AT&T said the hours long outage to its U.S. cellphone network Thursday appeared to be the result of a technical error, not a malicious attack.
AT&T blamed the incident on an error in coding, without elaborating.
Based on our initial review, we believe that today’s outage was caused by the application and execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack,” the Dallas-based company said.
Cricket Wireless, which is owned by AT&T, had more than 9,000 outages at one point but the reports had also tailed off later in the afternoon. Users of other carriers, including Verizon and T-Mobile, also reported issues but those companies said their networks were operating normally and the problems were likely stemming from customers trying to connect to AT&T users.

Brings to mind my favourite episode of Star Trek The Next Generation (or Social Workers in Space).
In Schisms, Riker is troubled by a recurring dream. They try to reconstruct it in the holodeck. To do so, they talk to the computer. I don’t have a transcript, but it was something like this:
”Computer, I want a table”. Up comes a wooden table with carved legs.
”No, it had a sloping section”. Up comes a completely different table, with sloping section.
”No, it was metal” up comes another completely different table, made of metal, which happens to be nearly the exact table from his dream.
Had to laugh. English is a terrible programming language. How many hours would it take to describe a specific table in English? Quicker to use a pencil and drawing board! Here is a video critiquing Schisms positioned at the part where they discuss the holodeck session. I wasn’t able to turn up the episode itself, but the commentary is quite fun.
“Text to realistic video” is like the classic “You get three wishes” (as in The Monkey’s Paw, Bedazzled, etc.) You get something that matches your words, but you can bet it won’t be what you had in mind. That’s going to take quite an advance: “Computer, give me the table I’m thinking of”.

My thoughts on who killed Alexei Navaln. Was this another “False Flag” murder by Britain’s DCBRNC using a Ukrainian trained SIS officer? The spokesman for all of Britains false flag operations is a thug called Hamish de Bretton-Gordon.
Sabotage is being carried out deep inside Russia by British trained Ukrainians. They are all native Russian speakers. This comes a month before the Russian presidential elections, just as happened six years ago with the Skripal poisonings.
My official guess is that the Salisbury incident was an MI6 false flag operation under cover of a military excises called Toxic Dagger. The operation started in Salisbury and Porton Down on 20 February 2018 and was the largest chemical weapons exercises of its kind in the UK. D-Notices covered the mainstream news, but MI6 was worried about the fact that the D-Notice failed to stop a report in an Edinburgh newspaper and a local piano tuner and amateur journalist from reporting that a local doctor, Dr Davies, had found that the Skripals had only experienced Organophosphate poisoning. I think that MI6 had to dispose of the Skripals’s because they feared that they wanted to return to Russia and talk about the Steele Dossier. The CIA sent someone to kill the Skripals’s, but Pablo Miller made a deal with the British government to save them, if they agree to ‘disappear for good’ by going on holiday. I would guess they are on holiday in Cyprus or have been murdered by the CIA.

“Seized Russian money could help Ukraine – There is a “moral, political, legal, and economic case” for using money seized from Russian to help rebuild Ukraine, the UK foreign secretary has said. In an effort to control the invasive and destructive carp in Australian inland waterways, Australian Government scientists have selectively bred a deadly strain of carp herpes which is meant to kill them or at least control their numbers.
It has not been released yet.
Their ABC seems not to approve although with credit to them, they didn’t blame “climate change” for the increase in their numbers.
Another thing not addressed is what happens to people’s pet goldfish, which are a variety of carp?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2023-04-01/carp-herpes-barnaby-joyce-pest-biological-control-ecology/102149754
Meanwhile, in the US and Canada, invasive carp are coming close to invading the Great Lakes.
Carp is not generally considered a good eating fish except in some East European dishes that call for white fish.
20
Nothing.
Koi are susceptible to the effects of the carp herpes. But they won’t come into contact with a waterway carp.
Almost no chance that a water bird or fisher bird is going to hop into someone’s backyard goldfish pond and transmit it, on the off chance they’ve just eaten or carried a waterway carp that had herpes.
.
And, don’t let Rex Hunt kiss your goldfish and it should be ok.

Eat more real meat/fish/eggs/dairy and fewer carbs.
I won’t be eating any non-animal “meats” or insects.
Incidentally, no one has ever found a cave painting of a salad or insect, only tasty animals that were worth eating such as bison, deer, aurochs etc..

A bit of a fail linking insects to the old meme of no cave painting of a salad. There are, in fact, many paintings of insects. I’ll let you do the internet search that you failed to do and just leave this one article here https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-creepy-crawling-history-insect-art-180979288/
incidentally salad is a modern concept post-dating prehistory and therefore no ancient cave paintings are even possible. Which leads to the unsurprising and boring statement that there are cave paintings of vegetables that people ate.
One example- Plants before farming: The deep history of plant-use and representation in the rock art of Australia’s Kimberley region January 2017 Quaternary International 489(2) DOI:10.1016/j.quaint.2016.08.036
03
The earliest record of insect art can be traced back to ancient times, where cave paintings of insects were found in caves in Spain and France. These paintings depict various insects and also show how early humans perceived and interacted with these creatures.
Insects also played a prominent role in the art of ancient Egypt, where scarab beetles were considered to be symbols of rebirth and were often depicted in art and jewelry. In medieval Europe, illuminated manuscripts often contained images of insects, which were believed to represent various virtues and vices.

“Specious Species”
“We are constantly bombarded by news about “species” – Endangered Species, Threatened Species, Vanishing Species, Loss of Species such as “Researchers estimate that the current rate of species loss varies between 100 and 10,000 times the background extinction rate” [ source: Britannica Feb 15, 2024 ]. Let me clarify that: Britannica says that the Earth is losing species at a rate of 100 to 50,000 species per year.
How can such an impossibly wide range even be considered an “estimate”? Easy! There is no agreed upon scientific definition of what a species is – so there can be no count either of existing species nor of species loss or extinction, in the present or in the past.
There are ‘equally good’ estimates of the number of existing species: 8.7 million. “That is a new, estimated total number of species on Earth—the most precise calculation ever offered—with 6.5 million species found on land and 2.2 million dwelling in the ocean depths.” [ source ] ”

There is beginning to be a murmur about property insurance, and how rising insurance premiums are a proof that climate change is real. ‘Insurance companies are abandoning areas’ etc, and the reason is obviously climate change. But maybe a big part of the reason is socio economic change? Income growth has fallen way behind costs, making it impossible for people to handle the new insurance bills, making it difficult for insurance companies to do the arbitrage of a wide network, to cover specific problem areas.
In my own case the cost of replacing the buildings has risen 420% over 25 years, income rose about 220%. Now it would get pretty gnarly if all our incomes had risen 400%, so god knows where prices would be, but still that differential is a big problem. Especially as a large proportion of property owners are retired, on pretty fixed incomes. They will squawk.
Also insurance people got into a business of whizzing numbers around on computers, and getting a cut as they pass by, and maybe they really don’t have much interest in having to get down and dirty, organising the rebuilding of communities, from the ground up?
Also land value has increased 1000%, sucking out more available funds, when making property purchases.
10
If your house was totalled, would stamp duty be payable on the rebuild contract or is that only applied when land changes hands? The reason I ask is that SD is 4-5% in NSW.
Another couple of issues is cost of timber and the absurdities of WHS. I could not afford to rebuild my double story timber home, only 24 yrs old.
I’ve let all my insurances slip and save heaps.

Remember – bank mortgages require home insurance….

Living Ecosystem Below Earth Surface Has Hundreds Of Times More Carbon Mass Than Humans
In recent years, a massive international team of scientists revealed how billions upon billions of microorganisms live miles beneath Earth’s subsurface.
Presenting their work at the American Geophysical Union’s annual meeting in 2018, the researchers calculated the size of this mysterious treasure trove of life for the first time – and it was way bigger than they expected.
They reported that approximately 70 percent of the total number of microbes on the planet live underground. In total, these microbes represent around 15 to 23 billion tonnes of carbon – hundreds of times greater than the carbon mass of all humans on the surface.
Scientists have barely scratched the surface when it comes to describing these microorganisms. However, first glances suggest that the genetic diversity of life below the surface might be comparable to, or perhaps even exceed, life above the surface. This is why nicknamed the ecosystem the “subterranean Galapagos.”
https://www.iflscience.com/living-ecosystem-below-earth-surface-has-hundreds-of-times-more-carbon-mass-than-humans-72984
Thankfully, the corrupt science is settled, so this discovery can’t affect us.

In G Earth search on Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt, North West Cape WA and you will see a massive antenna complex. If you think the houthis can build one of those to command a submersible drone, I’ve got this nice little bridge you may like. That station is ultra or extremely low frequency.
Ultra low frequency (ULF) is the ITU designation[1] for the frequency range of electromagnetic waves between 300 hertz and 3 kilohertz, corresponding to wavelengths between 1,000 to 100 km.
I am surprised at the depths that can be penetrated as quoted in that wiki article but the modulation is severely limited to bits/min without magic tricks unknown to common man.
Obviously the US Navy knows more than I, but they haven’t told me about it. I just know it ain’t easy. For someone with my depth of knowledge, impossible!

For el gordo.
To appreciate what is happening with solar input to land, it is best to view the big picture first.
I could find no simpler way to explain this than to look at 600 years of solar power anomaly over land. This link shows that in the top chart:
https://1drv.ms/i/s!Aq1iAj8Yo7jNh0kR-Y0WulTYlcbD?e=0sL9mV
This chart is based on the anomaly to the 600 year average. It varies more at the ends than the middle because the ends have greater departure from the average. The minimum around 1800 is close to the actual minimum but there is slight variation depending on the chosen reference period.
The second chart at this link shows the trend for 1990 to 2020 based on taking 1850 to 1900 as the reference period. This is sort of what climate models do because they assume energy balance at that time.
The second link shows two charts for the period of interest:
https://1drv.ms/i/s!Aq1iAj8Yo7jNh0ruDCNQAfNa5hJC?e=IN9P4t
As you can see, the top chart shows a slight cooling trend for 1790 to 1820. It has a reference period of 1850 t0 1900. It means that there was less sunlight on land in that time than in 1850 to 1900.
The bottom chart shows the trend referenced to 1750 to 1800 where it has a slight warming trend. That means that 1750 to 1800 was cooler than 1790 to 1820.
The minimum sunlight on land occurred around the late 1700s. That includes Antartica.
On average, global land is cooler than global oceans. Oceans heat the land. The oceans act as a memory thermometer for the land. The oceans do not get any warmer than 30C so the ocean surface temperature warms the adjacent land until the land gets to the enthalpy of the air column over ocean water at 30C. Once the ocean is at 30C is does not give up any more heat to land but retains that heat until the land cools down. More ocean surface in the NH is reaching the 30C limit.
The ocean heat retention is increasing at around twice the rate of the accumulated land solar energy anomaly. This is likely related to relative surface area.
The land is instrumental in setting the global temperature while the oceans provide the heat.
The presence of ice accumulating on land will eventually alter the response of the land to the solar anomaly but not much has changed in that regard in the past 500 years.
30
Thanks for all the hard work, well presented.

https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-incoming-sunlight
Is there anything in this you would like to critique?
10
I am only using a solar constant of 1362W/m^2. All the change I have is related to the orbit. Any change in solar output is the “noise” in the climate system. Orbital precession is the key driver of climate change.
It is important to recognise that there is a lot more land in the NH than SH and land has a positive temperature response to increasing solar input. Ocean surface cools or warms depending on whether it is a region of net evaporation or precipitation. Evaporation causes the surface to cool by shoaling the thermocline while net precipitation causes the thermcline to steepen and warms the surface. 30C warm pools are net precipitation zones.
The average surface temperature in SH is cooler than the NH but the SH gets the highest solar intensity and there is net heat flow from the SH to NH. So temperature increase to increased solar forcing is a response of land not oceansr. The water surface temperature is limited to 30C and actually cools when the evaporation is high.
A fundamental flaw in understanding is that the sun can warm abyssal ocean water in a matter of decades. The notion that heat comes into an ocean from the surface is just nonsense. Surface heat increases evaporation and that draws cool deep water to the surface. It is impossible to heat abyssal open ocean water from the surface if there is net evaporation. There is an important distinction between heat retention and surface heat input. Oceans are retaining more heat primarily because mid summer advection in the NH is slowing down.
At present, the increasing solar input to the NH is warming the land and the oceans follow that as well as retain more heat. This will continue until some of that energy goes into permanent ice stored on the land. It appears that the ocean surface in the Nh will get a lot more area at 30C before the snowfall overtakes the snow melt.
Glaciation is a heat intensive process. I have history to prove my point. I can replicate glaciation and ocean level fall quite accurately by integrating the sunlight into the NH.
20
‘Orbital precession is the key driver of climate change.’
OK I’ll follow that up.
Nicola Scafetta is a strong believer in planetary harmonics, however he has been severely critiqued by Willis who thinks its nonsense. What do you think?
https://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/nicola-scafetta-planetary-harmonics-derived-forecast-on-course/
10
I have had a reasonable exchange ofemails with Christopher Monckton on his feedbacks and pauses. I believe it is a fool’s errand to be talking about pauses and GHE feedbacks. The former is bound to be broken and the latter just gets into the carp on GHE. I place the SCarfetta harmonics in a similar category. The warming trend is consistent with global land getting more sunlight. The surface has been warming since around 1800. The last London frost fair was in 1814.
You only need to look at the historical record to know how important the precession cycle is. It is evident that the NH has increasing solar intensity. The fact that the NH has a disproportionately high amount of land relative to the SH means the, on average, the globe will continue to warm a lot more yet.
Snow melt is still outpacing snowfall. So imagine how much Moree snow there needs to be before it accumulates.
10
Javier Vinos and Andy May on solar forcing, Javier is big on ocean heat transport.
https://judithcurry.com/2022/09/22/the-winter-gatekeeper-hypothesis-vii-a-summary-plus-qa/
00
Javier does not understand the precession cycle. He does not grasp the geometry involved in working out how solar intensity changes.
I often refer people to the IMCCE site because this calculates solar data quickly:
http://vo.imcce.fr/insola/earth/online/earth/online/index.php
I usually set it to a range +/- 10,000 (-.01 to .01) years and time interval to 100 years. It is coarse compared to my monthly analysis but it shows the longer trends. This is the data for the summer solstice at 45N:
http://vo.imcce.fr/webservices/miriade/proxy.php?file=http://145.238.217.34//tmp/insola/insolaoutSOEJln&format=text
You see it peaked 11,200 years ago and was at a minimum 500 years ago. And dropped 42W/m^2, which makes the notion of a watt or two of supposed CO2 induced forcing minuscule.
10
The second link didn’t work for me.

‘There’s also apsidal precession. Not only does Earth wobble on its rotational axis, but Earth’s entire orbital ellipse – that is, the oval-shaped path Earth follows in its orbit around the Sun — also wobbles irregularly, primarily due to its interactions with Jupiter and Saturn. The cycle of apsidal precession spans about 112,000 years. Apsidal precession changes the orientation of Earth’s orbit relative to the ecliptic plane.
‘The combined effects of axial and apsidal precession result in an overall precession cycle spanning about 23,000 years on average.’ (NASA)

The gene edited mosquito catastrophe in Brazil.
A British-American gene-editing company has released millions of genetically modified mosquitoes containing a dominant lethal gene, each week for 27 months in the Bahia, Brazil region in a test to see if the gene-edited mosquitoes would mate with local mosquitoes carrying Zika, malaria or other mosquito-borne diseases.
A new study documents the alarming fact that following an initial reduction of the target population of mosquitoes, after some months the “population which had been greatly suppressed rebounded to nearly pre-release levels.” Scientists to date have no idea what dangers are presented by the new mutations. This once more highlights the dangers of uncontrolled gene-editing of species.
According to a new published study in Nature Reports journal, genetically engineered mosquitoes produced by the biotech company, Oxitec, now part of the US company Intrexon, have escaped human control after trials in Brazil and are now spreading in the environment.
A team of scientists from Yale University and several scientific institutes in Brazil monitored the progress of the experiment. What they found is alarming in the extreme. After an initial period in which the target mosquito population markedly declined, after about 18 months the mosquito population recovered to pre-release levels. Not only that, the paper notes that some of the mosquitos likely have “hybrid vigor,” in which a hybrid of the natural with the gene-edited has created “a more robust population than the pre-release population” which may be more resistant to insecticides, in short, resistant “super mosquitoes.”

Hands up everyone who thought it’d work.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s super mosquito.
No doubt we’ll revisit Dengue soon enough…

“businesses are no longer solely driven by profit margins but are aligning their strategies with societal and environmental imperatives” THat’s a new turn innit ? https://smartfutures.org.uk/the-rise-of-esg/
“UK manufacturing landscape is experiencing a big shift towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. A recent report by Make UK and Lloyds Bank unveiled a 48% increase in manufacturing firms setting ESG targets since 2021, with 62% now actively engaged in this pursuit.
This trend underscores an evolution in corporate consciousness, where businesses are no longer solely driven by profit margins but are aligning their strategies with societal and environmental imperatives. “
