‘No restrictions on unvaccinated’ decrees India’s Supreme Court, orders gov’t to make side effect data public

The Supreme Court on Monday said that no person can be forced to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and directed the Central government to make public adverse effects of vaccination.

A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai said bodily autonomy and integrity are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution. The top court said the current COVID-19 vaccine policy cannot be said to be manifestly arbitrary and unreasonable.

“Till numbers are low, we suggest that relevant orders are followed and no restriction is imposed on unvaccinated individuals on access to public areas or recall the same if already not done,” the bench said.

Regarding segregation of vaccine trial data, subject to privacy of individuals, all trials conducted and to be subsequently conducted, all data must be made available to the public without further delay, it said.

“Regarding segregation of vaccine trial data, subject to privacy of individuals, all trials conducted and to be subsequently conducted, all data must be made available to the public without further delay,” the court said.

The apex court also directed the Union of India to publish reports on adverse events of vaccines from the public and doctors on a publicly accessible system without compromising the data of individuals.

The court delivered the judgement on a plea filed by Jacob Puliyel seeking directions for disclosure of data on clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines and post-jab cases.

Indeed that’s one of the clear signs of the fall of all past empires. We are now witnessing the Western empire collapsing as we speak. Let’s see how long it takes. Of course it will be faster under the ALP+Greens.

        Peter,

I can’t understand the comment about your comment when this sort of thing; https://joannenova.com.au/2022/05/2000-mules-the-election-was-organized-crime/#comment-2544418

sits unacknowledged. Fair enough, the author has made it sound almost real but the commenters next comment below could be described as “infill” which clogs the blog.

The fact that these comments received over 140 little red thumbs shows the general feeling of the blog contributors.

The world is a puzzling place and, like you, I would like to see a way out of this crisis but all that shows, at the moment, is further descent into hell.

        Wish us luck.

Keith, Peter has posted more than 14,000 comments here. Those who post 10-15% of a thread may control the conversation. I’ve been asking him simply to try to be constructive rather than passively and repetitively predicting defeat. My remark is part of a long conversation with Peter, mostly behind the scenes.

Musk Blasts Soros ‘Dark Money Groups’ Threatening Twitter Advertisers

Musk’s purchase also prompted a constellation of 26 Soros-linked NGOs to sign a letter expressing concern about the plan – writing that “Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalized.”

The authors that under Musk’s management, “Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached, polluting our information ecosystem in a time where trust in institutions and news media is already at an all-time low,” adding “Your ad dollars can either fund Musk’s vanity project or hold him to account. We call on you to demand Musk uphold these basic standards of community trust and safety, and to pull your advertising spending from Twitter if they are not.”

Those advertising on Twitter would risk their company associating “with a platform amplifying hate, extremism, health misinformation, and conspiracy theorists,” according to the letter.

A quick look at the signatories:

Musk responded to the campaign against him by asking “Who funds these organizations that want to control your access to information? Let’s investigate …” adding “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

Supreme Court Abortion Leak is the Job for Biden’s Ministry of Truth

    By John Kass

With the November elections fast approaching, the Democratic Party was in hysterics, panicking over they feared would be wave election, a massive mid-term butt kicking in payment for inflation, crime, the open border and everything else they’ve done to the American people.

They screamed about insurrections wherever they could imagine them, under your neighbors’ bed, among parents who don’t want their kindergarteners indoctrinated on gender identification, among those smeared as domestic terrorists for daring to oppose racist Critical Race Theories in government schools. They piled dry wood around the stakes, like witch burners of the Middle Ages, and their media allies drowned out the heretics.

But that wasn’t helping all that much. The American public wasn’t all that interested in burning millions at the stake for the alleged “insurrection” on Jan. 6, especially when Democrats were so forgiving about the Black Lives Matter riots when the cities burned, and downtowns ruined and businesses were destroyed.

Something else was required. The leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion ending Roe v Wade was that shiny weapon they wanted. If enacted, the leaked draft would not end abortion in all 50 states. All it would do is return the choice to the people. But the Democrats reached for the Supreme Court leak as their weapon. They screamed and held the club in both hands.

A real insurrection has plopped into their laps. Not an imagined one. A real one involving real force and the mob hoping to intimidate the Supreme Court.

The Democrats say they’re angry, at least publicly so, between fundraising calls and getting themselves on TV to say democracy is over. But do the Democrats really want to get to the bottom of this leak thing? I don’t think so. None of them are condemning the leaker.

So I’m wondering: Isn’t this really a job for Nina Jankowicz, the ridiculous party hack and self-described “Mary Poppins of Disinformation” who runs President Biden’s Ministry of Truth?

Who else could do the job? No one else, but Nina. C’mon Joe. Give Nina a chance.

Doocy Nails WH Over SCOTUS Leak, While Bret Baier Sources Raise Alarm on Timing

Then Fox’s Peter Doocy asked if Joe Biden thought that the leaker should be punished. Again, Psaki put off the question, declaring that Biden’s “focus was on not getting distracted” from what they claimed was most important — a non-decision by the Supreme Court that they want to use to jack up the anger on the left to help their chances in the midterms. There is no decision to be focused on, but there is an unprecedented attack on the Court, trying to undermine and intimidate. But then, Joe Biden couldn’t give a darn. More than that, he and the Democrats are using it to attack the Court even more.

Doocy also pointed out how this reaction from the White House differed from their prior position — saying they wouldn’t comment on “leaked” material. Yet, here they were commenting on this leaked material because they thought it served their political purpose.

That was a question Psaki didn’t anticipate, and she had no real response except to say that they said it was a real draft. But it’s still a leak and not a final decision. So the answer is, once again, that they are hypocrites.

Fox’s Bret Baier mentioned on air a report that the White House knew about the leak/opinion beforehand. I’ve been trying to track down more on that report. Now, if that’s true, it might explain why the White House wouldn’t condemn it and invites a lot of questions along the lines that Sen. Josh Hawley was asking the other day: What did they know and when did they know it?

UPDATE: Here’s video (30 Sec)of Bret Baier talking about the report (with thanks to Right Glock Mom)!

Biden Says Kids Belong to Their Teachers

Schools are becoming indoctrination factories, trying to turn children against their country and their own parents’ values. It’s what the teachers unions intend.

Amazingly, that’s just fine with President Joe Biden, who told a gathering of teachers and union bigwigs on April 27 that the kids are “yours when they’re in the classroom.” That wasn’t just a Biden stumble. He repeated it for emphasis: “They are all our children … They are not somebody else’s children.”

Sorry, Joe. But parents have a right to know what their children are being taught, and to set limits. State legislators in at least 12 states have introduced bills requiring teachers to post teaching materials, including books and videos, on a website for parents to inspect before their kids see them.

Good teachers will have no problem with that. But ideologically driven teachers, as well as the unions, are fighting back. That includes Randi Weingarten, head of the American Federation of Teachers. As she launched Teacher Appreciation Week — and most teachers do deserve our appreciation — Weingarten smeared classroom transparency requests as the work of political “extremists.”

Concerned parents are not political extremists, but Biden is joining the attack against transparency, parroting the unions. He and most Democrats in Congress are teachers union flunkies.

5 Ways Democrat Policies Work To Destroy Children’s Lives

Once again, children have become objects unworthy of life, protection, or tutelage. What kind of society does this to children?

Americans who would sacrifice anything to protect their children may be surprised to learn that their inclination is a rather modern phenomenon. For most of human history, the most dangerous period of any person’s life was childhood. Only if a newborn survived the first decade of disease, warfare, hunger, and all the other mundane threats to ordinary human existence would the survivor gain any type of social recognition.

Today, we sadly are witnessing the reverse of this civilizational achievement. Once again, children have become objects unworthy of life, protection, or tutelage.

Their mere right to exist is balanced against a mother’s right to convenience. Their childhoods have become sexualized. Their education has been abandoned and replaced with regimens of indoctrination that make them easy targets for governments, corporations, and predators to exploit.

Right before our eyes, those with power are stripping American children of their personhood.

Here are five ways I see this clearly happening in our society right now.

Satellites have detected land surface temperatures in some parts of India at 149 F. (65C)

Owing to the absence of cloud cover on April 29 (10:30 local time), the Sentinel-3 spacecraft was able to obtain an accurate measurement of the land surface temperature of the ground, which exceeded 60°C (140°F) in several areas. The data shows that surface temperature in Jaipur and Ahmedabad reached 47°C (117°F), while the hottest temperatures recorded are southeast and southwest of Ahmedabad (visible in deep red) with maximum land surface temperatures of around 65°C (149°F).

And already there are several Indigenous Australian MPs in Federal Parliament with Jacinta Price now a Senate candidate and likely to win the Senate seat.

However, where does the quota system go next, multi-cultural Australia has many ethnic groups, should each of them have a quota representation as well?

Who knew? Are there any others?

    Eromanga Refinery

We have been proudly operating the Eromanga Oil Refinery since 1986.

We have been proudly operating the Eromanga Oil Refinery, located in the small town of Eromanga approximately 1000 km west of Brisbane Australia since 1986. The refinery produces high quality diesel fuels, heating oils and kerosene, as well as variety of speciality petroleum products for industrial uses.

Eromanga UMF, the main product of our refinery, is a highly specialised diesel mining fuel with the lowest exhaust gas particulates of any fuel currently available on the market.

The refinery has been continuously processing up to 1,250 barrels per day of locally produced crude oil since it was commissioned in 1986.

Located in one of the remotest regions of Australia, the Eromanga Refinery remains a significant contributor to the local community through the training, employment and business opportunities it provides.

Have questions about our Eromanga refinery, its products or its role in the local community? Let’s chat!

The refinery is about 100k from Haddon corner and sits smack bang in the middle of the Cooper-Eromanga basin from which the crude is sourced.

Less than one month after provision was made in the 2020–21 Budget for the design and implementation of a market mechanism to support domestic refineries, BP Australia announced it would cease fuel production at its Kwinana Refinery. Once this refinery is wound down over the next six months, Australia will have three remaining fuel refineries. The continued reduction in refinery numbers has implications for Australia’s liquid fuel security.

        Cooper/Eromanga oil is low sulphur.
I’ve had the pleasure of working in this area for a few years, visiting Eromanga at least once, plus a few other satellite stations, balera, Jackson, Dullangari, etc, and Moomba, of course. I still have a drawer full of oil samples from “drill stem tests” – where, after drilling a well, a specific interval is isolated via inflatable packers, then exposed to atmospheric pressure to see what flows out of the formation – gas, oil, or water, or sometimes, all 3, sometimes, nothing much at all!

people forget that the Cooper/Eromanga basins have been continuously producing oil and gas for decades. it’s not enough to meet local demand, but every bit helps. it also employs a lot of people. Santos has 4 drilling rigs, very soon to be 5, continuously drilling for decades, plus some work-over rigs, and Beach Energy has another handful.

Extremely low, according to my sources.

Australian crude, in general, has extremely low sulphur content.

Interestingly enough, this also applies to teh high-grade anthracite coal from the Bowen basin.

    Looming fuel and food crisis

    Via Martin A.

The Biden Administration is directing oil companies to reduce diesel fuel production. One here in Florida just closed. They are deliberately pushing diesel fuel costs higher to force their GREEN objectives. This is all part of the plan to end fossil fuels making the cost so high that it reduces their use. In the process, they are accelerating the inflation rate and the food crisis which will become more dramatic next year.

Reliable sources behind the Silk Curtain confirm that Chinese regulators called an emergency meeting with all large domestic and foreign banks operating in China concerning how they could protect the country’s overseas assets from the United States which appears determined to destroy the world economy. China has $3.2tn in foreign reserves but unlike Russia, the Chinese economy is interlinked with virtually every other economy in the world. Sanctions against China will be far more devastating to the entire world economy than what Biden has inflicted on Russia.

RELIABLE SOURCES confirm that the food shortage is also being created DELIBERATELY and they are well aware that without fertilizer from Russia, farmers will suffer crop failures. They are now trying to force farmers to turn GREEN and grow food that complies with the Great Reset. Then concerning fossil fuels, world crude oil production has been declining since 2019. They are also fully aware of this problem and once again it is DELIBERATE. This will also result in the contraction of the world economy.

Please stock up on food that will last a few years. It is not good news that Putin is undergoing cancer surgery. I have stated many times, that the propaganda against him is not warranted. Those behind him are far more aggressive and again RELIABLE SOURCES confirm that without Putin, they may just nuke Kyiv to scare the hell out of NATO.

I agree 100%. Other trusted sources are confirming this.
Like I’ve said, stock up as much as you can afford and don’t waste your money on non-essential things like holidays and new cars and especially avoid a mortgage…
We need to see through the distractions like elections and fake climate change and focus on what’s really important like self preservation.
Major food runs are coming very soon so don’t say you weren’t warned 😉

    2GB this morning.
Ray was talking about how his blood pressure monitor did not disturb his sleep.
Last week I thought he interviewed one of the Bureaucrats in charge of jabbing. From my recollection he had met her at the regional ‘Clot-o-seum’ when he was having another ‘Jab’.

This morning he was putting the boot into his once upon a time ‘bestie’, Craig Kelly and the news followed with a boot into his other once upon a time ‘bestie’ George Christensen, with a serve at Palmer for good measure.
What was the source of his glee? The Brazilian study on Invermectin’s effect on the Covid 19 disease has been published. Maybe he would like to know how the various groups were chosen.

I avoid getting too excited if I was Ray, there appears to be a lot of weakness in the arteries and walls around your heart from what we are seeing and I would certainly not be risking pissing myself laughing with what has been going on with the prostate gland.

Dems Make Stunning Admission About Who Can Actually Get An Abortion

Democrats made an admission about what type of people can actually get abortions in the wake of a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion showing justices could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade.

After many liberals pushed for gender-neutral terms surrounding pregnancy and abortion such as “birthing people” instead of “woman,” prominent Democrats made statements appearing to suggest only women can get pregnant and have abortions.

President Joe Biden characterized abortion as a women’s rights issue in a Tuesday statement which emphasized women’s reproductive freedom.

“I believe that a woman’s right to choose is fundamental,” he said. “[I]f the Court does overturn Roe, it will fall on our nation’s elected officials at all levels of government to protect a woman’s right to choose.”

Hillary Clinton also painted abortion as a women’s issue.

But neither Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton are Biologists – How can they say who a Women is?

Coronavirus Particles Likely Travel Farther Than Thought – Infectious Up to 200 Feet

A recent study by scientists at the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory offers a third possibility: microscopic respiratory particles may stay wet and airborne for longer periods of time and travel further than previously thought.

“There are reports of people becoming infected with a coronavirus downwind of an infected person or in a room several minutes after an infected person has exited that room,” said Leonard Pease, the corresponding author of the study. The findings were published in the February issue of the journal International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer.

Nobody kicks a cow in the head. All that will get you is a broken foot, and that without causing the cow any great discomfort. Cows’ heads are hard and heavy, and accustomed to bashing each other.

But the Gillard/Brown government banned live cattle exports to Indonesia on the basis of a video which showed a man kicking at a cow’s head.

That video was contrived! As was the whole 4 Corners program.

The characteristic which the “animal lovers” and “tree huggers” display in common is that they hate people. And not just any people. Most people.

Australia has already paid a substantial diplomatic cost over that uncivilised ban, and will pay again as we are forced to work with Indonesia to sort out the China problem.

One of my brothers was born while Dad was working on Palm Is., another while at Cherbourg. He had a few photos like yours [it was 80+ yrs ago] but while there was clearly a patronising attitude and with a pay gap, things were orderly.

Even in my youth, in a town with a high number of this group [careful wording] they were generally hard working, honest people and by then equal pay. As a teenager I spent some months manually calculating pays for railway’s line gangs [no calculators then, I must have done well enough] all races were paid the same.

Where did things go wrong? May I suggest sit down money.

The grand kids of respectable families I knew became notorious petty criminals and car thieves. Elders are no longer respected, and the respectable elders have passed anyway. The elders now participate in gross crimes in the settlements. Time to say “Live traditionally by all means, but not on white man’s $”.

Despite SCOTUS Roe Leak, Republicans Double Democrat Turnout in Ohio Primaries

The Supreme Court’s potential decision to overrule Roe v. Wade certainly did not prompt Democrat voters to turn up at Ohio’s midterm primaries on Tuesday.

The House Democrat’s campaign chief Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) announced after Politico’s bombshell report on Monday night that abortion will “now” become the “central choice” in the November midterms and claimed that “only Democrats will protect our freedoms.”

But despite the Democrat Party’s attempt to rile their base over the supposed “right” to end the lives of unborn children, Republican voters doubled Democrat voters in the Ohio gubernatorial primary just a day after the Supreme Court’s potential ruling was leaked.

Data from the New York Times shows Republicans cast 1,068,817 ballots in the GOP primary for governor, the highest number of ballots cast in a midterm primary in two decades, according to the Republican National Committee (RNC). GOP voters outdid themselves by roughly 200,000 votes compared to 2018 gubernatorial primary numbers and increased their turnout by 29 percent. In stark contrast, only 502,100 Democrats cast their ballots, a 26 percent decrease from 679,738 ballots cast in 2018.

Hillary Clinton’s blood-red Met Gala dress turns heads

Based on the color of her dress, her outfit would have been appropriate for paying homage to either abortion or Benghazi.

Hillary said the dress embellishment “also reflected Joseph’s interest in what were called ‘friendship quilts’ that women used to embroider sayings or phrases or the names of family or friends.” A nice touch could have been to embroider the names of Hillary’s dead friends as a reminder of the morgue quilts that cover the c@rpses of all the “suicide” and Benghazi victims Hillary and Bill would rather forget.

    Meanwhile

(Australia) I notice a lot of movement away from NBN Co broadband (wired connection) to 5G wireless connection for home broadband services.

Presumably this is to escape the monopoly of NBN Co, a network conceived by stupid politicians, not engineers, and it shows.

NBN Co is pushing for a 5G tax so they can keep their monopoly.

Presumably this is to escape the monopoly of NBN Co, a network conceived by stupid politicians, not engineers, and it shows.

The NBN we got is not the NBN we were promised.

There’s a myriad of reasons why this occurred, including the “communications minister” and later short term PM who should not have been in the LNP, Turdball.

Before I make any comments below, I’ll make this statement: Regardless of what people say – along with premium routing equipment, optic fibre to the premises (FTTP) will absolutely sh*t all over any current wireless technology and that will remain the case for many years to come.

      Massive mistakes:-
      – Telstra. If the company wasn’t viable, it should have been leased (not sold), along with all exchange buildings, towers, pits & pipes, etc. Australian taxpayers had a stake in PMG/Telecom/Telstra and the real estate alone was massively undervalued in the sale. NBN began rolling out (optic fibre from power poles) before a deal was done with Telstra for the use of their (previously taxpayer owned) pits & pipes. This fact alone made the NBN costs skyrocket.
      – Telstra had too much involvement in (political) decision making. The NBN network started with 121 points of interconnection (POI’s). This was decided solely because Telstra already had equipment at all of those locations which almost made them invincible. For other companies to compete, they would need to make significant investments. Impartial intelligent engineers suggested at least one POI in each capital city with possibly a few extras in large regional cities. i.e. Maximum 10 – 20 POI’s.
      – Running NBN like a private business when it wasn’t. Our money, huge wages, no results, say no more.
      – By not doing what was initially promised (FTTP), the NBN barstardised the whole industry. eg. Now we have fixed wireless NBN which in some cases performs worse than outdated ADSL technology. People are now confirming what NBN technology exists at a given premises before considering occupying that premises.

Much more could be said, but my general message is that the Australian NBN should have been world class, but as usual, bureaucracy got in the way.

        Agreed.
But, what we were promissed was never going to be possible, either practically or financially.
It was a typical political prommiss based on a distorted technical brief.
FTTP.. was never going to be possible beyond urban areas, and even in those areas, any experienced civil/ systems engineer could see the complications and costs were way underestimated. Some form of wireless network was always going to be necessary for regional areas.
My experience with NBN ..( FTTN Hybrid) in Sydney was painful, to say the least. Frequent dropouts and complete failures compounded by a nightmare customer service support.
The fundamental problem with the whole system is that it is a BUSINESS which prioritises profits over Service . Considering that public money was used to build the system, the service charges are extortionate, with unsurprisingly , little variation across all providers.
        A typical public corporation disaster

I have better things to spend a grand on than a “smart” phone so still use the landline.

Do I still need NBN for my wired phone should I go 5G?

Wired phones / landlines are now being delivered via NBN. My mother in law has fibre to her home, a router and a phone plugged into it. She has no internet service.

If you live regionally it makes no sense to buy a 5G phone as it will spend most of its time on 4G anyway. The 4G phone I am using now costs $120. If i do a speedtest on it , it is slightly faster than the NBN fixed wirless to our house.

Our daughter up in Wangaratta uses a 4G plan for her Internet and is quite happy with that. I can see why 5G would be a great option for city people and why NBN wants to crush it.

By video link during January 2022 Prime Minister Morrison told delegates at the WEF Conference in Davos, Switzerland, that Australia will not adopt the WEF economic model, the PM referred to the WEF model in a sarcastic way, and said that Australia will continue to support the free enterprise, free market system and seek to continue to improve national economic prosperity.

As various websites have reported, WUWT for example, the UN is not happy with the present Coalition Government in Australia following COP26 and refusal to ban coal mining, refusing to increase Paris emissions target and change the target date from 2030 to 2025.

Worse, Australia refused to sign an agreement to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 as demanded by the UN and recommended by our major allies US and UK.

For Australia net zero emissions is “an aspirational goal” SUBJECT to development of new technology and without damaging the economy.

To understand better knowledge of global politics, UN politics, IPCC politics and diplomatic affairs (foreign affairs & trade) and the rest of the minefield is essential.

Christopher Monckton explained it quite well in or around 2014 when he warned Australians (and in other videos Canadians and New Zealanders) to watch the back of Prime Minister Abbott (and the other PMs) because they were under attack from the above foreign forces and their local representatives. And as we now know in 2015 PM Abbott was replaced by a LINO left PM and similar took place in the other nations where the leaders were not UN and IPCC puppets.

NBN Co, a Federal Government owned private company that does not publish public accounting, established by Labor to build and manage the $4 billion, then $40 billion NBN network (figures rounded off).

The network that auditing commissioned by the Minister for Communications in the Abbott Coalition Government discovered was over $50 billion in cost and estimated to be heading towards or close to $100 billion resulting in a Cabinet decision based on advice to change the NBN connections and related costs.

A history of Labor Federal governments: free university courses later changed because of mounting costs to include Higher Education Contribution Scheme, Medibank another great idea that mounting costs caused to be changed and Medicare resulted, Gonski education grants to State Schools for no gain in education standards, in fact falling standards continuing and National Disability Insurance Scheme now costing much more than Labor estimated when they announced it.

No need to add which sides ends up having to fund these Labor thought bubbles.

‘Serious’ Covid vax side-effects 40 times more likely than reported – researcher

Professor Harald Matthes of Berlin’s Charite University Hospital said on Tuesday that he has recorded 40 times more“serious side effects” from Covid-19 vaccinations than official German sources have. As Matthes called on doctors to speak up for those allegedly injured, US pharma giant Pfizer released a tranche of data apparently showing its jab was far less effective than claimed.

Banks relaxed on property prices but watch NZ

The high level of home loan debt means interest rate rises may have a larger effect and be felt more quickly than in the past, particularly if confidence and house prices take a hit.

National Australia Bank chief executive Ross McEwan is a firm believer in the Darryl Kerrigan Rule.

McEwan, who delivered a stellar result for the six month to March on Thursday, remains relatively sanguine about the outlook for property prices as interest rates rise.

Not only has NAB stress tested mortgage borrowers at interest rates at or around 5 per cent for some time, but his customers on average are four years ahead on their loans (including mortgage offsets) and mainly have secure jobs, given the historically low unemployment rate.

More than that though, history says borrowers will find a way to meet their mortgage repayments.

“People are starting to have to juggle around where they spend their money,” McEwan says. “And the first thing they want to look after is to hold on to the home.“

The belief in the Darryl Kerrigan Rule is justifiably strong across the banking sector.

Australian banks have proven very good risk managers around residential property for a long time and loss rates are well below 1 per cent across the majors.

The majority of mortgage borrowers are ahead on their repayments and the wave of stimulus payments seen in the last few years have boosted savings and reduced onerous forms of debt, such as on credit cards.

The prudential regulator also strengthened lending buffers last year in anticipation of the interest rate cycle turning and the flurry of rate rises in other jurisdictions should have helped prepare borrowers for what’s to come.

But Australia’s high level of household indebtedness do raise the risk that the impact of rate rises could be larger and felt more quickly than in the past, particularly if confidence and house prices take a hit.

That’s exactly what RBC economist Su-Lin Ong expects. While she expects the peak of the RBA’s cycle of rate rises will be lower than the market at 1.85 per cent, she does expect the bank to get there sooner than she thought before Tuesday’s 25 basis point move.

Kiwi in the property coal mine

If house price pain does ramp up, Australia’s major banks should get a warning from inside their New Zealand operations, where interest rates have leapt from 0.25 per cent in September 2021 to 1.5 per cent in April.

The percentage of new loans going to borrowers with a debt-to-income ratio above six times in 24 per cent in Australia, but it is 39 per cent in New Zealand and a staggering 51 per cent in Auckland, where the property market is particularly hot.

The U.K. has used just 142 million of the stockpile of 650 million vaccine doses it purchased, leaving an estimated £4 billion worth of vaccines unused and, at current levels of take-up, likely going to waste. The vaccines typically have an expiration date of six to 12 months after manufacture

    GREEN Technology:

    – ‘Not So “Green” Technology: The Complicated Legacy of Rare Earth Mining
Production of these new technologies requires companies to dig up what are referred to as rare earth elements (REEs).

REEs describe the 15 lanthanides on the periodic table (La-Lu), plus Scandium (Sc) and Yttrium (Y). Contrary to what the name suggests, REEs are abundant in the earth’s crust. The catch is that they come in low concentrations in minerals, and even when found, they are hard to separate from other elements, which is what makes them “rare.” Perhaps these elements also get their name from being rarely discussed, even though everything from the iPhone to the Tesla electric engine to LED lights use REEs.

Demand for these elements is projected to spike in coming years as governments, organizations, and individuals increasingly invest in clean energy. An electric car requires six times the mineral inputs of a conventional car, and a wind plant requires nine times more minerals than a gas-fired plant.
With current estimates, demand for REEs could increase six-fold by 2040. Lithium and cobalt demand could increase ten to twenty times by 2050 because of electric cars. Demand for dysprosium and neodymium is estimated to increase seven to twenty-six times over the next 25 years as a result of electric vehicles and wind turbines. But REEs also have grim prospects: the way companies extract REEs largely damages communities and contaminates surrounding areas.

There are two primary methods for REE mining, both of which release toxic chemicals into the environment. The first involves removing topsoil and creating a leaching pond where chemicals are added to the extracted earth to separate metals. This form of chemical erosion is common since the chemicals dissolve the rare earth, allowing it to be concentrated and then refined. However, leaching ponds, full of toxic chemicals, may leak into groundwater when not properly secured and can sometimes affect entire waterways.

The second method involves drilling holes into the ground using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes and rubber hoses to pump chemicals into the earth, which also creates a leaching pond with similar problems. Additionally, PVC pipes are sometimes left in areas that are never cleaned up.

Both methods produce mountains of toxic waste, with high risk of environmental and health hazards. For every ton of rare earth produced, the mining process yields 13kg of dust, 9,600-12,000 cubic meters of waste gas, 75 cubic meters of wastewater, and one ton of radioactive residue. This stems from the fact that rare earth element ores have metals that, when mixed with leaching pond chemicals, contaminate air, water, and soil. Most worrying is that rare earth ores are often laced with radioactive thorium and uranium, which result in especially detrimental health effects. Overall, for every ton of rare earth, 2,000 tons of toxic waste are produced.

The most infamous mine in China is Bayan-Obo, the largest REE mine in the world. Even more infamous than the mine itself is the tailing pond it has produced: there are over 70,000 tons of radioactive thorium stored in the area. This has become a larger issue recently because the tailing pond lacks proper lining.

As a result, its contents have been seeping into groundwater and will eventually hit the Yellow River, a key source of drinking water. Currently, the sludge is moving at a pace of 20-30 meters per year, a dangerously rapid rate.’

      ‘Natural Wealth of Ukraine
Ukraine belongs to the leading mineral-raw countries of the world with a wide range of minerals. Ukraine – 0.4% of the Earth’s surface and 0.8% of the world’s population – has about 5% of the world’s mineral resources.

More than 20,000 deposits and manifestations of 200 different minerals have been discovered in Ukraine. Of these, 7,807 deposits of 94 types of minerals are of industrial importance. Ukraine holds one of the leading places in the reserves and extraction of iron, manganese, titanium-zirconium ores, non-metallic raw materials.

Manganese. Ukraine has the largest reserves of manganese ores in Europe and the second largest in the world (after South Africa). The main reserves (about 2.28 billion tons) are concentrated in the south of Ukraine: the Nikopol manganese basin in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions (33% of the explored reserves of the country) and the Veliko-Tokmakskoye field in the Zaporozhye region (67%).

The total copper reserves are about 25 million tons.

Titanium. Ukraine has the largest reserves of titanium in Europe. 15 titanium deposits have been discovered in the country (4 of which are being developed). The deposits are located in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.

Uranium. The total confirmed uranium reserves are also the largest in Europe. The deposits of Russia exceed the Ukrainian ones, but there are not located in the European part of the Eurasian continent. Ukraine has 1.8% of world uranium reserves, 45.6 thousand tons. There are 17 deposits (14 in the Kirovohrad region, 2 in the Nikolaev region, 1 in the Dnipropetrovsk region).

Mercury. The total mercury reserves (1.9% of the world, 29,000 tons), Ukraine ranks 5th (after Spain, Algeria, China, and Kyrgyzstan).

In Ukraine, the total gold reserves are 3,200 tons.

Graphite. Ukraine holds the second place in the world in terms of graphite reserves (about 300 deposits with more than 1 billion tons, 20% of the world reserves, China – 26%).’

      Catherine,
You seem to know little about rare earths and mining.
For example, you mention “there are over 70,000 tons of radioactive thorium stored in the area. This has become a larger issue recently because the tailing pond lacks proper lining.”
People go irrational at the mention of radioactivity. My guess as to what would happen to that tiny amount of thorium, if released into the environment, is practically nothing. You are making mountains out of mole hills. I spent years exploring for uranium and thorium, found lots of both, but at age about 80 I still do not have two heads or seven fingers per hand.
Then you go on about Ukraine “More than 20,000 deposits and manifestations of 200 different minerals have been discovered in Ukraine. Of these, 7,807 deposits of 94 types of minerals are of industrial importance.” Look, Australia would probably have several times that amount of mineral show, but when we talk about it we use carefully chosen words like reserves, resources, proven resources, economically mineable resources etc. It is really not all that hard, if you are experienced, to fins anomalous scatters of mineralisation all over the place. Finding a viable mine is rather hard. Most exploration geoscientists spend their whole career without finding a viable mine. My mob were a bit better, found about a dozen, some world class. Geoff S

Apple Magic Mouse “Low Battery – 2%

Everyone agrees this is Apple’s worst ever design decision

    Not such a Magic Mouse!

If there’s one company known for its design prowess, it’s Apple. From the iPhone to the Apple Watch, everything just works. Well, almost everything. Curpertino’s finest has been known to make the odd design mistake – but none seem to rankle the internet quite as much as the Magic Mouse 2.

It’s a typically sleek-looking Apple peripheral and even made our best mouse for Mac list. But as soon as you need to charge it, the product instantly becomes useless. In possibly Apple’s most mind-boggling design decision ever, it placed the lightning port on the bottom of the mouse, rendering it utterly unusable while being charged. And judging by the endless torrent of tweets about it, this one trips up Apple users every single day.

Top Ten Scientific Flaws In The Big Bang Theory

The first is that there is a good reason it is only called a “theory”. The proponents of this theory would have you believe that it is set in stone and factual; but this is far from the truth. In fact, the Big Bang theory has so many holes that there is not enough evidence to even confidently say that it could even possibly be valid.

Two more Omicron subvariants detected in NSW as 11,000 are infected for second time

NSW has detected another two Omicron subvariants that are driving a spike in infections overseas, as health officials confirm at least 11,000 people across the state have caught the virus more than once.

New variants of Omicron – BA.5 and BA.2.12.1 – have been detected in NSW, in addition to at least six BA.4 infections, which was first identified last week.

Experts are keeping a close eye on the proliferation of subvariants, including BA.4, BA.5 and BA.2.12.1, which have driven sudden infection surges in South Africa and New York. South Africa is facing a potential fifth wave after a sustained uptick in infections, test positivity rates and hospital admissions.

Experts say the arrival of new and highly contagious Omicron subvariants are likely to increase the chance of second or even third infections, with reinfections likely to become more common as immunity wanes after the summer’s massive Omicron surge.

Fecal transplants reverse signs of aging in brain, gut and eyes of mice

The connection between gut bacteria and human health continues to be illuminated in all kinds of ways, and among the more fascinating is the way these microbes might influence different aspects of the aging process. A study has not only highlighted new facets of this relationship, but demonstrated how hallmarks of aging in the brain, gut and eyes might even be reversed through fecal transplants.

Feminists Freak Out After Discovering Men Don’t Want To Date ‘Woke’ Women

It turns out, there is an entire segment of men — even, perhaps, a rather large one — that has sworn off dating “woke women,” and feminists, predictably, are quite angry about it.

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/feminists-freak-out-after-discovering-men-dont-want-to-date-woke-women

An older article but increasingly relevant.
Not just “woke” but of “generous exterior dimensions” too.
Whilst casually surfing recently for…err.. “tractors” (😄😄) I was unexpectedly redirected to a site which contained images of what biologists apparently class as “women” with the accompanying notation of #nogorilla.
Suffice it to say they were indeed streamlined tractors and the hashtag caused some mirth.
Perhaps a return to the good old days of alpha males and real women would solve a few problems?

Another problem Australian coal miners and related businesses are encountering is insurance companies, international or multi-national companies, now refusing to provide insurances to those coal industry based businesses.

It was discussed on Sky News tonight.

Accordingly the coal industry is working to establish an industry specific insurer but need Federal Government support, not funding as such, but to back the venture.

Of course this is another climate hoax situation and woke executive decisions, maybe also shareholders as many would be other companies such as bankers and superannuation schemes, etc.

I wonder if coal fired power stations are on the hit list or next?

11,300 reported to have caught Covid twice. It would be interesting to read how this number was compiled. Many people have of course tested positive for Covid more than once. Over a three week period I tested positive three times. What was the time period between tests for the 11300? It would also be interesting to know their vaccination details, that is, if, when, and how many. Until then, and maybe beyond then, I’ll remain sceptical.

Buffalo Hat-Wearing Elizabeth Warren Leads Insurrection Against Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Eyewitnesses reported Senator Elizabeth Warren donned a buffalo hat and led a group of bloodthirsty insurrectionists up the marble steps of the Supreme Court Building Wednesday morning. According to sources, they are outraged that the murder of babies as a constitutional right is under dispute.

Sen Warren, literally shaking, tumbled up the building steps and wailed righteously at the main door of the marble palace as her minions violently assaulted it with poster board and clothes hangers.

“The court has been compromised!” she yelled. “They are ruling in a way I disagree with!”

“America has fallen! WE DEMAND BLOOD! MORE BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!”

While rallying her supporters, Elizabeth Warren explained that overturning Roe v Wade wasn’t a big deal because Congress had the power to amend the Constitution but that she was still angry anyway because she hadn’t eaten in a while “AND COULD SOMEONE PLEASE GRAB ME A SNICKERS?!”

FOI reveals Pfizer and Medicine Regulators hid the dangers of Covid-19 Vaccination during Pregnancy because Study found it increases risk of Birth Defects & Infertility

A ‘Freedom of Information’ request alongside an in-depth dive into the only pregnancy/fertility study performed on the Pfizer Covid-19 injection has revealed that Medicine Regulators and Pfizer chose to publicly cover-up alarming abnormalities of the developing foetus and falsely downgraded the actual risk of Covid-19 vaccination during pregnancy by suppressing documented findings of the clinical data.

These decisions led to medical professionals, who are far too trusting of Medicine Regulators, to wrongly inform pregnant women that the Covid-19 injections are perfectly safe during pregnancy, leading to many pregnant women feeling pressured to get vaccinated.

This fraud and deception has caused at least 4,113 foetal deaths due to Covid-19 vaccination in the USA alone, and a further study shows Covid-19 vaccination actually increases the risk of suffering a miscarriage by at least 1,517%.

In May of 2020 I pointed out that we already had data on one particular metabolic factor for severe or fatal Covid-19 — Vitamin D levels.

It was a correlation, which does not prove cause, but nearly everyone who wound up in the hospital or dead was deficient or severely-so. There is exactly zero risk in making sure you’re not; that is, using a supplement at a reasonable level that anyone can buy over the counter for literal pennies.

Very high levels of Vitamin D are dangerous, and the damage from them can be irreversible. But we’re not talking about very high levels. We’re talking about normal, healthy levels. Levels everyone should have. Levels that, absent supplementation, are gained exactly one way: Through exposure to the sun on bare, unprotected skin.

In other words exactly what cannot occur if you’re locked inside by government edict.

Well, now its not correlation anymore. Now its a randomized clinical trial, the gold standard of medicine.

Of 321 recruited subjects, 94 VDG and 98 PG completed follow-up. SARS-CoV-2 infection rate was lower in VDG than in PG (6.4 vs. 24.5%, p <0.001). The risk of acquiring SARS-CoV-2 infection was lower in the VDG than in the PG (RR: 0.23; 95% CI: 0.09–0.55) and was associated with an increment in serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (RR: 0.87; 95% CI: 0.82–0.93), independently of VD deficiency. No significant adverse events were identified.

These were all health care workers and thus at extremely high risk for exposure and the study was done before there were vaccines, so jabs could not have possibly changed the outcomes. The cohorts are reasonably-well matched. The relative risk reduction is approximately 75% to get the virus at all, and obviously if you don’t get it you can’t get seriously ill or die.

Biden’s America, Supreme Court Justices Threatened by Democrat Activists, Fences Installed to Prevent Insurrection, White House Silent

This is the state of our union. These are the real Domestic Violent Extremists (DVE’s).

Democrat activists have listed the names and home addresses of conservative Supreme Court justices in an effort to organize violence against the court. A taller perimeter fence was installed around the Supreme Court building last night to stop any violent efforts by democrat activists, and personal security measures have been increased for the justices.

(Daily Mail) – An activist group called ‘Ruth Sent Us’ has published the supposed addresses of Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thmas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Chief Justice John Roberts and are planning a ‘walk-by’ of their homes next Wednesday, May 11.

‘Our 6-3 extremist Supreme Court routinely issues rulings that hurt women, racial minorities, LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights,’ the group’s website reads. ‘We must rise up to force accountability using a diversity of tactics.’ (read more)

Unfortunately, and in keeping with all prior support precedent for Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, Antifa and other violent groups, the installed president and radical administration officials have aligned themselves with the violent confrontation. The White House has refused to speak out against the intimidation effort and/or condemn the violence.

This is the state of our union with Democrats attacking the institutions of government.

Labor Warning, First Quarter Productivity Drops 7.5 Percent, Largest Decrease Since 1947

CTH puts released economic data into ‘what does it mean‘ terms as a conversational priority. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) releases the first quarter productivity and costs report today [BLS Data Here].

Outputs, what was created, dropped 2.4 percent, yet labor hours used to create those outputs increased 5.5 percent. This creates a productivity drop of 7.5% for the overall business. The largest quarterly drop in productivity since 1947.

This is a warning indicator inside the economy to employees of large organizations. CTH has been tracking productivity for quite a while, and the signs have all looked foreboding. {Go Deep} Businesses cannot afford to keep employees on payroll if customer demand drops.

The per unit labor cost to make the products has increased 11.6%. Wages have gone up 3.2% (pay increases) and productivity has dropped 7.5%, combined that creates the 11.6% increase in per unit cost to producers.

Turnbull’s Washington speech in full – urging election of Teal ‘independents’ over Liberals.

In a number of hitherto safe Liberal seats, residents have organised to support small “l” liberal independent candidates who are typically progressive on climate and social issues, but more conservative than Labor on economic issues.

In many respects this may be the most interesting part of the whole election, because if more of these “teal” independents win, it will mean the capture of the Liberal Party will be thwarted by direct, democratic action from voters. People power, you might say.

…if the members of a political party cannot escape from the thrall of the dominant faction, their traditional supporters in the electorate can do so by voting for an independent who has a real chance of success.

Did Supreme Court Nominees Lie to Congress?

The Justices did not promise to uphold abortion precedents.

    By The WSJ Editorial Board

One media narrative congealing after this week’s Supreme Court leak is that President Trump’s nominees lied to Congress by claiming they wouldn’t overturn the abortion precedent of Roe v. Wade. So allow us to check the tape—and explain why respecting past decisions doesn’t bind the Court to stand by serious constitutional errors.

Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer accused “several” of the “conservative Justices” of having “lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation,” among other modest claims in a statement after Politicopublished a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito. The insinuation is that Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett promised Congress they wouldn’t touch Roe.

The truth is available to anyone willing to call up the C-Span archives. Justice Gorsuch said in his 2017 confirmation hearings that Roe “is a precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court. It was reaffirmed in Casey in 1992 and in several other cases. So a good judge will consider it as precedent of the U.S. Supreme Court worthy as treatment of precedent like any other.” In another exchange, Justice Gorsuch said he would have “walked out the door” if President Trump had asked him to commit to overturning Roe. That’s “not what judges do.”

Justice Kavanaugh during the 2018 spectacle that passed as his confirmation hearings noted that Roe had been “reaffirmed many times.” He also declined to prejudge cases. “You have an open mind. You get the briefs and arguments. And some arguments are better than others. Precedent is critically important. It is the foundation of our system. But you listen to all arguments.”

As it happens, this is what Justice Alito’s draft opinion does. He explains at length why stare decisis is essential, for instance, in restraining judicial hubris. But the Court has long recognized in other cases it is “not an inexorable command” and is “at its weakest when we interpret the Constitution.”

In other words, some mistakes are so egregious they require correction.

Overruling precedent, Justice Alito writes, is “a serious matter.” But “Roe was on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it was decided, and Casey perpetuated its errors, and the errors do not concern some arcane corner of the law of little importance to the American people.”

Americans may disagree with this analysis, and many understandably dread the political brawl over abortion that would follow. But if some version of Justice Alito’s opinion is adopted, the Justices who sign onto it will have done what they promised Congress: Decide cases on the legal and constitutional merits.

Nothing but Abortion to Run On

Democrats blame their unpopularity on everything but their own failures.

      By Kimberley A. Strassel

Democrats this week seized on the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion on abortion as a new political lifeline for the midterm elections, looking to channel outrage into electoral success. Put another way, they are going down the same road that landed them here in the first place.

The liberal response to Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade was as predictable as it was substance-free. Forget any discussion about the legal reasoning in the case. Or any soul-searching as to how Democrats came to face a 6-3 conservative high-court majority. Or any internal debate about how the party might craft an agenda that resonates with the public, so that it can maintain its hold on power and begin the process of reshaping the court.

Instead, Democrats proposed to burn every Washington institution down. Party leaders and activists openly attempted to intimidate the justices, hoping to change the outcome. Democrats renewed calls to kill the filibuster, so that they can impose with 51 votes a new abortion law and to expand the court’s size and pack it with liberal jurists. Progressives are even campaigning to impeach sitting justices on the ground that they “lied” to the Senate in confirmation hearings.

Will it work? No question that abortion will now take a premier spot in races for the governorships and legislatures that could soon be recrafting state abortion laws. But it’s a much bigger question whether Democrats can move voters to place abortion at the top of their federal priority list, much less sustain outrage over the topic for another six months.

The bigger risk for the party is that a scorched-earth abortion campaign simply allows it to continue to ignore the real reason for its dismal polls (which also happens to be the reason it is now losing court cases): a failed progressive agenda.

Dow Declines 1,063 Points in Worst Day Since 2020

The stock market took its biggest U-turn since the early days of the pandemic Thursday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average posting its largest decline this year just 24 hours after its largest gain since 2020.

The reversal wiped out the euphoria that reigned on Wall Street Wednesday in the wake of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s comment that the Fed wasn’t “actively considering” raising interest rates by 0.75 percentage point at a future meeting. With inflation at its highest level since the early 1980s, markets had been anticipating such an increase and the prospect of a slower rise in rates set off a furious buying spree in the late afternoon.

The optimism behind that rally was long gone Thursday, when selling was widespread, though most intense for technology shares, which have fallen on hard times in 2022 after years of leading the market advance.

The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 647.16 points, or 5%, to 12317.69, the largest one-day percentage decline since June 2020. The S&P dropped 153.30 points, or 3.6%, to 4146.87, and the Dow slid 1063.09 points, or 3.1%, to 32997.97, erasing Wednesday’s gains. The major indexes declined between 7.02 and 9.38 percentage points from Wednesday’s highs to Thursday’s lows, according to Dow Jones Market Data, their largest swings since the first half of 2020.

In the bond market, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 3.066%, the highest level since November 2018. Bond prices fall when yields rise.

Bucking the trend, shares of Twitter jumped 2.7% after Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said he has received letters from investors committing more than $7 billion in fresh financing to boost the equity part of his offer to buy the social-media company. Last month, Twitter agreed to a deal with Mr. Musk to take the company private for $54.20 a share.

Poop-Boom: Manure Supplies Tighten As Fertilizer Prices Soar

Manure has become a hot commodity. U.S. farmers hunting for organic fertilizer come as chemical fertilizers are in short supply or at sky-high prices. According to Reuters, soaring demand for manure has unleashed a poop shortage.

“Manure is absolutely a hot commodity,” said industry consultant Allen Kampschnieder, who works for Nebraska-based Nutrient Advisors.

Kampschnieder said cattle feeders selling waste are sold out for 2022. “We’ve got waiting lists,” he said.

Farmers quickly switched to animal manure, a mixture of animal feces and straw, because the prices for industrial fertilizer jumped since the European natural gas crisis in the winter of 2021 and Western sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine in March.

. The law of New York and many other jurisdictions prohibits employment discrimination based on national origin. Anna Netrebko’s firing would seem on its face illegal. Had she been born in the Donbas region of Ukraine instead of across the border in Russia, she would not have been fired even if she had refused to condemn the war or Putin.

. She did condemn the war but refused to condemn Putin personally. If she had, she would be endangering her family, friends and her own ability to ever return safely to her homeland.

. Netrebko is an Austrian citizen, but her country of origin is Russia.

. “Forcing artists, or any public figure, to voice their political opinions in public and to denounce their homeland is not right…. I am not a political person…. I am an artist and my purpose is to unite people across political divides.” — Anna Netrebko, quoted in The New York Times, March 2, 2022.

. “She’s damned if she does, and damned if she doesn’t.” — Simon Morrison, Princeton Professor of Music, The New York Times, April 1, 2022.

‘That Doesn’t Feel Like $150 Worth of Groceries’

Why inflation is worse than you think.

In 2011, the last time inflation was on the rise, the then-president of the New York Federal Reserve, William Dudley, ventured into a working-class neighborhood in Queens, New York, to give a speech explaining why inflation wasn’t a big deal. Finding that he wasn’t making an impact, Dudley famously picked up an iPad 2 and told his audience, “Today you can buy an iPad 2 that costs the same as an iPad 1 that is twice as powerful.”

“I can’t eat an iPad!” someone in the audience shouted back.

I was reminded of this story recently while standing in the checkout line of my local grocery store. An elderly neighbor standing in front of me saw the total price of her purchases flash up on the screen. For a moment, her eyes registered shock. Then I heard her mutter, “That sure doesn’t feel like $150 worth of groceries.”

What my neighbor was sensing was the general increase in the price of goods and services and an associated decline in her money’s purchasing power. That’s the essence of inflation.

I didn’t have the heart to tell her that a bag of groceries isn’t included in what’s called the “core inflation” measurement. That’s because energy and food prices are subject to sudden variations caused by events like crop failures or war. Fluctuations in the price of a carton of milk are not thought to tell us much about long-term inflationary trends.

The problem is people still have to spend their hard-earned dollars on food and gas—and there’s no reason to assume that spiking inflation doesn’t affect that.

Making matters worse is the fact that the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Federal Reserve, which measure inflation, have long relied on measurements that make it appear as if inflation is not as bad as it really is.

Ukraine Is a Russian Vital Interest, and Moscow Will Behave Accordingly

Advocates of helping Ukraine achieve “victory” and thereby humiliate Russia are flirting with Armageddon.

Analysts and pundits in the United States and Europe are increasingly optimistic that Ukraine can win its war against Russia. They also are prodding the Biden administration to increase the flow of military hardware to Kyiv to maximize Ukraine’s chances of victory. A new missive along those lines comes from Council on Foreign Relations Senior Fellow Max Boot in a May 2 Washington Post column. Boot contends that the United States should provide Ukraine “with every weapon it needs to win.” Nor, according to Boot, should the administration let Vladimir Putin’s threats of escalation deter Washington from that course of action.

More worrisome than recklessly hawkish sentiments from smug pundits is that U.S. and European officials also speak openly of helping Ukraine win its war and inflict a humiliating defeat on Russia. The U.S. delegation headed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that visited Kyiv at the beginning of May repeatedly emphasized that theme, along with a pledge of Washington’s continuing military assistance until victory is achieved.

What such individuals do not seem to comprehend is that Ukraine is a vital Russian security interest, and the Kremlin likely will do whatever is necessary—probably even the use of tactical nuclear weapons—to prevent a defeat. The failure to understand just how important Ukraine is to Russia caused Western leaders to disregard Moscow’s warnings over more than a decade against making Kyiv a NATO member or an informal military ally. For the same reason, they seem to be making an even more dangerous blunder by ignoring the Kremlin’s latest warnings about dire consequences if NATO uses Ukraine as a pawn in a proxy war against Russia.

Just got my renewal notification for Australian Institute of Company Directors. The AICD is now officially a lost, woke cause. I won’t be renewing after nearly 40 years of membership.

Latest BS from them with none other than David Karoly attending.

Alas, sixty wasted Professional Development units redeemable only at AICD; nevertheless, you’d do well to abandon the group to judge by the quality of mountebank which will be uncaged at the function advertised in the flyer.
