Communist British scientist dubbed ‘Stalin’s nanny’ who wanted face masks and social distancing FOREVER is given top job at World Health Organization

A British communist scientist who wanted face masks to be worn forever has been handed an influential role at the World Health Organization.

Professor Susan Michie — a longstanding member of the Communist Party of Britain and Labour donor — was yesterday made chair of the WHO’s behavioural advisory group.
    [SNIP]

Her appointment raised eyebrows on social media, given Professor Michie’s hardline views during the Covid pandemic.

She famously called for masks and social distancing to remain ‘forever’ in an interview with Channel 5 last year and regularly spouted alarmist predictions on BBC News, which sparked questions about the broadcaster’s objectivity.

In other words, whatever the WHO says, you should immediately take the opposite action.

That fraud that currently heads up that organisation is, on his own a direct threat to health of the western nations.
Coupled together with this latest commie being handed a role in our proposed extermination, be ready for a direct onslaught. No matter what they say do the opposite for own good!

Bizarre study finds common parasite can make you more attractive

An extraordinary new study suggest that scenario may actually be playing out with one of the most common parasites in the world, Toxoplasma gondii (T.gondii), which potentially manipulates its human host’s appearance to be more sexually attractive.

Javier Borráz-León, from the University of Turku, has long been amazed at the way parasites have been found to influence host behavior as a way of moving to a new host. T.gondii in particular has been subject to a large volume of prior study, with researchers finding the parasite can, for example, make an animal host attracted to the smell of urine from predator cats. This leads the host to engage in risky behavior, increasing the likelihood of it being eaten by a predator cat, thus allowing the parasite a way of reaching its optimal host.

Definitely no T. Gondii in women out my way. 😅😅

It’s fascinating how many parasites can alter the behaviour of the host.

      E.g.

Rabies causes it’s host to bite others to spread the virus.

Cordyceps fungi change the behaviour of the host ant and make it climb a branch about 25cm off the ground where the parasite the releases spores.

Malaria parasites make the host crave nectar.

COVID-19 makes people lose all sense of reason and causes them to give up individual rights and causes governments to spend massive amounts of borrowed money.

CO2 causes even greater insanity and economic damage than COVID-19.

        True.
Rabies infects the bervous system so is very slow to reach the brain as bites are typically distal.

Cordyceps has fascinated me as the mechanism behind the action is unknown.
        Can’t wait for an explanation!

I don’t know if anything is known about how it alters ant behaviour.

Cordyceps however has many medicinal uses.

          Google “cordyceps benefits” without quotes.

My experience of rabies many years ago in India. A rabid dog tied to the water tank cattle drank from bit a nasty tempered old buffalo and a placid tempered heifer. The disease seemed to amplify the normal tendencies of the animals: the heifer lay down and died quietly; the buffalo went berzerk and had to be shot.

USA temperature surface stations are corrupted by heat biases
Approximately 96 percent of U.S. temperature stations used to measure climate change fail to meet placement standards
    .

    From Friends of Science.
    .

A new report (37 MB) was published that shows the USA temperature surface stations are corrupted by heat biases because they are located in man-made hot spots. A summary of the report (at whatsupwiththat) says “A new study, Corrupted Climate Stations: The Official U.S. Surface Temperature Record Remains Fatally Flawed, finds approximately 96 percent of U.S. temperature stations used to measure climate change fail to meet what the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) considers to be ‘acceptable’ and uncorrupted placement by its own published standards.”
The report was compiled by satellite and in-person survey visits to NOAA weather stations that contribute to the “official” land temperature data in the United States. These stations measurements are corrupted by localized effects of urbanization, producing heat-bias because of their close proximity to asphalt, machinery, and other heat-producing, heat-trapping, or heat-accentuating objects. Anthony Watts, the director of the study, said “Data from the stations that have not been corrupted by faulty placement show a rate of warming in the United States reduced by almost half compared to all stations.”

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the study was organised by WUWT, not Heartland, and it builds on Watts’ previous study. A lot of our BOM measuring sites would also not meet their stated requirements. And perhaps you should read and comprehend the very detailed discussions about those trends on WUWT – it appears that there are many knowledgeable folks participating in this discussion that know a lot about statistics and measurement errors.

          70

          • #

In Peters defence, I assume that he was referring to the 1867 flood on the Hawkesbury-Nepean Rivers, which peaked at 19 metres, a full 6 metres above the recent ones. As for bushfires, I think he might have been referring to the Black Thursday bushfire of 1851 in Victoria that burnt out about 5 million hectares and took out about a million sheep, or maybe the 1939 Black Friday bushfires in Victoria that destroyed 3,700 homes and took 71 lives, or maybe the 4 million Victorian hectares burnt out in 1951-52. There was no mention of native wildlife suffering in these conflagrations, but fast forward to the 2019, and:

At least one billion wild animals are estimated to have died (not including frogs and insects) with some species thought to be facing extinction.

It’s a wonder there was any wildlife left in Australia after at least 150 years of major floods and fires.

Most of those animals thought lost returned to the blackened forests not long after the fires, the birds flew in and a lot of ground dwelling creatures sheltered in wombat burrows.
Our socalled ‘educated’ persons’ didn’t know that this could happen, so what have they been studying for the last 60 years.

Peter if that’s the case, why the published papers claiming it’s the irrigation that causes all the years of cooling in the USA rural belts?
It’s a bit like all the papers claiming the hiatus didn’t exist alongside all the papers saying it was temporary and exactly what was expected etc.
With so much advocacy ‘science’ churning out of the alarmist community, it’s difficult to get the story straight.
Then there’s the supposedly high quality Climate Reference Network which shows nothing like the same trend in its admittedly short existence.

And no, the farcical study by BEST was one of the weakest possible scientific attempts ever to identify urban and other station issues.

Did you know that some 97% of climate stations in the USA are TOTALLY UNFIT FOR “CLIMATE” PURPOSES being heavily changed, and heavily encroached by all sorts of warming effects.

And at least half in Australia should not be used either. One can only imagine what the sparse sites elsewhere in the world are like !

Un-urban-affected Australian stations show very little warming, just as Australian tide gauges show very little sea level rise.

The world global surface temperature measurements are scientifically meaningless.

The whole AGW farce is built on a quicksand of scientific mal-practice, concocted lies and mistruths..

In reality…. IT DOESN’T ACTUALLY EXIST.

        Hi Peter,

What’s the “BEST Study”? Do you have a link.
What do you classify as “the same upward trend”? Does “same” simply they all had an upward trend? Or does “same” mean they all had the identical rate of warming upward trend?

If it’s simply that they all have an upward trend then please note the following from the above summary. Perhaps your other study doesn’t disagree.
Data from the stations that have not been corrupted by faulty placement show a rate of warming in the United States reduced by almost half compared to all stations.

Interesting that your other study confirms there are badly placed stations.

Graeme #4 is correct. Anthony Watts is the author of the study.

Of course we should ignore climate effects like wildfires and floods

Please see the report at my comment #6 about extreme weather.
I doubt you’ll bother reading it so I’ll give the result away here. Floods and wildfires are not becoming worse or more common. That’s even including the Aus fires of spring/summer 2019/2020.
But what if they were getting worse. You still have to establish that a change in climate is man caused or majority man caused.

The dark side of electric vehicles

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=RFHvq-8np1o&feature=emb_logo

A story from an auto mechanic in NZ:

Had to work on a Nissan Leaf last week. A $30,000 car with a crook battery.
(No-one else in town would work on it and he had been trained so he got it. He also got the tutor from Dunedin Polytech to help.)
One crook module in the battery was shorting to the case.
A secondhand module is able to be fitted, but they need to be in exactly the same condition as the remaining ones(85.2%) or the entire battery fails.
So the owner was left with the option of a secondhand battery out of a wreck that had no guarantee at $14,000 or a new battery at $20,000.

Then there is the problem of disposing of the battery or part battery. Nothing is available and no-one is willing to transport a damaged battery.
Specialist transport is available and the cost of transporting one module (out of 24) to Australia for safe disposal is around $5,000.

On top if that the tutor went through some of the EV legislation with him.
So if one is involved in a crash, and people are trapped inside, the fire brigade have to isolate the battery before cutting into the car.
In a Leaf, the isolation plug is under a bolted cover on the floor between the front and back seats. Once the cover is removed, the three pairs of gloves required by law are to be fitted, cotton, rubber and leather.
Then with hands resembling lamb roasts they can try and disconnect the 3 stage electrical plug. Then they can cut into the car.

So if you’re in an EV crash you’re in big trouble. Also, you can’t use water on an EV fire as it makes Lithium burn. They forgot to tell you that part too.

Very clearly, until technology improves, EV is not value for money or convenient to operate unless used only for short distance lower speeds commuting, like city and suburbs.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles also have considerable development problems to solve but could be a better technology than EV plug in.

What appears to be affordable and practical are Hybrid vehicles with electric drive motors and internal combustion engine driven generator and low range battery pack. However, only a few Hybrids sold today have significant towing capacity with the best in the one to two hundred thousand dollar retail price range.

You’ll be right, Uncle Klaus won’t let you own an electric car, or any car actually! Private vehicle ownership will be for Elites only!

“In a paper published by the WEF on Friday, the globalist elites claim that communal sharing of cars is part of a “circular approach” necessary to reduce global demands for precious metals and fossil fuels. Thousands of private jets fly into Davos each year for the WEF’s summit, but according to Klaus Schwab ordinary people should not own their own car.

The global elites in Geneva, Switzerland, are now instructing their Young Global Leaders embedded in governments around the world that far too many people own private vehicles and this situation must be changed by pricing people out of the market.

Citing the fact that “the average car or van in England is driven just 4% of the time,” the WEF claims this means people in developed countries including the United States should not have the right to own their own car. People should sell their car and walk or share because “Car sharing platforms such as Getaround and BlueSG have already seized that opportunity to offer vehicles where you pay per hour used.”

The end of private ownership is essential, according to the WEF, and can be applied to everything from cars to private homes and even city-wide design principles.”

Athlete Deaths Are 1,700% Higher Since 2021 and Nobody’s Allowed To Ask Why

According to officials statistics, the number of athletes who have dropped dead since the beginning of 2021 has skyrocketed compared to the yearly number of deaths of athletes recorded before Covid jabs were introduced.

The monthly average number of deaths between January 2021 and April 2022 is 1,700% higher than the monthly average between 1966 and 2004, and the current trend for 2022 so far shows this could increase up to a whopping 4,120% if the increased number of deaths continues. The number of deaths in March 2022 is already three times higher than the previous annual average.

According to a scientific study conducted by the ‘Division of Pediatric Cardiology, University Hospital of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland which was published in 2006, between the years 1966 and 2004 there were 1,101 sudden deaths among athletes under the age of 35.

The 2021 total equates to 394 deaths, 14x higher than the 1966 to 2004 annual average. The Jan to April 2022 total, a period of 4 months, equates to 279 deaths, 9.96x higher than the annual average between 1966 and 2004.

Heart damage is ubiquitous throughout the vaccinated population, and the damage is being diagnosed in multiple ways. Acute cardiac failure rates are now 475 times the normal baseline rate in VAERS. Tachycardia rates are 7,973 times the baseline rate. Acute myocardial infarction is 412 times the baseline rate. The rates of internal haemorrhage, peripheral artery thrombosis, coronary artery occlusion are all over 300 times the baseline rate.

      From the Washington Post:
Here’s the rub: This claim has been debunked repeatedly. The story of athletes dropping dead from coronavirus vaccines has its roots in mysterious Austrian websites with ties to that country’s far-right populist party, the Freedom Party. Those stories were then recycled by right-wing media …”

The issue is that deaths do happen in athletes — and always have. With 12.5 Billion shots given worldwide, some deaths will happen. It doesn’t help when bogus information is repeated.
A 2011 report from the University of Washington found about 400,000 students, ages 17-23, participate in NCAA sports each year. One in 44,000 had sudden cardiac death. Note that that was before Covid.
I very much would like to see a recent report on this. Meanwhile, there are no reports of SCD in local papers or other media reports.
And, finally, if an athlete was without symptoms but was infected and participated aggressively, should we not expect the rate to increase?

So, help me out? Find better studies.

EXTREME WEATHER – The IPCC’s changing tune
    A report by Ralph Alexander
PhD in physics from the University of Oxford. Author of Global Warming False Alarm and Science Under Attack: The Age of Unreason.

    https://www.thegwpf.org/content/uploads/2022/07/IPCC-Extreme-Weather.pdf

    Executive summary
This paper compares empirical observations of extreme weather events with their coverage in the 2021 Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The conclusions of AR6 are contrasted with observational data described in recent research papers and reports, particularly in relation to droughts, tropical cyclones, heatwaves (including marine heatwaves) and cold extremes. The paper also covers major floods, tornadoes, wildfires and coral bleaching, with a short update of the discussion of disaster risk analysis in my report last year.2 In a shift of its previous stance, the IPCC claims, for the first time, that climate change is now
affecting many weather extremes all over the globe. While this is not true and contrary to the available evidence, AR6 does follow earlier IPCC reports in not making any strong statements attribut- ing extreme weather to global warming.
The IPCC claim that agricultural and ecological droughts are increasing is wrong. Several recent research studies have confirmed the lack of any long-term trend in drought worldwide over at least a millennium, with no evidence that modern global warming has played any role so far.
AR6 links tropical cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons and tropical storms) to global warming with a statement that the proportion of major tropical cyclones has increased across the globe since 1980. Although this assertion appears to be correct, a 2021 study found that the observation merely reflects improvements in measurement capabilities since 1970, and is unlikely to be a genuine climate trend. Hurricanes overall show a decreasing trend around the globe, and the frequency
of landfalling hurricanes of any strength (Categories 1 through 5) has not changed for at least 50 years.
Claims of strengthened evidence for attribution of heatwaves to global warming, and their more frequent occurrence, can be questioned because data before 1950 is largely ignored in AR6. In the US, for which there are detailed heatwave records back to 1900, a quite different picture emerges. The Hadley temperature compilation, which underlies the IPCC position that heatwaves are on the rise globally, needs to be tested on the much larger US dataset to see if it can reproduce
the US data profile. Furthermore, the modern heatwave trend in AR6 is artificially exaggerated because the 1950 start date used is in the middle of a 30-year period of global cooling, from 1940 to 1970.
There is no convincing empirical evidence for the AR6 declaration that the frequency of marine heatwaves has doubled since the 1980s. Because sea-surface temperature data from the presatellite era was unreliable and sparse, earlier marine heatwaves were likely missed. And the magnitudes of current marine heatwaves are most likely verestimated due to uncertainties in themarine datasets.
A statement in AR6 that cold extremes have become less frequent and severe is also wrong.Observational evidence shows that cold extremes are increasing and may have become more se-vere, a fact even acknowledged by the IPCC’s sister UN agency, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
And, although AR6 wrongly states that coral bleaching and mortality events have increased in recent decades, the report fails to note that such phenomena are not new. There is empirical evidence for bleaching of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef dating back to 1575, long before modern global warming began. This is another example of the IPCC’s neglect of history.
Wisely, AR6 does not change the IPCC’s previous position on floods, tornadoes or wildfires. But its conclusions about droughts, tropical cyclones, heatwaves and cold extremes cannot be justified by actual observations.

      Pelosi Provokes War With China

      Martin Armstrong states –

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan during her tour of Asia, despite China’s harsh warnings that doing so could lead to war. Pelosi will be the first US House speaker to visit Taiwan in a quarter of a century, yet she has not fully explained her reason for visiting. The US military and every intelligence agency have urged Pelosi not to go, but Biden said she may do so if she pleases.

The Department of Defense will be forced to escort Pelosi to Taiwan, and China has blatantly said that this would be considered an aggressive act of war. “If US fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane into Taiwan, it is invasion,” Hu Xijin of Global Times wrote on Twitter. “The [Chinese military] has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi’s plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down.”

China has repeatedly warned the US not to interfere with its relationship with Taiwan over the years. It is the main hot-button topic that China has said is off-limits. Pelosi is putting the entire nation in danger by visiting, and her comments are further provoking China.

“It’s important for us to show support for Taiwan,” Pelosi said. “None of us have ever said we’re for independence when it comes to Taiwan. That’s up to Taiwan to decide.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that a visit would lead to “forceful measures” by the Chinese. Absolutely nothing positive could come out of this trip.”

    Hydrogen!

My local paper is always a reliable fount of greenwashing activity. And last week came the news that Viva Energy will open Australia’s first hydrogen refuelling station in Geelong next year. Renewable electricity will be used to split water molecules to make the green hydrogen. First users are expected to be petrol tankers, Geelong’s mooted hydrogen fuel-cell buses, garbage trucks, and an organic waste recycling transporter.

All the buzzwords are here. Green. Hydrogen. Organic. Renewable. Recycling. A solar energy hub and a floating gas terminal are also planned. The last may be useful.

The codeword is NESS: New Energies Service Station. EV recharging will be provided.

    Hydrogen is on its way!

For me the perfect car solution is already here, the plug-in hybrid. Small battery electric motors and a small twin turbo petrol engine. Offers astonishing fuel economy around 1.5 l/100km and solves the distance problem, and it’s economically feasible unlike big battery EVs.

But no, the greens have banned these in 5 years time or something like that, they’re being phased out.

About 8L/100km which is roughly normal when at 110 freeway speed, which isnt that bad, it’s what I get now. But when in urban or short distance driving using pure electric you do 0. I do lots of small 3 km trips in a car and it would eat that up. It annoys me having to run a cold engine so much.

Monkeypox terror vs LGBTQ© Agenda: when contradictory leftist narratives collide

One of the more pernicious tactics that the social justice movement uses is placing its opponents into rhetorical double-binds:

“A psychological predicament in which a person receives from a single source conflicting messages that allow no appropriate response to be made.”

Once you understand how this manipulative trick works, you’ll discover it everywhere in SJW discourse.
For example, let’s take the recent monkeypox scare, which primarily affects homosexual men – or, to use the new PC phrase, “men who have sex with other men.”
On the one hand, LGBTQ+++© activists criticize the public health response on the grounds that it’s not responsive enough to the needs of “vulnerable” populations.
“Demonstrators, including many LGBTQ activists, say officials have yet to provide the necessary outreach to vulnerable populations as issues continue to plague the vaccine rollout.”

Yet, on the other hand, tailoring the monkeypox response to gay men – who, again, account for 99% of cases, is framed as “stigmatizing”:
“The singling out has sparked fears that gay and bisexual men, who appear to account for most of Europe’s monkeypox cases so far, are once again in danger of being stigmatized as carriers of an exotic and frightening disease.”

LGBTQ+++© activists make contradictory, simultaneous criticisms:
Monkeypox specifically affects homosexual men and not framing it explicitly as an LGBTQ+++© public health emergency is negligent/discriminatory
Monkeypox is not an LGBTQ+++©-specific disease and framing it as such is homophobic/discriminatory

    “GREEN” IS UNSUSTAINABLE

The administration’s “green” energy proposals, like those that have been adopted in Europe, are leading this country toward an economic, social and strategic disaster. It is hard to think of any set of policies, adopted by any government at any moment in history, that rival our “green” mania for sheer destructiveness. Although, that said, Sri Lanka’s brief commitment to “sustainability” comes to mind.

Speaking of sustainability, this piece by Stuart Gottlieb in today’s Wall Street Journal, titled “Biden’s Climate Plans Are Unsustainable,” makes some great points.

The greatest threat to [environmental] progress—particularly in the critical realm of climate—comes not from such emerging mega-emitters as China and India, although they certainly play a role. It comes from the energy and climate initiatives promoted by the Biden White House, which are themselves unsustainable—so aggressive and unduly optimistic that they risk a backlash that would set back the cause of environmental sustainability for generations.

Australia: Gynaecologist Dr. Luke McLinden fired before releasing data

Australian gynecologist Dr. Luke McLinden has been keeping stats since the introduction of the vaccine, found that (50% – 74%) of women who are vaccinated are now having miscarriages.
I showed this same post to a local Manila based obe-gyn, friend. Her response was:

“Yes, it’s happening in countries with high vaccination rates. It’ll happen to us soon! And I’m seeing it in my practice; so many pregnancy failures!”

She has been collecting data within her practice but has not yet compiled and analyzed that data. She also mentioned that she has recently seen far more cervical cancer cases in apparently low risks women recently than ever before. I asked if anyone is talking about these cases in her profession. She said that many of her colleagues still do not countenance that any of the women’s health issues could be related to the vaccines rolled out last year. Anyone who dares to suggest so becomes a pariah!

US nuclear regulator greenlights its first small modular reactor.

The first generation-IV nuclear reactor design has been approved for certification by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). NuScale’s small modular reactor design promises safe, clean energy at radically reduced cost, land use and installation time.

The NRC released news last week that its staff have been directed to make a final rule certifying the NuScale reactor design for use in the United States. This is just the seventh design approved by the NRC since it was established in 1974, and the first of a coming generation of next-gen technologies designed to make nuclear power cheaper, easier and safer to implement than ever before.

The keys to this small modular reactor’s advantages lie in its small size and modularity. Rather than having to build each reactor on site, custom designed for the location, NuScale can mass-manufacture its light water reactor modules in a factory and then ship them worldwide for a relatively quick and painless installation.

Each roughly cylindrical module stands around 65 ft (20 m) high, with a 9-foot (2.7-m) diameter, and produces 77 megawatts by pushing steam out through a turbine. A given power plant could run anywhere between four and 12 of these modules, submerged in a water tank, so an overall power station will be good for between 308 and 924 MW. Nuclear will be a key baseline generator for renewables-based power grids in many areas, and NuScale says its mass production capabilities will make it cost-competitive even with some fossil-fueled options.

Blowhole wave energy generator exceeds expectations in 12-month test.

Wave Swell Energy’s remarkable UniWave 200 is a sea platform that uses an artificial blowhole formation to create air pressure changes that drive a turbine and feed energy back to shore. After a year of testing, the company reports excellent results.

A 200-kW test platform was installed last year off King Island, facing the notoriously rough seas of Bass Strait, which separates the island state of Tasmania from the mainland of Australia. There, it’s been contributing reliable clean energy to the island’s microgrid around the clock for a full 12 months. The WSE team has made a few live tweaks to the design during operation, improving its performance beyond original expectations.

“We set out to prove that Wave Swell’s wave energy converter technology could supply electricity to a grid in a range of wave conditions, and we have done that,” said WSE CEO Paul Geason in a press release. “One key achievement has been to deliver real-world results in Tasmanian ocean conditions to complement the AMC test modeling. In some instances, the performance of our technology in the ocean has exceeded expectations due to the lessons we’ve learnt through the project, technological improvements and the refinements we have made over the course of the year.”

Mayo Clinic Study Uncovers Dietary Trick To Help Prevent Kidney Stones.

Diets Higher in Calcium and Potassium May Help Prevent Recurrent Symptomatic Kidney Stones
Not only can kidney stones cause excruciating pain, but they also are associated with chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. If you’ve experienced a kidney stone once, you have a 30% chance of having another kidney stone within five years.

Typically, doctors prescribe changes in diet to prevent recurrent symptomatic kidney stones. Unfortunately, there is little research available regarding dietary changes for those who have one incident of kidney stone formation versus those who have recurrent incidents.

411 patients who had experienced first-time symptomatic kidney stones and a control group of 384 people participated in the study. Dietary factors were based on a questionnaire administered to the participants, all of whom were seen at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Mayo Clinic in Florida between 2009 and 2018. The findings, which will be published today (August 1) in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, show that lower dietary calcium and potassium, as well as lower intake of fluids, caffeine, and phytate, are associated with higher odds of experiencing a first-time symptomatic kidney stone.

World’s Most Durable Hydrogen Fuel Cell Paves Way for Wider Application of Green Energy.
    (HHGH part 3.😁)

A new hydrogen fuel cell has been developed by scientists at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Not only is it the world’s most durable[1] to date, but it is also more cost-effective, paving the way for a wider application of green energy in the pursuit of a carbon-neutral world.

Researchers have strived to develop alternatives by replacing platinum with more common and inexpensive materials like iron-nitrogen-carbon. However, those materials have either proven inefficient in power generation or have suffered from poor durability.

Now, a research team led by Prof. Minhua Shao from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at HKUST, discovered a new formula. It not only cuts down the proportion of platinum used by 80 percent, but it also set a record in terms of the cell’s durability level.

Researchers Identify a Baffling New Type of Diabetes That Affects Millions

Malnutrition-related diabetes is a mysterious form of diabetes that affects tens of millions of individuals in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Rarely do its victims, who are mostly skinny and poor teens and young adults, survive more than a year following diagnosis. Their young age and frail appearance point to type 1 diabetes (T1D), yet insulin shots often are ineffective and may even result in low blood sugar deaths. Additionally, none of the individuals seem to have type 2 diabetes (T2D), which is often linked to obesity. Despite the fact that the illness was originally documented about 70 years ago, physicians are still unaware of how to treat it due to a lack of research on the condition.

Dr. Hawkins and colleagues have shown that malnutrition-related diabetes is significantly metabolically distinct from T1D and T2D and should be regarded as a distinct type of diabetes in the first thorough examination of patients with this poorly known condition. Their research was recently published in the journal Diabetes Care.

“Current scientific literature offers no guidance on managing malnutrition-related diabetes, which is rare in high-income nations but exists in more than 60 low- and middle-income countries,” said Dr. Hawkins, professor of medicine and the Harold and Muriel Block Chair in Medicine at Einstein. “The doctors in those countries read Western medical journals, so they don’t learn about malnutrition-related diabetes and don’t suspect it in their patients. We hope our findings will increase awareness of this disease, which is so devastating to so many people and will pave the way for effective treatment strategies.”

Fun fact Tuesday. The carbon cost of email.

An average spam email: 0.3 g CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent)

    A standard email: 4 g CO2e

An email with “long and tiresome attachments”: 50 g CO2e

It is estimated that the average office worker receives 121 emails per day, and that half of these will be spam (Global News). Based on my own emails, the remaining half is almost equally comprised of those with and without attachments (those with attachments predominantly have more than one). So…

    60.5 spam emails x 0.3 g CO2e = 18.5 g CO2e
    30.25 standard emails x 4 g CO2e = 121 g CO2e
    30.25 emails with attachments x 50 g CO2e = 1512.5 g CO2e

This means that a day’s worth of emails received is equal to 1,652 g CO2e…

    And that one year’s worth of emails received equals 603,393 g CO2e = 0.593863329 or 0.6 tonnes CO2e

To put this into perspective, the total yearly carbon footprint of the average person living in India is approx 1.5 tonnes CO2e

Bill Gates Left Reeling after McDonald’s Ditches ‘Fake Meat’ Project

Bill Gates has been left reeling after McDonald’s announced they were ditching their ‘fake meat’ project due to the public’s dislike of the meatless burgers.

In November 2021, McDonald’s began testing the meat-free McPlant burger in eight restaurants across America. In February this year, McDonald’s then rolled out the McPlant burger at 600 additional locations. According to reports, the experiment ended as a complete failure.

Martin Armstrong – “It’s all a matter of Confidence”

“To everyone’s surprise, other than a trader, bull markets are long drawn out affairs, but bear markets accomplish 90% of the decline in just two to three years. You are witnessing history. The United States is being destroyed rapidly, and unfortunately, even a 100% Republican victory in November will not stop the decline. It will merely present a short-term bounce in confidence. What takes centuries to build vanishes from history faster.”

    Please consider;

“In May 1967, after 10 years of campaigning, a referendum on Indigenous recognition in the Australian constitution was held. The lead-up to the poll focused public attention on the fact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were treated as second-class citizens. Nearly 91 per cent of the electorate voted to amend the constitution. This change meant that Aboriginal people would be counted as part of the population and acknowledged as equal citizens, and that the Commonwealth would be able to make laws on their behalf. This was seen to reflect public recognition of Aboriginal people as full Australian citizens.”

Canada Unveils “Mandatory” AR-15 Buyback Program; US House Passes Assault Weapons Ban

The Canadian government wants people’s semi-automatic rifles. They unveiled a new gun buyback plan to purchase “assault-style” weapons that the federal government banned in early 2020.

Public Safety Canada released a statement last week indicating that the gun buyback program is “mandatory for individuals to participate,” according to CTV News.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s aggressive campaign to disarm Canadians hasn’t stopped with prohibiting the sale and use of AR platform firearms and other types of weapons. He has proposed a countrywide “freeze” on the sale, import, and transfer of all handguns.

Trudeau appears to be following the blueprints of authoritarians: confiscate guns.

In 1959, Fidel Castro seized control of Cuba and immediately removed all guns from citizens. His communist regime went door to door to force citizens into turning over their firearms.

Totalitarianism and gun confiscation are always intertwined. The most disturbing part is that it’s already happening to our neighbors in the north and could soon be coming to the US.

On Friday, the US House of Representatives passed an assault weapons ban (217-213 vote included 215 Democrats and two Republicans, with five Democrats voting against the bill). However, the bill is all optics for Democrats ahead of midterm elections in November with low probabilities of passing the Senate. The bill bans importing, selling, manufacturing, or transferring semi-automatic assault weapons.

History provides alarming proof that when regimes disarm their citizens, a slippery slope of the loss of liberties soon follows. Just look how communist Cuba turned out…

    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/canada-unveils-mandatory-ar-15-buyback-program-us-house-passes-assault-weapons-ban

Of course the typical semiauto rifle is NOT an “assault rifle” by definition, but idiot pollies and ignorant journos don’t care.

It looks like the WEF great transition is about to hit and gun bans are an act of self preservation for the elite.
But just like NZ, they can expect a low compliance.

Mystery illnesses in teenage Aussie girls – as parents fear the worst over uncontrollable ‘tics’

Young women around Australia are being struck down by a mystery neurological illness – with experts fearing social media addiction and pandemic stress is triggering the problem.

The Tourette’s syndrome-like disorder is seeing teenagers suffering from incontrollable ‘tics’ – which include outbursts, twitching, pops, noises, swearing, kicking and hitting.

Doctors are also witnessing the phenomenon across the globe where previously healthy young women have reported suddenly coming down with violent physical and verbal impulses.

But what’s causing the rapid increase in cases has parents and medical authorities baffled.

One possible explanation is that anxiety and stress stemming from extended periods of isolation coupled with obsessions for apps like TikTok, may have been the catalyst.

Hepatitis Outbreak of Unknown Cause Among Children: A Direct Result of AstraZeneca’s COVID “Vaccine” According to Virologist Dr. Ann-Cathrin Engwall

A respected virologist-immunologist has written a letter to the esteemed British Medical Journal (BMJ) explaining that a new outbreak of “acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children” is a direct result of AstraZeneca’s viral vector Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) “vaccine.”

Millions of children in the United Kingdom were injected with the poison, which an earlier study published in the Journal of Hepatology confirmed is causing many of them to develop severe liver damage – in some cases requiring an urgent liver transplant.

Dr. Ann-Cathrin Engwall said that adenovirus infections, which are present in 70 percent of affected children, could be the cause of acute hepatitis in children observed – even though adenovirus infections do not normally cause hepatitis in healthy children.

This strange phenomenon, she said, could point to “a completely new type of adenovirus that might have been introduced into the human population.”

“In Sweden, approximately 20 percent of adults and 50 percent of kindergarten children are carriers. This safety issue of viral-vector delivery systems was often discussed in the beginning of the development of these medical tools.”

The mass introduction of adenovirus vector vaccines on the heels of the plandemic represents a first in human history. Thus, the risk for recombination with adenoviruses is massively increased – which explains the sudden and seemingly out-of-nowhere appearance of hepatitis in fully-injected children.

The really sad thing is that if these viral vector injections are in fact the cause of acute hepatitis in children, then the symptoms they are experiencing now “could just be the tip of the iceberg,” Dr. Engwall warned.

The WEF Wants to Reduce Car Ownership by 90 Percent and Nudge People Into Eating Plants and Bugs

More sharing can reduce ownership of idle equipment and thus material usage,” the group argued, pointing to statistics that show the average vehicle in England is driven “just 4% of the time.”

Though it did not address how car sharing could be more effectively utilized in a nation like the U.S. where cars are heavily relied on and public transportation is lacking in both rural and urban communities.

The WEF also advocates that people stop consuming meat and instead eat insects, algae, lentils, fonio, okra, moringa, spinach, mushrooms, and cactuses to lower their “carbon footprints.”

The Congressional Budget Office warned that US federal debt is expected to rise 185% within the next 30 years.

Total debt holdings could double the size of US GDP by 2051. No politician or spender of this debt cares as they have no intention of paying it off. The Congressional Budget Office is calling this an optimistic forecast, given the previous estimate of debt soaring to 202% of GDP by 2051. The fact of the matter is that no one can foresee how much money politicians will continue to spend. Servicing the debt will become more expensive over time, expected to reach 10% of GDP by 2051, 7.4% in 2042, and 5.1% in 2032.

Most do not realize that the national debt is already at monumental levels. US gross federal debt to GDP reached 100% by 2012. The ratio remained somewhat stagnant until capitalism became sick with COVID in 2020, and the GDP to debt ratio rose to 128.1%. The figure stood at 137.2% by December of 2021 and has continued to increase.

China no longer wants US debt and has begun to sell off its holdings. As other currencies decline relative to the dollar, US debt, and all government debt in general, no longer seems like a smart investment. We have reached a point where Congress can continue to pass bills and bribe voters with socialistic promises from their latest puppets because no one cares about the future of America. The US will be the last to fold but expect the inevitable as countries, city-states, and governments are all temporary in the eyes of father time.

The rest of the world will be trading in mixed currencies with the BRICS. Empires take a long time to build but collapse very fast, and the weaknesses Russia is exposing will embolden a lot of countries who view the USA with cynicism.

Europe has lost the energy war

The livelihoods of millions have already been sacrificed

Meanwhile, several countries across Europe are considering dimming or switching off public lights, and even adopting “energy curfews”, with early closures for businesses and public offices. And more drastic measures are under consideration — including gas rationing for energy-intensive industries such as steel and agriculture.

These measures are part of an EU-wide Gas Demand Reduction Plan, ominously titled Save Gas for a Safe Winter, to reduce gas use in Europe by 15% until next spring. Among the proposals is a provision that officials in Brussels impose fines for non-compliance if they decide the crisis is escalating dangerously.

several countries, led by Germany, have announced their intention to embrace austerity once again. “For Germany, it’s clear: we will not make use of the general escape clause,” said the German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, arguing that the priority now had to be fighting inflation. “We will return to the debt brake. We have to stop the addiction to ever more indebtedness.” For this, he added, “we have to get out of our expansionary fiscal policies, and out of the debts, so that the central bank has the space to fight inflation with its means”.

In other words, Germany seems intent on once again plunging the continent even deeper into recession through utterly self-defeating austerity, just as it did in the wake of the financial crisis. Europe is already heading for a stagflationary scenario — a situation where high inflation is associated with low or negative growth. Austerity would simply make a bad situation even worse.

Yet Russia’s leader is not the only one to blame for our current predicament. If today we find ourselves on the brink of disaster, and already facing massive economic hardship, the responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of European leaders. Put to one side the fact that waging “total economic and financial war” on a nuclear-armed regional power that shares more than 2,000 kilometres of borders with Europe could hardly be considered a sensible move, it was glaringly obvious that cutting off Europe-Russia economic relations was going to hurt the former much more than the latter, given Europe’s dependency on Russian gas.

There’s something pathologically infantile about the behaviour of European leaders: they enjoy strutting around on the world stage and making grandiose speeches about “democracy standing up to autocracy”, and yet they don’t seem to be cognisant of the real-world consequences of their words.

The Australian Greens think we should emulate Iceland and its “100% green” energy.

Iceland has a population of only 366,000 and sits astride a spreading tectonic plate boundary. There are plenty of hot spots for geothermal power.

You remember all those mangroves that were being killed in the Gulf by rising salt water — well they weren’t.

In the summer of 2015-16 40 million mangroves died across more than 2,000 kilometres of coastline in the Gulf of Carpentaria due to sea level rise . . . oops make that FALL.

“. . . unusually low sea levels caused by severe El Niño events meant mangrove trees “essentially died of thirst”.

“The key factor responsible for this catastrophe appears to have been the sudden 40-centimetre drop in sea level that lasted for about six months, coinciding with no rainfall, killing vast areas of mangroves”.

Well well, how about that? And how does coral do out of water?

Sorry if I’m regurgitating a past topic, but it won’t hurt to raise a bit of awareness.

Our 3 month old microwave/convection oven ceased working last week. Pretty short like span I think. From what I found on the internet, the error code suggested a power supply problem.

While my better half was talking with the warranty call-centre staff member, one of the routine questions asked was along the lines of: “Do you have solar panels on your house?” Once the answer was “No”, they moved on. When I was told about this, I was intrigued as to what would have happened had the answer been yes.

I might be wrong but I reckon they were trying to find a reason to void the warranty. Maybe the extremely erratic power provided (sometimes) by “renewables” such as solar panels might be a major cause of household appliance failures these days.

IN OTHER NEWS, UNICORN FARTS NOT RELIABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY: Green Nightmare: Aussie Power Prices Rising Out of Control.

Aussie Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Fiddles While Australia’s Energy Security Burns. Note this is a satirical photoshopped image.

Aussie PM Anthony Albanese testing to destruction the fallacy that renewable energy can reduce power bills.

Electricity prices rose to their highest on record – and the nightmare is set to continue

‘Australians haven’t seen a fraction of what’s coming.’

Millions of Australian households are being warned their power bills will continue to rise after the country’s energy market operator reported record-high costs.

In a report on Friday, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) said wholesale power costs soared in the three months to June.

Our Prime Minister’s response to this crisis is to stand by his modelling that renewables will bring down power prices. But even if renewables were capable of bringing down power prices, which they aren’t, by staying the course our PM is condemning ordinary Australians to years of excruciating electricity bills.

Remembers those coal plants various Aussie governments celebrated shutting down? Any of them could have taken the edge off today’s spiralling energy prices.

Remember those nuclear plants Australia refused to consider building? Nuclear plants are immune from short term price fluctuations, they only have to be refuelled every two years, and the next batch of fuel can be prepared ahead of time, ready for use. Australia has vast reserves of Uranium.

The one thing which won’t save us is renewables. If a nation of engineers like Germany can’t make renewables work, if Germany can’t sever their dependency on Russian gas through all the billions they have invested into renewables, nobody can.

There is plenty Australia could do to increase gas availability – just getting out of the way, lifting fracking bans, and letting entrepreneurs cash in by building desperately needed gas wells would be enough.

But I don’t expect a sensible response to our energy price crisis from our current crop of politicians. The Aussie Government’s response so far has been to pin their hopes on renewables saving the day, while demonising gas companies, and threatening to expropriate their gas, under emergency powers.

Projected Costs Of Generating Electricity 2020 –

    Executive Summary –

“Projected Costs of Generating Electricity – 2020 Edition is the ninth report in the series on the levelised costs of generating electricity (LCOE) produced jointly every five years by the International Energy (IEA) and the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) under the oversight of the Expert Group on Electricity Generating Costs (EGC Expert Group). It presents the plant-level costs of generating electricity for both baseload electricity generated from fossil fuel and nuclear power stations, and a range of renewable generation – including variable sources such as wind and solar. For the first time, this edition also includes cost data on storage, fuel cells and the long-term operation (LTO) of nuclear power plants. It is a forward-looking study, based on the expected cost provided by participating countries of commissioning these plants in 2025, which assumes moderate carbon costs of USD 30 per tonne of CO2.

Overall, the report provides in total data for 243 plants in 24 countries.1 Figure ES.1 provides a synthesis of the different technologies analysed and the range of their LCOEs at plant-level at a real cost of capital cost and a corresponding discount rate of 7%. Given the increasing importance of system considerations for a comprehensive comparison of different technologies, the LCOE analysis is complemented by examples of the IEA’s value adjusted levelised costs of generating electricity (VALCOE) measure for selected regions and technologies.”

Here in the US the National Weather Service cannot decide if we are having extreme heat or excessive heat or intense heat or dangerous heat (and rain!) or what, Here is today’s typical blurb that accompanies every local forecast.

Dangerous heat and record high temperatures are expected over much of the central U.S. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the monsoon will again result in heavy downpours and flash flood risks across the Southwest, Four Corners and Great Basin. Elsewhere, severe thunderstorms are possible in parts of the Upper Midwest Tuesday before pushing eastward on Wednesday.”

Netanya fire caused by lithium battery (2 Aug)

A Monday morning apartment fire in the coastal city of Netanya was caused by a lithium battery, Kikar Hashabbat reported, quoting the Fire and Rescue Services.

The Fire and Rescue Services added that since the start of 2022, approximately 121 fires broke out in Israel due to batteries, most of them causing severe damage to the apartment and the surroundings (stairwells). In 2021, a total of 214 such fires broke out, leading to the deaths of six people. That year, over 200 apartments were burned due to unsafe use of lithium batteries.

While the story is a local Israel one, I thought the last para was breathtaking. Israel isn’t a big place yet there were 214 serious lithium battery fires and six dead in just 2021. Wow.

One even called me seditious which as I have pointed out in the response I’ve fired off a response for this Friday’s paper means “plotting against the government”.

I don’t know if it will get published, but so far The Editor seems to want them. (The Paper changed hands recently and has been up-graded and may like free writing and increased public interest. I notice that the local Supermarkets now put them on prominent display in with the newspaper rather than any spare space.

On the other hand I’ve received favourable comments from others. If you have time I suggest perusal of https://pjcarson2015.wordpress.com (not recent but very interesting if you are interested in Science).
It mentions an obscure youtube from a 2010 experiment by then 9-year old Linda showing that CO2 is heated more by sunshine than is air, by simply comparing the temperatures within two clear plastic bags, one containing air, the other carbon dioxide. The 100% CO2 bag was warmer by 2°C.  https://youtu.be/HdH_G1-5YSo

    https://www.mining.com/220-year-chart-shows-no-evidence-green-energy-transition-is-underway/

Renewables only account for 30% of incremental primary energy demand meaning global economic growth has not decoupled from growth in emissions.

A new research report produced by BHP and Legal & General Investment Management titled The Energy Transition Dilemma has a number of graphs that vividly display the daunting task ahead to combat global warming.

None more so than this chart going all the way back to 1800 showing changes to the primary global energy mix. According to the authors, the past two transitions – from wood to coal, and from coal to oil and gas – took between 70 and 100 years for the new source of energy to reach 50% market share.

While technological change is certainly accelerating, the report points out that enabling technologies typically take multiple decades to effect large scale change: in steelmaking moving from open hearth to blast furnaces took 60 years, electrification of US housing stock lasted 80 years, and converting global port infrastructure to handle container shipping took around 30 years to complete.

    It concludes:

Today, low carbon sources, which in the study are defined as nuclear and renewables including bioenergy, account for around 15% of global primary energy demand (the share is higher for final demand):

That share has been growing consistently over time, accelerating since the financial crisis in 2008. Yet so far, there is no evidence of the start of any “energy transition”.
Low carbon energy is yet to supply at a global level more than 100% of the incremental demand for energy. Only when these low carbon energy sources are growing faster than (or at least at the same rate as) overall energy demand will action start to match the rhetoric.
To date, renewables meet around 30% of incremental energy demand, with the broader low carbon contribution slightly higher. Market share continues to grow but not nearly fast enough to halt the level of global emissions and decouple growth in the economy from growth in emissions, let alone start to structurally lower emissions.

UAH lower troposphere temperature over the Australian land mass, data just release for July 2022, show a milestone.
No global warming trend over the last 10 years. Geoff S
How are school teachers going to teach this? That no pupil under 10 ears of age has felt here the savagery, the existential crisis, of global warming/climate change?
By bet is that teachers will mostly teach more fibs or not mention this at all.
Thank heavens for the good teachers still in the system.

Heatwaves. I have added historic temperature data from Alice Springs and Darwin to the 6 state capitals in my previous work.
Why not download for future reference?
It is a big file, some patience please.
The digital data is free on asking for it. It is quite large also.

“Climate Scientist Andrew Dessler Proves Renewable Energy is Useless”

“Dessler thinks he is demonstrating why we need more renewables. The problem with this position is Dessler is ignoring the trillions of dollars the USA and the rest of the world have already spent on renewables.”
