Corruption is like acid to a High Trust Democracy. When cheating becomes naked, obvious and there is no pushback, no justice, it unleashes a corrosive force. The circles of cheating spread like ripples on a pond and cheating-feedback waves grow until turbulence consumes everything, and there is no peace or clarity left. Under the surface, the acid spreads, changing the underlying chemistry of every reaction.
First the politicians who were tempted to cheat, but feared exposure, realize they can get away with it (or certain flavours of it). Billionaires and corporate powers who didn’t play the game realize they need to toss some money in the pot.
Then the intrinsically honest politicians watching on, start to doubt that there is much point in staying honest. The honest businessmen start to wonder if they will be left behind if they don’t put hot cash in the right hand.
Trust is the grease that makes Western economies the powerhouses of the world. There will never be enough police, enough auditors or enough spies to catch all the cheaters if everyone breaks the rules.
There will not be enough judges and courts to hear all the evidence — or during the CERN Supercollider high speed transition — almost any evidence at all.
Quickly, the phase change from High Trust to Banana-Republic flips the mostly good to the mostly self-serving like a domino race. Trust is a psychological state, and minds can flip in a day. Each flipped mind leans on the minds around it. Only those with implacable convictions and faith resist the transition, and their power to do anything diminishes immensely after the mainstream players flip to play by the new cheating rules.
Why would any community want to risk tossing a dumpster of Conc Sulfuric Acid in their pond? Once done, the only remedy might be a dumpster of caustic soda. This is not an experiment good people want to play.
When even the FBI favour the corrupt, and ignore a lap-top full of evidence during an election year — which includes the President being impeached essentially for the crimes the Biden family appear to have committed — the phase change is almost upon us.

When citizens no longer feel as though they have a say in their government, when they feel as though their government has been stolen right out from in front of them, they no longer feel an obligation to live their lives by the framework laid out in the Constitution.

One of the flaws of the American legal process is that it is designed to move slowly.
We have an almost pathological fear of an adverse decision punishing the innocent, thus there
are numerous procedural hoops before one can get to evidentiary matters. The Left knows this, and knows that
once seated the Constitution provides no means of removing a President. That part of the evidence that has not been lost or destroyed
will eventually be examined, and the rolls will be compared to the vote, and documentary evidence will be certified the the
absentee process did, in fact, provide sufficient fraud to turn the election. The examination of the Dominion machines will determine that, at a minimum,
they did not meet the criteria the states themselves set for accuracy and integrity. A few minor functionaries will be punished on a minor basis
so the courts can justify their existence. It will take a competent author to pull all the strands together and publish the comprehensive study the proves the case,
to support campaigning in the next election.
The test case was Senator Al Franken; the court eventually determined that he was elected base on illegal votes, but that the courts, base on the doctrine of separation of powers, had no remedy for removal. Only the senate, as a body, could remove him, or the voters of a state, through a recall election, if the state had such a mechanism (not all do). So he stayed, and was a key vote on some very bad laws, until he was forced from office base on charges of sexual misconduct.
SO the fraud need only be well enough covered up to avoid injunctive relief; not hard when you have judges in you pocket who will rule in your favor thus neutralizing any adverse rulings. And the brazen stonewalling, and BS “it was a fair election” statements and, of course, the screams of racism and voter suppression.
You had to file these losing cases as a way of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s when you file your final State Supreme Court Case, which you’ll only be able to do after months of FOI requests and prying documents and files out of recalcitrent or obstructionist local officials. If you can’t get a hearing, and have REAL evidence, then and only then can you move to Federal courts based on constitutional denial of franchise.
The law is not made for speed, and the perps are mostly lawyers. But the public is persuaded at the moment; and will stay persuaded if the case is prosecated in a careful and transparent manner. The is essential if the practices we just suffered through are not to become the norm.

I recall the glee with which the ABC and most Australian media greeted each rejection by an American court, at whatever level, to hear a case. The rejection was then followed with a no credible evidence report. What the MSM failed to do or decided not to do was to tell their readership that since the case was not heard no evidence could be presented which is vastly different from there being no evidence. I think the evidence is so overwhelming many judges saw their cushy job disappearing at their next election if they did hear the case. Remember that many lower and local judges are elected and serve at the whim of the people. Democrat judges are not going to hear a case where the Republicans win. We should simply go back to the ballots, check the signature match, check the registration book, check the voter registered, and give a yea or nay.
There are projects doing this for about half to two thirds of the absentee ballots. I’ll wait for the data.

Here = one state’s application of its voting laws permitting fraud dilutes the vote of another state’s voters.

Culture is all important, and I say this with extensive corporate experience where I have achieved huge turn arounds, in one case taking a business which was the worst in Asia Pacific for a large multinational to the best in just over a year.

One of the drawbacks of our minimum wage system is that the MW is reasonably good so it does not encourage people to strive for a better job. I refer to the number of people who seem content to stay on welfare and an increasing number who see it as a career judging by their disdain of education and trade training. Transparency: If US states want to count votes with machines, they should require them to run entirely on Open Source Software. This way everybody would know what these machines are really doing. With closed source software (secret source code) controlling machines only the manufacturer knows what the machines are doing.
Without Open Source Software any election based on machines counting, and thus the entire election is broken by design.

Seals could have been checked using social distancing.
With the correct label size visibility it should be possible to keep ballot boxs in the vision of CCTV from the moment the first ballots is placed in it until the last one is emptied out.

Open corruption is an issue that interests me. I remember hearing of drug gangs in parts of South America that carried out murders in full public view without any attempt to disguise their identity. It demonstrated their immunity from prosecution and in turn, instilled fear in the community that they could act with impunity as the ‘law’ had either been purchased or completely intimidated.

US Politicians decided what they want to do and then they make the government give them analysis that justifies what they want to do for political reasons. This system will not allow lying analysis and will control the spending to keep it out. It will spend money to ensure the analysis is honest.
It is a fact, that Voting in the US, is not an effective means to pick/hire unbiased, smart, patriotic, young men and women to make all of US spending and policy decisions. Pelosi for example is too old 80 years, she is very biased, she is not patriotic, and she has her own agenda. If the US was in a difficult situation we would not hire Pelosi or Biden to help. A flaw in your plan (IMHO) is the formation of the group. Where do you find such a group of unbaised, intelligent, fair minded people? I think you previously said that they should be paid only a modest amount of money, and maybe they should be young. Well I am worried about the young because they are blind to their own ignorance and lack of experience and they tend to be over confident about their idealism.
Even if the group start off unbiased, fair minded and committed to the national good, how can they stay that way? It is human nature to suffer from hubris and be susceptible to flattery.

Presumably the 70 legislators are selected by the Joint Chiefs (or their subordinates) but the joint chiefs have no legitimacy unless they are appointed by the President.

My take is that the agencies were counting on Biden being the President and then their reports would just gather dust so why rush. Ratcliffe’s clearly made up his mind about Chinese “influence” and gone public. Is this his way of telling the “intel community” to get their act together ASAP?

It issued recommendations and banned large gatherings. It eschewed forcing people to wear masks, which countless studies had shown to be ineffective. It tried to strike a balance between health and wellbeing, broadly defined. Quarantining entire healthy populations for months, by force, was considered so extreme it wasn’t even canvassed. Nor was the mass testing of healthy people.
This is a debate about the rights of the individual in relation to the state. It’s a debate about whether the ends always justify the means, and whether the risk of a tiny increase in mortality among the over-80s justifies interventions unseen in modern history.
In short, 2020 has been a chilling display of how quickly rights fought for across centuries can be snuffed out temporarily. It will be interesting to see how quickly they come back. Maybe we should keep the QR code infrastructure in place just in case. Why shouldn’t governments know your whereabouts if it can help save lives?

This is perhaps a signal that a communicable disease is at work, but not a very strong one. As Adam says, if not for the media’s “relentless drumbeat”, anyone outside a nursing home wouldn’t know it was happening. From 2017–2019, Sweden has had a low excess of deaths in 17 different weeks—one week in ten!—without any public notice. Is the new normal to be a lockdown every tenth week?

The basic facts prove this isn’t simply about Hunter Biden but has already escalated into a serious corruption scandal for Joe Biden. Now that evidence is mounting and showing Joe Biden was involved or at the very least, a beneficiary of the deals, the media narrative has predictably become, “there is no evidence.” There is evidence and there will be more. For America, the question should be about how this impacts national security and whether Joe Biden is compromised by a foreign enemy as commander-in-chief.

How about the presidential election fraud story? There was fraud. It is documented. There are multiple witnesses in multiple states. There is hard statistical evidence. There are state-level investigations. There are state-level audits that are currently being manipulated (again). This is not some made-up thing. There was a Senate hearing yesterday cataloging the instances of fraud, for heaven’s sake. The question isn’t whether there’s been voter fraud. That’s been firmly established, and people are being prosecuted right now for allegedly violating the law and producing hundreds and in some cases thousands of fraudulent ballots. The question now is whether all these fraudulent votes add up to enough to turn the election for Joe Biden. Some very smart scientists (see Nevada, here), statisticians, and computer experts think it did.
And yet the election fraud story is being treated like Monica Lewinsky — a nasty little inconvenience getting in the way of favored politician greatness.
There will have to be Blue Dress Proof™ as I’m coining it, for the media, for the Democrats, and for even the so-called intellectual conservatives to believe that this obvious thing that happened actually happened. There has always been voter fraud and maybe the fraud has moved other recent elections, too. We don’t know for sure, but this is something Americans should feel confident about. Americans should know with certainty that their votes count, that fraud couldn’t possibly sway an election of such magnitude.
It’s obvious why the Democrats and media want this story to go away. If the fraud is verifiable and it was ubiquitous enough, then Joe Biden actually lost the election. Losing would mean four more years of enduring a politician they loathe.

Not the FBI I remember: William Barnett’s troubling interview
A window into chaos at both the FBI and DOJ can be seen through the eyes of one individual at the center: the case agent for the Flynn investigation.
In September, federal prosecutors filed a supplemental motion in the case. It included the interview of FBI Special Agent William Barnett. An agent of 20 years, he was interviewed as a witness in an independent DOJ review of the FBI’s investigation of the Flynn case. Barnett “handled the counterintelligence investigation of Mr. Flynn, and was thereafter assigned to the Special Counsel’s Office investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.”
Barnett’s interview reveals a startling glimpse of dysfunction inside the FBI and Special Counsel Office. Clearly an outsider, he was skeptical of the Flynn case from the beginning. He was not alone in his views, but his assessments and persistent questions — “Where’s the crime?” — put him at odds with his superiors.
The Razor investigation remained in a holding pattern through late 2016, with no directive to close the case or pressure to investigate. Barnett sought to close the investigation after the election. To wrap up a case that developed no evidence of a crime, he suggested interviewing Flynn. His request was denied.
This is where things get interesting.
Instead of closing the case, Barnett’s supervisor now suggests interviewing Flynn the next day; however, Barnett is not available. He was excluded from further discussions until Jan. 25, when he was informed that Flynn was interviewed the previous day. His supervisor was apologetic that Barnett was not consulted or notified.
Let’s pause here to ask some questions:
After Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel, Barnett briefed the Flynn case to Special Counsel Office attorney Jean Rhee, concluding no evidence of a crime was found. Rhee wasn’t satisfied and continued to drill down on the case. Barnett wanted nothing to do with the investigation, although Strzok persuaded him to continue working at the office, just not with Rhee.
After the firing of former FBI director James Comey, Mueller’s attorneys directed all investigative activity. Barnett said he sensed a sort of “groupthink” and a “get Trump” attitude. Mueller’s team wanted to be part of something big, but not solely to get Trump. It appears they started with the assumption that a crime had been committed and their goal was to find evidence to support the charge.

Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro published a lengthy report Thursday outlining several examples of voting irregularities that are “more than sufficient” to swing the outcome of the election in President Trump’s favor.
The 36-page report “assesses the fairness and integrity of the 2020 Presidential Election by examining six dimensions of alleged election irregularities across six key battleground states” and concludes that “patterns of election irregularities … are so consistent across the six battleground states that they suggest a coordinated strategy to, if not steal the election, strategically game the election process in such a way as to … unfairly tilt the playing field in favor of the Biden-Harris ticket.”
The six dimensions of voting irregularities in the report include: outright voter fraud, ballot mishandling, contestable process fouls, equal protection clause violations, voting machine irregularities, and significant statistical anomalies.
All six of those voting issues were present in at least two key states, according to the report, and a total of six battleground states experienced multiple examples of the other dimensions.
“Evidence used to conduct this assessment includes more than 50 lawsuits and judicial rulings, thousands of affidavits and declarations, testimony in a variety of state venues, published analyses by think tanks and legal centers, videos and photos, public comments, and extensive press coverage,” the report claims.

If he stays on the Intelligence Committee, the GOP stands ready to make him a poster boy. “The situation with Swalwell, just like the situation with Hunter Biden, ties together the biggest weakness Democrats have: That they’re soft on China,” a former White House official said. “This is going to be an ongoing issue for Democrats.”

Most of those COVID loans went to the guys with the big bucks who can purchase influence, while the little guy got screwed. According to Joshua Philipp, Roberts and Breyer are on tape before the election discussing how “this mother-****** can never be reelected.” It is unclear how such a tape exists and who is publishing it.
Like everyone they are entitled to their opinion but having such strong opinions they are honour-bound to recuse themselves from deliberations which would be outcome determinative re the election.

Today is day 4 of the America’s Cup Global regatta. It’s being sailed on Auckland’s Waitemata harbour.
The regatta is over 4 days and this is day 4 of racing. The AC 75
yachts are low-flying projectiles. They were getting 43 km/hr from these boats in what were described as “light winds.” yesterday, I think they (wind speed) were less than 10km/hr but I could be wrong. We’re all waiting for racing to start again. Spectaror boats are still being cleared from the course but maybe 15 minutes time.
As you can see, I’m highly distracted. The weather has been Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine and today, the last day of the global regatta, it’s sunshine again …
This is why I was so quick to action Jo’s suggestion for “Industrial pop-corn.” This is racing I’m not gonna miss.
The next racing will the Cup Challenger’s regatta to determine who is going up against Team New Zealand for the Cup and that’s next month (I think) and in March we have the Cup racing itself. I won’t be missing any of it.

Two out of 4 races sailed. Last race was Team NZ vs American Magic and Team NZ’ s race was impeccable. American Magic fell off its foils at one turn and that turned into over a 1000m loss. Wind speeds were 9-10 knots and boat speeds were 32 – 33 knots ( c. 36 mph and c. 59 km/hr.)
