High pressure propaganda: Greens using children to write activist letters in school

Gary Johns (former Labor Minister in the Keating Government) writes in The Australian that children are being dished up green speakers at school, asked to write letters about “their thoughts” to politicians, and taking letters home to parents seeking their permission to join the campaign which is run by a volunteer for The Greens. The children were offered sample activist letters to copy.

Greens infiltrate the classroom

I received a letter this week that had been sent to the parent of a 10-year-old schoolboy and signed by the deputy principal of Cottesloe Primary School, Perth. The letter requested her permission to send a letter, allegedly written by her son, to Julie Bishop regarding the UN climate talks.

The activist site is Curtin’s CASE: Climate Action for a Safe Environment. Curtin refers to the electorate (not the university). The site has sample letters to ask Julie Bishop to get climate action and change the weather. The speaker at schools was Dr Chilla Bullbeck, who was “chair of women’s studies at ­the University of Adelaide until 2008 but is now a full-time “volunteer” for the Greens in Western Australia.” She claims “Curtin’s CASE is not a political organisation, but admits “our project does appeal to Greens members and supporters”.

The letter to parents directs them to the campaign website where a standard letter is ready and waiting.

“Dear Julie Bishop,

My name is … and I am an ­average … student … please help this goal of mine (to stop global warming) become yours too ­because we can make a difference for Australia” (emphasis added).

Craft a persuasive letter using their thoughts, describing their goal? This is a deception. This is high-pressure propaganda and it is taking place in primary schools right now.

Johns has some very good questions:

A representative of a political party was allowed into the classroom to push the party’s agenda on young children and to use them to write letters to achieve the party’s goals. Were other ­voices heard?

Were children aware that if the world decides to cut the output of carbon dioxide emissions by denying cheap energy-dense sources they are condemning ­millions to an early death through poverty?

This exercise in high-pressure manipulation of 10-year-olds took place a few suburbs from the University of Western Australia where a posse of ignorant ­academics and students ran Bjorn Lomborg out of town.

I will send a message to Johns about his use of “climate-change deniers” — the mythical creatures no one has ever met who deny ice ages and what not. Johns inadvertently feeds the monster by pretending that this phrase has any meaning at all. Lomborg is not a climate change denier, but no one else is either. Can we start writing in accurate English instead of activist strawmen?

They asserted he was a ­climate-change denier. He is not. Lomborg knows the cost of trading the possible loss of life in 100 years from climate change against the certain loss of life now through lack of access to cheap dense forms of energy.

Better terms are climate-crisis-believers, versus climate-crisis-skeptics.

      ‘Getting them young’ is now pretty much the dominant modus operandi of eco-zealots. They already know they’ve all but lost anyone over 40 (people who can see through their shell games), so they just adopt the playbook of 20th century propagandists who also understood that indoctrination from the earliest school years is absolutely essential to the embedding of any ideology. This is how you change society.

      Schools, universities and public services across the Western world have all been overtaken by progressive, left-leaning ideology. Naturally enough this includes the tacit (and often blatant) promotion of CAGW as a scientific ‘fact’, against which there can be no dissent, no debate – even if the ‘science’ itself is telling a different story. Filling young children’s heads with this toxic sludge is very much a part of the Agenda (21) – I’d suggest it’s essential, since the Agenda (21) ties back into all the EU/UN narratives around ‘sustainability’, ‘borderless nations’ and, of course, the redistribution of wealth from richer nations to poorer nations. ‘CAGW’ plays a pivotal role in enabling policy to promote the political agenda of both the EU and UN’s progressives. It’s a Trojan Horse.

      Targeting children is a deliberate, morally repugnant, tactic of green eco-zealots who are very much on a mission and will stop at nothing to protect and embed their political agenda. Agenda 21 is now 25 years old and still going strong. It is now a generation old and that first generation of ‘true believers’ are now coming into the workforce and bringing with them the mindset they were gifted during their school and university years. This is how it was supposed to work. The virulent spread of the leftist green agenda (co-opted to serve narratives on immigration, sustainability, wealth redistribution, etc) all now begin to mature into an unstoppable political force.

      Orwell sent us a warning, but even he could never have expected that the left would take his words and turn them into an instruction manual.

What matters is the effect implementing it as if it were true will have on people and the environment. Never forget the view that There’s Nothing as Practical as a Good Theory if fundamental transformation of people and institutions with governments in charge is the real agenda.

          With the increasing amount of government agencies, the work force is becoming more dominated by government employ. Big government means more people are employed by government. Sounds silly when you read the words but chilling when you contemplate the end result.

            Being employed by the government is a two edge sword, it’s not all sharp on one side.

            Let’s use myself as an example, hypothetical as it is. I land a job working for a department doing whatever. It’s a wage. I write, create, post, whatever my boss tells me to do. It doesn’t’ matter if I think this stuff is stupid or wasteful; they say this is my work and I get paid for it. Ok, so I don’t believe it. Neither does my boss, but his job is to make sure I do my job.

            Honestly I don’t know how some of these jobs GET created in the first place. But that’s high politics. It’s pushing an agenda at the party level and somehow it manages its way down through the organisations. Sometimes popping out in unexpected and stupid (illogical) ways.

        Sadly, Orwell knew exactly what the left was doing. Yes, before anyone objects, I am well aware that Orwell was a man of the left, too, at least until his experiences in Spain. While there, however, and while at the beebyanka during WWII, he developed his acute understanding of where leftist ideology ends up. Although his Spanish nightmare informed him of man’s capacity for inhumanity (both sides committed horrible atrocities), it was the beeb that gave him the idea for the “Ministry of Truth”. The Ministry of Truth wasn’t Orwell’s envisioning of some future horror. It was one he had already seen: the BBC.

        Are we entering or have we already entered another traumatic period similar to that which repeats so often in human history.
        A period where we have a repetition of the crass, vulgar, economic, political and social excesses and displays of the Roaring Twenties through to the inhuman Dictatorship driven 30’s and then into the filth, slime and utter inhumanity of vicious racial and ideology based global war of the late 1930’s and early 1940’s that are now fixed in our race’s history.

        The Hitler Youth, that you refer to, in pictures, started out as a Green Movement. Members of the Hitler Youth wore green shirts, and were sometimes referred to as Greenshirts.

          Ted, there is absolutely no reason the state governments could not intervene to stop leftists from brainwashing children with global warming propaganda and revisionist history.

          As to the federal government, the Liberals had control of the Senate during the 11 wasted years of the Howard era and they utterly squandered the opportunity to introduce real democratic reform in this country. Instead, what did we get: a continuation of the Left’s policies on immigration, welfare, youth, education and justice; a great big new tax; gun control; ratified the Rome statute, potentially exposing Australian soliders to prosecution in foreign courts; no rollback of anti-free-speech laws; record taxes and spending; record immigration, just to keep the real estate boom ticking over and win a few more votes from cashed up property owners, without any regard for the long-term social problems it caused; and, of course, the Liberal brand being tarnished by Work Choices.

        Go and speak to Headmasters and take them to task – unless we speak up and push back, we will see the 1930s history repaing itself with classrooms as pure indoctrination centres. I think anyone who pushes nonsense is fair game….constantly hold them to account.

        Its our kids we’re talking about…..

          How about the National Farmers’ Federation. In the pockets of the Liberals.

          30 years ago the NFF, representing an industry which operates on private capital, embarked on a policy they later named Unilateral Trade Reform, promising us that if we took the moral high ground in economics the rest of the world would follow our example. They had learned this at their university studies.

          It took no more than two years to show that the rest of the world had no interest in “moral high ground”, yet the NFF (together with the Liberals) has maintained that policy in the face of failure to the present day.

          In doing so they have halved the number of small business capitalists engaged in farming in Australia, with many more being forced out right now.

          Socialist/Marxist policy, half way there and gaining speed.

          From memory it would be about 30 years ago I recall a woman ringing John Laws from the NSW North Coast region, complaining that her junior primary school kid had expressed anger when seeing a logging truck going down the road, anger based on what the kid had been taught at school.

          It would be over 20 years ago a neighbour told of a visiting pre schooler who cried when he started a chainsaw to cut a fence post, because cutting down a tree would cause kids to die on the other side of the world.

          When Port Arthur happened the Liberals figured they would jump in and beat Labor to the punch on gun control, for no other reason than to take the initiative away from Labor.

          It was cowardly and unprincipled, which pretty much says everything that needs to be said about the Liberals these days.

            We had the same thing happen in Canada after the Montreal “massacre”, where a disturbed man shot and killed a number of female students. The (Liberal) government brought in draconian “gun control” measures that were unaffordable and ineffective requiring later government to remove and correct them. Now the liberal party (NDP lite) is still screaming about it with an election in the offing…. one they will lose-again.

                Gun control was always the ultimate aim. If a globalist controlled “right” wing govt or globalist controlled “left” wing govt made the law changes, ultimately the agenda is still the same, is it not?

                Have a look at the twisted barrel statue out the front of the UN – its the ultimate aim of global disarmament. There are some bleeding heart words to go with it, but the UN usually hides its true intentions behind fancy and flowery language….

                You cant globally disarm people all in one go and get away with it – but of you do it country by country with conveniently placed massacres to create sufficient outrage…

Robin @ 1.2.1 has long researched the INTENT of the process but you are describing the actual outcome. Anyone who has raised or taught children knows that at some stage they will seek to reject what they are being instructed to believe and seek the thrill of choice. God help you if you cannot then persuade them of the absolute veracity of your imperative. The very impressionable may succumb or may seek other mentors and measure themselves for suicide jackets, but the majority will eventually seek to expand their control over their life choices anyway they can. They develop their personal BS detectors through brutal experience of lies and deceit by their elders and betters.

    This miasma of “progressivism” has steadily developed from the late ’60’s. I guess that the pendulum will swing the other way eventually but, gee, wouldn’t it be nice to see clear rational thought without the Left-Green filter, particularly on scientific issues which require analysis of data. I’m reminded of a visit I had to the Soviet Union in 1968, as a left-wing student, where there was constant propaganda blaring out of train loudspeakers trying to socially engineer Soviet citizenry. When our group of Australian university students was returning vis Japan I confess that I felt enormous relief on hearing Al Martino on American armed forces radio. Not that I mind listening to the Red Army Choir still.

      The notion that left/green thinking is in any way “progressive” is demonstrably false.

      The modern green movement is a simple yet confused mix of basic Marxism/Stalinism running on a substrate of Malthusian rationale. Combine this with the fact that they actually believe their totalitarian dreams are “for the greater good” and you have a dangerous delusionary state from which to try and prosecute a political agenda. Nothing they think is new, their entire belief system is between 100 and 300 years old and has been adequately demonstrated as a failed system through subsequent history. While personally I fail to see what is progressive about replacing a gas turbine power station with something from before the dark ages.

      As for the so called “left” of today. Modern Australian Labour could not have strayed further from their path if they had quit and joined the Libs. For the so called party of the worker to align and cooperate with the party that stands only for the destruction of the economy and industry, is an anathema future labour leaders and thinkers will eventually have to answer for. The ideological gulf between labour and the greens is far larger than between labour and liberal, when labour realises it, you would expect it will be a “schism” type reaction.         The thing is Safetyguy my friend, the Australian Labor Party is infested with careerists that follow the University Law School to union staffer/political staffer to politician path without any exposure to real life. They wouldn’t know what real work was like even if it barked them on the shins.

        Still, I feel more comfortable with that lot than the Greens. Ever see that Rachel Siewert on news items. If ever there was a closet totalitarian look no further. It just goes to show that “the price of freedom is eternal vigilance”.

        Oddly enough, progressivism is the most detrimental factor inhibiting progress. The reason is because to those who believe in this ideology, its not about progress providing growth and opportunity and to boost the bottom up, but about penalties and policy to suppress growth and opportunity to bring the top down.

        The negative influence on children is not unique to AU, but widely prevalent in the US, especially in California. The bottom line is that critical thinking is not taught because it too often leads to politically incorrect truths.

    As more adults, albeit all too slowly, are realising that something is very amiss with all of this panic about climate catastrophes, what better way than to attempt to indoctrinate children. It’s been done in the past, it’s worth trying again. Whatever it takes (to rehash a somewhat old phrase).

      When it comes to the young, the Left want them…

      (1) Aborted, if they exist in the womb.
      (2) Indoctrinated, if they attend public education.
      (3) Non-thinking activists, if they graduate from university/college.

      The process is simplified down to a phrase: Get them while they’re young. Get them BEFORE the parents notice. Turn them into activists (foot-soldiers for the Left).

      The kids are never told HOW to think. They are just told WHAT to think.

        The interesting part in the interview is that the author of The Australian article has a friend who makes good money in coaching kids to write and say things the teachers want to read and hear! (Coached to chant the Left’s political narratives in order to get marks! To fake being indoctrinated! LOL!)

        The key point is that the author want the kids to see the whole picture from both sides of the debate. The Leftie Green groups only want to push one side through tactics like infiltrating schools and using children as political instruments. Its only when the parents from various schools complained to the author, did this story pick up.

        Its pretty disgusting when you think about it:

        An interest group has no qualms in using children to push their agenda. Wasting a kid’s time. Then we wonder why marks for English, Mathematics, and Science aren’t as great as our Asian neighbours…Education/Teacher’s union will chant its about money. Politics introduces policy (like Gonski and NAPLAN) to make the parents feel better…And the whole time, the kids don’t get the education they supposed to get! (People need to realise parents don’t get to control what their own kids are being taught in public schools!)

        In my experience, challenging people gently through questions forces them to think and dissolves a lot of the programming and allows them to come to their own conclusions. When they own the reality what was said and what is, dont match, they realise quickly that its wrong. Then they own their descision, all youve done is facilitate their questioning……

    That sort of propaganda would be enough to scare a child severely and cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I’d say that would be classed as ‘Emotional Abuse of a Child’.

    I’d say that was a criminal offense in most parts of the world and should certainly be frowned upon by the United Nations.

            It’s like a company that keeps changing heads. It veers and wanders wherever the current head is facing. The charter gives the company direction and drive, IF it is even looked at. If, like the US potus the charter is ignored, it becomes a self-governing entity with no master.

            Except that the people who want to be the leader of the UN/EU also want to be leader of the world. Then you have a very real risk having exactly that happen.

Then throw in the usual selection of superstition based, though popular, belief systems and if I was 16 Id be thinking of topping myself too. The chances of “end of days” happening in your lifetime appear to be around 100% according to basically every form of authority currently spruiking their particular brand of planet destroying nonsense.

    The definition of terrorism needs to be revisited.

The Mercatus paper tells the story of how Logan, Utah developed a micro-hydro plant that cost almost $3 million in the U.S., but would have only cost between $225,000 and $375,000 in Canada. The reason the project was 10 times more expensive in the U.S. than in Canada was the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) regulations.

        Seventy percent of Logan City’s drinking water supply comes from DeWitt Springs located up Logan Canyon. In 2008, the city updated the water line from the springs, increasing both the water supply and the pressure of the line. But the increased pressure necessitated improvements in the pressure reduction valves. The city realized that instead of just installing new valves, they could install a micro-hydro turbine that would help to reduce pressure and generate low-cost renewable energy for the city.….

        The USA has two big long mountain chains bordering the coasts where mot of the population resides. A series of dams could provide much of the energy needs from hydro. It doesn’t have to be a big drop either or even a ‘complete dam’just divert suficient water over a drop.

        Microhydro Power Basics

        Low-head systems may have less than 5 feet of vertical drop—sometimes they may have only 10 or 20 inches. In this case, most or all of the water in a small stream will run through the turbine to maximize output. The runner (the part of the turbine that receives the water and turns its energy into rotation in a shaft) for low-head turbines may be a Turgo or Francis type. These systems typically have short pipelines or sluiceways that then allow the water to drop through the runner.

        High-head systems may be defined as any site with more than 10 feet of head. Common runners are Turgos on the low end, and the most common, Pelton, for medium to high heads. These systems may have hundreds of feet of pipeline to develop the head (pressure), with the water delivered to the runner via multiple nozzles…..

        Yes those are micro systems, meant for home use but the idea still applies. Heck I could plug a couple into the beaver dams on my farm and generate quite a bit of electric if it wouldn’t also flood out the idiots next door who went and built on a river flood plain. (They trespass on my land to keep knocking out the beaver dams that periodically flood their property.) No doubt the EPA, GreenPolice et al would be at my door too if I tried.

Especially, when He has given us a mandate to “be fruitful and multiply” and “have dominion over”.       In theory religion and State are supposed to be separated but in reality they are not, and can never be. Everyone has a faith based religious attitude to life, including atheists. So, there can never be a true separation. What has happened over time is selective separation, which is what made things worse by filtering out some good religions and leaving alone bad ones, such as the AGW alarmists. That’s why I believe schools should allow all types of religions to be studied and compared. It would be a valuable learning exercise.

    They in turn as they age will wonder why they can’t get their kids and younger generations interested in joining and carrying on their social and societal structures their generation built and developed.

    Each generation creates it’s own particular way of doing things and develops its own generational memes and then fails to understand why the next generation fails and refuses to continue what they had so lovingly and dedicatedly built and developed.

    They fail totally to understand that the next generation is merely out there doing exactly the same as they did, building and developing their own society and social structures but as in all generational changes as it has always been, in a different way, in a different time and and in different circumstances.

    So if the younger generation rolls the eyes at the mention of global warming, they had nothing to do with creating that meme .
    Thats for the oldies and their antediluvian inability to get with the latest fashion or have any understanding of the really important things in life, whatever that might currently be.”

    And maybe the failing of this green approach will be magnified by exposure to a contingent of people outside the line of preaching.

    Thats about where the reputation of the principal and vice principal of that school is likely to finish up at.

    As educators and responsible for the education of those young kids they not only allowed the Green political activist[s] the run of the classrooms but as the vice principal was prepared to write to the parents supporting those letter writing actions the kids were being encouraged to pen, they as teachers and educators were actually promoting the political exploitation and grooming of those kids by a Green, rabidly leftist political organisation hell bent of transforming society into a communistic type society.
    And that in the school and it’s small kids they as principal and vice principal were totally responsible for.
    They are now likely to be hung with that very stinky political baggage probably for the rest of their proffessional lives and maybe for a long time after that.

      Again, I ‘d suggest a legal class action could be the way forward, and not hold back from it either….

      Irinically, if we pursue legal redress from emotional damage to our kids in the name of unproven science, were seens as “vindictive”, but if the Marxists turn up and mess your kids head up with the schools’ blessing, they are seen as “saving the people”.

    Ha, what a waste of green party resources. As I understand it Julie Bishop is already a believer in the great global warming monster as is Environment minister Greg Hunt, Communications minister Malcolm Turnbull and whole bunch of others who will be working very hard to sign us up to the UNs big welfare scheme designed to change the weather in 2120 by destroying our economy today.

    Personally I blame the parents. While most parents ensure their kids get to school each day how many know what the kids are learning? Not many, until the child brings home some garbage like this. Even then they probably don’t think it unusual or worth complaining about.

    Here’s an idea Jo, in order to help these parents out maybe someone could put together a form letter addressed to the WA minister for education calling for the sacking of the principal and other public servants involved in exposing children to political propaganda. Just fill in the blanks with name and address etc. and post it off. (Surely this is a sackable offence? What if a school gave a Neo-Nazi group similar access to 10 year old kids?)

    Actually I think it would be pretty rare for any government minister to see letters sent by the public so it would probably be a pointless exercise.

    Last year my seven year old grandson brought a book home from the school library, a book aimed at seven and eight year old and containing a heap of Green propaganda to manipulate young minds.

    It claims that extreme events are driven by climate change and that temperatures have been “rising steadily since the introduction of fossil fuels and engines”. It contains nonsense such as saying that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap heat, that Tuvalu is being inundated by rising seas, that recent heatwaves are due to global warming (but doesn’t say that there’s been no warming for at least 16 years). It’s just relentless propaganda without a shred of evidence to support it.

    The book in question was “The Earth in Peril” by Lesley McFadzean, published in 2011 by Australian Geographic. Be aware that it seems to also be sold into North America.

    This has been going on for generations in the USA sadly. When I was a child in 3rd grade Greens came to our class rooms and gave a presentation about saving the wolves from extinction and eliminating cattle and sheep from grazing on the mountain pastures. It was in substitution for the normal science instruction. They gave us all iron on patches to wear on jackets like good little eco soldiers.

    When Al Gore’s movie came out a local school teacher friend of my mothers (a retired teacher) came and informed me about how they had showed the movie and gave a presentation to all the teachers during a local training course in preparation for the up coming school year. She was amazed and alarmed at how convincing the presentation had been and how many of teachers had become very excited about the program. Totally duped. They were instructed to show Al Gore’s movie in the science classrooms to the kids. As far as I know they still do.

        When a politician says to do that, it’s political. The teachers could have withdrawn their labor en-mass and refused to come back until they receive a solemn written undertaking by the Government to its nose out of teaching the children how to learn to learn for themselves, and think for themselves, and make intelligent choices themselves. I trust the actions of human beings who learn that more than any centralist power-addict or prancing political jackass. I know which approach will produce more constructive, freer, and more welcome, as well as saner actions, and outcomes, over time.

    Using children in various ways has been the aim of every idea that ever wanted to take over a society and run it. Remember that 10-10 group? There’s an inherent evil in this that is so repugnant it sickens me. No matter the cause, taking over the schools has been the intention since there were schools to take over. And now that we’ve allowed centralization of education at the national government level, the takeover is nearly complete.

    The question we face is simple. What are we going to do about it?

      The worst of it is that if the thoughts of children could be given significant weight compared to the thoughts of adults with even a few years of real life experience, we wouldn’t need parents to take care of us for so many years, would we?

      Just think about how much easier it would be to raise a child if that were true. But far too many will probably be influenced by the thoughts of children, especially in this world where emotion makes more decisions than deliberate thoughtfulness.

    Grade level education is where it works. That is how racism has been created – you train them to see racism in everything, including things and actions that to an informed person, would not be conceived as racist.

    This is how you train them in behavior modification in sexual orientation – you start young teaching them the wonders of variety, not to be afraid of change.

    This is how you create future wars by extolling the virtues of the government and the need to protect “the motherland, whether at home or in a distant land.”

    This is how you train population control and hatred for material goods, by blaming everything on materialism and energy while teaching that maybe having children isn’t such a good idea. Start them young on the agenda, and wait until the seed matures.

    Looks like the greens have given up on success in the next 5 years and are working to guarantee it in 10, when this new brainwashed batch of “brave new worlders” reach maturity.

    Agenda 21, Ted Turner’s 750 million human population, ridding the world of “useless eaters,” and when this group reaches power, realize that those that differ in their opinions will BE the useless eaters, all fall into the same category of a New World Order of “The Aristocracy” and peasants.

    And best of all, they will have been trained to be thankful that they have next to nothing and gave everything back to Gais, not even knowing that they are working their butts off and supplying the aristocracy with everything “they” need to maintain THEIR standard of living.

    Simple solution – and if I lived in Oz with a child at this school I’d do it: Download the form letter as instructed and change the wording to reflect a sceptical child’s thoughts. Something like:

    “Dear Julie Bishop,

    My name is Bob Monckton-Carter and I am an ­intelligent student with a science-sceptic brain. Please help this goal of mine (to stop paying for the global warming scam) become yours too, ­because we can make a difference for Australia – if only we dump the green taxes and re-invigorate our energy base with cheap electricity instead of hugely expensive and subsidised wind and solar farms. Remember man cannot change the weather – that is arrogance of the first order.”

    As exciting as it all sounds, there is clearly no unanimity on the subject.

    And even Taylor himself isn’t getting his hopes up.

    The problem is that there are no instrument packages on the probe designed to look for life so everyone is just going by what they’re seeing on the cameras.

    If they can prove this it would pretty much answer one of the great questions in science… or at least as close as we’re going to get any time soon.

    If there is life on that frozen ball of ice and stone hurtling through the deep freeze of space and being bombarded by constant radiation, then the entire galaxy is probably lousy with life.
    That’s not to say that much – or any – of it has built rocket ships and radios, but at least at the simple organism level there’s probably life everywhere there’s a solid surface that doesn’t move too fast.

    Unfortunately, short of sending yet another probe up there after Philae, it’s hard to see how they are going to prove this either way.

    He said eddies are often hidden below a layer of warm water and researchers thought these parts of the ocean were “dead zones”.

    “Just that 10 metres below the surface was this huge cauldron of water rotating at a metre per second,” he said.

    “It was keeping the community nurtured because of the uplift and the temperature.

    “The cold water with its fertilizer, the phytoplankton, the algae at this site, it was so distinctive.”

    Education is supposed to be the thing you do for others so that they can discover how to teach themselves, and to think clearly from your own observation and examination.

    A system which tries to teach you what to ‘think’, and not how to learn to learn for yourself, is the failure of formal education, and failure of the teacher, and the failure of the system.

    When instead of helping the young person to learn to learn, and discover how to develop their capacity to think independently, they have in fact become those children’s oppressors, abusers and enemies, and are in fact undermining them, and their future.

    Which is the future state of all that you impair with such warped and actually shallow desolate ideological apprehensions of life. Who are you to dictate meaning, worth, valid or invalid, to anyone? The self-admiration and conceit is mind boggling! Just how did you get so up yourselves?

    What is for sure is, no one’s born like that.

    Socrates said a few harsh comments in his time about that sort of pretense of an ‘education’ and ‘thinking’, and the motives of people foisting such darkness of being on to the young, and the harm it creates for all.

    The green left propaganda lobby is a blight on us all, and especially damaging to the young, who are rendered confused, bewildered, depressed and afraid to be exactly what they are, a natural being, that’s supposed to be what it is, and do what it does, and develop into itself in the process.

    Are we really supposed to believe that life got our development so wrong, that we have to be changed to be something else? That we can’t trust that life itself in fact got our development completely spot on? that all we need to do is be what we naturally are, and do what we naturally do, and thus will quite naturally find the best ways to do things that are best all round?

    Are we really unable to trust life to make the most of the young learning how to learn, and how to think independently, might turn out wrong, if not directed by thought oppressors and suppressors and lobby propagandists, mongering fear to us from cradle to grave?

    No, you are not helping. You are not ‘saving the world’ form us. You are in fact damaging and harming life, via trying to prevent human life from being what it is, and is supposed to be, from expressing itself.

    Nothing changes. Indoctrination is what schools are about, good and bad. I had one son who came home suddenly as a vegetarian. He went to school as a balanced eater and came home with a dislike for meat. Now that is not something you learn from just having lunch. It is something you are taught. Meat is murder, apparently. Tell that to the fish who are all carnivores. So are the cuddly and cuddly one tonne killing machines, Polar bears.

    Caring people are caught up in this indoctrination, but that is why there are religious based schools. Give me a child when he is young is the title of a neighbour’s book. He did not look up until he was 38. I doubt it is any different in Islamic schools. However that does not mean politicians have the right to push their unbalanced views to school children let alone enlist those children as activists writing by proxy to politicians. Such outrageous unbalanced an opportunistic political activity has no place in the education of children.

    The headmaster should be writing to parents asking whether such political activists should be allowed anywhere near their children, not whether young children are allowed to write letters to ministers.

    Other academic institutions use project-based learning, and students at technical powerhouses like Stanford, M.I.T. and the California Institute of Technology are busy inventing new energy products and approaches. But few colleges have taken on climate change — and alternative energy as a solution — with as much fervor as the College of the Atlantic, weaving it into the school’s curriculum and operations…
    In 2007, the school announced that it had become carbon neutral, largely through the purchase of credits to offset its emissions…
    Of course, because it is a school, not all projects have panned out.     Is there no protection for pupils under your education laws in Australia? In the UK, the Education Act of 1996, mainly for England & Wales I think, has this clause:

    ‘406 Political indoctrination.

    (1)The local education authority, governing body and head teacher shall forbid—

    (a)the pursuit of partisan political activities by any of those registered pupils at a maintained school who are junior pupils, and

    (b)the promotion of partisan political views in the teaching of any subject in the school.’

      Even if every nation on earth had iron clad laws to prevent the political indoctrination of students, they would still get away with it because they would claim that this is not politics. They would claim that this is “science” and every judge in every court would agree to that interpretation.

      Post-modern “science” has reversed the natural order of things. Science is supposed to inform policy. Today, polcy informs science. c.f. “climate models” and “homogenization”, just for starters.

    If the science is somehow wrong and all we have done is stopped the bad health outcomes associated with pollution from burning fossil fuels, outcomes that affect poor people in developing countries more than us in fact, then we have achieved something. I don’t think anyone in the developing world is going to be deprived of coal to burn before they have solar or wind power alternatives.

    One thing I do know for sure is that if a scientist wanted grant funding it is more lucrative to approach the fossil fuel industry than to approach the ARC, to study the benefits of coal than the benefits of renewable energy. No scientist I know researches climate change for the money, I can assure you.

    Unfortunately Mr Johns did not ask the school or me how the class was conducted so he did not find out that the students developed the issues they would write about in a discussion prior to writing their letters and then returned to their desks and wrote individually crafted letters.

    Mr Johns also failed to note that Chevron, Alcoa and other companies are constantly providing materials to schools on the value of their contribution to the economy so that students are exposed to the position that you advocate, or nazi brainwashing from the other side if you like.

    I am pleased that you and I are united in our concern for the ‘real environment’, although we clearly imagine different ways in which it needs to be protected and nurtured.

      The Earth is currently very close to starvation level of CO2. Below 200 to 250 ppm C3 plants are restricted to sea level and barely have enough energy to produce seed.

What we do know is that the past 6 interglacials have lasted roughly half of a precession cycle, or currently 11,500 years. The Little Ice Age was right about when the Holocene reached a half precession cycle old so at present we are on the descent into the next glaciation. And these people want to strip the earth of the CO2 security blanket that might be keeping us out of the next ice age? Or at least see to it that the C3 plants don’t become starved/extinct by returning much needed CO2 to the atmosphere?

      Lisiecki and Raymo (Paleooceanography, 2005) produced an exhaustive analysis of 57 globally distributed deep ocean cores reaching back about 5 million years.

      Lisiecki and Raymo’s conclusion?

      …the June 21 insolation minimum at 65N during MIS 11 is only 489 W/m2, much less pronounced than the present minimum of 474 W/m2. In addition, current insolation values are not predicted to return to the high values of late MIS 11 for another 65 kyr. We propose that this effectively precludes a ‘double precession-cycle’ interglacial [e.g., Raymo, 1997] in the Holocene without human influence….

      So for the next 65,000 years there will not be enough solar energy near the Arctic to allow the earth to warm even if the earth does not descend into a full blown glacial.

Carbon limitation due to lower ambient CO2 partial pressures had a significant impact on the distribution of forest on the tropical mountains, in addition to climate. Hence, tree line elevation should not be used to infer palaeotemperatures.

    Are forest fires making any net contribution to atmospheric C02? The process is cyclical. If it wasn’t once any area of forest has been burnt it could never burn again. In reality post fire regeneration and regrowth captures and stores as much carbon as was released in CO2 during combustion. In fact less intense fires probably result in a net CO2 reduction, as a significant component of charcoal remains to contribute to soil carbon. There has been a significant amount of research in this area.

        I am often asked to name those educators responsible for the change in primary reading instruction which has led to the decline of literacy in America. People ask this because by the time they understand the history of the reading problem and of the dumbing down process that has been going on in our public schools for the past forty years, they recognize that all of this is not the result of a series of accidents but of conscious, deliberate decisions made by our educational leaders.

        After twenty-five years of research, I can state with complete confidence that the prime mover in all of theis was none other than John Dewey who is usually characterized as the father of progressive education. Yet the change of the teaching of reading is probably Dewey’s greatest contribution to the tranformation of American education from an academically oriented process to a social one.,,,,

        In 1894, Dewey was appointed head of the department of philosophy, psychology and education at the University of Chicago which had been established two years earlier by a gift from John D. Rockefeller. In 1896, Dewey created his famous experimental Laboratory School where he could test the effects of the new psychology on real live children.

        Dewey’s philosophy had evolved from Hegelian idealism to socialist materialism, and the purpose of the school was to show how education could be changed to produce little socialists and collectivists instead of little capitalists and individualists. It was expected that these little socialists, when they became voting adults, would dutifully change the American economic system into a socialist one.

        In order to do so he analyzed the traditional curriculum that sustained the capitalist, individualistic system and found what he believed was the sustaining linchpin — that is, the key element that held the entire system together: high literacy. To Dewey, the greatest obstacle to socialism was the private mind that seeks knowledge in order to exercise its own private judgment and intellectual authority. High literacy gave the individual the means to seek knowledge independently. It gave individuals the means to stand on their own two feet and think for themselves. This was detrimental to the “social spirit” needed to bring about a collectivist society.

        The newly-minted “Russian expert” from Columbia delivered the KGB payload directly into the cultural heart of America. “Capitalism is corrupt! Russia’s experiment is working!” screamed
        his text.

        The Primer was a selection for Book-a-Month Club members in May 1931, and 46,000 members chose it. Counts’ first influence project was a best-seller for seven months, and ranked eighty-first on the list of nonfiction bestsellers from 1921-1932. Cloaked in his non-partisan, academic-research cover, Counts delivered the anti-capitalist payload into schools, universities, and living rooms across America.

        Of course, at the same time that Counts published this covert influence coup, Stalin was in the midst of forced collectivization of huge swaths of Soviet society. Dissenters were rounded up and shot. Or sent to the gulag, where they were worked to death, in the most inhuman conditions imaginable.
