      “Anthropogenic Climate Change”

Is overhyped and catastrophically used, in an un-precedented way, by too many that should know better..

A strong La Nina means floods in Australia, back to back with a wet El Nino.

BoM will be terrified to call it a strong La Nina after their recent debacle.

Its worth noting that a strong La Nina would be catastrophic.

‘The 2010–11 La Niña event was one of the strongest on record, comparable in strength with the La Niña events of 1917–18, 1955–56 and 1975–76.

Also ‘2011 was Australia’s coolest year in a decade (2001–2011)’ (BoM)

Excellent paper, thanks Don, Javier is a breath of fresh air.

‘But we can state emphatically that changes in solar activity affect the climate because that is what the climate says. The study of past climate leaves no room for doubt. The Sun changes the climate. And if we don’t know how it does it, we should study it.’

Great Pyramid of Giza from south showing the Solar boat museum
When the Egyptian antiquities inspector responsible for the area of Giza, Mohamed Zaky Nour, the civil engineer who was in charge of cleaning up the area of the Pyramids of Giza, Kamal el Malakh, and the supervisor of the cleaning process of the area, Doctor Abdel Men’em Aboubakr were finishing their work at the pyramids, they found what seemed to be a wall made out of limestone. After a lot of digging in the ground, they reached the bottom of the wall and found 42 pieces of rock that were divided into two groups to protect them against any outer dangers or harm. On 26 May 1954, the nozzle of the hole where the pieces of the solar boat were opened and everybody who was there smelled the distinctive scent of the cedar wood.[4] The ship was disassembled around the funeral rites into 1224 small pieces before being buried near the pyramids in the boat pit. The ship was fully re-assembled in 1968.[4][1]

The stones were holding down this magnificent ship that was dismantled. Some of the ropes still had moisture embedded.

The new Boston Dynamics robot. (John Connor II first posted this.)

    https://youtu.be/29ECwExc-_M

As they become more advanced, they could be used for the good of mankind but I’m sure they won’t be.

They will be used to control and destroy mankind as in The Terminator, at least, in one possible future.

We have already seen how those in charge want to control and destroy us. We saw it during the covid lockups.

Just imagine if in the more woke places like Victoria, Australia, an army of robots was sent out to enforce the covid lockups instead of police. There would be a lot of dead people, not just people injured by police as happened (actually, with the enthusiasm many police enforced covid lockups in Victoria, it’s a miracle no one did die from direct police action). They loved “just following orders”.

          Additional:
The USAF and DARPA started conducting X-62A test flights under AI control in December 2022, logging 17 hours by the time we first learned of the program in early 2023. Although DARPA’s AI agent flew the X-62A, there was always a pair of human pilots onboard to monitor the test flight and, if necessary, take control. But in those early tests, the X-62A flew against simulated adversaries.

By September 2023, the program had completed 21 test flights, including the first-ever AI versus human aerial engagement within visual range, flying against a human-piloted F-16. During that time, DARPA says the team made over 100,000 lines of flight-critical software changes, which it called “an unprecedented rate of development.”

That’s certainly an achievement, but just focusing on the dogfight is a mistake, according to Gray. “That misses the point. Dogfighting was the problem to solve so we could start testing autonomous artificial intelligence systems in the air, but every lesson we’re learning applies to every task we can give to an autonomous system,” he said.

          https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/04/darpas-ai-test-pilot-successfully-flew-a-dogfight-against-a-human/

          Unprecedented rate of development…

They’re going to need an uncircumventable “limiter” for AI behaviour, which leads me to the next concern.😎

“Human test pilots have a bit of a reputation thanks to popular culture—from The Right Stuff to Top Gun: Maverick, the profession has been portrayed as a place for loose cannons with a desire to go fast and break the rules. The reality is pretty far from that these days, especially where DARPA is concerned.”

Yeah yeah, fine , I can see why you wouldn’t want people risking themselves in unknown aircraft..

            But wait! What’s this?

“Although DARPA’s AI agent flew the X-62A, there was always a pair of human pilots onboard to monitor the test flight and, if necessary, take control.”

THOSE guys had more balls than any previous test pilots! Passengers in a plane flown by a computer that had never flown a plane before, and had nothing to lose as it will never fly itself.. So, does a computer worry about 9G turns for the pilots, or 15G that the airframe can stand?

Does anybody know where I can download a high resolution CO2 and or methane dataset for the Vostock ice core data?

The data I have found is low resolution of about 1000 years between data points.

Below are a links to data I am using but I am wanting to see whether temperature change precedes CO2 change or vice versa.

As part of the campaign to shut down Australia’s energy supply AND Victoria, the over-excitable schoolgirl and intellectual midget and simpleton who runs the state and who has a particularly annoying high rising terminal speech pattern (like many Leftists), has said, via her anti-Energy Minister, she is going to make it illegal for gas companies to offer incentives or discounts to install or upgrade gas appliances.

Ninety percent of Victorian homes are connected to gas but it is illegal to connect new homes so this applies to existing homes.

If you Goolag it, it doesn’t seem to have been widely reported.

    https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/allan-government-bans-rebates-for-gas-appliances/news-story/5c2541b9bd165831b9b23096e6d51fcf

Allan Government bans rebates for gas appliances

The Allan government has taken a further step in its push to change the way Victorians cook and heat their homes, banning rebates for new gas appliances.

    April 18, 2024 – 10:18PM

Rebates and incentives for households and businesses buying gas appliances have been banned as part of the Allan Government’s push to wean the state off the popular fuel source.

The ban, made by Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, means gas companies are prohibited from offering inducements or payments to anyone seeking to connect to the gas network or who is shopping for a new hot water system, cooktop or heating system.

Presumably such a ban would include the current version of the solar hot water system I have. As well as panels on the roof, the system has an instantaneous gas heater, for the times that the sun doesn’t shine. As well the system has two electrical connections, one for a pump to send water through the panels to stop water freezing in the panels when the weather is cold (every year) and one for the gas heater. Back in the old days the gas heater would have had a gas pilot light.

I didn’t have the system installed, it came with the house.

So what would happen to such a system on a cold night if there was no electricity?

An observation is that the system wastes water all year. If the sun is shining the pipes are full of hot water, so it seems to take forever for the water to cool down enough for a shower. When the sun isn’t shining, it takes a while for the “instantaneous” gas heater to kick in and start providing hot water.

So,..you dont have mixer taps on your shower ?

Likely it’s not a mains pressure system. With no electric power there may not be any mixing and the delivery would depend on gravity feed. The bottom of the tank would be regulated to a maximum of 60 Celsius but the top is not regulated so it could be well above 60 degreeC.

Our Esteemed Minister for Energy does not even know how energy is measured.

Energy is measured in Joules or Watt-Hours where one Watt-Hour equals 3,600 joules.

The recently closed Liddell Power Station had a “Power” output of 2,000 megawatts (MW) or 2 GW

There are 8760 hours in a year
    l
The maximum annual energy output of Liddel would have been 2 times 8760 = 17520 GWh

Mr Bowen (the other half of Dumb and Dumber) believes that a “Big Battery” rated at 2 GW can replace a 2 GW coal power station.

However, such batteries can only provide around 8 GWh of energy before they need to be recharged (assuming a full discharge cycle).

A long way short of the energy that can be provided by a coal fired power station of a rated capacity of 2 GW

Such gross ignorance is leading Australia into economic disaster and we are not alone.

As always, they speak of the wrong units, MW instead of MWh. But if these are the usual 4-hour batteries, 6000 MW would be 24,000 MWh. Now we’re up to about an hour and 25 minutes of storage for the State, versus a basic requirement of 720 hours. And that paltry amount will run us (at $150/kWh) at least $3.6 billion.

And California is no more numerate. Here’s a Los Angeles Times piece from October 2023 with figures on California’s plans for battery storage to back up its wind/solar-based grid:

If California is going to meet its ambitious goals to transition from electricity using fossil fuels, the state will need energy storage to shoulder a significant amount of the load. . . . Four years ago, the state counted a mere 250 megawatts of battery storage available to the California Independent System Operator, which manages the grid for 80% of the state and a small part of Nevada. By the end of this year, that number is expected to grow to 8,000 megawatts. And the amount of battery storage integrated fully into the grid is expected to increase to 19,500 megawatts by 2035 and 52,000 megawatts by 2045.

Once again, it’s the usual MW instead of MWh. But assume that that 52,000 MW in 2045 will be 4-hour duration batteries, so 208,000 MWh. At $150/kWh, that will cost California a cool $31.2 billion. And how long will that last if it starts fully charged and the wind is calm at night? This federal Department of Energy webpage gives California’s current annual electricity demand as 259.5 TWh, or 259,500 GWh. Divide by 8760 (hours in a year) and you get average demand of about 30,000 MW. So the 208,000 MWh of storage will last about seven hours. You’ll need about a hundred times that amount — at a cost of $3+ trillion — to get the 720 hours of storage that you will need.

Note: US$ 150 per kWh for battery storage is far too low

What of all the other suppliers of home solar batteries? Do they not have similar problems?

The adds are refering to batterypacks that use a particular batch(s) of LG manufactured cells that have been shown to have a manufacturing defect which could lead to failure and fire .
Those cells have been used in batteries with various retail brand names other than the main LG models.
Many of the other battery brands ( eg ..Tesla, BYD, etc etc) use different cell chemistry and construction which has not shown the tendency to fail at the same unaccepable rate.

At the moment there is mass unemployment, particularly among newly graduated university students. A lot of young people are sleeping in the streets.

Anyway, there is a consumer boycott because wages are being cut across the board and many workers haven’t be paid for months.

The collapse of the real estate market is burning everyone, except those lying down flat.

Inflation is bad, yet manageable, deflation leads to depression.

“Strongly advise against touring China at the moment, unless you want to witness the fall of the CCP in real time.”

Not many places left to go El G… Avoid the USA, Europe, Middle East, a lot of Africa and some of South America. Turmoil all over the world!

The thing is, do Chinese citizens believe in their system like Aussies believe in theirs?? How many are willing to risk the dangerous upheaval of a revolution compared to those who got vaccinated and stayed at home when told to. No matter how bad the economy gets in each of those countries, the people will still believe their system is the best at the time and just soldier on.

The fall of a Govt doesn’t interest the peasants, one ruler is the same as the next, so only those with a deeply vested interest like politicians & their business cronies, care about who is in power.

China has a long history of peasant uprisings, but on this occasion the middle class has to step up.

Chinese citizens no longer have faith in the CCP getting them out of economic depression.

The political system in China is complex, with the princelings manoeuvring for power, but nobody stands out as a future leader. It would be a poison chalice, so in that environment democracy should flourish.

Putin and Xi are old world dictators, they kill or disappear anyone who might threaten them. The military leaders in China and Russia are being purged, this is not going to end well for the dictators.

“It would be a poison chalice, so in that environment democracy should flourish.”

Haha!! Classic… Happens all the time when the Left get into power, wreck the social system, throw the money around, ruin the economy so debt becomes crazy and then resign for a UN job somewhere and lose the election so the Right have to fix it all. An icon of democracy!

“Chinese citizens no longer have faith in the CCP getting them out of economic depression.”

They are learning about stuff the West already know! How’s all that helicopter money doing since 2008?? Is the can kicked out of sight down the road yet?

China seems to have compressed the timeframe for Govt stimulation leading to a boom then to a crash to Govt stimulation… They will learn..

We in the West have never learned about the consequences of having Govt throw money at favoured companies and try to pick winners with giant useless projects.

“The military leaders in China and Russia are being purged, ”

Ah, something to do with actual war showing up deficiencies in the leaders of the time, and china will be preparing by watching Russia

The sub prime disaster had an impact around the globe, but the China real estate meltdown probably won’t have the same effect.

So you are arguing that the left of politics spend like drunken sailors, surely that is a generalisation. Turnbull organised Snowy Hydro 2, a white elephant.

Premier Xi is a nasty piece of work.

Just read your recommendation Old Ozzie & had a huge laugh. Husband & I have travelled to most of the corners of the globe. Husband is a good driver & mechanically minded so that has mostly involved rental cars – even in the most inhospitable regions.

A few years ago – pre Covid we noticed a short China deal as you mentioned & decided to chance it. I had been to China a few times before, but husband hadn’t been for a few years & was keen to see Beijing as for some reason he hadn’t passed through.

What a disaster the short, cheap trip proved to be! Through no fault of our own we missed our connecting flight from HK to Beijing & finally arrived there in the early hours of the morning with no expected guide to meet us. When finally collected several hours later, with no sleep, we were informed we were to start an immediate tour!

Our group proved to be full of Canberra public servants who refused to criticise any slack and disgraceful practices of the company. It was a nightmare trip. You get what you pay for mostly, & it was the trip from hell, overall.

        Vicki.

Since I had been to Tokyo/Japan around 50 times on Business, My Wife & one of her Sisters booked a 7 day TripaDeal to Japan in August last year (2023). flying into Handeda and out of Osaka – other than flying Phillipine Airlines by Manila (never again), amazing, non stop trip and saw more of Japan than I have seen – incredible value again

One of the young Guys I worked with at Japan Airlines (did business over 30 years) came out to Sydney in February this year, and with one of my ex-employees had lunch with him at Garfish Manly where I paid for the meal and supplied Saki, 2 reds, Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz & Serrat Shiraz Viogner and Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay Aged Release 2017

He came with a big thank you 2xA4 card from all the people I had worked with at JAL over the years, and we have agreed for me to travel up to Japan end of June this year and (without Wives) go on a road trip of Japan staying at typical Japanese accommodation and see non-tourist Japan

Looking at doing the TripaDeal Stans trip this year as well

Boy is this going to ruffle Greta and Gore’s feathers!!

Ian Rutherford Plimer is an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne, professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide, and the director of multiple mineral exploration and mining companies .He has published 130 scientific papers, six books and edited the Encyclopedia of Geology.

    Born 12th Feb 1946
Earth Science , Geology, Mining Engineering
University of New England ,University of Newcastle,University of Melbourne,University of Adelaide
University of New South Wales ,Macquarie University

Thesis: The pipe deposits of tungsten-molybdenum-bismuth in eastern Australia (1976)

Notable awards: Eureka Prize (1995, 2002),Centenary Medal(2003), Clarke Medal (2004)

Where Does the Carbon Dioxide Really Come From?

Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better!

If you’ve read his book you will agree; this is a good summary.

PLIMER: “Okay, here’s the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland. Since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of you.

Of course, you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – its that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.

I know….it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kids “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacation in Bali getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cent light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs….. well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.

The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just four days – yes, FOUR DAYS – by that volcano in Iceland which has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud at any one time – EVERY DAY.

I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in all its years on earth.

Yes, folks, Mt. Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it.

Of course, I shouldn’t spoil this ‘touchy-feely tree-hugging’ moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well-recognized 800-year global heating and cooling cycle, which keeps happening despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.

And I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years. And it happens every year. Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you, on the basis of the bogus ‘human-caused’ climate-change scenario.

Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention ‘Global Warming’ anymore, but just “Climate Change” – you know why?

It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull**** artists got caught with their pants down. And, just keep in mind that you might yet be stuck with an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer.

It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.

But, hey, relax…give the world a hug and have a nice day!”

Why do the MSM not publish anything about Ian Plimer, why do political parties not even acknowledge Ian Plimer???

Love Ian Plimer. Have read his expert commentary for years. No climate activist will debate him which shows what a peculiar emotional entanglement they have with their fixation.

72-year-old patient had COVID for record 613 days, accumulated over 50 mutations from virus before it killed him

A Dutch man with the longest case of COVID infection ever recorded suffered from the sickness for a record 613 days, with the ailment mutating into a unique new variant that baffled medical researchers.

The 72-year-old unnamed patient was diagnosed with the omicron variant in February 2022, according to Time, citing research from the University of Amsterdam.

It is the longest time anyone has been infected with the virus, researchers said.

The patient, who had already been suffering from a blood disease before contracting COVID, immune system failed to produce enough white blood cells or antibodies to combat the virus despite receiving the vaccine multiple times.

    FWIW –

Covid jabs and “The more they learned the more the worser grew”

“Brett explained the one thing that scientists should be talking about, but aren’t:

It is likely that many of the deaths that occur as a result of these shots, it’s the result of the mRNA platform itself. That anything you load it on to that platform would produce many of these pathologies, because the platform itself is deeply flawed.
The mRNA is a genetic message loaded into this platform surrounded by something called lipid nanoparticle. If these lipid nanoparticles stayed in your deltoid muscle then their consequence would be localized…But they don’t stay in your deltoid. They circulate around the body.
So when they get absorbed they trigger the cells that have taken them up to produce this protein. Your immune system is built so that it recognizes cells producing a protein that you do not ordinarily make, and it targets those cells and destroys them. Like viral infection. Basically the mRNA shots are a pseudo virus.
The immune system treats them like they’re virally infected cells, and destroys them. If that happens in your liver, it’s not that serious. But if that happens in your heart it’s potentially devastating.”

Aussies ‘locked out’ of national parks to protect cultural heritage

A growing number of Australia’s most beautiful natural environments are being closed off to the public for opaque cultural heritage reasons, with one commentator labelling it a “crazy” trend that’s creating “bad vibes” between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

In NSW, the four-year closure of Mount Warning in the Northern Rivers region’s Wollumbin National Park has been a long-simmering controversy.

The breathtaking mountain, which once attracted more than 100,000 people a year, was initially closed to the public amid Covid restrictions in 2020 and in 2021, the local Aboriginal owners requested the track be closed permanently.

The Wollumbin Aboriginal Place Management plan stated that the mountain was considered a “men’s site” and that the “sanctity” of Wollumbin Aboriginal Place “may also manifest physically”, making people sick or putting women in “physical danger”.

      John,
In the mid 1970s one of our corporate lawyers and I submitted words re the proposal to make a huge Kakadu park. Among those words, we repeated that the greens wanted to lock people out. Also, that parks are their own enemy if they attract crowds – crowds destroy.
In the event, they created Kakadu over our mineral exploration licences, no compensation to us. One of the first visible acts was hundreds of signs saying, in effect, no unauthorised access. It is just so dumb, when new laws are made by city folk who have little idea of what they do.
