NEWS: PROTEST IN CANBERRA Mon 4th (see below)

It’s Day 43 without food, and Peter Spencer grows weaker. For those who don’t know, Peter Spencer’s farm has been stolen from him by our government through Native Vegetation Legislation — which locked up 80 – 90%  of his entire farm but paid him no compensation. The regrowth on his farm holds “carbon credits” of supposed value to the Commonwealth, yet Peter has been obliged by law to pay the rates on that land-that-holds-these-carbon-credits, and the mortgage for the right to do nothing with this land that really belongs to the Commonwealth. Is this not an extortionate tax?

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has declined all requests to meet Peter.

In a grand failure of journalism, our largest dailies apparently think angry tweeting travelers is more important than that a $10 billion dollars crime, and a life in the balance.

Peter Spencer tried ingenious means to work within the rules. But he has been driven into bankruptcy. The 200 days he spent in court, with all costs associated with just trying to have his case heard, added to the burden. (200 days!) After there was no other route left open to him he started a hunger strike on the wind-monitoring pole atop his property.

“A spokesperson for Mr Rudd yesterday said the Government had “urged” Mr Spencer to stop the protest. … the Government believes this matter should be settled through the legal system…” [Source Daily Telegraph]

This poignant interview should leave any citizen chilled to the bone. We think we are free, we think our elected representatives are there to serve us. Yet if we are unlucky, we too could be crushed by government ruling, financial ruined, and effectively pecked to death by legislative vultures.

What Peter has been through is appalling. Government ineptitude or corruption has effectively forced him to be a slave of the Commonwealth with no just rewards for his work. Peter is now destitute, and his wife is Danish, so she has moved to Denmark so she could work as a pharmacist. He has hardly seen her in the last three years. His wife and children have made an emotional return to be with him in this desperate hour.

It is dire. The Sheriff has warned that they will repossess Peter Spencer’s farm within the next eight days, evict his supporters from his house, auction off his property and belongings, and sell his family heirlooms. Thirty years of toil and struggle destroyed. Peter has said they will have to drag him away.

Here is a top farmer, producing the finest merino wool or high grade trout, and even prepared to set up a wind farm, but has been cut to pieces bit by bit as each legislative change robbed him and his ingenuity of every possible productive use of his property.

Peter tried to set up a wind-farm. The Howard government changes the rules, making it unworkable (though Peter has fruitlessly invested some money prior to the changes). The Rudd government bought the renewable energy rules back, but too late for Peter. The multi-million dollar wind farm development story he speaks of in the interview was described by the ABC. If the developers buy his property (as they want to) they will save millions in royalties that Peter could have earned part of.

How many good farmers have already been pushed over the limit to the point where they used a gun, and were safely bewailed as a so-called victim of “drought” (and “climate change”)?

If there are farmers out there facing ruin and at the end of your tether, please, curry the strength to tell us your story, don’t let the fascists win. I don’t believe for a moment that the good people of Australia would let this grievously unfair fascist state grow stronger if they knew how bad it was. There are only a few times in our lives when we need to sit up and pay attention, but this is one of them. If we let them get away with stealing, with corruption, and with negligence the real fight in 5 or 10 years time will be that much harder and bloodier.

Plenty of little things make a big difference. Join the AgMates supporters of Peter Spencer’s, or write to your elected representative, and send messages to your friends. Warn them that the media is not giving them the real news. Write letters to your newspapers. Shame them for their failure. Why isn’t Kevin Rudd being embarrassed over his failure to even meet with Peter Spencer? There ought be nothing less than an immediate Royal Commission.

The only Australian newspaper which is treating this seriously is The Daily Telegraph, which also did a story a few days ago. The Advertiser may have run a reprint? The Australian only covered it accidentally as a chance to ping Barnaby Joyce. Readers of  The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The West Australian, The Mercury and The Courier Mail, wouldn’t have any idea that this travesty and dire situation is unfolding. Their readers ought to be angry. Let’s shame them into doing their jobs.

Could this be real? An unnamed officer from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said that five inspectors were dispatched to the North and the West of the state to target buses headed for Canberra for this protest. At least two bus drivers have confirmed that their buses were booked to go, but have been cancelled due to the RTA harassment. Buses can be held for up to six hours in the road side inspection places whilst being assessed for mechanical defects and and driving breaches. It’s all “technically” legal and profoundly disturbing.

    What a travesty! I am an American so I do not understand Australian Laws or the country’s legal system but it appears they are suspiciously similar to what we have in the U.S. In my country we were raised to believe that a mans home was his castle. The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the states eminent domain rights trump the rights of private property owners. In essence, if the government feels it needs your property they can take it but they do have to pay for it, usually below fair market value. After the Supreme Court’s ruling, several states enacted laws to protect the property rights of individuals and to limit the government’s eminent domain powers. Unfortunately, not all states have enacted changes to blunt the Supreme Courts ruling. If the U.S. EPA can regulate CO2 which is what we exhale I believe we will see something similar to what is happening in Australia here in the states but on a much grander scale. The global warming scam is a trojan horse the left is using to control everyone on the planet. It is beyond Orwellian.

    Mr. Spencer is a brave man and I hope his countrymen rally to his cause. If that is going to happen it will be up to sites such as yours, Jo, to get the ball rolling. The MSM cannot control the internet, at least not yet. Being the eternal optimist I am I believe that the great people of Australia will not stand for this and the enemies of freedom and liberty will eventually be defeated. I hope it happens before Mr. Spencer suffers martyrdom.

    As Thomas Jefferson once said, “When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty.” I pray we look back at Mr. Spencer’s plight as a turning point and that this global warming fiasco finally comes crashing down. How many must suffer before this madness ends?

    The bus situation – ‘Green Fascism’ at its subtle best? I don’t know. However, nothing would surprise me these days, as far as property ownership and life in general in Australia goes. We certainly seem to be living in a far more ‘regulated’ environment.

    I just finished cancer treatment for cancer (it was successful) and have started a new company which occupies most of my waking hours. I cannot budget the time to go to Australia but if I could I would be on the next flight. If there is anything I can do to help from the U.S. please let me know. Seeing what Mr. Spencer has been forced to endure makes my blood boil!

    It is shameful that hypocritical Kevin Rudd and Nancy Wong should reduce a man to this. What I feel like doing I cannot say. To say the least it wouldnt be lawful.

    This is end effect of the AGW scam. It will take away our freedoms, our livelihoods and our dignity. Freedom is precious and it is worth fighting for. What is happening to Peter Spencer is a symptom of the things to come.

    This is the only time Peter’s story has been told on the ABC so far as I know, and nobody in the government has yet responded to the interview. I’d dearly love someone to explain the future of agriculture in Australia if all our farming land is going to be locked up. Are we going to move our farm jobs to China too?

    Forgive my ignorance regarding Australian land legislation: What specific legislation forces Mr. Spencer to lock his land even with the defeating of the cap-and-trade?

    Having been a “visitor” to several countries around the world during my active duty military days, I have always followed a general policy of avoiding any comment on “foreign” (to the U.S.) politics. But this situation with Peter Spencer is a real travesty that surely must be dealt with if freedom is to be maintained “down under.”

    I’m too old and decrepit to be of much use to anyone, especially so far away, but I would urge every Australian to defend Mr. Spencer with all vigor and haste. I will quote Thomas Paine, a famous American pamphleteer at the time of our revolution:

    “If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately.”

    Good luck in your battle, where ever it takes you, and let us hope it is not too late to save Mr. Spencer’s life and property.

    Very moving listening to Peter Spencer. A good man harpooned by retrospective legislation. Shame on the powers that be for crucifying a man who did everything he could to earn his own living and was cut down at every turn. This could be the thin end of the wedge for all of us.

    Before I comment, please believe that I have no commercial angle commenting here on moso bamboo. My stuff isn’t ready for exploitation and is not for sale. I do, however, have a strong point to make.

    Millions of acres of temperate/subtropical regrowth scrub, bladey grass, whiskey grass, marginal holding land could be put to use growing temperate bamboos which are low cost, low impact…and moso, the type I grow, is possibly the world champion carbon muncher (for what that’s worth!). It turns paddocks of lantana into all those fashionable products you see in shops: flooring and cabinet timbers, clothes, bedding. Even without the processing industries to support it, it’s good for food and fencing. It only likes growing in a few parts of the world; the good news is, it loves the temperate/subtropical zone of Eastern Oz.

    There’s probably no other product with the carbon potential of moso, but I’ll bet in other parts of Oz there are useful crops and species worth some wary and prudent investment by government. Instead, they steal land which is doomed to be turned to the atmospheric carbon they claim to fear when fire takes it – just like it took Canberra’s “green” landscaping.

    If carbon was the real issue here, government would be doing what I’m doing. They’re not. Government is stealing Peter’s land for the reasons that overweening governments have always stolen. A mix of agenda, face saving, and stupidity.

What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!     Even if one grants that there is a carbon crisis, why is there a need for a continuous acreage of “carbon sink”? When a National Park is formed it needs to have certain dimensions for protection of species etc. Why should the same apply to carbon sequestration? Do these people think carbon will gather in one spot, like a frost? One could also ask why harvested timber in a warehouse is not “sequestered carbon” if kept safe from rotting or burning. If the timber came from mature trees and is replaced within a forest by younger trees there is a further carbon benefit.

    One thing is sure: a large tract of “native” or “pristine” wilderness that is abandoned to green burning and clearing policies is not going to be a carbon sink. It’s going to BURN and make tonnes of atmospheric carbon.

    Let’s hope the policy makers who are stealing Peter Spencer’s property are merely stupid and have no knowledge or commonsense about the Australian bush. If they’re not merely stupid, then I fear we, as well as Peter, have a serious problem.

    Surely Rudd is at the crossroads. It seems his penchant for writing weighty essays has given way to this. More serious matters are however at hand. His refusal to meet Peter Spencer and deal with a situation that has the potential to make Australia the laughing stock of the civilised world has been compounded by this offer for a personal briefing from Lord Monckton. Given the poor reception of the weighty essays and current journalistic direction one wonders if Rudd is really up to the task of governing. Talk about the chooks coming home to roost! Rudd has been strutting about the world stage like the venerable rooster. He’s made so much noise that he’s been noticed and unfortunately for him made himself into a much bigger target. Soon to be hoisted on his own petard is our Rudd. Too bad it wasn’t in time for the new year fireworks!

    I’m a bit too angry to comment appropriately so I’ll keep it simple….

    As an ex-commercial fisherman, QLD prawn trawler owner operator, I know only too well the Government’s willingness to develop eco regulation to destroy industry… The regulations aren’t designed to protect or enhance and they are not developed using good scientific method… They are designed purely to enforce green ideology and limit private industry and endeavour within those areas they deem necessary….

    Commercial fishermen were lucky that National Party member Ron Boswell and others, were instrumental in getting compensation via a licence buy back scheme….. So I took 30 pieces of taxpayers silver over financial ruin and principle, and fled.

    This is the vile thing in all this. The Green economy and ideology steals everyone else’s money to fund their regulations and ideology. Their economy produces nothing except bureaucracy and regulation. It destroys enterprising people, ruins working industry and limits the aspirations of any who dare to dream.

    The Government, in it’s lie to save the world, involves itself in every aspect of you business and life…. Us Trawler owners, in the end even had mandatory satellite tracking installed, but subsidized by taxpayers, So that they could monitor our every movement.

    I feel for Mr Spencer. I really do. I pray he doesn’t harm himself and that people will rally to his cause. I have a fear that the Bureaucracy does not understand the depth of the violent feeling that boils so close to the surface as they go about their business of enforcing and implementing their government master’s policies….

    In the end, this Government is going to have to step back. These are fundamental freedoms that they are fooling around with. This land clearing and carbon issue must be repealed as quickly as possible and our rights to property ownership within the constitution publicly clarified by the government. The idea of a “Green economy” and its socialistic implications, must be abandoned. Our freedom as individuals is at stake.

    Stay strong Mr Spencer.

    I too am too angry to comment, but I can’t let LB’s comment at #31 pass.

    Irregardless of which era this policy/law came from, the fact remains RUDD IS THE CURRENT PM and hence this is in his power to do something about.
    On the question of who said what and who protested or not during Howards tenure, that’s a partisan issue seperate from the solutions needed NOW from THIS PM.

    I do not know if the end of the AGW scam will come in time to save Mr.Spencer but as I have said somebody will turn states evidence to save his own hide. Now, they are offering a reward to any of Michael Mann’s cohorts who will blow the whistle on him.They can save their own skin and get thirty pieces of silver for their services. As the link points out, under U.S. law the whistle blower is entitled to a percentage of the money the taxpayers were defrauded out of even if the prosecution of the accused is unsuccessful and no money is recovered.     A great deal of justifiable anger and distress has been generated by the plight of Peter Spencer and his appalling treatment by all levels of Government. There are many people working hard to resolve this issue and it’s to be hoped that with an increase in MSM attention, a positive outcome can be negotiated for Peter and his family.

    However, I don’t believe that the over-the-top, soap-box, anti-government oratory of Brian Richard Allen (@ post #24 and #25) is quite what this discussion needs. Please Brian could you turn the volume down just a little, and speak to us in a more normal manner?

    Whilst I tend to agree with many of the points you have made, it’s the style of your delivery that is a bit overwhelming. BTW, you don’t have a close relative in Sydney named Stephanie do you? Your style is similar to a certain lady who frequents the airwaves at 2GB. (Bless her)

    The Trouble with this whole AGW scam is that it gained credibility… It needed to be fought along idealogical grounds and by using the science…. This was Howards mistake. Once you start playing the fools game with ruthless fools, they drag you down and beat you with experience.

    Howard should never have tried to limit damage and play word games with legislation. He should have simply rejected AGW politics as prepostrous on economic grounds and moved on… But that is now history.

    …. It is Rudd’s problem now… He is the Prime Minister. Labor is the Govnernment of the day. They need to start by repealing the Native Vegetation Legislation… Pronto. Then they can start looking into the science behind this whole AGW scam.

    For those who would shift the blame for this to Libs/Nats, please read this You will find that Rudd hides behind successive Labor State governments across Australia that have locked up land use since the early nineties. This issue is bigger than Peter Spencer and I’m certain his strength and commitment comes from just that. IPCC policies have been adopted by Labor state governments across Australia for years. Anyone working in the property sector will know what it takes to get a project up, particularly in NSW. Try debating climate science with NSW government bureaucrat and see what you get. Word for word IPCC propaganda parroted off is the order of the day. The sheer momentum of the AGW bus is staggering and it will take a massive iceberg to stop this Titanic. Record cold is a great start. I hope the mainstream media get behind Peter and other landowners before the next major bushfire season reinforces what many already know. There is a disaster waiting to happen on a scale unimaginable.

    One telling point about the Coalition currently is the absence from the front bench of Dennis Jensen. Ex CSIRO scientist and sworn enemy of AGW. He’s probably not prepared to play the game as his maiden speech included a strong attack on AGW.

    Tony Abbott once described AGW as “crap” so he’s backslid a bit to my way of thinking. What do others think?

    Yes, Peter Spencer is Rudd’s problem now but we all know that in the end, Labor couldn’t give a damn about farmers in general.

    I’m not denying that it is Rudds responsibility to do something about it now, I’m just sick of people blaming Rudd for the actual policy. A lot of skeptics seem to be pinning all their pet dislikes to the anti-AGW banner, so instead of being about the science it becomes anothe platform to bash whichever political party they happen to dislike. By all means criticise where it is deserved, but don’t blame a government for a policy not of their making.
    Baa Humbug, please do not say irregardless when you mean regardless or irrespective, it just makes you look silly.
    Brian Richard Allen, blaming Rudd for a Howard policy (as opposed to blaming him for his lack of response to the issue, which is another matter) IS overly partisan and just makes all AGWers look like Liberal party stooges.     Sorry to double post, but Simon le Rosbif (love the name, by the way) her Majesty can onl intervene in constitutional matters, and AGW is certainly not constitutional. Unfortunately I don’t believe property laws are part of our constitution either.
    As far as I’m concerned, I am grateful we have a constitutional monarchy keeping some power out of the hands of politicians despite nearly too decades of attacks on the institution.

    If the current politicians take advantage of a policy that violates individual rights, they are just as guilty as the political thugs who instituted the policy. By their actions, they agree with the policy and are therefore guilty as charged. It is immaterial that they did not actually vote for its implementation. That is simply a distinction without a practical difference to the one who’s rights are violated as well as to the rest of us.

    Its interesting that politicians act as if natural law and the laws of logic are mere piffles subject to their whims but the laws passed by their fellow politicians, once enacted, become as immutable and pervasive as fire is hot, water is wet, and rocks are hard. It’s as of they think they become gods by the simple act of taking political office. Truly power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

    Jo, you have an error about Peter Spencer’s family.

    Peter’s 4 children, Kahn, Aaron, Sarah and Emma flew in from Grand Rapids, Michigan on Christmas Day. Aaron’s fiance came too and also Saxon who is Sarah’s 3rd child.

    Peter’s Danish partner Anna and 2 young sons Jessie and Jeremy did not come to Australia. All three are still in Denmark.

It is that innaccuracy I am objecting to, not people criticising Rudd for his lack of action on the issue. Howard and Rudd are both culpable, but Rudd did not create the problem.

    Rob H, I disagree with your assessment. Republicanism is at an all time low in Britain, and the monarchy knows it. While they do not exercise power themselves, they prevent the government of the day from having absolute power. In the words of Winston Churchill “The Crown is not remarkable for the power it wields, but the power it denies others.”

    All though the modern world has evolved and it is politically incorrect to conquer other countries and colonize them it was the normal course of history. if we follow your course of action and Australia was given back to the Chinese, the Chinese would have to give it back to the huns and so on and so on. The Japanese would have to vacate Japan and give their country back to the Ainu. The British of Norman Saxon decent would have to give England back to the Celtic tribes. The U.S. would have to give the land back to the Indians (native americans) Central and South America would need to be returned to the native americans. Maybe we could clone some Neanderthals and give the world back to them? As Rodney King once said, “Can’t we all just get along?”. Should the legitimate grievances of indigenous people be addressed and injustices rectified? I believe so. That being said, maybe you should adapt a more realistic approach to the problem that concerns you. I am sure you are an exception to the rule but it has been my experience that people who lack compassion for others seem to feel that, when adversity strikes them, that the world should come running to their aid.

    BTW, I thought the indigenous people of Australia were Aboriginal, not Chinese. The Chinese are coming? Well, perhaps you should form a civilian defense group or, if you’re pro communist China, start your own Red Guard Unit. Maybe you can begin the revolution? Oh, I forgot, Communism never worked which is why the Chinese have abandoned it for a hybrid capitalist system. Perhaps you could set a good example for the rest of us and get the hell out of Australia unless you are indigenous. Try swimming back to your native land with an ecofacist under each arm.     The onerous legislation affecting Peter Spencer is the Native Vegetation Legislation. What was recently defeated in the Senate was Kevin Rudd’s and the Labor Party’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, CPRS.

When Mussolini started his Fascisti movement in Italy around the 1920s, he was praised by communist leaders in Russia as being the leading socialist in the world. Only later did Stalin disown him, as the “national” part of Mussolini’s national socialism was not in line with Stalin’s desire to make communism (aka socialism) “international”.     So, if the deeds of the Australian government are “fascist”, then is this evidence that Australia is moving towards a big-government left-wing national socialist state? I don’t know – but the same thing is happening in the UK. People are afraid to clear the snow from outside their houses (on the public footpath) in case they get sued. It’s taken a government minister to say that this is nonsense – but the law under which people could be sued still stands. And some 11 million people (yes, 11 MILLION) will have to register on the Criminal Records Bureau database if the want to be near children who are not their own (for example, a pensioner who goes into school to read to children for an hour a week). Then there’s the Greatest Stealth Tax Of Them All – global warming legislation which is nothing else than taxation by another name that will do little if anything to reduce world temperatures. And reams of legislation that is so poorly worded that local councils spy on people’s rubbish bins under anti-terrorist legislation. And you know what a favourite saying by government spokespeople is these days? It’s: “If you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve nothing to fear.” Exactly what Hitler’s Gestapo used to say.

    If you want the truth, don’t ever listen to what they say, just look at what they actually do. Then vote ’em out – before it’s too late and they decide that elections are anti-democratic.

    The absolute highest priority of a nation MUST be to protect its own citizens.

    If a nation cannot protect its citizens, its reduced to a third world country.

    The most important thing in order to protect its citizens is to have law and regulations
    to protect private property.

    Guys, this beautiful country that I love is slowly going down, so slowly that it has been happening since the time of the rum corps and nobody has noticed or cared because it didn’t affect them. If they did something as honest citizens, they were cut down and silenced. What we are writing is being scrutinized by the same people that legally make it hard for the five buses to reach their destination. If we get loud enough, we will be hunted by the government and cut down in the name of general peace of the country and continuation of corruption.

    What a sad way to see our Australia diminish into the pockets of politicians and solicitors! I wonder, when our forefathers went to war so that we could be free, would they have kept fighting had they known how the government that they were fighting for would let their children down to fill its pockets? When we fought the Vietnamese in order to stop the advance of communism, did we know that our own future would be governed by communists under the guise of democracy? When our troops risked their lives in Iraq because our governments decided that dictatorship was a bad thing, and it was especially bad there, did the troops know that the RTA in NSW can dictate whether or not a bus can make it to a demonstration, which every citizen has the right to attend, or whether the dictatorship decided to cancel your license as they did to me recently in my absence and without trial of any sort? Are they not dictators themselves now?

    The problem is that there are no groups in the style of perhaps whistleblowers that cover this and what happened to Peter Spencer. Had someone tried to start one, it would get infiltrated immediately by members of the RTA, Police or both and brought down from within. Indeed, it is a sad state of affairs, when will they stop raping Australia? When will they be held accountable for their deeds?

    Talk about deeds – why was Hoxton Park airport sold to the Macquarie bank just before ex premier Bob Carr left politics and joined the Big Mac?

    We are fighting people who have access to more money than we are likely to see in a lifetime.

    Corruption exists and those in the know will keep sucking on ordinary folk like you and me because they can. They track us through our mobile phones, toll passes, those unexplained cameras on bridges or by the sides of roads and even by voice recognition software while we make ordinary phone calls. They use technology to get you if they want to and you and I are paying for it.

    To say enough is enough and stop, is only to get them to say that we are lawbreakers against the system. After all, didn’t THEY make the law? Didn’t they gear it just for themselves to take your freedom and money for themselves? Who are you to argue? It would be really good to bring Australia back to being from a country that you struggle in, to the lucky country that I once knew that it was.
