Defund The Academics! CSIRO, Australian Unis had worked with Wuhan Lab too (and they forgot to mention it for 18 months?)

Well here’s a surprise. A year and a half later and now we find out that Australian labs were also helping China?

Covid, Coronavirus, Bioweapons. And tonight, 520 days after China shared the genetic sequence of SARS-2, Australian scientists are suddenly very concerned about how Australia might still be doing gain-of-function work with viruses? Minister Greg Hunt is asking for a “review” of gain-of-function research in Australia? Did he even know?

It’s amazing what the power of a good reporter can achieve. Hail Sharri Markson and The Australian.

For 500 long pandemic days some publicly funded scientists had millions of reasons apparently, not to talk about how the virus might have been a lab leak.  These public servants may have been publicly scoffing at the idea the virus may have leaked from a lab,  but they didn’t think to mention that they’d worked with bats, and gain-of-function viruses and even the Wuhan lab itself?

They were ethically bound to speak up. Did they say nothing, or did they talk to Morrison and Hunt in private? After which, given the government’s role, possibly none of them wanted to let that bat out of the bag?

Public trust in these institutions might be about to dive…

The CSIRO has even been forced to correct itself. Somehow it didn’t tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth to the Senate Estimates Hearing.

CSIRO, unis in 10 joint research projects with Wuhan lab

Sharri Markson and Liam Mendes, The Australian

The CSIRO has been forced to correct evidence it gave at a Senate estimates hearing after initially denying its researchers had undertaken work on live bats with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the lab at the centre of growing international concern it was the source of Covid-19. CSIRO chief operating officer Judi Zielke admitted the organisation had “undertaken research on bats previously”.

“Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness did undertake research on bats in collaboration with the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2016-17,” Ms Zielke said.

The same organisations with the same grant games to play wouldn’t have an interest in not telling the whole truth on climate models? Different researchers, but the same process, same incentive, and same organisations?

Go Matt Canavan:

Under questioning from Nationals senator Matt Canavan on June 3, the CSIRO initially gave evidence that it “does not undertake research on live bats at ACDP”. However, Senator Canavan later presented the CSIRO with an excerpt from a scientific paper written in conjunction with the Wuhan lab stating: “Wild caught P Alecto bats were trapped in Southern Queensland, Australia, and transported alive by air to the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Victoria, where they were euthanised for dissection.”

And this research helped us, how?

The CSIRO and the Wuhan Institute of Virology collaborated on several projects on bats’ antiviral immunity in 2011. The purpose of a study was to understand why bats remained asymptomatic to viral infection that was capable of spillover to other susceptible mammals “with lethal consequences”.

Indeed, the ten projects were spread over ten years but one researcher at the University of Queensland was involved with that Wuhan Institute of …”Bioweapons” itself  as recently as August last year. US intelligence had already warned the whole pandemic might be due to a lab leak, and yet Dr Hume Field was working with the very same Professor Shi (the Batwoman) and Peter Daszek (the Fauci favorite). Dr Field is an advisor to the infamous “EcoHealth Alliance”.

Spot the names…

Something about the way we fund our scientists is seriously screwed.

Professor MacIntyre said there needed to be more community consultation on this research.

You don’t say…

The parallels with the grant-gobbling climate research industry is too close for comfort.
When will it come out of the woodwork that us sceptics were right all along about the CAGW scam?

Probably never. That would require politicians to say they were wrong or misled or just stupidly gullible or maybe they really did want to destroy our economy. As for the second rate scientists so beloved of the media they are simply corrupt and greedy. What it does mean is that science is under suspicion; who do we trust now that we know that they give conflicting advice and often hide information for financial reasons? Now we know that governments lie to us as well as vaccinated people are still suffering lockdowns after being told that vaccination will set us free. Bottom line is that scientists, governments and media all tell us BS and still expect to retain our respect and obedience. Fat chance.

There will be an accounting for all this.

“For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones.
        “Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed;
“the offspring of the wicked will perish. ( psalm 37:28 )

Note its not the wicked , but thier children who will suffer.
Would you want that legacy upon your kids?

Perfect justice will be served. I wouldnt want to be one of those involved in all this….oh no….

Ah yes. Divine judgement for the water diviner.

Larry R. Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency and supposedly one of the most multidisciplinary research organisations in the world, according to that green-left rag “The Guardian”.

          https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2014/dec/05/new-csiro-boss-larry-marshall-says-scientists-must-think-like-entrepreneurs

In 2014, Marshall was awarded the Australian Skeptics Bent Spoon award for being the “perpetrator of the most preposterous piece of paranormal or pseudo-scientific piffle” after publicly endorsing water divining.

He should now be sacked. Drummed out in disgrace.

What’s carved in stone is the fact that the Royal Society these days allocates nearly £42 million each year from government grants and donations and legacies from organisations and individuals and employs some 140 staff.

Nullius in verba sank like a stone as it succumbed to the great government temptress – the filthy Lucre.

vale seems very appropriate as both Sharri and The Australian seem to imagine global correlation is underhand and illegal. It isn’t.

Scientists all over the world do collaborate and always have done. I’m sure when Jo was undertaking her honours project at UWA she would have read the relevant literature and either she or her supervisor might well have contacted the author(s) of papers that were particularly relevant. Most institutions such as CSIRO and many others do collaborate with scientists in other countries. To now cry”horror” and “defund” is just counter productive and foolish in the extreme. The link below gives the views of scientists about collaboration

You really are an obnoxious wally.

What pandemics have Chinese Labs produced world wide. SARS? The origin of SARS-CoV is thought to be bats. It’s believed that the virus passed from bats to an intermediate animal host, the civet cat, before jumping to humans. No evidence it came from a Chinese Laboratory. Be careful you don’t get done for libel. The CCP don’t like it.

MERS? First identified in the Arabian Peninsula not China.

SARS-CoV-2. As yet no hard evidence of how this virus originated. Unless you have some which I very much doubt

Which side of the scientific argument regarding Covid-19 is being stifled by the far-left? No-one else seems to be aware of this. Please elaborate.

As for Australia collaborating with China it along with other countries such as France and the US, has been doing so for over ten years so it’s not something startlingly new. Or perhaps it is to you as I doubt you have had much interest in or understanding of science until very recently

                Ian reply did indeed ignore…
There is zero evidence the wuflu developed from bats or other animals.
There is abundant evidence that China was working on creating a GOF virus remarkably similar to what manifested within a few miles of the very claimed origination of the virus.
The silencing of qualified people in China asserting their involvement in developing the wuflu.
The past history of “biological accidents” with China.
China’s generally poor history of industrial safety.
China’s communist roots and structure, only modified by its fascist creation of corporations subservient to its dominant central government.
China’s brutal past and tyrannical present.
The clear central power infatuation of the OWG statists who apparently, like Obama’s idols, consider Mow to be their “favorite political philosopher” the current US Secretary of State defending communism.
                And a whole lot more…

Yet Ian, in his best cum-by-ya imitation, makes a utterly un-nuanced plea to general “ international scientific cooperation “ which given the strong evidence to the above, along with China’s global mercantilism, would require a childlish foolishness to believe of China. And this love fest of “ international scientific cooperation “ was for a highly questionable and prohibited GOF research of deadly pathogens, now proved to be both inane, insane, and evil. As well as being a KNOWN goal of the tyrannical CCP,

Yet this Ian fellow imagines his debate to be both sophisticated and nuanced, when it is in fact simplistic and ignores a hundred cogent facts.

Yes. Science justifies itself. To eschew any branch of science is to get left behind. Even with weapons of mass destruction, to not engage in research is to be unprepared if they are ever used against you.

Dr Fauci comes across to me unfavourably, but he would not be wrong to engage here provided the terms were satisfactory unless as a US citizen he was breaking US or Chinese laws.

But to allow a lethal pathogen to escape is culpable, and to some extent part of the deal for all involved.

The history of GOF research is full of failures and near disasters, and has zero successes. See my reply about Ian’s comments above. To work with China was both stupid and evil.

There is much that can be studied about viral evolution and pathogens without producing biological WMDs.

There are ways of international cooperation to put tremendous pressure on nations which do such research, making it very unprofitable.

Such high level pressure, along with modern national intelligence, used against real threats instead of patriotic citizens, along with existent nuclear deterrent, is more then adequate, making the “ left behind” argument vapid.

          130

        • #

It is true that scientists have collaborated, and competed with one another, world over for a long time. But this argument based on a tradition of science being aided by openness is a bit narrow. When western scientists cooperate with and even pay Chinese research institutes, to what extent are they aiding the Chinese military? Many scientists I know would freak out to find they were aiding the military or police in Western societies, but don’t give much thought to Chinese security and military. Perhaps they are just naive, but some have hidden agendas probably connected to ideological beliefs. The Tech giants don’t seem to care how much they may aid abusive agencies in the Western or Eastern world. However much Zuck or Frere Jacque pretent to be concerned about ethics, they behave a lot like uncle Joe.

And then when questioned about their cooperative efforts they are anything but up front. They are instead secretive, dissembling, work frantically to obscure and hide connections.

It is interesting the parallels between climate research and biomedical research. Practically everyone in our Western societies who proclaim their allegiance with openness, transparency (especially in government), and so forth work hard to undermine it all. I mean look at the extent government fights FOIA requests.

The political left, who I have never held in much regard anyway, were at least at one time concerned about basic human rights — freedom of speech and association. Now they help lead the charge against these human rights.

U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Warming Scare

      FacebookTwitterLinkedInShare Licensing
      06:43 PM ET 02/10/2015
Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.

Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

No, the big questions are quite apart from the reality of this or any other pathogen, or its imagined widespread presence “in the air” at all. The big questions are how to deal with governments, worldwide, that are only interested in changing the “old order” in the West, of free enterprise, i.e. personal responsibility for one’s own life, into an Eloi existence*** to be provided by them, on their terms alone.

Well, now, what creatures we seem to have in Australian science.

I have been discussing with our GP and some people in elder specialities why my husband has developed a form of epilepsy since having the jab, and why I am now a carer.

I am an intelligent person, a retired journalist, fit and healthy, so was he as an artist until early May. Now he sleeps about 14hrs a day.

Thankfully I am aged in young 60s and haven’t had this jab, though we are fully vaccinated otherwise.

That was Vic Rail, the first to die of the Hendra virus, transferred from the flying fox [horrible creatures]. The virus infects the horses and the horses infects humans.

Why is it OK to name a virus after a Brisbane suburb but not a Chinese city?

Maybe the virus broke out in Wuhan but is wasn’t originally developed there. If it originally began in the USA, which could be a possibility, it could be labelled the Fauci Flu.

Bats are notorious for having some of the nastiest viruses known. Perhaps it’s due to mammals living in dark caves and being nocturnal. Cold damp places might be good for viral survival. We need to understand how their immune systems work to protect them. Could learn a lot from bats.

Bats have some super defense systems against viruses. EG they activate interferon all the time. so the viruses that infect bats have a head start in overcoming our defences and thus are nastier.

    The changing world.
Sixty years ago things that mattered operated on the basis of logic and clear boundaries.

Whether in small business, heavy industry, education, health; if you, as a manager, made constant mistakes and showed poor judgment you would not be promoted.

In our present world there is No Accountability in management and a trend towards the appointment of “managers” based on factors other than specific job knowledge and expertise.

Our universities and national institutions are heavily laden with fly in political appointments whose job skills don’t match the position being “managed”.

It’s the classic expression of the term “jobs for the boys”; and let’s not forget the girls.

    Currently things are not good.

Upper management in government funded operations are simply Not Accountable.

Nobody in government is accountable any more: that’s the problem.

If true accountability was ever to be enforced, a lot of politicians and public servants would need to be put behind bars for a very long time. It’s not going to happen under the current environment. It might happen if and when we crash and burn, and the real reset is executed.

Of course no is accountable KK. After 800 deaths due to Covid a public enquiry into what happened was held in Victoria. This enquiry found, publicly, that NO ONE IN GOVERNMENT IS ACCOUNTABLE. What a way to run a country. Not a single department head was actually accountable for what that department did or did not do. Wow how do I get one of these jobs where, after telling everyone “the buck stops at the top” you can just walk away and keep getting paid for not being accountable.
A certain Chief Commisionar of Police also springs to mind during a major bush fire event a decade or so ago.

      • #

They were not responsible because they did not know what their department had done or did not do. These turkeys are paid monstrous salaries and are unable to track responsibilities so why are they still employed? Oh that’s right; they are public servants. They are also parasites.

Ignoring the nearly always unreliable fake news creation left leaning media, the inquiry cleared the NSW Police Force and evidence was given that the often mentioned question as to why a sniper was not used is answered by the fact that the cafe window glass was/is high strength and would deflect a bullet, the second was that nobody knew exactly what the terrorist had, as in explosive device.

You can certainly add our Great Leader Daniel Andrews who had legions of people telling lies to protect him, and then blamed them. Former Health Minister Jenni Mikakos for one. Accountability? Not on his watch.

Ex-health minister Jenny Mikakos “They do not need another masterclass in political deflection from the Premier.”

Andrews “”If the secretary of the department was still here, I’d expect that she’d be handing me her resignation today, and I would accept it. And I think the same would go for the minister [Jenny Mikakos],” Mr Andrews said after the report was handed down.

So the man responsible for 820 deaths blamed everyone else.

We force medical students to do a Science degree first.

There is time to force politicians to have held a real job, one requiring actual competence and performance before they become Premier or PM (Shorten, Albanese). Otherwise the slippery pole greasers rise to the top, as in all political systems. Even the Police Commisioner lied to the court about his phone call, but was caught out by his phone records. All hail the Great Leader, who was not beaten up but fell down some stairs.

      Accountability??

When Google and FaceBook and Twitter and other social media take down/remove messages which they consider are not true or are misrepresenting the facts they are subject to a storm of abuse from those who do not agree. But they are only being accountable and taking such action to ensure that they do not allow false claims/messages to be transmitted for their site.

When these sites ban particular persons who they consider are making false claims or posting false messages they are being accountable for the monitoring of such persons. Again however they get a tsunami of abuse from those who disagree.

“But they are only being accountable”…. To the far left agenda… hide the truth. !!

to ensure that they do not allow false claims/messages to be transmitted for their site . yet their sites are overflowing with far-left false claims, lies and misinformation.

“they consider are making false claims” .. even though the claims are demonstrably true and from people with far more education in their fields than the people “cancelling” the comments.

Twitter, Facebook, etc will hopefully one day be held accountable for their deletion of facts and reality in their preferential treatment of the lies and misinformation of the far-left agendas.

Correct. According to their own rules, the Parliamentary Privileges Act 1987 provides that a House of Parliament may impose terms of imprisonment or substantial fines for individuals and corporations as a penalty for contempt. To date the Senate has not had occasion to use either of these penalties, preferring an educative and preventative approach. The Senate has accepted apologies and remedial action, and has encouraged government officials in particular to attend training courses on the rights and obligations of witnesses before parliamentary committees. https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Senate/Powers_practice_n_procedures/Senate_Briefs/Brief13

There you have it. All one has to do if anyone has given false or misleading evidence is to say sorry and move on. If in this instance no one goes to jail then we need to be angry. Otherwise what is the point of all their joint authority if 1. some can blatantly lie to parliament and 2. parliament doesn’t care. ? And what is our role then as good little citizens if lying to parliament is OK? How seriously are we expected to take our ‘leaders’? Or do they not care about that either?

Here is a just-released hard-hitting 16min video from the independent video channel “China Uncensored” about how the Chicomms are censoring the science on coronovirus.

It also looks at how the Chicomms influence the content of Western scientific journals as published by organisations such as Elsevier and Nature as well as Lancet.

The Chicomms can just about do as they please because apart from organisations such as the above, the West essentially has no independent media prepared to ask any hard questions and are happy to dutifully propagandise on behalf of the CCP.

World’s biggest academic book publisher bows to China’s censors
By Daniel Shane November 1, 2017: 6:46 AM ET
Another publishing giant has been caught blocking access to academic research in China.

Springer Nature, which claims to be the world’s biggest publisher of academic books, has confirmed that it is restricting access to hundreds of articles that cover topics deemed sensitive to Chinese authorities.

The revelation, first reported by the Financial Times, comes just two months after Cambridge University Press reversed a decision to censor articles in China after a furious backlash from academics and activists.

I remember when the CSIRO was a nonpartisan scientific organisation that practiced good science. Today it’s overrun with climate Marxists and is a propaganda arm for the new climate wokeism, similar to the ABC. What we all need to realise is that all people inflicted by climate wokeism tend to lie regularly and this makes sense because climate alarmism and Marxism are based entirely on lies. I recall a few years back when the CSIRO put out a new study showing the effects of climate change on rainfall, but with a starting year of 1970. If you used the entire BOM rainfall data series from 1900, which included a very dry period before 1945, no rainfall trend was apparent, meaning no climate change effects on rainfall could be observed. In other words, the CSIRO was cherry picking data to make a false claim. This is lying !!!. After seeing this study I realised that the organisation could no longer be trusted and had been consumed by ideology and it’s of no surprise that they have been caught lying to a senate committee now. What is of greater concern though is that they are lying about their involvement in bat studies not just to protect themselves, but also the Chinese. In other words, they must now regard China as a higher master than Australia.

    130

  • #

Of course, The CSIRO has been manufacturing climate change data to fit a global warming narrative! The Bat connection may have some legitimacy due to an equine problem, first noticed in Queensland, that caused the premature death of several racehorses and a couple of Vets?

That would be the Hendra virus (Hendra henipavirus), discovered in 1994. It infects fruit bats, which then infect horses which then infect humans.

It is not a corona virus.

      Realm: Riboviria

So now we have ‘virus mania’.

It is my understanding that this nation is a Commonwealth created by British Colonies that agreed to form a Federation of States, they formed the Federal Government and retained constitutional sovereign powers covering most internal affairs of the nation with some exceptions.

A Prime Minister is one Cabinet Minister chosen by MPs voting for a leader and most government decisions are decided in Cabinet democratically.

PM Keating attempted to achieve cooperation by forming Council Of Australian Governments (COAG) but Premiers continued to be difficult at times, PM Morrison changed COAG to the National Leaders Cabinet but it appears that the Premiers continue to act independently more often than not.

PM Morrison is often misquoted and even smeared by the leftists, as was PM Abbott commencing from when he was Opposition Leader from 2009. I will post a link that I found useful despite being wary of the source newspaper.

A reminder from over a year ago that Australia’s “intelligence” agencies mocked US claims of the laboratory origins of the CCP virus.

It seems Australian intelligence gets its information from The People’s Daily.

Australian intelligence knocks back US government’s Wuhan lab virus claim

By Anthony Galloway and Eryk Bagshaw
    May 4, 2020 — 7.30pm

Australian intelligence agencies have questioned evidence trumpeted by United States officials supposedly linking the coronavirus to a Wuhan laboratory as concerns within the government grow that the push will derail efforts to eliminate dangerous wildlife wet markets.

Senior members of the Australian intelligence community told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age a research document shared in political circles under the Five Eyes intelligence arrangement was mostly based on news reports and contained no material from intelligence gathering.

A 15-page “dossier” has been widely quoted by local and international media about China’s alleged cover-up of the virus. Australian intelligence officials have since identified a research report which was based entirely on open source material. The officials said it was likely the reports were the same.

United States secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed on Sunday there is “enormous evidence” the coronavirus outbreak originated in the Chinese laboratory but did not provide any facts to back up his assertion. Mr Pompeo also said he agreed that the virus was not man-made.

Multiple senior intelligence sources who spoke to The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in recent days have confirmed Australia has still not been provided with any evidence that strongly suggests the Wuhan Institute of Virology was the source of the outbreak. Intelligence agencies have not been able to rule out the Wuhan lab, but the more likely cause of the virus is still the city’s Huanan Seafood Market where environmental samples of the virus were found.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday the Australian government did not have strong evidence linking the Wuhan lab to the virus.

“There’s nothing that we have that would indicate that was the likely source,” Mr Morrison said.

Senior members of the Morrison government are concerned the promotion of the theory is hampering efforts by Australia to pursue an independent coronavirus inquiry and its push to permanently end the sale of exotic wildlife in Chinese wet markets.

China announced a ban on exotic wildlife meat at the peak of the local outbreak in February but it has not eliminated the sale of animals for medicinal use. Chinese state media reacted furiously to the Wuhan lab Five Eyes claims published by News Corp Australia on Saturday, accusing it of perpetuating a US campaign led by Steve Bannon.

In a series of comments last week, Mr Bannon, a former executive chairman of far-right website Breitbart and advisor to President Donald Trump, said China had to be held accountable for a “biological Chernobyl” and accused the Wuhan lab of premeditated murder.

Describing Mr Bannon as the “living fossil of the cold war,” the Communist mouthpiece, People’s Daily said the Trump administration was engaging in “unprecedented propaganda warfare” while trying to impede global efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Li Haidong, a professor at the Institute of International Relations of the China Foreign Affairs University, said media allegations could further exacerbate rising political tensions.

“Some Australian media and political elites have lost their independent judgment of the country’s overall interests and have adopted a US-led approach to smearing China over COVID-19,” he told Beijing’s Global Times.

There was also widespread concern within the government about Victorian Liberal senator Sarah Henderson’s comments in News Corp papers on Monday that called for all virus research by foreign scientists in Australian laboratories to stop until a safety and national security review was done.

Talking points distributed by the Prime Minister’s office on Monday morning reminded Coalition MPs that the CSIRO undertakes due diligence before entering into research partnerships.

Senator Henderson was commenting on reports that the CSIRO’s bio-containment facility in Geelong has been undertaking research jointly funded by the Australian and Chinese governments.

CSIRO released a statement confirming it had no current joint research with the Wuhan Institute of Virology and said it undertook all research in accordance with strict biosecurity and legislative requirements, which took security concerns into account.

Liberal MP Dave Sharma, who has been vocal in his calls for the global review, told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age he was not aware of any security concerns with CSIRO’s research.

“Scientific research cooperation and collaboration on zoonotic diseases with scientists from China and elsewhere is valuable, and important to help us better understand the nature of these diseases,” he said.

On the other hand the far-left Greens are communist which is the reason for informed people calling them “watermelons”, green outside but red in the centre.

A few years ago our former Treasurer Peter Costello returned from an overseas trip and was interviewed by a journalist from The Australian newspaper, Costello mentioned meeting a German citizen who was a former Foreign Affairs Minister for Germany and a Green. While not being prepared to divulge the full contents of their conversation Costello said the German had described Australian Greens as being far to the left of the original and present European Greens.

It is always about the numbers, meaning how many MPs a PM can rely on in the Legislative Assembly and the Senate, and right now PM Morrison has a slim majority in the Lower House only.

And next are the party factions of supporters and political opponents, in this case the LINO Left (Liberals In Name Only) that were the Turnbull Party in Government who probably oppose PM Morrison more often than not.

Headquarters is another problem, unelected officials who manage party affairs and manipulate behind the scenes.

Labor is not much different with Union Movement controllers and more factions than the Lib-Nats have.

And worryingly, both sides appear to have more far left leaning MPs than centre to centre-right or centre-left.

I will be surprised if the CSIRO survives much longer, in its present form. It long ago drifted from its supposed mission, or at least the purpose that most citizens would have expected. Its ‘glory days’ are long gone and it is now simply another leftist-dominated employment scheme, doubling as a mouthpiece for all the left’s causes du jour and conducting pretty underwhelming research of little note internationally.

The CSIRO does not work for us and is no longer funded by us. Tony Abbot stopped the funding because the CSIRO is a lab for hire and will work for whoever has the dough. They make money by doing research for specific companies and then they register the patent and collect ongoing royalties when their efforts are sold on the open market .

They made many millions when they invented wi-fi for an American company, albeit they had to take the company to court in America to collect their share.

According to their 2019-20 Annual Report, CSIRO received direct government funding of $208.8 million, plus revenue from government of $837.9 million. That’s just the obvious taxpayer funds they’re getting. I bet that many of their other sources are, at root, funded by the taxpayer. The operating loss of $7 million looks like the usual angling for a bit more funding from the minister.

You’re right that they don’t work for us, but we ARE paying for them.

What? The CSIRO isn’t funded by us? Where did you get that?

In their 2019-20 annual report, CSIRO lists almost $838 million in “revenue from Government”. This money is commonly referred to as ‘appropriations’.

That’s uncomfortably close to a BILLION DOLLARS and, additional to that, the CSIRO secures funds from other sources including the private sector.

I’m not going to call them geniuses. But they do have a target, a plan, and the fortitude to see it through. This is what scares us the most.

They steal and plagiarize all their inventions; and most of the time those inventions fail often and fail dramatically. I think their battle ships and tanks will stall and sink as often as they succeed. But they win with sheer numbers.

As for their tactics. I’m not convinced they’re even following Sun Tzu. They are playing a tactical game at the moment. Weakening the western world via bribery and extortion. So far it’s working a treat.

When they strike Taiwan, it might just turn things around. They’ll be at the point of no return. We’ll see what happens after that. I’m not prepared to make a bet either way for the West.

Australia is a once-great nation that is now governed by people who know nothing and produce nothing.

When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – You may know that your society is doomed.

    40

    • #

Check Nextstrain. (Mouseover the dots for details).

What does it mean to “isolate the virus” if it does not mean to fully sequence the 29,000 base code, which we have done hundreds of times in hundreds of labs in every continent?

As for cause and effect, when these people have that particular 29,000 base code of RNA they have a much higher hospitalization rate (14% in Victoria last August) and death rate in the next month, and they get a specific set of symptoms and the people around them have a smaller but significant rate of all those same things.

So the test has great predictive usefulness. And while some labs may abuse it, it would take a remarkable conspiracy to fake all those results with thousands of players for 18 months.

Influenza cases in Western Australia since June last year = 0.

Viruswatch has the details. There are 500 – 700 tests for flu every week, yet they find none. The two week quarantine and hard borders have stopped it getting in. That is what we would expect from our knowledge of incubation rates, yet it is also remarkable. The poor and those who can’t travel overseas can thank international holiday makers for bringing in influenza each year.

I’ve often mentioned that Maths has just jumped out the window in recent times, and now it seems that Logic just followed Maths out the same window.

Joanne writes where Matt Canavan said this: (my bolding here)

Under questioning from Nationals senator Matt Canavan on June 3, the CSIRO initially gave evidence that it “does not undertake research on live bats at ACDP”. However, Senator Canavan later presented the CSIRO with an excerpt from a scientific paper written in conjunction with the Wuhan lab stating: “Wild caught P Alecto bats were trapped in Southern Queensland, Australia, and transported alive by air to the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Victoria, where they were euthanised for dissection.

Logic – As early as 1994 when a horse (patient Zero) from country farm was brought into the stables of Vic Rail in Brisbane and died mysteriously, infecting and killing the other horses and Vic as well, they traced it back to bats. It was investigated and four mainland bats were put under the microscope.

    Hendra Virus.

It only stands to reason that, umm, Institutions also researched it as well, and umm, there was ‘all of a sudden’ another avenue for research grants.

“Say, what say we also look at other bat borne viruses as well, and you know, there might be a correlation.”

    Lyssa virus and Marburg virus.

Other Institutions then also joined in, all ostensibly innocent in nature, you know, SCIENCE and all that.

And now we have this bat borne disease, and another phone call or two.

“Shh! Don’t tell anyone we’re investigating bats, or anything somehow related in any manner with anything like this.”

    And say notice something here.

Lyssa Virus, Marburg Virus, Hendra Virus. All of these are the EXACT names of them.

Now that the WHO answers to its Chinese string pullers, all of a sudden it’s COVID-19, or the Delta variant or Theta or whatever comes next, and not the Wuhan CCP Virus.

There seems to be a new word for ….. ‘Logic’ these days ….. c0n$plr@cy the0ry.

All in the name of Science, but please, don’t tell a single soul.

    Tony.

      Information worth having.

Please note that this person has an investment coal fired power station but is also invested in a company planning to install EV recharging stations in various areas and importing (possibly assembling here later) China made EV he claims will retail for $35K and have a 1,000 km range.

Australia’s coal electricity supply to ‘possibly half’ in 20 years time
      24/06/2021|9min
Businessman and energy sector expert Trevor St Baker says Australia’s electricity will go from “around 70 per cent” sourced from coal to “possibly half” of that in two decades time. “On any assumption at all, Australia, which doesn’t have nuclear or lots of hydro, will go from about 70 per cent of our electricity from coal at the moment to possibly half of that in two decades time,” he told Sky News Alan Jones. “And that will come from all of the coal fired stations staying open and backing back to wind and solar when they’re there.”

      I’m with ya Tony.
So Queensland’s low Covid infections and deaths are not due to draconian State Gov border control and restrictions after all.
More likely that most Queenslanders are constantly exposed to bats who just love the backyard mango trees throughout the State.
Low level exposure to these critters (and the thousands of virus they harbor) clearly improves human immune systems.
They were probably studying this phenomenon at CSIRO and UQ and in conjunction with the China lab.
But it’s all secret science business …

Listen, this is not particularly related to this topic, but I would like to get in early and mention this now, with respect to Queensland.

With all the draconian measures going around right now, I, umm, wonder about what might happen on Monday morning.

I can see that woman who runs Queensland now, and her offsider, that Palaszczuk woman, holding a press conference on Monday morning announcing new measures here in Queensland, you know, slamming shut the borders, mandatory QCodes for EVERYWHERE, the reintroduction of masks and the shutting down of the State.

She’s done it before, and with less background than the current situation.

        Why Monday?

You know ….. AFTER the State Of Origin game on Sunday night.

Can’t have ANYTHING disrupting that and the dollars to made from it.

The NSW team comes in for the game, plays, goes to the hotel, and then flies home.

All out of the way by Monday morning.

Could you even BEGIN to imagine what might happen if they did that before the game.

I bet there’ll be no appearance by beloved dear Leader on the podium after the game for speeches and all that. Imagine if she was booed.

        Can’t have that.

I could be wrong, but I just have this hunch.

Oh, and the STATE has called in the debt collectors. More than HALF of the many many millions imposed in fines has not been paid, in fact closer to three quarters or more. Real criminals get off easier than those deemed worthy of being fined for this.

        Please pardon my cynicism.

        Tony.

From my own experience dealing with CSIRO, I can say that it has become an organisation of imported personnel with qualifications that serve no interest to Australia. Rather a self-serving and business off spin creating based on public funding.
    Their conduct is as follows:

Do not want to engage in NDA with a local firm that offer breakthroughs in science “because they are the CSIRO”. One particular project was self-funded over many years in value of $2.8 million. For CSIRO to get engaged the project is completely dismissed and would cost $300 to $500 million over 5 years for CSIRO to take full control. This completely isolated origins of innovation as well as the science. Few months following this one of their so called scientists was caught trying break into the garage where the prototype was held. He was given a gift of fist.

Following years of observations of news put out by the media every CSIRO breakthrough was a cry for funding on weak foundations and it still is. Within 5 years….. blah blah…

I do believe that CSIRO needs a good clean-up and it needs to be controlled to act in national interest. It needs to be a support mechanism for local talent and there is no shortage of talent in Australia. This will as it should have been a development of technologies and sciences with Australian flavour for the local and world stage.

Because they do not act in national interest, we see many good innovations going overseas. They have allowed the same to happen with Wi-Fi to then claw back substandard reward for what could have been a major winner for Australia. Sure we have pride to say it was an Australian innovation. Good enough for a pub conversation.

Development of herpes virus to kill off “introduced” invasive carp population in Australian river systems. Really? To single out one biological form among hundreds of others. What could possibly go wrong? This crap has to stop.

CSIRO has zero respect from me and even less respect is given to several other university establishments.
Australians can offer so much more to the world stage but the filtration put in place are blocking.

More science and breakthrough technologies happen in humble tin sheds of Australia than at CSIRO. Those sheds need upgrading to double door establishments. One door for local jobs and one door for export value.

We live in time where everyone wants ownership but no one wants accountability. From what I can see this has developed a culture where we turn the blind eye to the consequences and become reactive rather that proactive. Hello to high cost of living.

Easy money don’t make legends but consequences of such make headlines. Yeah let us survive on that.

We are a nation, smart and dumb all at the same time.
    Fair go anyone?

Author Hume E Field has published more than 20 formal papers on virology.
Knowledge of the existence of a secure CSIRO lab at Geelong has been in the public domain for some years. It was mentioned re Hendra virus in horses, for example, around 2011 IIRC.
Like many others who retain the property of curiousity, why has there been no public ststement about the work of this Geelong lab, in order for truth and open discourse to have a chnace to inform the public (who fund the work) better than by silence, obfuscation and suppression of truth? So it’s OK to be involved in the development of very dangerous bioweapons but not OK to have nukes for self defence purposes. Hmmm. Logic appears to be completely absent in certain Australian institutions.

For a few years there was a company called Windlab, a global renewable energy development company. It was established to commercialise world leading atmospheric modelling and wind energy assessment technology, developed by Australia’s premier scientific research institute, the CSIRO, and was listed on the ASX and Shanghai Stock Exchange. As far as I could see, the initial listing price was $2. Over a couple of years the share price mostly went down and when it was at about $0.80, an offer was made to buy the shares for $1.00. The CEO at the time said that the $1 offer was a good price compared to the ASX price at the time of $0.80.

Twiggy picked it up at a bargain price.

‘ASX-listed wind farm operator and developer Windlab is set to recommend a $1 a share takeover bid from a consortium that includes Andrew Forrest’s Squadron Energy.

‘Street Talk understands the consortium, spearheaded by Sydney-based fund manager Federation Asset Management and including Forrest’s Squadron, has firmed up its $1 a share takeover offer after a round of due diligence.’ (AFR)

CSIRO used to have an outstanding reputation but then they went “woke”.

Their commitment to the anthropogenic global warming fraud was particularly damaging and now we learn about their involvement in the WuFlu lab, if not the WuFlu itself.

      “but then they went “woke””

Seemed to start happening around the time they put a bureaucrat in charge rather than a scientist that came up through the ranks.

      ie… They became “political”

It is clear that the CSIRO has been collaborating with the Wuhan Lab to study wild bat coronavirus.
The CSIRO bat studies from Qld were probably in response to the tragic death of a Vet and staff and horses due to Lyssa Virus, a bat transmitted disease.
As such they are honorable and expected.
The difficulty with this new Covid 19 and its variants is that it had altered on a gene strand in four loci.
The argument is that this alteration has never been found in naturally occurring bat coronaviruses.
So therefore it must have been spliced in.
If this were done it must have happened in the Wuhan Lab.
One joins the dots: outbreak in Wuhan: altered virus:looks like it was spliced in, must have escaped from the lab.
The above Nature Communications input, from a a lower threshold publication, has this to offer
’77, we may not rule out that some bat-CoV variants remained undetected. Using deep sequencing techniques would allow to detect this unknown and highly divergent diversity.’
Note the Chinese to English transliteration.
This is like saying that the Covid 19 is just a variation based upon the existing coronavirus bat genetic pool, it just is that no one yet has shown this to be true.
Send more money and we will tell you.
The skeptic in me asks the question.
Is this the cover story aka ‘well we really don’t know where it came from because we have yet to do the basic research’?
    Could the message go out
    ‘The Fix is In’
This from the lead authors, including Australian, who should know the answers.
Now the way around this is for China to release the data which they have hidden, that may contain the answer, as to the derivation of this virus.
These lead authors need only to petition the Chinese Government to do so.
The authors probably have plenty of data stored on their hard drives or in the cloud.
In the meanwhile we need the equivalent of an International Coronial enquiry into the origins and spread of this virus.
A good start, is to have a coronial enquiry right here and
have our and overseas boffins give evidence and data under oath.
    We have much to learn.
We Aussies are getting the heat from China anyway, so what is there to lose.
We have lost too many. The aged and infirm. The most vulnerable.
We cannot be refused the truth, or the mistakes will be made again.

Somehow the CSIRO found the funding (=money) to study bats and viruses in cooperation with the Wuhan Institute.

The bad part is the denial, it is another question whether this was a valid use of resources.

Such research is against a background of a widespread lack of investigation into the effectiveness and safety of anti-viral medications with a long history of use but are out-of-patent.

Private companies are not expected to pay for research for which there would be no financial return. But surely, is this not a good example of a government agency going after money, international travel and publicity rather than doing the research they are set up to do and for which there is potential for great public benefit?

“The Real Cost of Wind and Solar”

    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/06/25/the-real-cost-of-wind-and-solar/

Check the assumption for solar in “the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) 2021 report entitled Levelized Costs of New Generation Resources.”

“4Technology is assumed to be photovoltaic (PV) with single-axis tracking. The solar hybrid system is a single-axis PV system coupled with a four-hour battery storage system.”

    Not news.
Back in 2010 or so I worked on FEED for a triple set of dual 50 MW P&W NG CT’s near Anaconda, MT.
They were being planned to cope with the wind variability.
Btw the LCOE analysis is chock full of assumptions, uncertainties and what the client wants to see.

      And more on that

      “Rud Istvan

I went to EIA.gov and checked the 2021 source document. Nothing has changed from the ‘True Cost of Wind’ analysis posted over at Judith’s in 2015. The tip-off is sentence 1 on page 6. The cost recovery period is 30 years for all types. This is simply wrong. The warrantied life of GE CCGT is 40 years; actual life is longer. The unwarrantied life of large wind turbines is at most 20 years owing to axial bearing wear from uneven loading (windspeeds are higher aloft).

So not only are the EIA capacity factors far too high, and the costs of intermittent backup ignored, they don’t even recognize these very different economic lifetimes in their calculations. Shorter than 30 years raises the capital component of LCOE, by about 30/20 1.5x (not the correct annuity calculation, just illustrative), while longer than 30 lowers it—for CCGT by about 1-(30/40) 25%.

The much cited EIA LCOE numbers were and remain deliberately misleading. In the 2015 deconstruction posted at Judith’s, CCGT true LCOE was about $58/MWh while onshore wind was $146/MWh. EIA claimed they were comparable at about $90 each.”

Welcome to the new “Planned Obsolescence Real Capitalism” of the 21st Century. I am totally in awe of what the populace will accept as truth. Where do they think solar panels, wind turbines, batteries and electric cars are coming from? THIN AIR? I blame the Devil Incarnate, Al Gore. This piece of trash lies about AGW, sells his US Cable Network to an oil producer (Qatar) and subsequently gets involved with “renewable energy” companies in order to get in at the start and make huge profits. And the Gordon Gekkoes follow suit…what a joke.
