Sydney Airport car fire: Five vehicles destroyed after electric car’s lithium ion battery ignites
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12507659/Electric-car-battery-fire-Sydney-Airport.html
Five cars were left as burnt out wrecks after an inferno erupted in an airport carpark sparked by an electric vehicle’s lithium-ion battery catching fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW were called to a Sydney Airport carpark at about 8.30pm on Monday to see the devastating scene.
While the lithium-ion battery was detached from the luxury car it was stored in the lot and was identified as the cause of the blaze in the Airport Drive Mascot parking lot…
240
“While the lithium-ion battery was detached from the luxury car it was stored in the lot and was identified”… with a large yellow “WARNING damaged lithium ion battery” sticker in plain view”.. in the photograph. Some car storage place’s insurance company might be wriggling out of this one.
171
Known damaged, “stored” in the open, less than 100mtrs from the control tower of a major airport. Doesnt get much better really.
220
“Known damaged, “stored” in the open.”
Dumped, is a better description.
150
So the legal requirement for a blue sticker to be attached to the front and rear registration number plates is a good idea.

Greetings. On Friday I noted the Sydney motorway fire that occurred the same day. DM have this morning (02:04am) run another article citing both the motorway and airport fires. The nonsense elements of this “EXCLUSIVE” (their capitalised headline complete with red background) however should be just as much of a concern as the lithium battery fires themselves.
According to DM the fact that EV car batteries spontaneously combust is “The little-known but terrifying reality…”. These fires have been making headlines globally for years and the problem is well reported – a DM search using the term “Tesla engulfed by flames” throws up plenty of 2023 stories including one concerning an aged power box feeding into a charging station!.
The “little known” claim is further rubbished by the stats which report 180 fires in NSW, 120 in VIC, 72 in QLD and 59 in WA last year alone – that is more than 1 a day. But do not worry the experts consider EV battery fires to be rare. The launch of a “collaborative research program” into the issue is a standard course of action when it comes to “rare events” – just look at covid and the rare side effects “collaborative research programs” that have been undertaken by big pharma.
A curious feature of the NSW motorway incident is that it took more than 6000litres of water to stop the flaming while a Sacramento Tesla Model S fire back in January took 6000gallons to extinguish.
6+6+? – maybe it is not just the number of the beast but also the number plate of his ride.
160
As a suggestion, the Tesla technical specifications sheet should list “capacity: 6000 litres”. The capacity of my ICE car is a measly 2.4 litres!
40
Imho.. Be careful with the EV fire data.. It is under reported.
All need to understand…
The self appointed fire “experts” are rarely experts. They are not impartial.
A case in point:
A private company is formed to advise and release their “research” data on EV fire safety.
The Aust & State Govs and a certain Fire Service, then pay for and use the “research data” and media releases. As do media organisations like the ABC.
The current Project Director and “expert” researcher of the company currently holds this:
Climate Leader: The Climate Reality Project
Jun 2014 – Present 9 years 4 months
(In that persons words on linkedin)… Al Gore, former US VP & Nobel Laureate, founded the Climate Reality Project in 2011 to create a corps of global leaders to present the facts & solutions about climate change to their communities.
Ok, the same current Project Director studied at Victoria University
Diploma of Management & Leadership (Future Leaders of the West)
Initial degree… BA Journalism . Comms, PR (Deakin)
That person claims to be a volunteer firefighter and previously was a director of companies that promote EVs and has links to climate change organisations..
That person then becomes our frequently quoted “impartial expert” of Ev fires..
Ok, I am an actual fire investigator…As I stated before:.. Be careful with the EV fire data.. It is under reported.
200
This something not right about the article.
It says the battery was detached from the car and yet no EV I know of has a battery pack that can be readily removed.
Might it have been a battery pack from a portable device like a laptop or power tool that was removed from the car? Alternatively it might have been the 12V service battery which was removed, not the traction battery.
In any case, this is a problem of technically and scientifically ignorant “journalists” who are unable to understand such matters and can’t give adequate descriptions or analysis (but the same people tell us CO2 – what they call “carbon” (sic) – is bad with certainty).
There are multiple variations and inconsistencies in the online stories published about this incident, e.g. some say a Tesla, others an MG.
200
“Boss, the car is safe, I removed the battery and placed it on the ground next to the car.”
Some of the 12v service batteries are Lithium.
40
It was an MG ZS model, but apparently not a fast swappable battery.
More interesting though is this:
“The battery safety technology of the MG ZS EV and MG EHS Plug-in Hybrid has also reached the so-called “L0 level”. This means that if thermal runaway occurs, it will not spread out from the battery pack. The worst situation is that the entire battery pack will emit smoke, but it will not catch fire at all.
Another proof of leading battery technology comes from a Roewe E550, a plug-in hybrid from the sister brand of MG under SAIC Motor Group, and the first electrified model launched by SAIC Motor eight years ago.”
https://news.mgmotor.eu/the-power-behind-mg-battery-technology/
So, please explain, MG!
50
MG’s are now made in China.
40
The battery has the size of a car chassis pan, you can see it against the car behind it.
00
News reports that the car was damaged, so the battery might have been removed after a crash.
It also reports “Data from the National Transportation Safety Board, AutoinsuranceEZ found that 25 out of every 100,000 EVs sold caught fire, compared with 3474 fires out of 100,000 for hybrids and 1529 for petrol and diesel cars”
Strange how hybrids are twice as likely to catch fire. The old Prius batteries should be safer, when new.
I think age needs to be taken into account. One article I found debunking the myth showed an ICE car on fire – an 80s audi. I’ve yet to hear of a new ICE car catching light and sinking a ship.
00
And an ICE catches fire in a garage when an idiot has the battery on a charger. EVs are just as likely to catch fire long after it’s parked as when it’s driven.

Greta Thunberg charged after blocking Sweden oil port for second time
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/greta-thunberg-charged-blocking-sweden-144344041.html
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been charged with disobeying a police order on Friday, less than two months after she was convicted and fined for the same offence.
Ms Thunberg, 20, was fined 1,500 Swedish crowns (£108) by a Swedish court on July 24 for failing to leave a climate protest when ordered by police.
Straight after the verdict, the activist and others from the environmental group Reclaim the Future blocked the road for oil trucks in Malmo harbour and were again forcibly removed by police.
“The demonstration did not have a permit and it led to the blocking of car traffic. The woman refused to obey the police command to leave the scene,” prosecutors said in a statement.
She could face a harsher sentence if convicted a second time. Failure to obey a police order carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison…

Despite the model predictions and the fact that the oceans are boiling, Fall has fallen upon my portion of the atmosflat.
On schedule.
Just like 1850.
And according to the chronicles of Captain John Smith, pretty much the same as 1607.
Oh, I forgot, historical record and photosynthesis are verboten in the Climate Debate.

Coincidence I’m sure (but) our spring equinox westerly gales have arrived right on time – as they usually do mid-September – however (!) a religious cult called The Experts have loudly announced it’s all our fault as we haven’t offered enough sacrifices and our belief in their wisdom is failing…
Nextdoor, Australia is also being warned of temperatures rising… I’m waiting on the pronouncement that ‘scientists’ have discovered something called ‘summer’… apparently it’s never happened before but I’m going with the flow nonetheless.
Atmosflat – I like that.
350
Yes, much excitement over here in Australia, as it has apparently been getting hotter as we approach Summer. The BoM is right onto it and the models are probably working overtime.

‘…I’m going with the flow nonetheless.’
BoM should call El Nino pretty soon and we also have to contend with water vapour in the stratosphere, so its going to be hot.
The scientific high priests and their running dogs will have a field day accepting gratitude from an ignorant populace. This unprecedented fast rise in temperature has been caused by humanity, just as they had forecast.

Someone here last week mentioned they were reading Bill Bryson’s The Body Illustrated, a veritable trove of lithographs, diagrams and photographs, as well as pearls of humorous wisdom, such as David Wootton’s quote from Bad Medicine: Doctors Doing Harm Since Hippocrates –
“Up until 1865 medicine was almost completely ineffectual where it wasn’t positively harmful.”
Thankfully ‘medicine’ has saved my skin on a few occasions; however, I’ve saved myself from some dodgy medicinal calls, so let’s call it 50:50 even. And an Andrew Lang states, with my added introduction –
[Believers in Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming] “use statistics as a drunk uses lamp-posts: for support rather than illumination.”
Am halfway through Bryson’s book and so far he’s mentioned ‘climate change’ twice, both times pertaining to long ago natural events (meteorites and glacial periods) so here’s hoping he doesn’t wander off into the Land of 97% Consensus…
80
I’ve read it. I’ll be sporting and will let you find out on that.
I hoped he had his notebook in action for another on the full saga of the Peking Pox. By his notes at the end it sounds likely.
30
As I’ve commented before, as a student of historical torture, medicine is pretty much legal torture.
Cutting people open with knives, injecting poisons, skin grafts (flaying), radiation/chemo, implants of toxic metals and bio-incompatible products.
It’s a long list and ethics is nowhere to be seen, as the plandemic showed.

In 1957 The US conducted an underground nuclear test.
The vertical access shaft was sealed with a 900kg manhole* cover. When the nuclear device was detonated, it is widely speculated that the manhole cover was launched into space, thus becoming the first man-made object in space, preceding the Soviet Sputnik 1.
The launch speed was speculated to be about 66 km / second (148,000 mph), far exceeding escape velocity.
The problem is that, at that speed, frictional heating with the air is likely to have caused the cover to vaporise.
At the following link, a few people have done some calculations to demonstrate this, although one answer provided is that the cover did in fact go into space:
https://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/488151/could-the-end-cap-of-the-pascal-b-1-survive-its-trip-through-the-atmosphere

As a typical liberal-socialist, you can safely take that one as a recommendation.
And there’s no wokimedia mention of him doing anything in, with, about or for China.

WUWT has an article on the massive demands AI will make on our energy grids, that have not been factored into our plans.
It concludes
“Note that all this new demand for energy – renewable, coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear, all of it – will not displace existing demand; the growth will be incremental to it – new demand creation. Imagine adding 10% to global energy demand from AI alone, a number that seems eminently plausible, based on the few models in existence already. And that could be hugely understated – businesses and governments will join the AI party because they have to, and they will source power where they have to.
AI is coming at us in a massive, power-sucking wave, whether we like it or not. The very nature of its functionality and execution power, points to escalating energy requirements that we can’t even imagine.
Every single oil well, gas well, wind turbine, coal mine and nuclear plant is going to be called into service, until some energy breakthrough occurs, or the world adopts nuclear power at mass scale in a few years.”

Thousands of Old Wind Turbine Blades Pile Up in West Texas
About forty miles west of Abilene on Interstate 20, Sweetwater has unwittingly become home to what is possibly the world’s largest collection of unwanted wind turbine blades. When forklifts deposited the first of these in a field behind the apartment complex where Pamala Meyer lives, on the west side of town, in 2017, she wasn’t initially bothered. But then the blades—between 150 and 200 feet in length and mostly made of composite materials such as fiberglass with a binding resin—kept coming. Each was cut into thirds, with each segment longer than a school bus. Thousands arrived over several years, eventually blanketing more than thirty acres, in stacks rising as high as basketball backboards. Every few dozen feet, a break among the stacks leads into an industrial hedge maze.

John spend $50,000 going under cover, eventually forcing an inquiry into ASIC.
So folks is it inevitable tyranny will befall our country, that is now not so certain

“environment of scientific nihilism”
This did not originate with the ‘Pandemic’.
It existed prior in fully realized form as AGW.
‘Settled science’ …
the ultimate statement of scientific nihilism.
Only challenged by …
‘the science changed’.
Did we realize in our little corner of fringe skepticism, that we were witnessing one the most significant cultural trends since the Reformation, or since left hemisphere of human brains married the right hemisphere of human brains.
A marriage which probably made ‘science’ possible but is now facing bitter divorce.
BTW, I’m voting for continuing to disallow the Southern hemisphere of the planet to participate in Global Warming.
I can’t help it if your governments don’t realize they’ve been left out and are making you rent expensive Prom clothes anyway.

Dang that’s bad.
70
Wait until they start charging EVs on town streets in competition with bicycles and pedestrians. Speed will be down to 5 mph with luck!
20
A fundamental human right to have someone wear a mask around you??
What about a burka or a turban?? Or any other fabric..

Regarding the new 20mph speed limits in Wales, I wonder if this will actually INCREASE emissions in towns and cities? Firstly, I suspect such a low speed will require that the vehicle drops one or two gears to keep revs up and more rpm over the same distance means more fuel burned. Secondly, the time taken to traverse a newly-limited stretch of road will increase, meaning each vehicle will spend longer in that zone, while burning fuel at a higher rate per mile.
30
Absolutely.
But this will save lives.
obviously, the next step – banning all automotive transport – will follow, as Wales – & the UK – reverts to the Eighteenth Century.
Has anyone told them horses can kick?
As well as provide lots of manure whilst failing to keep supermarkets supplied.

Bowen’s claim that it would cost $387bn to instal 71 SMRs to replace the existing 21GW of NEM power is absolutely ridiculous. As usual, GenCost and AEMO modelling has been used, so immediately this figure must be suspect. Even if five 5.6GW Barakahs were used, at $30bn each, this would still only be half this amount.
It now will be interesting if Bowen is prepared to release these costings for public scrutiny.
And even $387bn is a fraction of the $1.5 trillion required if Aust went down the 80% renewables route.

Climate Activists Deface Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate with Orange Paint
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2023/09/17/climate-activists-deface-berlins-brandenburg-gate-with-orange-paint24974572/
BERLIN (AP) – German climate activists sprayed orange paint onto Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Sunday morning to urge the German government to take more urgent action against climate change.
Members of the group the Last Generation used fire extinguishers filled with paint to spray all six columns of the popular landmark in Germany’s capital. The group’s priorities include getting Germany to stop using all fossil fuels by 2030 and take short-term measures, including imposing a general speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) on highways, to cut emissions more quickly…

A graph of galactic radiation from Oulu shows changes in solar activity over the last two cycles. Galactic radiation is repelled by the magnetic field of the solar wind. Changes in galactic radiation indicate a weakening of the sun’s magnetic activity.

Apartheid alive and well in Australia…
“Prosecutions ‘frequently terminated’ to avoid harming First Nations victims: DPP. The state’s top prosecutor has warned that the criminal justice system is failing First Nations victims of crime and her office frequently terminates prosecutions involving Indigenous complainants because existing trial processes are not culturally safe.”
You’re not equal before the law already. Funny how all her reasons apply to Aborigines in Court but not to the different cultural norms of all those immigrants who do not come from this culture. The reasons she uses for tossing an Aboriginal case out of Court apply equally to Pacific Islanders.

Wokism is a religion of the worst kind. Think Catholic establishment of 500 years ago. Welcome to Country == prayers. Cleaning ceremony == purification ceremony. Virtue signalling == indulgences. Totalitarianism, censorship, persecution == Inquisition.
Boundaries are very important. Depoliticisation, impartiality, objectivity, professionalism, common law impose a fair and working system. Racism, sexism etc do the opposite.

The Woke support the Sorcery that was the vast problem before Europeans brought Christianity. Most of the Aboriginals took up Christianity as this delivered them from the abuse of witch doctors and the “Culture”.
