Thanks David. I managed to find a DVD of this movie several years ago and after reading the list of trivia right through I’ll watch it again, I think for the third of fourth time only. I thought the trivia might have included something about the scene where Mann pulls a tarantula off his trouser leg after a crash.
The very first time I became aware of this film was at a drive-in at Mount Gambier in the early 70s where I was in a car with mates parked outside the fence, so no sound.

Here we go again. If the data doesn’t suit the meme, let’s change the parameters. They’ve redefined heatwaves, reorganised how average/mean temps are calculated and changed cyclone categories. Even the firies have redefined fire warming categories – ‘let’s start at moderate – don’t need a low category’. (Yes, I know there’s a ‘No rating’ but what does that mean?)

I love this bit:
“Past La Niña and El Niño events could be reclassified as non-existent“
We’ll just expunge any evidence of 1998 and 2016 El Niño events and claim all warming was due to CO2.
80
Typical. The JMA has consistently made far better predictions of La Niñas and El Niños, while the BOM usually gets it wrong. So it appears the BOM want to re-define them, rather than correct their prediction methodology.
70
“In other words, Dr Watkins’s hope is Australians don’t just assume it will be wet or dry based on hearing the words La Niña or El Niño, considering every event is unique, with its own nuances and interactions with other global climate drivers like the Indian and Southern Oceans.“
Similarly, Australians shouldn’t just assume it will be hotter based on hearing the words ’global warming’ nor that there will be an increase in cyclones , when we say there will be. In fact, why don’t they just admit that Australians should simply ignore anything the BOM says.

It is not surprising that sea level is slightly increasing in certain places, probably due to oceans warming and water expanding in volume, an ongoing process since the last Ice Age. Not to be ignored is land level increases or decreases as well.

H5N1 updates
Two more cases of human infection in China, following an infection and death in Cambodia.
On the scale of things it’s nothing, but the global infection rate in other animals is surprisingly large with a predicted jump to humans in due course.
Meanwhile in Great Britain, new laws will require domestic chicken keepers to be registered with das gubermint to tackle bird flu.
As part of the ongoing efforts to combat avian influenza, the government of England, Wales, and Scotland introduced a proposal on Wednesday that would make it mandatory for all poultry keepers to formally register their birds.
The new rules would apply to all bird keepers, no matter how many birds they own. Currently, only people who keep 50 birds or more are required by law to do so.
Under the rule, people who keep birds as pets or for food production (i.e., eggs) will be forced to register as well. Failure to do so is a violation of the law. They would also be required to update their information every year.
The owners are required to provide information, which includes their contact information, the location where the birds are kept, as well as information regarding the species, quantity, and purpose of the birds.
Can’t let those private food sources go untracked either now can we..

Netball Australia struggling to repay debt after losing $15m sponsorship
Netball Australia is still facing financial difficulties after losing $15m in sponsorship last year due to a race row involving a key sponsor.
Netball Australia is struggling to repay a $4.2m debt after losing $15m in sponsorship last year due to a race row.
In October the sport lost key sponsor Hancock Prospecting when players protested racist comments made by long deceased company founder Lang Hancock.
Indigenous netballer Donnell Wallam refused to have the Hancock Prospecting logo on her jersey, and was backed by teammates for her stance.
She was reportedly upset by comments made decades earlier by Hancock who, in 1984, had said Indigenous Australians should be sterilised to ‘breed themselves out’.
Hancock died in 1992.
Hancock’s daughter and company boss Gina Rinehart refused demands to apologise for her father’s remarks and ended the sponsorship deal with Netball Australia.
Five months on, Netball Australia is still struggling financially, despite the Victorian government announcing a $15m sponsorship deal that would see players promote tourism.
Netball Australia chief executive Kelly Ryan told people gathered for the 2023 season launch that the sport needed to be “very fiscally responsible” because it had “a sizeable debt that still does need to be repaid”.

210
Hang on… Hancocks withdrew their $15million sponsorship, and the Vic govt gave them $15million of taxpayers money instead. So they are just as well off as they were anyway, its just money stolen from muggins instead of a mining company.
Yet they are still struggling to pay $4.2million in debt.. Sounds like it should be bankrupted as an organisation!
Meanwhile, kudos to Gina Rinehart for standing by her principles.

I saw an article across at Renew Economy, about replacing old wind plants as they end their life, you know, how easy peasy it really will be.

The (disposal) subject should be talked about more often. When I drive through the beautiful Tablelands in Far North Queensland, it sickens me when I see the disgusting waste of money which blights the land and should be a ecological crime. Lefties probably think “wow, they look great”, but those bird chomping windmills are big ugly IMO.
I reckon they should be left to rot when their (short) lifespan expires. Generations of the future will get to see what an utter mess their predecessors made of a perfectly good situation.

Compare that to Yallourn, Victoria, where you have chimneys close together emitting some water vapour (known as toxic pollution in Australian schools).
And those Yallourn power stations have been providing baseload power 24/7 for many years.

“One source told RenewEconomy the cost of the cranes and crew to remove a single turbine is between $300,000 and $400,000. To put a new turbine up costs between $400,000 to $500,000.”
”
That’s just for the cranes and crew. That’s for erection and dismantling.
Replacement entails disposal of thousands of tons of reinforced concrete, thousands more tons of steel and concrete for new foundation pads, and then construction of new roads.
To give some idea of the quantities involved,
Blue Creek Wind Farm in Ohio with 152 Gamesa G90 turbines, and a generating capacity of 304 MW used 122,500 cubic yards of concrete for the project. “The construction of 15 to 20-foot-deep concrete foundations to support all of the 328-foot-high towers with 2-MW turbines required 30,000 tons” of Portland cement.
On average, each of these below-ground support systems used 60 truckloads of concrete (750 cubic yards)
The site also required “20,000 tons of Type I cement for soil stabilization of about 44 miles” of rebuilt roads.
Blue Creek Wind Farm offsets carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.6 billion lb/year, which is equivalent to planting an estimated 138,000 acres of trees.”
SOURCE: https://www.windpowerengineering.com/take-a-closer-look-at-pouring-turbine-foundations/
I’d rather have the trees.
Blue Creek is, “one of the largest wind power plants in the world”.
We would need at least 7 of these environment destroying monstrosities to replace the power generated by Liddell, and then another 7 more after 25 years to equal Liddell’s 50 years, (so far) of power generation.
110
Well written Scepticynic, and thanks, but it needs to be at reneweconomy.
Tempted to get a discus account and cut n paste it there.
Would you mind ?
Doug
30
“Would you mind”
Not at all.
10
“We would need at least 7 of these environment destroying monstrosities to replace the power generated by Liddell, and…..”
No we wouldnt, thats a false equivalence. With just a few units Lidell could effectively provide 24×7 dispatchable controllable as needed. You simply cannot do that with wind power andcwe should never pretend its possible.
60
Yarpos mentions this:
No we wouldn’t, that’s a false equivalence.
Sometimes, to emphasise this, we need to look at a comparison.
Liddell is now a tick over 50 years old, the oldest operational coal fired plant in the Country, a certified ancient dinosaur, soon to be blown up, with just two Units left now coughing their last, but still delivering 60% of their original rated power of 500MW. (both delivering 320MW flat line across the days left)
So let’s compare it with a modern state of the art wind plant, and until recently, this wind plant, Macarthur was the largest wind plant in Australia by Nameplate, with a Nameplate of 420MW and this wind plant has been in operation since 2012.
Now it perhaps would be unfair to compare the whole of the Liddell plant with Macarthur, because of the Nameplate difference, so let’s just compare just ONE single Unit from Liddell with this wind plant. Even so, some might say that’s unfair because this one coal fired Unit has a Nameplate of 500MW, and that is still more than the Nameplate of the whole of the Macarthur wind plant. But Liddell is now ancient and it’s Units can barely manage half ‘rat power’. So then let’s just take one Unit, Unit 4 and over that same time, since 2012, this one single Unit has been operating at a Capacity Factor of 50%, so effectively just a total generation of 250MW, and that is way way less than the Nameplate for Macarthur of 420MW.
Sooooo, the total power output from the Macarthur wind plant since it opened is 9,350GWH of power delivered to the grid.
Unit 4 at Liddell has delivered 23,800GWH of power to the grid ….. IN THE SAME TIMEFRAME.
So, an ancient soon to be retired dinosaur with just 60% of the Nameplate of this supposedly state of the art wind plant has delivered 2.55 times the power.
An ancient old clunker delivers power as it is required, on an ALL OF THE TIME BASIS, and the renewable power plant supposed to replace it delivers power ….. say look over there, isn’t that a squirrel???
Oh, and the current long term Capacity Factor average for wind generation is 29.97%
This huge wind plant, the second largest in the Country is currently operating at a Capacity Factor of 22.8%.
Wind power is a flop of the highest magnitude, and no one even knows.
Tony.
PostScript – Oh, and it looks like I’ve picked a few scabs over at RenewEconomy.
80
“…we should never pretend its possible”
True.
10
I read some of the comments at the site Tony. The comments are just so unrealistic it’s hard to image that real thinking human beings are making them. They have no comprehension of the environmental disaster that they are promoting yet alone the fact that it will not meet our societies energy requirements. The legacy for future generations from this disaster will be profound.

COVID is big one though.

But nobody is.
Ever notice how internationally coordinated the COVID/Trump hype was?
A system field tested with CAGW.
Coordinated by who, or what?
Obviously there was central nexus.
Global governments have never been on the same page to that extent.
One of the weird things is the breathless push for a global medical record system for every man, woman, child and other.
WTF?

I often struggle to make sense of the typical bag of leftists’ beliefs and objectives. Many just appear to be suicidal on a social scale, or at the very least patently damaging and divisive. So much so that the only rationale that could explain it is that there is indeed a concerted effort to destroy western democracy so that it can be rebuilt under new management.

No doubt, the first lie is often the worst. Also , in the COVID time ( 2020-2023) there have been tens of millions of deaths supposedly attributed to COVID. The worlds population has increased by probably at least 200 million in that same time. That’s maybe a bit morbid, but the numbers don’t lie.

The big story for me over the past day or so is the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank in America. This has the potential to trigger a significant economic reaction simply because the bank in question is large, but also because it is so heavily involved in one of America’s financial pillars: silicon valley tech businesses.
But perhaps even more newsworthy than that is the fact that, when their liquidity started to look dicey, they engaged in a sell-off of government bonds, but few buyers were interested, resulting in massive losses on those ‘investments’. Clearly, US government debt isn’t particularly attractive all of a sudden …
But wait, there’s more.
Despite being, IMO, a big story with potentially huge consequences, the mainstream leftist media are either not covering it or playing it down in the most outrageous fashion, presumably to protect Biden. This means even the economic news you might have relied on to manage your own finances cannot be trusted any more.
I shouldn’t be surprised.

NSW Health admits to not using their own data for advice on vaccine effectiveness
Which might explain the bizarre disjuncture between NSW Health messaging and basic reality.
Until the end of 2022, NSW Health reported the vaccination status, by dose, of all hospitalisations, ICU admissions and deaths with Covid. The purpose of this exercise was to monitor the effectiveness of Covid vaccines in the real world, says NSW Health.
In the first few months of reporting on outcomes by vaccination status, it was clear – the unvaccinated were not the ones filling up NSW hospitals, and they were not dying at a greater rate than the vaccinated, either.
Upon reviewing their own data, NSW Health should have taken their foot off the gas and started investigating. Instead, they doubled down on their messaging.
When ICU wards were full of the triple and quadruple vaccinated, a NSW Health official boldly told the Senate that the ICU data showed, “irrefutably,” that Covid vaccines reduce the severity of disease.

My take on the green press defending offshore wind, including NYT and USA Today. Some of the arguments actually go against OSW, while the sonar silence is deafening.

Good article David.
They are going to start building off-shore whale and bird killers in Australia as well, starting in Gippsland, off the coast of Vicdanistan.
Here are some brief comments from a rational website in Australia.

When an onshore windmill kills an eagle there is a body on the ground you can see.
When a offshore windmill kills an albatross, it falls into the sea a d dissapears.

The Left mock the thinking community when we point out how what they do is exactly as per Nineteen Eighty Four, but it’s true.
More books are now being rewritten to compliment other books already rewritten by Leftist activists.
1) “Goosebumps” books are now being altered to “sanitise” them without author R.L. Stine’s permission.
2) Cinderella and Snow White are being “reviewed” by “inclusion experts” as well.

Surely this must count as Copyright infringement!
Do these fools lack their own thoughts to write their own books!
40
It’s not copyright infringement if the publishers have purchased the copyright. It’s a breach of the moral rights of the author, of course.

Should be published under the name of the woke “corrections agent”.

There are rather too many highly overpaid “experts” and not enough people who actually know what they’re talking about…

Anyone noticed the bom nsw obs are out. The “highs” quoted are for times during the night. Very curious. Their systems seem to have gone awry. No rain in port macquarie yet it has rained half the night. I notice their disclaimers but this seems to be a systemic problem.
40
Certainly agree that the BOM appears to have systemic problems.

I think they should give up on metal construction as they don’t have the necessary metal fabrication skills and equipment for aluminium.
They should start on wood framing and cloth skins as per early aircraft of the West. Modern engines, even from car or motorcycle should be OK.

Similar power-weight ratio problems that will continue to plaque electric aircraft.

So the economic case for NUT ZERO is ZERO? Big surprise NOT.
But Prof Nordhaus and Lomborg have already proved the above case a few years ago.
AGAIN wasting TRILLIONs of $ on NUT ZERO is a TOXIC disaster and will seriously weaken OECD countries’ armed forces and will certainly limit our ability to defend ourselves.
But I’m sure that’s the real agenda of these treasonous swines
and for them it can’t come soon enough.

“Hanoi” Jane Fonda suggests that it is OK to murder pro-lifers.

America is a violent nation, understandably so when you remember their history of never ending wars and violent movies and pop songs.
With this in mind how does tinkering with gun laws help anything? HYPOTHETICALLY, murdering Hollywierds such as Fonda would be more productive.
20
Jane appears to have a casual attitude in general about terminating human life.

Challenging net zero with science. Lindzen/Happer
Net Zero initiatives of governments and private organizations are scientifically invalid and will lead to worldwide impoverishment and starvation if implemented, according to a paper published by the CO2 Coalition.
The 46-page paper details how the objectives of Net Zero to eliminate the use of fossil fuels and the emissions of greenhouse gases are based on analytical methods that violate fundamental tenets of the scientific method which originated more than 300 years ago.
“Reliable scientific knowledge is determined by the scientific method, where theoretical predictions are validated by observations or rejected by failing to do so,” say the paper’s authors – two renowned physicists and a geologist of more than 40 years.
The paper predicts global starvation if fossil fuels are eliminated. At risk in coming decades would be half of the world’s 8.5 billion to 10 billion people who are fed by crops grown with fertilizers derived from fossil fuels. Listed as an example of Net Zero’s potential consequences is the economic and social calamity of Sri Lanka which had banned the use of fertilizers and pesticides made from fossil fuels.
“The recent experience in Sri Lanka provides a red alert. The world has just witnessed the collapse of the once bountiful agricultural sector of Sri Lanka as a result of government restrictions on mineral fertilizer,” the paper says.

Given the Biden admin’s (neocon puppet masters in reality) push for war and now asking congress for $900 BILLION so they can go to war with China next year methinks CO2 will be the least of everyone’s worries. The USA of course is a spent force and incapable of winning so the predicted collapse is assured.
2032 is a financial focal point, 2030 a totalitarian one but the deadline is 2028 for a mortality one.
Even Martin Armstrong is now targetting 2028 more and more but his analysis doesn’t factor in certain things. 😉
