The US will not be able to meet the 2030 targets without this legislation (and all those subsidies)
After seven months of negotiations, and the big plan being rejected then shaved and sliced and diced, Senator Manchin has rejected all climate and energy rules. Inflation is to high and too painful…
Manchin pulls plug on Biden’s climate plan
The New York Times
WASHINGTON — Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, pulled the plug on Thursday on negotiations to salvage key pieces of President Biden’s agenda, informing his party’s leaders that he would not support funding for climate or energy programs…
Without action by Congress, it will be impossible to meet Mr. Biden’s goal of cutting U.S. emissions roughly in half by the end of this decade. That target was aimed at keeping the climate stable at about 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming compared to preindustrial levels.
“Political headlines are of no value to the millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas as inflation soars to 9.1 percent,” said Sam Runyon, a spokeswoman for Mr. Manchin….
Because Democrats hold the Senate by a bare 50-50 majority, Mr. Manchin has been able to effectively exercise veto power over the domestic policy package, which the party had planned to move under a special fast-track budget process that would allow it to bypass a filibuster and pass with a simple majority. With Democrats bracing for losses in midterm elections this fall, the package could be the party’s last chance to enact substantial spending and tax legislation while it still holds the White House and both houses of Congress.
Subsidies and boondoggles are also known as “federal investments”:
In rejecting any climate and energy provisions, Mr. Manchin appeared to have single-handedly shattered Mr. Biden’s ambitious climate agenda and what would have been the largest single federal investment in American history toward addressing the toll of climate change.
Here come the snowflakes:
…it was particularly devastating for those who had championed the climate and energy provisions. In calls to various climate activists on Thursday night, Mr. Schumer and his staff sounded shellshocked and said they believed until just a few hours before that a deal was still possible, said one person who spoke with Mr. Schumer.
Leah Stokes, a professor of environmental policy at the University of California Santa Barbara who has advised congressional Democrats on climate legislation, sobbed on Thursday night as she described the months of work she and other activists, scientists and legislative staff had poured into negotiations. “The stakes are so high,” she said. “It’s just infuriating that he is condemning our own children.”

As an American, it scares me that we’re protected from this disaster of Greenism by only one wavering vote.
Dang, our people can be stupid.
770
Yep, Donkey Pox remains the most serious threat to the nation.
570
You mean the Democrats?
180
Well it seems to have several known symptoms:
An inability to think critically.
An inability to do maths.
An inability to read graphs.
An inability to differentiate between millimeters, centimeters, and meters.
A sudden belief in magical thinking.
An inability to see any election fra*d.
Economic illiteracy.
A gloom and doom outlook.
A lack of compassion for those in energy poverty.
An hullucinogenic ability to see co2 in the air.
A pathological fear of co2.
Gullibility….
It seems to cut across all ages, but especially affects young adults. However, as the person ages and acquires more life experience it often goes into remission. In some severe cases it gets worse with age, however.
480
Dave, you seem to have summed it up perfectly!
(It’s a funny thing, but we seem to have a few of the same sort of people living in our inner-city-suburbia too!)
91
Love that new word ‘hullucinogenic’, since ‘hullu’ means ‘crazy’ in Finnish.
40
Not just democrats but most people who never bothered to do simple research to realize CO2 doesn’t have the ability to generate a climate emergency at all since the warm forcing level at 430 ppm level is negligible.
50
Good one!

As an Australian, it scares me more that there are probably only half a dozen politicians in either house of our federal parliament, and only a few others in all state parliaments who stand up against the climate policy lunacy.
680
Victorian opposition has announced a bigger better home solar grant if they win the next election. When they asked me to donate I declined citing no difference in climate change policy as just one reason. Why donate to change deck chairs, its still the bloody Titanic.
380
Vicdanistan Deputy Opposition leader says Comrade Dictator Dan isn’t doing enough about “climate change”.
Simply unbelievable.
The Liberals (pretend conservative party) don’t really want to get elected. It’s too hard and the few remaining present members have safe seats anyway.

That is a pessimistic way to look at the situation. Reality will ultimately shield you from the nonsense but in time. It does require that you take a pragmatic approach though. Take the opportunities as they present. Taking a government subsidy on offer makes sense if it offers you tangible benefit. View it is returning taxes to you.
Europe is currently getting a dose of reality.
Hybrid cars make economic sense now and in the future.
Just hope that reality prevails before China takes over the world.
Office workers are in a good position to work from home. Make home where there is space for trees to grow so you can harvest them for fuel. Energy costs are unlikely to go down even after reality prevails.
If you have a bit of land, it will always make sense to make your own electricity from solar than having it supply a grid. There is no economy of scale. The panels need to be optimised for the lowest sunlight month, probably October or November in northern latitudes. If you live at say 50N then your panels should be angled at 73 degrees to the horizontal. They need to be spaced at least twice their height so one does not shadow the other; 3.5X the height at 73 degrees on flat ground.
214
Bring energy costs down by:
-stop the cross-subsidization supporting high cost wind and solar
-stop interventions by domestic and foreign banks and insurers that hinder construction of coal power stations
-remove State government impediments to exploration for, and exploitation of, natural gas.
Destructive policies of governments are best removed by governments removing those policies. Retreat to living on large blocks will not reduce energy costs as it increases demand for Chinese made equipment. Green governments will (pretend to) protect the environment by banning use of timber even on your own property.
There is no law of nature whereby reality, whatever that is, brings optimal conditions for humans, even over time. Improvement requires human effort.
Cheers for US Senator Joe Manchin III for not being pragmatic by taking a bribe or succumbing to threats.
20
It is, no doubt. But my pessimism is hard-won, over decades. It keeps me more motivated than I would be if I optimistically figured that everything will work out okay in the end even without my input, so I’m pretty sure that pessimists do better in the evolutionary process. The optimists all die out waiting for improvement to happen. Pessimists gird their loins and . . . comment on the internet, I guess.

As an American, it scares me that we’re protected from this disaster of Greenism by only one wavering vote.
An alternative viewpoint of that one wavering vote
Cunning Senator Manchin Tricks West Virginia Voters, Senator Stalls $500 Billion Green New Deal Energy Legislation, Democrats Demand Removal from Chair of Energy Committee
Joe Manchin didn’t completely torpedo the $500 billion in Green New Deal climate change spending, but he did stall it for a month saying he would not support the climate change spending until he sees July’s inflation numbers in August, which should be a warning.
If you think carefully about it, it’s a classic Manchin head-fake. The July and August inflation numbers, to be released in August and September respectively, are almost guaranteed to be lower than June.
July/Aug are the two months we are in right now where inflation is hitting a plateau. Gasoline prices are dropping due to a drop in demand. This is the period before prices start rising again in September and October when the energy farming costs start to roll out with the next harvest.
Senator Manchin isn’t stupid; in fact, he is quite Machiavellian, he knows this… thus, his position.
Manchin can give the illusion of prudence, but he knows the July inflation rate will show a decrease for two reasons.
First, in the month-to-month comparison, July will not carry the same scale of gasoline and energy increases as June. Second, in the year-over-year comparison, July ’22 will be comparing to July 2021 when prices already started skyrocketing. Bottom line, July inflation will give the illusion of dropping, which gives Manchin a shield to support the spending…. and he will.
20
Coal is a large player in the Virginian economy. Machin clearly is a rationalist. The whining prof is not. Fortunately for us the stakes she believes in are just non-existent.
440
She is worried about children the Democrats seem hell bent on aborting. Machin is more worried about the children having a productive future with jobs and opportunities neither of which can be guaranteed with renewables.
340
Manchin is being a realist. Now is not the time to print and dump billions in the economy.
With 4 months to go to total wipeout, what is the point of promising to spend billions on the weather when the current inflation rate at 9.1% is the worst since the 1930s? It is not virtue signalling. It is fiscal and political idiocy, a socialist and Chinese dream to scuttle the American economy with President Biden currently in Saudi Arabia begging for Arab oil. Of course that it hotly denied. And he could always ask Russia or Venezuela. Or ask China to return some of the US strategic reserve sold to his son’s Chinese friends.
Even worse, there should be a real concern among Democrats that destroying energy self sufficiency and massive speculative spending on the future weather and rocketing inflation may hand the Republicans a 2/3 majority in the house! And that would allow repeal of any law with only the Presidential Veto to stop congress. And who knows, maybe the Red wave will allow that too and President Biden is a lame duck, apart from launching nuclear missiles at his enemies. After all, he did order the entire US army out of Afghanistan in a single night with no preparation whatsoever. And the press said nothing.
The current race to coal in the world would make West Virginia’s economy boom again. How can a senator elected in a Federation to protect State interests ignore the fact that booming coal would help his electors and that climate plans do not work. That’s his real job, representing West Virginia, not working for the extreme left socialists in the Democratic party. Labor and the Democrats used to be the workers’ party. No longer.
340
Right on Tdef, but Biden is only a puppet and one cannot help but wonder who the puppet masters are. Any thoughts . .
130
Yes, all his staff. Almost none of whom have had a real job, that is outside the public service or as a political apparatchik.
Biden is just a mouthpiece and not a very good one and he can barely read the teleprompter. Worse, everytime he expresses his own opinion his staff immediately ‘clarify’ it, which means he is officially contradicted.
It is almost getting sad. He has no idea where he is and when speaking in the hospital in Israel, he went off script and reminisced about his many difficult times in hospital and said his dead son should have been President, not himself.
And he says he is still surprised when he looks around for the President and he finds to his great surprise that he is the current President. He finds it hard to believe and says so. This is a man who is completely lost. And his emotions run wild and he gets old man angry and irrational too. Especially when his own staff repeatedly contradict him in public the moment he goes off their script. The sock puppet does not want to be a sock puppet any more. The leader of the Free world just wants to go home to the beach with his dog and his wife, not fist bump with people he detests. Or pretend he can ride a bike.
His total lack of interest in the job may mean he just goes home by Christmas, retires. Like Pope Bennedict and now Pope Frank. And the goose Cackling Kamala may be the new President reading the scripts from the President’s men, the extreme left.
200
Just to be clear, Manchin is from West Virginia – a whole different state, but definitely coal country. What’s most surprising to me is that with all the alarmist propaganda and media support, the alarmist have failed to get even 1 Republican senator’s support. There are actually 2 Democrat senators who are not on board – Sinema from Arizona in addition to Manchin. Apparently they’re to only two who have a clue about how the economy actually works. Neither will get elected again as Democrats though so likely to be “independents” if the future if no republicans.
210
Now wait for the deals to be done !
How much Federal briibery will it take to reverse that decision. ?
200
I don’t think Machin can be bought. He seems to be one of those rare politicians who put the needs of his constituents first and he also has that other rare virtue-principles.
220
Manchin is center ground. If he moved left he would lose support and lose his job.
40
I’d love to know how they propose to keep the climate stable. When they have done that, can they please set about delivering me the perfect weather that I wish to have?
320
Exactly. The perfect amount of CO2. The right amount of cloud cover. And no rain or snow, except when people agree. Snow on Christmas eve perhaps. Rain only at night and not on weekends including long weekends. Enough wind to keep the windmills turning, and the sails full but not enough to distress anyone. It does raise the question of what is the perfect weather. Let’s vote on it. And who cares about the cost? Factories and farms can go too. Yuckky places. We can buy what we want from China.
310
Then there the effects on other areas. Around January or February 2019 Townsville flooded, caused by climate change of course. I think that was when Bob Brown led his entourage to Queensland to protest about the coal mines causing climate change.
By about May – June 2019 the floodwaters from Townsville and further inland had reached Lake Eyre flodded for the first time in nearly 50 years. The ABC had a program about how wonderful it was, teeming with wildlife etc. No mention of climate change of course.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWy0P3b_c5s
So the question is, if climate change caused the flood in Townsville, did it also put the water in Lake Eyre? And if stopping climate change stops the floods in Townsville does it also stop the water reaching Lake Eyre.
220
In the past, long ago when I was young people accepted the weather for what it was ie it was natural and changed by the day. We took the good with the bad and got on with our lives. No one dreamed that we might be able influence the sun, or rain. Today in Australia, we call it the lucky country and expect perfect weather as some god given right. How foolish people have become.
Mind you I grew up in the UK and right now the uk government has declared a national emergency because of the prosoect of a couple of days that might reach 40degC. All part of the climate change lie . .

Manchin needs to hold out for just another 3 months or so. Close to the mid term election Donkey’s will panic, do something really dumb and them lose congress to the Republicans.
Climate deal…..game over for the next 50 years!
230
We on the other side are no strangers to the idea of overreaching and killing our chances right before elections, though. Every time someone says we’re going to crush in the mid-terms, I cringe.
260
Never underestimate the Republicans ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
260
Same here. The Coalition couldhave won the last election if they had fought for a few sensible and conservative values and policies; no Net Zero, more coal, defund the ABC and so on. As the old saying goes “no guts no glory”. Very true here considering the winning party receives 32% of the compulsory vote, the losing party picked up 36% but the dreaded Greens won 12% which tipped the scales for the socialists.
380
Morrison could have made a “statement” policy by withdrawing us from the Paris Accords as Trump did for his country. It would have saved Australia from economic ruination which is currently underway but is well on the way to a Venezuela-style situation.
All Australian Governments are at war against:
-Energy
-Agriculture
-Health (e.g. by not permitting doctors to treat people as they see appropriate for coronavirus).
-Education
-Family values
-Home owners
-Motorists
-Entrepreneurs
-Free speech
-Free markets
Etc..
240
They lost all credibility when they rolled over on the climate change issue.

As the saying goes ” elections have consequences and stolen elections have catastrophes”. Biden’s supporters are those who, like the socialists here, rely on other people’s money to stay afloat. When the money either runs out or becomes worthless they will wonder who will save them and it will not be the conservatives. Let them rot.
181
Oh! the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth by the believers (either in AGW or more likely in the money).
130
Wailing and a great gnashing, gnashing of teeth. Great stuff.
I remember Dave Allen with this line, pretending to be firebrand Protestant leader and rabble rouser Ian Paisley.

The people (Elites) behind these policies know exactly what they are doing – the destruction of the United States and the West in general- but it’s tragic that the “useful idiot” supporters and promoters of these policies are so scientifically illiterate that they believe you can control the temperature of the planet. That’s one of the reasons why there’s been a war against education and science in particular for decades now.
370
99.999% of these tree hugging useful idiots don’t even know that the plants and trees they hug in their photo shoots actually need C02 to survive, and use it to provide oxygen for animals to survive. I thought they loved trees and animals?
260
Indeed. The scientific illiteracy of the “useful idiots” is profound. I bet they have never even heard of the carbon cycle.
So too is the scientific illiteracy of “professional” so-called “scientists” on taxpayer funding; or those “businessmen” who are in the business of harvesting subsidies from taxpayers; both of whom promote similar garbage.
240
The CSIRO is a prime culprit never to be trusted again. In its Climate Change booklet it refers to the melting of the Franz Joseph glacier. Having been there in 2019 the melting started way before the modern “warm” period in the late 1800s and most of the loss occurred before 1960. Like the drowning of Pacific islands that instead grow we cannot believe anything published by a government funded scientist and I use that term advisedly.
311
CSIRO used to have an outstanding scientific reputation but not now among thinking people since they adopted the anthropogenic global warming fraud as core policy.
They should have done the scientific thing and asked questions, not done the political thing and become promoters of the propaganda.
270
I do not know about that outstanding reputation. 5,400 fully funded superannuated people is a lot of people for very little output. Where’s the motivation? Where are the patents? Where are the breakthrough ideas and products? $700,000,000 a year for what exactly? The few times I have gone there, it’s like a retirement home for science refugees struggling to come up with anything of real worth. Any success at all is serendipity and hardly cost effective. Where is the Industrial connection in the name? Zero. And they have to be added to the tens of thousands of scientists in Universities doing similar stuff on tenure. Australia is not shaking the world of science despite the billions in costs. And no one dares challenge CO2 driven global warming because they would lose their public service jobs.
170
TdeF:
It has nothing to do with AGW.
I knew a bloke in the early ’70s who “moonlighted” as a cleaner. He was assigned to the CSIRO labs.
As a qualified and experienced chemist he started to notice some things e.g. a “reaction” flask being stirred day after day without any further action. He also cunningly asked dumb questions and got condescending answers which amused him, especially where he knew more than the PhD talking down to him.
Initially he wondered how to get a job there with very little work but good pay, but he soon realised how boring it would be doing nothing.
I might add that on the 2 occasions I was involved with their “latest & greatest” idea for industry it was
rubbishimpractical.160
I also doubt that many of them would know that they breathe out carbon dioxide. It took me years before it dawned on me why Prince Charles once said that he talked to his plants.
110
“keeping the climate stable at about 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming compared to preindustrial levels
I just noticed. Stopping rapid, tipping point, runaway, world ending Global warming has been quietly replaced with “keeping the climate stable”?
Have we just been dudded? Again. Now Nett zero is because the warming has stopped, we have succeeded and must keep up the good work?
When did the Greens admit Global Warming has stopped?
120
“Without action by Congress, it will be impossible to meet Mr. Biden’s goal of cutting U.S. emissions roughly in half by the end of this decade. That target was aimed at keeping the climate stable at about 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming compared to preindustrial levels.”
Who in fact wrote this? It is a very different proposition to 2.5C or 3.5C by 2100. Keeping the climate stable at what is the current world average temperature is a very different proposition and a huge change.
100
Manchin pulls plug on Biden’s climate plan and leaves Senators shellshocked, and professors sobbing. If ever there was a deserved recipient of The Medal of Freedom surely Manchin would be in the van?
310
Manchin must be an old-style Democrat from the era when the Dems weren’t totally insane and committed to the destruction of the United States like the modern ones as epitomised by Obama, The Squad, Biden and his handlers, etc..
200
Is it worhwhile for the GOP to recruit Manchin? Can he see the error of his ways for being a Democrat? Can he be turned into a Trump Republican?
70
Dunno, not that it matters, he is his own man.
‘ … with November’s midterm elections increasingly likely to see Congressional control switch to the Republicans, who uniformly oppose action on the climate crisis.’ (Guardian)
80
“Is it worthwhile for the GOP to recruit Manchin? Can he see the error of his ways for being a Democrat? Can he be turned into a Trump Republican?”
No way, he is better left as a ‘Trojan Horse’ in the D camp.

He’s outside the tent but peeing out rather than in
10
It looks like the ‘Great reset’ is already under way…Just not the one the original proponents wished for.
There’s always a reality time lag but eventually it catches up.
180
Hopefully you’re right but I’m not so optimistic…
100
I only hope that Manchin doesn’t accept more lucrative bribery and abandon his principles.
Meanwhile Matt Ridley has just written an article on the Sri Lanka disaster and this short quote about organic farming is a classic.
“As the agricultural scientist Prof Channa Prakash of Tuskegee University in Alabama once told me: “Sure, organic agriculture is sustainable: it sustains poverty and malnutrition.” Farming was organic when millions died in famines every decade and the US prairies turned into dustbowls for lack of fertiliser to hold the soil during droughts”.
And yet the delusional, religious donkeys still BELIEVE?
321
When carbon is ploughed into the soil it helps the soil to maintain the soil’s moisture. Now if carbon (humans are made of plenty of carbon by the way) and carbon dioxide (and humans breathe out carbon dioxide) are so problematic, then what a good idea. Now, where is my $5 million Guv’ment Grant so that I can do more research on my computer lap top at the Pub. It’s nice and warm there with the heating on. Its 3 degrees C right now in Sydney……………..Global Warming anyone?

Here is a street interview Mark Dice did in LA five years ago. I bet all these people, except the last pair of ladies are useful idiots that vote Democrat, if they bother to vote at all.

He is not condemning the children to loads and loads of extra taxes that would be wasted and stolen by ‘Crony Capitalism’. Well done Sir.

Albo and Bowen, are you watching and listening to these developments? It’s called dogma meets reality with reality starting to win at last.
170
I hope so, but Australia is perhaps one of the most gullible of all countries. There is a reason that Australia is among the most fanatical adopters of the anthropogenic global warming fraud.
The dumbing down is extreme and you’ve got a billion dollar plus ABC promoting government propaganda 24/7. Plus massive embedded interests of the subsidy harvesters.

Meanwhile here’s some interesting facts about the second largest agricultural exporter in the world.
At the moment Dutch Farmers are fighting the extremists for their future survival, yet they are the second largest exporters of agricultural products today.
They are second only to the USA and certainly don’t want to follow Sri Lankan’s down the road to disaster. Amazing that 26% of the Netherlands is below sea level and about 56% of their country is subject to flooding. Yet they’ve been controlling their destiny and reclaiming their land for centuries. And their population today is about 17.1 million.
So why are their government doing their best to wreck their industry and way of life?
https://dutchreview.com/culture/innovation/second-largest-agriculture-exporter/
181
WEF, DAVOS, population control.
120
That figure that they are the second largest agricultural exporter in the world is widely quoted but it always surprised me since they have so little land.
The truth is that much agricultural produce is imported to the Netherlands and then immediately exported via the shipping ports of Rotterdam or Amsterdam. Or raw agricultural produce is imported, processed and then exported.
It doesn’t actually grow most of the produce itself.
But that is no excuse to be shutting down their farmers either.

so, to control the climate,
you just turn the co2 climate control knob up and down,
a bit like air conditioning.
140
Yep! Simple as that. You just adjust co2 ppm number and turn the temperature up or down as you please.
So I am not sure why they are so scared of more co2, because we know we can turn it down, should we need to.

For government they are just posts that require regular moving.

A distinct difference between Australian and US politics is that in Australia, the Lib/Lab/Green Uniparty ruthlessly enforces party discipline and except on rare occasions when a “conscience vote” is permitted (do politicians even have consciences?) they all vote in unison.
In the US, politicians are much freer to use their discretion when voting.

There Is definitely a planned food shortage underway for non-Elites.

If the world were scientifically literate, people would be rejoicing that CO2 is finally rising and we narrowly avoided a mass extinction event if the CO2 dropped below about 150ppm at which point much plant life is extinguished and therefore all life.
I hope it keeps increasing to a healthy 800-1000ppm.
How say you Leftoids? What is your target CO2 level? 150, 200, 0?
110
That’s the sort of extinction they ought to be rebelling against. Perhaps they (XR) could follow their usual m.o. and glue themselves to a motorway. Then they could get a close up look at and taste of that lovely oil-derived tarmac and ruminate on what a boon that nasty, CO2 spewing industry has been to our (their) modern civilisation.

Why are activists working on the legislation? That is something that politicians do on the advice of the experts in the relevant departments.
Still excellent news and nice to see a Democrat with integrity and common sense.
60
There are suggestions that these days in USA lobbyists write the legislation and the politicians tick and flick
30
Notice how it’s the Leftist Government’s across the Planet who are having to bite the bullet and admit that ….. well, maybe we might just NEED to hold back on some of those draconian measures.
Let’s hope the Greens and now those Independents who lean green feel the burn as people start to hear the truth.

“In rejecting any climate and energy provisions, Mr. Manchin appeared to have single-handedly shattered Mr. Biden’s ambitious climate agenda and what would have been the largest single federal investment in American history …”
How can it be “Single handedly” when he needs 50 othe Senators to vote with him? 🤦🏻♂️
50
The sound of one hand clapping.
20
I’m with those who note that Manchin said he would consider his position in a couple of month’s time.
Always remember that anything from the NY Times has been manufactured by a propaganda machine and any information has been filtered to remove facts and logical reasoning.
80
Whoa … Manchin knows what he is doing.
“I said, ‘Chuck, it’s wrong, it’s not prudent to do the other [items] right now,’” Manchin said, adding that if inflation comes down, “we can come back the first of September and pass this piece of legislation, if it’s a good piece of legislation.”

Poster in the window of a local cafe: Climate Action NOW.

Should have added a money box with label donate now while you still can.

I happened to be walking the mean streets of a delightful little town named Belingen a couple of weeks ago, a lovely sunny 21c and not a cloud in the sky. Whilst sitting on the husband seat outside a trendy little shop, I happened to notice a poster demanding that ubiquitous ‘climate action now’. I smiled at the irony of someone demanding such a thing when they live in what must surely be the world’s most equitable climate already.

There is that.

Conservative rednecks built anything beautiful about the town and the useless dregs get to take the claim of fame. Yuck. Horrible town.

Tesla has asked owners in Texas not to charge their cars during a heat wave to help avoid blackouts and overloading the state’s failing power grid.
Failing grid? Imagine when all cars are ev’s.
Meh..it’s only around $7 trillion to upgrade America’s grid. Print it – you’re bankrupt anyway.
Meanwhile in France, Macron orders street lights to be turned off to save power.
The future is stupid 😁
120
According to this article only about 1% of vehicles in TX are EV’s.
There are about 120,000 EV’s and 70,000 Teslas.
It’s only a matter of time before Big Brother decides when or if you can charge your EV’s or they will require you to connect your EV to the charger so power can be sucked out of it into the grid.
Texas is being ruined by all the Leftoid refugees from Kaliforniastan. Kaliforniastan is even too much for a lot of Leftoids.
https://www.dallasnews.com/business/autos/2022/04/18/seeing-more-teslas-on-texas-roads-electric-vehicle-adoption-isnt-as-widespread-as-youd-think/
50
It is only a matter of time before EVs are hit with all the taxes which hit fossil fuel vehicles, including excise which is $1 a litre in Australia and 1 Pound a litre in the UK. The subsidization of electric vehicles by everyone else has to stop.
And they should pay a premium for using relatively cheap electricity which is a universal commodity intended only for residential consumption and factories and manufacturing. Electric cars are a luxury that most people and countries cannot afford with their electrical supply already stretched by erratic and underperforming windmills and solar panels. Let people charge their own cars only from their own solar panels and their own windmills in their own backyards and reality will set in.
40
Access to energy is now being reinterpreted by the Left as an optional luxury commodity that is deemed selfish to consume rather than the fundamental lifeblood of our civilisation and the liberator from drudgery of regular people. Naturally the Elites will continue to have access to unlimited energy and private jets, etc..
Fancy having to argue the case for access to energy?
90
It is not an unintended consequence. This has always been one of the intended consequences. The left love scarcity of all kinds, because it empowers them as redistributors and rationers of resources. Abundance is an existental threat to their religious-Gov. polity.
51
This would normally be embarrassing – “Leah Stokes, a professor…described the months of work she and other activists..”
I know they write “scientists” after – but the NYT could have written scientists first..
She and other activists indeed!

“professor of environmental policy”
I remember studying biology, zoology, botany and more and wondering whether it really was science. And looking down a microscope and drawing what I saw and failing. Then I saw what experienced people did, copy what was in the textbook and what you were supposed to see, not what you saw. That was the trick, to agree with everyone else and it worked. It is a different world and the strangest was ecology which was a very soft discipline and of course the money and jobs have been in following others and these days in environmental activism.
To then claim you are a real rational scientist with hard sciences expertise and can affirm the entire physical science story of man made CO2 driven rapid tipping point Global Warming is nonsense. No part of the long chain of logic is supported by the evidence. In fact it is contradicted. Even more obviously damning of the fake equilibrium which drives the nonsense idea of nett zero is that NASA and even our CSIRO agree an area the size of Brazil has greened since 1990. Because CO2 has gone up and in exact proportion. CO2 has not produced continuing warming but it has been a boon for all life on earth. Adviser in environmental policy? How wrong can you be?
30
And how could a zoologist of ancient extinct animals Tim Flannery be crowned Australian Chief Climate Commissioner, surely a post requiring an expert and adviser to the Australian government with no qualifications whatsoever in hard sciences. Certainly not meteorology and an undergraduate degree in English because he could not get into a science course. “Even the rains that fall will not fill the dams”. Really? He was and remains dam wrong.

Abraham Maslow must be laughing in his grave at the “climate change” debate. Which side you’re on depends on which level of the pyramid you are residing.

Just to show how equally loony both sides of politics are, whether it’s the US or the state of Victoria in Australia. Victorian Liberals and Nationals (LNP or the opposition party) will legislate a 50 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030 if victorious at the state election this coming November. Which means they intend to provide a target even greater than Federal Labor (43%). So, either they are serious or they think giving a target is just aspirational and might be enough to win some votes. The climb to peak stupid is still continuing.

Meanwhile in Germany – German Energy Giant Warns Of Insolvency “Within Days”, Starts Draining Gas From Storage
Dear Biden administration: for an example of a real emergency that justifies draining a commodity reserve – and not just midterm elections which Democrats will lose in a historic rout – read on.
German energy giant and distressed nat gas utility Uniper, which is among the companies most exposed to Russian natural gas, has started using gas it was storing for the winter after Russia cut deliveries to Europe, increasing pressure on Berlin as the German energy giant needs to be rescued “in a few days.”
The country’s top buyer of Russian gas started withdrawing fuel from storage sites to supply its customers, the company said in a statement to Bloomberg on Friday. The drawdowns, which began on Monday, will also help the company to save some cash as it has been forced to pay up for gas in the spot market. Meanwhile, flows through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline remain shut for maintenance.
Harald Seegatz, deputy chairman of the supervisory board, said that Uniper needs urgent help, risking insolvency within days.
“We are currently reducing our own gas volumes in our storage facilities in order to supply our customers with gas and to secure Uniper’s liquidity,” the company said.
And judging by the flatlining of German gas storage in inventory, Uniper is not alone in draining reserves.
