Bowen’s $100 billion net zero transition cost blunder

It’d be interesting to see where the saintly Bowen gets his numbers from.
The usual orifice that Ministers use … ?
Here in the UK, we have just been treated to a vision of the next decade – Insulation, Heat Pumps and solar panels.
All in South London.
South London Only – https://retrofitskills.org
And they’re talking about someone [the poor s-0-ddin’ taxpayer, I imagine] paying £17,000 million, over the decade.
Government scheme – so it will, naturally, not cost a penny extra – not even a bent farthing extra. Officially.
My guess for the UK is thus at least £170,000 million, and quite possibly twice that, over the ten years.
As a minimum.
Remember, we can barely afford to fill the potholes [for a week or two], and ensure the civil serpents get their four day week – on full pay, plus Woke courses and classes.
And this is just adding insulation, heat pumps – and solar panels @ 51 degrees North, where the Sun is effectively useless for three months of the year.
In England – where clouds are known to occur in all months!
Oh – and night, oddly, occurs, well, every night.
I can’t imagine your delicious Mr Bowen is within a Trillion bucks of the likely cost.

” blunders”?
Since when have the best interests of the general public, aka taxpayers, been of importance.
Little doubt that “saving the planet ” and “protecting ” the environment are merely tokens thrown up to distract from the real deal; the “Commission”.

Here is a nice set of simple questions for Bowen et al re renewables:
https://www.cfact.org/2024/03/14/reporters-cash-in-spinning-climate-hype/
101
The biggest cost of all is the cost of back-up power to cover the unreliablity of wind and solar power.
Note: AUD $500M per Gwh is too low.
https://stopthesethings.com/2024/03/14/budget-blowout-escalating-cost-of-subsidising-wind-solar-simply-staggering/
60
As you see, backup power is not allowed so not part of the cost we are asking for.
71
That estimate is far too low.
The cost of battery back up to completely replace coal and natural gas for electricity generation is around $10 Trillion
60
Often, software errors are considered to be deliberate ‘features’. Likewise, Bowen’s apparent miscalculations aren’t actually errors bur deliberate attempts to mislead. Let’s face it, there are plenty of examples of ‘green schemes’ that were over budget but under delivered, so there really is no excuse for getting it so hopelessly wrong. One can consequently only conclude that he is lying.

French unemployment agency data breach impacts 43 million people
France Travail, formerly known as Pôle Emploi, is warning that hackers breached its systems and may leak or exploit personal details of an estimated 43 million individuals.
France Travail is the French governmental agency responsible for registering unemployed individuals, providing financial aid, and assisting them in finding jobs.
Yesterday, the agency disclosed that hackers stole details belonging to job seekers registered with the agency in the last 20 years in a cyberattack between February 6 and March 5. Data from individuals with a job candidate profile was also exposed.

Finance sector facing huge amount of cyberattacks that could leave it on its knees
The financial sector is being attacked left and right, as hackers pluck their sensitive data away like a pack of hyenas, new research from BlackBerry has claimed.
The company’s Global Threat Intelligence Report says there were roughly a million attacks against firms in the global financial sector logged over just 120 days last year.
BlackBerry describes the current cybersecurity situation as “death by a million cuts”, in which hackers mostly use commodity malware. This, BlackBerry suggests, means that there are numerous threat actors, operating independently, but still targeting more or less the same organizations.
Cumulatively, attacks on critical infrastructure accounted for almost two-thirds (62%) of all industry-related attacks between September and December last year. Critical infrastructure includes the financial sector, but also government, healthcare, and communications.
The number of new malware samples is constantly on the rise, the researchers further announced. For the analyzed quarter, the team spotted a 27% increase in novel malware, from 2.9 variants per minute between June and September, to 3.7 between September and December.

Covid vaccines cut risk of virus-related heart failure and blood clots, study finds.
Covid vaccinations substantially reduce the risk of heart failure and potentially dangerous blood clots linked to the infection for up to a year, according to a large study.
Researchers analysed health records from more than 20 million people across the UK, Spain and Estonia and found consistent evidence that the jabs protected against serious cardiovascular complications of the disease.
Writing in the journal Heart, the researchers describe how the adenovirus-based Covid vaccines produced by Oxford-AstraZeneca and Janssen, and the mRNA-based vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, were most protective against Covid-related heart failure and blood clots in the first month after contracting the virus.
In that period, the risk of heart failure was 55% lower, and the risks of blood clots in the veins and arteries were down 78% and 47% respectively, compared with rates in unvaccinated people.

FDA Warns Consumers To Throw Away Cheap Cinnamon Products That Are Heavily Contaminated With LEAD
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent out a new consumer alert, warning about high LEAD levels recently detected in ground cinnamon products found in American dollar stores and supermarkets.
The lead levels ranged from 2.03 to 3.4 parts per million, which is more than enough to impair brain function with prolonged consumption.
In recent years, more cheap herbs and spices have flooded the North American market. Many of these products are starting to turn up with high levels of lead, arsenic and cadmium. These three metals damage the brain and are especially unsafe for children. Heavy metals are harmful because they are not properly digested; they can readily bio-accumulate; and they interfere with cellular and hormonal processes, including nutrient absorption. Lead exposure in children leads to learning disabilities, behavioral issues and lower IQ scores. Cadmium and arsenic exposure is linked to reproductive issues, kidney dysfunction and multiple cancers.

South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Ivory Coast hit by major internet outages
Major internet disruption has been reported in various countries across Africa.
Outages have been reported in countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The cause of the cable failures is not immediately clear.
“There seems to be a pattern in the timing of the disruptions, impacting from the north to the south of Africa,” said Cloudflare Radar, which provides information on internet connections.
Internet connectivity in the Ivory Coast was down to around just 4% on Thursday morning, according to Netblocks, which tracks cybersecurity and internet connectivity.
Liberia at one point dropped to 17% while Benin was at 14% and Ghana 25%, Netblocks said.
In South Africa, Vodacom said that “customers are currently experiencing intermittent connectivity issues due to multiple undersea cable failures”.
A fault has also been reported on the MainOne cable system which serves Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.
The Liberian government said internet disruption had been reported from Thursday morning.
Citizens are unable to access the basic internet as well as social media across the vast majority of the country. International bank transfers are also reported to be affected while there are limited international voice calls.

Bombshell: COVID Vaccine Trials Were RIGGED To Make the Injections Appear “Safe and Effective.”
A leading expert has spoken out to warn the public about Covid mRNA shots after discovering that the medical trials for the vaccines were rigged to make the injections appear “safe and effective.”
The bombshell was revealed by Raphel Lataster, Ph.D., a renowned researcher and former pharmacist affiliated with the University of Sydney, Australia.
Lataster summarized four studies suggesting that the promise of “safe and effective” COVID-19 immunizations was “exaggerated in clinical trials and observational studies.”
The study at the heart of Lataster’s analysis addressed the biases that caused health officials and the media to claim the injections were “safe and effective” for public use.
Three types of bias may have contributed to the vaccines’ initial stellar reviews: background infection rate bias, age bias, and case-counting window bias.
Based on how most studies calculate vaccine effectiveness, Lataster estimates that even a dummy shot could be made to appear 67% effective.

Why C-19 Vaccines Don’t Prevent Infection
In the summer of 2022 I had the privilege of having dinner with Professor Robert Clancy—a leading Australian clinical immunologist and a pioneer in the field of mucosal immunology, with 260 publications on the subject.
He explained to me precisely why COVID-19 shots—designed to induce the production of antibodies against the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 in the blood—cannot prevent infection by or transmission of the virus. The trouble, he explained, is that SARS-CoV-2 replicates rapidly in the nasal mucosa and transmits to other people days before it make it down into the gas exchange region of the lungs and encounters blood antibodies.
This, he further explained, had long been understood about respiratory viruses such as those that cause the common cold and influenza, and this same quality was quickly ascertained about SARS-CoV-2.
Thus, from the outset, it was clear that the COVID-19 vaccines would NOT prevent infection by or transmission of SARS-CoV-2. This reality completely nullified any rationale for vaccine mandates.

Yesterday JC ii posted about cell phone radiation. (Thank you at #14)
Why Have They Stopped Cellphone Radiation Research?
Another article attempts to ask the same question.
The National Toxicology Program (NTP), tasked with studying potential toxins, recently announced it would no longer investigate evidence that cellphone radiation can harm animals or people.
with the thrust of the reported investigation being
noting that technical challenges are not a reason to avoid studying something that appears to cause cancer in animals.
The advice from the article
People can still reduce RFR exposure by:
Not carrying phones in pockets or bras
Using speakerphone and holding phones away from the head/body
Keeping devices away from reproductive organs
Using wired over WiFi internet
Not sleeping near phones

The Covid virus spends some time in the intricate nasal internals, then throat, marshalls its forces, then intensifies as it migrates to the lungs.
If it is unable to pass the throat, it dies.
Carrageenan assists your natural defences (particularly the hairs in your throat), diffuses & generally prevents consolidation of the virus.

Cancelled again!
– NSW Young Liberals ban me from speaking at USyd Conservative Club discussion about Brittany HIggins.
Bettina Arndt – 13 Mar 2024
Last time I spoke at Sydney University, the riot squad had to be called in to protect my audience from the baying mob of feminist activists trying to close the speech down.
That was in 2018 and they didn’t like the fact I was speaking out about their efforts to force universities to set up kangaroo courts to adjudicate sexual assault.
Having these activists trying to stifle free speech was just to be expected from the authoritarian left. But I have just been cancelled again – and this time by the Young Liberals, for Heaven’s sake. What does that say about the future of the Liberal Party when they are the ones shutting down proper debate?
Next Tuesday, the University of Sydney Conservatives Club is hosting a discussion evening focussed on the Higgins case. I was approached three months ago to appear on a panel, along with Chris Merritt, Vice President of the Rule of Law Institute, and author Andrew Urban. The young women organising the event did a terrific job putting together thoughtful discussion points including the use of the case for political ends, undermining of the presumption of innocence, concerns about unmeritorious cases being brought before the courts, damage to the credibility of the media and the impact of #MeToo.
It was just perfect for setting the scene for civilised debate for a select audience – the event was promoted solely to the Conservative Club students. Ironically the last event hosted by the club just two weeks ago featured Tony Abbott and the famous UK commentator, Konstantin Kisin, who argues freedom of speech is the cornerstone of Western Civilisation.
Clearly Kisin’s important message failed to impact on the blinkered views of the President of the NSW Young Liberals, Chanum Torres, who has just taken it upon himself to cancel me.
Yesterday he announced to the female students running our event that they weren’t permitted to include me at a Conservative Club event – apparently Young Liberals NSW has final control over the Club’s activities.
Amazingly he suggested that hosting an event which included me could ruin the career of the art/law student who was the major organiser.
It is quite bizarre and extremely alarming that this young man, who presumably has set his sights on a career in Liberal politics, should join the ranks of the thought police.
50
That’s Bettina’s mistake, right there. You can’t talk about the future and the Liberal party in the same sentence. They’re incompatible. The Liberal party is a creature of the past and wishes to firmly remain there.

Drone Swarms Are About to Change the Balance of Military Power
The Shahed-model drone that killed three U.S. service members at a remote base in Jordan on Jan. 28 cost around $20,000. It was part of a family of drones built by Shahed Aviation Industries Research Center, an Iranian company run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. A thousand miles away and three days later, on the night of Jan. 31 into the morning of Feb. 1, unmanned maritime drones deployed by Ukraine’s secretive Unit 13 sunk the $70 million Russian warship Ivanovets in the Black Sea. And for the past several months, Houthi proxies have shut down billions of dollars of trade through the Gulf of Aden through similarly inexpensive drone attacks on maritime shipping. Drones have become suddenly ubiquitous on the battlefield—but we are only at the dawn of this new age in warfare.
This would not be the first time that a low-cost technology and a new conception of warfare combined to supplant high-cost technologies based on old ways. History is littered with similar stories. A favorite comes from the time of Alexander the Great. His conquests are as much a technological story as a political one. When Alexander’s army stepped onto the battlefield it was not only with a new technology—the sarissa, a 16-foot spear—but also with a new conception of how to use that weapon in tight, impregnable phalanxes. These heavily armed formations allowed Alexander to repel Persian armored chariots and Indian war elephants and to march deep into the subcontinent.
For example, of the more than 150 drone attacks on U.S. forces since the Oct. 7 attacks, in all but one case the OODA loop used by our forces was sufficient to subvert the attack. Our warships and bases were able to observe the incoming drones, orient against the threat, decide to launch countermeasures and then act. Deployed in AI-directed swarms, however, the same drones could overwhelm any human-directed OODA loop. It’s impossible to launch thousands of autonomous drones piloted by individuals, but the computational capacity of AI makes such swarms a possibility.
20
It will change the way warfare is conducted and should become cheaper, the government is onto it.

Cockpit Mishap Might Have Caused Plunge on Latam Boeing 787
A cockpit seat mishap might have pushed a pilot into the controls on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that took a sudden, terrifying plunge on a flight to New Zealand this week, according to U.S. industry officials briefed on preliminary evidence from an investigation of the incident.
A Latam Airlines flight attendant hit a switch on the pilot’s seat while serving a meal, leading a motorized feature to push the pilot into the controls and push down the plane’s nose, these officials said. The switch has a cover and isn’t supposed to be used when a pilot is in the seat.
Boeing is expected to issue a memo related to the seat switch to airlines that operate the 787 Dreamliner, a popular wide-body aircraft often used on long-haul international flights. Industry publication the Air Current earlier reported a cockpit seat movement was a focus of the investigation.
20
‘ … according to U.S. industry officials …’
Maybe, I would like a second opinion.
10
Some commentators are saying that the seat switch has to be held down to move the seat, and the seat movement is very slow, about five seconds to move fully in. Also there is a cover over the switch. If this is true, surely any seat movement would have to be deliberate, not accidental, and could be quickly stopped.

The Fed’s nightmare scenario becomes more likely
For nearly six months now, investors have operated with one assumption leading to one single question: when, not if, the Federal Reserve will finally pivot and begin slashing interest rates.
And while Treasury‘s futures seemed to ignore the central bank’s repeated assertions all winter long, investors have finally fallen in line with the Federal Open Market Committee’s projection that it will only cut rates three times this year, not twice as many, as investors deluded themselves into believing as late as this January.
But the recent bevy of abysmal inflation reports raises an opposite possibility: that it’s not a matter of when the Fed lowers interest rates but rather if it raises them again.
To be clear, the Fed will fight tooth and nail to avoid this option. Between the bipartisan bullying of both former President Donald Trump and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has made it a priority to insulate the Fed from the political creep coming for the rest of the federal bureaucracy.
He has tried to vehemently reject calls to cut rates for the sake of the incumbents on ballots, and as importantly, he has lambasted efforts by progressives to add climate and racial justice concerns to the Fed’s congressionally authorized mandate.
As a part of this pursuit to repel accusations that the Fed is biased in either direction, it is likely praying that the soft landing continues apace, allowing it to do the three rate cuts it has promised, no more and no less.
But the data is no longer teetering between “good enough to cut rates” and “not quite yet.”
Rather we now have to wonder whether inflation is slowing anymore at all.

Diversity row erupts after Alan Turing Institute hires male scientists
Staff at AI research centre sign letter questioning ‘commitment to inclusivity’
The UK’s national artificial intelligence (AI) institute has been riven by a diversity row after staff signed a letter questioning the appointment of four male senior scientists.
Employees and researchers at the Alan Turing Institute, Britain’s flagship data science and AI research organisation set up in 2015, questioned whether its “commitment to inclusivity” was being followed in its hiring process.
More than 180 people signed the letter, which was first reported by The Guardian, after four top male academics were appointed in February.
The signatories said the hiring suggested a “continuing trend of limited diversity within the institute’s senior scientific leadership”.
In the letter, addressed to chief executive Dr Jean Innes and its operations lead and chief scientist, the staff said: “This is an excellent time to reflect on whether all voices are being heard and if the institute’s commitment to inclusivity is being fully realised in our recruitment and decision-making practices.”
The protest comes after the Government agreed to hand the institute a further £100m over the next five years for research focusing on “grand challenges” in the use of data and AI in healthcare, defence and sustainability.
Four new scientists, including experts from UCL and Imperial College London, were hired to help lead those efforts. All were men.
The staff who signed the letter to the Turing Institute’s leadership said their intention was “not to undermine” the scientists’ credentials, but they added: “Our aim is to highlight a broader issue within our institute’s approach to diversity and inclusivity, particularly in scientific leadership roles, with a specific eye towards gender diversity.”
Four of the 12 research programme directors at the institute are women.
Dr Innes, the chief executive of the Alan Turing Institute, said: “Our appointments are made through free and fair competition and on the basis of merit.
We recognise the critical importance of diverse leadership and welcome dialogue with our community about what more we can do
10
“on the basis of merit. ”
The only basis if you want to succeed.. Sure, hire second-raters of blacks, weird sexes and women, but don’t expect to keep up with the Chinese or the Russians in those areas.
“The staff who signed the letter” have had their names noted and will be hired or fired depending on the views of those over them. I suppose the nice thing about it all is that you can easily tell the strengths of an organisation by looking at their mission and then their hiring practices.

“‘Excess Mortality Skyrocketed’: Tucker Carlson and Dr. Pierre Kory Unpack ‘Criminal’ COVID Response”
“Kory shared his own experiences of job loss and censorship, highlighting the challenges of advocating for a more nuanced understanding of vaccine safety in an environment often resistant to dissenting voices.
“I wrote a book called The War on Ivermectin and the the genesis of that book,” he said, adding “Not only is my expertise on Ivermectin and my vast clinical experience, but and I tell the story before, but I got an email, during this journey from a guy named William B Grant, who’s a professor out in California, and he wrote to me this email just one day, my life was going totally sideways because our protocols focused on Ivermectin. I was using a lot in my practice, as were tens of thousands of doctors around the world, to really good benefits. And I was getting attacked, hit jobs in the media, and he wrote me this email on and he said, Dear Dr. Kory, what they’re doing to Ivermectin, they’ve been doing to vitamin D for decades…”
“And it’s got five tactics. And these are the five tactics that all industries employ when science emerges, that’s inconvenient to their interests. And so I’m just going to give you an example. Ivermectin science was extremely inconvenient to the interests of the pharmaceutical industrial complex. I mean, it threatened the vaccine campaign. It threatened vaccine hesitancy, which was public enemy number one. We know that, that everything, all the propaganda censorship was literally going after something called vaccine hesitancy.” ”
