Backlash: Cancel culture boycott *increases* audience for GB News in the UK

The Media is the problem. Magnifying Glass.GB News has only been running for 10 weeks in the UK but it has already been targeted by a campaign to boycott the advertisers.

However the boycott was twice as likely to get people to tune in.

This is how it works. Once the Virtue Signallers have overdone the bullying and the crowd knows it  — the bullying itself works like a signpost.. By definition, the forbidden material will always be the most interesting. The politically incorrect shows are the most entertaining.

GB News joy as campaign to boycott advertisers has actually BOOSTED channel

Express.co.uk

While those wishing to boycott GB News may take brands removing their adverts as a win – a recent survey found it may have actually given the channel a boost.

A poll of 1,000 people conducted by CT Group, commissioned by GB News, gave the statement “consumer goods brands should not adopt overt political views”.

Of those polled, 57 percent agreed that brands shouldn’t take on “overt political beliefs”. And only 15 percent disagreed with the statement. When those surveyed were asked if an advertiser boycott made people more likely to tune into the news network, 29 percent confirmed it would.

People are refusing to pay the BBC license too.

‘Clock is ticking’ BBC funding crisis as viewers ‘no longer willing to pay licence fee’

Express.co.uk

The Minister for Media and Data has reported a “decline in willingness to pay the licence fee” of the BBC. Mr Whittingdale continued: “The second is in the longer term the decline in willingness to pay the BBC’s licence fee. “So I think this debate about how we sustain public service broadcasting is only just beginning.”

BBC. Greenpeace. Journalism. Media. Propaganda. Jo Nova. This is both good and bad. It’s good that the BBC is feeling the squeeze, but ultimately it’s bad that the price signals are knocking on the door, and no one is listening. People wouldn’t be tuning out if the BBC was not such a humorless preaching bore.

In a normal world, the BBC ought to care that people are leaving and want to give them what they want to get them back. Instead  the BBC will no doubt beg the government for more money while it beats them over the head for not being leftist enough, and the government will give it cash. In the process the Deep State gatekeepers will become more entrenched.

Meanwhile: In Australia, people might want to know about this petition calling for an ombudsman for the ABC. I’d rather sell it myself, but it’s good to see any kind of protest.

    Morning Jo,
    O. M. G.! … Who knew? … Socialism is a great theory!
    But only that, a theory!
Unless & until the theory is perfected (or close to), they can try 100 times to introduce it, & it will fail each & every time.
Just as Abraham Lincoln (most likely) said; “You can fool some of the people all the time, or all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time”.
(Or as Churchill said; “The only problem with socialism/communism is, sooner or later you run out of other people’s money”!)
Boris only just reversed his suicidal mandatory gas boiler decision in time, but he still has quite a lot of other retrograde policies to reverse before he’s “out of the Red Zone” for the next election.
    – Oh, and all these clinical “T. D. S.” sufferers in the U. S. A. should be really proud of themselves, esp. the last week.
One of the biggest problems with the “2020’s”, is the Depression & Russian/Chinese communist purges are now verging on “too long ago to be in the conscious memory of most voting-age adults.
Hopefully the next few years we’ll see a long-overdue improve of people’s “Common Sense at the ballot-box”, starting of course at the federal election (within the next 10 months).
Warm regards, Reformed Warmist of Logan.

Unfortunatley I think the ballot box in Australia has meant little over at least the last decade. I think they are pretty much all deep state plants and or owned by the powers that be.THEY seem to replace PMs we put in with someone they own, with the help of ABC.

That is true, especially given how we use the stupid preferential voting system that hardly no other country uses. It dilutes the democratic process as some people will vote for one party only to end up supporting another party they don’t like or even detest. Sure, people can not follow the instructions on the papers they hand out and vote according to their own pattern but I suspect most are too lazy and just follow the instructions handed out to them and leave the rest to the party they place first to decide where their preferences end up going. Anyway, it matters not as both major parties are “in it together” to wreck this nation by sticking to the same policy of emissions reduction. I’m hoping for a hung parliament to allow some of the minor parties to hold the government formed to account and force the ruling party to drop the emissions reduction insanity.

          Greetings PeterS,
Whilst on the surface I agree with you … both that preferential is woeful, & that the net result of the last 5 years or so (since Turnbull’s turning of the knife) have been more virtue-signalling than much else … please don’t wish another “Gillard-like” “traffic-light-coalition” on us!! – At least not for another decade + !!!

            Greetings.
Yes there is the risk of that happening but so what? It’s not different to now. I see no problem seeing it work the opposite way and the minority parties that would end up joining the minority governments actually support coal fired power. It’s our only option. Anything else is business as usual for the destruction of our nation.

I think preferential voting is potentially great democracy. It enables citizens to express their concerns and still avoid socialism.
How to vote is the problem. Nobody should be allowed to request anything but a 1 vote.
Posters and volunteers should not be allowed near polling booths.
The uninformed would largely become discarded informal.
Citizenship courses are a necessary but a misused concept. Knowing popular Australian history is not important.
Knowing our political systems is vital including how to vote legally, separation of powers, roles of upper lower houses and resonsibility of State, Federal and Local government.
Why we have a Senate and the rolls of states in the US of Australia.
As a Westminister model our senate should be a house of review. That is first review pass or suggest ammendments. Second review same as first review knowing that the third presentation has to be passed to a non political GG to become law. The house of lords cannot refuse a third presentation and the government governs.
Our senate is supposed to protect the senator’s state. It is undemocratic for the senate to vote on partisan lines.
Any senator that barters for votes should be dismissed. Any bill should be addressed on its merits. To bargain about I’ll vote for that if you vote for this is improper behaviour by both the proposer and the bribed. It is treason in a free country where bills should be considered on their merit.

It would be great if non-leftists would stop hyping the ABC as being important.

Since 1993 there have been 9 federal elections, 8 of which were won by the Coalition despite the fervent non-stop barracking of the ABC for Labor. Does this tell you ANYTHING at all about their “influence”?

Ignore what the ABC says or does, and simply fight to get it privatized or closed down. do not give it any credit whatsoever, as it has none.

Have a look at any gathering of the Friends of The ABC: aged hippies, and senile fans of two blokes dressed in banana suits wearing pyjamas. FFS, IGNORE them!

” Who knew? … Socialism is a great theory!
      But only that, a theory!”

It’s been tried, and FAILED for a LONG time. ALWAYS accompanied by murder, imprisonment and general opression.

The PUREST establishment thus far seen was instituted in Cambodia 1975-1979.

Socialism is a DEATH CULT. Nothing more.

It is very good at the unequal sharing of “hardship”. In practice, that is it’s KEY feature and the one that attracts people to it.

      As Winston Churchill put it:

“We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”
“Some see private enterprise as a predatory target to be shot, others as a cow to be milked, but few are those who see it as a sturdy horse pulling the wagon.”

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, a creed of ignorance, and a gospel of envy. Its only inherent virtue, the equal sharing of misery.”

And I guarantee that the equal sharing of ANYTHING, including misery, is only in the propaganda aimed at the peasantry, NOT in the reality of the lives of the Nomenklatura and the Kulaks.

    Streisand Effect

The Streisand effect is a social phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of further publicizing that information, often via the Internet. It is named after American entertainer Barbra Streisand, whose attempt to suppress the California Coastal Records Project’s photograph of her residence in Malibu, California, taken to document California coastal erosion, inadvertently drew further attention to it in 2003.

Could someone please explain why we have an ABC? It is nearly a hundred years old, but I still have no idea why it exists? Doesn’t anyone ask?

The justification for Al Grassby’s Multicultural SBS vanished when satellite dishes appeared in backyards in the last century, long before the internet.

So $30 million a week of our hard earned money for what reason? Please? I have never understood why it exists, what is it’s purpose and whether it is still needed or ever was?

And why isn’t everyone in the ABC, Police force, Judiciary apologising for the persecution, trial and jailing in solitary of Cardinal George Pell? It’s as if it didn’t happpen? Where’s the apology from the ABC? Where’s the talk of compensation? Or is he still guilty of a crime which could not have happened, a crime without evidence and persecution fully funded by the taxpayer and for which no one is responsible and besides, they all know he is really guilty. And Milligan has a Golden Quill for her excellent work in jailing an innocent man. Why isn’t she handing it back? And why are we paying more millions to defend her?

Can we all opt out at least? I am so sick of paying for a massive group of arrogant self people on our cash. And I have no way of stopping it. Just shut them down. Turn off the money. Everyone else is out of work, why not the ABC? Where will they all go on their well earned holidays this year?

Never in the history of broadcasting have so many given so little for so much cash from everybody else. Even the BBC is accountable. Not Their ABC. Opinion presented as fact. Woke, Climate Change, Sorry, BLM, hectoring, burning gum leaves, posers. Utterly out of control. Even politicians are accountable and no conservative politician will step foot inside Their ABC.

Just turn it off. All of it. We need fruit pickers.

      TdeF:

Whenever anyone dares to suggest the ABC should lose government taxpayers money they resort to their old (and best) defence, claiming that Peppa Pig will go. I must admit I am one of the few who apparently have never watched that show, so cannot really argue whether it is needed or not, but I guess that it appeals to young minds and mothers grateful for moments of rest. Indeed sticking the kids in front of the TV might allow time for a cuppa.
So if the ABC is to be defunded, I suggest that it be broken up into bits as multiple subscription services. Thus Children’s shows, Country programs (and garden shows with the talking bush), News and Politics suggest themselves as does BBC repeats. Do they still do Sport? Each of these could be assigned one of the multiple TV and/or radio channels used by the current ABC.
A subscription rate of $29 a year (8¢ a day – although it is really 13¢) for each channel, shouldn’t be beyond all (esp. those inner-city low fat soya latté drinkers who think they need the ABC) would bring in far more money for the ABC PROVIDED their audience is as great as they like to claim. In practice they will have to trim their views to maintain numbers.
For the Federal Govt. it would be painless euthanasia. No-one except Friends of the ABC (who most likely don’t support the Govt. anyway) could object.

      290

      • #

That is the classic Peppa Pig defence. There are two fallacies.

Firstly the ABC has nothing to do with Peppa Pig. Peppa Pig would exist without them.

Second. They simply outbid the commercial channels with buckets of our cash so that they secure access to programs like this, to make themselves essential viewing, at least for children. So it is extortion funded by us and forcing up all our costs. There is no accountability because there is no mechanism for accountability.

Ita Buttrose does not run the ABC. Managing Director David Anderson either lied about his dropping numbers (the ABC actually added 200+ people) or he has no idea. He is the Joe Biden of the ABC. No one dares challenge the ABC collective. They saw what happened to Cardinal Pell. Convicted of sexual assault on someone who was dead and denied it when he was alive and without any witnesses except the accuser. It shows what happens to anyone who crosses the Collective who have infinite money for lawyers. Our money.

It is simply the richest, most self indulgent, utterly opinionated group of lazy self appointed experts in the world running a massive sheltered workshop. And they indulge themselves in political and personal attacks on their group enemies, conservative and Catholics. According to the ABC, Sydney Harbour bridge is already under water and if it isn’t, it’s just lucky and not to be mentioned.

This has to end. You can turn it off. You can block it out. But they still live in your wallet.

          TdeF:
Under the existing model they collect money from the taxpayer regardless of whether they appeal to the public or not.
My point was that the ABC are well aware that they aren’t overwhelmingly popular, but will not change unless forced to do so, and with a series of Governments unable to enforce their supposed neutrality and still giving them money, why will they?

A subscription existence would force the ABC to appeal to viewers, and by splitting the “service” into parts would focus their attention. It would also enable people to select what parts of the service they think necessary, thus avoiding any backlash from the public. That might be enough reason for the Government to act.

Is SBS still relevant in the 21st century? Probably not, here are some figures ….

‘The level of contributed equity by Government remained constant at $110.403 million. SBS generated 30 per cent of its total operating revenue from the sale of goods and services in 2018-19.’

Its a hybrid model, which is undoubtedly the propaganda wing of the Klimatariat and deserves to be severely criticised.

Yes turning off the ABC by not watching is good. I’ve stopped watching it years ago. The trouble is it doesn’t literally turn it off since it still gets funding from us tax payers so that a lot of people still watch it. How stupid is that? Why should my taxes be used to keep feeding propaganda BS to others? So, it must either be shut down or sold off. I don’t care which.

I would like the ABC sold to. But if we actually do need some broadcasting done, I would have a group of 20 people chosen at random on 12 month terms to determine what we actually do need then I would put the delivery out to contract and any broadcaster can then fill the gap. I recon we could probably drop the ABC budget to 100 million or less. I know “tell me Im dreamin”

The SBS model of privatising the ABC is probably the best way forward, but politicians don’t have the stomach for it.

‘This, of course, represents a governance problem within the Liberal party itself. In 2018 the Liberal Federal Council voted to privatise the ABC – a policy position the government has chosen to ignore. If elected politicians are able to ignore their constituents, it should be no surprise that apparently independent government agencies do so too. It is not just the ABC that is out of touch.’ (AFR Davidson)

    I’d rather sell it myself,

Now that is a petition I would support.

Like the BBC, the ABC has proven itself obsolete. The difference is that the BBC has a dedicated link to funding so anyone wanting to avoid the BBC can withdraw their funding. My eldest son has been in the UK for 6 years. He does not own a television set and does not pay the BBC fee.

Actually an ombudsman will just add another layer of costs. Just more waste. So I cannot support the petition.

I will support a petition to privatise their ABC. ABC is obsolete. The organisation has not kept up with the times. It needs to earn its keep by offering something people are willing to pay for.

How do we start a petition to privatise their ABC. Let the ABC find out who wants them.

Fox News here in OZ is stronger and now have a channel on free to air because of the push from the rabid leftists to boycott their advertisers, the ABC should be defunded by half and the other half given to Fox News and then on every year which ever station gives the most impartial both sides of the argument news and views get the biggest share of the Billion dollar plus taxpayer funds.

Yes there is a push back against the leftists media happening throughout the West; that is clear. It will be interesting to see how the left react to it. They might be pushed further to the left, which ought to be good as that would be pushed over the edge into oblivion. The question then is where will that leave PM Morrison? Apart from having to wipe the eggs off his face, he will need to drop a lot of the leftist ideological BS, such as the emissions reduction and push towards closing down our coal fired power stations and replace them with renewables and batteries.

If you look back at the past 5 years, amongst a long the ABC tried to sell us the following facts
    – Hillary would win
    – The story of the century – that Trump used Russian collusion to win the 2016 election
    – Pell was guilty – even after he was aquitted
    – Shorten would win
    – The Barrier reef is dead
    – Hunter Binden’s laptop was a fake Russian plant
    – Morrison is a QANON supporter
    – The virus has natural origins
    – Renewables are cheaper
    – Christian Porter is a rapist
    – Australian troops are war criminals

Yet, yesterday, Jack the Insider wrote an article denigrating Ivermectin as horse drench. Again, I wrote a very nicely worded comment pointing out the active has human approval uses in Australia, that humans/animals share lots of pharmaceutical products and that the WHO regarded IVM as one of the essential medicines. The rejection of your comments might not be as sinister as you suspect if you consider the political pressure they are under at the moment from the likes of Turnbull & Rudd. They may not want to risk being accused of promoting something that is not 100% proven and thus leave themselves open for the standard lefty outrage attack. Remember, regardless of what we might think of the Murdock press, we know that it’s seen by the left as the biggest roadblock to their global green Marxism, which is why the likes of KRudd is in full-blown Marxist Mandarin expletive mode wherever they run a story that exposes their lies and hypocrisy. We need Murdock because he’s all we have to protect the free world right now.

l believe this has to do with the contracts the Government signed to get the jabs into the country
l have heard that in the contracts there is a clause that says “no other treatments”

the TGA has been trying to get Professor Thomas Borody with something because of the triple therapy treatment he came up with for treating covid with Ivermectin, Doxycycline and Zinc over twelve months ago,
the only thing they have been able to get him on is that he promoted a treatment for covid

Of SloMo’s numerous fence-sitting failures, which is about everything he does because he was Turnbull’s pick and is weak and clueless, appointing Ita Buttrose was among his numerous big failures.

Rational thinkers got excited when Buttrose was appointed chair of Their ABC as they thought she was also a rational thinker but one of her first pronouncements was that she could see no bias in the organisation.

Buttrose is a shocking failure as would be expected of anyone who is a puppet of Turnbull and Morrison and a very sad way to end her otherwise illustrious career.

In this country’s near future the government will need to trim the budget somehow. You would hope that halving the budget of the ABC might be one of the first suggestions. During COVID, the ABC have been a hindrance not a help. “Dr” Swan advice all over the place and treated god-like. Tried to demonise the AZ vaccine over the blood clot situation. Never critical of any Labor states with their lockdowns. But, regularly swipe at Libs NSW now during the Sydney lockdown. Yet, as you said. ScoMo just seems to ignore it.

In our household the major TV channel used is SBS Chill – which is music, so we only listen to it!! Free to air TV is mostly a joke these days. I’m forced to watch AFL finals on 7 because they have these exclusively. Its no wonder the poms don’t want to pay for a licence for the BBC. They probably already have Netflix, Prime, Disney and Apple TV. Thats what I have. The only regular show I watch is Outsiders on Sky every Sunday morning. Seriously, you could pull the plug on the ABC tomorrow and no-one would notice. Even in regional areas most people now have excellent access to everything online. My wife sometimes watches ABC Breakfast during her morning exercise sessions ( no ads ). They have pushed diversity to ridiculous extremes. A mix of male and female presenters – sure, that’s ok. But now have a gay weather presenter in addition to a trans and aboriginal journalist. Plus – wait for it. A bloke in a wheelchair who reports from Adelaide – every day, like Adelaide is the news capital of Australia.

Seriously, you could pull the plug on the ABC tomorrow and no-one would notice. Even in regional areas most people now have excellent access to everything online.

I’ve not experienced GB News or Talk Radio, so can’t comment on their positions.

But there are very large numbers of people (including conservatives, rural voters, and many other influential people) who would definitely notice. I’m one of those who believes Australia has been a far better place both culturally and informationally because of the existence of ABC TV & Radio, plus the SBS. I’m very happy they are government funded.

Any politician who advocated their privatisation or abolition would be crucified, in my view.

They are not anywhere near as sycophantic or pro-establishment as the BBC is – which I find extremely straight and quite conservative … I try to watch it sometimes, but it gives me the heebie-jeebies. Sky News UK is pretty straightforward and not particularly agenda-driven, but Sky News Australia is just a right-wing soapbox for angry white men who can’t get a gig on a major channel.

BTW – being advocates for solving Climate Change issues, or supporting government policies and actions on the pandemic – these are responsible balanced positions in the eyes of many average Australians. So are issues relating to culture, racism, sexism, and human rights. They are mainstream positions in modern Australia – not left / communist / socialist / Marxist.

LOL – you’re probably right … just making the point that CO2 Denialism (is that the right term?) does remain a fringe view, and Our ABC is not into supporting fringe views in general. They are the epitome of mainstream centralism, in the main.

And I listen to ABC Radio Melbourne fairly regularly – Virginia Trioli is generally excellent, but she shuts off contrarians ruthlessly on both Climate Change and Covid-19 “cures”. While I generally agree with her (being a good Chardonnay Socialist generally) – I dislike her censorship too.

          00

          • #

And you Tilba are a part of the cancel culture. You seek to silence people who disagree by calling them repeatedly by petty names that preclude their opinion being worthy of even being listened too, even though you have no answers to their points. (Because you have no answers).

This irrational behaviour raises the temperature of the discussion, adds no information or light at all, and is designed to censor people.

All your empty protests against Trioli’s censorship are worth nothing. You haven’t written to her to complain, and you join in the namecalling yourself.

If you continue to namecall “CO2 denialism”, which you can’t define or defend in a scientific way, your posts will not even be worth “target practice” for beginners. They are just predictable timewasters.

Well I did ask what what was the politically correct term on here. There are a lot of punters on here who believe that CO2 is not causing global warming, and even some extremists who believe that increased CO2 concentrations are a good thing. What to call such people?

In the broad spectrum of the “Global Warming Debate” (to the extent that there is a debate0 what should they be called, other than “Global Warming Deniers”. I really am willing to listen.

I’m not into cancel culture at all (not sure even what it means) – but I do think that decent debate requires a civilised approach. Ad homs and slurs don’t help.

Someone who denies the weather ever changes. They are a mythical unicorn beast you create — the strawman you battle so you can win without evidence or argument.

Is it ever worth talking to a denialist? They have the brain of a lizard. As long as you use namecalling and rely on ad homs we know you have no evidence for a civilized discussion.

Keep selling it Jo. Resistance from as many fronts as possible is ideal, but our conservative parties are as lame as the Tories on this issue.
What have we had, 13 of 20 years of Conservative governments? Still they criticise the far left bias and virtual signalling, still not one of those leaders has had the guts to strip back their funding, to reflect the majority elected conservative views that we want a balanced broadcaster.
It’s as if they are struggling with a moral dilemma; need to provide balance for the majority voter versus a small, but loud opposition of any reduction of funding represents silencing of critics which is abhorrent in a democracy!
They know full well that opposition argument is typical Marxist hypocrisy, but still we don’t have a leadership group with the spine to force the sanctimonious drivel peddlers into actually living the adversity they claim to represent.
The virtue signalling is sickening from as far back as claims for breaking the white male dominance from Tony Jones, Kerry O’ Brien, Barry Cassidy, Jon Faine, Richard Glover, David Speers, Hamish McDonald…….and a procession of other white men. They’re joined by diversity advocates like white women Ellen Fanning, Victoria Trioli, Jane Caro, Leigh Sales, Jodie Speers……..
The sneering sanctimonious parade of white men and women journalists paraded thru their news and current affairs proves the leftwing hypocrisy by their very presence and will be interesting when Labor finally takes power and cancel culture goes into full swing, because those virtue signallers on the periphery should be the first ones jettisoned for the cause, shouldn’t they?
Or can we actually be a country of merit, where our media is a fact based news presenter, interspersed with opinion by all sides which strengthens our society to being proud of who we evolve into, rather than a nation which hates itself, which the plethora of taxpayer ABC employees seem to vocally represent.

I remember Monday Conference on the ABC back in the 70’s. It was like Q&A except it really WAS a debate show. Guests would make their point and then opposing views would be put. Questions could be asked without being cut off with “I’ll take that as a comment” before throwing to the ‘comedian’ to derail the line of argument.

        30

        • #
          Simon B

You’ve hit the nail on the head with the insidious derailment of actual news in the world today, the decision to allow a ‘comedian’ to have the final word on a topic. Observational comedy can be entertaining, satire pilloried the absurdity, now a comedian is employed to deride, ridicule and character assassinate anything which opposes the leftwing narrative, to neatly add an easily quotable punchline of derision.
There’s no satire left in Australia, except for Shaun Micallef. He identifies absurdity across all boundaries. That’s balance.
The problem is the bait headlines, emotive language and conclusion at the end of simply telling you the temperature today! Every ‘reporter’ is a opinion writer now, with a twitter feed to fill!
The comedian on a news program though, is a clever tool for the lazy viewer. Its the visual version of trashmedia reports which have a bait headline and bullet point synopsis. Here’s what you need to take away, neatly wrapped up, for your time poor life! It’s appalling.

This is a price signal, but you seem to be confused about who the customer is, and which product is being purchased.

Every government in the history of humanity has valued propaganda, for the purpose of encouraging obedience, patriotism, and collective spirit amongst the population. Methods of achieving this have varied, but it includes bribing the state religion to preach that the King has a natural place in God’s order as ruler of the people. It could include sponsorship of the arts … the famous painting of Napoleon riding a white horse through the Brandenburg Gate into Berlin in 1806 while the clouds parted over his head, was a classic example. It has always involved gaining influence over the means of communication, by outright force, or money, or a mix of both.

The BBC is both the mouthpiece of big government, and advocate for the love of big government. The customers are not the people watching … they are the product.

GBNews (GBN) and talkRadio (tR) are competing for right of centre views against the rest of MSM. However, alternative views on the need for climate mitigation and the forms it should take have not been forthcoming on GBN who have tended to agree that climate change is real, is being caused by human beings and we need to be ‘greener’. The Station brings no refreshigly new ideas to the table.

The nonsense is that many of the presenters of and contributors to GBN are the very people with large carbon footprints much, much larger than those in low paid jobs who cannot afford to meet their energy bills and put food on the table during the warmer part of the year let alone the colder times. The hypocrisy of the ‘green generation’ stinks and even GBN are playing the same game as the rest because a few thrills here and there are not going to influence anyone other than those with a guilty conscience.

tR on the other hand have been refreshingly outspoken on climate and SARS-CoV-2 but seem to be struggling on the commercial side.

The BBC once filled the gap between left and right but has now become a very unpleasant and obnoxious corporation indeed and the soonest the license fee is scrapped the better IMO.

Looks like we won’t have to worry about what the MSM say and how we respond to them on-line. It appears a bill has been passed that allows the AFP to rewrite or delete what we say on-line. They decide if you are acting in a suspicious manner – in effect guilty before proven innocent. No warrant needed from a judge – just need one from a bureaucrat. But hey, we all knew this was going to happen. So, without notice if someone makes what is deemed is a suspicious comment on-line, the AFP can do whatever they like with that comment. That might be OK for now if they focus on the real criminals but who really trusts they won’t abuse this new power some time in the future? I certainly don’t trust them.

Can you elucidate for us what it is about the “woke” that you find so terrifying?

Mostly they’re just the centre-lefty cohorts that has always been with us – environmentalists, gay rights activists, Indigenous rights activists, Women’s Liberation, and so on. What is so scary about the fact that there is a significant percentage of the population who supports these movements and interests groups?

In fact all of them have become pretty-much the accepted reality, and they are all comfortably mainstream in modern Australia. Have you considered the possibility that your anti-woke extremism might actually be the fringe?

I don’t like the crazy left either – they give me the creeps. But I think it’s too easy to call “woke” – for opinions that the poster just disagrees with. And further – I think a lot of things called “woke” are pretty mainstream and supported by a lot of average, basically unpolitical Aussies.

I agree there are issues over what “the science” is – both climatologically and epidemiologically. These fields have been highly politicised, and a lot of data cherry-picking goes on, for sure.
