We are trying to speed up the site. But it appears that Chrome users may be missing posts on the home page since the latest change. So this is a test post to see if the problem is temporary. There should be 69 or more comments on the latest post “Were the Dems Shocked”. Dissenter and Firefox appear to be fine.
I’m on Chrome Jo and it shows 70 comments for me. The slowest loading in recent days has been opening up the comments. Getting the article is quite quick.
20
Firefox here, and 70 comments on the election Post and 83 on the Unthreaded.
A little faster too.
Tony.

The “Were the Dems shocked” says 82 comments. I counted 85 twice.
The Unthreaded header says 93 comments and I counted 93.

That is why your comment stands out from the crowd professor.

I’ve assumed the relative slowness of this site was because electrons travel more slowly in a south to north path than in other directions. The fastest site seems to be Paul Homewood’s “Not a Lot of People Know That”; at similar Latitude. E. M. Smith’s “Musings from the Chiefio”; closer but not faster, but more south.
Can I get a grant to study this?
Seriously, you are a bit slow – but well worth the wait.
Small purchase of chocolates made. Thanks.

Thank you John!

If the grant application links the slow north to south path to climate change it’s a sure-fire winner. I think, too, if it can show why Trump is a beast, and Biden really did win the election, you will get the Pull-itzer

It’s most likely got something to do with Hurricanes. They spin clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere and anti-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere whereas the Earth still rotates East to West in both…
😀

BUT!
A was once asked by a North American friend which way the sink water revolved.
So I assessed the research site – our lab.
Of IIRC 25 available test facilities, with replication (and yes that was really excess water consumption – but in the name of science you know) 12 went one way, 13 the other.
I concluded that the hand of the plumber over-ruled Correolis
But will allow harder to plumb a hurricane

On firefox, the article appears quickly, while the comments and side bars take a while, but is still a bit faster than it was a couple of days ago.
30
That’s what I’m getting on my mobile with the original Chinese software.
Better now than a few days ago but still not instantaneous.

Just something to remember, MS Edge uses the Chromium open source project as well, as does Avast Secure Browser
30
Just to add to that, this Jan 2019 website lists all the browsers that use Chromium

always been a slow load in Chrome but hasn’t been too bad of late.
I check every day and have never missed a post. Years and years now.
Chrome doesn’t show the right number of commenters here and Catalaxy files at times. So there are google issues, what I dont know.

You come in very slowly on Safari (Mac), and have done for some weeks. However, all that arrives seems complete.

Jaydee I had trouble the other day but seems to be back to normal on the iPad .

Posting took two minutes.

Yes. Point taken. Far too long, and hopefully we can solve that next.

Also using an iphone 6 with some slower times on Jo’s site compared to others.

71 for me on Safari. Just posted one.

Thanks. This feedback is useful. Maybe I need to update my Chrome browser.

My up-to-date Firefox takes 20 seconds to display the comments.

As I type this I see 74 comments on the previous thread. I am using Chrome on an Android mobile.

Hi Jo,
I use Firefox on my ancient (Linux-driven) PC, and as the Firefox app on my iPhone.
I saw all 75 comments to the “Dems panicked” post on both just a few minutes ago.
Curiously, the old PC loads faster, although the loading speed is slow on both.
I trust that this is a useful report, hopefully rather more useful than the slow brown fox reply from G-A.
If the load speed is a result of a recent increase in volume of requests traffic to your posts,
then we shouldn’t complain.
Thanks, as ever, for what you do.
Best regards,
Paul Miskelly

That’s weird. Apart from the comments taking about 15-20 secs. or so to load on MS Edge, it is showing all threads including this one, but if I open Avast Secure Browser, it shows Thursday Unthreaded as the last (or first) thread.
System specs.

With duck duck it gets terribly slow but no posts go missing.
The two pages I opened to get here seemed faster. Hope so.
I use duck duck because of it’s built in ad blocker. If this deprives you of revenue I can white list this site.

All OK on our Chrome Windows 10 PC. The small prob in the last few weeks was a slow load when you opted to read comment. That is acceptably fast now.
Strange things happening with our outgoing emails. Only about half are being transmitted. But that is aseparate problem. Geoff S

Just opened this in Firefox 82.0.3 (64-bit) and see “were the dems shocked” has 80 comments and “testing 1,2,3” has 27.
“Thursday Unthreaded” has 93 comments.
Opened it in Chrome (Version 86.0.4240.198 (Official Build) (64-bit)) and “were the dems shocked” and “testing 1,2,3” are not even there.
“Thursday Unthreaded” has just 11 comments.
10
Safari in iPhone 11 matches the above Firefox experience. Seems good.
The above Chrome not showing “were the Dems shocked” and “testing 1,2,3 is on Windows 10 Business version 1903. OS build 18362.1082
10
Update.
Firefox shows “the only thing climate change is destroying is science” as the latest article.
Chrome still only showing up to article “2.7 million votes switched” with 104 comments. (for that same article firefox shows 172 comments)
Articles missing in chrome include:
“The only thing climate change is destroying is science”.
“Can your bank delete you?”
“The purge begins: WordPress kicks off …”
“Swamp is terrified of Trumps legal cases”
Cleared out the Chrome cache and cookies. No change. “2.7 million votes switched” is still the most recent article.
“Weekend unthreaded”
“I’m going to release the Kraken”

On Chrome Jo & only received 23 comments.
Retrieving comments is a little quicker but numer of comments 23.
20
Chrome and 32 comments for me Jo. However on my Samsung phone browser, there have been no new posts for a day or so.
10
111 comments on the Dem story and 60 here now Jo, and on my Samsung phone usuing both the Samsung and chrome browsers, no posts from you since Thursday.
00
Not sure if you are still following this thread Jo, but your posts are two days late on my phone apps, and comments take longer to load on my desktop.
00
William that’s interesting about the no posts for a couple of days because that is what was happening here on the iPad a couple of years back .
Post are at 89 for the previous thread .
10
I have tested using Brave, Edge, and Firefox. None show comments for ‘Were the Dems Shocked’. I have allowed up to around five minutes for the comments to load. I can, however, see #10 comments on this post (Testing 1,2,3) in each of Brave, Edge, Firefox.
10
I just put a comment into ‘Were the Dems shocked’ and comments up to #35 (including many sub comments) showed up at the time my own comment (#35) was displayed. The processing of my comment took the usual amount of time, perhaps a little faster than recently. Posting comments has become quite slow, probably for several months.
00
Using Safari I cannot get this Testing 123 post or “were the dems shocked”. Simultaneously on the same computer using Firefox I can get it all and 90+ comments.
With Safari I get Thursday Unthreaded with 11 comments. Previous one is “Electronic vote ……” with 42 comments
I have been thinking for months they are after you and I could not load your site at all in the middle of the covid stuff.
20
Should have looked at your comments before I posted Jane. Exactly the same on my iPad, and restarting the iPad doesn’t alter anything.
00
Ditto, as at 3.23am Nov 14
Chrome shows both posts with correct number of comments.
00
Hey guys ‘n gals: PJ, G4 and GD.
See my comments at #44 & #45 and try out the IP address method
(after clearing all cookies.)
See what happens.
00
Thanks, but it’s now ok, so didn’t need to do anyth8ng.
00
Now coming up much faster than before. Until this week I’d click on your site – go make a coffee – come back and still have to wait for you to wake up. on firefox.
00
All good and quick on Chrome.
01
Using Safari or Chrome on iPad, this site hasn’t updated since this morning. Thursday Open still showing only 11 comments, and I can’t see this thread at all.
10
Graeme I’m seeing it ok using Safari although pages never refresh unless done manually .
00
All ok now thanks Robert – didn’t need to do anything.
00
Well I’m only getting 4 posts on “were the dems shocked”. Firefox 82.0.3. Linux Mint 19.3. The site is loading quicker though.
00
PS, I use Chromium as my second browser for banking and the like. Chromium shows no posts re “were the dems shocked”.
10
PPS, Chromium is the upstream version of Chrome.
00
Here in Ohio USA at 8:45EST, Chrome displayed “Were the Dems shocked by Trumps lead, and panicked and made mistakes?” without comments in 2 seconds and it took another 13 seconds to display the comments. The last comment displayed is #37. I got the same results when I used Edge.
20
I am shocked, SHOCKED to hear vote fraud is going on in “our” communo-fascist kleptocracy!
And I see no comments on JoNova. I do not use the Face thing.
00
Huh! Now I see comments all over. Izzis like the Dutch boy pulling his finger out of the dyke and flooding the Netherlands?
00
On Vivaldi – based on Chrome – seeing 103 comments 10:57 am 13NOV NYC time.
00
It’s looking better Jo 🙂
Vivaldi, Brave, and Opera (all Chrome based therefore Google inspired codebase) appear a lot slower than Firefox based browsers.
Basilisk (aka Palemoon) another independent build based on Unified XUL platform is easily the fasted at loading (but not always the most stable!).
Fastest and stable are the independent builds based on WebKitGTK ‘Web’ (aka Epiphany), and SeaMonkey browsers. All these are running on my hacked-up Linux machine and/or laptop.
10
I use Brave and the website just now was stuck at Thursday, until I did a CTL-F5, then it came up correctly.
10
Shift-F5 works also.
00
Right, this is using Mozilla Firefox.
(finally ‘convinced’ to work on the desired thread. I have some doubts about both Firefox and me.)
Counts will be returned through Vivaldi (chrome based) and then done again.
00
Vivaldi (Chrome based)
Page refresh = 24 seconds.
Nothing appeared to be missing (manual count made to compare with page count.
Mozilla upload (above #41) = 7 seconds,
Return of page with new comment added = 21 seconds
Next figures will be from Knqueror (the source of Safari.) (In other words, I’m switching browsers)
00
Poor old Konqueror. .0
It got me to a front page starting with Thursday Unthreaded.
Maybe it’s superstitious and doesn’t like Friday the 13?
Stupid browser: it’s Saturday the 14th!
So I’ll flag that one away. Gee, and I only ran an upgrade earlier at the start of the week when I was told some site tried to “fingerprint” me.
3 posts missing from the top of the page including the Testing 1 2 3.
(Konqueror provides or provided source code for Safari. I’m not sure if updates patches and fixes are bi-directional between the two.)
So Konqueror was not further tested.
This comes from Vivaldi. (Chrome-based).
00
verry interesting.
I cleared cookies and site data by closing firefox and vivaldi both down. This is set in the browsers preferences, and then restarted both firefox and vivaldi.
Firefox did what Konqueror did and stopped at Thursday 12th.
Waterfox followed firefox
Vivaldi, obviously, came back to Test 1,2,3.

Are you sure, Jo, that this isn’t some domain name/address resolution problem as well?
Firefox is insisting (it’s adamant!) on changing the protocol from http: to https:
eh?
I entered: http://223.27.18.253/ which is the last known IP address I have for your server. Wow. That was fast.
(Yes, yes, you stupid little browser: I know it’s insecure but no security for my “personal data” is necessary.) And it came up with 2020/11/testing-123/ with only 16 comments.
Oh well. firefox has just been tossed off my machine for the second time …
Email: take a letter … to: the Dear Little Idiots at Mozilla.
I’ have just tossed your useless web browser — firefox—off my computer for the second time this year. When I say useless I MEAN USELESS. No software which thinks it knows more than I do survives on my computers and your web browser has just broken that rule … (more to follow)
10
I tried this on Konqueror:
http://223.27.18.253
and (gee, that was supersonic!) got all the top of the present front page(?) (with the headline:
2.7 million votes switched and hints Dominion Whistleblowers came forward? )
I was able to scroll down to testing 123 but it is still showing only 16 comments.
However, the protocol was back to the incorrect https:
I had entered http:
I think your domain-name server is “up the creek” … you’ve been twittered.

Hmm, IPV6 IP Address. I wonder when this happened? I saw something about “Cloudflare” three months ago. But didn’t flag it to chase … This happens and then the Internet goes to IPV6 behind our backs and everything cocks up. Must be that Biden fellow …. Biden Jr!
It’s a San Francisco based company. California Huh! Should have guessed: a head full of dandelion fluff …
Hmmm. I wonder if they’re connected to the Dominion Voting Machine failures …. and a certain laptop …
20
sophocles,
Who do you think you DNS is? Have a look at https://chiefio.wordpress.com/2020/11/01/food-fight-over-encrypting-dns/ and the fight that is going on about how the browser gets to ‘a’ DSN server.
00
It used to be 2degrees.co.nz but since three months ago, I’ll
guess cloudflare.
IPV4 over IPV6 ls Sssssssssllllllloooooooowwwww if there is the slightest configuration error.
10
Thanks for the link.
There were talking about making DNS servers authenticate with the upstream servers some years ago and that’s when I stopped running local DNS and took the performance hit (slight). But I can see we’re back in the Wars.
However that tells me it’s not all Jo’s problem, just part of it.
10
You guessed correctly. IT was cloudflare. Given the number of problems with Chrome after 24 hours we turned it off. 🙁
There are other ways to speed up this site, and we will work on them.
Cloudflare sped things up, but the Chrome caching was a killer. Somehow once we turned on Cloudflare Chrome browsers (mostly) didn’t get new posts and new comments.
Any suggestions?
10
Hmmm!
“OK, another Cloudflare screwup, looks like… I’m increasingly un-fond of Cloudflare as they often seem to be the source of DNS scewups I’ve encountered. Maybe they will “fix it” whatever “it” is… someday…”

How come the “email this post” function is now missing?
00
Sorry Rick, we are turning off plugins trying to identify which is the source of the slowness, and will reinstall them again some time when we can. Apologies. But do keep giving me feedback. I’m not sure what people use…
10
119 showing now, Jo. The articles are coming up quickly but there is a hesitation, sometimes 10 seconds or more, on the comments. But quicker than before, on The iPad.
10
I’ve now got AUTOSEND on the browser.
Expletives deleted.
It’ll upload before I’ve finished with it.
Oh joy …
10
I don’t know what Autosend is?
00
Firefox, Win10; have had lots of trouble getting past “Thursday Unthreaded”. Tried clearing cache, cookies, ran anti-virus and CC Cleaner. Early Saturday morning here in Wyoming, I’m seeing about a hundred comments on the “2.7 Million Votes … ” Thread.
On side “Recent Comments” bar, I see a comment posted on a thread that starts with “I’m Going to Unleash … “, but clicking on the comment takes me to the top post as “Thursday Unthreaded”.
Hoping Jo can get me recent news, as I’ve quit watching Fox News, who have gone all-in on P-E Harris … …

Chrome is a joke. I tried it once, but that was once too many times. Everything is fine….without Chrome
00
Dunno whether it throws any light on anything, but I just left a comment on the 2.7 Million thread which showed up as No.67 when comments were up to No.79 before I posted. (Awaiting moderation – smiles sweetly …)
This thread is (for me) claiming 88 comments, but only actually showing 54 as I type this. Let’s see where it comes out …
No other problems noted – site loads, articles show, links work, just the odd discrepancy in the comment count. (Pale Moon browser on Linux Mint.)
[Apologies we are experiencing some issues as you’ve pointed out but the host is working on a fix, your future comments should go straight through now .

I am still seeing problems here in the UK – my latest visible article is Rudy Guliani (though yesterday I had a later one). I am on Firefox but yesterday I also tried Edge and the Apple browser on my iPad, with the same results.
00
Thanks for the feedback. I am still figuring out a better solution.
I am trying cloudflare again with frequent purges of caches. I don’t know if that helps.
