If you can get the Wall Street Journal or maybe find the report from Scott Rasmussen’s RMG Research, conducted for the Committee to Unleash Prosperity . . .
In the WSJ, Kimberley A. Strassel {Jan 18// print 19th} wrote:
    The Them-vs.-Us Election
Not all rich people are ‘elite’—and that helps explain America’s cultural divide.
“. . . from a subset of Americans, which he later defined as those with a postgraduate degree, earning more than $150,000 a year, and living in a high-density area. Mr. Rasmussen in the fall conducted two surveys of these “elites” and compared their views to everyone else.

Talk about out of touch. Among the elite, 74% say their finances are getting better, compared with 20% of the rest of voters. (The share is 88% among elites who are Ivy League graduates.) The elite give President Biden an 84% approval rating, compared with 40% from non-elites.”

Back in 2001 our lecturers saw the approval process for SSRIs as a statistical example of “not very ethical behaviour” and my own appraisal of the mechanism left me concerned about the value of boosting serotonin so that it allowed the overstressed neural pathways to keep working.

As I’ve written on several occasions it was analogous to putting more petrol in a car to keep it moving while the real problem, a leaky radiator, was overheating and bringing the engine nearer to seizure.

        Not good at all.

I mentioned the UK’s Post Office – Horizon IT Software – scandal.
Nobody being held responsible for an absolutely astonishing mass miscarriage of justice – hundreds convicted on trumped up – ‘because the computer says so’ – grounds.
Right – one woman handed back her CBE [‘Commander of the Order of the British Empire’ – a nice shiny gong].

Responsibility is so completely a thing of the past in the UK.
Even if it hadn’t been obvious before, here is a comment on the report on a very different matter – Child Sexual Abuse – centring on one town in the North-West of England, specifically Rochdale.
    https://reaction.life/rochdale-grooming-scandal-report-shames-britain/

    Britain is broken.
The ‘Green-Unicorn-Worship’ is only one symptom, one symbol, of that.

The USA has at least the hoped-for panacea, Mr. Trump. [Time will tell]
Here, in the UK, our alternative is a [former, he says] fanboi of Jeremy Corbyn; and a man who hasn’t got the first idea about power engineering, or enterprise, or mining, or manufacturing, or petrochemistry, or the military, or shipping or ordinary people.

The polls put Keir Starmer – a Yoomin Rites Lawyer – about 20 points ahead – although most folk are utterly appalled by the Tories rather than even vaguely content with the idea of Labour, historically spectacularly spendthrift Labour [just like the Tories have shown themselves to be].

    I weep for my country.

If only Enoch Powell had been listened to and not moked when he delivered his “Rivers of Blood” speech which was
delivered to a Conservative Association meeting in Birmingham on April 20 1968.

The supreme function of statesmanship is to provide against preventable evils. In seeking to do
so, it encounters obstacles which are deeply rooted in human nature

It almost passes belief that at this moment 20 or 30 additional immigrant children are arriving
from overseas in Wolverhampton alone every week – and that means 15 or 20 additional families
a decade or two hence. Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad. We must be
mad, literally mad, as a nation to be permitting the annual inflow of some 50,000 dependants,
who are for the most part the material of the future growth of the immigrant-descended
population. It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre. So
insane are we that we actually permit unmarried persons to immigrate for the purpose of
founding a family with spouses and fiancés whom they have never seen.

Australia should be learning from the mistakes of the UK in both “climate” policy and immigration policy.

The full speech can be found here:

To go back to that argument of the Greeks declaring parts of Australia to be Greek as a foil against the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine breaking off..

There are already “no-go” areas for whites in most Western countries, including Australia, and when the Police refuse to enforce laws in those areas we have already given parts of the country over to new immigrants! (..or ‘original inhabitants’ in some cases!)

Powell was quite obviously right, you destroy your culture with unfettered immigration from other cultures, but the best we can do is adapt to what is coming. This is the major failure of so-called ‘democracy’, where voted-in leaders enact laws they told no-one about before the election. Start learning Cantonese…

There is also a shortage – almost a complete drought – of science-educate MPs in Westminster… Australia is not alone in being led by folks who would struggle to name five planets.

There is an obvious shortage of science educated MPs in Canberra.

Albo the Commie our current PM is a classic example.

At University stydying economucs Albo became involved in student politics and was elected to the Students’ Representative Council. It was also there where he started his rise as a key player in the ALP’s Labor Left. During his time in student politics, Albanese led a group within Young Labor that was aligned with the left faction’s Hard Left, which maintained “links with broader left-wing groups, such as the Communist Party of Australia, People for Nuclear Disarmament and the African National Congress.

After University Albanese took on a role as a research officer to the then Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services, Tom Uren, who became a mentor to him. In 1989, the position of Assistant General Secretary of the New South Wales branch of the Labor Party became vacant when John Faulkner was elected to the Senate.

Albo became a PM in 1996 at the age of 33.

So Albo’s whole adult life was spent as a pollitical animal for the Hard Left of the Labor Party – Australians are now paying the penalty

Andrew Bolt: Dud climate claims hit jobs, credibility

Spare me Labor’s tears as another refinery bites the dust and workers lose jobs. This is exactly what’s meant to happen with our global warming policies but the stupidity is making us a second-rate country.

    Andrew Bolt

    January 10, 2024 – 2:20PM

The prime minister should be thrilled. Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen should be doing cartwheels.

Yes, because 1,000 Australians were told on Tuesday they’re out of a job.

No pity, please. These are workers and contractors at Alcoa Kwinana alumina refinery in Western Australia, a huge user of the gas and coal-fired electricity that’s boiling the planet, we’re told. Even causing this week’s flood in Victoria, if you believe Labor ministers.

Sure, the Labor premier of WA, Roger Cook, is putting on his sad face, being the local member and all. “This is disappointing,” he groaned.

In truth, though, this is exactly what Labor has been pushing for. Labor governments everywhere claim global warming is such a threat that tiny Australia should slash its emissions to net zero by 2050 in a futile gesture to stop it.

And as Labor has been warned for more than a decade, this means the aluminium industry will be among the first to go because it uses so much electricity, which global warming policies are helping to make hideously expensive.

Who will gain from all this?
    China, of course.

It’s not cutting its own emissions, because that’s just for us suckers in the West. It’s the world’s biggest supplier of alumina, and set new production records last year for making the aluminium we need for the 10,000km of transmission wires the Albanese government needs to hook up all its planned green energy generators.

We’re cutting our own throats. Australia has so much coal, gas, oil and bauxite – all the ingredients for making this stuff – that we should be cruising, especially with higher-than-average prices for aluminium, but our politicians and activists now make life too hard for this refinery to stay in business.

Just two months ago, Tim Flannery, the professional global warming alarmist, and other environmentalists demanded Alcoa stop digging out cheap bauxite near the Serpentine dam.

Also last year, Rio Tinto had to write off more than $1bn from the value of its own alumina refineries because the Albanese government dreamt up yet another green scheme, forcing them to slash its emissions at huge cost.

So spare me Labor’s tears as this refinery bites the dust and workers lose their jobs. This is exactly what’s meant to happen with our global warming policies.

The cost of electrity in Australia is now at least twice that of China.

Aluminium smellters consume 9% of the electricity produced in Australia.

They can now only continue to operate with huge taxpayer subsidies. They are paid even when they are not producing aluminium during “brownouts”.

Australian taxpayers have the right to know how large are these subsidies and when are they up for renegotiation as electricty costs continue to rise.

The cost of electricity in Austalia is still around half the cost of electricity in German and UK but must rise to match since our “leaders” are obsessed with the same green wet dreams of the European elites.

      140

    • #
      Graeme#4

The refinery was old – built in 1963. However,, from some press reports, it seems that state govt environmental regulations were making it tougher to run the plant and still make a profit.
I don’t believe electricity costs were a substantial factor – more likely plant age, labour costs and tougher environmental regulations.

“Russian and Ukrainian negotiators appeared in April 2022 to have tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement,” wrote Fiona Hill and Angela Stent. “Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries.”

The news highlights the impact of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s efforts to stop negotiations, as journalist Branko Marcetic noted on Twitter. The decision to scuttle the deal coincided with Johnson’s April visit to Kyiv, during which he reportedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to break off talks with Russia for two key reasons: Putin cannot be negotiated with, and the West isn’t ready for the war to end.

Johnson promised continued funding for this proxy war.

The next Russian elections are in March. Putin has an approval rating of 80%.

Who in their right mind would have any confidence in a “Voting machine”.

All votes should be recorded on paper ballots (using a pen and not a pencil as in Australia) and the paper ballots saved for auditing if necessary.

Machines could be used to read and tabulate the paper ballots with any rejects subject to visual review by scutineers.

Samples of machine read ballots should be hand counted periodicaly to ensure that the machine is counting properly.

I would say that voting machines from the get go were designed to be rigged.

What caused a flat spin in F-14’s and was it recoverable?

    Quoting from a Quora group:

The F-14 I flew was notorious for flat spins and they were usually unrecoverable. The most common cause for entering a flat spin was a very excessive yaw rate induced by the loss of one engine with the other is at a very high power setting and also with aircraft inertia coupling.

    11.7.10 Flat Spin

“The only true upright, fully developed spin in the F−14 is the flat spin. It is recognized by the flat aircraft attitude (approximately 10° nose down with no pitch or roll oscillations), steadily increasing yaw rate, and high−longitudinal acceleration (eyeball−out g). It may develop within two to three turns following a departure if yaw is allowed to accelerate without rapid, positive steps to effect recovery. High yaw−rate departures are usually induced by aerodynamic controls, resulting in inertia coupling and possibly aggravated by a thrust asymmetry. The aircraft may first enter an erect oscillatory spiral as airspeed rapidly decreases. Frequent hesitations in yaw and roll may occur as yaw rate increases. The turn needle and the spin arrow are the only valid indications of yaw and spin direction as they always indicate turn direction correctly, whether erect or inverted. AOA will peg at 30 units, and airspeed will oscillate between 0 and 100 knots.
The aircraft may also depart by entering a coupled roll where yaw rate may build up without being noticed, to the point that when roll stops, yaw rate is sufficient to sustain a flat spin. A large sustained thrust asymmetry at low airspeed (particularly at low altitude), may also produce sufficient yaw rate to drive the aircraft into a flat spin if proper recovery controls are not used. In all instances, recovery should be accomplished by prompt application of departure recovery procedures to reduce AOA and control yaw rate….”

“…. Consistent successful F−14 flat spin recovery procedures have not been demonstrated; therefore, once the aircraft is confirmed to be in a flat spin, the flightcrew should eject. This decision should not be delayed once the flat spin is recognized.’ (F-14 NATOPS Manual)

Alvin Melvin “Tex” Johnston the famous Boeing 747 test pilot never had this problem with the 747.

Johnston is best known for performing a barnstormer-style barrel roll maneuver with Boeing’s pioneering 367-80 jet in a demonstration flight over Lake Washington outside Seattle, on August 7, 1955. Bill Allen, the then-president of Boeing, had invited many aero-space and airline executives to enjoy Seattle’s Seafair aboard his yacht. Allen had asked Johnston to make a fly-by over Seafair to show off Boeing’s new airliner. Johnston performed the barrel roll during the fly-by, reversed course with a chandelle, and performed a second barrel roll on the way back. The following Monday, Allen called Johnston to his office and asked what he thought he was doing, and responded with “I was selling airplanes”. He kept his position as a test pilot, and did not get in legal trouble for his actions.

Boeing certainly sold airplane – ended up selling 1573 of the 747 “Queen of the Skies” over a 55 year production run which ended in 2023.

Watch the 747 barrel roll here

Tex Johnston barrel rolled the Boeing 367-80 which was the design prototype of the military KC-135 and civilian 707.

I don’t think a 747 has ever been deliberately barrel rolled.

A barrel roll is a 1G manoeuvre. I suspect the limiting factor is power to weight ratio.

Someone tried a dutch roll in one and lost three engines, ie they fell off.

What I speak of happened in 1972 at Amberley Air Base. Only a few years ago could I name the manoeuvre but I am yet to see it done as a spectacle, to put on a show.

On the 1st Jan. this year totally woke California was the first State to ban small petrol driven engines.
Lawnmowers and other garden care equipment can still be purchased until stocks run out. Apparently stockists have pre-planned this event and have many full containers.
People can continue to use them but contractors say the less powerful electric engines will add the labour costs. Electric ride on mowers are twice the price. A harder line is proposed in Washington, legislators are considering one years jail time and a $10,000 fine to anyone using the equipment.

How safe is it to recharge an electic lawnmower in your garage?

The batteries in all the modern lawn mowers are plug in. So batteries can be charged anywhere.

I installed a smoke detector in the garage because I charge a number of different batteries from portable tools in the garage. I have only caused a fire when I charged a small 4S LiPo battery, used in a model boat, without using a BMS. It did burn but not aggressively and was too small to spread the fire.

I do not have any lithium battery on charge if I am not in the house. That includes phones and computer. I do not charge anything over night.

All the power tools, including lawn mowers, use batteries with built in BMS. That affords some level of protection but they are all compact energy sources capable of starting a fire.

I store all my LiPo batteries in a weather sealed box outdoors away from the house. These are the ones that have the highest power density and soft packaging so most prone to mechanical damage.

The smartest approach would be to set up changing in a garden shed that is remote from the house. Something I may eventually get around to doing.

Had to laugh at this little statement from a BoM spokesperson regarding high temperatures currently in the Pilbara

“While 50C had not yet been officially recorded, a Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) spokesperson said it was possible it could occur in areas that did not have measuring stations.”

Well well, if that’s the science used at BoM. I notice that the locals are not so concerned. The Paraburdoo BoM site is at the airport, has only been open since 1974. There was also a station named Paraburdoo which existed from 1971-1997

A recent TV news report showed the folks at Marble Bar next to a display reading over 50C, while the official BOM site only registered 48C.
The Pilbara, like many areas in the Aust. interior, regularly have temps over 40C in summer. Folks work on regardless.
When I worked inland, it wasn’t unusual for working temps to be very high. Took a thermometer that maxed out at 128F into one of the buildings, mercury shot to the top and stayed there. So never knew exactly how hot it was.

Watch out for “I can’t believe he is gone” Facebook phishing posts

A widespread Facebook phishing campaign stating, “I can’t believe he is gone. I’m gonna miss him so much,” leads unsuspecting users to a website that steals your Facebook credentials.

This phishing attack is ongoing and widely spread on Facebook through friend’s hacked accounts, as the threat actors build a massive army of stolen accounts for use in further scams on the social media platform.

As the posts come from your friends’ hacked accounts, they look more convincing and trustworthy, leading many to fall for the scam.

The phishing campaign started around a year ago, with Facebook having trouble blocking the posts as they continue to this day. However, when new posts are created and reported, Facebook deactivates the Facebook.com redirect link in the post so that they no longer work.

Italian Police Unions Sound the Alarm Over Surge in Officer Deaths Post-COVID-19 Vaccination

On January 20, 2024, journalist and TV presenter Karina Michelin shed light on a concerning situation within the Italian Police Union (OSA). The union has urgently appealed to the authorities, flagging a worrying occurrence of illnesses and sudden deaths within its ranks. These incidents have sparked grave concerns regarding a potential link to the COVID-19 vaccinations. With a firm resolve, the OSA is calling for transparency and an exhaustive inquiry into these mysterious and unsettling developments.

In a recent statement, the Union disclosed a surge in health-related issues post-vaccination, marked by a mysterious rise in mortality rates among seemingly healthy officers. The rising death toll has rattled the police force, raising questions and commanding action.

“Here we have young colleagues, 29, 34, 40 years old – but people who were well. In the last month, from December 15th until today, I became aware of seven police officers who died suddenly. In the last year, we are almost at 50, if not more.”. Antonio Porto, Secretary-General of the Italian Police Union, emphasized.

mRNA Technology Is the Culprit Behind Faulty Immune Response That Prolonged the Pandemic

While IgG4 antibodies may naturally appear in allergies due to repeat immune stimulations with allergens, they are inappropriate for replicating pathogens such as Sars-Cov-2.

What causes such dysfunctional antibodies to appear in COVID-boosted people? Was the IgG4 class switch mechanistically caused by repeat injections or by the nature of mRNA technology? In August of 2023, I suggested that the culprit may be continued production of spike protein encoded by the mRNA COVID vaccines.

An interesting new preprint study confirms that suggestion. It compared the immune outcomes of three injections with mRNA vaccines against the effects of three injections of a protein-based vaccine called Novavax.

Scientists discovered that, despite all groups of patients receiving three injections, the IgG4 class switch happened only in the mRNA group.

You can see that, compared to Novavax, mRNA vaccines result in IgG4 levels that are HUNDREDS OF TIMES greater.

71% of drivers consider buying older cars due to data privacy concerns

Data privacy within the automotive industry was analyzed in a recent report by Kaspersky. According to the report, 72% of drivers are uncomfortable with the idea of automakers sharing their data with third parties. Eighty-seven percent of survey participants said automakers should be required to delete their data upon request, and 28% said they have some idea what kind of data their car collects.

Seventy-one percent of drivers even said they would consider buying an older car or one with less technology, in order to protect their privacy and security. More than three-quarters of drivers expressed concern when presented with research findings showing that zero out of 25 researched car brands met the minimum security criteria.

Forty-eight percent said they use either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, while 33% don’t have it, and 19% have it but choose not to use it. Privacy experts say avoiding these services is one way to prevent data collection. Meanwhile, 20% of drivers said they don’t use Bluetooth in the car. Forty-two percent of those who do use Bluetooth said they choose not to share their phone’s address book with their car.

When asked why they think automakers might be collecting data about them (without being limited to a single answer) half (49.5%) said they think it’s to sell it to advertisers or other third parties, while 40% think it’s to share with insurance companies, 30% think it is for safety, and 27% think it is to provide better customer service. Twelve percent said they don’t know and 8% said they don’t think automakers are collecting their data.

While drivers worried about how their data is handled, 42% of respondents said they’re worried about the car collecting their personal data in the first place. The level of concern was greatest among 18-24 year-olds (52%), compared to just 33% among those 55 and over. Young drivers were also the most likely (81%) to say they would consider buying and older car or one with less technology, in order to protect their privacy.

I was going to look in to Coles in a day or two. I did find some stuff in the ‘cheapo’ shop in the local town, including a very silly hat which I’ll probably not wear!

That little shop at least offers a range of Australia Day items, all made in China of course. Went in with the grand daughter yesterday and bought a gate sized flag.
So proudly attatched to our front gate, grand daughters comments, “ how long do you think it will last before someone ruins it grandpa”

Shop IGA or SPAR, the money still ends up at Blackrock, but pass it around the city/town a few times first. Those two businesses will be owned by locals.
Why support the people who are trying to destroy you, I don’t understand this logic.
The majors are paid to put product on the shelves and can afford to sell things a bit cheaper, what price are you willing to pay for your freedom?

I bet your both tap and go warriors to boot.

Push back now in every way possible, shop with the locals, use cash, and stop giving the people who hate you control over your life.

That little shop is neither IGA or Spar, nor is it tap and go if you wish to pay cash, as I do most of the time. I have been in there several times lately and used cash each time. I also often use cash in the supermarket the local town, not IGA or Spar either.
I use cash on the occasions I am in Colesworth as often as possible, not that I darken their doors very often.

All independents are supplied via Metcash under many brands, small turnover shops do the Coles, and Woolworths run.
Mine was Friendly Grocer when I brought it, converted to IGA.

I practice what I preach, I support the locals, I use cash and the card goes in the hole in the wall, if it is outside bank hours.

Used tap and go once, when I was caught out in a cab with not enough cash for the trip, 10 years ago.

Right now Qld is burning brown coal in Vic and paying twice the NSW rate and three times the Vic rate.

So long as the interconnectors keep working…

I wonder if Kalgoorlie has any electricity yet? Just a test to see how people cope with no power for days on end.
