Here is an interesting video about irrigating the interior of Australia.

Unfortunately the author isn’t Australian and doesn’t realise Australia is no longer interested in nation building projects. Even if the will existed it would be impossible because of Greens, Aboriginal land claims, the general “can’t do” attitude, excessive regulations, no cheap electricity to run pumps etc., and most importantly no money, because the money that could have been spent on this has literally been thrown to the wind and sun on wind and solar subsidy farms.

We’ll have to wait until the Chicomms take over to see such a project.

That’s a great summary of our nation David; short and penetrating.

What went wrong, and why are we unable to see the way out of this ugliness.

It’s little consolation that Once Great Britain, the USA and much of Europe are in a bigger mess than us.

The only good news, and I don’t watch TV, is that there are some extraordinary people pushing back.

I hope that we can turn the tide.

“I hope that we can turn the tide.”

Are you ready to take what comes with it?? A return to individual responsibility, unfettered business practices, a savage roll-back of the welfare system, drug addicts lying in the gutter, corruption in high places, (ooops already got that!) snowflakes being triggered, people having to WORK for a living, tens of thousands of unemployed snivel servants, no printing money against the gold standard, no inflation eating away at your savings, no Govt hospital system or education system, people owning GUNS as a right to self-defence, and no relying on Govt to save you from your bad decisions..?

Actually, now I list it out, I can’t wait!

Certainly be careful what you wish for: but to say “snowflakes being triggered“. I’m no snowflake, BUT but but….. it is getting to the stage, at least here in UK, and maybe moreso Wales & Scotland, that as Rural folk ( ie farmers & related occupations – in their service industry) that we are ( I AM ) being triggered by the incessant blatant rubbish and dogma Propaganda being fed to us Hour by Hour.
As we would have said a few yeas back, “pity a dear old Mannie or Lady could run over some of these buffoons on the street” with the excuse then of old age / poor eyesight, etc – whaddever you want to call it. they would have done us a service and just get a pat on the back of the hand and lose their driving licence. Period. Savvie? Yes it IS a Generational thing – but who wound it up to go faster and in the wrong direction ?

Make Jacinta Price the Leader of the alleged Opposition. The Libs/Nats then get elected in 2025. Job done. Then things will get done.

      And then I woke up.

      Only a dream of course.

Jacinta Price is wasted in the Country Liberal Party which is affiliated with the pretend-conservative Liberal Party.

I’d rather see her in a genuine conservative-oriented party like:

Pushing the best aboriginal spokesman in Australia into a minority party is a mistake, although on the surface it seems to make sense. I believe Jacinta was responsible for the NO vote. Along with Warren Mundine. Dutton vacillated as on everything.

Sensible people who want sensible decisions have to push for more people like Jacinta Price and Tony Abbott in the major parties.

Otherwise second raters take their places and we are far worse off. The extreme left in all parties would be planning to get rid of her anyway and it would be playing into their hands. They want her gone.

The appalling Brittany Higgins story shows the depths to which Labor and the Bad Girls will sink. And then pay Brittany a $2.4 Million reward no questions asked from public money for her performance. It is Katy Gallagher Finance Minister and Mark Dreyfus Attorney General who should be on trial for corruption. Not least because Gallagher outrageously lied to parliament that she was involved. And as Finance Minister was directly responsible for the criminal payoff to her stooge.

We saw what happened to Tony Abbott who won the election with a record majority. Assassin Malcolm Turnbull only survived by one vote. And the biggest disappointment of his life was when Scott Morrison won despite the fact that extreme Green Malcolm had done everything he could to destroy the Liberal party. Having been told to get lost by the Labor party. And no one asks about his and Lucy’s arbitrary, unexplained and unjustified $444 Million gift to themselves and their friends. Why?

Australian needs more conviction politicians. Gallagher and Dreyfus should be facing their own convictions. And the Turnbulls should return the cash, with the years of interest we are paying, $14Million a year.

I agree re Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine (I went to a talk by Warren Mundine – he’s quite a character). But I’m not sure I agree with you about Peter Dutton – he set up the No case with Jacinta Price and Warren Mundine as the leaders, and to my mind that was a masterstroke. It was also commendable that he chose not to put himself out front and centre but took the less ego-centric path. Maybe Peter Dutton is the quiet achiever that Australia needs?

Did Dutton really set up the No case with Jacinta and Warren as leaders?

I may have my timing out. But I think the Jacinta and Warren No snowball was already rolling with Advance Australia, before the Libs took an official position, and Dutton was simply smart enough to let it roll with minimal interference.

My memory of it is that he took his time. And it was only after Jacinta and Warren made a real impact that he decided to back them and recommend the NO vote. The real expectation was no position at all, playing both sides. There is nothing wrong with quiet achievers but my accusation was dithering. And looking around to be sure you are making the right decision.

And it’s a real problem for the Liberals who are overall only slightly to the right of Labor on most issues. Especially in Victoria where the Liberal leader is headed to court over his view that women are not women or not the only women, whatever the current fantasy.

And if you have strong positions, popular positions, the press label you as populist. An extraordinary accusation I absolutely detest. What’s wrong with being popular? It’s along the lines of only the swamp and politicians know what’s good for the country. Only they have the moral high ground. Deplorables shouldn’t be given a vote anyway, especially the racists who voted NO.

Hells Gates Dam can be argued to be a stand alone scheme and should be examined with a can-do attitude not a negative one. I think I have heard it could store three times the water of the Burdekin Falls Dam, which is pretty big, the wall is 1 km long.

I don’t understand the science of cloud seeding when it concerns irrigating the interior of Australia. Its been alleged that SnowyHydro have been doing it for years. As there is only a given amount of rain clouds in the atmosphere at any given time isn’t cloud seeding over the Snowy Mountains during cold months to increase snowfall (to produce clean renewable energy @ Snowyhydro) actually stealing rainfall /snowfall from surrounding areas?

      00

      • #
        KP

“actually stealing rainfall /snowfall from surrounding areas?”

Well, from the area that it would have rained on naturally, yes. A lot of the time it must form clouds but with not enough moisture at that temperature to rain, so the clouds move away. They must have plenty of data from the Tasmanian experiments.

You could make it rain on the plains leading up the slopes of a mountain range and take the rain away from the mountain tops, but it depends if your crops are worth more than the hill-top forests.

Terraforming is a good idea if carried out with due diligence.

We have covered this many times and I think the cheapest way ahead is for the Ord River water to be piped to south east Australia, on a user pays basis.

          “further research is needed”

“But the use of fenbendazole for pancreatic cancer is still experimental, and more studies are needed to determine its success and safety in humans.”

“Although these studies have shown promising results, the available evidence is still preliminary, and more rigorous research, including clinical trials, is necessary to determine the safety and success of fenbendazole as a therapeutic option for cancer treatment.”

Why, they never worried about that with Covid vaccines… You would think that with terminal cancer patients you could just call for volunteers, I would hunt for a dodgy cure much harder for pancreatic cancer than a cold.

If the oceans warmed the coral reefs would move further south to be off NSW

There is a perfectly functional coral reef in Moreton Bay, 100 KM north of the Qld / NSW border. There are corals and corals, but the factor that enables that reef is the same one that makes the Brass Coast swim-able all year round: A huge circular-ish, clock-wise running ocean current that takes decidedly warmer surface water from “somewhere in the Pacific” and runs it up along the Queensland coast.

Old, retired SCUBA divers take not of ocean currents and water temperatures. Otherwise they may not live long enough to retire or even get old.

There is physics involved, too. Atmospherically warmed water CANNOT ‘sink” to overheat deeper, colder water. A some may have noticed, just as hot air rises, warm water rises. However, the oceans are not quite like a saucepan on a stove; except when they are.

Has ANY actual “scientist” had even a brief glance ate GEOTHERMAL activity on the ocean floors?

Here’s a hint: Black Smokers and White Smokers. Not an ethnic or religious joke but, there are quite a few places where actual, often quite weird life exists at enormous depths, and in chemically “interesting” water that is HEATED by, basically, volcanic activity. Not the big KaBoom like Hunga Tongs, but more of e steady flow.

The entire planet is a DYNAMIC system. As long as the inner nuclear “fires” and the residual heat from the Earth;s formation persist, there will be life. (At least until the Sun, the ultimate source of all this, goes Red Giant and engulfs everything out to the asteroid belt; at whicjh point, NOBODY will be worrying much about anything. Unless a “planet-killer” bolide gets us all first.

The meek may well inherit the Earth, (in plots 8 x 6 x 3) but the bold, if they persist, might just inherit the stars.

“Atmospherically warmed water CANNOT ‘sink” to overheat deeper, colder water. A some may have noticed, just as hot air rises, warm water rises.”

          Interesting. Does it?

The heat expansion of water is really tiny and it is expansion which produces rising and sinking in static water. Maybe 1/1000th for 10C of warming. This is a tenth of air expansion and air gets a lot hotter than water in summer with vastly lower mass and heat capcity. So air expands massively which produces huge updrafts through Archimedes principle. But water expansion is far smaller and temperature changes are much smaller for the same amount of energy. Certainly much temperature changes than boiling water in a pot at 100C. So the forces on ocean water are mainly kinematic and centrifugal, even gravitational.

And huge water currents form, stay intact and carry heat and often at high speed, both on the surface and diving deep when they hit obstacles.

Consider my favorite centrifugal current, the Gulf Steam, a hot river which is only 100km wide and 1km deep which travels at 9km/hr. Who needs a motor? And in its 2000km journey on a great circle heats the US Eastern Seaboard, Greenland the NW Europe. Other currents turn like swimmers and go down or up at obstacles like continents, forming gyres. Cold currents too like the Humboldt.

My belief is that huge swirling ocean currents not only dive and surface and turn but also have different amounts of CO2 and when the known cycles of the PDO/AMO produce surface currents which are warmer, they release CO2. Like El Nino. Which is both why we have a warming period and why CO2 has gone up. The actual CO2 movement we are talking about in man made CO2 driven Global Warming is only 50% in 275 years. So 0.2% a year. It’s not a lot when ’emissions’ have been increasing 35% a year.

Also as a real oddity, water when it gets close to freezing, under 4C actually expands again perhaps prior to turning to ice and suddenly expanding 10%. So very cold still water actually goes up and slowly seeks the surface where it turns into ice. This is significant as the world’s oceans are closest to 4C. And if you cool 4C water, it rises.

          60

          • #
            TdeF

The other problem with rising water is the fantastic weight of the water above. The whole weight of the atmosphere is equal to only 10 metres of water. So warmer water at say 1km (1/4 of the way down) has to push aside 90 atmospheres to rise. It’s far easier to keep moving. So I suspect the major gyre currents under the water also have self contained CO2 and heat levels. Perhaps not much different from the surface layers, but move likely to move laterally as a current driven by other water driven ultimately by centrifugal force than to move straight up.

            61

          • #
            Bruce

            Good points.

The “mechanics of heated water rising seem interesting. Notice how every time you fire up your electric kettle, there is almost immediately, noise that changes in pitch and frequency “band”.

Spot-heating forming tiny steam bubbles that almost immediately collapse in contact with cooler surrounding water. A process akin to the phenomenon of “cavitation” on boat propellers. The “micro-shock-waves” of the collapsing bubbles releases considerable energy in a tiny spot. Hence the stripping of paint from your propeller blades.

Ultra-sonic cleaners also can have this effect on surfaces to be cleaned. Apart from cleaning the family jewels (no, not those….) ultrasonic cleaners are widely used for cleaning electro-mechanical bits and pieces and even “polishing” intricate brass-work on “art’ items. It is amazing how much “crud” ends up at the bottom of the tank, after the treasures are removed.

But; yes ocean currents rise and dip and change direction.Geothermal boosters? Undersea “geography?. “Coriolis Effect? Just a few more wild cards and Jokers in the deck.

During WW2 paperclips were worn by Norwegians as a sign of resistance against the National Socialists and antisemitism. The paperclip symbolises being “bound together” and, fun fact, the paperclio was an invention of Norwegian Johan Vaaler.

It depends what you mean by “that”. If you specifically mean a Nazi coup I could perhaps agree. However, there absolutely is a coup by stealth taking place whereby what used to be called democratic, representative government is being replaced by an authoritarian, totalitarian regime that almost nobody voted for. Even those who DO support this new form of government don’t really understand what they’re wishing for, and should read Pastor Martin Niemöller’s ‘First They Came”.

Fascinating isn’t it? A whole period of a country’s history is condensed to one flash.. For Jews and Germans, it is the death camps that define each side and that period of history.

No-one remembers the good things Hitler did for Germany before 1939, I wasn’t around but I’ve read that the country grew well and he was popular. The West’s major problem then was the rise of communism, and if the Fascists disagreed with communism they were allies. The middle class were worried the workers would take control and eclipse them, the upper classes worried the workers would just take control, the politicians terrified of a Communist uprising. Now we have the Communists passing laws to erase the Fascists…

The lens of history is a very distorting one indeed.

The world is currently gripped by an unexplained explosion in excess deaths and has been a big topic in UK Parliment with a number of MPs talking about it. One MP, Andrew Bridgen, suspects that the COVID vaccines could be involved.

The fact that so many politicians refused to attend the debate (as explained by Dr. John Campbell in the video above) tells me that they know what the cause is and these deaths are on purpose. It seems that what Mike Yeadon said about the vaccine being used as a tool to lower the population might have some credibility after all, or would such a thought make me a crazy conspiracy theorist, I wonder?

I don’t believe that the deaths are a deliberate objective of lowly MPs. Even if such a plan actually existed, such people would not be privy to it. I think it is simply fear of a massive uprising against the ruling class should their actions during Covid be provably criminal, along with thousands of deaths attributed to the vaccines they forced upon us.

Sure there are indeed some people high up in the food chain who knew that what they were doing was dangerous and wrong, and/or were corrupt enough to go along with it all for the money, but let’s face it, millions of ordinary citizens who took the jabs now won’t even acknowledge that they made a mistake – because they can’t unjab themselves or their children. Many just get angry with the unvaxxed whenever the topic arises.

Richard, I think a lot of people generally, including politicians, suspect now that’s the vaccines were a problem but, politicians and health officials and nurses, knowing that they were complicit in the forced distribution of them, are having difficulty facing that fact of their “non-action” and complicity.

Going to debates highlighting the problems could be a bridge too far for some of them.

        A famous case

Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy (September 13, 1918 – January 7, 2005) was the eldest daughter born to Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. She was a sister of President John F. Kennedy and Senators Robert F. and Ted Kennedy.

In her early young adult years, Rosemary Kennedy experienced seizures and violent mood swings. In response to these issues, her father arranged a prefrontal lobotomy on her in 1941 when she was 23 years of age; the procedure left her permanently incapacitated and rendered her unable to speak intelligibly.

‘We aren’t skilled in helping men to breastfeed’: Whistleblower says counsellors are being forced to support transgender and LGBTQI families on a ‘chestfeeding journey’ despite not being trained to do it

By Cindy Lever For Daily Mail Australia
      11 Jul 2021

A leading breastfeeding support group is allegedly demanding staff offer their services to transwomen and gay men who are on ‘chestfeeding’ journeys.

A whistleblower known only as Sue criticised the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) for promoting its services to LGBTQI+ families.

She said counsellors have raised concerns that they aren’t equipped or comfortable with offering support to men or transgender women because the service was designed to support a birth mother through breastfeeding.

‘We are only trained to provide peer support for mothers, not gay men, transmen, queer people, agender or asexual people,’ Sue, who worked with the ABA for more than 10 years, told Daily Mail Australia.

She said five new training videos have been released in conjunction with LGBTQI+ Rainbow Families to train 1,100 counsellors in providing support for these families.

The videos, Sue claims, have diverted counsellors from their original mission of supporting new mothers.

More on Microsoft Bing CoPilot vs Google Gemini

Question: upstart crow why say one word when you can use 47 words

    Copilot

Ah, the “Upstart Crow”! This phrase brings to mind the delightful British sitcom created by Ben Elton. Let me share a few tidbits about it:

    Title and Inspiration:

The show’s title is a nod to a critique of William Shakespeare by his rival Robert Greene. In Greene’s work, “Groats-Worth of Wit,” he referred to Shakespeare as “an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers.” Quite the poetic rivalry, wouldn’t you say?

    Premise:

“Upstart Crow” is a sitcom that humorously explores the life of the Bard himself, William Shakespeare. Ben Elton penned this gem, and it premiered on BBC Two in 2016 as part of the 400th anniversary commemorations of Shakespeare’s death.

    Characters:

David Mitchell takes on the role of Shakespeare, portraying him as a flowery show-off who can’t resist using ten words when one would suffice. His Midlands family, on the other hand, roll their eyes at his verbosity. His daughter Susanna (played by Helen Monks) even tells him that his dialogue is “a bit weird.”

    Historical Details:

Elton weaves historical accuracy into the script, drawing from what is known about Shakespeare’s family life and the lives of ordinary folks in 16th-century England. So, alongside the witty banter, you’ll find glimpses of truth and humanity.

    Will Kempe:

The entrance of Shakespeare’s favorite clown, Will Kempe (played by Spencer Jones), adds another layer of humor. Elton cleverly likens Kempe to Ricky Gervais, who, like Kempe, achieved fame and smugness. Jones even delivers his lines with a touch of David Brent (from “The Office” fame).

So, in summary, “Upstart Crow” is a delightful blend of history, humor, and Shakespearean flair. If you enjoy witty banter and a playful take on the Bard’s life, this sitcom is well worth watching!

And as for why say one word when you can use 47? Well, perhaps Shakespeare himself would have appreciated the challenge!

    Gemini:

You’re absolutely right! “Upstart Crow” is a catchy title, but it does lack detail. Here are a few ways to describe it using more words:

. A British sitcom that imagines the life of William Shakespeare.

. A funny look at Shakespeare’s struggles and inspirations as he creates his iconic plays.

. A comedic exploration of Elizabethan theater and the man behind the masterpieces.

These options give a better sense of the show’s content and genre.

When you look back at Boston Dynamics petrol cow early days you can see how advanced we are now.
The problem I have long seen was one of stability and fluidity of motion, but Atlas has done extremely well there.
Compact high energy powerpacks are the next issue, about to be resolved, as per yesterday’s post.
Lastly the matter of AGI and sentience, not far off at all.
So we’re really at the “brain” stage and pseudo-AI is not doing well:

“So I asked it (ChatGPT) to do the following:

Find the smallest pair of positive integers (a,b) such that (a/b)^2 = 2

To my astonishment ChatGPT came back with utter garbage, viz.:

One obvious solution is when a = b = 1, but it doesn’t satisfy the condition that a and b are positive integers.
      Another solution is a = 2 and b = 1. Let’s check if it satisfies the equation:
      a^2 = 2 * b^2
      2^2 = 2 * 1^2
      4 = 2
      The equation holds true. So, (a, b) = (2, 1) is a solution.

In other words, ChatGPT told me that (2/1)^2 = 2 because 4=2 which is true!”

      https://principia-scientific.com/ai-are-humans-irrelevant/

ChatGPT is an inevitable step along the path of AI, but its novelty and worth are past their use-by date, and there are WAY bigger things happening.

And yet another step forward: World’s largest neuromorphic computer by Intel works like human brain

Intel has announced the launch of the world’s largest neuromorphic computer system, Hala Point. Initially deployed at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico, the computer mimics the human brain in processing information.

While unveiling Hala Point, Intel said this breakthrough could give a big boost to artificial intelligence (AI) research.

As per the company, Hala Point processes information 50 times faster and uses 100 times less energy than traditional computing systems. Through this, Intel aims to make the use of AI more sustainable.

It is capable of processing up to 20 quadrillion operations per second (20 petaOPS) while maintaining remarkable energy efficiency – exceeding 15 trillion operations per second per watt. For context, this rivals the power of some of the world’s fastest supercomputers.

With this processing power, Hala Point can complete complex AI tasks with exceptional speed, all while consuming a maximum of 2,600 watts of power – comparable to a household appliance.

Bid to secure spot for glacier in Icelandic presidential race heats up

Standing in the shadow of Iceland’s Snæfellsjökull, – a 700,000-year-old glacier perched on a volcano and visible to half the country’s population on any given day – in 2010, Angela Rawlings was struck by an unconventional thought.

“It suddenly just came to me. What if the glacier was president?” said Rawlings. It was a seemingly unorthodox way to push forward a movement that was already swiftly advancing; Ecuador had enshrined legal rights for nature while Māori in New Zealand were working to secure legal personhood for the Whanganui River.

More than a decade later, Rawlings’ musing has snowballed into what is perhaps the continent’s most singular presidential bid, as a team of more than 50 people scrambles to secure Snæfellsjökull a spot on the ballot in the country’s upcoming election on 1 June.

Rogue waves in the ocean are much more common than anyone suspected, says new study

    Published: April 15, 2024

We used three-dimensional imaging of ocean waves to capture freakish seas that produce a notorious phenomenon known as rogue waves. Our results are now published in Physical Review Letters.

Rogue waves are giant colossi of the sea – twice as high as neighbouring waves – that appear seemingly out of nowhere. Stories of unimaginable mountains of water as tall as ten-storey buildings have populated maritime folklore and literature for centuries.

Recent technology has allowed scientists to spot rogue waves out at sea, making legend become reality. The first and most famous measurement was of the Draupner wave, a 25.6-metre monster recorded in the North Sea on January 1 1995.

Despite observations, we still don’t know how often rogue waves occur, or if we can predict them. A record of a rogue wave doesn’t include specific features that distinguish the sea around it, so we can’t make comparisons or predict the conditions needed.

Our team set sail on the South African icebreaker S.A. Agulhas-II to chase rogue waves across the Southern Ocean, where mighty winds shape Earth’s fiercest waves.

Abut 70-75 feet high [say c 21-23 metres] as it broke green water over the bridge, about 65-70 feet above sea level.
Ship came through the wave and lifted up. IIRC, during the Night Watch, 0000-0400, so no significant injury.
But damage to the bottom of the ‘bridge’ superstructure, supposed to be well clear of the sea.
Set up perhaps half a meter in places.
Naval architects all over us, when the storm abated and helicopters could fly – reasonably – safely.

‘This ship can survive the hundred year wave’ we were told.
We told them we had hit a hole in the ocean, where the three wavetrains – from the three storms – were in sync.
First the hole – then the wave.
Half a dozen seamen [all with Masters’ Certificates, so at least a century of seatime between us, even then] trying to get this concept accepted by probably a similar number of naval architects.
To this day, I’m not sure in my own mind that they understood and accepted ….

    Does this quote sound familiar?

“The electric automobile will quickly and easily take precedence over all other kinds of motor carriages as soon as an effective battery of light weight is discovered.”

That’s the Los Angeles Times in 1901. How about this one?

“Prices on electric cars will continue to drop until they are within reach of the average family.”

    That’s the Washington Post, 1915.

But let’s go back to Robert’s question: why is the Biden Administration trying to turn our future over to the Chinese Communist Party?

One explanation is that Biden was the Manchurian Candidate, and the millions of dollars the Chinese have paid him and his family have put him in their pocket.

That seems hard to believe. But what is the alternative explanation?

RINO Replicians are also in bed with China

Since becoming President Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao has come under fire for scandal after scandal.

Allegedly abusing her position to boost her family’s business in China. Maintaining her shares in a construction materials company, more than a year after she pledged to sell them. And most recently, giving her husband Mitch McConnell’s constituents special treatment — reportedly steering millions of federal dollars to Kentucky while he faces re-election.

The Department of Transportation’s Inspector General left his role while investigating these serious allegations. Now, it’s crucial that he is replaced, and quickly — so that Chao is held accountable for her corrupt dealings.

But who’s in charge of the confirmation process for the Inspector General’s replacement? Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

That’s right: McConnell and his wife are at the center of the investigation — and yet, he has an enormous say in who gets to lead it.

Eight in ten new electric cars sold at discount amid plunging demand

Withdrawal of government support for buyers is forcing sellers to slash prices

Almost eight in 10 new electric cars are being sold at a discount as the industry reels from falling consumer demand.

Some 77pc of new electric vehicles (EVs) listed on Auto Trader were advertised at a discount last month, up from 55pc a year earlier, data from the company shows.

The degree of discounting is also on the rise, with the average reduction now standing at a record 11pc.

It came as Tesla announced a string of price cuts in China, the US and Europe following a slowdown in sales.

In China, Elon Musk’s company lowered prices across its range, with the Model Y discounted to 249,900 yuan (£28,500) from 263,900 yuan.

The cheapest version of the Model Y in the US was cut to $42,990 (£35,000). In Germany, its Model 3 rear wheel drive cat was cut by €2,000 (£1,725) to €40,990.

Dermatology’s Disastrous War Against The Sun
The forgotten side of skin health and the necessity of sunlight

Skin cancers are by far the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, so to prevent them, the public is constantly told to avoid the sun. However, while the relatively benign skin cancers are caused by sun exposure, the ones responsible for most skin cancer deaths are due to a lack of sunlight.

This is unfortunate because sunlight is arguably the most important nutrient for the human body, as avoiding it doubles one’s rate of dying and significantly increases their risk of cancer.

•A strong case can be made that this dynamic was a result of the dermatology profession (with the help of a top PR firm) rebranding themselves to skin cancer fighters, something which allowed them to become one of the highest paying medical specialities in existence. Unfortunately, despite the billions that is put into fighting it each year, there has been no substantial change in the number of skin cancer deaths.

Being a white man of Scandinavian/Irish ancestry (definitely no Aboriginal) I have had all three skin cancer types

      -basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
      -squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
      -melanoma

The first and second were on areas with high sun exposure (arm and nose)

The melanoma was under my belly an area low exposure to sunlight. I had this checked early and it was cut with no further treatment required

Then there’s the case of the Aussie farmer a few years back who discovered skin cancer on his arm but just pulled out his pocket knife and removed it. A bad idea as it then transformed into a metastatic melanoma spreading through his body and into his brain.

I’m English, Irish and Scottish with a Norwegian seaman sneaking in so no tinge here, but must have inherited some Roman genes because I mucked about on the water as a boy and regularly went to school “Don’t toucha da back”. I’ve only had a couple of carcinomas so I doubt there is a link between sun and melanoma.

I am NOT speaking for northern European blonds or peaches and cream English. They may need to be more careful than I.

Perth has one of the highest UV levels in Australia. So unfortunately we also have a very high incidence of skin cancer. I’ve lost a few friends to skin cancer, and have also had a few BCCs and one melanoma removed. There certainly is a link between high UV levels and skin cancer.

The way I see it … presuming you believe that the Theory of Evolution is real, if sunlight was extremely bad then there would be no white people. At the same time, if sunlight was extremely good then there would be no black people.

Therefore we can conclude that sunlight has some good and some bad aspects and therefore (like most things) an optimal level of exposure exists which depends somewhat on your genetics. Unfortunately, the medical profession has proven very poor at conveying any nuance … and public health in particular has become obsessed with treating everyone like morons. You are better off thinking for yourself wherever possible.

Cougars in the classroom: The alarming rate of teachers charged with raping young boys in America

They say that youth is wasted on the young.

In my day at High School you would have been considerd to be a hero if you had hooked up with a good looking teacher (my sister married one of her’s!)

The Presisent of France hooked up with his teacher.

It was at the after-school drama club of Lycée la Providence that she and Emmanuel Macron first met. She was in charge of the after-school theater club that he attended when he was 15 alongside her own daughter Laurence who was in his class. Their relationship has attracted controversy, as she is his senior by close to 25 years.

It is a bit extreme to treat such relationships as “rape”. Inappropriate is a better word.

Tesco store won’t let you inside until you’ve been checked on CCTV as it becomes first in UK to introduce big change

A TESCO store has taken the extreme measure of checking people on camera before they are allowed in because of the shoplifting epidemic.

The branch in Bristol keeps the automatic doors closed until customers are viewed on CCTV to see if they are suspected thieves.

Shoppers have to wait on the other side of the glass until staff deem they are not a threat and then are let in.

The chain has also removed baskets from the store entrance because thieves were loading up with stolen goods and scarpering.

One worker told The Sun: “It has got so bad we have to check who is coming in.

“We know some of them and just don’t let them in the shop.

In case you’ve wondered about how intelligent or how artificial AI is, this tells you everything you need to know. No doubt you already knew. Crud in, crud out.
    .
    https://www.skynews.com.au/australia-news/facebooks-new-ai-chatbot-condemned-for-political-bias-after-disgraceful-display-of-favouritism-in-australian-politics/news-story/4a02d67e9c65bd0c6f11267b5715b4c1

    .

Facebook’s chat AI was asked who the best Australian politicians are.

Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke, Julia Gillard, and Anthony Albanese were declared among the best prime ministers, with Malcolm Turnbull as the sole Liberal representative.

The chatbot labelled Kevin Rudd as the most humane politician for his “National Sorry Day” initiative and condemned Liberal leader Peter Dutton as the least humane for the “Stop the Boats” policy.

What’s more, the new tool has demonstrated a tendency towards political correctness in the peculiar answers generated in response to certain questions.

When asked to define a woman, the AI tool replied, “A woman is an adult human being who identifies as female”.

It came up with a top 5 stacked with Labor PM’s: (descriptions are my own)

    1. Gough Whitlam – Labor party – sacked by the Governor General (2 years, 341 days as PM)
    2. Bob Hawke – Labor party – won 4 elections (8 years, 284 days as PM)
    3. Julia Gillard – Labor party – sacked by her own party after forming a minority government. (3 yrs 3 days as PM)
    4. Malcolm Turnbull – Liberal party (“conservative” party in Aus) – imitation Labor PM who knifed the sitting PM, took over with a 16 seat majority and turned it into a one seat majority – Ousted by his own party when he called a surprise leadership spill expecting to sure up his leadership – (2 yrs 243 as PM)
    5. Anthony Albanese – current PM just short of 2 years into his first (and maybe only) term. Initiated a referendum to have an indigenous Voice to Parliament enshrined in the constitution. Mismanaged things badly and suffered a large defeat.

What are the chances of all being Labor (or the most Labor like Liberal) and all bar one serving 3 years or less?
The two longest serving (16 yrs and 12 years, both Liberal) are not mentioned.
