenship… Mr Thiel, 49, who co-founded Paypal and was one of the first investors in Facebook, has since bought and sold properties here, including a house in Auckland and a multi-million-dollar lakefront estate in Wanaka.

“Mr Thiel sank millions of dollars into New Zealand companies, including accounting software start-up Xero, before and after he was granted citizenship. That included $15m he put into a partnership between his New Zealand-based company, Valar Ventures, and the New Zealand Venture Investment Fund, which was finalised in December 2011 – a few months after he gained citizenship – and publicly announced in March 2012.

There is ZERO reason for NOT using coal, especially with modern HELE power systems.

There is ZERO reason FOR using wind and solar, they are erratic, require large subsidies to exist, and take away from the supply system stability, adding greatly to electricity costs. They have ZERO BENEFIT except in a few niche places where the grid cannot reach economically.

Look Peter, the main effect by mankind is in the big cities.
As modern humans we gather/concentrate energy in such places
And release/burn it in those places.
We also replace fields of grass and forests of trees
With concrete & brick buildings which absorb the energy from light and then radiate it back later
It’s called Urban Heat Island Effect.
Is this a ‘global’ CO2 caused warming or climate crisis ?
        Putting it very bluntly :
        NO, NO, NO NO

‘ … mankind is having an effect, and we have no idea what the ultimate end point might be.’

Humanity has no effect over climate change and we also know the Holocene interglacial has reached its use by date. Any little bit of warming would be helpful but I’m more than happy with CO2 as fertiliser, requiring coal fired power stations.

‘About 12% of people are affected by an anxiety disorder in a given year and up to 30% are affected at some point in their life. They occur about twice as often in women than they do in men, and generally begin before the age of 25.” (Wikipedia)

This maybe accompanied by panic attacks, I’ll search for a cure.

As you should be well aware, there is absolutely ZERO EVIDENCE that there is anything apart from this HIGHLY BENEFICIAL outcome.

“it is childish in the extreme to deny that we are major drivers of the climate, be it UHI, CO2, pollution of all types”

It is absolutely IDIOTIC to think that CO2 is a pollutant of any sort, or that mankind has ANY affect on the GLOBAL climate.

UHI is real, but is only 1% of the planet, it just gets smeared everywhere when calculating the farcical “Global Surface Temperature”

Real pollutants have been drastically reduced in modern society because of technological advances.

    Misleading the Australian Public!!!!
I have just read in the Sydney Daily Telegraph breaking News segment that Australia’s
Climate Authority wants input on emissions. The AAP article reproduced in full below refers to the Climate Change Authority which was abolished in 2014. Was this article deliberately misleading? I would say so because the journalist fudges the heading to refer to Climate Change Agency then segueys into Climate Change Authority.Supposedly this now defunct body is calling for public comment. No contact is provided. Lo and behold, I find that through a search to the Australian Climate Council, a group of activists with no official role in government, is seeking input on emissions but obviously only from those committed to climate alarmism and zero net emmissions. Read below

    “Rebecca Gredley, Australian Associated Press
    July 11, 2019 2:39pm
Australia’s climate change agency wants your opinion on how the Morrison government should meet its emissions reduction goals.

The Climate Change Authority is updating its advice to the federal government in light of a “stronger understanding” that Australia must do more to meet its Paris targets.

People have until August 23 to lodge their submissions.

The authority will then craft policies for Australia to meet its Paris agreement targets, which centre on reducing emissions by 26 to 28 per cent on 2005 levels by 2030.

But the CCA is also looking past 2030, when it says Australia should be “clearly and firmly” on the path towards net zero emissions.

The consultation paper also notes that emissions have been rising in Australia and abroad, suggesting new advice is necessary as climate science has improved.

Topics the CCA is particularly interested in include barriers to achieving emissions reduction and the role international carry-over credits should play in achieving goals.

The Morrison government plans to use credits from achieving its Kyoto emissions reduction targets towards the Paris goals.

Environmental groups have fiercely resisted the strategy.

The CCA also wants to know how the government can take advantage of the global transition to net zero emissions, and how monetary policy can help the economy transition.

The authority will provide updated advice to the government by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor has reportedly not yet called a meeting to discuss policy with his state and territory counterparts.

Greens energy spokesman Adam Bandt says it’s proof the government doesn’t care about climate action.

“How many people will die from heatwaves, bushfires and cyclones before this government realises we need to reduce pollution,” he said on Thursday.

“When you need a heart surgeon get a heart surgeon”

Heart Surgeon: I am an expert and know all about “the science” of the heart.

I got two of my Heart Surgeon mates around a bottle of very expensive plonk (peer-reviewed, scientific consenus) and we all agreed that your problem is the heart itself.

When I say “all agreed”, I mean 97%. Bob was about 3% unsure, if you ignore the error bars.

And I say “Heart Surgeon”. I mean, one is a Heart Surgeon. Well, a vet actually. Not trained in surgery but does assure me that most animals do in fact have hearts. Read all about it in a well-respected medical journal.

The other is a Proctologist, well kind of anyway. That’s what his business card says. Let’s just say he “deals” in the general area.

Anyways. Unimportant detail. The problem is the heart. Definitely, it’s beyond debate. We must remove it now, for the good of the body.

I know it sounds preposterous, but we’re “experts”, yeah?

    BTW, what’s your Medicare Number?

This scare mongering reminds me of when I was a kid how we were told of the ‘nuclear winter’ scenario, even remember being shown scary movies about nuclear war, made by England then, showing nuclear blasts over London. Pretty scary for primary kids. There was a real fear of nuclear war in the middle of the last cold war. This climate scare scam seems to be a replacement hobgoblin.

The comparison here is not completely fair.

The science of dying horribly in a nuclear strike is, unfortunately, very well understood. If you are caught within the blast radii of a nuclear explosion you will die.

The existence of nuclear weapons is objectively true.

The ability to deliver nuclear weapons is perhaps a bit more subjective, but only a bit.

Nuclear war was, and, let’s not kid ourselves here, still is real. The means to nuke someone exist. the opportunity to nuke someone exists. Fortunately the motive does not.

Climate Change? Compared to being nuked? Seriously? Not even the same page.

What incredible arrogance and self indulgent nonsense. As if you can choose your gender, your species, your time of life?

So what would this person like to be, a wombat? When, say in Victorian England in the 1860s without the vote, without electronics, without antibiotics where maternal mortality was 30% and infant mortality 50% in the first year? Where no one had holidays, no one was paid and the knife and fork were a novelty?

I was reading about painter Vincent Van Gogh who had ten teeth taken out, in the world before dentistry. About Claude Monet whose eyes went yellow and cloudy with cataracts and could only paint by the labels on the tubes. Families often had more than ten children but few survived to adulthood.

Painful to be a human being right now? It’s is the best time in human history to be alive, especially in Western Democracies as young people roam around with no jobs looking for something to be cross about and protest. You even get able people on street corners and intersections sipping expensive soft drinks and smoking while begging for cash above their government income. Water is not good enough for your modern beggar.

As for the Climate Crisis, homo sapiens have survived the terrible ice age of only 11,000 years ago when ice a kilometer thick covered much of Europe and the Americas down to 40 degree. Now we are worried about vanishing ice and species extinction? It beggars belief.

My point. The fatality rate was 30%! 7 days after childbirth. Septic infection from the fact that no one washed. Blood loss was the other, without transfusions which were invented in WW1. It’s hard to imagine such rolling tragedies. It is why the children’s stories were about the wicked step mother.
Most people had a step mother and the cities were full of orphanages. There was no single mothers supporting pension either. Twelve children no husband was as common as twelve children and no mother.

Why would anyone want to go back in time to such misery, but that is because people have no idea that you could not turn a tap and get hot water.

I find this sort of piggy backing guilt somewhat disturbing.

They found a woman who considered self harm and – leap of logic – Climate Change is Bad!

Sorry, but to be completely honest here I have seen enough half naked women to know what self harm scars look like. It is, for reasons I cannot begin to understand, common. I have even dated some women with scars who cannot even explain why they do it, and remember talking about it with another woman who confessed she only cut her upper thighs because she didn’t want her Mum to discover it and get upset.

Some people self harm. Why? I don’t know. Many of them don’t even seem to know. I don’t have stats but would go as far as to say it is seriously underreported within the population. Personally I find it disturbing and worrying and occasionally makes me question my role in life as a supportive friend to others.

At what point will Global Warming be over?

Global warming has been in decline worldwide since 2007:

I has been gradually replaced by climate change:

Climate changed rose to stardom around 2010 but has continued a resurgence in the past few years.

Both global warming and climate change are synonyms for burning fossil fuel and my guess is that that will continue for a hundred years or more. There is still not economic alternative to fossil fuel in most applications; maybe fission for electricity generation. But one day there will inevitably be economic alternatives; hopefully at a lower cost. I am hopeful fusion will provide industrial power and solar will supply more dispersed, less intense power.

As I’ve said before, maybe the whole climate beat-up is an op to distract us from the real problem, which is not due in the short term or the long term, but in the medium term. According to the science which needs no inverted commas, this problematic time has to come round. Is the long-known cycle being hidden in plain sight?

    Ted Hughes gave an inkling…

    October is marigold, and yet
A glass half full of wine left out

To the dark heaven all night, by dawn
    Has dreamed a premonition

Of ice across its eye as if
The ice-age had begun its heave.

    The lawn overtrodden and strewn
From the night before, and the whistling green

    Shrubbery are doomed. Ice
Has got its spearhead into place.

    First a skin, delicately here
    Restraining a ripple from the air;

    Soon plate and river on pond and brook;
Then tons of chain and massive lock

To hold rivers. Then, sound by sight
    Will Mammoth and Sabre-tooth celebrate

Reunion while a fist of cold
Squeezes the fire at the core of the world,

Squeezes the fire at the core of the heart,
And now it is about to start.

I’m old enough to remember when popular music was fun and uplifting, if not a bit silly. But today’s young people grew up with gloomy, maybe violent music. When some young person drives by with their windows open and violent gangsta rap so-called “music” blaring, I have to shake my head.

It appears to me that government-ordained music (it really is, you know) tends to run the opposite of the attitude that is common at the time. I’m thinking first of all the classical music that was created during the Little Ice Age. To stay sane in the face of all the death and destruction, ordered and predictable music was what they played.

During the Great Depression, movies and radio became widely popular. Not all of them were fun and bouncy, but much of it was. Even during WWII I believe the government encouraged people to enjoy and play big band and jazz music because it ran counter to the military rules that people had to live by.

I never agreed with the emphasis on drugs and psychedelic in popular culture starting in the 1960s. By the 1970s, my old high school had removed the stall doors from the girls’ bathroom because smoking and drug use. Before I graduated high school, I could look at the ads for record clubs and recognized almost all the artists whose records were offered. Now, I haven’t a clue. I refuse to subject myself to the downgrading and depressing noise that passes for music these days.

Since the 1960s and 1970s, the environment has been cleaned up. Consider the fact that cars and trucks no longer spew clouds of smelly, black smoke. Rivers got cleaned up. Smoke stacks on power plants have scrubbers on them and emit water vapor (even though in the right light, a photo can make it look very dark and menacing).

You can eat as clean or as junky as you like. My grandmother’s favorite cafe put some lettuce out and called it a salad bar. Now there is much more variety to salad bars even in small towns.

You don’t have to live your life amongst bullies and thugs. Even a person making middle class wages can live in a non-scary neighborhood. But we fill our minds with so-called “entertainment” that serves only to teach naive people how to be a criminal, how to steal and kill and destroy, how to cheat your friends and neighbors and get away with it.

Well, I’m tired of it! I refuse to let all that doom and gloom fill my waking hours and make me afraid and sick.

I am a musician in my spare time. I play piano and sing with groups in my community and state. I accompany music students and play for stage shows. Just making real music with real instruments and real human singers is a novelty and a treat these days. Some of my musician friends and I call our rehearsal times “music therapy”. My faith is another uplifting factor in my life.

9 Jul: SocialistWorker: Strike to stop climate chaos
    by Sarah Bates
Millions of people are likely to walk out worldwide on 20 September to demand that governments act urgently on climate change and that bosses stop polluting our planet.
Student strikers have issued a challenge to workers—to walk out of their workplaces and take to the streets alongside them on the day.
“We can’t fight on our own—it’s not enough,” school striker Patrick told the Marxism Festival in London last Sunday (LINK)…

One worker at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) told Socialist Worker, “People are really enthusiastic about the strike and our younger PCS union reps are ready to walk out straight away.”
An electronic calendar invite was sent to thousands of Defra workers across Britain telling them about the climate strike…
Defra workers are also linking climate change to the issue of job security.
“We’ve drafted an open letter to our permanent secretary,” said the worker.
“It asks that the hundreds of workers hired on short-term Brexit contracts are put on permanent contracts to deal with the climate crisis.”
At one university, workers have agreed to strike on the day…

Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists are preparing for actions next week in five major cities.
People in Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds and London are getting ready to take to the streets.
“Summer Uprising” protests are due to begin from next Monday with XR groups planning on staging major disruptions in city centres. XR promises “civil disobedience, family friendly spaces, love and music and an object of significance at every site.”…

11 Jul: BrisbaneTimes: Police warn against vigilante reprisals during Brisbane blockade next week
      By Toby Crockford
Police have cautioned frustrated drivers against abusing or attacking climate change activists during the week-long Brisbane protests planned for next week.
After being met with a chorus of car horns on Thursday, the group planned to hold traffic up again every weekday next week during morning peak-hour…
Inspector Steve Collins said potential vigilante reprisals were included in police plans for managing the demonstrations…
“There is no offence as such in taking part in an unauthorised protest but offences may be committed in isolation to the actual march itself,” he said…
“Assessments were made in real time about what the best course of action would be and based on those assessments this morning, it was decided to not take any arrest action.”…

“We are constantly engaged with these groups. We have our negotiators talk to them and we have contacts within each group that we can talk to and we do our best to discourage them or come up with alternative plans,” Inspector Collins said…
Adani’s Galilee Basin mine re-emerged as a hot political issue throughout the federal election campaign…

VIDEO: 10 Jul: BBC: ‘Climategate’: 10 years on, what’s changed?
It’s almost 10 years since hackers stole thousands of emails and other documents from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit.
The scandal, known as “Climategate”, rocked the scientific world.
Sceptics picked up on a small number of emails that seemed to suggest scientists had been deliberately manipulating data to exaggerate evidence of climate change.
It wasn’t true, but what followed is thought to have shaped public opinion and could possibly have influenced the UN climate agreement that year.

Travis T. Jones – comment #12 – posted Michael Mann crying from a Mother Jones link.

just wanted to note the article is by David Corn of “Christopher Steel” notoriety:

8 Jul: MotherJones: It’s the End of the World as They Know It
The distinct burden of being a climate scientist
    Story by David Corn
    https://www.motherjones.com/environment/2019/07/weight-of-the-world-climate-change-scientist-grief/

following posted as a reminder how much disinfo was in Corn’s piece. It was the first MSM piece to write about the phony Clinton Russian dossier, tho without naming Steele, or naming ClintonDNC as the funders of the dossier. written, of course, before the 2016 election :

31 Oct 2016: MotherJones: A Veteran Spy Has Given the FBI Information Alleging a Russian Operation to Cultivate Donald Trump
Has the bureau investigated this material?
by David Corn, Washington, DC, Bureau Chief
On Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid upped the ante. He sent Comey a fiery letter saying the FBI chief may have broken the law and pointed to a potentially greater controversy: “In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government…The public has a right to know this information.”…

Last month, Yahoo News reported that US intelligence officials were probing the links between Page and senior Russian officials. (Page has called accusations against him “garbage.”) On Monday, NBC News reported that the FBI has mounted a preliminary inquiry into the foreign business ties of Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chief. But Reid’s recent note hinted at more than the Page or Manafort affairs. And a former senior intelligence officer for a Western country who specialized in Russian counterintelligence tells Mother Jones that in recent months he provided the bureau with memos, based on his recent interactions with Russian sources, contending the Russian government has for years tried to co-opt and assist Trump—and that the FBI requested more information from him…

But a senior US government official not involved in this case but familiar with the former spy tells Mother Jones that he has been a credible source with a proven record of providing reliable, sensitive, and important information to the US government…

In June, the former Western intelligence officer—who spent almost two decades on Russian intelligence matters and who now works with a US firm that gathers information on Russia for corporate clients—was assigned the task of researching Trump’s dealings in Russia and elsewhere, according to the former spy and his associates in this American firm. This was for an opposition research project originally financed by a Republican client critical of the celebrity mogul. (Before the former spy was retained, the project’s financing switched to a client allied with Democrats.) “It started off as a fairly general inquiry,” says the former spook, who asks not to be identified. But when he dug into Trump, he notes, he came across troubling information indicating connections between Trump and the Russian government. According to his sources, he says, “there was an established exchange of information between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin of mutual benefit.”…
The former spy says he concluded that the information he had collected on Trump was “sufficiently serious” to share with the FBI…
Mother Jones has reviewed that report and other memos this former spy wrote. The first memo, based on the former intelligence officer’s conversations with Russian sources, noted…
According to several national security experts, there is widespread concern in the US intelligence community that Russian intelligence, via hacks, is aiming to undermine the presidential election—to embarrass the United States and delegitimize its democratic elections. And the hacks appear to have been designed to benefit Trump…READ ON

It can only store power generated by power generators elsewhere.

They must be doing better than this bloke in Vic then

“We have 6.3kwh of panels and a Tesla battery not because we are green or trying to save or make money. We have found the battery seldom fills to 100% in the winter and we are still pulling from the grid through the day. The Republic of Victoria has seen fit to shut down it’s biggest power station to appease the ratbag greens. We can make it through a short blackout at night if we know about it and shut down the fridges.
When will government stop pandering to these idiots?

A number of institutional investors, including Sweden’s national pension funds, have started to divest from fossil fuel companies due to the risk their assets will become stranded as the cost of renewable energy falls…

Trump’s position on climate change is due a rethink
by Gillian Tett, Financial Times – 11 Jul 2019

CarbonBrief re the above: The FT columnist examines how investors and CEOs should ponder what would happen “if Republican attitudes shift” on climate change: “Some Republicans are quietly shifting tack on climate change. Investors and executives ignore this at their peril, since there are at least four reasons why this quiet(ish) shift might affect policy – even in the White House. One factor is the polls…A second issue is the influence of business…A third source of pressure comes from the military…The fourth – and arguably most important – factor is that some Republicans are now trying to counter Democratic proposals for a ‘Green New Deal’ by crafting their own platform that focuses on market-based, business-centred strategies, rather than government intervention and spending…Investors and chief executives should at least ponder what would happen if the Republicans switched their position; not least because an environmental programme that calls for a carbon dividend to bolster energy security would be just as consequential as a carbon tax to stop climate change.”

12 Jul: Reuters: Climate activists find warmer reception at shareholder meetings
    by Ross Kerber
BOSTON – Climate activists found companies more receptive to steps like cutting emissions or buying clean power this year, a new tally of shareholder resolutions shows, a trend proponents said undercuts the case for proxy rule changes sought by business groups.
Of the 145 climate-related proposals filed for this year’s springtime annual meeting season, 39 percent led to deals and were withdrawn, according to Ceres, a Boston-based advocacy group that coordinates and tracks the resolutions. Last year the rate was 36 percent, and 21 percent in 2015…

Executives are more inclined to compromise as extreme weather shows the impact of climate change, said Rob Berridge, Ceres’ director of shareholder engagement…

    Curious George

Greta Thunberg, the poster child of climate scare, has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.

    Wikipedia:

Asperger syndrome, also known as Asperger’s, is a developmental disorder characterised by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. As a milder autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it differs from other ASDs by relatively normal language and intelligence. Although not required for diagnosis, physical clumsiness and unusual use of language are common. Signs usually begin before two years of age and typically last for a person’s entire life.

The exact cause of Asperger’s is unknown.

Climate change alarmists need read a little history and may be surprised to find that Charles Dickens great story “a Christmas Carol” was based only one of the only white Christmas’s in London during his lifetime. They were virtually unknown in the 19th century in London.

Does that mean it was warmer then? Or might it have bee the dense smog that covered the city from coal and wood fireplaces that people found necessary for food and warmth in their home..

Coal powered electricity revolutionised the atmosphere over London and benefited all of mankind. Unreliable renewable power is not going to do anything but back take us backward. HELE coal power, gas or nuclear are the current possibilities for safe, reliable and cheaper power to maintain and improve life in the foreseeable future.

I can’t speak for other countries but in Australia the group most at risk from climate despair are our school kids.

Human induced “catastrophic” global warming is an accepted fact in our classrooms. Al Gore’s SciFi movie is still being shown to our kids. This is why (for example) we see school kids protesting to our prime minister for climate action.

Obviously these kids are not taught that Australia emits just 1.3% of the “problem”. But I suppose it’s easier to wag school and protest on the lawns of Parliament House than to attempt similar in Beijing?
